Here's the batch of lunch doodles from before I got sick!

I really liked how these turned out. And I finally had given in and let myself doodle some BG3 in these.

I'd avoided it at the time to give myself a break as I was drawing a lot for it. But the big piece had me needing to take breaks, and inevitably, I doodled more Shadowheart. And it continued from there.

And just more of my stuff because I like my own characters a lot, too. 🙂

I'm hoping that with returning energy, I can start these again.

I've decided that my absolute favorite character trait of all time is "Will pretend they're fine until they literally can't pretend anymore. And even then it usually takes someone confronting them about it to get them to admit anything is wrong." Like, the kind of character who will say "I'm fine" while literally bleeding out. Or who will claim they're well-rested while swaying on their feet with exhaustion with bags like bruises under they're eyes. Or who will insist that they're totally not traumatized by something but are clearly showing signs of PTSD. Idk, I just love stubborn little shitheads (affectionate) who desperately need someone to walk up to them and say "YOU'RE NOT OKAY. PLEASE, LET ME HELP YOU." Or sometimes: "I AM GOING TO HELP YOU WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT."

really digging the prospect of El being paralleled to Luke Skywalker. In ESB, Luke senses that his friends are in danger, and wants to leave Yoda & go rescue them, even if that means interrupting his training. El is sort of being trained right now as well, and Brenner serves as a Yoda-like figure in this scenario. With the Fallon teaser having dropped, we see that her flashbacks have ended and she’s talking to Brenner. She wants to run off and save her friends, he believes she’s not ready yet. Stranger things is a love-letter to the 80s, so it makes sense that they’re recycling tropes from that decade’s movies, and ESB dropped in 1980 (I sometimes forget about this lmfao) I think it might just end with her making a mistake and failing to defeat the Emperor, in this case it’s Vecna, and his final defeat is set to happen in season 5. It was kind of foreshadowed during the dnd game and the dice rolling 11 & not working. Someone, either Mike or Will (bc that’s their trio this season) might get Han-Solo’d, ie stuck in the Upside Down and that’d be the big cliffhanger the season would end with.

Last dnd session we discovered a magic throne and when our robot dog sat on it the dog broke so Fallon tried to sit on it to harness it’s magic somehow and recharge our robot dog but that was NOT the answer and instead Fallon very nearly died and only didn’t on a technicality.

The dog is back up and around because two of the remaining players were much smarter and figured out the puzzle.

Here's the main cast of RTQ/ATQH (I really wanted to add the side characters too, but it was already getting to be so many...). Technically Fallon is the only one of those sims that I made, but I have custody of all of them. (Order is just the order they're in on the character page, cause that's where I had to check all their heights, lmao.) I try my best to include height differences in my poses, but they're usually more subtle than the actual ones, partly because posing two drastically different height characters is a pain in the ass.

The second group is some of my favorite D&D characters I've come up with. Cyra and Rook I'm currently playing, Zen was the first character I ever played and I played them for two sessions, Laverna was made for a tumblr thing well before I ever played dnd, but I'd love to play her someday, and Morana is for a pathfinder game that I will be in someday. I could have done more, but I didn't know who else to choose, these were most of my named characters anyways, ajdakjds.

As you can probably tell, I have a very skewed perception of normal heights, lmao. I'm 5'10, and Fallon is my shortest OC that I can name off the top of my head, at 5'6". And I rarely make any taller than 6'1" or so. Most of them clock in at either 5'10" or 5'11" because those are the ideal heights in my mind, lmao.

Lunch doodles~

I don't remember length of time, but probably 2-3 weeks.

It's a mix of all my characters from various stories and a bonus of 2 Tav doodles because BG3 still lives rent-free in my brain.

It be a mix.

And to shine through on its own paper, a Malfius doodle! I really like a white (and red) figure against a solid black background for my Devils & Details stuff. Fits the mood for the stories. Kills sharpies, though.

And this page has the two doodles that tied for favorites in this batch!

Mask, Midnight, and Wound for the character of your choice.

Ooh, thank you, Alex!! These are all good questions!

mask: Does your OC wear a mask, literally or figuratively? What goes on beneath it? Is there anyone in their life who gets to see who they are under the mask?

