The war beckons
Tumblr media
Open the announcement from Hubert von Vestra
Initially, my agreement to answer your questions was at the behest of Her Majesty to better acquaint myself with our allies. I obliged on the grounds that I have been in service to Lady Edelgard since I was a child and as such, I am well-versed in many matters pertaining to her rule and our nation.
But it has since evolved.
Through fond moments and tense altercations, I’ve learned a great deal and forged many bonds I will not soon forget. There are subjects I was not willing to consider previously that I have reflected on, and I believe it was ultimately to my benefit that I did so. My stance on my father has shifted to allow for more than hatred of him to exist, however fraught it remains even so. I have discovered ways to see the Nabateans as an individual people worthy of mercy, even as we hold them accountable for the violent oppression they made possible.
My knowledge of your realms and those beyond have further encouraged this development of my character that will doubtless serve me well when peace has been secured.
To that end, I’m afraid I must close this chapter we have shared for so long. The war beckons, and I must answer in order to realize the future we have fought to achieve.
It is my sincerest hope that your future is equally bright. May you soar to new heights and walk the path your heart is drawn towards.
Regards,
Hubert von Vestra

[Thank you for all the asks and support this blog has gotten! Even though it’s my decision to end the blog so I can be better about self-care and commit to other projects/demands, I’ll miss these asks dearly.
Submissions are still open, so you can still share anything you’d like about FE3H or the new game for me to queue and share with our community here!
I’ll also still be queueing up works about Hubert, and I’ll be around to chat in comments too. I may not be as responsive as I've been so far, but I hope you all still enjoy what I’ll share on this blog.
As for any future Hubert blogs, please treat them with respect and support like you have with me! There can never be too much love for our favorite shadow. 🖤]

Hello, Sir Frederick the Wary! I admire you sooo much! Still love setting fires?
Tumblr media
Setting fires? Never in my life have a set a fire! Considering you called me Frederick rather than Ferdinand, I am inclined to believe that you are mistaking me for someone else.

ashe + 12!
hi hi!
12 - what's a headcanon you have for this character?
oh I have like three big ones for him which are canon to every story I write that he appears in, and I can't decide which one I like the most so I'm going to say all of them - I hope that's ok!
the first is that Ashe isn't his birth name (like how Yuri isn't actually called Yuri). As far as I'm aware, Gaspard seems to be one of the smaller areas in the Kingdom, and since Ashe worked in his parents restaurant, I imagine he may have been quite well known to a good few of the townsfolk. So, either when he turned to thievery or when he was taken in by Lonato, I like to think he took on a different name (that name, of course, being Ashe). I usually write his birth name to be Allister.
the second is that silver isn't his natural hair colour. This mainly came from me messing around with colours one time while drawing him and I really liked the idea so I've just been running with it since. I don't know how his hair turned silver (stress maybe??) and I haven't decided on what his natural colour actually is - 50/50 between black and ginger.
and finally, Ashe can see ghosts. He usually doesn't realise he's speaking to them (inspired by his support with Mercedes in Hopes) but he can indeed see and speak to them just fine.
Thank you for the ask!!

💝 A headcanon about their love language
for sylvain!
Sylvain’s love language? Oooh okay. To me, he’s a real acts of service guy—words of affirmation are what he’s gotten all his life, his quality time w/ women has been shallow and unfulfilling, and same can be said for gifts. So to me it really seems like he’d be a big acts of service guy, followed by physical touch, like, after everything he’s been through it’d be *those* that /really/ express his love for others, and those that’d /really/ let him know that he’s loved.

do you have ideas for what an ashe/dorothea support would look like? :o
ok, so think about it: they were both orphaned and homeless for a time, but their ideals regarding the nobility are so fundamentally different because of what happened to them before they were taken in by lonato and the opera company respectively. i think it would likely include them finding out about what happened to each other (maybe some more information about what dorothea did to survive 👀) and the aftermath of that. it would also serve as another way to establish differences between adrestia and faerghus (maybe differences on how orphans/the homeless are treated, that sort of thing) and i think would likely include dorothea lamenting how positive and hopeful ashe was despite everything. i also think she’d establish that she thought ashe naive until she found out about his past.

