fav Sanders Sides character? (:
I LOVE PJO and HoO! FAv charcter there?
1. Logan for sure, he’s so relatable to me as a gifted kid.
2. This is so unpopular (maybe not anymore) but my favorite PJO/HoO character is Jason. His backstory is actually really interesting and he had huge potential to be a really interesting character, but there were just too many characters in HoO to really focus in on any of them. Regardless, ever since I read Lost Hero I couldn’t understand the Jason hate. Of course I was disappointed by the lack of Percy, like anyone else, but I found myself liking Jason a lot more. I could write a whole essay defending Jason on an actual writing level, but I won’t write it here. If anyone actually would want to read that let me know.

Me navigating the extremely delicate balancing act of loving Marie, loving Cate and knowing damn well that Marie can breathe wrong and have legions of fanpeople turn against her while Cate can go full Homelander and still get Yas Queen!’ed from here to Mars.

Dearlings, what's a TV show Jamie would love but Roy would hate? Drawing a little bit of a blank, and also have rather vague ideas about what's aired and streamed in England. I need it for fic related reasons: help me, fellow fanpeople; you're my only hope.

Y'know what, I'm more of a lurker than an active participant in fandom discourse, but after some recent conversations I've seen and been part of, something occurred to me and I feel like sharing.
I feel like Darienmancers as a whole are some of the most wholesome and least possessive and toxic fanpeople I've seen. I can think of a bunch of Darien lovers from here and the ESO forums and Twitter, and I don't think I've ever seen any of them act like he belongs to them and nobody else can touch him. We just love him and have our shippy headcanons and read about each other's shippy headcanons and share how great we think he is. And I enjoy that about us.
So... rock on with your positive selves, Darienmancers.

Side fight (clonetroopertournament)
Wolffe: Pop-corn?
Rex: Oh, yes. Thank you.
__
https://clonetroopertournament.tumblr.com/post/712870991690416128/wolffe-vs-rex-wolffe-rex
Let be honest, this fight was more a fight with the 501st fanpeople agains the 104th fanpeople. XD I voted for Wolffe because I love this grumpy bast*rd (and because I know that Rex will win anyway).
(The guy chewed by Hardcase is Comet, and the one attacked by Jesse is Warthog.)

How do you feel about Daniel? I think he’s really interesting as a foil to Louis and one of the bigger departures from the source material (which I’m not super familiar with but the choice seems relevant). I feel like fanpeople have a tendency to overlook him unless they’re shipping him with Armand, but in a lot of ways I feel like he’s the second lead after Louis (at least in the first season, more so than Lestat) because he is the framing device for the whole narrative
I haven’t read the books or are familiar with them outside of what ziska has told me, so this is just based on eric bogosian’s performance in the first season, but I LOVE daniel he’s sooooo fucking funny and interesting and functions so well as an intelligent, probing, witty audience surrogate. I think people are generally more interested in lestat and louis’s relationship as the focus of the show, but personally I think that the framing and metatextuality and the questions daniel poses are crucial to reading the show, and the work the show is doing wrt daniel’s role as embedded critique of louis’s narrative is one of its most intriguing aspects. to me personally

I think people are arguing that Alec loves Magnus more than how Magnus loves Alec because the fanworks usually focus more on Alec crushing on Magnus. And I think the fandom does that because the fanpeople tend to prefer Magnus over Alec so they prefer the Alec pining trope. I say that because I personally prefer Alec over Magnus and that’s the reason why I prefer the pining Magnus fics. But that’s just my theory.
It’s an interesting theory. It’s possible. People often tend to create their opinions on other characters based on their favourites. I approve.
I think there are a lot of others reasons too though. And one of the biggest reasons is the difference in their love languages.
1. Alec is very vocal about his love. Has been since day 1. He was the one who asked Magnus out. Alec was the one who started the discussion on marriage in born to endless night. He’s the one who proposed. Most of his iconic lines—he has announced it to the world.
“I don’t want the world. I want you.” - COHF
“Stop telling me to let you go. I will never listen. I want to be with you. I never wanted anything more in my life. If you fall, I want to fall with you.” - TRSOM
“You’re my heart Magnus Bane. Stay unbroken for me.”- TLBOTW
“Alec Lightwood loved one man so much he changed the world for him.”- QOAAD
All of these lines—he has explicitly said to Magnus.
While all the super romantic shit Magnus has said were more of his internal thoughts.
“Someone, long ago, had told Magnus that human beings could never love the way immortals loved; their souls didn’t have the strength for it. That person had never met Alec Lightwood, nor anyone like him, Magnus thought, and their lives must have been the poorer for it”- TLBOTW
“Some might have called it the presence of God. Magnus just thought of it as Alexander Gideon Lightwood.”- QOAAD
“If Jace was gold, catching the light and the attention, Alec was silver…….And silver, though few people knew it, was a rarer metal than gold.”- TBC
The point is that Alec is more vocally expressive than Magnus. Even Alec wasn’t very sure of Magnus’s love in TMI—which is where his insecurities came from, leading to the breakup.
2. TSC is about shadowhunters. There’s not much about warlock history or their everyday politics, right? So Alec’s actions/fight for their love has always been very visible. (Like kissing in the accord halls, changing the law.) So we have been able to see everything that Alec has done/sacrificed/risked for Magnus. The same can’t be said for Magnus—not because Magnus hasn’t faced backlash due to their relationship, but because what happens in the warlock/downworld is not given enough importance in the books/or even the show for that matter. We only see glimpses of that in the eldest curses books. Like that scene where Magnus was not invited to a party just because he was dating a shadowhunter.
So it might seem like Magnus hasn’t sacrificed/risked much, which isn’t true at all. This is a 400 year old man who has went through so much shit and was still willing to take a chance on a shadowhunter, who was literally the son of a family who was into genocide of his race. I don’t think people give enough credit to Magnus for that which is a goddamn crime y’all.

