The response to the poll was favorable, so here it is -- the application for my TYPE-MOON Body Horror Zine! Any TYPE-MOON property is welcome (FGO, Stay/Night, Tsukihime, etc) as are writers/artists of all experience levels. This is a non-commercial project, and is intended to be a pure celebration of body horror artists and writers; I want this to involve as little gatekeeping as possible. Collabs between artists and artists/writers are more than encouraged, as are getting your friends together and forming little thematic groups. I initially conceived of this as a bonding experience between the creatives I know, and I want to encourage other people to find common ground through the arts as well. Maybe even get to know new people and make some friends? That'd be awesome!
Because of the potentially graphic nature of this zine, participants must be 18+. The rest of the rules/information is on the linked form!
Feel free to contact me with any questions, either here or via the e-mail I've given on the application.
The deadline for filling out the application is September 5th, 2023. This is for my sanity.
Thank you all for your time, and have a great day!

Hey hey hey ~ Over the past months I've been working with the @gilgazine and I was lucky to contribute my take on Gil and his requirements for pets (aka. How to annoy my master in 5 minutes or less).
Pre-Orders are currently OPEN, so if you like Fate/ and Gil in particular, please check this project out 💕

Skate Wizards is another zine that feels like it should forever be a zine, never a book. A collaboration between Michael C. Hsiung and Loot the Body, it's about, well, skating, cool tunes, wizards and…uh…pipe weed that is totally medicinal. The back cover perhaps says it best, “Once the world was cool. Then it sucked for a really long time. How it has a chance to be cool again or suck forever. It’s all up to the Skate Wizards!”
The system is based on Maze Rats (which I am unfamiliar with) and Nate Treme’s In the Light of a Ghost Star (which I am). This boils down to a lite, three attribute D&D derivative with some unusual spells. Each skate wizard gets the same Permanent spells that they can cast at any time — Ramp, Sidewalk and Rail — which conjure the necessary skating surface. They can also cast one Rando spell per day, the effects of which are determined by rolling on a table and mixing descriptive words, which are then hashed out by the player and the GM. I just rolled “Dope Expanding Fire Tree.” Finally, a Skate Wizard has one Bootleg spell prepared from their collection of skate videos that allow them to perform a specific reality bending trick, like defying gravity for five minutes. There are skater specific magic items and if a Skate Wizard’s health drops to zero, they become a Poser and roll on a table of six lame-o fates they suffer in their new normie existence. A big heap of adventures and a table for generating skate trick names rounds out the package (though, online, you can also listen to the kickin’ soundtrack).
It’s a real treat to have so much of Michael’s wizard art in one place. I love his bold, clean linework and how he often flattens details and patterns so they look like textiles or stitching. And the illustrations are just bursting with humor and personality. Classic.

Writing Your First TTRPG
So you want to write your first TTRPG system.
A short thread.
First, you should know that you don't have to make your TTRPG from scratch.
You can always use Mork Borg or Fate or PbtA or Trophy or any other system that supports third party content.
Systems like Caltrop Core even come with tutorial material for how to write your game.
But let's say you don't want any guardrails. You want to make the whole thing yourself. Here's how to do that.
To start, zero in on what your system's about.
Don't worry about genre or style, just find something you think would be fun to tell stories about. Dinosaur bikers. Astronauts in a lover's tiff. Spiders selling hats. Anything.
Now that you've got your subject, the next step is crucial.
Dive right in.
I'm serious. Open up a document and start writing the part of the game that is most interesting to you.
It might be character Classes, or monsters, or even just a basic idea of how you want your game to handle some part of gameplay.
"Food is important! There's rules for hunting!" is a fine place to start.
From there, build outward.
If you've written "Gremlin Class: +1 to Sneak, +1 to Airship Repair", that tells you two things about how your system works.
It tells you that both sneaking and airships matter in your game, and that you should write rules for them.
When writing rules, here are some things not to worry about just yet:
-Are the rules realistic?
-Do the rules work?
Just get some mechanics down. Give people a way to interact with your game.
"Roll a d6. High is good and low is bad" is a fine place to start, but you can get weirder.
Do you want people to roll a lot of dice? Or use dice that get neglected?
Do you want to test something other than dice rolling, like playing cards or flicking a paper football?
Do you want players to have some degree of control over the dice? Can they spend a resource for rerolls, or to simply succeed?
You might end up finding that your dice system works a bit like another game, and this is completely fine. There are thousands of TTRPG systems that have elements that overlap with each other. Nobody has a patent on target numbers.
Once you've got some mechanics, take a look at how they interact with the other thing you built---the thing you care about. This will inspire you to design further.
Add new Classes, new monsters, new subsystems.
Keep designing until you feel like you've written down everything you want to, and then get some sleep.
Yes, really. Put the project down, go to bed, wake up the next day, and edit it.
Your game is going to look incoherent at first, and that's fine. The goal of this editing pass isn't to get it perfect. It's to get your game to the point where someone can read it and make a character.
Once your game is in that state, get some friends to build PCs. Play a session. See what breaks. Go back and adjust your game to fix the things that broke. Then play a bit more. See what else breaks.
If you wrote a really big system, this will all take longer, but eventually you'll find that your system isn't breaking all the time.
At this point, you can keep it for yourself and your friends, or you can distribute it.
Platforms like itchio are great for posting new TTRPGs. Depending on your skillset, you might illustrate your game and put it through layout, or you might just export it as a PDF and post it. Both approaches are fine.
If you decide you want to make your project into a commercial undertaking, you can go to kickstarter or gamefound, or print zines and sell them yourself. Or you can just sit back and enjoy the thing you've made.
--
Coda: This is absolutely not the only way to design TTRPGs, and I'm sure a lot of designers have completely different processes. If this approach isn't working for you, or if there's something you hate about it, go with your instinct and do things different.

Do you, or anyone actually, know where/when the '-bowl' sufix started being used in Fandom? Because I can't find any kind of origin, and surprisingly Fanlore doesn't have a article about it (as far as I checked maybe I didn't search well?). I just found and know that it's used for kinda old and relatively new fandoms, thanks to a two-year-old Reddit post.
For anyone who doesn't get/know about the '-bowl' sufix: is basically an All × One thing. For example, if you encounter 'Dekubowl' this means that Deku, the character, is shipped with everyone or that at least everyone else have a crush with Deku.
I can only think of the 'Super Bowl' (just as one comment in that Reddit post suggest) for its origin, but when we talk about Fandom culture we never know. It could have originated from anything no-related to the Super Bowl, LOL.
--
Ooh, interesting. I've never heard of this in my life, and I have no idea what a -bowl suffix is supposed to mean, even if I guess it has to do with the super bowl.
It's not surprising Fanlore doesn't have this if it's coming from BNHA or somewhere similar. Fanlore is fantastic on the history of Western "Media Fandom", zines, K/S, etc. It's much weaker in areas that OTW early adopters haven't spent as much time in.
You should write the -bowl article yourself!
--
I went into AO3's tag search and looked for 'bowl'. I found 1311 tags, 90 of them canonicals.
I'm seeing a ton of references to the Super Bowl, dust bowl AUs, pet play with pet food bowls, Dream in the fishbowl, unending uses like "I'm crying into my bowl of cereal as I write this", "bowl of honey nut feelios", "bowl of pornflakes", "me shaking the food bowl of sbi wilbur-centric angst: come get y'all's juice", etc., and plenty of references to YOI katusdon bowls. Lots of fandoms and episodes have 'bowl' in their titles.
Zeroing in on more related things, I'm seeing BNHA over and over and not much else...
EXCEPT!
Fruit bowls!
I see scattered references to "let's add him into that whole fruit bowl" and "the whole fruit bowl is here" and so on. Some of them are crack fic where everyone is a banana, but a lot of them seem to be a metaphor for "everything together".
Okay, I just spent far too much time trying to categorize tags. Out of the 'bowl' ones, about a third appear to be this kind of sense (counting by number of tags, not number of works).
Game of Thrones has a bunch, but they refer (as far as I know) to which characters will hypothetically kill each other and emerge victorious, not to group shipping.
Some tags I found, like 'edelbowl' sounded more like a group ship than an X/everyone. I also found a scattering of tags that were like 'all of them in a bowl together', which is probably related.
But mainly, what I found is that this is from BNHA and it's recent.
Tumblr media
The other fandoms where I found it were:
Demon Slayer, Dr. STONE, Naruto, South Park, Fire Emblem, Genshin, HP, Lego Ninjago, My Next Life as a Villainess, She-Ra, Teen Wolf, Tower of God, VLD, A3! (Video Game), Assassination Classroom, Avatar, Batman, Black Clover - Tabata Yuki, Bleach, Blue Lock (Manga), BTS, Bungou Stray Dogs , Dangan Ronpa, Danny Phantom, Detective Conan, Dragon Age, Durarara!!, Fate/Grand Order, How to Train Your Dragon, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Kaiju No. 8 (Manga), LEGO Monkie Kid, Osomatsu-san, Ouran High School Host Club, Percy Jackson, SK8 the Infinity, Soul Eater, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, Tokyo Revengers, Virtual Streamer Animated Characters, Warcraft, Xenoblade Chronicles 2
That's giving me a very distinctive picture of a fan who's probably in their 20s or 30s, mostly like anime and some video games, and is not the type that edits Fanlore.
There's nothing actually old here: it's recent anime and stuff that is still a megafandom, like Naruto.
I'm seeing a scattering of 'dekubowl' from 2017 and then other character tags taking off in like 2019. This is definitely a recent trend in terminology, at least on AO3.

EOY Writing Wrap-up
I saw this post and loved the questions, so I'm going to answer them below! Looking forward to another year of writing and fandom!
favorite fic you wrote this year: For sure Unforgiven, it was my baby.
least favorite fic you wrote this year: Love Between Goddess and Demon ended up being kind of disappointing for me. It didn't develop how I wanted it to and I'll admit I abandoned it since it didn't have any readers.
favorite line/scene you wrote this year: Probably the first chapter of Unforgiven, I couldn't wait to get Leon and Jake together again ha ha.
total number of words you wrote this year: 131,491 published!
most popular fic this year: By hits and kudos it was Unforgiven. My oneshot Smoking got the most notes on Tumblr.
least popular fic this year: It was Three To One, which surprised me honestly.
longest completed fic you wrote this year: Love Stuck was my longest completed fic at 23,307 words.
shortest completed fic you wrote this year: Sparring Partners was a oneshot with 1,796 words.
longest wip of the year: Between Goddess and Demon was my longest unfinished fic. I wrote almost 40k words before I put it on pause.
shortest wip of the year: 365 is still a work in progress and has only 18,964 words so far.
fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year: A toss between Resident Evil and LBFAD. I got to write some cool RE stuff and did a short story for a zine!
favorite character to write about this year: Gotta be my boy Leon Kennedy. He's just so easy to torture.
favorite writing song/artist/album of this year: I listened to a lot of Halsey while writing this year lol. I needed the angst.
a fic you didn’t expect to write: Smoking was definitely unexpected! I've never even liked One Piece and when I watched the live action I swore I wouldn't write for it. But then...
something you learned this year: To take my time. I've gotten a lot better at being okay at writing at my own pace instead of some imagined timeline.
fic(s) you completed this year: Altogether I wrote four completed fics!
fics you’ll continue next year: I'll be finishing The Fate That Binds and 365 in 2024. I'd also like to go back and try to finish The Wish since I didn't last year.
current number of wips: I'm actively working on four wips at the moment, two the most seriously.
any new fics to start next year: Yes! I'm going to try to write the last of the Dark Heart series, and I miiiiiight try more One Piece. Maybe.
number of comments you haven’t read: Zero! I read them all and respond to pretty much all of them.
most memorable comment/review: I really liked reading the thirsty reblog tags on Smoking lol
events you participated in this year: I wrote a fic for the LBFAD Mini-Bang! It was so fun to meet some new people and see all the different ideas.
fics you wanted to write but didn’t: I had another Resident Evil fic I wanted to get done but never actually started. Maybe this is the year for it?
favorite fic you read this year: River of Stardust by @yoshi-09
favorite fandom to read fic from this year: I still like reading DMC fic! Also got to read some good Reylo fic and RE fic!

