Uhhh I don’t know if they’ve broken up so I won’t get involved in guessing when.
Although it’s totally valid to come to the conclusion that they’re not together at the moment. They’ve stopped hinting a long time ago and the little “bluegreening” or whatever that’s left for Larries to dissect might not be sufficient enough to outweigh the constant efforts to deflect from rumors that they’re queer or even a couple.
For me it’s easy to stay around because I’ve found peace in not knowing because after all, we never actually knew anything whether we had a million receipts or none. And I’ve found peace in the fact that they’re not obligated to reassure us about anything in regard to their relationship. It is theirs no matter the status. So I fill in the gaps with whatever my hopes are and however I feel like I can be around and enjoy this fandom. And so should everyone else. 🩵

I think I realized my biggest gripe with the fandom experience on Tiktok vs Tumblr.
Tumblr: You can tell that people in fandoms here genuinely have a love for the things that they’re talking about. Every fanart and every fanfic post has so much love put into it. Years after a fandom has faded into obscurity, people will still make stuff for it on here.
TikTok: treats fandom as if it’s fast fashion. You can’t enjoy fandom in a way that they deem “cringe” (or just be autistic and have it as your particular interest). You must share their 100% morally correct opinions or be run off the app. Then after four months, they will call said media you adore a “fad” and say shit like, “I can’t believe people actually liked that 🙄”

I've noted in a few places on your blog how you describe and label the different types of people within fandom and I just want to say thank you because I've found your descriptions accurate and helpful in navigating my movements here. Labels like 'exiles' 'kpop noobs' and 'collectors' make more sense to me than 'OT7' and 'shippers' these days based on what I'm seeing in Chapter 2.
My question for you: within fandom what type of fan is your favorite? What types of fans do the most good for the artist or improve fandom? Is it streamers? Buyers? OT7s? Collectors? What types of fans do you gravitate to most?
Thank you.
***
My favourite people in fandom are the remixers.
The music nerds and hobbyist producers who take various songs, use their tastes, theory knowledge and software to reimagine them into something more fun.
So these are people who reconstruct instrumentals, make medleys, mashups, covers, etc. There are some really good ones too. A selection of some I like:
NewJeans ETA (R&B Remix) by Marukoabeats
youtube
*
lovely serendipity | mashup by PawPaw
youtube
*
Agust D ft. RM – Strange (instrumental) by uncanny
youtube
*
134340 by uncanny
youtube
*
Dream Glow by ZSunder
youtube
*
AI covers are usually a pass but this one by dijei 디제이 of Dean covering NewJeans is just too good to pass up.
youtube
*
Baseline instrumental remake by LY

Within ARMY, @/btsharmonies is doing the Lord's work making vocal pulls, instrumentals, and summary essays exploring the musicality in BTS's discography (group and solo works), such as in threads like this. You can search their account for things like split vocals, acappella vocals, etc. If you're a fiend for Jimin's vocals devoid of any assortments like me, you'd find yourself making her account a regular stop. (Also helps that she's a Hobi bias so we're usually on the same wavelength about most things musically.)
I listen to a lot of music so having a similar but fresh take on a song I already like is a welcome addition to my streaming. These remixes/intrumentals also make great templates for karaoke with friends. So, remixers contribute the most to my fandom experience. After them, I'd say fan artists come next.
As for the other classes/labels of people you mentioned, as I've said before, most of my meaningful fandom interactions actually happen offline, so a lot of the 'OT7s' I spend the most time interacting with, are people I know in real life and are good friends of mine. Everyone else I just sort of observe... and most of what I do online too, is watch. Lol.

Literally, the only rule I follow now when it comes to enjoying any piece of media is: Does this spark joy? Yes? Okay, we're keeping this.

