I wanted to write something for the, dear god, ten?? how?? anyway, ten-year anniversary of CATWS, but despite rotating the idea in my mind off and on all weekend, I haven't been able to come up with anything that a) hasn't already been written before in a way that satisfied me enough that I am uninterested in/bored with attempting another take; or b) is unhinged enough. Because let's be real, I need an at least mildly unhinged starting concept, or a weird and lolzy "wouldn't it be funny if..." starting point, and nothing is coming to mind.
(also, preferably it would be something I could knock out in 10k or less.)
hmm. let's consult the fic ideas notes file.
Tumblr media
Sam/Bucky undercover on a cruise remains a great idea, but not really one I'd want to explore in an immediately post-CATWS context. Same for the Buckynat. Obviously the Yinsen lives AU has nothing to do with CATWS, nor does the Erik lives one. (that latter one is a prompt from an exchange that I've been meaning to write for literal years and keep putting off because I don't feel like researching rhinos lol)
there are a bunch of ideas for other fandoms and then:
Tumblr media
ah, Capwolf. someday! someday I'll write it! maybe! but that's more a CATFA idea. and let's be real, the OT4 Old Guard AU is more ambitious than I'm willing to commit to at this time. or possibly any time. the rest of these are more post-FATWS ideas. (also a surprise zagreus/thanatos pwp i never got around to writing)
Tumblr media
oh lol, i forgot about these. maybe now that dracula season is coming up again I'll actually write one of these! anyway, not catws relevant
Tumblr media
three of these are already in progress and are not related to CATWS (though the Sam/Nat fic is stalled because I'm not feeling it. It either needs more plot or less plot and I'm not excited about either option.) the rest are not related to CATWS. ugh.
I think it's obvious that FATWS was a great boon to my fic writing creativity, lol. but surely there's got to be SOMETHING i can write for CATWS!
the best I can think of is a funny take on Sam and Bucky actually secretly meeting up/hooking up during that time Sam was looking for him, but eeehhh. there's not enough THERE there.
anyway, if anyone has any unhinged/weird/funny post-CATWS fics they've always wanted, now is the time to throw those ideas at me to see if they stick, lol.

Hi I’m the anon! Thank you I’ll send the submission later with the fake email like you suggested! It’s taking me a bit since it’s a lot
(mod ali here just pasting their submission to their ask to keep everything tidy)
the sterek fandom has been racist For those that don’t know, sterek is the name of the ship between Stiles Stilinski and derek hale from the show Teen Wolf, which ran from 2011-2017. A sequel movie was announced last year and is scheduled to release soon (and with the announcement, brought back a dormant fandom). For context, the ship itself is controversial and problematic due to 99% of the scenes (and all of the ship fodder) between the characters taking place when Stiles is 15/16 and derek is 22/23 (shippers will argue that his age in the original draft of the script was listed as 19 (which is still an adult) but it’s irrelevant since his age was changed to 22/23 by the time the character was cast) making Stiles underage while derek is an adult. It’s made even more disturbing when you consider that one of derek’s traumas has to do with being molested by an adult when he was 15/16. There is always a lot of fandom discourse over underage/pedophilic ships but ultimately the problematic nature of the ship itself has little to do with the racism and misogyny of the fandom. To start with, the show itself has very few POC characters in the cast, 2 to be exact. The first is the main character Scott McCall (played by Tyler Posey who is half-Mexican and a MOC) and the other is Danny Mahealani (played by Keahu Kahuanui who is Hawaiian and a MOC). Danny is also the only gay character at the beginning of the series. From the start, Scott was sidelined by the fandom who, as always happens in fandom, ignored him in favor of zeroing in on the two white guys (which happens all the time like for example when FATWS came out early last year, Sam was often sidelined by fans in favor of Bucky, zemo (who is a villain), or even Steve (who wasn’t even in the show) when the show was about Sam’s journey). The sterek fandom would even try to argue that Scott wasn’t the main character of the show and say that they’re all the main character (ignoring that the show is about Scott and his story) or insisting that the show should have centered on the Stiles and derek instead.
The show also got accused of queerbait which isn’t inaccurate but if you watch the show itself, the baiting and subtext was actually between Stiles and Danny. Stiles repeatedly asks Danny if he finds him attractive and is grateful when Danny offers to sleep with him (and then disappointed when Danny reveals he’s joking). There is actual text and subtext between them but for some reason the fandom either ignores it, considers it a joke, or uses Stiles canon interaction to Danny as a form of “proof” that he is or will be attracted to derek
The relationship between Stiles and derek doesn’t have anything that suggest any romantic tension or subtext (and a lot of newer fans that watch the show talked about being confused by what made people ship it in the first place) and actually consists of Stiles being scared of derek and derek being annoyed by stiles. Their relationship slowly progresses to where by the end of the series they are somewhat friends but they each still have a lot more people they care about way more: one of them being Scott, who once again gets pushed aside and has his relationships with both characters diminished and ignored. there was also the added misogyny with characters playing canon love interests getting a lot of hate. in particular, Braeden and her actress Meagan Tandy got a lot of hate, facing both misogyny and racism. fans would at best hide their misogyny behind claims of wanting her to be a “badass independent woman” (as though a woman can’t be that and be in a relationship simultaneously) or at worst use blatant attacks her and her actress (including claiming that Meagan was “obsessed” with Tyler since she shipped Braeden and derek (something tyler said he shipped as well)). To top it all off, sterek fans have relentlessly harassed the actors and fans with their hate being targeted specifically towards Tyler Posey (who has publicly voiced his dislike for the ship) and their hate knows no boundaries with attacks even going as far as bringing up his past addiction issues, his looks, his sexuality (constantly trying to invalidate his sexuality when he came out as sexually fluid but at the same time insisting tyler h and Dylan, whove never suggested they were anything but straight, are secretly in a relationship), or even his mother (who had passed away from cancer a few years ago).
For example this account, that has page after page harassing Tyler over sterek and also page after page supporting Dylan O’Brien. but then being revealed as a conservative who supports trump and was one of the people rioting on January 6th and when someone brought up that Dylan would hate them, they claimed they hate Dylan too but support him constantly because they’re “curious” about his personal life.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Sterek fans either ignore people or are just like them. When teen wolf was called out and faced backlash for not paying Arden Cho (the only WOC in the main cast) the same amount as the other actresses in the movie, stereks either made it entirely about Dylan (who liked one tweet about the situation (the same tweet colton liked) and otherwise said nothing) or made it about her, Dylan, and tyler H “taking down” jeff and Tyler Posey. The irony here being that tyler h was a producer in the movie and had an active behind the scenes role. Making a Arden’s mistreatment and the gross racism she faced all about a white man or being gleeful that it’s a take down against Tyler Posey is latest in a long line of racist bullshit the sterek fandom has put out.
The sterek fandom and ship has in recent years been called out and hated on for the gross nature of the ship but fans should also keep in mind that it is also full of racism and misogyny and has been since the very beginning.

I’m trying not to relive my Star Wars trauma so I have made the executive decision not to watch New MCU until I actually feel like watching it (which I’m also doing for New Star Wars, which is why I’ve still not seen the last couple eps of OWK) and so far that is actually making me feel a lot better.  The only major exceptions have been FATWS (which I had to do for Horizon) and DSMOM (and that one was definitely a mistake).  this is a fancy way of saying I have made the decision not to go see Thor: Love and Thunder until I actually feel like watching it instead of seeing it because I feel like I have to, which I did with so much Star Wars and it made me miserable.  (especially because there is literally nothing in this film I am looking forward to, which kind of sucks because I actually love the Gorr arc in the comics, and I don’t want to go into the movie actively feeling resentful.)
I’m also attempting to be more laissez-faire about spoilers these days because one thing I figured out from getting back into the MCU last year after seven years away is that the things that people talk about are usually not the parts that I care about. sometimes they are! more often out of context it just doesn’t have that big of an effect on me. for example: I watched CACW last year for the first time. I don’t think I ever seriously blacklisted any of the key terms (I had “avengers” blacklisted for years because I had intended to see AoU but never did). I had literally no idea about the Zemo plot line in CACW because no one ever talked about it that I saw and I have followed MCU people continuously for years.  I watched WandaVision without ever having seen a single movie where Wanda or Vision ever showed up.
anyway. coming out of Star Wars my whole fannish policy these days is not to make myself unnecessarily miserable or stressed. I am here to have a good time. I already lived through having a bad time in Star Wars; I’m not doing that again. I have scars, thanks.

🌹!!! someday i'm going to watch fatws and let it take over my life so i understand your fic
<3333 Trust me, I have plenty of non-FATWS partly written fics I still need to finish someday too. :D Have a M*A*S*H TV snippet where sex creates temporary soulbonds and is mandatory for unit cohesion:
“I’m here as ordered,” Pierce said, tipping her an insolent little salute. “Here to be as professional and unchivalrous as any major could possibly desire.”
Margaret sighed. “Why do you have a bottle with you?”
