Some highlights from a tense but still very Winterkov-y scene (Patreon)

#Doodles #Adventure Time #Fionna and Cake #Simon Petrikov #Winter King #Winterkov #The first five are all in sequence and then from there it's a bit sporadic #I dunno if this is one I'm gonna finish by they did both turn out very cute so I wanted to show some of them off lol #It's mostly a headcanon comic about how they differ in attractions (basically how much influence the Crown has on Winter) #I initially compared Winter to a slightly more chill Bill Cipher - a non-human entity inhabiting a human body #Probably tempered by how much Simon is still left over - not a lot but even a little does make a difference! #In that there's a lot of things the Crown might get out of a human body while still experiencing an entirely alien interpretation of stimuli #It's all just a lot of character analysis headcanon stuff lol - the Winterkov is still the main focus! Here anyway lol #I am very endeared at the idea posited by some fanfic writers that inviting Simon to the lab was just a pretense lol #He /did/ have to get out of his clothes before getting into new ones lol #They really do both have such lovely designs ah <3 They're fun to draw! #This was a lot of settling into them - I love the little floof-lifts that Winter has from Simon #His hair is long but it's still not completely able to weigh itself down from his voluminous bob! Very cute #The nose ears and shape of Winter's glasses really set him apart but their similarities are so fun #And while it's not featured here Simon's shy little smiles vs. Winter's big and loud expressions! Their contrasting features are so neat! #Very enjoyable character design

MURDER DRONES HEADCANON #1: the EVIL mode (aka X3)

[Both Uzi and N are inside the broken landing pod. Uzi's sitting on a spinning chair, tapping her fingers, eyeing a glitching screen. N is on the floor besides another chair. He makes it spin with one hand and watches it go.]

+ So... 

- [Pushes chair to make it spin quicker.] Mhm?

+ [Turning slowly to N, not looking at him. Not too happy about his lack of attention.] What's up with the... 

- [Stops chair. Tilts head back and to his left, looking at Uzi.] Mmmmmhm?

+ [As she talks, her eyes escape to the side, opposite to N.] Creepy... Murder face?

- Uh... [Keeps tilting his head back, eventually becoming a semicircle.] Oh! This thing!

[In a split second, N is upright and facing Uzi. A wide X crosses his visor and his jaw hangs fully open. Intermittent cackles escape his mouth as his claws extend.]

[Uzi is still looking away, distracted by some line of text briefly visiting the broken screen. A slow, calm turn to her left gets interrupted by shock: she reels backward.]

+ ROBO-JE-- [Nearly falling.]

- SHI- Sorry! Oh, sorry sorry sorrysorrysorry- [Reaches out to hold Uzi's hand. Fumbles with claws trying not to cut her arm, only half succeeding in holding her before he retracts them.]

+ Did- Did you HAVE to do the oil-sucking laugh?! [Slaps N's hand off.] Does EVERYONE ELSE have one of those?!!

- Ye- No! That's just kinda... How it works. [Retreating slightly, then overtly, scratching back of head.] Heh! Heh. Sorry.

+ [With both hands to the sides of her head: exasperated.] How it... What does that mean? Does the creepy face come in the same package or is it just funny to you?!

- I've never really thought it through. It makes me feel funny I guess! [Crouches and reaches to empty chair with one hand, pushing it to spin a little.] Now, if you'd excuse me--

+ No! [Holds chair from spinning with right hand. The other aims directly at N's face.] I need answers! Makes you feel funny HOW?!

- Lots of questions today, heh! I... Doooon't... Eh- Know? [Tries to push chair again. Uzi's hand is still in the way.]

+ [Left hand goes down to her knee.] N. I'm always asking you questions. 

[Brief silence.] 

- It's like things get really fuzzy for a bit. [Looking at chair, then pushing it again. Uzi pulls her hand back, and it spins a little before stopping.] Taking a bit of a back seat, I guess. Things happen on their own and I'm always having a laugh about it. 

+ [Excited. Pointing up with left hand: eureka!] Ah! And you only do that when you're about to...! [Stops herself to look at N and left hand goes down: he's curling up with his hands over his knees, looking away from her.] What's wrong?

- It's creepy... But it's what we're stuck with.

[Silence.]

+ Sorry. 

[Silence.]

+ I won't ask again, alright?

[Silence. Uzi looks back to the screen, and lets out a low sigh.]

- I think that's why V is the way she is.

+ [Quickly turning.] You mean all the... Murder?

- Yeah. She was shy before. Then she started laughing a whole lot.

+ I'm sorry. [Reaches out to grab N's shoulder, but regrets it and pulls back. He doesn't notice.] She didn't choose that. Or you.

- Don't be. It's alright. 

[N turns to smile at Uzi. She smiles back.]

NOTES:

The evil X3 mode is a design feature that automates combat. It also rewards with robo-endorphins when they're doing EVIL SHIT and KILLING or something. In the short term, this makes them behave a lot more like laughing villains; doing hilariously evil shit and laughing maniacally when killing as a reflex.

Obviously this is because the MDs already have personalities, so to do their job they need to be steered in the long term -- and this fucks them up mentally like any drug would. It breaks V's shyness and makes her more of a deranged extrovert, while feeling like she's not really in control. It makes J more of an open shitbag. N just goes numb and lets go.

Over time, it kinda drives them insane; this is because it's a hack job.

They repurposed AI that wasn't designed to do this or be bent that far.

Answering your questions and comments! Pt2

This is for most of the anon questions I got! 

I actually haven’t considered that! Part of me wanted to say accents aren’t a thing in Unova, but then I remembered the infamous nugget bros...and their catchphrase “nuggetabout it!” It just makes me wish every single character in Unova was heavily accented in all variations. But to answer the question, I haven’t given it any thought at all so I can’t say! 

I’ve answered this before I think? But my point remains the same. My art of them features them exclusively in a platonic way!  However, I don’t mind the ships, and I don’t mind people seeing it in such a way. I get comments all the time where people joke about “Elesa and her two malethings + her gf Skyla” Hell even I joke about it sometimes. But it’s all in good fun. 

I love all this Ramses love. He IS the best and you’re both 100% correct!!

OKAY. I’ll be cynical for a second: From what I’ve noticed (this is a small observation, not a factoid) I think a lot of submas fans are new to Pokemon…so are maybe not used to gamefreak being huge disappointments yet. 😩 in my experience, they tend to drop lore or plot points and then ignore them for years.

I have no expectations for the sake of not getting my hopes up for nothing. ;-; though, it would be wonderful considering the themes. Even a subtle nod would make the submas tag trend on twitter without a doubt LOL

Hahah, I haven’t really given it much thought, but I genuinely believe that three of them are some of the toughest trainers in Unova. I would say they got far enough to reach victory road. The twins’ talent speaks for themselves being battle facility bosses, but Elesa is nothing to sneeze at either. Since i like to HC them as childhood friends, it only feels fitting that Elesa was not only able to keep up with the twins, but probably bested them several times.

Maybe some daaaayyy….i love Adaman’s design (even if wayyy to many of the charcters are wayyy to pale eeergh)

Im always thinkin to myself i need to have comic ideas in order to draw certain characters. But I forget I can just … draw them……without giving them a reason to be. SO maybe someday haha! Im glad you like the way I drew him though lol!

It’s not so much that its canon (don’t believe much has been confirmed about them except they are clown inspired and have receding hairlines) but it’s apparent and obvious. I would dare say it’s not even debatable, but with these sort of headcanons, you have to consider that the people that feel strongly about it are more likely autistic themselves and therefore know more about the subject.

I recommend reading posts by @/1863-project! They go into detail about every detail and honestly it’s allowed me to learn a lot about how to write the characters!

Im not very fashion forward myself, but I try to have fun with it. And when I draw them, i have unspoken hc for when they dressed themselves or when Elesa had an opinion.

I did draw them doin the based ball once…

But honestly, I don’t particularly think any of them is huge on sports apart from maybe getting excited by extension.

Personally. I don’t think either of them gets mad often. Frustrated, annoyed, and cranky maybe…but all the way angry?

Kind of interesting to think about. I’m unsure if I’d describe it as scary. More so intimidating because it’s so rare to witness!

