8th annual nick valentine post! fallout 4 npcs Love sitting. they'll see a chair and ask "is anyone gonna sit here" and not wait for an answer. its like nick is on a personal quest to sit in every chair in the commonwealth. if he sees a chair its on sight
its because his joints are bad, obviously. he's like 140

The coolest intentional screenshot I've taken of my Sole Survivor "John Barstow".
I love his smirk and bad-assery, he tends to be a cocky mofo that doesn't take bull from anyone. The timing here was merely perfect as a Forged from Saugus Ironworks struck him with a Molotov Cocktail, causing him to abruptly burst into flames. Though not showing any concern for his health, he continues to unload his special 10mm "Deliverer" into every vital point of his quarry. His smirk here? *chef's kiss*

I think I just realized why I love Skyrim and Fallout so much…
I feel so much freedom playing those games…
Like I find so many older games to be incredibly dull because you CAN’T go to that mountain, you CAN’T cross that river…
But in Skyrim and Fallout, you CAN do that…
Even without them having the incredible story quality of Final Fantasy, or the unique mechanics of Spore, I feel much more FREEDOM playing these games that are lacking in story depth simply because I CAN do whatever I want…
And honestly I think that is awesome, because even with the very simple plot lines, the worlds feel more ALIVE than in most games…
I suppose Cyberpunk also meets the criteria, but the gameplay feels too clunky compared to Skyrim and Fallout 4…
And one game that actually matches Skyrim and Fallout in terms of a very fun game experience and also has an unironically awesome story is GTA5, I obviously can’t relate to the characters at all because I’m not a deranged psychopath like they are, but to be fair, the Dragonborn and the Sole Survivor aren’t very relatable either since they kill without remorse just like Michael, Trevor and Franklin…
All that is to say, I definitely realized that I value a fun experience over a good story, all though if the story is super bad then the gameplay becomes pointless… So basically Skyrim and Fallout 4 have the minimum level of story required for a game to be fun, but the characters in Fallout 4 definitely carry a lot of charm as well.
Of course, the exception to the minimum story rule is Minecraft for obvious reasons.

So, I felt like visiting the Commonwealth Wasteland (Massachusetts, United States, post thermonuclear war) of Fallout 4 today. I was thinking "Oh, I'll just play for a couple of hours" and it's near dawn now that I've finally got off the console. Whoops. Anyway, something that I wind up doing to myself a lot (that my player character goes through) is ACCIDENTALLY EXPLODING MYSELF with explosive and incendiary devices. Like, I just have to do that thing where I lead big enemies (such as the yao guais - mutant bears) over a trail of land mines I've set or I get beset by a mass of feral ghouls and I lob fragmentation grenades at them... Only to not watch where I'm running and to trip my own land mines or throw my grenade at too close of a range and do massive damage to my health bar, sometimes blowing my legs off and getting a bloody game over. I had the thought while playing: I wonder if Vash has ever done that to himself. Like, wondering if a few of his nastier scars were actually accidentally self-inflicted by doing something incredibly stupid with some frag grenades... But... that's when I remember he's more of a small arms precision fighter in combat (because unlike my Fallout character, he does NOT want to kill his enemies or any creatures that are after him). I'm pretty sure I recall him doing some stuff with explosives before... like lobbing a tied dynamite bouquet that the bounty hunters / bandits and thrown his way into a cliff in the first episode of the '98 anime and giving Luida some interesting lines in the manga about fun with things that go boom. Like... I wonder if that big scar in the left side of his chest that looks barely held together (by a cage in a couple of canons, just a bark-like tear in Stampede, but no less awful-looking) is less from "Oh! The cruelty of humans that Knives berates me about again and again!" and is more like "Okay, this time, I did something REALLY STUPID!"

Does anyone have any specific moments from the Fallout games where you thought to yourself, "Hell yeah I would totally do this irl!", but in actuality, it'd play out more like "Man. I could NEVER travel with x companion/join this faction/do this quest"?

has this been said before? i can't remember. but i wish instead of being locked behind perk points the higher tier gun/armor/etc. mods were instead locked behind upgradeable workbenches.
