Side Quests
~ Mammal Check Edition
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: these are basic suggestions. Everyone is different, you may need more/different things included and that's okay.
I hereby introduce the 'mammal checks'. Enforced between friends or independently, they serve as a very basic way to stay in touch with our bodies, especially during times of stress.
These are some of the minimal checks, kept short so they are easy to remember, quick to complete and adaptable. The idea is to complete all 5 checks during a break between tasks.
Happy Questing!

Watch the Skies
Dear Adventurers and Travellers,
I am sure you're all aware of the dragon that has been circling above the village for some hours. Fear not! The Wizard of The Forest has advised us that it means no harm. The dragon is named Altheros and they have come from the far North in search of their kin.
Unfortunately, dragons have not been seen in this part of the world for hundreds of years so we must turn to those who have journeyed far and learnt much beyond our borders.
If anyone has any particular knowledge on the whereabouts of other dragons or is aware of ancient lore regarding these creatures of legend, please find us in the Village Hall to confer.
Any help is welcome, rewarded and appreciated, both by myself and our new friend Altheros.
Reward: 20 points
Your thanks,
Ranger Hànelín Half-Elven
This job is about mythology, ancient tales and lore of history and fantasy.
Take a moment to appreciate the incredible intricate storylines in your favourite games or films, reflect on your favourite figures in history and their deeds or even share details of worldbuilding and story crafting you have come across that have stuck with you over the years!
Happy Questing!
Thank you @thedutchgeekydom2 for providing our friendly dragon with a name!

Floral Friends
Dear Adventurers and travelers,
'Tis I, the Wizard.
I have recently spoken to the Spirits of the forest who are thankful for your efforts in cleaning up the area of "rubble and rabble" as the Old Oak put it.
Several of the older Spirits have noticed a decline in new growth around the place, as have I. Since you are becoming well acquainted with the woods, I ask you to consider lending a helping hand to our flowering friends.
There is a clearing in the forest (easily found if you ask the birds to show you the way) where you may plant native flowers or encourage the growth of other such flora. The trees offer their blessings and the grasses will sing your praises.
Also, there is a reward.
Reward: 25 points
My thanks,
Wizard of The Forest
This jobs involves planting! Or growth of any sort really- be it personal or floral.
The idea is that you try to take the time to look after something, whether that be a real plant, something virtual or yourself. Plenty of water, good food, kind words and sunshine go a long way!
*Beware the perils of invasive plants before setting out to complete this job*
You could even reach out to community gardens or reforestation projects locally if you want to get your hands in the soil with others.
Happy Questing!

Living Language
Dear Adventurers and Travelers,
Thank you for your continued support of the village and in particular, my beloved library. Contributions are continuous and I have included several new tomes entirely made from stories and tales people like you have given me. I appreciate all you have done to help me share the knowledge of the world with those willing to learn it.
As to this posting, I am engaged in something of a project. You see, I am currently interested in languages from around the world and am compiling works to be included in the library in an effort to diversify our knowledge.
I would like to invite anyone willing to share tales, songs, stories, poetry and vocabulary in any languages you may have come across or know yourself. I hope that with enough contributions, we will have a good starting point for expanding our library even more as a vital place of learning.
As always, I am happy to repay such efforts on your part with a reward.
Reward: 15 points
Thankfully yours,
Patynyx Parchment
Library Custodian and Historian
Hello again, Adventurers! This job involves sharing languages, be it your native tongue or anything you may be interested in. This can include real languages as well as fictional languages. Alternatively, you could choose to be even more creative and make your own to share!

Quest- Plan An Adventure
This quest is about what we like to do best! Horrible rhyming aside, planning future adventures is what this quest is all about.
Whether you choose to share past or future destinations, methods of planning or your personal tips and tricks- anything goes! I love to find new places to visit so feel free to suggest places I can add to my adventure map.
Apologies for repeating this disclaimer but unfortunately there are no rewards for quests- just a way to connect and share some of our awesome travels with others.
Happy Questing!

Quest- Resident's Request
This Quest has a twist! Instead of a world-building objective, I thought it may be interesting to open up a line of communication with the characters of Thornewich.
DMs and asks are open, so if you have a question for me or a specific villager/character then do get in touch (just be sure to address whoever you are asking!).
An unnecessary reminder that Quests do not offer rewards. They do however offer opportunities for getting to know others in the community and building yourself a cool fantasy world around this little town.
Happy Questing!