I’m reminded of how passively Ingo handled Melli’s fuckery…his customer service voice fell back in time with him. It can be attributed to his politeness, but it certainly takes a great level of patience. So yeah, honestly, I think Ingo would never allow anyone to see him completely angry. Similarly for Emmet, even though he does tend to be more expressive.

hey so can you imagine the designs on AI Turo's armor(?) glowing softly? I was kinda sad they didn't actually glow in the game.

Ah, yes! I first read about it on a translation someone made of his character sheet. It's quite sad how it's left a bit vague in the game itself. My take is that they didn't want him to show some extra features Sada wouldn't have, which is fair to be honest.

I have my own headcanons about the lights, even explaining how Turo came up with them in the first place. I assume their primary function would be to indicate how much charge is in the AI's robotic body, so basically they would simply start fading with time, eventually switching off when he's out of power.

But the silliest headcanon I have is that they can change color according to his emotions (for example, they turn red if he's embarrassed), making up to his inability to blush, or sweat or cry etc...

I'm accepting takes on what color means what, let's have fun!

Hello! I noticed the lovely user @puzzleshipping-library​ is trying to compile all the wonderful Puzzleship works from across the cosmos... A truly tricky task indeed. I thought I’d pitch in to help out, but when I went through my favorites tab I realized I uh... had way too many to list for their inbox HAHAHA

So I then said “Ah screw it” compiled them all here! This is a list of some of my personal favorites from our old (and sometimes gold) friend, FFnet, the root of many an older fanfiction writer. Because let’s be real, AO3′s spoiled us all rotten with their tagging system so we no longer got the time to scavenge through people’s ‘Favorite Stories’ and ‘Favorite Authors’ tab to find something decent. So instead, I scavenged through said tabs for you, and picked some stuff I thought was great. 

Some notes before you go on though!

All fics listed are SFW, with some minor exceptions (ie.- some might have swearing, others may refer to and/or have death, others might imply smut)

Fics are listed alphabetically, and are tagged with their rating and whether its Pre-Relationship, Platonic, Romantic, either, or both. Summaries are also written.

He may be broken, but he'd be damned if he let someone like Haga get in his way of saving his partner. If he could just hold onto his sanity a while longer... The train duel from the Orichalcos arc from the Pharaoh's point of view.

It’s as it says on the tin, one designed to collect your tears. And because of that, it’s just as harrowing as you can imagine.

Between Meats and Cheeses by fioare [Rated K, can be Platonic or Romantic]

Yami just wanted to make a sandwich, but all of Japan seemed to have it out for him.

Ahhh the classic ‘Yami Yugi/Atem has a body’ fic feat. a fun scenario, a good light-hearted read!

Can’t Teach An Old Pharoah New Tricks by Crystia [Rated K+, can be Platonic or Romantic]

Yugi tries to teach a 3000-year-old Pharaoh how to text.

This hits the ‘Pharoah can’t modern technology’ trope really well, while still not making him out to be a total fool. A good fic to read if you want a laugh!

Desk Partners by meganeyun [Rated K, Pre-Relationship, Platonic]

"With five empty chairs, Yugi was sure taking one of them wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience to the sleeping student. He quietly pulled the chair nearest him, which took the right corner of the table while the stranger took the left."

A different first meeting between Yuugi and Atemu (I know that’s not how you spell it but I find that spelling cute ok? I use Atemu and Atem interchangably) in the modern era, where Atemu’s a fellow student in Domino High. A cool way to explore their initial relationship.

Dusky Jacinth by Ocean [Rated K+, can be Platonic or Romantic, also features Shadows/Yami Yuugi]

The Shadows have never had to fear competition. But now they find that they do indeed have a competitor when it comes to Yami's affection. It is a cold night for Yuugi when the Shadows confront him. 

A fic that features the very interesting headcanon of the shadows in the Puzzle being somewhat sentient, and thus unwilling to share when it comes to the Pharoah. The Puzzleship isn’t as strong in this one, but I like the concept of the fic itself a lot so I thought might as well XD (Banjodog, the one who thought of this idea, also wrote some more fics for it feat. the other Millenium Items. Go check it out if you’re interested!)

Game Over by Maiden of the Moon [Rated T, Platonic, specifically Father/Son Relationship]

Up until that point, he was unsure about fatherhood... which was a nice way of saying he didn't think it was for him. But then his little son was brought out to him, cleaned and wrapped and beautiful.

A very adorable Ancient Egypt AU fic where Pharoah Atemu raises his little son Heba (Yuugi). Its ending however might sweep you from under the rug, so proceed with caution...

Nothing like an afternoon of blowing things up to relieve stress.

In-Canon AU fic feat. Spirit Yami that can go corperal and video games. I see this one as more of a visage during the more calmer moments of the boys’ lives.

My take on what might have happened during Atem's captivity in the Puzzle.

Early-Canon AU, fic is it says on the tin, and a very high-quality tin at that. More Atemu-centric, but Yuugi’s mentioned constantly, where we get to see how an ancient pharaoh would eventually become the Spirit of the Millennium Puzzle.

How We Connect by RadioZenn [Rated T, can be Platonic or Romantic]

He shouldn't feel this way. Not when everything was so beyond ok. When everything was so wonderful. This didn't make sense. [cross-posted from my AO3 account]

freshly Post-Canon AU, where Yuugi tries to deal with emptiness in his head after Atem/Yami gets his own body after the Ceremonial Duel. It almost feels bittersweet, in a way, but I think that’s the author doing a good job at capturing Yuugi’s emotions in that moment.

Laughter by DragonDancer5150 [Rated K, can be Platonic or Romantic]

If laughter is the best medicine, it's no wonder Aibou is rarely sick," Yami mused. And his aibou's laughter was bright enough to cure just about any ailment. It certainly did wonders for the spirit's oft-heavy heart.

In-Canon AU, a shorter fic that’s about laughter and the differences between spirit and vessel. However it’s effective in getting the message across, and I love the way the author writes them both ^^

Metanoia by TheOccasionalOne [Rated T, Pre-Relationship]

Yami Atemu doesn't believe in magic or destiny, much less that he's the reincarnation of some ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Yugi Motou is determined to change his mind. 

Oooh, a Role Reversal-esque AU! Now, Yami’s the sort-of ‘normal one’ and Yuugi’s the one bearing news of “Hey uh, you and I are kinda special, and we’ll need to go on an adventure for it :)” Note though this fic discusses mental instability a lot due to this Yami’s background, so proceed with caution.

Name by Mitsuye-san [Rated K+, Pre-Relationship, Romantic]

Atem is ten when his soulmate’s name appears.

A beautiful but bittersweet fic feat. Ancient Egypt and Soulmates AU. Atemu’s love and struggle feels impactful, even if we know how his story’s going to end...

Revision Techniques by Serah Villiers [Rated K, Romantic]

Yuugi is revising for his exams; but a certain spirit requires attention.

A fun little story where Yami’s being petulant and Yuugi is forced to deal with it. If you want a more cuter take on the pharoah, then this fic might be for you!

Sensations by Higuchimon [Rated T, Pre-relationship, Romantic]

He could only know his boy by the touches on the Puzzle. But he knew that whoever it was that was putting it together was his. And no one harmed what was his.

And finally, something for Season Zero! It specifically takes place from pre-canon to Chapter 2 of the Manga. I love the author’s way of describing Yami here as well, in all his delightfully deranged and possessive glory.

Seperation Anxiety by RadioZenn [Rated T, can be Romantic or Platonic, but like they’re def soulmates in this one lol]

What would it be like, to go from existing almost completely within someone's mind, in their heart and next to their soul, and then be ripped from it all and expected to function normally on their own? Can one even go through what he's been through without repercussions?

Author states they have separation anxiety, so they decided to apply it to little Yami here. And honestly, I can see that being a thing, especially with all they’ve been through... an interesting read nonetheless!

Snooze by AlwaysYourAibou [Rated K, Pre-Relationship, can be Platonic or Romantic]

Yami looked at the street below, his mind piecing together what happened. He growled slightly. He truly hated everything about the objects in this new world.

Early-Canon AU! If you like stories where Yami discovers the wonders and woes of the world while still trying to protect his Aibou, then here’s the fic for you~

Stand Up or Fall Down by Nicole Silverwolf [Rated K, can be Platonic or Romantic]

Volunteering to sleep under the stars sounded macho but in reality he'd been desperate to escape the oppressive air in the trailer. Honda-centric.

