eternals ramblings from my rewatch today:
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. ikaris makes an entrance he is accompanied by a huge swell of music, often the eternals theme, to the point where it almost feels like his theme. something to be said here about how he believes himself to be more Eternal than the rest
our first sight of sprite in modern era being her clearly trying to hook up with a guy but the moment he touches her the illusion breaks and she has to go - i cannot believe the pain of living for MILLENNIA in a child’s body she never got to do human things like romance or puberty or whatever
when they first go to earth sersi looks to ajak AND THEN IKARIS for reassurance/permission before going to make contact with the human kid
watching sprite’s London convo with sersi knowing that she’s in love w ikaris and jealous of sersi hits different. she told sersi to move in with dane. it could be sweet, it could be a ploy to push sersi and ikaris further apart, it could be both bc family relationships are difficult like that and sprite clearly loves sersi even though she’s ‘always envied’ her
sersi TURNED THE GROUND INTO QUICKSAND to fight a deviant this is a big deal to me because i wrote a ton of speculation fic based on the trailers before the movie came out and i had her do exactly the same thing in a fight scene - not to toot my own horn but im impressed at how much i managed to extrapolate correctly just from the teasers
i CAN ACTUALLY TELL WHAT MAKKARI IS SAYING OH MY GOD I COULDN’T TELL THE FIRST TIME BECAUSE I WAS WATCHING A SHITTY PIRATED VERSION THAT DIDN’T SUBTITLE HER SIGNING
makkari’s last line is ‘the truth will set them free’. this is a bible verse. i don’t know if it’s intentional but they’re quoting jesus
sersi is such a jesus character to me. treats sprite and ikaris with love even though they hurt her massively
sprite is one of the most storytellers actually (gilgamesh did all these epic things. one day you and your people will sail around the world and make your own legends!)
how does ikaris know how to woo. did he watch the humans and learn from them?

i was so touched by sprite helping thena break out of the flashback by showing her illusions of her past like it works SO well
they should all have just stayed together. kingo was right. they should all have stayed together. they hurt each other but they also know how to help each other

why is everyone in love with ikaris really if he betrayed them in the end
‘are you going to charm me or threaten me’? that’s probably why. he’s a leader. he’s the strongest one. he knows how to be charismatic and how to be firm, keep the peace, et cetera. half of them love him and the other half are wary of, even maybe jealous of him
it’s really interesting to me how druig listens to and respects sersi even though he hates ikaris’ guts. he obviously doesn’t see them as a unit.
in fact everyone’s feelings towards each other are really intriguing i should chart a family tree but instead of ‘birthed’ and ‘married’ lines its ‘loves’ ‘hates’ ‘envies’ etc
the way sersi whisper shouts at ikaris and tries to pull him away they were both staring at jack and phastos but she knows it’s rude he doesn’t he’s just staring openly until she reminds him

the way makkari smiles at everyone and signs ‘ready to go home?’ when they come back to the domo hit me like a TON of BRICKS. she was the last one to find out. goddamn. i can’t imagine the existential crises they were all collectively going through no WONDER tempers were high no WONDER they fought
related: i’m sure they said a lot of things they didn’t mean especially phastos. ‘i’ve always wanted to clip your wings, ikaris’ doesn’t mean he actively hated ikaris the entire time. it’s just like you know when you find out someone did something shitty and your reflex response is to go ‘i ALWAYS KNEW YOU WERE THAT KIND OF PERSON! YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THIS KIND OF PERSON!’ because memory bias you remember the shitty things more than the good things. same with ‘you did always underestimate [sersi]’. did ikaris really?? or did he live and fight with and watch and love her for five thousand years and conclude, like the rest of the others, like sersi herself, that sersi’s powers only go so far? her powers didn’t begin changing until she was selected as prime eternal. if ikaris underestimated sersi so did everyone including sersi herself.
my take on why ikaris did what he did - he wanted to believe that his previous actions were justified/had a purpose. he lied to everyone, he left his wife, he told no one the truth for years because ajak had him convinced that his life’s purpose was to serve the mission. and then ajak calls off the mission at the last moment. he didn’t want to believe that he had hurt other people, had hurt himself, for no reason. he couldn’t accept that his suffering was for nothing. he had to go through with the emergence because otherwise none of it mattered. and he couldn’t deal with that. ikaris i can tell isn’t good at dealing with the fact that he makes mistakes. he told sersi he was sorry and then flew headfirst into the sun. he smacks of eldest child syndrome AND gifted kid depression.
ok for real this is the last bullet point. the writing was questionable. the editing was bad. the characters weren’t given enough establishing time - it was a bad idea to do such a huge story in movie format (it should have been a tv show). that said the actors put their whole actussy into this and you can tell chloe zhao tried her utmost best. it’s not a great movie but i still love it because i love this huge unconventional, complex family

