As you can use the brooch as a pendant, I carry these leather straps in our shop(Not yet published after the move) so I went to AMAZON to look for materials, and I found synthetic fibres in their natural state and… what's that…?

I am going to be selling faux leather bound journals/book of shadows/grimoires on etsy/ebay(?) soon. Can't do custom orders yet. Just premade. Think I'll sell them for 50 to 60 bucks. Most are handstitched and what takes the longest is attaching the pages to the leather.

Warning: I do have cats and I burn incense and use diffusers a lot because the smell of elmers glue can be irratating and it helps me relax.

If you want any of these message me. First come first serve. And expect a wait time as I am in need of transportation to the post office and need to finish putting the pages on the book covers.

It's finally done!! My first bookbinding project!

I got the idea when I saw "Turning Fanfiction into the Hardcover Book it Deserves" by Jess Less on youtube. I used several other videos as cross-reference for instructions but this one really inspired me and I wanted to do it myself!

Around this time, I had started to reread one Valley Of Serenity by @lnterjection aloud to my mom. I really loved this fanfiction and I thought it deserved it, so here it is!

I got the map originally from the end of chapter 60 where I then took a map of Europe and then edited it till it looked about right.

Overall it's not perfect, but I'm really happy with it! The pleather got a little worn and the heat-transfer vinyl gave plenty of trouble too. I kinda like it though, makes it feel almost like it was made in the same setting as the book.

There is one straight-up mistake though. I wonder if anyone will notice. I'll give ya a hint, it's on the front cover!

So I have been looking up how to do certain things for 3 big projects. I am someone who knows how to do a lot of things: textiles (everything from spinning yarn to weaving fabric to sewing clothes), ceramics, drawing, graphic design (literally my major), BUT I don’t know how to work with leather/ fake leather and idk how to book bind or how to make paper (for paper I have a general idea but I like to know the details).

My 3 big projects:

1. I want to hand make my ren fair costume (ik big task but my local faire isn’t until September/ October so I have time). Which includes sewing the clothes and any other fabric accessories. I’m also thinking of doing some embroidery for that. I plan on using air dry clay to make tiny mushroom pins to put in my hair.

2. What I have been calling my Dice Dragon bag of holding. I have the design for it in my head and I’m going to be putting it down on paper. I have a dice pouch idea and an outside pouch that has a removable flap. I also plan on being able to convert it from a back pack to a satchel. So I have my work cut out for me. This is where learning about leather working comes in.

3. I want to make hard back copies of the Andrew Lang color fairy books (the 12 books, I’ll go mad if I do the full 25). I plan on making sure his wife’s name is on those books as well cause she did a lot of work on those including translating them from a number of other languages and I want her on my covers. I’m also gonna be doing redraws of the original gilded illustrations so this project is gonna take me forever considering I’ve gotta first buy all 12 books (or maybe find pdf copies online and then I’ll get to have fun messing with the fonts on the inside pages), designing the covers, picking fonts, AND for the end pages I plan on making my own flower paper to match the colors of each book, so again alooooot of work.

I love to illustrate but I also love doing things with my hands so I’m excited to do all this. I am gonna need to clean out my big closet so I have a space to put all of the new tools and things that I’ll be getting. Man, I wish my job was just to craft things.

Hi! I'm pretty sure I saw you answered an ask about fixing fake leather, but now I can't find it. I have a fake leather vest i thrifted a few years ago, and I really love it. But it's so crumbling around the top back and the collar that I can't wear it without getting covered in little black flakes. I was meaning to fix it for a while, but all the tutorials online offer fixes for small problems and use products i don't have (like liquid leather). any help of advice is appreciated <3

Here's the ask on how to mend flaking pleather you're looking for.

You could try repainting it or using liquid leather like a lot of tutorials suggest, but the easiest solution will probably be to cover up the damaged part with fabric.

Once again, “vegan leather” is pleather, aka plastic leather, aka plastic.

As in, sheds bits of plastic everywhere, will only last two years at most, and is a pain in the ass (and needs chemicals!) to clean.

If you want to be environmentally conscious, yet insist on zero animal skins in your wardrobe, just accept that you’re gonna be dressing like a Norwegian shepherd when it gets cold and that you’re never gonna look “cool” or “chic” or “badass.”

Because the only non plastic options you really have are silk (inner layers) and wool (outer layers).

If you choose “vegan friendly” and eliminate all animal products… good luck staying warm. Your options then are pretty much 100% plastic. You should probably just move somewhere warm where you can wear cotton and linen year round.

My fake leather jackets began to peel last year. I had a gorgeous red one and a very nice dark brown jacket. I attempted to save them with Fabric glue but it didn't work. It continued to peel and it spread. A layer between the fabric of the jacket and the leather was very crumbly and pale. It was like glitter because even if you didn't touch it, it got everywhere. It was almost impossible to get rid of. If anyone's interested in how distressed, very old faux leather looks, here's a few pictures. I hope this helps someone.
