About Nucear Permanent Disposal Sites
Tumblr media
So, a couple of days ago someone commented under my one blog about nuclear energy what boiled down to: "But what about the waste? We need to take responsibility for the next thousands of years of humanity!" And yes, that is very much the favorite argument for the anti-nuclear lobby... and it is pretty much based on the science of the 1980s.
What a lot of people do not understand is:
How little nuclear waste we actually have.
How little of that waste is actually the highly radiating stuff.
How well we can contain this stuff.
That we actually have figured out a solution for permanent disposal.
Tumblr media
First need about nuclear waste you have to understand that most of it is not that dangerous. Most of the waste we get out of the nuclear facilities is actually just stuff that was around the radiation and got slightly radiated. 90% of all nuclear waste is stuff like items that just happened to be within the nuclear facilities for a long while. Tools, wortk clothing and so on. This stuff radiates, yes, but it is technically not dangerous levels AND it will stop doing so within 100 years max. We literally do not need to worry about it. Those yellow barrels you will keep seeing in old media that somehow end up mutating people? Yeah, those are used for this kind of waste. And to be quite frank, we are super extra that we store this either way. Because we have waste from other types of facilities (like coal power, but also from places like airport) where this kinda waste also happens and we... just throw it away normally.
Then there is about 7% of nuclear waste that is a bit more radiated. This is mostly metal parts and such that were in direct contact with the nuclear elements. This gets more radiated and as such will radiate for a longer time. But, this, too, is radation that will be gone or down to safe levels within a few centuries.
Only 3% is waste, that is high-level radiating and even from this not all will radiate for millennia! In fact we have gotten real good with recycling this high-level waste and if we are now talking SciFi scenarios like Solarpunk, we could actually just switch to thorium based reactors, where almost all of it is recyclable.
But... Even with the high level radiating stuff that we cannot recycle and need to permanently store, we... actually long have a solution for it.
Tumblr media
You have to realize that those fuel cells are actually pretty small. And that we have materials that can basically protect you from the radiation. So, we basically just take those small spend fuel cells, put them into glass, put that into several layers of metal, put all of that into a deep, deep hole the ground and then fill everything up with clay. And... done.
Chances are: Nobody is gonna find it. Because it is gonna be so deep underground. Even if they did: It is protected enough that nobody is gonna die of radiation poisoning directly. Not only that: But the best rock material to burry this stuff in, is already radiating. So... Like, duh. We already have super radiactive stuff in nature.
And even if someone got radiation poisoning... Unless you suppose that humans of the future are dumber than most animals... They will learn: "Dude died. Area bad. Do not dig there."
Scientifically speaking... The entire nuclear waste thing is such a fucking non-issue, that keeps getting pushed up mostly by fossil fuels (that, again, also produce radiating waste!) to keep folks from going for a full renewable + nuclear energy mix. Aka: The clean option.
The reason why so many politicians do not just agree to those disposal options is that a) they do not understand it themselves and b) nor do their constituents and there is sooooo much fearmongering about this going on.
Again, I am not saying that we should go full nuclear energy. But rather for an energy mix of renewables and nuclear. Be CO2 neutral. Because I can tell you one thing: If we do not do that, there are not gonna be humans in 3023 we have to worry about. Because they are all fucking dead, with the planet being inhospitable to life.

New Age and Christian conspiracy theorists alike both insist that they aren't trying to scare you; they're trying to inform you so that you can protect and liberate yourself. Both insist that it's the other people doing the fearmongering. Not them, though. They can't be fearmongering because they're doing it out of love.
Thing is, this is literally how fearmongering works. Fearmongering isn't about scaring people for the sake of scaring them. It's the stick in a carrot-and-stick deal - "you listen to me and do x, y, and z, and then you'll be safe."
If you've done your fearmongering right, your followers don't feel afraid at all. They feel protected and powerful.

Writers, I love you but you're not entitled to an audience.
People are not obligated to read your work just because you posted it. There's no malign, evil conspiracy destroying fandom at the seams because you didn't get engagement.
AO3 is an archive. It means you put stuff in it, so it will be preserved. It's not the systems fault that you decided it was the Validation Machine instead, and that you convinced yourself it's a transaction that's taking place: you put in words, you get validation. It's not. It's an archive. That's it. That's all it is.
Posting stuff and getting comments or kudos or bookmarks are two completely distinct and separate things. Stop listening to the monkey brain trying to force a correlation. You're smarter than that. You deserve to not live like that.
Writers, your audience owes you jackshit.
But hey, you owe them about the same, so take comfort in that.

A new version because I'm getting tired of repeating myself. Please go put concerted effort into learning about the Public Domain if you literally only heard about it four days ago. I am begging you.