what sort of gifts do they like? things she can use, like knives or books. but she would also cherish getting concert tickets because it means she and the gift giver are going to do something together and that’s very fun.

thoughts on drugs and alcohol: udyati doesn’t do drugs but she does occasionally like to partake in drinking. but only the sweet stuff. and only up to, like, two glasses. three, max. she prefers to keep a clear head. just in case.
do they smoke? If so, do they want to quit? udyati does not smoke because xiomara has three quarters of a lung and asthma. aside from that, xiomara has just stopped her asthma medication after twenty years. so she wants to make that transition as easy on her best friend as she can.
have they ever tried other drugs (which, what happened, consequences): no.
do they have any addictions?: not that she knows of.
other details.
most important/defining event in life to date: being turned into kalindi’s puppet and breaking free from that. getting together with daisuke in book canon.
daily routine: wake up, get ready, go to school, go home, do assignments, hang out with her friends, lather, rinse, repeat. though, she gets called away for off planet duties a lot afterwards so she mostly does her assignment in the evening / in the night. and, no, udyati does not get enough sleep. not nearly enough.
typical saturday night: if she’s not catching up on assignments, or off planet, she’s hanging out with her mom, or with her friends. she tries to make as much time for both of them as she can. when she’s with her friends, they go to downtown katendam and just hang out at the skate park. sometimes they go to the movies. sometimes they sit on the sidewalk and watch people.
what is home like (messy, neat, sparse): small and neat. but not too neat. it’s a house that’s lived in. a houe that’s loved. or so udyati keeps insisting.
pets?: if not, do they want any?: udyati would love a pet but her mom is very allergic so no pets for her.
can they hold their breath for a long time?: she can hold her breath for a regular amount of time.
do they know how to swim? yeah. udyati loves being in the water. it’s a miracle she hasn’t grown gills yet.
can they cook (if so, how well and do they enjoy it)?: yes, she’s taught herself and she’s good at it. she likes it well enough but she’d just as easily get take out if her mom works late.

Today, I heard a very emotional comment about me. Yung papunta na naman sa quote na " Wala ka pa namang napapatunayan". Yeah I get it. First time I've heard it, sa ex ko pa na five years na ako ang gumagastos sa relationship namin hanggang may mapatunayan siya sa buhay niya. Love him at his lowest and watch him cheat at his best.
That was the time na I really tried very hard to get a promotion. Kase di kaya ng ego ko yung sinabi niya. Na promote ako and was able to continue yung help ko sa family ko. Napa enroll ang kapatid, natulungan si ate magstart ng small business, nakabayad ng utang ni mama, nakabayad ng kotse ni tatay until ako na lang yung maubos at wala ng matira sa sarili ko. I was so selfless back then. Pero babalik pa rin tayo sa "wala ka pa rin namang napapatunyan". I comforted myself with all the love I was able to give to my family and all got it return was a petty way of comparing me to other people. I was never heard, I was underappreciated.
On September my current boyfriend cheated on me with his TL for almost half a year and only found out two months after they ended. It was the craziest roller coaster mentally draining kind of cheating that I've experienced. I don't know where to start, I don't know how to react either. Again, my ego was in line. Na bakit? Bakit binuntis mo muna ko bago ko malaman na may iba pala for the past months? And all of the people around the apartment, kahit isa walang nagsalita or nagkaroon ng concern about me to know the truth. Kahit babae.
I saw all the hints, I saw some fine line but because I trusted you, naglaho lang lahat ng akala ko totoo. Yeah I was chosen in the end but right after she decided to end it all. I tried to be okay atleast for the baby. I hated my self back then, self pitty, I hated how ignorant I was with my decisions pero sino ba ko para pagkaitan ng tatay yung anak ko. For someone who witnessed the cheating incident ng tatay ko at kabit niya last 2017, I know how it changes me to a cold hearted bitch na galit sa mundo years after that. And I don't want my child to experience that. I was trying to forgive him while I was hurting. I was trying to be okay but the trauma was sickening. It was mind wrecking and nakakabaliw na I'm trying to to be okay infront of the people who betrayed me.
And now, all I wanna do after ko manganak is strive harder para may mapatunayan. Hindi para sa iba, hindi para sa ego ko, kundi para sa anak ko. I badly want her to be proud of me someday. Kahit siya na lang. I will keep pursuing what I want and reaching another mile para lang mabigyan siya ng maayos at masayang pamilya.