Life is simply unfair, don't you think? Not everyone can obtain something as world-altering as a Zero Escape zine. Will you be one of them, when the time to preorder comes?
The fate of the world rests on your decision. What will you decide?

My full piece for the @fatezerozine!
There is currently a leftover sale finishing on Sept 30 so last chance if you haven't picked up a copy yet! ⚔🛍 https://fatezerozine.bigcartel.com I had to draw the Emiya team because I love them all, although I liked Ilya more in F/Z but not so much in F/SN because she kinda crazy. I personally would like to see more happy slice-of-life content with them because those magazine promo pics of Artoria and Iri are such a tease ;_; Also Kiritsugu and Ilya should have some more happy family bonding moments ;v;

Hello! Here’s a little intro and FAQ for the Zine
Who’s in charge of this zine? Nice to meet you, I’m Jen and this is my first time organizing a zine. However, I’ll make sure to keep everyone updated on the zine and be transparent with everyone. As for what sparked this zine: I’m thirsty for FGO men and I’m spiteful towards Type-Moon for not having summer servants.
What is the theme of this zine: The men of Fate/Grand Order in summer wear! The outfits can range from Merlin’s Las Vegas attire to Leonidas’ armor
What about other fate series? Sure as long as it’s a male servant such as Longinus from Requiem. No fan made Pseudo-Servants this time please
What about characters like Mordred or Astolfo? Since Mordred already has a summer version they will not be eligible for this zine. Same goes for Astolfo and D’Eon since they do not identify as male to my knowledge
Is this zine digital or physical: Digital, I’ll be putting it together using InDesign
Is the zine for profit? Nope, it’ll be completely free so if you want to show your appreciation you can check out a contributor’s Tumblr and donate to their ko-fi,patreon, etc
What will the contributors gain? Appreciation and gratitude as there will be no profit gained from the making of this zine
Any specific requirements for contributors? Please be a Fate fan! Additionally, it’s for the best if all participants are 18+ and are prepared to complete a submission
Any requirements for the submission? All submissions should be visual artwork in JPEG form. Additionally for the best result, canvases should be about 1650 x 2500. Traditional art is okay but please be able to scan the artwork in good quality.
What’s not allowed in this zine? No dark subjects like rape, pedophilia, etc. Nothing NSFW either, you can be as risque as a firefighter calendar. Also no ships will be allowed unless they are of Servant X Viewer. So if you want to draw Guda then please substitute with a faceless figure like this
Tumblr media
or draw it POV style like this
Tumblr media
Contact information? You can message me on Tumblr or email me at [email protected]
Do contributors get to choose who they want to draw? For the most part yes, though it would be nice if the same character gets drawn 3 times max. IT’s first come first served so please be prepared to draw another character if 3 other people are already submitting Cu. EX) Cu Alter, Proto Cu, FSN Cu will count as different characters but 4 artists can not submit art of FSN Cu
How many contributors will be chosen? Since we don’t have to print anything we won’t be rejecting any submissions
What do we once we finish our submission? Please email it to me and confirm your submission on the signup sheet
What’s the zine’s schedule? It is listed in the sidebar
When is the deadline for applications? August 18th, though if you’re confident that you can submit something in time then dm me and we can talk
Where can you apply?