Set in Season 4, so get ready. A bit of a different one from the rest, but the Pharaoh’s perspective’s included, and Honda/Tristan tries to help him pick up the pieces after what happened with Raphael. 

The Dark of his Madness by Dib07 [Rated T, Pre-Relationship, Romantic]

Yet Yugi daren't ask this 'other presence.' It gave him goosebumps just thinking about interacting with this spirit, even if this spirit was harmless to him. There was something psychotic: something indiscernible and abysmal in this spirit's eyes. And it frightened him. It reminded him of crypts, chasms into hell: other worlds damned by God. He'd rather not look at those eyes.

Early-Canon AU Puzzleshipping. Yami’s Not Doing So Hot™, and Yuugi’s not too sure how to proceed with him, but whatever it is that’s going on, he’s making sure they can go forward together. Note that this fic features depictions of gore and nightmares and general Not Good Things, because again, Yami Ain’t Doing So Hot™.

The Day We Lost by Ocean [Rated T, Romantic]

How does it feel when you realize that you have lost your best friend? How do you react at that moment? When the situation is out of your hands? Anzu has to come to terms with the fact that she has lost her chance with Yuugi.

In-Canon AU, takes place during the Duke/Otogi DDM battle. As it says on yet another high-quality tin. I’m a big fan of this one because it scratches my particular favorite Puzzleship dynamic, (I like omoyami, which basically means top!Yuugi HAHAHA) and a bonus, it features a different Yuugi from canon!

Yami, Pine, Mint & ReadyBrek by Borath [Rated K, can be Platonic or Romantic]

When Yugi oversleeps, Yami decides to take over and get ready for school for him. For a very old spirit in a very modern world, it was all doomed to go terribly wrong from the start. From Yami’s perspective.

In-Canon AU. Ok, you know how most writers go like “I tried to be funny” for their fics? Now, this fic, hands down, made me howl when I first read it. Hilarious and over-the-top, in very Yugioh fashion. If you need a pick-me-up, this one’s for you!

Multi-Chapter (Completed)

A Compendium of Magic, Violence, and Love by Pr3cIoUs [OVERALL Rated T, Ranges between Platonic to Romantic]

A collection of drabbles and mini-ficlets following the lives, loves, and sorrows of Puzzleshipping.

I say this is ‘Completed’ because 90% of the fics contained are finished relatively cleanly. But overall, I like the various ideas and AUs the author throws around here; they’re all fun in their own little way! Do note that some of the chapters may be rated M, hence my rating tag. 

An Alphabet of Puzzleshipping by Auster [OVERALL Rated T, mostly Romantic]

A collection of twenty-six Puzzleshipping drabbles, from angst to fluff and from AU to Canon. Now features up to 27 extra bonus drabbles!

Similar situation with the first, with it being a one-shot collection. These fics also feature various AUs and scenarios, and one of them even got expanded into a proper fic, which I also reccomended below~

Bittersweet and Strange by Erik’s Champion [Rated K+, Romantic]

Season 0 & Beauty & the Beast-inspired AU. The Pharaoh's pendant was their only hope of salvation: if he could learn to love another, and earn their love in return, the Pendant could be reassembled and his memories would be restored. But as the eons passed, the Pharaoh's heart receded into darkness, and they gradually lost all hope. For who could ever love the embodiment of despair?

A compelling fic that does the crossover very well, in that it only really takes the elements of Beauty and the Beast, and puts it into YGO in such a way that it still makes sense. However, while the Puzzleshipping is good, I love this because of the various character interactions! Very reminiscent of the Disney movie, and very good at balancing the tender moments with the funny ones.

Do You Dream of Me? by Laryna06 [Rated T, Platonic to Romantic]

What if Yugi could sense Yami's feelings and thoughts all the time too? A rewrite of their adventures. Mangacentric. 

A complete rewrite of the first 7 volumes of the YGO manga, featuring a completely different dynamic between Yuugi and Yami -- namely, due to the former saving him from the Puzzle, Yami becomes a devoted servant, seeing himself as ‘second’ to his Master. It’s a bit of a guilty-pleasure fic personally, but from all the ones I’ve read, this is hands down, my absolute favorite :D

Predestination by S.E. Mellark [Rated T with implications of M, Romantic]

When Atem was just two years old, a peasant and his wife from the lower district of Memphis gave him a gift that, for a long while, the prince could not appreciate.

Ancient Egypt AU where Yuugi’s brought in as a slave for a very young Atem. The story deals with their lives as they grow older, alongside the dangers that grow alongside them. A mix between lovely and angsty, it’s got the bonus Top!Yuugi esque-dynamic (because I like indulging myself) and a surprise ending. So proceed with caution...

The Book Corner by Pr3cIoUs [Rated M, but the content doesn’t actually go that far, there’s just a lot of implications. Romantic]

Yami's problem was that the list of his relationships contained his friendship with Jou, coffee beans, and books. He just didn't understand people. So it's not surprising that when Yuugi walks into his shop, Yami's in for one hell of a crash course.

This fic’s by far the spiciest one in this collection, but I tentatively added it in because personally, it doesn’t hit the M rating for me. Also, I technically cheated because... it’s not marked complete. HAHAHA but! I placed it here because it left the impression of a sequel instead of a next chapter, and it’s complete enough that I think it can stay here. Regardless, it’s a great romantic comedy, with a hilarious ending! Essentially, go read it for a different taste of the Puzzleshipping cake :D

Zoom Lens by Auster [Rated T, Romantic]

Code Name: Neko 5000 by Egyptian Dreamer [Rated T but contains gore, Pre-Relationship]

A rich businessman creates a hybrid by combining the DNA of an ancient Pharaoh and the DNA of felids. His creation wasn't supposed to have a mind of its own, but it does, and escapes into the streets of Domino. With a killing intent too great and too out of control, the hybrid doesn't hesitate to take down all those that meet its path, until it stumbles upon a boy being bullied.

Ok fine another guilty-pleasure one. Look, I love this AU. It’s everything I didn’t know I wanted. First, you got nekos; a classic for long-time fanfiction lovers. But then you got killer nekos, and they’re basically feral destructive machines who... have a strange love for people who look like them. Thrilling, destructive (In that Yami’s put his Season Zero setting to absolute max) and overall so fascinating, it’s worth reading for the horror aspect alone :D

Do You Dream of Me?: Duelist by Angel’s Nocturne [Rated T, Romantic]

Sequel to Do You Dream Of Me? by Laryna6. Read that first. What if Yugi and Yami were bonded before Duelist Kingdom? A rewrite of their adventures, starting at Duelist Kingdom. YYY JM BR SS, Mangacentric

A sequel written by another author for my most favorite fic ever! They did a pretty good job in blending canon with Laryna06′s canon, while adding in their own flair and tidbits. And I love how the dynamics and general situations change up due to Yami being a stronger presence than usual. Well-done, and quite long in spite of it all!

Misconstrued by SilentSpeaker13 [Rated T, Platonic with Romantic implications]

Aibou- def: partner. It's an innocent enough term until Yami makes an accidental slip of the tongue. Hints of Puzzleshipping, pure rediculous born of watching the slashy goodness that is Yu Gi Oh! 

“Aibou? What does that mean? Sounds kinda gay...” is the best YGOTAS quote I can use for this fic. Yami’s endearingly dramatic, Yuugi’s entertainingly dramatic, and their friends are just cackling from the sidelines. It’s also technically complete, but since the writer didn’t mark it as such, it’s under this category. 

Sympathetic Magic by The Naked King and A Perplexing Puzzle [Rated T, can be Platonic or Romantic]

Two alike objects share a powerful bond. For Yuugi Mutou that becomes particularly true when he is whisked away to Ancient Egypt through means he doesn't understand and meets the one person in the world he trusts most; but this is not Nameless Pharaoh, this the God King of Ancient Egypt...

This fic didn’t go on long enough for me to see the shipping personally, but the dynamic between Yuugi and Pharaoh Atem was still an absolute treat. This fic’s also got my most favorite iteration of pre-Puzzle Sealed Atem in all of ever, being equal parts commanding yet unsure of his position as Pharaoh. A great read that, even unfinished, doesn’t leave off at too bad of a spot!

It’s quite obvious what it’s about ne? Still, I like how their different personalities work in this AU, Atem’s an adorable bean and Yuugi’s a cool badass XD Plus, it’s hard to go wrong with WALL-E, yknow? It’s super long too, so even unfinished, I think there’s enough content to give you some fun!

