!!SBG FASTPASS SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 74!!

Holy shit, Aiden and Ben were so unhinged in this chapter.

The whole flashback scene of Aiden threatening Alex was genuinely so offputting and not in the usual way either.

Especially the third shot, the way he's positioned and his expression is making alarm bells go off in my head. Something about it just makes him feel more phantom-like than ever before.

I loved the part where he called Taylor and Ashlyn, 'Tay and Ash'. I love his nicknames so much.

The scenes with Ben were kinda funny but only added to the fact that these two cousins are equally unhinged just in different ways.

Ben was so ready to destroy him then and there and Maverick knew it. I love Ben and Aiden so much.

Also, I DON'T TRUST THIS MF AT ALL. Like, I believe he doesn't like the facility and the government agents within it but I think he purposefully approached Ben first for a reason. By appealing to Ben's own experiences he's making himself seem more trustworthy. I have no doubt in my mind that he has his own goal in mind, like @b3achysurfur said in their analysis of the Crane cult/group/whatever

I don't think that the people who kidnapped the kids are necessarily lying to them. They're just genuinely clueless. I think the fungus is a part of it but not in the way they think? Maybe the fungus is what opens / weakens the rift between the two worlds? the same fungus could've been in the woods/building during ashlyns birth as well, which is why the phantom was there. However, i think the paper cranes do know about the monsters or, at the very least, they know about the other dimension. (Side note: I don't think Alex or Mr. Thomas are part of the paper cranes despite Mr. Thomas having a few of them on his desk, since the boss plans on "making him dissappear" later, and Mr. Thomas tells ashlyn that she is, in fact, sick.) They're just a shadier group within the Contamination Facility, yk? I don't think they're all bad

I also think that all the kids we see that are in comas are alive, but they're stuck in the phantom realm after ashlyn and the group go to savvanah, since Jasmine says that the rift was permanently closed afterward

Anyway (deadass forgot what I was talking about) when the kids meet up at the gas station and go back to the graveyard, I can only assume there weren't any roots and vines on the streets due to the reaction they all had when they saw them. My guess is that the constant back and forth between the two worlds is having an effect on the environment. It could also be that now that a few months have passed and the rift is closed, the phantom dimension isn't 100% connected to the real one like it used to be, and is able to grow vines, fungus, and those weird rock pillars without them being present in the real world.

I think what happens to the kids' injuries is similar to what happens to phantoms when they're around light. They can't actually die from their wounds like how phantoms can't die from lights, but it will still affect their separate bodies (real world and phantom) like how the light makes the phantoms lose their form (idk how to word that)

I have so much to say but I've already yapped enough, I'll probably look like an idiot but I spent too long on this to let it die in my drafts
