Desexualized & Asexual are 2 different things
Recently read a take that Isaac in Heartstopper is bad fat rep because "the only fat character was made asexual which is a negative stereotype" & I am BEGGING folks to understand that desexualized & asexual are 2 different things. Plus fat Aces exist & fatness is often used to invalidate asexuality.
We thought that Isaac was just OK for ace rep. We talked about our feelings at length on episode 32 & episode 98 of our podcast. All in all, we just didn't think that his character was anything new or groundbreaking, but with how often aces in real life hear "you're not asexual, you're just fat", it's such a shame that folks out there don't understand that fat aces have their own unique challenges and also deserve rep.
It feels like shockingly similar to when people get mad at Disabled Aces because "disabled people don't have sex" is a negative stereotype. Yes, disabled people are often DESEXUALIZED against their will, which is harmful, but that doesn't mean that some of them aren't ASEXUAL.
Aces come in every flavor, because we're real people. And real people deserve to see aspects of their experience reflected in media without someone else implying that their very existence is inherently harmful.

Manhunt
Content warning because this book has transphobia, TERFS, the apocalypse, death, and so much more
So I've been reading more for fun and I just finished Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin. And ooh boy it's a fantastic doozy.
There are these echoes of Margret Atwoods Oryx and Crake throughout the novel, Robbie wearing a Red Sox hat, Pigs at the Screw, and the question that T-day occurred on purpose. It acts as a queer re-imagining of Atwoods world or perhaps ideas in that way: a society confined by the illusion and pastiche of the simulacra. This is especially highlighted in the TERF society as they cannot imagine a world where there is no hierarchy of privilege.
I also enjoyed the characters. Robbie was my favorite surprisingly: his self-imposed isolation and poorer background struck a chord with me, and the line "Lord make me a man" is a haunting echo that replays in my head. The other characters are delightful as well and FAT REP!!! INDI IS FAT AND SHE DOESN'T LOSE THE WEIGHT! I have never been so happy for this even if it is a deeply dark novel.
Spoilers:
A few major character death hurt or hit me in some way.
Feather saying "I want my Daddy" before getting shot. They were trying to survive only to be fucking dehumanized, and unable to be saved because Ramona (a member of the TERF army) is too cowardly to do so.
Sophie despite being a terrible person still had this sting of pain. She falls from her own twisted ideals of family and love because she kept her man alive despite the fact that he's turned into a beast. I'm not saying I truly sympathize with her or like her, I detested her throughout the novel, but in this moment I was reminded of how desperate she was to try and create a family.
Fran dying destroyed me and I still haven't gotten over it. I cried terribly because she didn't deserve it at fucking all. Yet her death shows the true power of the existence of being queer: our deaths consolidate our identity and our remberence of our impacts on the world. It was beautiful that it ends on Beth laying next to her corpse before burial remembering that Fran was the one that helped her realize that she was trans. That their love was Sapphos ideal.
I'm telling you to please read this book. It's disgusting and very explicit but that's what makes it so fucking good.

Ship Wrecked (CBR14 #66)
Ship Wrecked (CBR14 #66)
I am unsure how to review this book. I loved it. I knew I was going to love it. I am enthralled with the choices Olivia Dade makes with her main characters throughout this three book series (this being the finale following Spoiler Alert and All the Feels). I want everyone to read it and have the same experience that I did. I’m aware that most likely not everyone will as I think there’s a certain…

the fucking hypocrisy that gl fans have tho, when geminifourth got announced to be in 23.5 everyone and their fcking mother was hating on them, tagging them to get out of the show and calling them ugly and shit like that, and now that there is gonna be a bl side pair everyone suddenly silent and like nothing happened, side eye.
I mean... I didn't see this unfurl so I won't comment much on it & of course no one deserves this kind of hate at all, but I'm gonna be honest... I can see where the root of it is coming. we've waited literal YEARS to get gl shows, and they're still like 1% of what bl shows are. especially since geminifourth went from unknown to huge in between the announcement of the show & its start of production, I understand milklove & gl fans who were worried they would steal their thunder when we all know pretty much ONLY male actors at gmmtv get any type of attention. the difference with the nawintinh side ship is HUGE imo tho. firstly they're not even the secondary ship, they're the third one after aylinluna so there's a lot less chance of stealing any thunder, and, as I've mentioned in my text posts on the topic, nawin being a queer plus size person getting a love storyline is literally REVOLUTIONARY. yes, the bar is low, but that's what us fat people have to beg for. you do not realize how much since nawin got his ep 3 storyline I've been thinking about him, I finally feel represented in a thai drama. so I understand people cheering this bl side ship more than the first one, and I think the situations are wildly different. however I don't think generalizing all gl fans as bullies like you did in your ask is right, I would've been happy with geminifourth as a side ship but I'm happier with juneview & euroford as side ships bc they're more pressing representation imo. the vocal minority of haters will always be the loudest, but thinking the ENTIRE 23.5 fandom bullied geminifourth & are hypocrites is a bit insane to me, as if bl fans aren't even more toxic (I would know, I've been in both fandoms lol...)

I just have to say, the belly fold, especially in panel 6, is just gorgeous. Reminds me of myself, and makes me feel amazing, like a girl mermaid might kiss me too. ❤️

I’m so happy that resonated! I’ve tried pretty consistently to have diverse body types and stuff. We never saw Leda or the Potato Witch’s bellies but they absolutely would have belly rolls.
But also, as an art student. Every. Single. Person. Gets belly rolls. I promise. I swear. Even stick thin naked models still have it. It is not a measure of beauty to have a flat stomach but even those who from some angles appear to have a flat stomach still contort and roll in ways that are hidden by media and advertisers. But every single person has them.