Reasons why Judar is queer-coded

Alright. I guess this is finally a good time for me to write what I have wanted to for quite a while. Here, I will go through five points as to why a lot of people in the Magi fandom headcanon Judar as gay, bi, or other form of not-straight. It is a very common headcanon, to the point of being quite funny: it is one of the very few things that Tumblr and 4chan seem to agree on to a large part. Compulsory “not everyone, of course” disclaimer here.

I would also like to note that this is not a list of “Judar is canonically gay and here’s the proof”. This is a list of what are the things that have motivated people to headcanon him as queer. One thing to remember is: Judar has never shown canonical romantic or sexual interest in anyone. Not a man, not a woman. That gives us the possibility to inspect the situation from multiple angles.

First, let’s go through the obvious. His appearance. Long hair and jewellery are common for men in Magi, but not even Magi men wear make-up (Fatima doesn’t count, he’s trying to mimic a woman–Madaura–with his look, after all). We also know that Judar’s clothes aren’t exactly the norm in the Magi world either: Yunan specifically points them out, asking Judar if it wasn’t time for him to wear something “less flashy”.

Judar’s appearance has the type of look we could easily call “queer-coded”. It could, however, also be interpreted as “villain-coded”. I’ll explain. In the past, some decades ago, when it wasn’t quite acceptable to portray queer characters on screen, and definitely not heroic queer characters, creators got past this by adding queer-like features on the villains instead. Disney is quite known for this. Ursula was designed after a drag queen. Look at the movements of characters like Scar: they are swaying, maybe somewhat theatrical or feminine; not how good characters like Mufasa move. You can add many other villains in this as well, think about Aladdin’s Jafar, his way of carrying himself, way of speaking, the uh eyeliner. These are features that we might see and immediately recognize: ah, this character is the villain! But the fact is that the source of these villain character design tropes is queerness, and the fact that a villainous role was the only place where queerness was socially accepted to be portrayed.

This brings us to the topic of Japanese-created media. Thanks to works known worldwide, just like Disney movies, these queer-coded tropes have become known all over the world… as villain tropes. It is impossible to say if Judar’s design is supposed to convey the impression that “this character is a villain” and thus be accidental queer-coding. I can’t really think of any other male villain, or male character in Magi in general, having got the same treatment. Therefore, I think it’s also reasonable to ponder what that appearance could message about Judar’s character. Reading it was queer-coding is not unreasonable at all.

Second, we have Judar’s role in the story itself. Judar’s story revolves around multiple characters, but none so striking as his obsessions. There are two characters whom Judar was quite obsessed with in different parts of the story: Sinbad and Hakuryuu. Of course, this is portrayed as interest as King Vessels. Judar has many King Vessels, however, but none of them have caused such obsessiveness level chasing from Judar except for those two. Needless to say, they are male characters. One source for people’s headcanoning him as queer comes from the fact that he spends time chasing after multiple male characters in the story, but never quite expresses same level of interest in any female characters.

Third, and I think this is the most “concrete” as “evidence” goes: Judar simply saying that he’s not interested in a girlfriend as he thinks women are boring. He’s speaking from experience: to Alibaba’s dismay, it turns out Judar was not a rookie on that front and could get anyone in the court he wanted (so spoiled!) This could be read in multiple ways, of course. Maybe he is default straight and just not interested in a relationship. But there are queer readings that could be done to it as well. Maybe he is bi as he has had experience with women too. Maybe he had his experience and didn’t enjoy it, figuring out he’s ace. Or maybe he’s just plain gay, finding out women were boring but maybe men weren’t. (I think the bi one used to be the most common in the fandom for quite a while, once upon a time).

Fourth, we have something that’s been brought up by people for many years: Judar’s character profiles. Here, we are talking about guidebooks and such. As it turns out, Judar is one of the very few characters whose “interest” in others has never been gendered. When male characters are asked for their favourite and least favourite type, they respond with “x kind of woman” and “y kind of woman”. Same thing goes for female characters, describing their favourite or least favourite type of man. Judar is one of the few instances where these are marked with gender neutral language: “strong/weak guys”. Note here the gender neutral “guys” (yatsu). Usually, the characters have at least one category marked with a specific gender, while for Judar, both are gender neutral. While not the only time this happens in the profiles, it is one of the few.

And finally, we get to the best part, that is, historical-cultural analysis. As we all know, Judar is from the Kou Empire. And the Kou Empire is based on ancient China. It is very clear that the mangaka did a lot of research about ancient China for different cultural, clothing, etc references. Judar is also a big fan of peaches. We see him eat them on panel and talk about them. It is way more references than we ever get to any other character’s favourite food. Even in Judar’s first introduction with a name, he is biting into a peach. There are also half-eaten peaches around him.

Do you know what “bitten peach” or “halved peach” is a term for in ancient Chinese literature? Male homosexual relations.

Alone, none of these points would really mean anything. However, when put together, they do, in my opinion, form a basis for a valid queer reading for the character for anyone who wishes to do so. It almost makes me question could all of it really have been a coincidence on Ohtaka’s part. Speaking of which.

I know a typical reaction to theories like this is “Japan is different. They don’t think about these things in Japan” which I can easily prove false in Magi’s case. Not only do we have both gags and traumatic situations in the story acknowledging the existence of same-sex relations (think of the scene of Sinbad and Mystras going to a brothel in Artemyra for the gag part). But in addition to those, the mangaka quite literally posted a comic on her blog of Pisti and Sharrkan taking Spartos to meet the trans community of Sindria (whom, as it turns out, Aladdin had met as well). In light of these, I don’t think it’s reasonable to claim that “the mangaka is Japanese so she knows nothing about any western LGBTs!”

And there is my list of reasons why a lot of people in the fandom tend to headcanon Judar as queer based on the arguments I’ve seen from people over the years. It extends way further than “I ship him with a male character, therefore”. I’d also like to mention that straight is not the default setting of characters or people. Judar is not any more proven in canon to be straight than he is proven to be any other sexuality.

my man dansleif is honestly a quiet man, and if you've done the quests where he's included in and thinks otherwise I will fight you.

he knows he's less... talkative than most individuals but perhaps that's because he just doesn't see a reason to speak unless needed. after all the centuries he's lived through, blending within the shadows and speculating from it is practically his moto.

dansleif greatly appreciates and even admires the times where you can easily twist conversations into your advantage, with a relaxed demeanour and a coy smile. victims come barrelling in your trap, simply by your talent with words.

but even so, he hesitates with telling you all about the times he and lumine travelled the same journey aether is currently partaking in, you would no doubt be terrified of the fact that she's five hundred years older than the last time you'd seen her. dansleif can see where lumine gets her confidence from, her eyes and playful arrogance were all inherited from you. he knows he can't tell. not right now atleast.

you're just as mischievous as her, and it sends him on a rollercoaster of nostalgia. travelling with you is certainly something... at times, he's a silent man left with his thoughts that just leaves him at a loss because why does his cold face feel warm? there's the feeling of tingles spreading across his skin and the feeling of serenity ever so present when he sees your smile.

dansleif can't help but let himself fall into daydreams of being into your arms. maybe with you wrapping your arms around him like a cocoon he can fall asleep in knowing that he is loved, to further explain: it's like a teenage girl that's afraid of the dark suddenly being brave enough to conquer her fears once her hand is tightly grip onto the one that she loves the most.

he knows he won't be accepted, thrown away and casted aside just like lumine did once she was faced with the heavenly principles that your family simply cannot escape from just as kharen'riah couldn't, like a curse of some sorts. fate had already designed your family's fate and there is no turning back.

the fuck when did I become so poetic, go away sad headcanons. 😿

anyways, you and dansleif huh.. aether just doesn't like this at all, he and dansleif probably made an agreement to not tell you anything about lumine out of worry. plus, he doesn't know whatever happened after dansleif promptly sped through that portal so it's natural that he's suspicious.

in short, aether doesn't trust dansleif one bit. not after he lied about lumine.

hm.. let's make it more lively! in the next featured headcanons are just about after the travelers finally reunite!

ah let's see, as the relationship progresses, it'll become more open? he'll trust you enough to share his own stories and experiences when you've both encountered enough together.

and I totally agree with him recieving side glances from the twins! lumine's being a lot more less since she's known him throughout the climax of her journey, thus she trusts him more than aether. speaking of the other twin, with dain practically being stuck on your hip like a clueless child starved for her mothers love, he's bound to get used to the man.

he's incredibly stiff when it comes to affection, even paimon has to step in to tell him to relax his shoulders and tense statue! you didn't seem to mind so he didn't really notice. :c he's internally beating himself up for not not noticing that he's like a rock when being hugged sooner. 😭

this relationship is basically sakura and sasuke, that's so fucking cute omg. the thing these men have in common is that their lover is really.. scary? when faced with a situation that turns your mind into a desperate jumble, your first instict is to assess before attacking head on.

you might be asking, why did I include sasuke and sakura? that's because I want to show you how dansleif and yours will be like! a strong headed woman who won't hesitant to beat your ass if you mess with her loved ones and her quiet pacific spouse that will absolutely destroy you if you even hurt her.