Hiya! Hubert fan here. It will forever be disappointing to me that Hubert gets whitewashed by CF stans by acting like Marquis Vestra had it coming and Hubert was perfectly fine to be judge, jury and executioner. Dear lord, no. It's very heavily implied in the Hubert & Hanneman support that Marquis Vestra turned on Ionius because Ionius was a threat that wanted absolute power, and Marquis Vestra was simply protecting his family by participating in the insurrection of the 7. (1/2)
Hubert tells Hanneman to his face that he doesn't care if daddy wanted to protect his family, because in killing his own father, Hubert was doing it to protect someone he loves (Edelgard). Hubert makes no petty excuses or justifications for himself: his dad has reasons and so does Hubert. But what Hubert does is still very very wrong. To execute your own parent without a trial or investigation. Not to mention that killing family is a big red flag too. Stop whitewashing Hubert! (2/2)
Thanks for your ask, anon!
Edited to add note: “whitewashing” in this case has nothing to do with race, but rather about diluting the moral greyness of a character/glossing over their darker sides to make them look better.
Yeah, I'm not gonna say Marquis von Vestra was the nicest man (he probably wasn't, since he fulfilled roughly the same role to Ionius as Hubert to Edelgard, so he probably assasinated and bribed many a person as well), but even so, killing him was undeniably cold-blooded, especially since it's not like Edel and Hubert didn't have any other options (such as using non-lethal poison or brute force to capture him and put him under house arrest, like they did with Duke Aegir). Killing your own kin, except in cases of immediate self-defense, is something that would be considered a terrible crime, even in current times... and Hubert makes no apologies for it. He stands by his decision and even admits he has a blind spot when it comes to his father and does not really care. It makes him an interesting and competent character (he is my favorite character in CF!), but as the meme goes: cool motive, still murder.

Being a normal edelgard fan is difficult in the sense that i get secondhand embarrassment from her more toxic fans
Like
*pokes the three houses fandom with a stick* c’mon, be fun again
I feel bad for you guys cause you do tend to get lumped in with the toxic stans and its not fair.
Honestly though the near 4 years of discourse and greatly soured my enjoyment of the 3Hs fandom in general which is kinda sad. There was plenty of issues in the game I was willing to overlook when I was enjoying the fandom but my bitterness towards the fandom just translated to me being less forgiving on the games flaws as well. Which is a shame I admit.