This film titled Moral was made in 1982 a Filipino film directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya. The whole story is focusing on four women who were bff’s portray by 4 great actresses in the Philippines. First is Ana Marin as Maritess, next is Gina Alajar as Kathy the third one is Sandy Andlong as Sylivia and last is Lorna Tolentino as Joey.
The whole story possesses the reality of what woman dealing in their lives in this society as a woman. From the start of the story the scene tells that the four-woman was close to each other like a sisterhood and as a friend. They are both student in same University. Sylvia is the most matured in the group her characters was brave and trustworthy despite of being single mother her attributes as a woman can’t be deny the next is Maritess in the first part of the story the setting of the scene was focus on her wedding day and even she’s pregnant Maritess still continuing her college life with her friends the characteristics that I saw to this woman is a Daydreamer her poems were amazing and interpret her truly desire. The third one is Sandy the most talented and passionate women in the group her talent was singing she’s on fire on her desire to be on top and have solo album. The last one is Joey her attitude and character embodied the mean of black sheep in the group even thou her contribution is essential to fulfil the missing part of the group.
Like what I said this film revolves to all women reflecting their point of view in this kind of society. We all know the unheard struggle they are experiencing and embracing every day from stereo type system and because of this I become enlighten from some small glimpses that I overlook from them, and this is all kinds of women I encounter while watching this film:
The traditional women: This title I given was referring to the head of the home where Maritess where living and this is the mother of her husband. This kind of mother-in-law is typical mother-in-law that I know here at the Philippines were even their sprout have own family they still have grudge of possession between a mother to their son. This line gave me the reason to emphasize this insight. “Kagaya nang sabi ng nanay, ano ang silbi ng babae kung hindi to manganganak, ang babae pinanganak para manganak. Ang sabi pa ng nanay ko ang babaeng baog daw parang balong walang tubig, salok ng salok ang lalaki wala paring mangyayari” The whole mean of this qoute is the reason why women exist in this world is just to produce other lives and if she can’t do this her existent is useless. Yes, this is harsh word that you may receive from older human and this kind of mindset still exist and pass from different generation. From the first word this mother-in-law telling the story that her mother told to her before, so it means. This kind of mindset was occurred before when some women accept the stereo fact that they are just child bearer. If we reflect this in 2021 I can say that this kind of mindset is off to our new society and the minimal person who follow this close minded.
Daydreamer yet oppress: This woman I telling is Maritess, Maritess was a fond of poetry and this kind of talent reflects her characteristics as an innocent and optimistic woman. She wrote poems base on what she feels and interpret it proudly. However, despite of being candidate from lot of opportunities she was lock up as a wife to her husband. Maritess was graduate on bachelor degree but not like others student who pursue a career her life revolves on mother duties. “Bakit hindi ba yung lalaki yung nanganganak? Bakit tayo yung nahihirapan nang ganito? Every day I feel used I feel abused. Buong araw ako nag ttrabaho sa bahay, buong araw din ako ginagamit ng baby ko, pag dating ng gabi ang asawa ko naman yung aasikasuhin ko. Siya naman yung gagamit sakin...... Parang wala na kong Personalidad ngayon parang nalang akong Makina” Maritess say this quote after she realize that she doesn’t want to stay as a mother, wife and son-in-law forever. There’s a lot Maritess right now a woman who stop being herself because of responsibilities that turns into burden they think that bearing a sibling can flip your life into constant duties and everything revolving for your family. Good thing at the end of the story Maritess didn’t stay as a prisoner but she lifts her identity as women far from what society Identify her.
Passionate heart yet opportunist: If you ask me who’s the most focus and consistent in the group that was Kathy because of her talent she become passionate and straight forward through life maybe she’s not the bravest but her attitude to find ways makes her eyes blind from fears and distraction. Her turning point in this story is when she realizes after everything, she did is meaningless because the process she pursue are not meant into her desire success