....yeahhh.... he's the damn twilight sword I will fight you again if you think that he's weak, man literally restrained an abyss herald with a raise of his hand?? and his unknown power that seems really strong depsite it being displayed for like a minute or two

the abyss is no more, so dansleif is basically just a man with nothing to do. he just passes time with your company, he's seen tevyat grow with his own eyes. so he's bound to catch a couple tricks about love!

overall a very wholesome relationship, the trio will eventually learn that even with their distrust, dansleif just genuinely sees you as his home.

even with a couple of ups and downs, both of you will find yourselves seeking out the other. no matter how hard he tries to bury the love within, it will rise once more.

I'm working on designs for the Ainur. While doing that, I end up forming headcanons that contribute to the designs, then the headcanons start going out of hand... hence the comics.

Design Notes: Melkor

I imagined Melkor at first as a walking suit of armor, like Sauron in the movies. Then I drew some Angbang as a gift and now he looks more human and also I have fallen into the Angbang pit, help.

Fairly straight forward portrayal. Except the time I drew his hair a little more flowy and in his face and now I may be incapable of drawing his hair any other way.

In this portrait (and comic) he's in like... semi-armor? Something between casual daily wear and a full suit of armor or formal attire.

While I'm working on more detailed designs with like. Actual facial features. In this simplified art style, I usually rely on more exaggerated features or outfits to differentiate characters better. Especially since I tend to keep comics monochrome.

Design Notes: Thuringwethil (what a name.)

I know she appears as a 'vampire' but like... I keep picturing her a little more wolf-like. Hence the hair. The comic was originally supposed to be Melkor and Gothmog, but I couldn't come up with a good design... so Thuri it was.

The blankets were unfurled, bed empty, as Keigo came out of the steamy shower. You were still sleeping soundly when he went to the bathroom thirty minutes ago. His urge to send out his feathers to do the searching was suppressed, and he opted to call out your name in the space.

“Over here!” A muffled response resonated from the walk-in closet. He breathed out a sigh of relief, proceeding to the small room. Keigo peeked into the doorway, stifling a giggle at the sight.

“Is this supposed to go around the waist and legs? Or the opposite?” Here you were standing in the middle of a clothes pile, the leather belts tangled around your lower half. “This didn’t come with any instructions, did it?”

Keigo tilted his head to the side. “It goes around the chest and neck, sweetheart.”

You shot back an incredulous look, while slowly detangling yourself from the leather. “I didn’t know you did modeling for BDSM products…”

A chuckle rumbled in his chest, and Keigo moved forward to help you out the accessory. “For the record, the fashion brand insisted it was for avant-garde purposes or some shit.”

You nearly tripped when the belt got caught on your ankle. Keigo caught your waist and set you down as you clung to his chest. He almost pulled away until he felt your nose brushing his collarbone.

“I told you to stop using my body soap. You know how hard it is to find that exact scent in the stores.” Keigo felt you pouting your lips into his skin, while he nuzzled his face into your hair.

“It’s not my fault you choose the good ones. Plus this one sticks to the skin better.” He flashed a cheeky grin at your impassive expression.

“I like the rainforest scent that you use though, it’s earthy and mild.” You mused. Keigo noted the reddening on the tips of your ears. Before he could comment on it, you pushed your body away from him, muttering something about wearing a shirt.

“I was about to get dressed until someone had to excavate every piece of clothing I have in the closet.”

You waved your hands around, “I literally made it easy for you! You can see everything you have now.” You tip-toed around the denim pile pooled around your feet and picked up a navy blue shirt discarded at the side.

Keigo reached out to take it only to have the shirt flung into his face. He sighed internally as he plucked it off his head and slipped into it. You were hunched over a different clothes pile this time.

“I’m still surprised at how many lace items you have in here.” You picked up a lace band, scrutinizing it. “Is this supposed to be a blindfold?”

He stood at your side, thinking back to his previous modeling gigs. “Yeah, I think the designer said they made that especially for me, so I got to keep it.”

You made a mental note to search for every fashion magazine that your boyfriend was featured in. “Huh, that explains the scarlet red details in the patterns.”

“You wanna have it?” Keigo couldn’t hide the playful tone in his voice. You greeted him with a dull glare and threw the lace to some other corner of the closet.

He giggled at your fussy mood, watching you stride over to the other side of the closet. You busied yourself by checking out the jackets you found, some of which still had their price tags on. There were some gaudy ones, definitely made for the runaway and not a walk in the park.

You slightly gasped when you found a simple bomber jacket with vines embroidery on the left sleeve. The color was not too bright and it was nearly your size. You saw a shadow loom over you as Keigo checked out your find.

“Ah, I’ve been meaning to throw that one out, the material looks bad with holes for my wings.”

You cringed at the thought of stabbing holes into this beautiful jacket, then did a double-take. “You’re going to throw it out?”

Keigo met your confused look with his own. “Yeah? Do you want me to donate it to charity instead?”

He saw you cling onto the jacket, pressing it close to your chest as if it would disappear in the air. His lips curled into a small smile. Keigo sat down on the floor next to you, playing with a strand of your hair.

“You’ll look good in it.” He cooed. You beamed at his reply and engulfed Keigo in a tight embrace. He buried his face into your shoulder, kissing it.

“In that case,” you pulled away from the hug and hopped over to another pile of clothes. Keigo raised an eyebrow at the scheming glint in your eye. “Can I have all this then?”

He let out an ungraceful snort at your eager request. “Angel,” the pet name caught your attention. “I let you steal all my other clothes, I don’t get why you have to ask permission for this.”

“At least I actually asked this time.” You sulked, gathering the other clothes you collected. “You didn’t even know most of your boxers vanished from your dresser.”

“My what?” Keigo’s eyes widened, taken aback by the confession. “When did you start stealing my underwear?”

You dared to roll your eyes at him. “If your wings weren’t attached to your back, you wouldn’t even know it disappeared if it did.”

Immediately, his feathers ruffled at the remark. “You don’t know that. I have like the keenest senses.” Keigo defended.

“Sure thing, Mr. Number Two Hero.”

You let out a squeal as Keigo tackled you to the ground. His wings and arms caged you in as he hovered his lips over yours. “You sure act tough for someone so easy to tower over.”

You clicked your tongue at him, hands pressing on his chest. “You are a child.”

Keigo had a satisfied look in his eye. Whatever quip you had ready, it got stuck in your throat as he sealed your lips with his own. His delicate lips moved slowly around your mouth, tongue protruding to lick yours. You couldn’t help the soft whimper escape you as he gently pulled away.

“That’ll shut up that smart mouth of yours.”

You groaned, moving your head to the side. “I can never win against you.”

A snicker left him, nuzzling his nose on yours. “You already won when you stole my heart.”

“...”

“Okay, that was awful.”

You pecked his cheek. “I still love you even though your jokes are cheesy as hell.”

“Thank you.” His hands moved to rub your arms. “I’ll continue loving you too even if you steal everything in my wardrobe.”

You snickered at the jab. Realization dawned on you as you lay down on the ground with him.

“So, you’re going to clean up all this mess, right?”

Needless to say, no cleaning was done as you were smothered in more kisses and teasing.

