last movie you watched: wolf on dvd 💀 so no awful english dub just a solid four hours of me pausing to text my stress levels. marwan is excellent, marwan breaks your heart, no surprises

currently craving: i'm in the middle of supper so feeling pretty satisfied. but am currently enjoying a typical lazy weeknight meal: joyous little many colored tomatoes, cucumber, yellowfin tuna, chickpeas, and kalamata olives with sunflower oil, red wine vinegar and unholy amounts of salt pepper and garlic

currently reading: destiny disrupted (a history of the world through islamic eyes) by tamim ansary. cannot recommend the book enough! i often falter getting through non-fiction unless there's a strong narrative voice, and this provides that in spades. to quote the author's introduction 'destiny disrupted is neither a textbook nor a scholarly thesis. it's more like what i'd tell you if we met in a coffeehouse and you said, what's all this about a parallel world history?'

joe is good with kids bc he’s just good with kids. fun guy, happy to hang out with teeny little people. they adore him and his bright smiles and so much love. they climb all over him and he play fights and pretends to fall and lose and ‘die’

nicky is good with kids one, because he just talks to them so seriously and dramatically like an adult that it feels like respect and two, because he is just constantly so out of context and mysterious that its just intriguing and fun for them. he doesn’t understand why they giggle at him so much but its okay.

we need to talk more about the fact that booker was the only one of the team who DIDN’T die in battle as his first death. he was hanged as a deserter, and had to play dead for THREE DAYS after, until the army moved on. 

A very different story to andy’s death being betrayed in battle, or joe and nicky killing each other during the crusades, or nile being killed in action in afghanistan. we don't know about quynh or lykon but we can presume

he’s also physically the oldest, and the only one who had built a family of his own before everything.

there's so many things that make him an Other compared to the rest of the team and it breaks my heart how it turned out
