1. From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series

I know I’m gonna get dragged for this, but this has been my opinion for years ever since I stepped foot in the fdtd tumblr fandom... The Kisa and Kate war thing is just ridiculous. And bashing people for having siding with either of them and saying they’re wrong to like either of them too is ridiculous when literally they’re fictional characters and these characters ain’t that deep. Like I feel like people take it too personally when the real person to blame is the writers who wrote them that way. I love both the characters and I feel like I’m the only one in the fandom that’s playing at an even field here lol because I know that both of them aren’t good and aren’t perfect, but I’m out here having fun imagining them being best buds going on a girls road trip with Kalinda, Dakota, and Maggie :p

2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Not gonna lie, ever since Dawn showed up in s5, I’ve always found her very, very annoying and never liked the plot of Buffy all-of-a-sudden having a sister.

3. Stranger Things

Definitely felt like they could’ve handled s4 better in the ending after they left Eddie in the upside down instead of just showing him dying and then flashing up “two days later.” Also, the Steve/Nancy thing they were pulling, I didn’t like it at all.

4. Kingdom Hearts

... Remember when the first game was about a boy who wanted to leave the island and travel to other worlds (disney worlds)? Yeah, that was a simple story. ‘Cause like right after that, I really felt like... that series became a cash cow for Square. Because right after that game, they came out with Chain of Memories for the Game Boy Advance and not the ps2, and then the sequel came out for the ps2, but then Birth by Sleep and Re:Coded and 358/2 Days came out for the psp and Nintendo DS, and then Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS, KHX for mobile phones, 0.2 and KH3 for ps4, and I don’t even know what KH4 is gonna be on, but it’s like I just never liked that they wanted to have these games on consoles that nobody has?? Like it’s just something that has bugged me for 20 years, like why not keep it simple and have it on like a main console brand like playstation? Like imo, I thought that they were making up these other stories just to have them for specific consoles for like a cash grab instead of having a coherent storyline that makes sense. And with KH3, I was expecting Sora’s story to be over-over, not go back to how it was in the ending of the first game where Sora and Kairi are separated AGAIN, in order for the story to keep going. Like right when the news broke out about kh4, I was happy and excited, but I wasn’t all too thrilled because I feel like it’ll be this never-ending cycle where Sora’s story is said to end, but it will never end. I will say though that the fans that kept pushing the developers to finish kh3 and kept asking when will it be released, that wasn’t cool at all. Like they don’t know how much work the devs put into to creating a game, and for them to demand it, that wasn’t right and I felt bad for the devs.

5. Yellowjackets (SPOILERS AHEAD)

S2 was not as good as s1. I felt like everything was rushed to answer almost everything, while there’s still important things left unanswered. Natalie being the antler queen???? And then having her killed off while she was also a recovering addict was just a wrong move. She was literally the most sane character in this story, and now the most sane person is gone. I don’t even know if I wanna watch it anymore after that because she was the strongest character and my favorite, and I had high hopes for her. I was hoping s2 was all just a dream because it all felt like one big joke to me. There was no mystery, no thrill, nothing that left me hanging wanting more like s1 did where there was one mystery after the next that doesn’t reveal itself. And I also didn’t like the Misty/Walter thing, like it was cute, but it also got on my nerves idk how to explain it lmao 😂

I felt like I was rambling through this 🤣 But yeah, those are my unpopular opinions.

So, here’s this! One day I won’t keep writing SethKate WIPs that take place immediately after Matanzas, but today is not that day. Enjoy!

And as I was finishing up the One Year After Matanzas section (aka: the actual reason I wrote this fic in the first place), I realized this also technically fills a prompt that @yossariandawn sent me, oh, a million and a half years ago for the line, “You’re never going to let that go, are you?”

It just, you know, took me over 10,000 words to get there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kate Fuller and moments from her first day, week, month, and year after Matanzas

One Day After Matanzas

It’s not until Kate rolls over onto the shoulder she hurt while fighting off those zombies and pain flares all the way to her neck that she wakes up on the morning after Matanzas.

