I'm curious about readers' interaction habits! Please pick the option for what you do typically. That's right, I'm not giving you an "other" or "see results" option; if you don't read fic then this poll isn't about you; if it depends, vote for what you do most often and clarify in the tags. And consider reblogging for a bigger sample size!

sorry for turning this blog into a wof blog for a week but like wouldn’t it be neat if every tribe had their own mythos to how their tribe got their abilities
ice wings have the great ice dragon, which was said to have created the ice wings from its own breath to protect the arctic kingdom
sky wings believe there was a brave skywing that flew into the sun and brought back fire so that their tribe could defend itself, which also made them the first firescales
nightwings believe they fell from the stars
et cetera ya catch my drift?

cant stop thinking about that one episode of torchwood where they drive a character insane by making him think hes a serial killer and then he has a breakdown to his boyfriend about it and his boyfriend is just like no the fuck youre not i dont care that you remember killing people. fuck that. we’re gonna solve this
and then they erase two days of their memories and they all question it like once and then suddenly just go oh okay this is fine. no more questions. i never needed those two days
like okay what the Fuck

Unpopular opinion time:
Been watching a bit of Cyberverse again recently and I gotta say, I way prefer the Cyberverse take on Tarn over the MTMTE one!
Tumblr media
I just find that version so much more interesting as a character, than the overly edgy leader of the DJD...
Even when MTMTE was being released I never really got the hype around Tarn, I suppose its the Boba Fett effect, a cool design can really carry a character into popularity even if there's not all that much to go off in the source text.!
(I love MTMTE but admittedly I can't say I ever found the villains all that compelling/interesting, with the exception of Getaway and to a lesser extent Pharma, though Lost Light's rushed conclusion kinda cut that short too.)
It kinda illustrates why trying out new ideas / continuities in the franchise is a good thing, it can completely change your feelings towards a character or do something cool with neglected concepts etc ...

As much as I would like to believe it, I can’t accept that Gerry is genuinely happy living with Gertrude. The situation is too suspicious for me to take it at face value. Gertrude acting very forceful in the conversation, immediately answering for Gerry and then sighing in relief when he says he can't remember anything about the Magnus Institute, and the static that played when Sam and celia left. Also she told them to "hunt elsewhere" which feels like very intentional phrasing.
Then there's Gerry. I get the idea that he's happy in this universe because he's not traumatised, but he feels too happy in an unsettling way. He's so blasé about everything. He lets two strangers into his house with no qualms, lets them take one of his paintings, and acts so upbeat that it feels unnatural- like he's being compelled.
It's all so fucking odd.
Also, where is Mary Keay? Did she also die in this universe? What age was Gerry when that happened? When did he start living with Gertrude? Gerry seems to be filling the same role that Michael filled for Gertude in the tma universe, which is massively worrying.
But at the end of the day, we don't yet know if Gertrude would act the same as she did in tma since she's not the Archivist in this universe (assumedly). Still a red flag though.

I keep forgetting how TAME a lot of self proclaimed bad guy enthusiasts are, especially in mainstream fandoms.
I respect your taste but that’s not what I’m looking for, I’m not here for a misunderstood brooding bad boy I think it’s very hot when they torment and enslave the innocent.

I've seen several comments since the trailer dropped about things appearing to be "like fanfic" or "fanservice" with a negative connotation.
I think I posted about this before, but I will do it again because it's something that really grinds my gears, especially when it comes to saying this about LGTBQ content (which, most of the time, is what I see receiving that comment).
It feels very homophobic, like same-sex relationships only belong in fanfic aka amateur and not professional writing.
Historically, fanfic was a portal to create the audience-desired diversity that was missing from the canon material. You all know that shows/books/movies were all straight and primarily white.
Many of today's storytellers and story creators, no matter the medium, were in fandom and wrote/read fanfic (including Lisa). Fandom was a gateway for them to learn about what the audience wanted - what they wanted. It drove them to be the people telling those stories. Now, they are creating the stories that they wanted to see, that they wished they had back then.
Why are we putting that down? In fandom? It boggles the mind.
I know we're not used to seeing things like supporting or background queer characters hooking up. Or a friends' group primarily filled with queer people (although that is 100% proven to be the way things work in real life). I had someone in the YR fandom (who is now blocked) say that the show is so unbelievable and filled with 'fanservice' because there are so many queer characters in one school. Yeah. :\ That's so untrue and so, so homophobic.
Anyway.... having queer characters do queer things in canon doesn't mean it's amateur writing (or worse, thinking that it's terrible writing).
There are legit discussions on when fanservice made or broke a story - both have examples - BIG ones - in the Star Wars universe.

I understand that fandom saw Amanda’s “Vi isn’t the first girl Cait snuck into her room” comment and wanted the combat the idea of Caitlyn being a shy virgin with Vi, but I just can’t Vi being recast as the shy virgin in the relationship?
I mean look at the iconic “you’re hot cupcake”, look at the unabashed confidence Vi has in flirt, in taking Cait and pushing her against the wall. And I mean just the complete lack of fucks she gives in just waltzing into a brothel compared to Caitlyn’s initial discomfort.
I feel like neither Caitlyn and Vi fit that awkward and shy archetype that fandom always wants one side of a couple to be, I think fandoms should be more open to writing couple where both partners are experienced and confident.