“Maybe there’s a ship in it, and I plan to take you on a wild, romantic, rule-breaking rendezvous at sea.” He held it up to the light and squinted at it. “Or maybe it’s wine. What do you say we open it and find out?”
“I told you, this isn’t a date. This may be the opportunity of your dreams, Captain, but for me it’s a duty, plain and simple, and it’s one I plan to discharge as quickly and painlessly as possible. Without alcohol involved.” She unbuttoned her trousers. However many times she’d done this, some things didn’t change: the movements were easy enough, but the words were hard. “We’ll do manual stimulation. I’ll take longer than you will, so you’ll have to bring me to orgasm first. Then I’ll see to you, and the bonding will take and we’ll be done. That’s hardly deserving of a glass of wine.”
“You want me to just—” He made a gesture: lewd, she supposed, but senseless in any other context.
“Yes,” Margaret said crisply. “From the way you run your mouth, I assume you know the basics and can get going without my help.”
“Yeah, but …”
Why was he having trouble finishing his sentences? And why had they not gotten started already?
“I can’t just—” This time he didn’t even make a gesture, he just broke off. And then, without any showy, idiotic batting of his eyelashes, he said quietly, “I’ve never done anything like this before. Not the bonding, I mean, I’ve done that, but—having sex—touching,” he corrected hastily, “someone who doesn’t like me, doesn’t want me, someone who isn’t even having any fun—”
Oh. The realization hit her low in her stomach, for some reason. He was nervous. Of course he was—he was a draftee, practically a civilian, for God’s sake. But also—and she guessed she had to admit this, even if it was just to herself—she’d misread him. She’d thought he was a sleaze, a man who was just out for lascivious end results, someone who would just think it was his lucky day to get her hand inside his pants, whatever the reason. She hadn’t known it was anything else for him. That he needed the—camaraderie, the process.

I was just watching FATWS and my mom was talking about the date scene with Bucky and Istg her sense of humor is broken 😭.
Mom: Is there seriously people that don't like know the avengers?! (Her in context to the fact the girl, I can't remember her name, doesn't know that Bucky is 107 years old and has a metal arm)
Me: well everything they've seen of him, he had really long hair.
Mom: his face is the same tho, they have to have seen his face on the news.
Me: yeah but it was probably security footage.
...
Mom: *bursts out laughing hysterically*
Me: *frowns in what the fuck*

copy paste from discord under the cut because i’m sdklfkdlsfkl but it does have to do with e/.ndg/ame and fatws and just.
screeching
so still havent watched the newest episode BUT i realised what has been bugging tf outta me the most about the Premise of fatws sdklflsdkf
its steve giving sam the shield
after all the time spent of them talking about the responsibility that goes with the shield, the sacrifice of person to carry it, and sam repeatyedly making the point that steve is someone without the shield, it makes NO SENSE AT ALL that steve would turn around and go "yeah i know this means a loss of identity because of being Captain AmericaTM but here u go this won't be negative at all" and fucked off
and, tying into that, bucky knowing the costs too and being mad at sam for giving up the shield because sam didn't want to have all of that on him. like here he is, trying to just exist and make it through things after being gone for five years and the entire world changing during that period, he's in no shape to be cap when he has the choice not to be

In Loving Memory (Bucky Barnes imagine)
Tumblr media
Request: @missroro the reader is steve twin and she married to bucky after the blip, she had enough of the 'new captain america' thing shes really mad, so when walker and his friend start talking about joining forces she snap like she pull out a gun and pointing right at them, also sam ofc dont forget about sam. Sam trying to stop her while bucky "nah let her do her fun"
Words: 2021
Warning: !!TFATWS SPOILER!! without context - violence
A/N: wrote this today, it basically follows the events of ep3 of fatws but without context. I have a couple of exams this week so I won't be able to post until next saturday. Until then, enjoy
"You shouldn’t have gave him the shield"
Sam frowned, turning back to look at Bucky.
"I didn’t gave him the shield" He defended himself, making a point.
"Well, Steve definitely didn’t" Y/N ironically answered back.
He gave her a pointed stare. They had had this conversation countless times and Y/N never missed a chance to remind him of what she thought was a huge mistake.
"You are the reason this is happening, Sam. You chose to take on my brother’s legacy and threw it out the window"
The man didn’t reply and pursed his lips. He knew she didn’t mean any of her harsh words, she was angry and still mourning. If taking it out on him could make her feel better, he would let her.
"Y/N, stop" Bucky took a step toward his wife, clasping her hand in his metal one. He had hoped the physical contact would be enough to calm her down.
"He abandoned me, Sam" She continued, her voice filled with emotions. "He was gone and all I had left was memories. I chose this life for him, I fought with him, I believed in everything he represented. I looked up to him, to Captain America. And today, even those memories are gone, taken by the same government you and I were up against, mocked by clowns pretending to be heroes, all because you gave up"
The Falcon closed his eyes and dropped his head. She couldn’t see his point of view, or share his opinions when her judgment was clouded by so much pain. He wished she could understand the dilemma, the duality that represented the shield for him.
"Y/N, please, that’s enough" Bucky whispered next to her ear.
She turned her head toward him and as usual, his heart broke when he saw the torment in her eyes. She didn’t need to speak, she was an open book to him. They both had lost so much and yet were all each other had left. They were collateral damage, their own team against a world that wasn’t theirs anymore. She silently nodded, assuring him she was fine. Sam watched Bucky kissing her forehead and he furrowed his brow. He would never admit it but he was glad they had each other, because no one could carry that much pain alone without crumbling apart.
Before any of them could add anything, soldiers in blue and red erupted in the room, bursting through the door of the apartment where they were hiding in Latvia. Bucky instinctively grabbed Y/N and forced her body to move behind his. The two man stood in front of them, tall and proud, a smug smile on their lips.
"Alright, that’s it, your time is up" The man calling himself Captain America announced, the shield in one hand, the other pointing at the three avengers. "Tell me where Zemo is"
"We know you’re hiding him" His sidekick added.
"I’m ordering you to turn him over"
Sam eyed them up and down.
"Let’s be clear, the only thing you’re running here is your mouth" The Falcon firmly replied, crossing his arms.
"I gave you a chance to work with us" He mentioned.
" ‘For us’ is the correct way to put it, tough guy. And we said no." Y/N reminded him, her face showing how much she was annoyed.
"You’re obviously in over your head so I suggest you turn back and go" Sam argued.
"You really want this conversation to go there ?" The hero threatened.
Bucky straightened up when he felt Y/N tensing. He knew she was already on the verge of snapping. One wrong word from the man she hated and this could go down to hell.
"Should I put down the shield ?" He continued to challenge Sam. "Make it fair?"
The woman groaned and when John Walker dropped his weapon, without a second thought, she grabbed the nearest knife and threw it right at his face. The man had barely enough time to move back and his eyes rose in surprise when the blade stuck itself into the wall with force.
"Sorry, it slipped" She ironically explained, shrugging.
"You don’t want to play this game with me" He tried to intimidate her, tilting his head to the side.
She smiled, pleased he was giving her the opportunity to smack his face. Bucky clenched his fists when he saw her walking in front of Walker. Without tearing her eyes away from his, she seized her knife and pulled it out of the wall with a sharp movement.
"I think someone should teach you a lesson, Walker" She told him in a low tone.
"Are you offering ?" He challenged her.
"Don’t tempt me"
"You’re lucky you’re his sister" He grinned. "But don’t push it. This Captain America is not as lenient as the previous was"
Bucky swore under his breath. It was too late now. And just as Sam looked at him with concern, Y/N threw her fist in a curved punch at the soldier. He used his forearm to counter the blow, but she was faster and had far more experience. Using the momentum, her foot rose up and kicked him in the face. The man was thrown back, shaking his head in confusion.
"We should do something" Sam advised the former assassin.
"No. Let her have her fun" He crossed his arms, harboring a small smirk.
The soldier tried to hit her back, but even when he took the shield she blocked his attack. His sidekick soon joined the fight and distracted her for a second, just enough time for Walker to punch her. Immediately, she felt the taste of blood in her mouth, but no pain. She was passed that, far too pissed to feel anything.
Another blow on her chest send her to the ground and Hoskins hold her down while his friend was about to hit her with her brother’s shield. He raised it in the air, with every intention of beating her, but a strong metal hand stopped him in his movement. A very infuriated Bucky stood before him, his blue eyes darkening with anger. He firmly took the weapon, knocked Hoskins out with it and threw it across the room.
"If you wanted to make it fair, you shouldn’t have chosen to hit my wife" His tone was terrifying.
Walker didn’t seem as confident anymore. Bucky looked imposing, brute force ready to strike. His metal arm clenched in a fist and, without warning, it collided with the soldier’s jaw, sending him a few feet away. He strode to the man on the ground and grabbed him by the collar of his uniform
"This is all easy for you, isn’t it ?" Walker spoke with venom, staring at Bucky. "All that serum running through your veins"
With a swift movement, Y/N took the shield and launched it with power right on the soldier’s chest. The blow was so violent his body crashed into a door before landing on the floor. She was furious by his statement and he could see it with every step she made toward him. She grabbed the gun attached to her thigh and pointed it at his face.
