Recently I found out about nitrogen narcosis, a phenomenon where inert gasses in breathing tanks become narcotic to divers due to the effect of the pressure on the human body (the greater the pressure the more intense the narcotic effect).
So anyway what if there was a deep water gas extracted from earthen vents down in the crushing depths by water-dwelling peoples, sealed within jars the deep water gas is then brought to the surface for use as either a medicine or as a weapon used to incapacitate.

Fantasy Medicine
Something that occurred to me recently was about how satisfied i felt with how a drug for a fantasy-specific medical issue was handled, and it made me think about it a bit more to realise why
For an example, i will be comparing to contraception while I make my points, so here are some things to consider when delving into your fictional medicine
Most important first:
Side Effects
To consider the side effects a developed or developing drug may have, ask yourself first
What is the drug supposed to be treating? What symptoms are alleviated?
For a medicide to be considered worth developing and producing, the side effects cannot be worse than what is being treated
Many contraceptives exist for afab use, but none for amab, why is that?
This is because, for what it is treating, any amount of negative side effects are considered worse than not using any
The amab user would not be experiencing any pregnancy, afterall, so when compared to not taking a drug, it's not worth using
Headaches of contraception can include headaches, nausea, mood swings, and acne, among other things, so when compared to pregnancy, these are reasonable risks
When compared to nothing, as the amab partner would be experiencing, they are not reasonable risks
This is why attemps to produce contraception for amab people typically fall short because of the risk factor
Varieties
Does your medicine come in different forms? Pill, injection, gel, etc.
Medicine can affect people differently, meaning that different types of medicine can be produced to treat one thing
This one is a lot more dependant on what exactly your fictional disease or condition or whatever else is
The reason contraception can come in so many forms is simply because of the sheer amount of ways pregnancy can be prevented, but it usually comes down to stopping or otherwise disturbing the menstrual cycle
Their use and effectivity, however, varies from person to person
This links back to the side effects point, in that someone can experience some of the worse side effects on one type of contraception, but next to none on another
Are there subtle differences between the types of medicine developed to consider this? Is it a new medicine so there aren't many being developed? Is it not in high demand? Are there not enough people willing to or able to drug test? Does the administration method contribute to the side effects?
Why are or why aren't there different varieties of your medicine? Do they treat the symptoms slightly differently (e.g, Drug A treats symptoms x, y, and z but Drug B only treats symptoms x and z)
There also physical contraceptives, being condoms, femidoms, or caps
These are not medicines or drugs, but there are still different types because of how varied people are
They may be more effective or more comfortable with different types of people
May come back and add more points later!!

Elizabeth’s Journal on Alchemy
If you follow me an read all my posts (thank you!), then yesterday you got to read about taxes. I realize that probably wasn’t the most fun you’ve had on my blog so to make up for it, I bring to you Elizabeth Owen’s journal on Alchemy.
It’s a fantasy journal written from the perspective of a character in universe about her journey learning Alchemy. It’s got some fun world building, cute doodles and some of her personality popping through.
I highly recommend these kind of projects for world building and character development. But forget about writing for a moment. Here’s the journal up to date:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry I couldn’t figure out how to flip this next image inside of Tumblr, careful with your neck!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I stand with Elizabeth. Teas and coffees are the equivalent to magical potions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forgive my scary drawing skills at times. When throwing ink on paper with no prior sketch it’s essentially a coin toss on a spectrum.
Tumblr media
The above page is my favourite page aesthetically fuss far. I don’t know why, I think it’s the Jikuld that I love so much. I also can’t wait to talk about fossilized tree caves in my story at some point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know I said we weren’t going to talk about writing and just enjoy the journal today but... There’s something on this page that’s interesting.
A compliment I’ve received a couple of times regarding my writing is the way characters react to the world, the fact that they don’t act surprised or weirded out by fantasy aspects because... well, it’s their world.
However, it’s fun to remember that we don’t know everything about the world we live in. We’ve all heard at some point a random animal fact that’s shocked us. In this page we see that with Elizabeth, she didn’t know satyr had eggs, it shocks her, and she reacts to it. Knowing what things are common knowledge and what isn’t, is another fun world building exercise!
Tumblr media
Who and how was this figured out? If you really want to know, I googled “most muscular fantasy creature” with the intent of including them in the symptom relief of muscle pain in some way. Minotaur of course showed up and my first through was fur but this made more sense.
Within the universe how was this figured out? Valid question. I don’t know and I don’t think I need to.
Tumblr media
And this final page (for now) actually contains a tinsy of foreshadowing for later on in my main series. I’m not going to say what though.
If you enjoyed reading through this fun little project of mine and would like to read more about the character writing it or the world she’s in, I recently added Oppida Institute for Reformation to Book Funnel so you can download the first Act for free in several formats (it’s an ongoing series, I’ll be uploading each act as it’s completed).
You can find that story as well as my main book series, social and more, here!
I believe when this post comes out I’ll still be looking for ARC readers for my second book so check that out. And if you have any questions or would like a post on how I “research/force inspiration” for this journal, tell me and I’ll see what I can do!