Like idk why but acknowledging what he is but understanding its a part of him and how he'll live with it, but he wont let it shape who he is at the end of Aria is just :') I love him 7: one way in which I relate to this character- Hmmm maybe the way in which he's kind of gullible at the beginning of Aria? Like being confused by a new situation and being "too trusting" in those environments (I get mad when people criticize him for that like hello??) 8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character- The only thing I can think of is his ridiculous Drac!Soma icon art in Dawn of Sorrow alskfdjsk hard to take that art style seriously OH! also the way his english voice actor says Alucard's name in Harmony of Despair lmao 9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?- Cinnamon roll :') In the bad endings, you know it's not him that's wanting to do evil, which is just so incredibly saddd

It’s during days like these when it really hits you that Marvus is an alien.

You shift your gaze upon his relaxed form, slumped against his pillowy “relaxation rectangle” - or whatever silly name he used to describe his couch. You really should make an effort to remember what trolls call all these things, but in your defense; it’s hard to tell what’s a troll-thing to say and what’s simply a Marvus-thing to say. Either way, the intricacies of the matter escapes you as a grin grows on your face at the sight of him stretching.

“Aw shit buddi, yaint gotta b scared to go actin all royally flushed for a mofo. Iss p fucking cute ya know? B-sides, a brutha ain’t gonna go an deny that wicked warmness you got ther ;o)”

Ah, how you love this doof.

You chuckle at the thought of his odd speech and mannerisms; how in the hell did you even fall for this guy? You’d jokingly jab at your past self for having bad taste, but as the clown in question gives you a toothy grin and places a far too wet smooch on your cheek, you can’t find it in you to regret anything. You place your hand on his face, so small against his large form, and turn his head back to you to wipe the smug grin off of him. You kiss him with all the tenderness you can muster, and he starts purring against you. It’s such a low rumbling, you imagine it’d be almost impossible to tell he was even doing it if it weren’t for the steady vibrations coming from deep in his chest.

Instead you take to studying his face, admiring his features; a hobby you’ve gotten quite adept at doing if you may say so yourself, not that you would brag about it of course. You fixate on his dark lips, no longer hidden beneath layers of greasy face paint. For some reason you seem to forget that all trolls have black lips naturally. It’s quite striking up close, especially contrasted with the bright yellow of his many sharp fangs. Trolls who aren’t too invested in cosmetics and beauty will often just use foundation or base makeup - if anything.

You assume to conceal potential color or something? You’re not really sure, but a few of your more casual-vibe buddies often have their lips covered with some kind of semi-opaque gray makeup. You appreciate their lack of Giving A Fuck about gender or sexuality and it’s earthly stereotypes. It’s refreshing, in a way, even if you know Alternia’s got more than enough issues to make up for it.

You had just earlier that night removed Marvus’ face paint getup, a surprisingly intimate experience, and now you have the ultimate payoff that is seeing the faint purple shade of his blush dancing it’s way across his cheeks and nose. You’re not sure how someone so big and scary by design can make you coo at them as if they were a baby, but Marvus somehow does that to you. Your clingy monkey brain wants to get even closer to him, you crave his gentle touch and embrace like you crave the air you breathe. Which is currently smelling quite savory from the meal you just ate together, you note. Hm. You should probably throw away the empty boxes of formerly bug-topped flavor disks. Insect pizza really isn’t your favorite kind of pizza, so Marvus was generous enough to get you a vegetarian, bug free version, which you appreciate.

You would end up tasting bugs anyway you’d later find out, as you straddle his lap to get a comfortable enough angle to kiss him more properly. Wow, trolls really are a lot bigger than humans. As you sit on top of him, you still only barely reach up to his chest. You smile into his mouth as his long tongue mingles with yours. He’s so cold, and as he carefully angles his mouth so he doesn’t cut you up with his teeth you wonder if he’s ever uncomfortable with the temperature difference.

You’re quite content with it yourself; it’s surprisingly relieving to feel his coolness against you when you’re all blushy and worked up like this, he’s like a breath of fresh air. Well. Fresh air that tastes like bug pizza.

He holds his strong hand against your back and pushes you closer. You giggle with him as you both fall backwards, you laying on top of him as he falls unceremoniously to the lower side of the couch. His thick hair is sticking out in all directions, and you let yourself slide your fingers through it. It’s like steel wool - tough, like the rest of him, but surprisingly smooth. Your hand glides easily along it and back onto his face. He grabs your hand and kisses your palm over and over as you beam down at him.

His horn is stabbing the cushion of his couch, but he doesn’t seem to care. He winks at you and sticks his tongue out, as if posing for a silly candid photo made for your eyes only. He makes a silly joke about you falling for him, and you’re almost dizzy with happiness.

Yeah, you love days like these.

@your last post (i think), why specifically do you think that hootie is a creation of eda? personally i just headcanon him as being a housedemon that eda kinda took habitant in while he was just forming/coming to be to shape him partially into what he is today

The first season of The Owl House opted to give us little to no idea about Hooty´s origin story, but in my particular view, he was made by Eda - not entirely, but at least part of him - which is what led me to address him as part of Eda´s creations;

My main reasons to believe it are based on the fact that Hooty presents himself with the features of an owl, being in charge (or part of) a house that is literally called The Owl House, where a cursed witch, called The Owl Lady, lives and has a bird palysman called Owlbert; As we´ve seen through the season, this nocturne bird is Eda´s magic signature - she even summons giant “Hooty shaped” heads during duels! And, with all that information (and other related details they imply) I refuse to believe they're just a mere coincidence when it comes to Hooty´s creation;

Once again, I do not believe that Eda was the one who invented Hooty from scratch - or the house itself ~lol imagine if Eda has a little of the Construction track in herself~ - but she did have a major hand in defining what he has come to be.

Your HC helped me further look in that matter, allowing me to come up with this “theory” (I hope you don´t mind :)) that, in one particular day and for whatever reason, Eda ends up stumbling upon the The Owl House, founding it abandoned, falling apart-ish, and filled with this twisted aurea, as something angry and dark were hidden in there.

She finds herself paying several visits to the lot, hovering with the curiosity of a mystery hunter and the interest of a realtor - at the time, she was already old enough to be financially independent and intellectually fed up with her actual household´s pressions ~and their disapproval of her criminal activities~ so a fresh start at a more private part of the Island was quite temptive;

Eda finds out that the wrong feeling she was getting from the old building was due to this ancient demon spirit that inhabited the place - it worked as a conscience for the house, and his negative emotions (translated into a melancholic behavior) was due to the departure of their previous master, which left them broken, as the demon lost its only purpose and was left to rot in the forest - who knows for how long they have been living under those unfortunate conditions? ~ah yeah the angst~

The Owl Lady then saw an opportunity, and she took it. Of course, I imagine it wasn't as easy as just telling this ancient, lugubrious being that you´ll adopt them and the day would be saved - No, even if Eda had little interest for the house´s previous occupants, she could sense the place was designed to allow only the minimally dignified ones to live in. And that demon was the judger;

So after performing whatever trials or/and solving riddles (or just cheating in Eda style) necessary to gain the demon´s loyalty (and the house´s property), Eda made her first significative change to the place: she reshaped her new guardian to fit with her “aesthetics”, and that, plus the relieving feeling of finally finding a suitable master once again resulted in Hooty´s odd - but delighted - personality;

[I also wonder if this is somewhat a bad joke for Eda, to place this powerful spiritual being into a sympathetic owl tube vessel, or an attempt to make him sees less threatening in a daily basis (which also can be part of this comical factor, as Lilith must have been so pissed to be defeated over and over again by an annoying door peephole)]

Plus, Hooty had proved quite independent, as Eda had to develop several strategies to avoid some of his “quirks”, which infers she doesn't have enough control over him to simply give him an order to stop - or in parallel, she feels enough compassion for Hooty to see him more as a friend than a servant, so she rather deal with his ways than to impose her authority - as we know, Eda is not really a fan of hierarchical systems, and if his backstory is as sad as I speculated, her empathy grows even more, as the trauma of isolation is something they have in common ;

With all that in mind, we conclude that Hooty is his own being, but is under the magical influence of Eda due to a deal or anything of similar nature (and he seems pretty satisfied with this!). So, in defense of my last post, since Hooty has been affected by the Owl Lady´s magic to the level of redesign, he shares the same “essence” as Eda other creations. But just like him, Owlbert is also sentient, and although it is obvious that both operate in different ranges of independence, they are still connected to each other by this common “core”.

