I think the inhumation of Lord Winder is one of my favourite scenes in anything ever, not just because it's my fave doing something extremely cool but also because the build-up is so dramatic and described in such a way that you can picture all of it perfectly

But, yes, also because it's my fave doing something extremely cool. Look:

YES. YES. I know it's probably intended (by Vetinari, in-universe) to mean "guess who's going to kill you on behalf of multiple people" but it's SO perfect. Vetinari loves his city, and it's going to be his one day, and he's going to do more for it by loving it than Winder OR Snapcase could ever do by wanting power over it.

There's probably something metaphorical in there, if you can get past the seventeen layers of "I am very queer and have no friends" Vetinari's putting out into the world at all times.

Starting a long career in 'scaring the shit out of people so you don't have to do anything Worse'

I love this. The drama of very obviously dropping an unused sword and walking away... it's a nice comparison with Keel!Vimes sitting down with his cocoa and cigar earlier on in the book. Both are saying 'look, you can all see what happened here' in a way that cannot possibly be misunderstood.

They'd both hate the comparison a bit, I think, but they so often think along the same lines even if neither of them would ever admit it.