A Word Of Warning
Greetings Adventurer,
This listing on the Job Board is to ask for your urgent assistance and to caution you to danger close to home.
The village has recently received reports of attacks happening in the surrounding areas. We do not know who perpetrated these attacks but the Rangers have begun their investigation. In the meantime, travellers and adventurers are encouraged to exercise caution on the roads and to seek shelter here if they feel unsafe or otherwise need help.
I have already had an influx of patients in the last several days and require additional supplies. I am unable to leave the shop at present so I am relying on you to go and gather any plants that have healing properties that you may have come across.
I understand that this is a lot to ask and may place you at risk of the attackers but we are relying on your skills and experience to help us once again.
The risk you take and our gratitude are mirrored in the reward offered.
Reward: 50 points
Thank you and stay safe,
Healer Yena Palemoon
This job is urgent! To complete it, post a list or descriptions of any healing plants you know of and their uses. Alternatively, you may be lucky enough to have these plants growing in your area and could post a picture or a drawing!
Happy Questing!

Dream Home
Dear Adventurer,
First of all, I wish to thank you for your assistance in helping Horace and I find the perfect place for our wedding! It was simply beautiful and we appreciate your kind words also.
Now the time has come for us to look to the future, to expand our humble home. We've found a lovely cottage in the Village that we simply adore, however between Horace's hard work in the smithy and I having started teaching the children of the Village- we are struggling to find the time to gather inspiration for the decorating of our new home.
We'd be ever so grateful if you would share your ideas and stories of homes you have come across in your travels!
Of course there is a small reward for your help and once the house is looking tip-top, dinner is on us!
Reward: 10 points
Yours in thanks,
Tallohen & Horace Bramblemantle
A fun job for the forward-looking adventurer! I'm certainly not the only one who has dreamed about having a place to call their own and how this would look. Here is a chance to share your vision in any way you'd like- posting pictures in a mood board, sharing drawings or floorplans for existing homes- if you like it, Tallohen and Horace would love to see it!
Happy Questing!

Skills of Youth
Dear Rangers, Adventurers and Travellers,
The Ranger Corps is putting together a training camp for young prospective candidates. Here they will be able to gain the skills they will need to be effective in the Wild's and amongst their fellow citizens, as well as emphasising teamworking skills before they are assessed and assigned to their mentors.
Problem is, no one can agree on what exactly those early skills should be. I've been tasked with gathering information on what skills people value and use most often and in what situations these have come in handy.
These skills need not be Ranger specific and can be basic as to help build a foundation for these young'uns.
Contribution is appreciated and rewarded.
Reward: 15 points
My thanks.
Ranger Hànelín Half-Elven
This job involves a little recollection on past adventures and training. To help Hànelín, list some essential skills that have helped you in the course of your journey and share it with the tag #questingfarandwide
This way, if another reads your list and finds skills they lack or find interesting, they are able to conduct their own research into pursuing it further! This is skill sharing in the community, Ranger style 😅
Happy Questing!

Quest- Artifacts Through The Ages
This quest is really just a jaunt down memory lane. Whether it's an item or story passed down over generations, an interesting piece of family history or even a historical item that captures your imagination- these things bring history to life and often shape the way we live today.
As such, this quest is a reason to dig around the loft, have a chat with an elder family member or immerse yourself in some historical research if you wish!
As always, Quests do not offer rewards in points but do offer a little something in the way of exploration and discovery. This one is mainly a reason for me to haunt around my grandparents' house asking them questions about family heirlooms over tea. Consider this your afternoon-tea invitation.
Happy Questing!

Restless but not quite sure what you actually feel like doing, if anything at all?
No worries! Roll a D10 (or simply pick a number) and interpret the result however you wish! Whatever comes to mind- try something new, engage in something comforting, it's totally up to you.

Side Quests 2
Tumblr media
Extensive list of chores, limited brain capacity for remembering them? Yeah same.
Have a random selection of chores I forget to do on a (worryingly) regular basis. Grab that D10 or organise by priority when you have some free time and the momentum to tick off a task.
You're doing great!