BBC Merlin fandom on December 24th, 2022: It has been ten years since the finale. 😭 Remember when they crushed our dreams and tore out our hearts? 💔 Every fanwork you see will evoke 13 repressed feelings and make you yearn for a future you'll never behold. That finale hurt me like nothing else. I still can't believe that happened! 😫
Leverage fandom on December 25th, 2022: It has been ten years since the finale! 😄 Remember when they not only fulfilled, but exceeded, our hopes for the conclusion? ❤️ Let's celebrate the way we saw five seasons of character development draw together beautifully. That finale impressed me like nothing else. I still can't believe that happened! 😍
Where are my besties in both fandoms who have enjoyed the whiplash with me? 😘
Also, there have got to be at least a few people who experienced both these finales in real time, and wherever you may be, please tell me what that was like. I beg of you.

"Confession: I find it really interesting that a lot of people have felt that negativity has been expressed against their respective ships in Trek fandom. Maybe that’s just because I heavily curate my own experience, but I didn’t know there WAS ship discourse or anti thoughts towards ships until I found this blog. Not that critique isn’t warranted against certain fans for shitty behavior, but still surprising surprising since Trek fandom has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for myself and my friends."

Have you ever gone into a show thinking 'this will be fun and mindless' only to find yourself writing paragraph upon paragraph of detailed analysis because a set of character caught your eye?

Starting to think the only way I can consume bts-related content is by removing myself from fandom spaces entirely. Sorry to use this as a space to rant but the constant black/white thinking, competitiveness to prove who's the biggest fan, cherry-picking performative activism, worshipping etc is all becoming too much to the point I feel sort of burnt out and ready for a break. I know you've addressed these aspects a lot on here and I really appreciate the honesty and space for discussion.
I got into bts during their boy with luv comeback in 2019 and they quickly became my whole life -- I basically only thought about or spoke about them, to the point it was unhealthy. I stepped away from the fandom a little bit in 2022 after some aggravating experiences but this year I got back into them because I loved Namjoon and Jimin's solo releases, and remembered how much comfort I took from their music and content. I started venturing back into army social media spaces.
But oh my god, it's honestly unbearable out there and it's exhausting. I'm so sick of the way armys worship and idolize these seven men like they aren't even human. They put them above their values and dedicate their entire lives to them, and don't see anything wrong with that. I'm a little apprehensive for 2025 because who knows what the fandom will look like by then? I guess it's just hard to reconcile being a fan of the group but not wanting to be associated with the stans. Do you have a balance between enjoying the content but not being driven crazy by army? lmao
I mean, the only way you can truly enjoy the content is to move yourself away completely from fandom spaces, particularly those focused on discourse. For example, I can't avoid army or the daily issue even if I follow some Jimin accounts because of course they're bringing up whatever is happening, usually criticism. And then it adds up and before you know it, you get angry everyday so where does that leave us?
A solution, at least from what I've noticed and if you want to still be aware of what's going on and enjoy the experience, apart from paying attention to content, would be to follow focused accounts on something very specific. Like strictly career updates or more on the fun side which usually post images and videos.
But apart from that, take breaks, make sure you find other stuff to be interested about and not just this. I try to curate my twitter feed and tumblr dashboard with lots of other areas of interest, mixing it up so I don't get sucked into BTS discourse and everything adjacent to it. But then, without asking, I still get the info in my inbox which is not always ideal, but that's on me and having an active blog.