Everything that happened after the gate closed comes back to her in fragments. It’s Seth and Richie about to walk off into the sunset after Scott took off in one direction and Kisa and her culebras went in another, before Richie turned back around and told her they weren’t about to leave her behind in the middle of the desert. It’s curling up in the back seat of the car they stashed at the edge of town on the off chance they managed to survive their last-ditch effort to stop Amaru from unleashing hell on Earth. It’s falling asleep with her cheek pressed to the window before they passed Matanzas’ borders.

It’s waking up just enough to be aware of Seth lifting her out of the car and carrying her to the room they’re in now, where she somehow mustered the energy to not just shower without falling asleep and drowning, but also to get dressed before she flopped on the bed in oversized sweats and a t-shirt.

It’s the vague recollection of Seth tending to the wounds on her wrists as she dozed, finally succumbing to the pressures of sleep just as he finished taping down the bandage on the gash on her shoulder. She was on her side while he worked, muttering under his breath all the while about something she didn’t have the energy to pay attention to, just let the sound of his voice wash over her, and it was so easy to just—go to sleep.

So she did.

Rolling off her throbbing arm, Kate settles on her back, taking in the nondescript white of the ceiling while some of the less-than-pleasant memories from yesterday, from the last nine months, from the last two and a half years, come rushing back to her.

Until—

“Hey.”

She turns her head on the pillow, finds Seth sitting next to her with his back to the headboard. His legs are stretched out under the covers and he’s turned away from the tablet resting on his thighs to look at her. All the skin exposed by the white muscle-tank he’s got on is, well, it’s a lot for her half-awake mind, and it’s also absolutely covered in bruises. Even some of the bold lines of his tattoo are blurred by massive, blue-black splotches.

A part of her wonders exactly he went through before he found her in that church.

But the rest of her doesn’t know if she can handle stories from Matanzas right now.

Not yet.

Curious. What do you mean by Dust till Dawn going against it's Characters? I know I have my own feelings, or confusion, with how they left Kate's story.

From Dusk Till Dawn effectively character assassinated every single character in the very last episode including Kate Fuller. No one is acting like themselves in that series finale it's like some deranged fanfic writer came aboard and hijacked the show while no one was looking. If you thought 15x18 & 15x19 of Supernatural were bad and believe me they really are; those episodes are minorly salvageable against the slaughterhouse that Dusk 3x10 was. It utterly contradicts and ignores everything the show put forward in all 3 seasons. I will never watch that episode again.

I'll first explain what that piece of shit did to the show's lead protagonists, the Gecko brothers. Regardless of how you or anyone else feels about Supernatural's series finale; that show was a saint to Sam and Dean's storyline beginning to end compared to how From Dusk Till Dawn definitively butchered Richie and Seth. I'm sad saying this because Zane Holtz and DJ Controna are outstanding as these characters. I freaking love their chemistry man, it's a great rival to J2! They're the badass dark clones of the Winchesters.  Their arc starts out fascinatingly complex because they went from cold-blooded criminals/bad guys and meanwhile during their escape over the Mexican border with this hostage family the audience is told pretty quick by Professor Aiden Tanner that the Geckos are destined to become these foresworn warriors The Mayan Hero Twins in an ancient prophecy (based on real Mesoamerican lore) who battle the Underworld. So right away the show is telling us ahead where Seth and Richie are suppose to end up in their journey and when you introduce a storyline this big I expect a satisfying payoff.

At the end of season 1, Richie Gecko is *SPOILER ALERT* transformed into a culebra (snake-vampire) while Seth Gecko remains human symbolizing their night and day Hero Twin counterparts from the legend. And they're separated in the first half of season 2 where both try to navigate this new supernatural world they've stumbled on individually. What they find, no different than the Winchesters, is that neither can function properly without the other making their destiny all the more valid. That season is practically constructed like their swan song to the criminal lifestyle since the brothers are meant to become more than crooks; and since Richie's a vampire they can't ever go back to basics. Their adopted father aka uncle Eddie actually says the line "this is my swan song" in 2x07 to Seth and Richie in reference to their final heist together which is not a coincidence. That's the writers telling us that the Gecko Brothers' role in the show is going to shift from anti-heroes to heroes very soon. Eddie and Kate Fuller's fates in S2 act as the primary catalysts for this transition taking shape in the finale.