There are four categories of Shran content on Tumblr.
1. Aesthetic: Mostly Pictures or Gifs, the normal stuff
2. Fangirl Stuff: Just posts where Fangirls/ fanboys/fanpeople rant about how awesome he is. I think those are the rarest ones.
3. Jeffrey Combs appreciation Posts: Shran content along with Weyoun and Brunt, often also other characters.
And last but not least
4. Shrancher posts: Do I really have to elaborate?

A few moments later, she hears a familiar voice.
“Marie,” Jordan must have had this same idea, and she perks up at the sight of them. Their inky black hair hanging sexily in their eyes like an emo bad boy, their stupid new costume perfectly hugging their godlike body, their veiny, lovely hand nervously rubbing the back of their neck when it should be rubbing her woefully neglected butt.
She’s wanted to see them all day, all week, all month really. And now that she is, she has no idea what to say, what she’s even allowed to say. She starts as small as possible, thinking it’s better than saying nothing at all.
“Hey,” she finally manages.
“Hey. How’s everything going?”
“It’s… going.”
“How’s London?” they ask, something pinching and spiteful in their tone.
“I wouldn’t know, haven’t left the studio. How’s the movie?”
“Poorly written.”
She lets out a weird and nervous almost laugh, “If anyone can elevate it, you can, right?”
They don’t smile, they just keep looking at her with those sad, beautiful eyes, those “please kiss me, I’m suffering” eyes. But she can’t be caught on someone’s cell phone camera or some leaked security video making out with her “ex” no matter how badly she wants to. The silence stretches between them like a desolate country road, keeping them stranded from each other even though they’re nearly close enough to shake hands.
“You’re hiding something, I know you are,” they finally snap.
“We can’t talk about this now.”
“I know, I know” Jordan says, regaining their composure almost as soon as they lost it. “But can we talk about something? Anything?” they step closer and lower their voice so much that Marie just barely makes it out. “I miss you.”
She darts her eyes across the space, making sure no one is in earshot even though she knows damn well no one is. There’s a small group of cosplayers passing at the end of the hallway, several feet away, but they’re too caught up in their own chatter to pay them much notice, in their peripheral vision Marie and Jordan probably look like cosplayers themselves.
“Marie–
“I have a meet and greet in ten minutes,” she says, cutting them off, losing her already paper-fragile nerve. And this is stupid, this is so fucking dumb, why did she even come? Why did she want so badly to see them only to act the same way she’s been acting? This is more than fear, she doesn’t know how to be normal anymore because she doesn’t even know what normal is. She swallows hard. “Good luck today Fortress.”
She turns and starts down the empty hallway, soon enough the panels will end and a small crowd of overstimulated fanpeople will pour out, and she wants to be far away by the time they do.
“You’re an asshole, you know that?” Jordan says to her back. She shouldn’t stop walking away, she shouldn’t.
She does.
Turning impulsively toward them, she scoffs “I’m an asshole? Really?”
“Yeah, a big one ‘Good luck today, Fortress?’ What's that supposed to mean?”
It means good luck. It also means I hate myself for hurting you, and I hate you for being here when I can’t touch you. but she can’t say that, not when she constantly feels like she’s being watched. This is like five years ago, when she didn’t know what to do with her feelings except twist them into something else and scream them out. Suddenly, because she’s not allowed to be anything else, she’s mad as hell at Jordan, she’s so mad she wants to push them, shove them against a wall, or onto her bed, she wants to give them a blowjob she’s so mad.
She strides close again, forgetting herself. Her heart is drumming way too fast, just as fast as Jordan’s. But her voice is steady, precise and just the right amount of dark when she speaks this time.
“It means you’re gonna need it.” She says with a little smirk. “I’ve heard you in interviews you know there are words besides literally, right?”
They only chuckle, happy to play this game if it keeps her from walking away. If the only way they can talk in public without raising suspicion is like this, then so be it. It’s practically how they used to flirt. “I’m sure you do, every time you speak to a reporter it’s like you fucked a thesaurus the night before.”
“Jeez that was so funny my eyes just rolled against their will.”
“Yeah? I thought that’s just how your face is.”
“Oh you want to talk about my face? Do you even know how to take a photo without looking like you’re holding in a sneeze?”
“Maybe I’m just allergic to your bullshit.”
“Maybe you’re just allergic to style, look at that costume you look like someone ordered Nightwing off of Wish.”
“Fuck you.”
“Fuck you!”
“Excuse me” says a new voice.
“What?!” they yell in unison.
“Um, can I have your autographs?” it’s a young girl of about 12. And Marie realizes now that a widening crowd is gathering into the hallway. The panels must have ended. Fuck.
They take turns signing the autographs, and send the girl on her way with tortured grins.

I'm a fandom old.
I just left this comment on a Reddit post. Thought I'd drop it here. Just to have extra access to it.
I've been around the block in fandom. There's always been holier-than-thou types, but they were... tamer.
I started on the peripheries of fandom in the late 90s, and then I was in a fandom that didn't have fanworks. I got involved, fully, properly, at 18 years old, in 2000, in the Due South fandom. I have the very distinct honour of being the reason a separate mailing list, "Due South After Dark", had to be created. I wrote a fic that involved either handcuffs or a blindfold. Some people were SO OFFENDED by this tiny bit of mild kink that it caused an uproar.
But it was kind of just pearl clutching. I wasn't called a monster or suicide baited or anything like that. In fact, a lot of the offended parties didn't even talk directly to me, just around me and about the fic itself.
And that's the flavour that sort of stuck with a lot of fandom drama for years. The shipping wars of the early 2000s were shockingly tame, and there was also a lot of--to use an antiquated term--wank about slash shippers; the first time I saw the "fetishisation" accusations dating back all the way to the early/mid 2000s.
I do remember that there was a small contingent of Harry/Hermione shippers who accused Hermione/Ron shippers of liking "abuse" because Hermione and Ron bickered (not unlike Han and Leia or Elizabeth and Darcy). One of the big things is that a lot of this was not actually targeted. It was people pontificating on their LiveJournals without calling out anyone by name. Not that there wasn't a lot of arguments In the Comments(tm) and whatnot.
The first time I ever saw the term "SJW" was actually in fandom, some years before I started seeing it in "mainstream" online discourse. It was in the late 2000s, and it was used by left-leaning fanpeople against other left-leaning fanpeople. Right or wrong, it was a term levied against a certain type of, and I'm not going to beat around the bush, middle-class white woman in her late 20s and older. To be clear: fandom, especially when involving middle-class white women, has long had problems with racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. But this specific type of fan, the "SJW" type, held to their convictions so hard they would drive people out of fandom. This is when things started to get targeted. When individual fans would get called out not for behaviour (eg, MsScribe, Victoria Bitter) but for what they made. For their fic. One young person who wrote a thoroughly misguided SPN AU (I don't remember if it was RPF or FPF--she wrote the characters as aid workers in maybe Haiti?) was driven out of fandom over that one fic; there was no atoning for it. There was no ability to learn why she shouldn't have written it. She was just a monster.
I can see these threads all converging and leading to, for instance, the Voltron: Legendary Defender shipping nonsense and the demonisation of one pairing over the other on moral grounds. I can see it coming from the Due South ladies who were offended by handcuffs and/or a blindfold, from the Harry/Hermione shippers saying that Hermione/Ron shippers were okay with abuse, from the specific callouts by white women towards people who wrote things unthinkingly and out of ignorance without having the opportunity to make amends for their grievous misdeeds in fic.
I can see how it leads to this thing, where we have people telling folks to kill themselves because they like a pairing with a 5-year age gap. Saying it's immoral to ship two characters because one of them is "autistic-coded" and therefore a child even though the character is in their 20s, it doesn't matter, that's pedophilia somehow (hey, Critical Role fans). Painting people as monsters because of a video game where the main characters commit murder and cannibalism and incest and it's not the first two things that are a problem.
The antis make everyone out to just be monsters, even the people who don't even like the taboo and dark fics, they just don't believe in censorship, harassment, suicide baiting, etc, over fucking fanfic. It's become "with us or against us". It's... terrifying. Especially because it's targeted against oftentimes vulnerable people who don't have, say, studios and publishers and tons of money to keep them safe. They go after, y'know, AstarionsGirl292 and not George R R fucking Martin. Well, I think they went after Tamsyn Muir? But she ain't GRRM, is she?
It's a helpless feeling, seeing fandom get to this point. But I can untangle it. And it sucks.
