They are never far from her mind or heart. Father perhaps most of all.
It was his forgiveness she asked for whenever her blades — the fractured pieces of their family crest — were stained with their people's blood. With how frequent it had become, the gesture was almost ritualistic; the cleansing of the blades, before sitting on her knees for prayer, an admission of her sins and request for absolution after blemishing their family's honor once again.
Always had her ancestors strived to follow Karma's teachings, but it had been father who first taught her about them. Never inflict harm on anyone, regardless of circumstance. It had been in the little things (the spider has as much right to life as any of us, he had told her once, offering his palm for the creature to climb after she had tried to kill it; Lito simply led it outside, where it could weave its web in a different part of the woodwoven house), soft teaching that sought to ensure she would grow to respect all life. And the bigger ones, too, shaped like reprimands whenever Irelia and Ohn were at each other's throats for something utterly irrelevant and soon to be forgotten (violence is never the answer, regardless of what Ohn did; your anger may be valid, but hurting another never is, much less your own brother). She used to be so pressed about it whenever lashing out felt justified; and yet, stern or gentle, father had always tried to make her understand.
At twenty-four, she had lived exactly as many years without him as she had with father in her life, and not one in which he had not been deeply missed. Next year would tip the scales (a lump in her throat at the thought, vision blurred by the tears she does not attempt to hold back). Kneeling in front of his grave, there is no one to witness it, even as silent tears turn to quiet sobs.
Everyone expects the grief to end, but no understanding of the cycle of life and its ebb and flow would ever be enough to mend those wounds. Irelia wishes only the little girl she had been with her father around had grown to be someone he would be proud of. Someone other than who she was.

@eiiskonigin asked: She leaves no messages for her father, doing her best to avoid being even caught stepping foot inside the family home. She has, however, left a wrapped gift of caramels from a local sweets shop for Klein. And, as usual, Winter leaves no note with it.
Tumblr media
On days like today, Klein did his best to make sure each of the Schnee children knew that they were loved, no matter what. He wasn't their father; he couldn't make up for what Jacques had or had not done, but he could still make sure that they had some form of paternal love in their lives.
So when he finds the gift of caramels, left without any note or anything to indicate who it was from, he can't help the little smile on his face. He knows exactly who they were from, and he makes a mental note to send her a letter, thanking her for the gift, and inviting her out for a drink, so he can see her and thank her in person. Besides, it had been far too long since their last one, and he'd like to see her again, to let her know that he was still thinking about her, even though she no longer lived at home. She would always be his girl, too.

//actual happy father's day to clarence o'malley, salvatore's uncle, who entirely beat the compassion out of sal by the time he was 17. to this day, sal remembers him fondly and even uses the surname o'malley to honor him.

@sweetsolars asked:
From Rin ;; A small gift box on his study desk. She's not supposed to be in there, but surely he wouldn't be too upset, right? Inside the box was a nearly flawless rose quartz, shaped by magic, into a Sakura blossom. A small tag on the box signed 'To Papa'.
Happy Father’s Day, Tokiomi! || Accepting
“...Hm?”
There was a firm rule in place more for Rin’s safety than anything, particularly after that accident with one of his higher-level books. Few strides help him to close the distance between the doorway and his desk, a blessing of having long legs. Sensing nothing to be dangerous from the box, he carefully opens it and finds his gaze softening.
She’s improved in so short a time.
Tumblr media
“...Rin.”
His fingertips absentmindedly brush along the smooth surface and the remarkably refined edges, callused skin soothed by the cool material. On any other occasion, the head of the Tohsaka would give his daughter a scolding, but given the innocent sincerity behind this gift of hers, as well as the progress she’s shown--Tokiomi muses to himself that ‘granting her amnesty’ is the only appropriate course of action to take.
How happy will she be if I turn this into a brooch? It shouldn’t prove to be too difficult with our gemcrafting abilities.
Perhaps after a day out. It’s been some time since he spent a few hours with Aoi and Rin, has it not?