Going into season 3 it's business as usual for the boys until the prophecy of the twins officially rips a hole in the damn universe via demon queen Amaru. Who's now possessing Kate. Throughout that season Seth and Richie embark on a journey of heroism; find themselves battling monsters, actually saving civilians and dealing with their own personal demons (guilt and remorse over past sins). That year is presented as their redemption arc and final phase into their new role. No one ever tells them about their destiny (despite most of the other characters knowing) but we as the audience are already aware as we watch the brothers in action. The best episode is without a doubt 3x06 the crown jewel of From Dusk Till Dawn because it's about overcoming the darkness inside. And who best represents that than Richie; the show's most important central character whom began the series as a deadly clairvoyant criminal into the tortured vampire hero struggling with his own humanity. Now I won't spoil the whole episode for anyone who hasn't seen it or the show in general but it's an incredible moment of character development for both the Gecko brothers. Not only does it cement their powerful bond it's the episode that defines who these two are once and for all. The ones who lead the battle between good and evil; keep the balance of light and darkness. One day I plan to do an entire analysis of that episode because it's so fucking brilliant and shot so incredibly eerie at the same time 😁

You want to know what 3x10 does to these characters? It shits all over their entire storyline and pisses away THREE FUCKING SEASONS of character development. Just flushes it all down the toilet rendering everything they've ever done up to that point completely pointless! Their destiny which is the WHOLE POINT OF THE SHOW is suddenly dropped last minute and the Geckos hit reset on their former criminal escapades; dragging Kate along with them. I hate that finale with the fire of a thousand suns for what it does to Richie and Seth 😡

Moving on to Carlos Madrigal. He is the best villain character in the history of show villains hands down. I can actually say that without blinking. Wilmer Valderama is phenomenal, he steals the show as Carlos. He's is so freaking awesome, evil and badass! I just want to keep seeing this man tear things apart while being the sexy asshole he is 😈For all intents and purposes I don't want to spoil his whole storyline on the show for those following me in case they're interested. But what I will say is 3x10 destroys this character; so don't watch it if you want to keep the memory of who he was alive. I'm actually depressed over what was done to him as much as I feel sorry for Wilmer having to perform that shitty script. It's laughable in a very bad way. Gotta hand it to the writers and showrunners of FDTD they certainly knew how to humiliate their best characters in this series. Carlos basically goes from charismatic yet lethal Hannibal Lecter to a very captain obvious Gandolf caricature. Yah you heard that right, it's really fucking sad.

Next we have Freddie Gonzalez; the audience's avatar into the series. This character is connected to everyone on the show for a reason because of the crucial part he plays in this universe. The "Peacekeeper" destined to police the line between the supernatural world from the human world. In the beginning he's a Texas deputy on a quest to avenge the murder of his father figure/partner Earl McGraw via the Gecko Brothers. But once he steps in that territory of monsters there's no going back. And FDTD repeatedly tells him and the audience this in the first 2 seasons. But then 3x10 pulls the ultimate fuckery by giving him the most cliched, nonsensical hallmark ending effectively cancelling out his entire purpose in the series. He instantly forgets that he ever cared about Kate, watching her bleed out on the ground, then leaves the Geckos high and dry rushing his family (who isn't injured) to the hospital. And he stays there while the battle continues 😣

Kate and Scott Fuller OMG words cannot describe my anger over what was done to them so I'll make it fast. I'll begin with Kate the bright light and heart of the series. Her arc in the first two seasons is excellent. It's emotionally driven because she begins as an ordinary girl in broken yet seemingly-happy family to a young woman finding her way around the supernatural world maintaining her faith and moral compos while trying to help her brother after he's *SPOILER ALERT* been turned into a vampire; paralleling the Geckos's situation. Scott being only a 16 year old kid, like Richie, struggles immensely after his transformation; searching for meaning as a cursed individual and coping with his duality. He was already different to begin with so being a vampire adds some interesting layers to his character.