"Lesson number one: learn when to shut up. Especially when you don't know what you're talking about" She was fuming but had not intention on killing the man, despite the sheer desire to do so.
She didn’t realize Sam was next to her until she saw his hand lowering her gun.
"This isn’t what Steve would want." He calmly expressed. "Remember, there’s always another way"
Her lips quivered and she closed her eyes, remembering how many times her brother had told her that. She let him take the weapon and looked up at him. The conviction and kindness in his stare were enough. He didn’t have to say anything. Every words she needed to hear, he spoke them in silence.
She turned back to Bucky and he cupped her face, inspecting the bruise on her skin. He seemed ready to go back and beat the man down. Y/N softly smiled and clasped her hands around his wrists. He stroke her cheek and pulled her toward him before carefully kissing her lips.
"Good ?" He asked in a soft voice he only used with her.
"Good"
It was something between them, a single word they spoke every time they fought. Wherever they were, whomever they were up against, if one of them asked, the other had to answer. It was their intimate way to always know they were alright.
Later that day, Sam and Bucky had decided to go talk to the leader of the Flag Smasher, Karli Morgenthau, while Y/N had been charged to follow Walker and Hoskins. As soon as she had seen they were going after the young super soldier, she had warned her friends about the danger. She knew enough about the new Captain to guess he had no intention on arresting Karli. He wanted to make justice himself. She pitied his sidekick. He seemed like a decent man with good ideas struggling to find virtue on the wrong side of the battle. He was Walker’s collateral damage.
She wondered what Steve would think of all that if he could see them fighting both super soldiers and Captain America. He never cared for the star and stripes, never used his shield to harm. His heart was with the people he defended. Even when it had been against Tony, he pursued what he believed was best. Was that what Walker was trying to do ? She couldn’t know. But she was sure of one thing, the man had nothing in common with Steve. Pride, ego and selfishness were never traits anyone would have used to describe her brother. She couldn’t bear for him to be replaced, especially to a man that didn’t share his morals or any of his opinions. The shield he was carrying wasn’t just a weapon, it was her brother’s symbol of hope, a symbol he had fought so hard to forge. The man made the uniform, not the other way around. That’s what Walker didn’t get. Up until that point, people had not been following Captain America, they had been following Steve Rogers.
Standing in that public square, she didn’t realize she was crying until she felt Bucky entwined his fingers with hers. She couldn’t avert her eyes from the horrific scenery. Powerlessly, she watched a man she didn’t know being executed. His opponent was merciless, striking with determination and rage, using the only piece of memory she had left of her brother to bring terror and death. Frozen on the spot in the middle of the crowd, she could see the fear in all those strangers eyes and it felt like grief coming in waves, a shard in her guts that would never leave. It felt like this particular moment was choking the breath out of her body, short circuiting her mind. What was whole once completely shattered and she couldn’t find the strength to be angry anymore. All her brother had built had fallen apart in the split of a second and all the world had left was a bloodied image of his symbol of hope. A symbol that was no more.
“Sam...” She called him, almost like a scared child.
“I know...”
Both men looked worried. Y/N felt Bucky’s hand trembling and she squeezed him harder. She could easily guess how he felt. Steve had saved both of them, he had gave them a purpose, had allowed the former assassin to be more than the weapon Hydra had made of him. Pieces by pieces, he had brought their family back together. And as they both stood there, witnessing the horrifying end of his legacy, Bucky realized everything his bestfriend had fought for was turning into dust.
"I’m sorry" Y/N whispered to Sam. "But there’s no other way now"
Her husband dropped his head, trying to regain a sense of control over his emotions. Wordlessly agreeing with her, he turned to their friend.
“He has to be stopped”

******************************
You grew up with Sharon, the two of you were best friends from birth it seemed. Honestly, Peggy raised you more than your own parents did. When Aunt Peggy got Sharon her first thigh holster, she got you one too. You enlisted together, moved up the ranks together, everything. So, it was of no shock to anyone that after the fall of SHIELD, you both moved together into the CIA’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
You were inside the hotel with Sharon, Steve and Sam when the bombing on the UN took place. The look of unbridled fear that fell over Steve’s face as they announced Barnes as the primary suspect was heart wrenching. You weren’t able to watch it for long because your phone was already ringing off the hook.
“Look, you need to get me more information, and now.” You gritted into your phone speaker before quickly hanging up the phone and turning to a crestfallen Steve who was still watching the news casting. Sharon ended her phone call and turned to you.
“We have to go to work.” A few short hours on a jet later, you and Sharon were coordinating the operation. Close by, Steve and Sam were awaiting new information. Steve had this insane plan to find Barnes before the whole rest of the world did. Like that’s going to happen, it took the world 70 years to find Barnes. Of course, Steve and Sam are going to find him in about half that time.
You followed the blonde woman into a busy coffee shop and up to the counter. She slid a manila folder over to a well disguised Captain America. “Tips have been pouring in since that footage went public. Everyone thinks the Winter Soldier goes to their gym. Most of it’s just noise, except this.” Sharon was talking quietly, trying to not draw attention to the fact that she was committing a serious offense.
“We have to give the briefing, like now Shar, so we have to go.” The two of you pushed off the counter and you turned quickly to say one last thing. “And you better hurry. They’ve given the order to shoot on site.”
You left the shop quickly and made your way back to the white tent, passing the redheaded spy who was watching you like a hawk. A look of understanding crossed her features as you kept a calm facade. She fucking knows, how the hell could she read you that easily?
*********************************
The next time you saw any of them, they were exiting the back of an armored prison van. It was no surprise that his eyes flitted over to his best friend from childhood. You glanced over at Barnes, who was strapped in all different ways, and your heart hurt for him. You tried not to pity him, you know you would’ve gotten a slap on the wrist from Aunt Peggy about it.
Bucky must’ve felt you looking at him because his steel blue eyes locked with your pair. This was the first time that you’ve ever actually seen the man in person. It was startling, in a good way. You grew up going to the Smithsonian and hearing Aunt Peggy’s stories about the great James Buchanan Barnes. You never thought that you’d get the chance to meet the man you did a history report on your freshman year of high school.
“Y/N?” Sharon’s voice cut through your thoughts, recalling you to reality and out of your past. “We have to go. We’ve been assigned to monitor Steve and Sam while they’re here.” Sharon was clearly not a fan of this, which made you laugh loudly.
“Oh, score! We get to babysit Captain America and the Falcon!” You spoke in an unnecessarily upbeat voice and then clapped your hands together. “Our dream job! Let’s go, Shar!” She stared at you for a millisecond before slapping a hand on your shoulder.
“Let’s go, you fucking dork.” You followed her through the office building into the control room where you observed Tony talking to Steve. Apparently, the conversation was not going well because both their faces held angry glares. Eventually, Tony left the room, leaving Steve alone with his thoughts and that can never be good.
“How you doing, Cap?” You asked as you less-than-gracefully plopped yourself into the chair across from him. He looked over at me and released a heavy sigh.
“Honestly, Y/N, not that great at the moment.” He looked at you with his iconic mom Steve stare. Wow, so that’s what it’s like to be on the receiving end of that. Sam walked in and sat next to you. You drowned out their conversation as your gaze focused on screens outside of the glass office.
The video feed of Barnes in his metal cage was displayed on a TV screen. How is this considered humane? Obviously you knew that the CIA had pushed boundaries in the past, but this was just insane. “Are those restraints really necessary?” Sam seemed to be just voicing his thoughts, not expecting a response back.
“Well, he is considered an international terrorist, so yeah, they’re kind of necessary.” You said quickly and then muttered under your breath, “No matter who thinks that it’s excessive.” Steve’s gaze met yours and he was about to speak when Sharon walked in and dropped a paper in front of Sam.
“The receipt for your gear.” A scoff sounded from Sam as he glared at Sharon.
“‘Bird costume’? Come on.” Always quick to defend your best friend.
“Hey, we didn’t write it up.” It came off snappier than you had meant it. Sharon shot you a look, signaling you to back off. You raised a brow at her as she leaned over the table to the intercom buttons.
The audio from Barnes’ evaluation echoed through the glass room. Everyone around you was unsuspecting the four of you listened in. The psychologist was talking to Barnes, who seemed incredibly closed off. Who could blame the guy though?
“I’m not here to judge you. I just want to ask a few questions. Do you know where you are, James?” The psychologist paused for a second, looking down and off to the side. “I can’t help you if you don’t talk to me, James.” The caged man spoke for the first time.
“My name is Bucky.” His voice was rough from not being used. A look crossed Steve’s face and he turned to Sharon.
“Why would the Task Force release that photo to begin with?” Sharon’s body turned to face the man speaking to her. Her brows furrowed while she answered.