Out of curiosity, what first got you interested in the Grievous backstory? Boy, I wish I had a COOL STORY, but it’s pretty much: General Grievous was randomly brought up in something I was watching and so I started searching around and came across clips of his 2003 incarnation—on two separate occasions over the course of multiple years. It took until the second time this happened for me to latch onto it, possibly because was around the same time as the combined hype for The Rise of Skywalker (which did not live up to it) and first season of The Mandalorian (which did). I very quickly went from “hey, this guy does have a cool design” to “what’s his story?” and the rest is history.

Please tell us so much about Kaleesh biology. How good is their hearing? Are their bones more or less flexible than humans? How much can the average Kaleesh bench-press? How much can Qymaen bench-press? What’s the closest living relative to the Kaleesh in the Kalee animal kingdom? What’s the purpose for the tusks, beyond aesthetics?

I’m in love with your worldbuilding and have about as many questions as Huk Qymaen has killed. Oh jeez, thanks! There are questions here that I HAVEN’T actually put much thought into, oh no! The best I can do without doing some improvisational worldbuilding is: their hearing is at least as good as a human’s; the average Kaleesh warrior can bench-press…uh, more than Sheelal-era Qymaen (sorry buddy); and yeah, tusks are pretty much all about display/aesthetics (they are secondary sex characteristics and...well, more along the lines of “eyy check these out” than “LET ME FIGHT YOU WITH MY FACE”).

Sometime I recommend transliterating Kaleesh words into Cyrillic and running them through Google Translate’s Russian text reader. It’s so satisfying. Долхлава. Какмусмэ. Урукишнугал. Колкправис. Рондеру лидж Куммар. Амаги дин Ку-лиана. Малга Шапра.

(No, I didn’t just spend all night doing this, why do you ask?) First of all, this was really fun to do. It’s still wild to hear these words and names said out loud! Usually sounds spot-on, too. Second and less relevant, I was FAR too proud of myself for being able to remember enough Cyrillic to be able to read all of the Kaleesh words up there. But of course context helps. :’D

You know what would be cool? A picture of the entire Gang together before ... you know. This is something I have indeed considered drawing! Someday… Maybe a candid group photo with some sort of salvaged Huk cam that Amagi and Jindra have just figured out how to make work? xD

So Ronderu’s what, three years older than Qymaen? Two? Three years, weighted closer to four than to two. (note to self: Kaleesh calendar)

I absolutely adore and admire the amount of detail and work that you've put into this fanfic, I really wish this was current canon! This has also gotten me interested in wanting to know more about the Kaleesh–Bitthævrian War and Grievous's grandmother who was in it, while also inspiring me to want to make my own headcanons about it. Thank you so much! It sure is MY personal canon, and I’m so glad there are some folks out there enjoying it and drawing inspiration from it, too. I can’t see myself having the energy anytime soon to flesh out more about the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War and his great-elder-mother, but it certainly would be very cool to read a short story about it~ ;D (btw, according to the “The Story of General Grievous: Lord of War” article, it was his great-grandmother, not his grandmother, who fought in the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War. I think Wookieepedia may have been updated incorrectly at some point!)

That is an interesting revelation in the new chapter! I was wondering, is Zigmash & the concept of 'Planet Name' Spice something you created, or are you building off of something from the EU? Ah, so Aza just refers to zigmash as “Kaleesh spice” for lack of a better descriptor; it’s clearly a drug and it’s from Kalee, but it makes it offworld so rarely there’s no general term for it. Zigmash itself is my invention; Kalee’s resources were not considered valuable to the Yam’rii, but that’s not to say they have to be entirely nonexistent! (in this case, there is DEFINITELY stronger, more desirable spice out there in the galaxy; as Aza herself notes, it’s more the scarcity and unusual source that makes it marketable).

What do Zaebar’s and Amagi’s kakmusmal look like? I do plan on drawing them sometime! (that reminds me, I still need to draw clan sigils! augh! so many plans, so little time!) Most kakmusmal look pretty similar, since they’re all carved to fit the general shape of Kaleesh faces, but they use different animal skulls (common to the region) for the base. Zaebar’s is likely from a pakozri, and Amagi’s is made from an amsi.

OKAY HERE WE GO

for starters, these are specific to my gijinka, buuuuut most of them also fit my general interpretation of him

- Meta Knight is not his actual name. It’s just the title he gave himself to sound cool.

- As such, he’s not technically a knight, just in spirit. A meta knight, if you will (:

- He takes his image very seriously. It used to be so bad that he would take literally everything seriously, and had a reputation for sucking all of the life and fun out of everything and anything. But, he’s softened up a lot since he came to dreamland. He’s actually a pretty fun guy nowadays (and maybe just a little chaotic, or, rather, enthusiastic when excited...)

- Because of his once dreadfully serious nature, his face is stone cold and “dead eyed”. Once he broke himself of his old habits and lightened up, he became humiliated by how stone faced he is, and it’s one of the many reasons he wears his mask.

- Speaking of his mask! He is sensitive to light, and his mask helps tone it down for him. He can go without it, but if he’s in a well lit area for awhile, he will start to get a migraine.

- As such, he has pretty good night vision.

- Yes...he is very bat like. That’s for a reason! My hc for my puffball gijinkas is that they have a lot of traits similar to their wing type. For instance, since Galacta has bird wings, they have some bird like features like sharp vision, soft feathers strewn about their hair, and squawking when startled.

- Yes, this implies that Meta makes cute bat-like trills and squeaks......(he also purrs. puffs purr, because they are basically just round cats)

- He is very kind and caring beneath his persona, which has become more and more evident. He is also incredibly protective of those close to him. He secretly worries he will lose them, and as such, he does everything to keep them around.

- Despite his agility, he can be quite clumsy at times. This has led to some...embarrassing injuries.

- He’s tiny! 5’0 with heels and 4’10 without them, but since he almost always wears them, he will tell people he is around 5’0 (but almost 5’1!)

- As a knight of sorts, he has a strong sense of chivalry (which is basically canon). It is hard for him to accept any sort of kindness, since he feels he owes something in return. He always makes sure to express his gratitude however he can.

- However, he is really bad at emotions and expressing himself. He suppressed most of them early on when he was painfully serious, and as he’s lightened up, he’s had to deal with actual emotions.

- He uses art and poetry to cope with this and express his emotions. He never lets anyone see it though.

- He also draws cute things. He loves cute things, but is still hesitant to let others know this, as he worries it will

- a) damage his reputation and

- b) confirm to him he is, very much, a rather cute little puffball

- There are many (often very specific) things he is fascinated by, and can talk on for hours on end. However, his more personal and less “serious” interests he rarely talks about to anyone he isn’t close with, and if they’re brought up in public, he often gets very flustered. (yes, he’s shy but he’ll never call it that)

- He loves sweets and has a passion for baking. He’s quite good at it, but not at cooking actual meals.

- Despite Kirby (and the meta-knights) thinking of him as their dad, he is absolutely horrid with children. Does not know how to deal with them. He gets very flustered (and often frustrated) if he ever has to watch them. Since he doesn’t really know how to deal with them, he kinda just treats them as he would anyone else. Because of his caring and protective nature, many still consider him dad-like.

- Oh yeah, Kirby is the exception to this since he is (usually) such a wonderful little dude. If left alone with the other puff, he can act like a semi-competent father. It is very rare that this actually happens though.

Okay, time for some darker headcanons, including a lot of post Mecha Knight stuff (‘:

Oh yeah I have a Mecha Knight gijinka too 😳

-He suffers from depression. This was one of the main reasons he used to be so dreadfully serious, and why he’s so used to suppressing his emotions. He used to use his knightly persona as a not-very-healthy way of coping.

-As a bit of a lighter note, after many years of care and support from his friends, he’s seriously lightened up.

-However, he still has days when it surfaces, and it often takes the whole day to get him back to a more functional state. Yes, even Meta Knight has to take mental health days sometimes (:

-He has a serious issue with abandonment. He worries nobody could actually care about him, and frets constantly that he will lose the people close to him. This stems back to when he got his wings, as many saw them as “demonic” and as a “bad omen”

-Because of this, he has a really low self esteem, which, again, is why he used to live through his knight persona primarily, and was so ashamed of his actual self.

-The Mecha Knight incident left him with serious mental scars, giving him minor ptsd through nightmares and panic attacks when strongly reminded of the incident.

-It also left him with a robotic eye and arm.