My experience with the Zadr community:
Tw:Proshipping/children in s3xual situations/ possible grooming
I love Zadr, I think the ship’s great and has a lot of depth and potential, but omfg I hate most of the community surrounding it. Like, I remember talking to a (particularly well known) zadr artist when I was 14 on an old account on here and she basically tried getting me into proshipping, allowed for me to watch her nsfw art streams despite knowing I was a minor, and only after I found her nsfw twt (which had full on drawn C-heese P-izza on it) did I finally delete my account and block her. Before anyone asks, I don’t have screenshots of any of my interactions with said user due to me being a scared 14 year old and not knowing at the time of it was really as big of an offense as I felt it was. I’m also not going to give their username as I don’t want any unwanted attention from her fans because ultimately this isn’t about exposing anyone, it’s just my experiences in this sub-fandom. I’ve had a lot of positive interactions with people in the zadr community, but I have to say my experience with this one particular person might be the worst I’ve ever had from any fandom I’ve been in (yes, I’m apart of the MLP fandom and I was apart of the DSMP and MHA fandom at one point). The thing was that I idolized this person and when she followed me, I felt like I really accomplished something, and when we began messaging each other, that sense of pride only grew. I have to reiterate that this isn’t a hit-piece or anything like that, this (again) is just my experience and nothing more.
Please be careful online.

Honestly as someone who was a massive Britney fan in the 2000s and watched what felt like the entire world tear her apart infront of me, I learned long ago to not need validation from others, especially a corrupt industry to love the things I want to love.
That said I did used to find myself getting too worked up over things going on with or being done to bts and this time last year that billboard article would have really gotten under my skin, but now I just cannot find it in me to care. I feel like chapter 2 has helped me regain a healtheir fan perspective with them and I just want to enjoy the boys and what they do and that be that.
I used to lurk on a pop forum in my country and I'd watch them call army "mass buyers" and "bot streams" just to turn around the next day and organise their own forum wide buying and streaming campaigns (including vpn) to help artists they approve of chart. Literally all music fans do the same thing, it's quite laughable how hypocritical all these people always are.
If I could gift anything to people who still get stressed about this stuff, it would be to reach a similar place, where focusing on your enjoyment of what the members are doing is enough. At the end of the day the rest of it is just noise.

sometimes we feel such an intense shame for not being able to let go of some things we like. we are still in dsmp phase. still in homestuck phase. still in kuroshitsuji phase. all things we liked in middle school (aside dsmp bless our heart we're old) we still like just as intensely. it's weird. but the shame doesn't come from there specifically. the shame comes when we see people we saw liking and creating stuff for the same fandoms as us move on. while we can't. we see our friends move on, people we follow, etcetc all the time. and we can't do it efficiently or fast enough to not feel like we're wrong. i dont know what exactly is responcible for this feeling, some sort of trauma, the internet culture or something else, but i would really like it to stop

After talking with @floydsin, there are a lot of talented artists on Twitter who draw incredible fanart for TGM. As I'm more familiar with Japanese artists/fandom, I would like to head up something regarding fanart based on my personal experiences.
As Japan has strict copyright laws and fanwork is in the grey area, please don't repost their work without their permission. Most Japanese artists aren't comfortable with it because they can't control how far their work would go. Giving the credit or link back to the source is not enough. There are many cases the artist deleted all works/accounts or locked them in private because of it.
If you want to compliment their work but cannot speak their langue, please do it in English by using wording that is genuine and simple as possible. Indirect comments sometimes have caused them to confuse/ misunderstanding about your truly intention.
This may not familiar with western fandom. Most of them have preference of who would be top or bottom, and these positions won't be changed. If someone draw Rooster!top, he will be forever top in all of their works.
Rooster/Maverick is very popular. If you don't like their work, please don't engage. IMO we should respect all creators for their contributions even it isn't for us.
Below are some handy wording that use among Japanese fan if you want to explore.
マーヴェリック (Maverick)
マーヴ or マーヴェ (Mav)
ブラッドリー (Bradley)
ルースター (Rooster)
ブラッドショウ (Bradshaw)
アイスマン (Iceman)
アイス (Ice)
ハングマン (Hangman)
フェニックス (Phoenix)
ボブ (Bob)
ルスハン (ru-su-han = Hangman/Rooster paring)
ハンルス (han-ru-su = Hangman/Rooster paring)
アイマヴェ (ai-ma-ve = IceMav paring)
🐔 Bradley emoji
🥴 Jake emoji
🐺 Mav emoji
🧊 Ice emoji