An anon from another user said, to quote them: "It's told time and time again with shit like '[Claude's] smile doesn't reach his eyes' and that 'he's a schemer' and all that. Except in the golden deer route (Or any route really) he never did any sort of 'schemeing' or backstabbing or anything that even made him the SLIGHTEST bit morally grey. And now, he's fixed!"
And, like... manipulating people for their power so that you can help others isn't morally gray? Lying to everyone who trusts you with their life because of the very real danger of what happens if said lie is outed to the wrong person isn't morally gray? Bringing in the aid of a formerly hostile foreign nation without informing your friends - who still think said foreign nation is hostile - isn't morally grey?
Doesn't it click for that anon that the REASON other characters don't trust Claude and talk about him like this is because Claude... does stuff like this? While KNOWING it will make people distrust him, but he doesn't ultimately care because these actions are still keeping the most amount of people safe? Does anon - and a lot of other people, apparently - not realize that good people... can still come ACROSS as bad people, depending on their actions and how they look to others?
Or do they really think "well other characters think X character is bad, therefore X character MUST be bad, and if X character isn't bad then X character is being written badly"??
I know exactly what anon you're talking about and exactly what user you're talking about because I fucking lost my mind reading that ask fklgjdfg. Nearly ripped out my damn hair.
(As an aside, I completely agree with what @butwhatifidothis said. Claude does a million and one things that make people raise eyebrows, but the original response is better at addressing that in dept. I take a slightly different angle.)
For Claude, it's a matter of doing things that are unideal for the right reasons. Is that morally grey? Depends on where you draw the line. Is Dimitri morally grey? No, frankly, because regardless of his actions, his morals remain intact: in his own eyes, he's less than human for what he does. His right and wrong are perfectly intact. But, he still kills, which is bad by societal standards. But he only kills imperial soldiers. A war is going on. Does a moral compass adjust for war? Does that then open up moral greyness when the compass shifts to out of war? Are there different compasses entirely?
That's the problem with morality, especially when you try and play with the middle ground of it and apply it to characters who are neither one thing nor another. People don't do well with middle grounds. Humans like lists and boxes, which is what creates the appeal in not being easily sorted into those lists and boxes.
The fact remains is that despite his actions, Claude's moral foundation is a solid one. But, for the sake of this silly goofy argument, let's say that both games are an example of grey morality. Let's just--create that foundation.
And then let's play a game, because I think there's a very distinct problem with painting both games with the same brush, and it has to do with what's evoked in the player.
Why doesn't Claude just come out and say he's Prince Khalid? Because it would paint an even larger target on his back, seeing as an assassin crops up in Azure Moon, when he hasn't said a word about, or done a single thing to indicate, who he is. Also I believe the implication is that Claude . . . promised his parents he wouldn't. What do you do when you promise to lie? Either you break the promise or you follow through on it, and either option is the typical "bad" move. Kid trying not to get himself killed? Sympathy: earned.
Why does Claude keep nearly everyone and their mother at arm's length? The short and sweet of it is that life has not been all that kind to him, and his drive to create a world where no one else is subjected to that sort of cruelty means he looks out for any and all chances to make that dream come along more efficiently. It means he reveals things about himself covertly (the story he tells Marianne) with the intention to comfort without becoming vulnerable, and sees in Byleth a means to an end before he comes to value them as a person first and foremost. Guy dancing around vulnerability because some people have sucked so far and feeling unendingly driven to make his dream a reality? Sympathy: earned.
Why does Claude walk up to Byleth in their hour of mourning and basically say "I'm gonna ask you to do this thing, but also if you don't, I'll do it when you're not looking"? Same answer as the previous, in that he has a sort of tunnel vision regarding his dream that it manifests in arguably ugly ways. But the dream is a good one, and makes this moment an example of his character flaws. Sympathy: intact, though I do want to shake him like a rattle.
Why does Claude lie to an allied lord in order to help another country's forces? Because Dimitri's forces are gunning for the Empire (the quickest way to end a war that is costing an endless amount of lives) and Gloucester has been forced to ally with that same empire. Claude's whole "bring about peace with minimal blooshed" thing remains true even here. Leader deceiving one of his own (who's allied with the enemy) to get rid of said enemy? Sympathy: earned, with a sprinkling of respect.
Now!
Why does Claude ally with EdeIgard? Because, I think, maybe, perhaps, that seizing Arianrhod was a show of strength. Strength is king, apparently. Despite the fact that Faerghus remained their own entity, even after the stronghold was won. So. Not that strong. Why did he do this again? Sympathy: not earned.
Why does Claude leave EdeIgard alive in Three Hopes? I . . . don't know. He suddenly has a moral obligation to keep her alive when he said "We'll be using the Empire right back." Not even Claude knows what shade of morally grey he's supposed to be. Sympathy: who?
Why does Claude invade Faerghus? Because a letter was too boring, and to boot he cites a centuries old and gone conflict between their countries. Sympathy: 404 not found.
Why does Claude stoke the fire of the Sreng-Faerghus feud? To make the above easier, despite the above being nonsensical to the nth degree. Does he care about the lives lost in the process? Probably. Not enough to avoid the invasion though. Sympathy: couldn't find it if it killed me.
Why does Claude want Rhea dead? The only place we see him gain info on her is via EdeIgard. We're trusting her now? Sympathy: Fuck off.
The issue, to me, is glaringly obvious here, because moral greyness often flies on the the grounds of sympathy. Claude lies and plots and schemes, but in Houses there's a litany of reasons for why he does it, and each of them is sympathetic. That's what's missing from Hopes!Claude: cause for us to understand why he does what he does. Motives that we can sympathize with and actions we can interpret through those lenses. Frankly, "this is the guy we were supposed to get all along" and "you just can't appreciate grey morality" are not reason enough to make me ignore the massive, illogical discrepancy between the two depictions of the same guy. Fuck it, they're not reason enough for me to tolerate Hopes!Claude, because there is no rhyme, there is no reason, and there sure as HELL is no cause for me to feel for a Claude who does things without logic or thought.

I'm curious. That cape you always wear seems pretty heavy. Do you get tired wearing it all day?
I likely did in the beginning, however that was quite long ago. I am afraid I do not remember as of now. I have grown accustomed over the years, and I am no longer phased by such things. I do appreciate your concern, however.