Prompt 94
Danny has no clue what he’s just agreed to but Ellie seems happy about it, so it can’t be too bad. Ellie is honestly surprised but more than a little touched her template-dad gave her permission to let her new clone-union-totally-not-a-revolution use his lair as a home base. Now she just needs to help Klarion figure out how to make those portal-bracelets for each of them…

Spoiler thoughts on Medicine Girl
So I have been thinking a lot about Kihel's presence in the game lately. Thoughts under the cut.
My opinion is that we see suspiciously much of her for it to be just a random thing, throughout the story unfolding.
The first time we ever see her on screen, she's in Kostnice, in the Dhalmekian Republic, peddling medicines on the streets, and she approaches Jill. We see Jill stops and summarily refuses her with a sorry, and then Kihel immediately leaves, disappointed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second time we see her, she's on The Crystal Road, walking towards the Crystalline Dominion. She sees Joshua is hurting and quickly goes to his side to offer him a tonic. Joshua treats her warmly, thanking her and telling her that he'll be fine, and that she should save her medicines for those who truly need them. She replies: "Oh, if you're sure." and then leaves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third time we see her, she's in the Sanbrequois camp near the Crystalline Dominion, trying to sell her salves and potions to a random soldier, who shouts at her before we move to Dion's tent, so she is in the vicinity of where Dion and Joshua meet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 4th time we see her is when she saves Dion in Twinside, and takes him to the slums to patch him up. This is also the first time she isn't refused her healing, since Dion is KO lol.
(Not going to screenshot this since this scene is the longest)
She quickly brings him fresh water and they have a nice heartfelt moment before Dion leaves. He's very grateful for her help and she wants to see him again. When he exits her abode, a gust of wind ruffles his hair and he looks up at the moon, remarking how he owes Joshua his wings.
I think it's very interesting how she interacts with Jill, Joshua and Dion in particular, and how her interactions with each of them become more meaningful every time.
How is she such a proficient healer at such a young age? How does she find clean, drinkable water in the slums? How come she's seemingly so attracted to Dominants, that she's able to find them repeatedly?
I have a nagging feeling that she's tied to Leviathan, maybe even is Leviathan's Dominant who has yet to awaken, because of her connection to water and her healing prowess.
And I think the main characters she interacts with are important, if we are to see future content for the game. I believe Jill to a lesser extent, but in particular Joshua and Dion will be tied into it. Why them two? Because Kihel is in their vicinity twice, if we add her presence in the military camp.
This might be a huge reach, btw, and I could just be overthinking it, but it is very interesting to me to think about.
Edit: Well things just got a lot more interesting:

Started this little series with Hunter. He wants to actually earn some money for his first date with Willow, so he goes to work with Camila as a Vet tech/assistant. Its a little inspired by my own job as an tech myself. I just always found it awesome Camila is a vet and that theres so much potential for Hunter in that field, especially with his soft spot for Palismen. Follow me for the next few pages and concept art! Sorry if its a little rough, I had a huge break from drawing the past two years and Ive really been getting back into it. Hope yall enjoy, lots a vet tech jokes coming up in this.

Soooooo, I may have found some inconsistencies in my previous Medicine Seller fanart and decided it would be easier to just sketch the whole thing again because I’m that kind of person 😅😅😅

You know, Dragon-surgeons must be like really jacked(cw: medical)
Because how else could you suture dragon-sized wounds cmon some wounds must be deeper than your height?? Also the catgut sutures used for dragons must be quite thick to withstand the necessary tension, almost certainly multifilament and a strain in the surgeon's joints, and the needles!! And I don't want to think about setting bones - it must take some clever mechanical engineering to be able to apply appropriate force, or you'd have to be really, really buff. Not to mention, the dragon size spectrum is wide enough that there must be specialists in each weight class(if not breed) in the 21st century. At least they don't have as many physiological illnesses as others, so no acute need for dragon-physicians?
They're like veterinarians - they have to work with tougher skin and bodily power that can kill you(if they're careless enough, which they mostly aren't, thankfully) but they also have to talk to patients. Which is great, patients understanding that you're just trying to help and being able to tell you where and how it hurts, but then again, vets don't have to persuade the patients.
I wonder what dragon medicine of the 21st century would look like. Dragon IVs connected to huge tanks, injections using mechanical pumps, like wow that would be interesting.
