The reason why Dongeun left is because she never intended to live. The only thing that kept her during her adult life was her dream of revenge on Yeonjin. Now that it's done, she feels empty and no longer has a reason to live. I think she felt guilty towards Yeojeong because she used him, and she wanted to give him one last good memory before she left. Thankfully, Yeojeong's mother came to her rescue, and asked Dongeun to save Yeojeong. The reason why Dongeun is alive is because Yeojeong became her reason to live. That's my interpretation.