[ID: A a cartoon version of Mickey Mouse’s head on a blue background. He has a white face and eyes, black fur, round ears, and an open mouth showing a buck tooth and a greyscale mouth. He is holding up one white-gloved hand and giving the middle finger, saying, "I can wear gloves, you just don't know how the Public Domain works!". Below him, black text reads, “Stop fearmongering on Disney’s behalf. You’re not even getting paid for it.”. End ID.]

testosterone hrt doesn’t ruin singing voices btw. cis dudes’ voices change and (fucking obviously) plenty of cis men are singers??? sure, T changes your vocal cords and the way your voice sounds/feels, but these are changes that you can work to adjust to. yet i know that as with any adjustment, it can seem easier to stop once change occurs. like i know when my voice drops and changes, i’m gonna sing through it, but for a bit i’m gonna be like “ew my voice keeps cracking mid note :(” but yk what? that will NOT discourage me from singing. if you sing through it - voice breaking and cracking and weird shifts and voice drops out of nowhere - you wind up with something beautiful! so, singers on testosterone hrt or even just singers going through puberty, sing through voice drops and voice changes.
p.s. i find that many singers on T, especially singers who have grown somewhat used to their pre-T singing voice, stop singing because it can be difficult to sing around voice changes. and then when they start again, their voices are not only tonally and pitch-wise different, but out of use. if you stop singing for a long period of time - and this doesn’t just go for hrt, it’s applicable in literally all cases - your voice is going to be rusty and not sound all that great once you start again.

I hate abc’s armchair medical investigators so much, all they do is fearmonger and advertise their product of choice. I’m listening to one of their reporters talk about TNFT, and the examples they use for how “dangerous” it is are two men who died- one was an addict and they didn’t say how many he took, and one took 12 pills at once.
I still have no idea what the risk level is for the average person because the only examples you gave are two people who engaged in high-risk behaviors using the drug. It’s blatant disinformation from what’s supposed to be a reputable news source.

TRAVIS: “Listen to me. That news that you watch every day is designed to terrify you. Because if it terrifies you, you drink more, you smoke more, you take more prescription drugs, and that financially benefits the same people who program the news. And yes, there are bad people out there with a crazy number of guns, but there are good people, too. Kind people, people who fight for justice and take care of their neighbours and build houses and plant trees and ignore the fearmongering or rise above it. So don’t waste your energy worrying you’re gonna get shot. Use it to fight for the world you want to be a part of. Use all that energy to make your fully functional legs lift you up out of this pee-stained suit and march you towards the world you want to live in!”
Okay, Travis Montgomery is awesome. He may just be my favourite male character in this entire show. That monologue was awesome. And it’s true… about the news. Nobody should ever watch the news because it’s never actually the truth of how anything really is. They emphasise to great effect just to terrorize you.
I’m not saying it doesn’t report factual events. I’m just saying they make those events way worse than they are and they do it purposefully to get a bad reaction.
Interesting how the show wants to bring awareness to that. I’m guessing the creators are fed up of bullshit and want to broadcast their views through their art/entertainment. Which is exactly what art itself is for.
I approve. Well done guys! 👍

There are times when thinking about how many youngsters/newcomers have been fearmongered away from practicing certain religions or worshipping certain deities by "not safe for beginners" and "trickster spirits" baloney horsefeathers makes me want to burn down the internet.

CGMs' from a doctor's perspective in non-diabetics-discussion. And my question about influencers who discuss "spikes" and the misinformation spread to those of us who use CGMs.
Came across this in another sub; many people use CGM's who do not have diabetes and it's an interesting discussion about how people use this info without having the background knowledge of one's own endocrine system. I see an increase in people coming into diabetes subs to discuss "spikes" or "spiking their insulin" and thought this video is quite relevant to that discussion. How people are turning to disordered eating, or not understanding the absolutely normal functions (up and down) of their own pancreas. Also, I'm looking at the sheer amount of "influencer" discussing "spikes" and then spreading misinformation. This part of the video discusses misinformation of CGM within non-diabetic populations. thought it was quite interesting!
The relevant sections should start around 4.40 mins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BUAIyGVlac&t=280s
EDIT: I think this is allowed in the sub-meant to be a discussion about CGM's and people without diabetes and how it can cause anxiety in people. If not allowed let me know. I am T1 and have heard these types of comments in real life, and them trying to compare their (non T1) data to mine etc.
Edit 2: the rest of the video is not relevant to this discussion. The CGM discussion is 4.40 to about 11 minutes.
I don't have the spoons to say much about this myself right now, but would also recommend the video link. I'm all for people doing whatever the hell they want with their own bodies--and everyone having access to the necessary technology!
But, things really have gotten this goddamn ridiculous with the fearmongering aimed at the conscientious walking worried well, feeding (haha!) straight off our society's fucked-up relationship with food and pervasive ableism. With such a variety of lucrative quackery attached to it. It's honestly pretty distressing to think about.

White people?
Endangered?
No.
No I think not.
No they aren’t!
You just THINK they are because colonial shitheads like Elon Musk, paranoid bloggers, terminally divorced middle aged mediocrities with YouTube channels, tabloid papers, Fox “News”, useful idiots from nonwhite communities what have been brainwashed into thinking they’re part of a so called master race, ghastly think tanks, and far right European fascist PIGS like to pretend that it is so.
Because they have a persecution fetish!
They want to feel like they are in danger.
An empire pretending to be a rebellion.
(A lot of these categories can and will overlap btw)
It is NOT so!
What do you think you are?
Some kind of threatened Ganges River Dolphin?!
For fuckness’ sake!
Get in the bin with that shite!
Keep that Apartheid crap and siege mentality bullshit thinking in the past where it belongs!
Starting yesterday!