//anyway. happy father's day! the only muse i have here who has a good relationship with her father is rosa.
jack's father was horrifically physically abusive to him from a very young age, to an almost comical degree at times. (e.g. breaking jack's leg and then making him take himself to the hospital). also, jack's dad was a white nationalist too. regardless, he's no longer in jack's life, and jack doesn't know where he is now.
spencer's dad was similarly abusive and tried to kill him multiple times, culminating in spencer killing him before leaving home at 18. (and to be fair, his mom also falls under this, even if she didn't contribute directly to the most severe abuse.)
jerry hasn't spoken to either of his parents in well over 10 years and is perfectly happy doing so. if neither of his parents find him again, he'll be fine.
tony and his dad were pretty close, but his dad died when he was very young and tony never fully processed it. to this day, he idolizes his father quite a bit, contributing to his often very negative perception of himself for not *living up* to the man's legacy.
amelia never knew her father, and as far as she's concerned his lack of a presence in her life is a non-issue. he made his choice, and if he ever attempts to connect with her, she isn't going to accept.
and theeen
rosa and her dad have had their ups and downs, but for the most part they're very close and she calls him every weekend to tell him how she's doing. he took some time to adjust to her being trans, but overall he's ecstatic to spoil his daughter.

@gloryseized asked: "Happy Father's Day, Papa!" Marinette says, giving her father a big kiss on the cheek as she presents him with a complicated patisserie that she'd been working to get just right over the last several days.
Tumblr media
It was one of the rare days that Tom had decided to close up shop and just enjoy a day off. They didn't exactly have employees, which meant they had to do most things themselves. And that meant very few days off.
But today, he'd decided that he was going to take a little bit of time to relax, not fully remembering that today was anything special until Marinette appeared.
He lets out a little laugh when she tells him Happy Father's Day and kisses his cheek, bright smile on his face at her present. Tom knew that he had the best daughter in Paris, probably in the world, and he just loves her so much.
"Thank you, honey," he smiles, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "You're the best gift I ever could have received."

Strength thrives without prejudice wherever Noxus stands. It is a simple principle, well aligned with the idea one's standing was of their own making. No longer did the empire obsess over one's blood and a family name; it is your strength that counts, regardless of form. It's how you serve.
Which makes the day's celebration utterly pointless.
But Noxus is woven from many things, many peoples, and a nation so apt to assimilation carried all sorts of traditions, to greater or lesser degree. High on the roof, it's easy to see movement on the streets, more families than usual. Some children bring gifts; others unrestricted affection. She could lose count of how many hold a father's hand or receive hugs.
It's not the first father's day Katarina has with her father dead (supposedly; she is not taking anything for granted anymore). Now she knows he had been alive, but that doesn't change for all intents and purposes, General Du Couteau had been dead. It had made her even more irritable about the celebration, at the time — because it felt wrong he had simply died, so much still left between them never to be addressed.
At least this time he had the decency to die after hearing what she had to say.
The aches the happiness of others elicits are older, nonetheless. It's not about his death. It's about his life — about what he had been to her when they hadn't yet renounced each other as family. When she could've been one of those kids, so eager to please with a gift, so willing to offer her affection openly and without restraint.
So desperate to make him proud, because that seemed like the only way to receive anything at all from him in return.
It's selfish, Katarina supposes, to feel so resentful at other people's joy. It isn't about them, though. It is the very notion fathers should be honored and celebrated by virtue of being fathers. Marcus Du Couteau certainly hadn't earned any celebration from his eldest daughter.
Living or dead, she still hopes to have done even a fraction of the damage he inflicted upon his children — upon her. Wasn't it telling that his greatest gift to her had been the death sentence that set her free?
It's just a day like any other. Restless, she gets up, eager to move; where to, Katarina hasn't decided yet (but she is certain even on a day like this there must be plenty of people she could kill to keep herself occupied).

In a quiet corner of the Zariman, a boy gently sets down a small bundle of dragonlillies upon a shrine that had been set up there. It...wasn't a proper grave but it was all any of the survivors could do.
He remembered father loved the flora of Earth.
Tumblr media
A soft sigh as the Tenno lowered himself to the floor, sinking into his thoughts as he knelt.
He wondered if the man would be proud of who his son became. His father was a soldier himself and part of that child always wanted to follow in his footsteps, to keep the chaos of the system at bay, protect those who couldn't. He got his wish, he supposed.
He hoped his father would forgive him for what happened that day.