“Get the word out, involve as many eyes as we can?” Your head tilted, trying to follow Steve’s train of thought.
“Right. Good way to flush a guy out of hiding. Set off a bomb, get your picture taken. Get seven billion people looking for the Winter Soldier.” Oh shit.
“You’re saying someone framed him?” You wanted to believe it with every fiber in your being.
“Steve, we looked for the guy for two years and found nothing.” Sam reminded in a calm tone.
“Yeah, you didn’t bomb the UN though. That turns quite a few heads. Especially if prominent people like King T’Chaka end up dead because of it.” You made a good point, but there were still pieces missing.
“That doesn’t guarantee that they would find him. It guaranteed that we would.” Sharon and Steve began examining the room around them. Your attention returned to the audio emitting from the intercom.
“You fear that,“ the doctor paused, “if you open your mouth, the horrors might never stop. Don’t worry.” He glanced down again and moved his hand to swipe something away.
“Guys?” You pointed to the screen as the doctor held up his pointer finger.
“We only have to talk about one.” All of the sudden, the screens went dark and the lights flickered off. Secretary Ross was yelling at technicians to get his video back. Tony was speaking to his AI, Friday, about locating the source of the outage. Steve and Sam tensed at the thought of what could be going on with Barnes.
“Sub-level five, east wing.” was all Sharon said as the pair ran off. You looked at her and threw your hands in the air.
“What the hell do we do now, Shar?” She glared at you as she started reasoning with you.
“They’re stronger than we are. If they can contain whatever the hell is happening down there then great. In the event that they can’t, we’ll be up here with Natasha and Tony to deal with it.” You nodded quickly as you both ran out of the room.
You quickly followed Natasha, Tony and Sharon to the main level of the building. Clearly Steve and Sam were unsuccessful in containing the situation because Barnes could be seen through the glass, fighting his way to his destination.
Tony stunned Barnes with a previously concealed Iron Man glove. Barnes started towards Tony and quickly attacked. After Barnes bested Tony, it wasn’t long before Natasha rushed the man alongside Sharon. It wasn’t hard for Barnes to throw Sharon across the room. Natasha took the opportunity to launch herself onto his shoulders, which caused Barnes to slam her into a table with his metal hand wrapped around her neck.
She mumbled something to him as you kicked his ribs, releasing his chokehold on her. He stumbled backwards, his hard gaze landed on yours as he approached. Your eyes locked on his as the two of you traded blows.
They weren’t the same eyes as before. Those eyes were soft and remorseful, these were hard and unattached. There was no emotion behind the pair staring at you. The fraction of a second that you were analyzing his eyes in your head was enough for him to catch you off guard. His metal fist landed in your rib cage. The opposite hand jabbed at your face, busting your lip and sending you flying backwards.
You hit your head on the concrete below, making your eyes roll back. The wind left your lungs and you gasped to get it back as Barnes and T’Challa fought in the background. It was a few minutes later that a concerned Sharon made her way over to you.
“Are you okay?” You looked her over as she did you, checking for any severe injuries. You offered a small nod, not wanting to shake your head too much in fear of a concussion. “Let’s go check in with Ross.”
******************
“And how the hell did Rogers and Wilson even know where to find Barnes?” Ross’ voice boomed through the office. No one said anything, not wanting to incur the wrath of Secretary Ross. “I’ve already allowed Stark 36 hours to find them and bring them back here.” Ross turned to you and Sharon standing in the corner of the room. “If they contact any of you, report it immediately.” Rounds of ‘yes, sirs’ bounced around the room, then chaos ensued as everyone got back to trying to clean up this mess.
“Carter. Y/L/N. Elevator now.” He raised two fingers to point toward the elevators before walking into one. It was just the three of you in the enclosed space. He clicked the button for the ground floor. “I know you have some kind of connection to Rogers but do not let that cloud your judgement. The both of you are CIA agents first.”
“We understand, Secretary.” The elevator doors opened again and you went to step out when Ross stopped you again.
“I mean it, girls. This is your job on the line here.” You and Sharon shared a look before continuing walking. Did he just call us girls?
“Do you think that was supposed to be intimidating?” You laughed under your breath as you went out to the parking lot. Sharon sighed and shrugged her shoulders.
“Probably.” She looked at you over the top of her car. “You don’t have to come with me.”
“Where do we start?”
****************************
Getting that fucking shield and bird suit wasn’t easy. They had moved it from the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre to the US Embassy to await transport back to the States. It made it easier but still damn near impossible to get. Thankfully, you and Sharon are good liars. Skills of a misspent youth.
The two of you walked in the front door and displayed your badges. “We’re here to pick up Captain America and the Falcon’s effects.” The man behind the counter didn’t even question it. Man, they need better people at the Embassy.
“You’ll have to sign some paperwork saying you picked it up.” There it is. You both flicked a brow and Sharon held her hand out for the clipboard. Small scratches from the pen in her hand were echoing throughout the empty building.
She handed the clipboard back to the man behind the counter. “Okie dokie, just pull your car around to the side of the building and we’ll get you loaded up.” He shot them a small smile and turned around to file the papers.
“That was easy enough.” You whispered to Sharon as you left, not wanting your voice to carry. You walked to your car that was parked in front of the iron wrought gate. Pulling your car around to the side of the building, you popped the trunk. The gear clad Embassy soldier carelessly tossed Sam’s suit inside before gently placing the shield on top of it.
“Hey, if there’s a scratch on that suit, it’s coming out of your paycheck buddy.” You held your pointer finger up to the man’s unimpressed face.
“Y/N, let’s go. We’ve got to get these to the jet or Ross will have our heads. Remember it’s our job on the line here.” What Sharon said made you laugh big while hauling yourself back into the driver’s seat of the car. As you pulled out into the street, Sharon was typing away on her phone and pushing it to her ear.
“This is a secure line but I don’t know for how long, so don’t talk just listen.” She took a deep breath and then continued. “We want to help. Meet us under the bridge on Route 6. We’ll be there in two hours.” She ended the call quickly and threw the phone outside the car. Glancing over at you, she nodded and sighed again.
“We’ve gotten this far.” You had one question burning in your throat that you were afraid to ask.
“Where do we go after they’ve gone?” She looked at you and she was biting her lip, something she only did when she was incredibly stressed.
“I don’t know yet. Do you have any ideas?” You smiled and thought of the one place that you wouldn’t be followed.
“Yeah, I’ve got one, but it’s rough.”
***************************
The drive to the underpass wasn’t a hard one. You had beat the boys there so you and Sharon were sitting in the car. You had the radio playing softly in the background.
“Who the hell do you know in Madripoor?” You laughed and shrugged.
“I’m supposed to tell you all my secrets for free?” You shook your head and shifted in your seat to face her fully. “I was tasked with tracking some artwork down there. One of my assignments when we went through initiation for the Agency.” You picked at the holes in your jeans. “I thought it was just all fake stuff, but I researched it more and more. Turns out, the underground artwork dealing is really lucrative over there.”
Sharon stared at you in amazement. “What did you do, Y/N?” You smirked.
“I haven’t done anything.” You held her gaze, “Yet.” She released a small laugh and her mouth hung open a bit. “I may have a warehouse out there.” You squinted one of your eyes, and leaned forward. “And the apartment above it.” She was going to say something when an old ass blue Beetle pulled up behind you.
“Now how the fuck did they all fit in that tiny ass car?” You both laughed as you stepped out of the car with big smiles on your faces.
“Not sure you understand the concept of a getaway car.” Steve walked up to Sharon and they began talking as she popped the trunk, revealing their gear. Your attention was on the men in the car behind them. Barnes was stuck in the back away from cameras and Sam was lounging in the passenger seat. Your eyes met Barnes’ again, they were back to the remorseful pair you saw the first time.
“You know he kind of tried to kill us.” You waved your hand in gesture to the man in the car.
“Sorry, I’ll put it on the list too.” He glanced back down at Sharon, who had migrated closer to him. “They’re going to come looking for you.”
She nodded, “I know.” Then the most awkward kiss in all of kissing history took place. Your brows shot up then furrowed quickly, a small wince overtaking your face. They pulled apart and traded more words. Sharon began walking back to the passenger side of the car.
Steve turned around and you looked back at the two men in the car. Both of them were wearing proud, smug grins. Steve threw his head back as if he was berating them.
“About damn time, Cap! She’s been pining over you for God knows how long now.” The windows were down in the Beetle so the other two heard you shouting at their friend.
“Y/N!” Sharon was a bit embarrassed.
“What? It’s the truth, Shar!” The two of you began bickering like an old married couple as you started the car again. Steve got all he needed from the trunk and shut it quickly, slapping it twice. You began driving off with Sharon giving you directions to an airport on the opposite side of the country.
