Dp x Dc wherein learning magic is similar to learning how to play music. 

So basically, the creation of a summoning spell is like a full composition/song made of smaller components or ‘notes’ for things like gravity shifting, and geolocation, and transportation etc. which is why Magic can be taught and spells can be man-made. 

Danny, however, is the equivalent of having Perfect Pitch. He can compose entire songs of spells without really thinking about it due to his royal titles (ambassador/king/high prince) but doesn’t really know how to be specific which lands him in some trouble with Clockwork. His portals are coming along a lot better with the help of Wulf but its critical that Danny learns how to control the range of his magic *something something, for the timestream something* *blah blah according to the will of the ancients blah blah*. 

So put on the course to learn Magic, Danny decides to hunt down the House of Mystery and study up by himself. He’s doing community college online, what could a little bit of Magic self study really do to his schedule? This place has literally every magic resource he could need! 

Turns out he has a roommate in the House of Mystery- John Constantine does not take well to the fact that half of the spells Danny is creating are causing him issues with the JL. Random shit appearing, random shit disappearing, portals everywhere and don’t get him started on the fucking ICE present on every bloody thing the magic reaches. Not to mention there is no reason a normal human kid should be able to have this much power behind his spells. 

John attempts to teach Danny the basics like a little kid gets stickers placed on the keys of a piano. The problem is Danny has the ability to compose entire scores of Magic all on his own, and absolutely abhors the training wheels John is putting on him. 

Danny: You’re patronizing me! 

John: You deserve to be patronized. 

Just like, Danny learning Magic in various ways that you might teach kids to play musical instruments from the various Magic users in the JLD. Causing chaos along the way, found family, the whole nine. Stickers on the instruments for notes, taking away guitar strings that are ‘more advanced’ and replaying Twinkle, Twinkle little star over and over again. 

Danny can play the Magic equivalent of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake but cannot play Chopsticks.

He took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose even as Dan cackled while opening the door more to let them inside. “Alright, what’s your name, kids?”

#33. “Don’t do that… let me see you”

You heard a loud thud against your front door and then you heard the door bell ring.

You immediately sat up from your bed, quickly putting on your robe and grabbing your gun. You cautiously walked down the stairs of your home, then to the front door. You looked through the peep hole but didn’t see anyone. So you slowly opened the door.

There leaning against the door frame, barely propping herself up and covered in blood, was Cipher. Your breath got stuck in your throat and you immediately put your gun down to help the woman.

“I—I’m sorry, I didn’t know where else to go…” Cipher grunted, some blood dribbling from her mouth as she spoke.

You nodded and quickly reached for the woman. Cipher’s body instinctively jolted and almost jumped back at your touch, but her mind calmed her body enough to remember that you were safe.

“I won’t hurt you, love. Please…” you gently pleaded.

Cipher let you take her into your arms, carrying her to the living room and onto one of your couches. She let out small groans and whimpers of pain as you two moved in tandem.

Cipher winced as she sat. Once she was sitting down, you got up to go grab some supplies. She looked around at your festive decorations around the place.

“Nice decorations…” she mumbled.

“Thanks. One sec, let me get some things…” you muttered, before leaving the room.

You came back with your first aid kit and you sat down in between Ciphers legs to tend to her. As you began to inspect the woman’s many injuries, she pulled away, not letting you see her many many deep cuts and jabs.

“Don’t do that… let me see you, love” you softly chided.

Cipher blushed lightly and nodded, letting you properly tend to her wounds.

“I’m sorry…” she mumbled before losing consciousness.

You started to panic now. She was losing blood fast, and now she was out like a light. You worked quickly to repair and stitch all her open wounds. After a while, and with a lot of bloody gauze around you, you wiped your forehead after having finished.

Cipher still lay there unconscious, and she would stay that way for a couple more hours. And your work wasn’t full proof, it was only a temporary solution.

When the blond did finally wake up, she was pretty intent on leaving, mumbling something about Toretto and his family.

You grabbed Cipher as she moved to the door, and she winced in pain.

“You can’t leave, you’re in no shape…”

Cipher turned to look at you. Her eyes were glossy and filled with a mixture of sadness and rage.

“I have too.”

“Why…?” You asked softly and vulnerably.

“I’m… I’m afraid I might hurt you… that they might break me by finding you…” she breathed out.

That was one of the most vulnerable things she’d ever said to you. In response, you kissed your wife lightly on the lips.

“Please be safe.”

“You know me, Baby… Always for you.” Cipher hummed, kissing you back with more depth and fervor.

She then pulled away and went to leave out the door, but not before saying one more thing,

“I love you, Baby.” She hummed.

“Hmmm, love you too” you hummed back.

You got it. Because when she took on that curse half a millennium ago, it was also a request she agreed to. For the sake of all of Fontaine and not just the sake of Focalors, but it's still all too similar. Even if she said yes to him because she actually wants it then, who's to say she'll always want it? Who's to say the decades, the centuries won't weigh heavier and heavier as they pass, just like before? Who's to say she won't have to ask him to make her mortal again? And that would be even more painful than simply letting her go when she's meant to. So instead he'll treasure the time she has, that she's more than earned, and he'll do everything he can for her to treasure it too.

Look, I know it's supposed to end badly. But I need to admit that in my head, they declared a mutual "fuck this shit" to the world and society. Packed all the stuff they could one late night and escaped to a remote open plain in the middle of some thick woods where they spent the rest of their lives healing and living freely in nature.

I've been having a lot of intense feelings about them as well. The tragical elements are so baked in to their story and setting, it's hard to imagine a happy ending for them. But every now and then I find myself thinking of scenarios and AUs where they both live and grow old together. For coping purposes, I suppose.

#for real though I've had several crying sessions over them during the past couple of weeks I'm not kidding #that's how you know you've perhaps gotten a little too emotionally invested in your characters #two entirely fictional dog men whose fates I have complete control over have reduced me to shambles #the unfortunate truth is that from a storytelling point the whole thing works better as a tragedy #the sadness makes the happy moments more significant and the happy moments feel bittersweet because of the sadness #for all intents and purposes they're classic star-crossed lovers #neither of them have done anything to justify such a wretched end though and I just want good things for them #I think I might have to come up with an alternate ending where Machete has the sense and chance to resign before it's too late #and move to Florence to be closer to Vasco #or maybe they both go back to Venice where they originally met that might be nice #maybe not realistic but it'd be nice #answered #dragonfoxgirl
