Every fandom gets a middle age. It's not defined by time. It's defined by the emergence of fics and art that explore hugely divergent What Ifs.

It's a growing rejection of the ironclad This Is How xyz Character Is, and a desire to explore something new. Maybe an idea that was always secretly thought about, but no one was confident enough before to risk.

A fandom's middle age is when there begins to be a shift away from 'But Canon?!' to 'What Canon.'

If a fandom can get through the initial need to keep replicating the same version of Canon (or as is more often the case, Fanon), this middle age often produces more interesting and dynamic and nuanced creations.

i get the last wish is all the rage and i get why, its a very good movie, but i gotta say, just catching the tail end of shrek 2 today reminded me quite firmly it was easily the one in the franchise i enjoy the most

what is kira's greatest fear?

Without a doubt, having their wings removed. They know their wings will grow back but it's not the fear of losing them forever that scares them. It's the pain, destabilization of their own magic, the effect it'd have on their vampirism, and the risk losing feeling in their wings and connected nerves that terrifies them.

Fairy wings are directly connected to the fairy's magic, it's why they're so highly sought after bc the magic in them is so pure and concentrated. They also have nerves that run across the entire fairy's back, sides, shoulders, and sometimes onto the chest as well, it's nearly impossible to remove wings without damaging most of those nerves.

So removing their wings wouldn't only be incredibly and unbearably painful, but it would be removing a cap of control that they have over their own magic. If they have iron on to suppress their magic, it'll still try to activate resulting in a variety of pains depending on what was attempted to be used. If their magic isn't being suppressed, they would have essentially wild magic. Random spells being cast, no control of what size they are, random teleportation, no control who over who is being the target of the spells meaning they can easily be the target of their own harmful magic, and that's just their fae magic.

It'd also effect their control over their vampirism, no more control of their venom when biting someone, complete loss of self control if they're blood deprived, their senses would be constantly heightened. If they're blood deprived with freshly removed wings they might resort to a feral like state, in all honesty.

It would exhaust them and they can't do anything to stop it unless they're allowed complete magic suppressants until their wings start to grow back. Once their wings start to grow back is when they're able to have control over their magic again. Due to the nerves being damaged, if their wings are removed too many times or if too many nerves are damaged with the first removal, they can lose complete feeling in their wings and the area around where the wings connect to their back. If they can't feel their wings then they can't safely fly, which is scary to them in it's own right.