***********************
That was the last time you saw Steve. Last time you saw anyone for a while. You had been dusted in the Blip. Sharon had followed you to your apartment in Madripoor. The two of you were able to figure the city out pretty quickly. Learning the ins and outs of the island, where to go, who to sell to. One afternoon, you and Sharon had been surveying a Van Gogh piece for your gallery when you flew away. In the middle of a fucking deal, what perfect timing.
Five years later, you were reunited with an even more successful Sharon. “I kept your room the way you left it.” She said as she led you through your shared home. “I figured that you’d be back and you’d be pissed off if I fucked with anything.”
You smiled at the woman gratefully and hugged her. Neither of you let go for a while. When you did, she started filling you in on everything. She had continued to split all her profits and had been depositing the money into your account. “Even if you didn’t come back, I could’ve used it if I needed to bug out. Win-win.” She explained with a smile.
The two of you had about six months of getting back into the groove of things. It was quickly cut off by a ping of your phones one day. A look of confusion and anger crossed her face, “Are you fucking kidding me?” She locked eyes with you and told you to get your gear.
“Where are we going?” She threw her phone at you and you looked at the screen. As soon as you read the notification at the top of it you understood. Repeating your question from before, you tied the knots on your Converse. You followed Sharon to the Low Town side of the island.
“Now what the fuck are they doing here, do you think?” The two of you camped outside of the Brass Monkey nightclub, ready for whatever came your way. Deciding that you were too visible to everyone else, you moved to the building across from the club. Something is bound to go wrong and the first place they're going to get ran to is this dead end alley.
Sure enough, not even ten minutes later, Sam, Barnes, and Zemo got cornered in the alleyway. Sharon had decided to stay on the ground floor next to the door. You shot two of the assassins following the group of three and Sharon took out the final one.
You made your way back down to Sharon, who was still holding her gun up. “You cost me everything.” She focused her gun on Zemo.
“Sharon, wait. Someone recreated the super soldier serum and Zemo had a lead.” Sam remarked calmly, trying to diffuse the situation.
“Explains why you guys are here and Selby’s dead.” Your brows shot up at that, must of been new information that she got while you were upstairs.
“Why are you here, Sharon?” Sam questioned.
“She was one of the ones who stole Steve’s shield, remember?” You stepped forward, raising your gun to gesture to the men in front of you. “And the wings, so your ass,” you waved at Sam, “could save his ass,” at Barnes, “from his ass.” You lowered your gun and stepped in front of Zemo, staring the man down. Your fist balled and you launched it at Zemo, landing a solid hit to his cheekbone.
Barnes grabbed your hand, twisting your body to slot against his with your arm bent behind your back. He leaned close to your ear, breath making shivers trickle down your spine. “I only let you do that because I’ve wanted to for a while now, so don’t get any more ideas.” Your breath hitched because of the proximity of the man behind you.
“Alright, give me my Y/N back.” Sharon said, lowering her gun to holster it. Bucky held onto you for a few more seconds than necessary and then pushed you towards Sharon as he released you. You scoffed, then shoved your gun into the waistband of your jeans. Sam and Sharon had already started their own conversation by the time you calmed down enough to face Barnes.
Sharon bobbed her head to you, an unspoken language between the two of you. After bringing them into your home, Sam began admiring the artwork in the first floor gallery. “Looks like breaking the law is treating you two well.”
“Before even graduating into the Agency, I had a place over here. Never had any intention on using it, but here we are.” You started, “Then, after having to flee Berlin, for you,” You shot a look at Bucky, “we figured if we had to hustle, might as well enjoy the good life. Do you know how much we can get for a real Monet?”
“Deactivate your hustle mode. You sell fake Monet’s.” Sharon shot him a look, about to defend us when Zemo cut in.
“No. She means real. This gallery is specialized in stolen artwork. Monet. Van Gogh. All the classics.” Sam made a face of disbelief.
“It’s true. You know, half the artwork in museums like the Louvre is fake. Real stuff sits in places like this.” Bucky gestured to the gallery. Sam pulled his phone out of his suit pocket.
“Okay, guys, I see what you’re doing. You’re more worldly than good old Sam.” He was typing furiously as he spoke. Bucky passed him, soundlessly following you and Sharon to the upstairs apartment.
“Yeah. What’s Google say?” Once the five of you got upstairs, Sharon began walking them into her office, telling them that they needed to change because we were hosting clients. It didn’t take long for the men to switch outfits. It was refreshing to see Barnes in something other than combat gear or a torn Henley. Sharon followed you in the office, making a remark at Sam while he apologised.
“Look, you know the whole hero thing is a joke, right? The way you gave up that shield, deep down, you must know it’s all hypocrisy.” She said as you plopped yourself on one of the plush chairs across from the couch, holding a clear glass full of whiskey.
“He knows. And not so deep down.” Zemo added quietly, since when is Zemo informed? Sharon glazed over his comment, opting for asking about the new Cap while filling a glass for herself.
“Don’t get me started.” Barnes spoke for the first time since being downstairs. You narrowed your eyes at the man.
“Please. You buy into all that stars and stripes bullshit.” You swung your glass to Zemo, “Before you were his pet psychopath, you were Mr. America! Cap’s best friend.” His gaze darted over to you, nose wrinkling at your comment.
“Do you know who I am?” He tried to be intimidating but it was just funny to you. You were taking a drink to moisten your throat to fire back a witty comeback, when Sharon spoke for you.
“Oh trust me, she knows. She did a report on you freshman year of high school.” You started choking on your drink as Sharon smirked from the couch next to Barnes. His brows raised and a smug smile graced his face.
“She did now?” Clearly he was a different man from the last time you saw him. Meeting his eyes for the fourth time ever, you were surprised with what you saw. There was almost a hunger lingering behind his eyes.
“Most definitely. I don’t even know how many times she went to the Smithsonian to see the exhibit about you.” You glared at Sharon, who continued to talk, unbothered by you. She raised her own glass to her lips, speaking into her cup, muffling her words.  “Honestly, think she developed a little crush.” Barnes’ eyes never left your face, his mind racing.
“Wait, so the entire time you were helping me and Steve, you had a crush on Tin Man?” Sam interjected, wanting to be included in the conversation. You rolled your eyes and gave a subtle nod to Sam. The action wasn’t missed by Bucky.
“Which is why I think it must’ve been really hard for you to ask him of all people for help. They comin’ down real hard on you out there?” You asked Barnes with a smirk and a head tilt towards Zemo. “I know he fucked you up real good, triggering the Soldier, Barnes.”
Sam laughed beside him. “Dude, that’s basically what you told Walker.” Barnes threw a glare at Sam, who had clapped a hand on his metal shoulder. The conversation dissipated after your comment, guess you killed the vibe.
Sam turned to a relaxed Sharon, “We need your help.” Her body tensed, neither one of you was ready to throw yourself back into enemy territory. “I can get your name cleared.” He dangled a huge bargaining chip in front of her face. You knew Sharon was eager to get back to the States. She misses her dad. It was unfair of Sam to use that as a way to gain her favor.
“Haggling with someone’s life like that isn’t okay, Sam.” You said quietly, focusing your gaze on the glass in your hand.
“It’s not like that, Y/N.”
“Yes, it is, Sam.” You said firmly. “You can’t just say something like that. I know you’re an Avenger. That’s great shit, but you need to realize that if you can’t deliver on your word, we go to jail or worse. You know that.”
“I don’t trust charity, Sam.” Sharon said from beside Barnes.
“All right, a deal then. You help us out, and I get your names cleared.” Your nostrils flared and you shook your head. Sharon agreed, blinded by the possibility of seeing her family again. You don’t doubt that she thought through all the outcomes, it just wasn’t the route you would’ve taken.
“We sell to some pretty connected people. Lay low, blend in, and enjoy the party.” She got up, exiting the office.
“Try to stay outta trouble, boys.” You said placing your glass on Sharon’s desk as you left. “We’ll see what we can find.”
*********************************
You were standing next to Sharon when the three men joined the party. Leaning over to Sharon, you told her you were going to get a drink from the bar. You pushed your way through the crowd, planting yourself on a stool in front of the countertop. Nodding your head at the bartender, they passed you a bottle of club soda.
“Not drinking tonight?” A raspy voice questioned over your shoulder. You turned to face the owner as you shrugged your shoulders.
“Already had my fill. And technically, I’m supposed to be working, Barnes.” Your eyes met with his again. You couldn’t tell if it was the light in the room or if it was just him, but they were a deeper shade of blue than before. He leaned his weight on his elbow that was resting on the bar top next to you. He was so close you could feel his body heat rolling off him in waves.
His eyes roamed your face, stopping on your lips as he spoke. “You know you can call me Bucky, right?” You made a face, bringing your bottle to your mouth. He watched intently as your lips wrapped around the opening.
“We’ve never had a single conversation before today. And the first time you actually met me, you twisted my arm behind my back because I punched the dickwad standing next to you.” You took another sip and his eyes drifted down to your throat. He watched as it bobbed when you swallowed.