Btw Kate plays a vital role in Richie and Seth's lives, though in my opinion is more strongly connected to Richie. The show even goes as far as developing the early glimpses of a romantic arc between Kate and Richie (seeing as they kiss twice) with angst at the end of season 2 that is never resolved. You want to know why it wasn't? Not only does season 3 mute Kate's voice and agency but 3x10 ruins her character and demolishes her whole arc with Richie (who spent all of season 3 trying to save her) at the last second due to fan pressure of those who shipped her with Seth. They don't exchange one word nor barely look at one another it's like seasons 1&2 never happened. This is the biggest fuck you to fans of these characters I've ever witnessed in a series and they did my boys Adam and Michael so dirty in Supernatural. Poor Scott whom the show enjoyed kicking around all season barely gets a thing to do in that series finale either than listening to his sister and Seth gab about prom lol. Yah you heard me I'm not making this shit up I swear. Then he gets abandoned by Kate while she goes off to be a bank robber with the character assassinated versions of Seth and Richie. How extraordinary 😖

Santanico Pandemonium is really the only character in the series who manages to get out unscathed. HOWEVER her arc is handled very poorly beginning to end. They set up an arc between her and Seth that also goes absolutely nowhere. Give her zero closure with Richie whom she sired, dated and used in S2. And randomly throw her in a scene with Kate that makes no fucking sense after these two had nothing to do with one another all series. On top of that Santanico is barely in season 3 so by the time the show wraps her arc feels incomplete.

Other characters go missing that no one notices, the new bad guy whom they've set up at the end is just left hanging. And Richie Gecko, you know the show’s other lead, is horribly sidelined after 3x06 to make way for the Seth Gecko solo show. When I say FDTD series finale is bad I mean it's really fucking terrible and blasphemous.

20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on.

Completely unedited, but a snippet from the Kate-centric, post season 3 fic. (although this has been edited for here because it holds some potential spoilers for later on in the fic and at least one misleading line)

“You need to find a way to reclaim your body for yourself,” Kisa continues as if Richie had never spoken.

“Is that what you did?” Her voice sounds lost and she doesn’t like it, but she can’t stop herself from clinging to the thought that she won’t always be like this, the hope that she can get better.

“Yes.”

“How?”

“I had sex with Richard.”

Seth chokes on his drink, coughing loudly into the suddenly silent kitchen. Kate can’t see Richie’s face, can’t take her own stunned gaze from the woman before her, but he must be doing something because Kisa looks past her with a softened eyes and parted lips, before returning her attention firmly back to Kate, effectively ignoring both brothers.

“I cared for him and wanted him. But most importantly I trusted him. Physical connection with someone you trust can be a very powerful thing.”

“I don’t trust a lot of people,” Kate blurts out, clinging to the last part like a lifeline as her cheeks burn.  

“Now hold on,” Seth cuts in, words spilling forth in a rush to take control of the conversation. “Let’s just take a fucking breath before we make any rash decisions here.”  

“Kate?” Richie says quietly, a warning and a question and a promise all at once. And Kate knows, has seen the darkest depths and bright, blinding edges of Richard’s tortured soul, has the taste of it etched into her very existence. 

Kisa must hear it too, because she almost freezes, thoughts shuttering behind her dark eyes as she carefully holds her body in a practiced state of relaxation. Seth’s protests grow louder.

“I don’t think sex is what I need,” Kate says slowly, and the room goes quiet, Seth tapering off from where he’s been holding a one-side argument against the whole conversation with the room at large.

35. Tell some backstory details about one of your characters in your story ________.

Let’s see, who have I not given background details on yet? And that won’t also give away future spoilers....

Scott still sets a party with his lacrosse team in this, but since Kate shows up a day later in this fic than in canon, it happened before she gets to Bethel. Under all that desire for revenge (a lot of which is misplaced anger from being a kept chained up at Narciso’s feet for three months) the core of what Scott wants is acceptance so the party goes a bit different. Scott leaves, for starters, when his hunger starts to threaten his control, snagging a neighbor’s pet and then hiding from the sun at home. So while Scott hasn’t killed quite so many people that Kate personally knows/knows about, he’s still the angry little murder bean he is in canon.

Mild-ish spoilers: Kate’s return to Seth has had positive ripples (Seth doesn’t keep Sonja around, Richie is forced to take off his blinders and see how actions affect other people, Kate has someone else backing her for her confrontation with Scott), because Kate is observant and sees the good in people. But a less-than-positive result is that Freddie’s still all alone in his own journey and will be worse off for it.

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.

Hmm, gotta think about that.

Probably my weirdest-yet-serious fic is a body swap BtVS fic with the whole scooby gang. I actually wrote a good chunk of it out before I lost it all in a computer death and decided not to rewrite it. It got weird in how I decided it was more of a conscious swap over a soul/body swap and so Xander (who was in Willow) had to figure out how to do the spell to get them back to normal, and Dawn (who was in Spike) had to deal with not having a soul, or rather everyone else had to deal with her not having a soul, etc. I’m sure I’ve probably had weirder ideas, but if I can’t write something for whatever reason (like it being too weird) I typically just leave it be.

I did write a The World Ends TBBT fic, which I suppose can be seen as weird, but I think that has more to do with my love of post-apocalyptic stories. (I’ve written a lot of them, lol)

Less serious, but I don’t know how “weird” it is vs plotless and cliche and an utterly self-indulgent FDtD “fic” (it’s more of an exploration in What If) involving time travel that I’ve never written a single word of, letting it exist entirely in my head, but will also happily ramble away about because, like I said, its a very self-indulgent story and I’ve thought about it a lot.

Happy rambily mess that just skims over it while still being really long:

Post-series!Seth and Kate find themselves at the Dew Drop Inn inside the RV moments before a very human Richie comes in with a very human Scott at gun point. Confusion abounds all around and all seven of them, including past!Seth and past!Kate, end up traveling into Mexico with bickering and arguments and everyone’s confusion over how comfortable and familiar future!Seth and Kate are with each other, but Richie’s the one that notices his brother’s new tattoo and puts two and two together, which leads him to decide that he’s Making That Happen. Future!Seth immediately declares they are not going to the Twister and past!Seth does NOT react well to having anyone, even himself, barging in and trying to take charge and becomes a stubborn irrational bastard over it (they may come close to blows on several occasions). Richie and Scott have a bit of geek out over timelines and alternate realities, and future!Kate decides they still need to go to the Twister but she is going to do everything she can to protect her family.

Once at the Titty Twister they find future!Scott and future!Richie (because my brain went humans at the Inn and culebras at the Twister for semi-justifiable reasons), and a big debate begins on who is going in and who is staying in the RV, which is an entire scene that reveals a lot all around. (Jacob notices future!Kate and Scott’s reaction to seeing him and realize what it means that there’s no future him popping up.)

Before all hell breaks loose, things go a little different, with future!Seth sticking by Jacob’s side and past!Richie still playing matchmaker with his time’s Seth and Kate (no Richie and Kate kiss here, which I actually don’t mind in the show, but for some reason do end up getting rid of a lot in season one AUs. But it just makes sense that a Richie that’s trying to hook a girl up with his brother would not kiss said girl), etc. Once the culebras come out, things go much the same as they did the first time, only this time future!Scott rats out Tanner for being on Carlos’s payrole and future!Kate lets slip that he tried to sacrifice her after past!Kate says that he hit on her, and future!Seth decides the future doesn’t really need him anyways and shoots him.

Future!Seth insists he’s the one who’s going to go into the heart of the labyrinth after past!Richie (who still gets shot and bit, but he expects it this time) since he knows how to handle that shit, and since they don’t need to find Scott this time, the Fullers, Freddie, and past!Seth all end up in a different area that still shows them moments of truth/their past, but makes everyone else witness it too (because self-indulgence!) which gives a nice glimpse of the future and insights.

Meanwhile, future!Freddie left the Dew Drop Inn and is with his family trying to explain what’s about to happen to Margaret and fix his marriage before his past self fucks it up. Because Freddie/Margaret have my heart.

Since you compare them to Santhony...what’s Richiekisa?

HAHAHA just my otp to end all otps, the number one, the one all others are judged against, you know the deal. 