“Sagutin moko, satingin moba magiging magaling akong singer?.......... Siguro medyo late na,pero narealize ko. I don't want to sing anymore if I can't be very good” she asks this to her friend sylvia and after that she decide to left her build name at singing career and after that she decide to herself to train hard as a singer. Kathy is a kind of women who passionate and self-driven she doesn’t let others makes her life into material but she’s the one who did that to other.
Matured women yet masochist: Sylvia is the most brave and matured women in the group there’s no such things in this world that makes she back off. sylvia is the most brave and matured women in the group there’s no such things in this world that makes she back off. She teaching at catholic school for all women student despite of having old tradition implemented to that school her character and identity remain. She also a single mother and base on how she raising her son she is a modern mother, parenting while studying is one of kind she did however there’s one only conflict in her life and that’s the issue between her ex-husband,
“Mahal mo ako, mahal ko yung asawa ko yung asawa ko mahal si celso, si celso pinamimigay yung sarili sa ibang lalaki. Pede na tayong mag tayo ng TEAM!
At first when sylvia knows that the other partner of her husband was also a man she cried a lot and ask herself what she done and why she’s not enough but after the first meeting between her and Celso her husband partner they become friends and pursue polyamorous relationship, a kind of relationship who ware open for more than two people while other man in love to Sylvia, Sylvia was in love to her husband and her husband was in love to his partner but celso also entertain others. A s you see this is not a typical kind of relationship but Sylvia overcome this for the sake of love. Do you think she’s wrong is this immoral? For me it’s not, because she did things what other people only think, she sacrifices far greater behind others who thinks they are in love.
Free Spirit yet not Satisfied: “Malalaman mo daw ang personality ng lalaki kapag tinitignan mo ang brief niya, Kapag ang lalaki gust ng brief na masikip ibigsabihin insecure siya,Kapag maluwag ibigsabihin tamad siya. Kapag gusto naman iisa lang kulay lalo na puti ibigsabihin mahilig sila sa birhen..... Sa dami ng nakita ko pede nako mag patayo ng DEPARTMENT STORE”This last character was the most awful story for me. Joey was a drug and sex addict in her group of friends she’s the living black sheep despite of being little sister. Even though she identity man like just a material that destine to use Joey once become in love into men and he was activist in their school his character was a brave man and not afraid in responsibility however this man has relationship with other women that’s the reason even Joey tempts him he resists and reject her. Because of being broken hearted she become more worst to the point she confines into hospital and doctor said that she can bear a life into her womb. Despite of being dark everything has a reason Joey didn’t do that just because she wants it. Her life was become miserable since she was a child when her parent split apart that’s the reason why Joey really hates men. Based on what Psychiatrist said to her that she was stop growing since when her parents move away to each other and that’s the reason why she did those things. Joey is a kind of women who experience unfortunate events that makes her life accept and embrace everything just to live.
The whole story tells a lot on what we overlook in society that each woman in this world was also a main character in their own stories. They work and receive unexpected experience more than on what we think of they are just not a piece of material or a bridge to produce lives they are living god, and that’s the think that we must accept in this kind of generation.

I have brown hair (brown hair from my mom, brown skin from my dad). I’m over 5′6″ tall. I wear glasses/contacts. I have one or more tattoos. I don’t wear makeup very often. My hair is currently dyed (it used to be blue, then purple, and i want to dye it again when businesses open up). I wear pants more often than skirts. I have at least one piercing. I paint my nails. I have a tan. I have freckles on my face. I have blue eyes. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I wear something for religious purposes. I have straight hair. I have/had braces and/or a retainer.