“So, yeah. I’m going to call you Barnes.” You leaned closer, “I’ve never been given permission to call you anything else.” You could tell you struck something. Something that he didn’t even possibly know about. His face heated and he had to clear his throat before speaking.
“Um, okay. Well you can call me Bucky or if you want, James.” Your brow quirked and you pulled back to take him in fully.
“How many people have you let call you that since you got your free will back?” Your tone was serious, but your face held a smile.
“None, doll.” His eyes ran over your face again. “I just want to hear how it’ll sound coming from your mouth.” One of his metal fingers came up to rest on your bottom lip as your smile grew.
“James.” You whispered, just for him. What he was giving you was a privilege, one you were going to revel in. One corner of his mouth tugged upwards.
“Again.” He growled as his finger remained on your lip.
“James.”
“Again.”
“James.” The party around the two of you faded away. In your reality, it was just you and the man in front of you. A peaceful place, where nothing could change what was happening right at that moment.
Of course, reality is a bitch. And you never got what you wanted. Your jaw clenched as soon as your phone pinged. James dropped his hand from your face as he read the text with you.
Found Nagel. Meet us outside and if you find Bucky, tell him too.
You scrunched your nose and bit your lip. James’ hand was quick to pull your lip from your front teeth, before resting there for a second as he studied your face. He stepped back quickly, nodding his head for you to follow him.
**************************************
You don’t know how the hell Sharon managed to find him, but she did. You were in a shipping yard for storage cars. “Madripoor could give New York a run for its money.” Sam said as the five of you weaved your way through the containers.
“With a bounty on your head, the longer you’re in Madripoor, the less likely you’re ever leaving.” She glanced down at her phone in her hand. Nodding toward a red container, “Alright, he’s in there. Container 4621.” She reached into her pocket and pulled out five earpieces.
“We’ll keep watch while you guys talk to Nagel. But hurry. We’re on borrowed time.” You said as you watched everyone situate their pieces. Sharon turned around and began walking down an aisle not far from the container Nagel was in. You stopped James before he could go anywhere.
“Hey, be careful.” His eyes met yours and they were back to the normal steel blue. “Don’t forget who you are, James.” Something flashed behind his eyes, but his face showed no change.
“You too, Y/N. Don’t make me come out here and save your ass.” His eyes flicked down quickly and a smile spread quickly. “I mean, not that I would mind.” You rolled your eyes and shoved his shoulder, turning and walking down the aisle Sharon did.
“So,” She was leaned against a rusted container with a smug smile. “You and Bucky, huh?” You groaned and stood next to her.
“I don’t know, Shar. Neither one of us should be in a relationship. Especially since we’re both Enemies of the State, well one of us is, the other one was.” You turned your head to look at her. “What do you think about all of this?” She opened her mouth to speak when you both heard something ricochet off a metal wall.
She raised a finger to her mouth and crouched down before pressing that same finger to her earpiece. “Guys, we have company.” She took off down one end of the aisle and you down the opposite, ready to attack from both sides. There were three men walking towards Nagel’s container, you shot a look down to Sharon and she nodded.
She came from the back with a baton, whacking the last guy once in the knees and once in the head, disarming him. When the front man turned to help his comrade, you did the same move to him with your own baton. You both continued trading blows with the men. You had effectively taken out the first man, using his thigh to latch yourself to the third man’s shoulders. Situating yourself to use your body weight to flip him over, definitely knocking him out.
“Every bounty hunter in the city is here. We gotta go now, boys!” You yelled to your earpiece as you watched Sharon fight off another opponent.
It wasn’t until the gunfire started that Sharon said something else into the piece. “Guys, we’re seriously outta time here.” You both split off, out of each other’s view, battling your own demons. You were currently dealing with two of those said demons, when a third approached from behind. Locking you in a chokehold as the other two continued punching your ribs.
One of the hunters was suddenly ripped away from you. Punches were landing and groans were echoing through the alleyways. You threw all your body weight forward, throwing your assailant over your shoulder. Two gunshots rang out and then a third one, which landed a bullet hole between your aggressors eyes. Your head whipped around to face James, whose arm dropped back to his side.
He walked towards you, putting a hand on your back leading you to where Sharon and Sam were standing. Zemo pulled up in a blue convertible car, “Supercharged.” was all he said. Sam pointed his finger at the man in the driver’s seat.
“You’re going back to jail.”
“Do you want to find Karli or not?” James sighed heavily, his shoulder sinking with the action.
“He’s right. We need him. And there’s two of us, and at least twenty of them.” James got in the front seat, leaving the door open for Sam.
“Fine. But if you try that shit again--”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.” Zemo raised his hands in surrender. Sam turned to Sharon.
“Well, that was one hell of a reunion.” You leaned over the open door to talk to James. He looked at you with a sad face.
“Why don’t you come back to the States with us?” He tilted his head. “We could clearly use your help, doll.” You smiled at that and licked your lips before responding.
“You know we can’t. Not yet anyway.” He placed his finger back on your bottom lip, maintaining eye contact. “This isn’t the last you’ll see of me, James. That I can promise you.” He smiled and dropped his hand back to his lap.
Sam climbed into the seat behind James. “You’re not going to move your seat up, are you?” James smirked before replying.
“No.” You watched as they drove off, desperately wanting to see James again already.
You turned back to Sharon and the two of you began walking back towards High Town. “I think you should go for it.”

General off-the-cuff Loki thoughts now that the series is over:
First, let's just get this out of the way - I want to rewatch the entire thing, pillar to post, as I think going through it without the weekly speculation and expectations will make a difference.
Confession time: I wasn't a fan of the whole Loki/Sylvie romance angle and am still forming my opinions of Sylvie's character as a whole. (I will need to go back and rewatch the whole series before making judgements.) I almost wish she wasn't a variant, as I think her character would have been stronger if she didn't have those ties to our Loki.
This being said, I, on the whole, enjoyed her character, even if she felt a little one-dimensional at times. (I would have liked to have seen more flashbacks to her on the run to really dig into that need for revenge.)
Loki is not the same god of mischief by the end of the show. Not that this is bad - just different. And I'm still figuring out my opinions and interpretations of the whole thing, which waxed and waned depending on the context. Loki with Mobius and the rest of the TVA? A Grade. Loki with his own Variants? A+++++ Loki with Sylvie? Still working on that, as there were parts I loved and parts I really had a difficult time with.
Top 10 emotional right hooks to the jaw? Loki watching Frigga's & his own deaths; Loki realizing the TVA (Kang) is a greater power than he could ever imagine; Loki and Sylvie's conversation on the train; Classic Loki; Mobius not recognizing Loki at the end of the series; Kang's whole...thing; Miss Minutes jump scare; jet skis; the hug; the apocalypse (Ragnarok) realization
Honestly, I wish we had had more Sylvie and Mobius interactions
Loki had the best camaraderie with Mobius
I. LOVED. THE. VARIANTS.
Best character of the show: Crocki, obviously
By the end, I was less invested in Loki's development than the whole mystery revolving around the TVA, which only skyrocketed with Kang's reveal. I am now VERY intrigued as Loki and Sylvie (and Mobius and Hunter B-20) just blew up the timelines.
I did appreciate the greater meta revolving around free will and how we define our identities (internally, externally, or a bit of both?)
Natalie Holt killed it with the score. Enough said there.
This finale was so much much better than either Wandavision (as much as I loved Agatha, she kind of came out of nowhere) or FatWS (was not a fan of the Flagsmashers, Bucky and John Walker needed a little more development, and as much as I love Sam, the costume and speech totally threw me). Kang was believable and didn't feel like some kind of deus ex machina, especially considering that he wasn't defeaated. Also, I have mentioned this before, but holy hell, Jonathan Majors, yes, please.
I read a comment on Reddit that I think was a great observation in that Loki - our Loki - has again lost everything. He's dumped into a different timeline, no more Sylvie, no more Mobius as a friend; no family; no timeline he can go back to; and stuck with the knowledge of Kang's ascendancy with no one to listen. Our poor boy.
I wonder what Sylvie's future is going to be in the MCU, as I sincerely doubt this is the last we've seen of her.
I DEMAND MORE CROCKI. WHERE IS MY SON? IS HE SAFE? IS HE ALRIGHT?
So...Kang was deciding on which timelines passed muster. Why did he choose this particular one? Was it only because these were the only events that would keep the peace? Or was there something else?
This also makes Infinity War and Endgame just feel...like a footnote. But also opens up so many possibilities in terms of variations we can see of our characters. It's going to be insane.
On the whole, I loved this show. It wasn't at all what I was expecting - I ended up far more invested in the greater mystery of the multiverse than Loki's development, but I'm okay with that.
This means Loki - some form of him, at least, is showing up in Dr. Strange, correct?
Also, a Season 2 means the possibility of MORE CROCKI ALL HAIL YESSSSSSSSSSS
On the whole, I enjoyed this show, occasional warts and all, as it was a great piece of storytelling above all else: 9/10

I think I hate Peggy now and I have to thank you for that… You're absolutely right about her though because she truly was a cvnt like no other
It might surprise you to hear this, Anon, but it gives me no satisfaction to hear that, it really doesn't!