So, Richie and Kisa are characters in From Dusk Till Dawn, the series. It is... honestly, as different from Bridgerton as you could possibly get. I think I know five people, besides myself, that have watched both shows and there's good reason for that. I would never rec FDTD to Bridgerton fans or vice-versa. It's about two criminal brothers (Richie and Seth), running from the police, crossing the border into Mexico and getting involved with Mexican snake vampires (culebras). Kisa is one of those vampires, lmao. It's based on the Robert Rodriguez movie and it's everything you could expect, it's gritty, bloody, full of gore, unapologetically trashy at times, but also full of complex characters and relationships.

Now, about richiekisa, it's not that are that similar to santhony, it's more like there are elements in common to both ships that attract me. Except santhony is the fluff version and richiekisa is dark and twisty. I don't even know how to explain everything they go through without major spoilers that you probably don't care about. It starts with Kisa invading Richie's mind and making him hallucinate things in order to get him to Mexico because she has been imprisoned for centuries and he is the only one who can set her free. So, like, nothing to do with santhony, lol. But, if you're still with me, their first meeting in person is Kisa pole dancing and Richie watching her gobsmacked, not unlike Anthony and Siena in 1.04. And you get one my favorite parallels, which is that both these women are performers and they do so not only on the stage, but out of it too, in order to survive in a world dominated by men that see them as nothing more than things to be owned. And Kisa needs Richie (first to free herself and then to take down the man who imprisoned her) so her seduction of him is, in part, based on that, but at the same time you get these really sweet moments between them that show how much she cares for him and how pained she is that she has so much baggage and so many issues that she can't give him the type of relationship and commitment that he wants. Season two deals with them realizing that being together isn't easy and eventually, Richie betrays her to get what he wants (aka, the richiekisa equivalent of Anthony breaking up with Siena). But you see that, even though he betrayed her, he still loves her, and she also acknowledges that, but saying that what they had couldn't last forever. Season three doesn't deal much with them, but you still get Richie pining for Kisa from afar (Anthony much?) and understanding her without her even saying anything and she cries when she thinks he is dead! So, yeah, that's my otp.

I don't know if all I said makes sense, but maybe to understand where i'm coming from: my kisa and siena parallels gifset; richiekisa exile set x santhony exile set; and  this santhony set is based on a richiekisa quote.

R: Oooh I answered this one here!!! Tenten has all my love and I’m pretty excited to write more for her. 

26.  Which part of [x fic] was the hardest to write?

R: I think the hardest part is the part I’m currently writing and haven’t posted yet which is their relationship lmao. I think I built up them getting there so so much that now that I’m actually writing it, it’s super daunting. I already changed things, the last chapter I posted, which was the one with the two of them getting back to Konoha and going to the bar, they were supposed to have sex. LOL. Yeah, I wrote it all, like.. over 5300 words for the smut itself and then 12000 of the morning after and a follow up smut xD And then I scraped it. I decided to go a different direction and while I’ll probably recycle those scenes later on, it just wasn’t the right moment, I think. But yeah, I’m having a bit of a hard time with that!!!

30. Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.

R: I assume you’re from the KakaSaku fandom and since the only longfic I’m planning to write in the near future is for the From Dusk Till Dawn fandom, I’ll keep it short. Basically, I’m going to write a fic in the format of the series as if it was a sequel for FDTD. It’ll have ten chapters (or two “seasons” with 10 chapters each) and it’ll be about the aftermath of the series finale. I don’t want to spoil anything even though it will become a major plot point in the first chapters but I’ll basically be diving deep into the mythology/religious aspects of the show, not shying away from the supernatural at all! Some angst, some sex, some heists, a lot of blood >:)

why are so many fic authors living in s1??? i skimmed through the ao3 tag and it’s... well, you know. mainly focused on certain white ships, ignoring the culebras or outright turning characters into pseudo-winchesters and trying to commit genocide

which was understandable post-s1, but by post-s2 there’s clearly some nuance to the culebras, and now post-s3 there’s obviously some deep stuff abt slavery and/or cycles of abuse; we’ve got TWO canon wlw ships; super interesting worldbuilding re: the history of culebras/xibalbans/peacekeepers and all that jazz

i’m v. amused by dakota mcgraw out of nowhere even though i’m a little cautious abt where that storyline’s gonna go
