its the way chayanne only died bc he was trying to help phil and tallulah, he was still up and could've swam away once he revived phil, but that just isn't how chayanne is, is it? he had to die protecting someone. even if it meant nothing in the end and they all died.
its the way tallulah was in the middle of writing a sign, her most prominent form of communication. it's how she was frantically scribbling something down to phil and was downed during it. it's how she died right next to the other two, even when chayanne was trying to get to them. it's how she's only been on this planet for a week, less, and already has died and come back to life
its how phil was trying to stay calm and yet was frantically telling chayanne to res him so he could get to tallulah, it's how he realised there was no hope, he just started apologising to chayanne, over and over, told him that the island didn't want them to live, was so upset that he called upon the island itself to fix its mistake or incur his fucking wrath
And I'm officially insane,

Why does this look like the scene from a romantic movie where the main characters meet for the first time and immediately fall in love with each other

Bullying isn't a "normal part of growing up"
Bullying isn't a "normal part of growing up" if a child is being bullied physically that is a failure of the school to protect them and a failure to create a safe learning environment.
Psychological bullying is *equally* as serious but can be harder to identify. But if a child/teen comes home from school upset repeatedly. If they say they don't want to go to school. If they alter their behavior to avoid persecution this is also a failure.
This feels obvious and basic but I'm saying it anyway.
Bullying isn't just something that happens naturally and part of "kids being kids" We can have schools where bullying is very rare and taken seriously when it occurs.
Bullying occurs when members of a community decide that someone is not an equal member of the community and so they aren't due the respect that everyone else may have. Sometimes adults condone this, and participate. (Sometimes on some notion of "making them more normal" or "teaching them to not be a target") This should not occur. This need not occur. If the adults that run schools, and parents decide they will not tolerate it ... it need not happen.
Yes, yes. *sometimes* feeling like you don't fit in is a part of growing up.
*sometimes*
Somehow this reasonable level of discomfort that can lead to personal growth gets confused with being bullied. And people who resist the idea that no one really needs to be bullied. (It could just be a thing that didn't happen in schools on any significant level.) think we are saying the much less reasonable idea that everyone should always be happy and never have any social discomfort.

Listen to me babe. Failure is normal and part of the process. If you never fail, you're not making true progress. You're just regurgitating prior process.
I don't know why society is so obsessed with perfectionism and never making a mistake ever, but that's not how it works. You're going to forget to upload an assignment. You're going to miserably fail a test. You're going to get a speeding ticket. You're going to make your little sister sad. You're going to kill some plants. You're going to get that quiz back you were so confident about and realize that you got 1 question right. Those moments are when true learning take place instead of memorization and regurgitation.
This is why in math they make you show all your work and on science and reading they made you explain all your answers and choices with a paragraph. It highlights your thought process so you can analyze where you were right and where you were wrong. And it's ok to be wrong! No one is ever right all the time.
Don't let anyone shame you for being bad at something. Remember that they had to learn to walk and chew and talk and write and read and they didn't succeed the first few times in any of that. We should be building people up and acknowledging their faults as a way to learn and grow, not as a source of shame and despair.

It sucks so much when you work so hard for something and give it all you got and you do everything you can, but it still doesn't work out and you still fail.

remember | solomon
» angsty-ish; gender-neutral reader ; mentions of reader dying someday in the future and solomon having past lovers ; me being delusional and sleep-deprived and losing grip on reality (a cry for help)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you shifted your position so that your face was hovering on top of him, "someday, when I'm gone..." you said, gazing lovingly into his eyes, "i want you to remember me as your love that kept your lonely heart full in nights where the feeling of emptiness was too much. the love whose insuperable melancholy, no matter how heavy, would lift all of it off themselves to wrap their arms around you. you over everything else." your voice grew more stadily as you spoke.
"when I'm gone someday, i want you to think of me when you're wrapped up in a sweater and remember how i loved to knit them for us. think of me when the coffee is just a bit too milky because i like mine that way. think of me when you're alone and remember that my heart will always be with you, no matter where you would end up in." you leaned in to kiss him softly but with so much love, closing your eyes to savor the moment with him.
“remember i'll always choose you in any lifetime.”
solomon listened to every word. every whisper like a secret melody only both of you could hear. his hands on your hips as bare skin brushed over bare skin in sending intimately beautiful sparks over both of you.
his loves past, loves to be discovered throughout the course of his immortal timeline—he didn't want to think of them. he wanted you. he wanted the now to last forever more than anything. 'there couldn't possibly be anyone after you when you're long gone,' he thinks to himself, 'no one could ever compare.'
that's what he tells himself, but he knows it's inevitable.
he's still only human, after all. humans need love to survive.
you'll die someday and he'll live past you. another stone on the ground of someone he once loved, memories to be placed in a corner of his mind thay would be too painful to go back to for a good hundred years.
then it'll get better. and he'll meet someone who he treasures just as much as you and everyone that he'd given his heart to in the past. but you will always have a special place. you will always be a love he would never get over no matter how long and whoever would be in his arms because he knows he'll see you everywhere, hear you everywhere, feel you everywhere when you're gone. And somehow, the thought comforts him.
with your hand to his lips brushing over your knuckles so tenderly, eyes shut and savoring the moment, he whispers back earnestly and honestly.
“how could i ever forget?”

Y'all do not KNOW how much I love Hammond, from the moment I saw him appear I was head over heels. He is fucking HORRIBLE, he is so cute like omigoodness, I want to stretch his little cheeks and squish him. I forgot what he did, but he's a dick, such a little goober guy. He's so fucking relatable, I wanna play plinko with him, he's such a fucking loser, oh my god.

This is me telling you with your face in my hands that if you failed a class, that's ok! That if you didn't even go to your final because you knew you were going to fail that class, that's ok! That if you were passing until you bombed the final, that's ok! That if you sent a panic email to your professor the night before grades were due asking if you could do anything and got a negative or no response, that's ok!
Failing a class doesn't make you less. Failing a class or a whole semester doesn't immediately comment on your value or worth or intelligence. Your grades don't reflect you. Maybe you work a full time job or two outside of classes. Maybe you have kids. Maybe you are going through a bad mental health episode. Maybe you've experienced a death, a divorce, a breakup, or another major emotional event. Maybe you lost your job or housing. There are so many things that you don't receive grace for in academia because you're expected to perform perfectly regardless of everything else.
So listen to me. FAILING A CLASS OR A SEMESTER IS OK! Give yourself the grace you'd give to a stranger or a friend coming to you crying and distraught because they failed. You wouldn't tell them that they're stupid and lazy and should have worked harder. You'd comfort them and tell them that it's ok. You need to give yourself that same energy babe.