Can't say I'm surprised tho.
The casual sexism of the writers, leading to a lack of proper support (show and not tell) for everything Peggy claims about herself, means she can only be read as pompous, arrogant and entitled.
Either she's overstating her importance out of egotism, or she is failing at things that are supposed to be her responsibility.
I actually wish she had been what she thought she was, either as a goodie or a villain.
It's surprising how far she fails, given that the steggy ship could have been absolutely tailor-made to appeal to me.
I'm half Celt half English, from half blue-collar half middle-class family, my grandparents evaded Nazi bombs, I even look a bit like Steve (blonde & blue eyed, shoulders big enough to get me regularly misgendered; and me and Cevans even sit the same way, so I know from first-hand experience how comfy it is for us broad-shouldered folks!) I also grew up with Julie Andrews and Roald Dahl movies.
So pairing Cap with a Mary Poppins/Agatha Trunchbull blend absolutely should have worked for me.
But the way she treats Steve is-
It's creepy and controlling and presumptuous beyond belief. It's abusive. No other word for it.
I'm also a hannigram shipper, and there was a scene in that show -- y'know, with actual serial killers -- where one half of the ship merely pointed a gun at the other, without firing it.
And even in the context of the 'cannibal' show, in which murder is considered romantic, doing that ^ was seen as seriously dark and unbalanced, and not something the character would actually follow through on, as a nominally 'good' person.
It's not okay. It's not funny or passionate.
And the fact that all Peggy's 'appreciation of pre-serum Steve' screen-time is based on a Nazi character, too...
When you realise this would've been a character who looked at pre-serum Steve and saw, not a hero, but a candidate for euthanasia?
(No wonder she changed her tune when he came out of the tube! In her eyes, he was going from a subhuman to a superhuman. And that's the character that every bit of pre-Europe Peggy is meant to embody! Comics Peggy never met Steve pre serum!)
She would absolutely have made an astonishing villain.
And I was just saying to someone earlier that it could've provided a great opportunity to show off how on-point Steve's instincts are.
If, say, he was resisting the urge to start a relationship with this stunning, seemingly-good woman, just because he got a bad vibe off her... and then she turned out to be a Nazi? Especially if Steve was the only one who could see it (or if Bucky dismissed his own feelings of dislike as jealousy.)
Or imagine the plot twist in CATWS!
If, instead of showing up in Pierce's house, we saw the Soldier show up at Peggy's old folks home!
Imagine if she pulled a Keyser Söze, got up out of her bed, threw off her blanket, and revealed that she had been faking it all along!
I couldn't get enthusiastic about Madam Hydra from FATWS at all (even though she's well played) because I kept thinking, 'sorry but we've already had you, we just weren't allowed to say it.'

Been reading your stuff on Ao3 for a while, just found your writing blog (and your FatWS prompt call). If that's still open, would love to see Sam/Zemo or Sam & Zemo, two normal (er, relatively), completely unenhanced men finding themselves the sole line of defense against one of the big three (namely aliens, androids, and wizards) and having a shared moment of "Yup, this sure is our lives now."
I love this prompt! Animal harm warning, but it's not a real animal; this makes more sense in context.
--
"Fireball, left side," Zemo said calmly.
Sam ducked hastily. He caught a wash of heat and then one of the trees behind him burst into sickly green flame.
"I hate this!" Sam snapped. He swung his gun around, trying to get a bead on the wizard who might have just gone invisible. Sam really hoped not, but who knew at this point.
"I'll circle behind," Zemo said, and just like that, he was gone between the trees, a pistol in either hand.
"Wait—!"
Too late.
Sam heaved a deep sigh and made his way carefully through the trunks of the pines. It was an appropriate spot for a confrontation with a wizard, if you had to fight a wizard; it looked a little bit like a fairy-tale forest. Behind him a couple of the pines were still burning.
"Hey!" Sam called. He still couldn't figure out where their opponent had gone. "Can we talk about this? Look, I get you have grievances against the government, everyone does, but you can't just go around assassinating important political figures by turning 'em into inanimate objects, you know?" Three Senators, a Senatorial aide, and a Supreme Court justice were currently stored in a SHIELD warehouse in the form of two coatracks, a softball trophy, a roller skate and (inexplicably) a commemorative plate from the 1998 Olympics.
It really should be Strange dealing with this. Or Wanda. Or literally anyone else. But here they were, in a manhunt for a wizard on the lam, and of course it was their section of woods where the guy had finally turned up.
There was a crashing in the brush. Sam whirled around, raised his gun, and then lowered it in disbelief as a unicorn charged out of the bushes and made straight for him, horn lowered.
"Are you fucking kidding me!" he yelled, jumping out of the way.
Was it a real unicorn? Hard to say; it certainly looked like one, a glossy white horse, with a spiraling gold-colored horn that it was even now trying to stab him with. He probably ought to shoot it, but it was a unicorn, somehow it didn't seem right to—
Zemo stepped out from behind a tree and unceremoniously shot it.
The unicorn crumpled slowly to the ground.
Sam looked from the dead unicorn, to Zemo, who looked ever so slightly rattled.
"You shot a unicorn, man!"
"I saved your life," Zemo retorted.
They both looked at the unicorn and then watched as it dissolved slowly into a heap of moss and sticks.
"Fake unicorn," Sam said, cautiously prodding the moss with the toe of his boot. "One of his damn constructs."
"And our wizard is still at large," Zemo pointed out. "I believe he's become ..." He sighed without finishing the sentence.
"Invisible," Sam said.
"Yes. He may also have portaled out."
They looked at each other. There was a shared moment of ... something; Sam didn't really go around trying to have moments of fellow feeling with Zemo, but this was definitely one of them.
"So we could hunt an invisible wizard in the woods, or go back to base and wait for Strange to get done with whatever the heck is so important that he can't come help out with this," Sam said.
Zemo glanced at the trees around them. "I don't see what else we can do here with the manpower we have."
"Bucky is going to laugh his ass off about this," Sam muttered.

So I just read your post about FATWS... Personally have a huge problem with the arm "deactivation" scene. Here's the main reason why: there is absolutely NO context where it is okay to remove or mess with someone's aid or prosthetic. This is not a hard concept but here we are, yet again. So many people refuse to acknowledge this or outright say "yes, it's okay to remove/tamper with/etc another person's prosthetic device". It. Is. Not. I do not know how to make this more clear.
It's patronizing to be told to check your emotions and appreciate context and figure out your negative response when, trust me, have had to do that enough. The Whole Point that lots of people with disabilities are trying to make re the discourse around this scene is that there literally is no context where it's okay to remove someone's prosthetic without their consent. The context is irrelevant because the action ITSELF is NEVER okay. Again, I literally do not know how to make this more clear.
In conclusion please check your ableism and try to understand that some (obviously not all) of the negative response to that scene is because that portrayal of limb loss/prosthetic "deactivation" is genuinely disturbing for lots of people with aids/devices/prosthetics/etc. The fandom response has been overwhelmingly terrible as well (it's not some joke like ha ha limb loss). Getting real tired of the terrible representation and terrible takes.
First of all, I really love the “check your ableism” line. Lmao. I’m 38 and for 38 years I’ve been a disabled person. I’m in a wheelchair now and in the nearest future will undergo a surgery which outcome is really murky. Having prosthetics is a very huge possibility for me. Also, my brother has a leg prosthetic.  But my brother isn’t an ex assassin and his leg prosthetic isn’t a weapon. So yeah, it IS “patronizing to be told to check your emotions and appreciate context”. Also, this isn’t an oppression Olympics. Because if it was I’d definitely win, being a disabled non-Christian queer WOC.
Getting real tired of the terrible representation and terrible takes.
And this line just says that you didn’t really read the article in the Teen Vogue, because the author DOES say that we should criticize the ableist WRITING of the MCU movies. But most of the fandom is just using this scene to unleash the thinly veiled misogynoir in the guise of Activism_TM.
Just for the record: I don’t participate in the MCU or comic book fandoms, and none of those reblogged posts about TFATWS are mine. I agree with them but can’t take credit for them. They’re all reblogs from other people, Black women, who are tired of misogynoir both in fandom and in media, and we all should be tired of this crap.
One more thing - I do wonder why the fandom wasn’t as pissed at this scene of Tony destroying Bucky’s arm as the fans are now pissed off at Ayo. I don’t want to put the whole video, because it’s graphic, IS ableist and IS triggering.

Almost every reviewer on YouTube wasn’t satisfied with this movie IMO they said it was just Marvel combined some elements from other marvel movies so they could throw fans a BW movie so we could stfu, it didn’t do justice to the the character ,what do you think, is it really that bad.
To be honest, I've been working on this one for a while but I keep writing and deleting my response. Because all the things I want to say sound gatekeeper-y, in one of several ways.