You can understand and sympathize with one character and still disliking them and their morals.
reread that first statement. the emphasis lies on actively hating the other.
as in being willing to die on a hill shitting on them, reading takes from their fans in bad faith immediately, obsessively focusing on writing up metas about how bad and immoral and etc etc etc they are, and ending up sounding like a nationalist for a fictional country.
also I personally don't find fault with any of the lords for their morals. they're all a bunch of college-aged kids with extremely traumatic backgrounds trying to navigate an extremely fucked up continent and deal with the problems that have been dropped in their laps by generations past. they're all doing their best and working with the hand they've been dealt. each route is also semi-discrete bc byleth alters the course of it; the dimitri in CF is not the same as in AM and the edie in CF is not the same as in AM. you only get their "true" character, values, etc through 1. approaching their arcs/motives/charcters in good faith yourself, 2. picking apart each given iteration of a character, and 3. synthesizing it.
and yes, writing off one of them as just a character who Is Bad and You Don't Like is absolutely okay (not everyone needs to engage with media with the same level of analysis or obsessive interest), but it absolutely does make certain aspects of their narratives hit much less viscerally lmfao

Well because @twistedtrashposts wanted me too have this dumb Malleus scenario with reader.
✨"Okay but what if Lilia just like, walks in on Malleus and you showering because Lilia raised him so he's just chill about it but didn't realize you'd be there."
"Fucking gold."✨
🚩Some suggestive themes, nothing much though. 🚩
Enjoy. Idk give me more suggestions to write. I'll take Malleus (twisted wonderland), Dimitri (Fire emblem) or Alucard (Castlevaina) mainly.
Other people I simp for are
Sypha (Castlevaina), Tamaki (MHA), Elias (TMA), Ashe (Fire emblem), Kuro (Servamp), and probably more I am forgetting to mention.
It had been awhile since you and Malleus had private time together. College finals were coming and going as you two finished your semesters together. But finally you two got to spend alone time together. You debated what you should do together. You could have dinner together, see a movie, go hiking, a handful of amazing ideas you two would enjoy together.
Finally you two settled on something simple. Just a warm shower shared between the two of you. It has been awhile since you had been intimate and you two thought it would be nice just to spend some time together under the running water. Plus you liked Malleus shower so much more than your own so you would take any opportunity to shower in his bathroom.
You and Malleus had stripped yourselves of your clothes and simply stood in the water together. Sometimes this was all you needed with your relationship. You two were very simple with your needs and very vocal about your wants so you and Malleus worked well with each other. You both enjoyed just simply holding each other and letting the water run over the two of you.
But it was very short-lived when Malleus' paternal father, Lilia, stormed into the bathroom. You promptly let out a scream and hid behind Malleus to cover yourself, not expecting the male to just WALK right into Malleus' bathroom like he owned the place.
"Malleus-" He started but upon seeing you he quickly said your name not realizing you were there and apologized covering what part of your body wasn't covered by Malleus with his hand. "Stop screaming Malleus, I raised you." He said, you didn't even realize Malleus was screaming with you.
"I needed to remind you to study tonight for your potions final, you're really going to need it." Lilia said simply. He really barged into Malleus' bathroom while you two were both naked, even if it was just Malleus in the shower that would be awkward, just to remind Malleus about his final.
"Anyways you two have fun, but don't have too much fun because Malleus needs to pass, Tootles!" Lilia said quickly before waving his fingers and walking out of the bathroom, leaving you gripping Malleus' shoulder trying to make sense of what just happened and coming to terms with it.
"I think the moment has been ruined and I want to get out." You finally said after a few moments of silence.
"I agree." Malleus breathed, nodding his head, before grabbing towels for the both of you.

There's 10 more oc questions in an early reblog if you want to do those too ^_^
This is egregiously late, but I'm actually in the midst of fleshing out a set of 6 OCs and a full additive House to fe3h (as a treat). I'll definitely look at those questions and add them to my list!! This set in particular is amazing for character development even in the little ways!! Pennies make dimes dimes make dollars yk

Sexuality Headcanon: that boy is a pansexual through and through
Gender Headcanon: transmasc. he does not know where along the spectrum but he knows he likes he/him the best by far.
A ship I have with said character: mariashe but also ashelix has been consuming my brain lately.
A BROTP I have with said character: annette. they are best friends. they sit in each others dorms eating candy and gossiping. they would do anything for each other. the thought of kissing each other disgusts them both.
A NOTP I have with said character: petrashe. i don’t know why but i just hate it. i see it and am filled with unadulterated rage. if you ship it that’s fine but i personally can’t stand it.
A random headcanon: he likes to make his own arrows. it’s a hobby he picked up from christophe that turned into a coping mechanism.
General Opinion over said character: i love him. he has altered my brain chemistry. he consumes my every thought. he is The Blorbo.
