Reverse "only one bed" where there are too many beds, can still have them ending up in the same bed through the the goldilocks option. Only one bed is just right. (Is it truly because the bed is just more comfortable? Or perhaps because one of them jokingly laid beside them while trying it out?)

Hi there!! Happy New Year!
And about the fanfic tropes game:
-major character death
- there was only one bed
If you're still playing
major character death
F: Hate it. Will immediately make me nope out of a fic.
I've had the unfortunate pleasure of reading a few fics that have MCD (and it's on me because I didn't read the fucking tags correctly) but yeah, if the fic is tagged with MCD, I will absolutely leave the fic. I HATE MCD with the burning passion of a thousand suns
there was only one bed
B: Like it. Not one of my bigger cravings, but it can scratch a certain itch if I’m in the right mood.
It's always a nice treat to read. I don't actively go searching for it, but if it's in a fic I'm reading I'm like "Ho ho, nice"

Think I might have gone a bit too deep, but bear with me:
I feel like there's a factor in OFMD fanfictions that is being mostly ignored, but at the same time has SO much potential, both for comical and serious plot points.
Some people don't know, some people don't want their stories to go there (completely understandable) but hear me out:
VISAs.
In canon, Stede is from Barbados and Ed is from England right? Just picture a ff set in the latter, in which newly divorced Stede sets off to a new life, meets Ed, gay panics and goes "Sorry Ed you're not gonna see me for a while, my VISA has JUST expiredthey'recomingformeokbye!"
AND if it happens as a serious plot point, that's a big motherfucker right there, 'cause immigration WILL have your ass on a platter (sometimes).
And what the hell is Stede even supposed to apply for? We can all agree Ed would have a job; so you make him kiwi, you make him English in the US, Blackbeard has an honest to god work VISA. But STEDE?
He's going through an identity crisis, moving across the world and buying himself a brand new house. He comes from old money so oftentimes he doesn't have a job- you can't.
Doesn't even matter how strong your passport is. You moved in your vacation house without telling a soul, don't pay taxes to the current country you're living in, and you don't have a job?
Good luck renewing your travel/vacation VISA.
JUST THINK ABOUT THE POSSIBILITIES:
Stede never applies for a work VISA because he's SURE he'll come back to his family one day and that he's away for a short period of time (that's been stretching for moths now).
Either one of them has a problem with their permit and is forced to go back, so the other one goes with them for a period of time.
Izzy calls immigration on Stede just because.
Even the trope of marrrying for citizenship is all right if you wanna go there. Why not? It's Fanfiction, if you want it sappy-stereotipical/ I like the view- you do? - you're my best view- eh, you can do it.
Again, if you don't think it would be relevant for your story, you don't need to do it, I just think it has potential.

is understanding a language a person's skill of the brain's capability? cause I'm thinking about body swap scenarios. like, does the swapped person even retain their native language in another body, or does it get overridden with the new brain. do languages stack? or is it like a "oh cool just learned a new trick" thing?
same thing with muscle memory! if a right handed person is in a left handed body, are they suddently ambidextrous? do both cancel out and you're unable to write? probably not. the fucking dissonance created by a mind used to a weak or disabled body in a suddently fit one (maybe you're an amputee then suddently! not anymore! but you're already used to your own thing so it's like "????")
what holds priority in a swap?? what overwrites the other? WHAT ABOUT NEUROTYPICAL IN A NEURODIVERGENT BRAIN'S BODY?????

Least fav AU
The Personality-swap, full stop. No offense but I find these kinds of AUs really annoying.
A lot of the time with AUs the complaint "why don't you make an original storyblablabla" doesn't hold water for the reason Dan Olson says in his 50 Shades video- that being that fanfiction is the ultimate cheat because you the reader are already familiar w the source material and don't need too much fancy/concentrated world building of your own when you have the canon to take off from. This is also why fanfiction should never be treated as a blueprint to writing original fiction; original fiction requires you to write completely from the ground up, not off something you know already.
To me the fun of an AU is taking what's canonically known/agreed on/written of/made about a character and twisting just enough to make it new but still keeping it familiar. It's why I've always loved it in shows where there would be alternate timelines where heroes went down a dark path or villains didn't turn out quite so bad; or for full-scale alternate universes where you make nonhuman characters human or the humans into nonhuman. You get to keep so much of what you already love about something but also still make it someone new.
With personality swaps you're just saying "what if this character acted nothing like how they actually do/acted more like this character?" The fan in me likes that for maybe 2-3 seconds before immediately getting bored and realizing these aren't remotely even the same characters at all.
Role-swapping is different. If you gave someone the bizarro premise of "what if Jean Valjean was a law man having to fight Javert who's a convict" but they committed to it; you wouldn't have the exact same situation. Valjean and Javert do not have the exact same life, motive, personality or thought process. Asking how these men would go about their circumstances and about each other with this change is part of the fun. Just saying "what if Valjean was a bad person and Javert was actually in the right" isn't just playing with Les Mis, it's missing the entire point of Les Mis. At that point you aren't making a different version of the story, you are making a different story.

Grade these fanfiction tropes!
-There was only one bed.
-childhood friends to lovers
-had a chance encounter when they were young. Didn't meet for years until they were older.
Thank you Jina!
There was only one bed
B: Like it. Not one of my bigger cravings, but it can scratch a certain itch if I’m in the right mood.
I do enjoy it every now and then. But I really have to be in a certain mood for it. But if it comes up in a fic or I see it in the tag I'm definitely like 👀👀👀👀👀👀
childhood friends to lovers
D: Not my favorite. I avoid it if I can, but it won’t necessarily put me off reading something.
I've never really been a fan of childhood friends to lovers. And I had an experience where I was in my own childhood friends to lovers story and it ended TERRIBLY so...I tend to avoid it. It just brings up bad memories. I will always pick enemies to lovers over childhood friends/friends to lovers
had a chance encounter when they were young. Didn't meet for years until they were older.
C: Neutral. A good author might be able to sell it, but a bad one will kill it deader than dead.
I honestly don't know how I feel about this one. I'd say I'm neutral to it just because I haven't really encountered it in any story/drama that I've watched but I'm not opposed to it. But again, since I don't really have a lot of...encounters with this particular trope, I'd say I'm neutral to it