-During his fight with Haltmann Works, his non-gauntlet arm was severely injured. Instead of just trying to fix it, Susie gave him a shiny new robot arm. It was originally Haltmann red and black, but he repainted it and, with some help from his crew, slightly modified it to more of his style.

-He also had an eye replaced in order to be compatible with the “eye” that swerves around the mask. He’s been too scared to try rewiring or recoloring it.

-The Mecha Knight incident really set him back from all the progress he made.

-During the first few months post Mecha Knight, he hid himself, only showing up when needed. He became paranoid of him hurting his friends without knowing it, which furthered his isolation.

-Much like how he managed to learn to cope better with his depression, it took him a lot of time and help to get him back to where he used to be.

-And, to end this little segment on a happier note, as of the time of Kirby Fighters 2, he’s much happier than he’s ever been. He’s made a lot of progress, is much more open with others, and much more accepting of his soft side (:

I could honestly go on and on, I have SO MANY notes that haven’t made it into this post, including his backstory, his relationship with the other characters, and a few other miscellaneous details (I even gave him a more...normal name that he never uses cause its cute and why not). If anyone’s ever interested in more though, feel free to ask me, I do have anon ask on after all, and boy do I have a lot to say (:

Nathan Bateman’s Bathroom: Luna Goes Way Too Hard

Canon vs. Headcanon + about this post: his bedroom is underground, so if he has an en suite it might be similarly windowless, and possibly even quite Spartan. I think the complex may have multiple bathrooms though (and I’ve realised I imagined at least three different ones in my head for different fics), so if we’re bending the rules a little to imagine a bathroom that makes the most of the setting, I think the moodboards suggest the general aesthetic I have in my head. Basically, since none of the pics I found were 100% accurate, and because I’m a huge NERD, I also followed up with lengthy descriptions no-one asked for. (Look, I never promised I wasn’t over-invested... and not just in the character of Nathan and in the movie, but ALSO? The architecture / design / setting of that house is my dream, and I’m a bit of a geek about interiors and especially how they link with characters so I’m sorry if you REGRET EVER ASKING!) Of course, if anyone has other thoughts on this, or other questions I can go WAY too deep on hmu! 🧡

Bathroom mood/vibe: efficient / understated / minimalist / slightly clinical edge. Decadent but in a very subtle way. Not flashy- luxurious more because of the materials, setting, design etc. rather than anything “in your face”. Not cosy exactly, but don’t get me wrong- everything is high-end- heated floors, amazing water pressure and settings, softest towels.

Colours: raw concrete, slate grey, stone beige, wood colours, maybe a hint of teal/copper but very subtle.

Textures/materials: It’s not exactly a cosy / warm room in some ways, but the natural textures soften it a lot and make it oddly comforting. Think raw concrete, exposed rock. Glass, obviously, with the floor to ceiling wall of windows. Accents of slatted wood-panelling reminiscent of a steam room. Natural textures in accessories e.g. wood bath tray, soap dish. Amber glass pump bottles- no plastic to be seen! Maybe a hint of marble. Nothing too shiny, not even the shower fixtures- maybe black!? And nothing that looks like it isn’t meant to be there or isn’t in-keeping with the natural textures... anything too modern will be hidden somewhere seamlessly. Nathan doesn’t have a lot of tech on display for a tech genius...

Shapes: sharp lines and boxy shapes, and everything very uniform, contrasting with the naturalness of the exposed stone and outdoor scenery (parallels with the whole theme of natural vs. manmade in the movie). Boxy shapes but everything integrated into something else if possible, adding to the sense of elegance and efficiency, e.g. boxy shelves set directly into walls, or ledges popping-out to form benches. Maybe a long countertop the length of one wall with the sink set into it. Lots of continuous lines and shapes rather than items plonked around with no coherency.

Wow factor: that view though! Imagine either a free-standing or sunken tub at the far end of the room (I asked irl husband and he said maybe the bath even disappears into the floor when it’s not in use and then it’s just a giant wet room!) with a whole wall of windows looking out over the stunning, wild Alaskan landscape. It’s not overlooked so you can start the day nude having a cold shower (like the glacial waters you see in the distance) like Nathan does, or you can finish it off in a hot bath while looking out at THAT majesty, watching golden hour rake through the trees and spreading dappled, molten colour through the room. I also imagine that some of the roof is glass, maybe with a covering over the top which is retractable, (so imagine a glass cube jutting out a little from the side of the compound), so that you can lie in the bath and stargaze, and almost feel like you’re outside without being subjected to the thaw.

Layout/design: I don’t imagine shower doors, or many traditional doors or windows. I think it would be quite opened up, like a whole, multi-purpose wet room. However, I think instead there might be well-located partitions e.g. a partition separating out the toilet / bidet. Who wants to look at that?!

Functional stuff: No obvious bulbs or bright lights but soft, hidden lights. Slight lighting drama in places to highlight features e.g. lights fanning across textures of stone, running along the edges of a boxy shelf. Plus, the dim lighting is appreciated by Nathan when he’s hungover. At least one of those fancy rain shower heads. But also other attachments and taps and nozzles for whatever you may wanna do. Everything is convenient and customisable. Nathan is fussy and why would he settle for less than his exact pereference when he doesn’t have to?! And why should you?! Also, there are obviously integrated speakers in case you want to listen to music or whatever, without having to faff with a Bluetooth speaker. Nathan often likes it silent, but the option is there for when the mood strikes. Oh, and I hope he has a hot tub and lil steam room somewhere else in the development, out on a deck we haven’t seen. Maybe further into the forest, or underground.

Signs of life: Nathan’s fluffy, slate grey bathrobe. Slate grey and spa white towels. The bare minimum of grooming products (dental stuff, beard oil, grooming kit, shaver, aftershave) and a large rectangular sink with a mirror so he can groom the beard and keep his head freshly buzzed (the mirror also comes in handy so he can check-out the results of his working-out, or to have a good view if he wanna get, ahem, frisky with anyone). Although, I’m convinced that although Nathan’s routine is minimal, he probably has something fancy stashed away - some lush oils for sore muscles or facial treatments. (Basically, I don’t think he’d be entirely against a spa day.) Other things he has stashed away? Painkillers/over-the-counter hangover remedies, some scientifically proven super vitamins, who knows what else? He’s pretty secretive. Ocassionally, some magazines or journals or papers he’s been reading are casually strewn in there. He has to keep up with the outside world somehow, and we know from the post-it wall that sometimes he appreciates things analogue. Also, he subscribes to some art quarterlies that I’m clearly not fancy enough to know about, so there’s that.

How does he use the room? Headcanons etc. I personally don’t see Nathan as a bath person. At least, not unless someone... persuasive convinces him of the benefits. He’s efficient and mainly sees it as a waste of time. Also he sits down enough that he’s keen to stand when he can. Besides, for someone who works out and gets sweaty so much, showers make more sense. There are exceptions; for example, he might bathe if he’s super sore from weight-training, but he has a lil bath tray and he’s willing to risk electrocution by bringing his laptop in there so he can soak and work at the same time. However, the tub is technically roomy enough for two. And, crucially, it has middle taps, so no-one gets poked in the back if you go end-to-end. Ah, why not pour some champagne and bubbles and lie back and see how long you can keep him there. I’m sure you can put up a pretty convincing argument.

I read a fanfic where Hordak had prosthetic legs. The reasoning being that if his legs were the same as his arms—in terms of muscle loss—they wouldn’t be able to support his weight. Is that a realistic thing? It seems like sound logic and we never see his legs below the knee. But before I head cannon it, I figured I’d ask the resident Hordak-biology expert.

Ah, my; I’m not an expert. I’m just abnormally attached :P

However! In terms of Hordak’s lower legs: one could probably headcanon this however one wants. I do know that I’ve seen fanart from his character designer that features his lower legs bare and appearing healthy: no discoloration or degeneration. That said, this is absolutely not addressed in canon, so designer fanart is likely just like viewer fanart: not Officially Canon. 

I would say that one could do whatever one wishes with his legs: healthy vs. degenerated vs. prosthetic. Certainly if he were to have the same sort of missing musculature in his legs as in his arms, he’d need some sort of tech there to help him stand and walk.

So it’s feasible! If one wishes it to be. Or, if desired, one can assume that the degeneration does not yet go past the waist. Also an option c:
