“she affixes her own pin to her vest, and she notices her hands shaking as she does so. she smoothes out her shirt and then looks back up at her adventuring party. what’s left of it, anyway, a snide voice in the back of her mind reminds her, and she digs her nails into her palms, letting the spike of pain bring her back to the moment. “what’s this for?” oisin asks, studying it with the intensity that only a person who is still drunk can have. “it’s for our new party name,” kipperlilly explains. “the rat grinders.”” or; what remains of the high five heroes, the night before their junior year.

the rat grinders have taken over my brain and i'm not even sorry about it. i can't stop thinking about them actually. they are so fascinating to me and i am rotating them at top speed in my brain and that's how this fic happened.

Hey if you loved Adaine working at Basrar’s and the plot line of elves bothering her at work you should read One Job at a Time by Tangerine_Blast on Ao3 because they wrote a fic of that exact scenario back in January before the season even started and it was all I could think about while this was happening

mmmmmmm. MMMMMM. okay. there might be some recency bias in this, but in no particular order:

liededamp - as much as i meme it up myself i feel like i did manage to have some good character discussions in it and wrestle some real emotion within it as a crackfic, and i think it's resonated with some people a lot actually, which makes me very glad.

tried to touch you but you're cutthroat (stay to see it unfold) - obviously there was going to be a chloe(luka)-centric thing in this list because yes. i'm pretty satisfied with how the theming turned out in this one and my character work on chloe as well.

now this one sits here (whispers things to me) - also obviously there had to be an adrien piece there, and this is?? maybe my most popular one?? even though it's technically love square-focused. i spent like 20 mins trying to pick from the others and couldn't, and i am quite proud of that summary (and the rest of it, but the summary i think i did very effectively) and yes.

did you ever want it? (did you ever fight it?) - one-sided fabian pov fabriz fic. this one also really resonated with people who read it/seemed to leave an impression, and not just bc of the ship but a bunch of other things i put there, and i love fabian and it was so fun exploring the way i see his character and how he'd handle pining for his best friend, and i think i managed to pull off the theming around the five stages of grief reasonably well, so?? i'm happy with it.

saint, bastard, king - grisha fic where it's just. idk man something about the kaz/alina/nikolai (potential) dynamic makes the cogs in my brain turn. the way they're all leaders in their different ways and how they operate in different worlds but then they intersect and it's so??? fascinating to me??? but yeah i worked hard on this trying to figure out how to convey it and i think i managed to quite well??

ok yeah this was very difficult just because i do like?? a lot of my work?? like i always look at it and spot something to edit but overall i enjoy reading it and i'm happy with it and yes. i would've added circumscribe, eight-two-five (my kipps-centric l&co fic) as well bc it's the longest character-study/backstory/one-shot thing i've done and i'm very happy with it, but yes. oh look i did it anyway-

"Partner?” He extends his hand as if for a handshake. Kalina eyes it warily.

Slowly, she reaches out and puts her paw in Riz’s hand and they shake. “Partner,” she agrees softly, swallowing down the dread.

“I just don't want to see my son killing himself to get huge accolades for other people that call him The Ball.”

She doesn’t get it.

Which is weird, because his mom gets everything. She is the only person Riz trusts to put pins on his conspiracy board. She sees connection where others see coincidence; she gets confessions where others get pleasantries. She is intuitive but not hasty, confident but not conceited. She’s smart.

So it’s strange, for there to be a disconnect in her perception to what Riz considered a fact.

“The Ball is a good thing.”

Of all the mysteries in his mind, this was not one of them.

His friends love him, and he loves them, so he helps. It’s what his dad would do and what his mom still does, and he is lucky enough to have parents that can double as role models. What can he trust in if not that and his friends?

“I don’t like it. Your name is Riz, and your friends, whom I love, I just want to make sure that you're not being taken advantage of.”

She does love his friends; that’s another fact. Riz has to reconcile that love and disapproval can coexist, that unfair treatment can happen without intention.

But it is different now than it was at the beginning of the school year, right? He can’t deny that his friends are working hard, even if their methods aren’t always the ones he’d choose for them. The facts are, and the facts are what Riz needs to focus on, that all of them are somehow facing more than they ever have before, stressors stacked on top of each other until they can no longer see one another.

His mom doesn’t get it.

And Riz feels lonelier than he did at the beginning of their conversation.

thinking about the random throwaway comment murph made about how riz has been tutoring just because in my heart i think it’d be both true to character & very funny if riz was an absolutely horrendous tutor. you’re telling me the stressed out kid with 5 million extracurriculars is going to be fully mentally present for a tutoring session? no. he thinks he’s explaining something and to the person listening he truly sounds like a flat solace conspiracy theorist with how little sense he’s making. after a certain amount of time if the kid he’s tutoring doesn’t understand riz just redirects them to adaine because she sells test answers. he’s responsible for three different rage outbursts and he doesn’t know because the second the session is over he’s already out the door for like. mathletes or whatever.

the world is my oyster and baby i started prying the shell of this fic open before this week's episode even started! i have literally been rotating this concept in my head for weeks and then after the events of episode 15 i wrote this fic in 48 hours because i am so normal about the rat grinders (lie). i don't care if brennan has decided they're ontologically evil and murderers the rat grinders ARE my special little guys and that's that on that <3

here's the thing. if baron didn't immediately jump to adaine after fabian, i would be crafting intricate angst fics in my head. but because they did, i am instead thinking of adaine and fabian bonding over their mutual possessions while dunking on baron.

Fresh off my first watching of Sophomore Year, I was desperate for more Nightmare Forest-esque content for my beloved bad kids. Thankfully, I immediately stumbled upon @gilears fic Over and Through! I absolutely adored this fic, bingereading it in one go, and knew I needed to show my love and feelings somehow!!
