I fell into the Shen Yun/Fa Lun Gong trap and am so mad at myself for that. Scale me on stupidity and warn your followers, they gotta hear it.

I would not call victims of cults stupid so therefore be free of the scale!! Reasonable and intelligent people are still susceptible to falling into cults, falling for scams, MLMs, etc. If you do not know much about anything related to Falun Gong's beliefs or the stories they tell (cough make up coughcough) through Shen Yun, then it is easy to get reeled in.

It doesn't help that a lot of the English language info that pops up when you Google Falun Gong/Shen Yun is positive, to the point that even the Falun Gong Wikipedia page paints them as a mostly innocuous spiritual group persecuted by the Evil CCP. They really like to play up this angle, by the way, and sadly for many people in the west, they hear the part where they're forbidden by the CPC and think that automatically means Falun Gong is good and everything they say must be true.

Personally I think the papers/articles are more informative and less annoying (The second video is a video essay whose creators I can only describe as "probably spend a lot of time on liberal Twitter" and "clearly learned everything they know about China from Reddit")

^2021 release date (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzlMQyM8p74) ↳ sort of gives an overview about Falun Gong from an outsider POV, but the narrator uncritically repeats some of the persecution claims made by Falun Gong (esp. the organ harvesting claims, which are most likely not true imo), and by Amnesty International...via Falun Gong advocates. I honestly wouldn't bother to link this video as a source except it seems like one of the bigger ones that show up in a Youtube search, and they do touch on a lot of sources. Their research just seems really shallow and their commentary on the issue is rudimentary to the point of being unnecessary tbh.

I watched Shen Yun tonight.

I thought it was just traditional Chinese dancing.

I was wrong.

Didn't think I'd be called a cancerous tumor today.

Mom and I have decided to repress the memory after we looked it up online and found out it's a goddamn cult.

Hello! So I’m being forced to see Shen Yun against my will. So I will live blog the entire experience.

For context. My mom and grandma brought tickets as a surprise, I stated my opinion about Shen yun and Falun Gong to both them and my older brother (who agreed with me) but my mom and grandma got so angry over me saying no because “the tickets were expensive”.

Currently I’m in the theatre. Most people seeing these are seniors, most young people are there because of their parents/grandparents.

Today I started to watch a video on a Youtube Danmei channel and before it started, YT ran a trailer/ad for an anti-trans "docudrama" made by Epoch tv (which is Epoch Times, which is the anti-lgbtq+, anti-vax, qanon conspiracy-pushing cult Falun Gong).

Of course the trailer started out seeming like it might be trans-sympathetic, but the longer it went on it became clear that it would be about youth being traumatized by being allowed to transition and that corporations and doctors are pushing a "trans agenda" and lying to parents.

I am so angry. This was a couple of hours ago and I still haven't calmed down. It's especially enraging that they would run this ad on queer content, while YT regularly de-monetizes queer creators with the excuse that advertisers might not be comfortable sponsoring queer content.

I reported the ad as a violation of YT policies (discrimination) and commented that they should not accept hate speech advertising from a cult. Idk if reporting will do anything but I don't know what else to do. If you see it, please report it too.

Okay, so my mom's boyfriend is getting Shen Yun tickets and is looking for some codes for it.

I would have used the Norm Macdonald meme but with the original context being that he was talking about a trans person getting murdered and how "everyone in this story should die"... yeah it's not a good look.

If you don't know what Shen Yun is, it's basically a dance show for Falun Gong/Falun Dafa, a homophobic racist cult that you definitely should not be supporting despite persecution from the Chinese government. Two things can suck at the same time.

Falun Gong is considered a cult and uses methods of cult indoctrination (Brainwashing). 

For example, Li Hongzhi can read people's minds and that his fashen or “law bodies” — basically, copies of himself that exist in a spiritual dimension — were always next to them and watching their every move and thought.

When someone is able to leave a high control group and out of that environment they can begin to think for themselves again. 

Some of the methods are the same and overlap with TBMC, but high control groups/cults people can join as adults and raise their children in where the children become indoctrinated into the belief system.