Weirdly enough, despite my love of masked characters, none of my characters so far wear a literal mask. I'll have to change that. However, I will say that Kristopher does wear a kind of mask. He presents a facade of the man that the entire kingdom of Oryn sees him as: drunk, foolish, and flirtatious. He never shows how badly their taunts hurt him, and he acts like nothing matters to him. But in reality, he's suffering every moment he spends in Oryn, as long as his family and his people hate him. Once in Anvia he dons a different kind of mask. Almost exactly the reverse. He vows not to let anyone see the "real" him. (Or rather, what his parents and brothers have convinced him is the "real" him.) The fuck-up drunkard who is useless to anyone. Eventually Fallon pulls away all of his masks, and gets to see the real Kristopher. The damaged, hurt, suffering Kristopher, who wants nothing more than to be happy and to be loved. Even after the two of them are together, Kristopher still keeps up a certain degree of appearances to everyone except for Fallon. He doesn't want people to ever have an excuse or reason see him the way the people in Oryn did.

midnight: What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?

Fallon is kept up by a lot of things. Sometimes it's worries or stress regarding her kingdom. Trade deals, foreign politics food stores, threats of crop failure or disease. Anything that could harm her kingdom in any way. Other times it's more personal worries. Memories of her mother, worry that she's failed at being a queen her mother would be proud of. Later on, after Lavinia's attack, it's nightmares. Lots and lots of nightmares. Nightmares where all of her loved ones die, and she can't do a thing to stop it. Some of the most devious ones put her father, Wymond, as a mastermind behind all of the loss and suffering Fallon has ever experienced. What she does when she can't sleep depends on the reason she's still awake. If it's worries about her kingdom, she may be up until the small hours of the morning writing letters to various nobles, merchants, or foreign dignitaries. If it's thoughts about her mother, she'll often just sit and let memories wash over her. If it's nightmares, she might try and distract herself, but often just ends up sitting there frightened.

wound: How does your OC handle being wounded? Are their wounds mostly physical? Mental? Emotional? What’s the worst wound your OC has ever experienced?

Let's talk about a DnD OC here, just for shits and giggles. Let's talk about Cyra, my fire genasi barbarian/fighter. Cyra has experienced a lot of wounds in her life, both mental and physical. From the murder of her parents and entire hometown, to all the wounds sustained while fighting for the Brotherhood, to learning the truth of her girlfriend Talia's true nature, and deciding to flee the Brotherhood for good. Cyra is no stranger to being physically wounded, and they handle it quite well. She has a high pain tolerance, and any kind of bruise or scratch isn't even going to slow her down. Not a wound, per se, but the worst physical pain she's ever experienced was when our rogue's ex-wife (who now leads the very cult he's on a revenge quest against) tried to reach into Cyra's body and remove the magical quarter staff they can summon from their chest. The pain was excruciating, and as Cyra was paralyzed at the time, she couldn't even open her mouth to scream. (But she still tried, leaving her with nothing but a scratchy voice for days.) When it comes to emotional wounds, Cyra is far less resilient. She does not have any truly good coping mechanisms, and tends to bottle up her emotions, only releasing them when they fight. The two worst emotional wounds they have suffered have been 1) losing her parents in a Brotherhood raid (and subsequently being taking in by the Brotherhood to be raised as a soldier), and 2) learning that her girlfriend, Talia (the daughter of the cult leader) is not the person Cyra thought she was. Cyra had long held onto the hope of convincing Talia to leave the brotherhood, and that the two of them would run away together. But after witnessing Talia sacrificing a town full of innocents to the Brotherhood's mysterious god, she realized that Talia had simply been stringing her along.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon

I thought I would start this account off with a bang.  I LOVED this book.  Set in a DND-type fantasy world, Cinnamon wants to keep her life simple.  Then her life is disrupted by a really hot demon who forces her to go on a quest with him.  Which is her worst nightmare, apparently (BUT NOT MINE).

This book was genuinely so hilarious.  Cinnamon was easily likable with a strong voice throughout the book.  Her conversations with Fallon would be full of banter making me laugh out loud one moment and then steamy the next.  Sometimes the two combined? I think I actually giggled when I read this line:

 “There is one more bayou delicacy that you haven’t tasted yet.”

The quest they went on was easy to follow and they picked up other characters along the way who were also so lovable that I know they are who the next books will be following.  After reading this I wanted to text my friends immediately to tell them that I had to play D&D in the next 24 hours or I would LOSE it.  Or maybe I wanted to create an entire D&D one-shot where they are given the exact same quest Cinnamon is.

As much as I loved the book, I didn’t find myself unable to put it down or racing through it.  There was maybe like one part that was sort of slow?  Some of the jokes were also giving millennial.  And to be fair, my best friend Ellie only gave this book 3 stars because she thought the main character murdered too many people (which I was okay with bc fantasy-world-that-is-okay-sometimes but she was not).

If you love yourself some romantic fantasy in a nice 182 pages (with some DIRTY AS HELL SMUT OH MY GOD MY EYES!!!) I would 100% recommend that you pick this up.