I think you can be a Nat fan and not read the comics. I think you can be a Nat fan and never talk about her. I don't think you need to know everything about canon and be an "expert" to be a fan. I'm not interested in a locked-gate version of fandom. I don't think this movie should just be for die-hard Nat fans. And I don't think that all Nat fans will like this movie, for a variety of reasons.
Despite all of that, a lot of the comic book/movie expert reviews I've seen feel, to me, like they were evaluating a movie that isn't the one this movie was ever trying to be, and missing some of what the movie explicitly says it is because that doesn't fit what they want from it.
A bit more spoilery and a lot longer under the cut. I am so sorry I'm like this.
This movie felt tailor-made for me. Not because I loved every answer they gave, but because the questions they asked are ones I've been waiting to hear since 2012, when I first saw Avengers and then immediately went back to see the rest of phase 1. I think people disliking the answers is a legitimate opinion, and I'm looking forward to detangling that with people. What surprised me in reviews was not reviewers disliking the answers, which is legit, but not even seeming to realize the questions had been asked.
Most prominently, what felt like the huge thematic arc of the movie to me has been nonexistent in so many reviews that I've started to feel like I made it up, even though I took notes of exact quotes so I could reference them. The movie isn't a Nat origin story, and it's not about her as a cool edgy villain, so not seeing either of those didn't bother me. It's a movie about Natasha's trauma and how that manifests, and how her attempts to break free of it have harmed others in the past, and how she can move forward from that. We never get the key that unlocks the history of Natasha's past, so if you approach this as a puzzle box, it's going to fail.
THIS INDENTED PARAGRAPH IS THE CLOSEST I GET TO DIRECT PLOT POINTS, FEEL FREE TO SKIP
Specifically most of the reviews seem to view Nat's motivating guilt as over how she escaped the Red Room, particularly one casualty she deemed an acceptable sacrifice. But as I interpreted it, Nat's guilt in this movie came from a much closer place: the other Widows were all she'd had, and Nat being able to escape the Red Room made the Red Room hold on to the other Widows that much tighter. She thought she'd taken it down, but she was wrong. So her freedom, essentially, came at their expense. Natasha working to take down the Red Room this time is personal both to avenge her own trauma and to make up for her guilt in the Red Room still existing and creating more trauma for her peers. Without this context (and to be clear, I have gone back over the quotes several times to see if I'm misinterpreting and I really don't think I am), the idea that all of her guilt is over what she did to a single person makes more sense, but it also makes the movie a lot less interesting. If Natasha is justified in blaming Alexei and Melina for condemning her back to the Red Room, how could the other Widows not blame Nat? To me the entire story swings from that, and by not acknowledging Nat's (inadvertent but still very real) responsibility for continuing the cycle, the movie would feel hollow.
PLOT POINTS OVER.
Many critics they seem to feel like the potential this movie introduced was wasted because Nat's dead, so what's the point. First of all, the point is she's Nat and we care. It's not like we went in to Iron Man expecting that we'd have a decade of a franchise; we cared in the moment, and this movie is asking for the same thing. It delivers for over two hours of NOT murdering Natasha, which is more than I can say for Endgame.
To be clear, BW does set up other things for the MCU, and it's but if you're only watching it for what it's going to tell you about the future of the MCU (and I get it, because that's how I'm watching Loki, and it's a very different type of watching than I did for FATWS), this probably IS going to be a disappointment, because this isn't a big crossover event movie; I mean, none of Sam's "Big Three" show up at all. But again, that's about the movie someone wanted it to be, not the movie this was aiming to be.
Is this like a lot of other Marvel movies? Kinda. It's definitely taking a lot from Civil War for its set-up. Its arc felt like a close mirror of to Winter Soldier to me, to the extent that I'm planning to rewatch that on Thursday so I can see how much that's just me projecting my fave onto it. The third act is very Marvel-third-act-y, as adapted to Nat's character; the adapting to Nat's character are the parts I like and the rest is kind of what I consider the MCU price of admission.
I also kind of hate that it feels like the last few movies- Black Panther, Captain Marvel, now this and some rumblings about Shang-Chi- have all been kind of dismissed with "it's just the Marvel formula." It is, but that doesn't change the fact that different protagonists make it different. Dr Strange is pretty much just "Iron Man 1 with cool magic" and people didn't mind, but "how does this formula change when the protagonist is fundamentally different than the archetype to this point?" is apparently not different enough. I get Marvel fatigue, I really do, but for me it's tempered by how, in this case, Nat doesn't have the moral clarity Steve or Thor or even Tony or Scott has. No one in this movie lets her forget that she's a trained killer who little kids look up to.
Again: there are parts of this movie that don't work. I also don't ever ever EVER want to seem like I'm saying that if someone didn't like this movie they're not a real Nat fan or they're wrong. I know there are reasons to not love this movie, and I'm sure I'll figure out more the more I watch- it may not make me not love it, but it will at least complicate it for me, and i think we all know I live for that shit. Moreover, I intimately know how much it sucks when something you've been enthusiastic about and anticipating for ages doesn't pay off and everyone else seems to like it- it's isolating and upsetting and you just sit there wondering why no one else understands, and that's bullshit and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. People who don't like this movie are valid!
But if someone has a history of seeing Nat as just background, or considering her as a T&A deliver system more than as a character, or caring about hot women with guns but not care about the trauma that turned them into that, or saying they like movies about women but just not THIS woman for every comic book movie about a woman not there for them to ogle, or claiming to be experts in all things comics while doubling down on their theory that Yelena wouldn't appear because she was in Agent Carter (YES THAT HAPPENED, MORE THAN ONCE, THE NORTH. FUCKING. REMEMBERS. AND WISHES THEY KNEW WHERE THEY SAVED THOSE SCREENSHOTS), I don't need to weight their reviews heavier than the adrenaline rush I felt watching this movie.
So in answer to your question, I don't think the movie was really "that bad." I think this movie delivers in very specific ways, which definitely are not the flashy ones or the "every Marvel movie builds to the next great EVENT" ones or the male power fantasy ones, and if those ways aren't the ways you care about, it's going to be a disappointment. Even if those AREN'T the ones you care about, it could be a disappointment for any number of reasons, some of which I noticed during the movie and some of which I'm sure I'll be surprised to read about Friday morning.
But it wasn't one to me. For whatever it's worth, despite the movie's flaws, I loved it, I haven't stopped thinking about it in five days, I can't wait to see it again, and I hope that whether other people do or don't like it, they want to roll around in it as much as I do to pick out every single shred of canon worth overanalyzing.
If this is all we ever get for Natasha- and it is a CRIME if this is all we ever get for Natasha but that doesn't mean it's not so- I am grateful that this is what we got.

No one was harassing him! He was literally just asked that question once lol. And people have a problem with his comments on "people rationalizing themselves by exploiting homosexuality" which is obviously directed at queer people. No one disagrees with his comments on toxic masculinity or his decision not to "ship" his character. Also FATWS was not fanservice as far as queer representation is concerned so i'm not sure what you're on about there
They *are* harassing him about his answer which is what I'm talking about. I hate internet drama, because people are obtuse because of bias and because of basic reading comprehension problems. And they take it all the way there before stopping to think empathetically. Working oneself into a lather is a thing around here... And I also hate this line of "he was clumsy/wasn't clear" in his wording. Listen. My grandmother had a 3rd grade education. I had childhood friends who were just learning English. I hated when people said that kind of patronizing bullshit about them too. Anthony is a country guy who expresses himself with that kind of casualness, and I'm not here for the patronizing "he's clumsy when he talks so not my fault I didn't get it" when PLENTY OF PEOPLE understood what he was saying, when they didn't already have a negative prejudice about what he *would* say about this subject. What makes you think it's directed at queer people, instead of fans who see two men they find hot being affectionate and automatically think "lol they're gay! everyone involved has to affirm this or they are homophobic, because I ship it THAT MUCH!!" like fandom does ALL. THE. TIME. ...That negative prejudice you already had in mind. Yall some hollaring dogs up in this fandom, forreal. I'm not gonna repeat my other points, because I'm sick of yall. It's clear you're not a fan of Anthony beyond the MCU and the ship you want.
You haven't been following his career from the beginning or you'd know he was one of the ONLY mainstream black actors playing fully-fleshed out gay roles with kissing and all (shout-out to Will Smith not being able to do that for Six Degrees of Seperation)... way back in 2004 when it could have stopped his career ascension, ESPEC. as a black actor. As for not being fanservice, again do the work. Check the tags for "lethal weapon" on my blog... I explain it a few times. I'm not repeating myself here. As for you. I implore to reframe every ship you have with the context of *NOT* being entitled to actor support. I repeat, you aren't entitled to actor support, nor canon either for that matter.
Play in the sandbox, and stop being weird and awful to these people you project onto.
And if you aren't giving this much for actual LGBTQA+ actors and storylines, productions you don't personally ship? Then FUCK YOU. and say *no. thing* else about this subject...Please and thank you.