How to tell if your vulcan buddy is into you
The first thing to establish is why your vulcan chose you in the first place. There are two main methods vulcans use to choose an intended mate. The first is obviously based on logical criteria. This is a process that evaluates personality, ethics, and life goals to estimate compatibility. Mental/psychic compatibility is also evaluated alongside other criteria but is often weighted more heavily, with psychic incompatibility being a huge dealbreaker. The other method is shon-ha'lok, loosely translating to love at first sight. This traditionally describes the state of being in romantic infatuation/obsession with someone but is often used by vulcans to describe one who chooses an illogical choice of mate. It is however possible to be in shon-ha'lok for someone who is also a logical choice of mate.
As with human courting, actions are functional, either being used to demonstrate worthiness as a potential partner or to fulfill internal desires. They can be sorted into the five love languages.
Gift Giving: Gifts have a long history of relevance in vulcan marriages. In historical times, gifts were often expensive and extravagant. This is not necessary in a post scarcity society so vulcans commonly give gifts that are thoughtful and personalized to the receiver. Vulcans very rarely give gifts in this manner to another vulcan who is not A. their intended or B. a family member because it may be seen as nosy. Gifts given may be functional (ex. a can opener), decorative (ex. an art piece), or just enriching to your life (ex. a tea flavor you just ran out of, a book you mentioned was hard to find again)
Quality Time: Spending time with another is a logical way to measure compatibility through conversation and psychic proximity. However, vulcans have a looser definition of how much quality time is needed before marriage than humans. Any time spent together that fulfills these criteria is counted as quality time including time spent together for work or social group purposes. Additionally, vulcans avoid complete isolation with their intended (they're trying to avoid the temptation to maul you) and will prefer instead partial isolation, such as public parks or restaurants.
Physical Touch: Hand-to-hand contact is not only a logical way to measure psychic compatibility but is also physically desirable. This may be expressed as subtle touches (ex. brushing hands when giving each other objects, resting your hands near theirs.. etc.) or deliberate (offering the ozh'esta, touching their arm to get their attention, pressing their shoulder to lead them along.. etc.) Physical contact is taboo in vulcan culture so touching someone unnecessarily is specifically notable.
Words of Affirmation: In general vulcans only say things that are true and do not exaggerate facts to flatter. Excessive praise is thus reserved for things that are truly extraordinary. However if excessive praise is given, it could possibly indicate a romantic bias. This includes praise that is a personal expression of emotion (ex. I like your eyes, I enjoyed your performance) Pet names and expressions of endearment are usually reserved for relationships that are more cemented but occasionally if a vulcan is really down bad for their intended, they may use them earlier.
Acts of Service: Caring for one's intended is a logical way to demonstrate capability as a logical mate. This includes an attentiveness to your needs that outpaces even human friendships (ex. providing food or snacks, fetch quests for you) In the courtship stages, vulcans will temper this desire, balancing it with public decorum. However, this may include actions that are nosy and intrusive by human standards (ex. organizing your cupboard, folding your laundry) By vulcan standards, inviting your intended to your home to hang out casually is an intimate milestone and indicates a deep commitment to the relationship, soon before a proposal. So touching their things is not especially more intimate than the mind meld you'll have soon if not already.
You may notice that many of these things are very typical for a normal human friendship and thus not particularly intimate. This is because vulcans are so ridiculously reserved that expressing the love languages at all is very notable.
There are of course, cases where vulcans may do these things not because they've chosen an intended, but because they've chosen to integrate with humans and reciprocate their actions of friendship. In this case, you can tell the difference because vulcans can't pine romantically for years. Not only is it illogical, but biology will inevitably force their hand in some way. If rejected they will either enforce distance and move on (abruptly ending all displays of affection whatsoever) or stubbornly attempt to change their intended's mind, increasing their displays and attempting to resolve any perceived obstructions (if it's another person this can lead to violence)
Vulcans technically have a sixth love language which is their mental contact but nothing substantial is done with this until bonding.

I Headcanon that Miquella helped make Ranni’s doll form, possibly giving it a skeleton of unalloyed gold to fend off the influence of Outer Gods (and also maybe why Ranni doesn’t move much bc gold is heavy as fuck.)

I was discussing the Season two episode"Ted," recently, and even while I watched the show as a teenager during the original airing, there was always something about this episode that made me uncomfortable.
For those who recently started following me, I'm a social worker within the child welfare system. So, I have a habit of viewing things through my "social worker lense." Everytime I watch this episode, I find myself disappointed at the writers for the missed opportunities in addressing some of the more serious themes presented to the audience.
Sure, "mom's dating again," here are some feelings you might associate with that new element (isolation, feeling left out, boyfriend is an idiot), and that is all good, BUT the episode took a complete turn toward wrong when Joyce refused to believe Buffy.
Hear me out. I've seen too many situations of little girls coming into foster care after being removed from their homes because mom's boyfriend abused them in some way. In most of these scenario, the child has informed their mom about the abuse and it went ignored. The mom would claim the child is lying because of her delinquent behaviors and continue on with the relationship.
Sound familiar? It might, because that's what Joyce did in the episode. The writers may have tried to nullify Joyce's actions by having Ted drug her, but you see that's also a grave mistake. Sometimes drugs are present in these real life scenarios as well. It's still no excuse.
This is what happens when parents introduce people (who maybe they havent fully vetted) into their children's lives, opening them up to all kinds of dangers. If your child tells you your SO makes them feel uncomfortable. BELIEVE THEM.
The writers missed the mark on this one.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this, it is television after all, but I feel like how the show addressed the subject matter was irresponsible. When the conflict was "resolved," there should have been some assurance from Joyce that as her mother, she's her protector (regardless if Buffy is the Slayer). We didn't get that.
We got bad boyfriend robot story.
Verdict: Parents who neglect their children and people who abuse children are the real monsters.
P.S. I love Buffy. Sometimes I get thinky thoughts about the episodes that haven't aged well with me since my frontal lobe has fully developed.
