In the year 2021 where anti/pro shipper discourse is a thing I genuinely wonder how some people feel about having used to ship Dave/Rose or other incest ships with some kind of caveats where it wasn’t just typical siblings growing up together. Would they renounce themselves now? Blame it on having been young or not knowing any better? 

Like not to be problematíc but still understand the appeal of Dave/Rose ya know. I’m not smart enough nor dumb enough to REALLY get deep into the discourse and I’m not a psychologist but you know like. Stepmom & stepsibling shit, that’s a thing. Only one date is ever mentioned in-game, that being 2021. Considering that the Virtual Singer Fan Festa seems to be a stand-in for Magical Mirai 2021, we can assume that the Scramble Fan FESTA! event takes place in September 2021 (the real-life MM2021 was delayed to November due to covid-19, but the pandemic doesn't exist in-universe and MM Tokyo usually takes place at the beginning of September). There are Leo/need Daily Life social media posts that show them attending Magical Mirai, and do state the year of the event, but these can be considered promotional material for the event itself rather than canon material, especially since the characters address in-game that only one year has passed since the start of the story (despite the fact they have celebrated new year's day 4 times now. Timeloop things).

Based on this date, we can actually place exactly when every main character was born. The cutoff date for Japanese schools is April 1st, making Ena the oldest main character, being a 3rd year with a birthday of April 30th, followed by Tsukasa on May 17th, so on so forth all the way down to Kohane, a 2nd year with a birthday of March 2nd.

Considering when Scramble Fan FESTA is set, Ena, who was a 2nd year at the time, would be 17 years old. That would place her date of birth as April 30th, 2004. Additionally, while Kohane, a first year at the time, should be 15 during the event, the game considers her to be 16 due to using a set age for every grade bracket. Regardless, the event setting places her date of birth as March 2nd, 2006.

Based on this, we can conclude that:

Ena, Tsukasa, Rui, and Shizuku were born in 2004

Mafuyu, Kanade, Airi, Minori, Saki, Toya, Nene, An, Ichika, Mizuki, Emu, Haruka, Honami, and Akito were born in 2005

Shiho and Kohane were born in 2006

This also means that Ena, Tsukasa and Rui are all older than the MEIKO software (released November 5th 2004), and everyone except Kohane is older than the KAITO software (released February 17th 2006). Every main character is older than Miku, the Kagamines, and Luka based on this information.

Using the information around set ages*, we can also work out rough estimates for when the side characters were born. For example, Arata, who was 19 during the first 3 years of the game, is 3 years older than the members of VBS who were all considered to be 16. Since the members of VBS were born in the April 2005 - April 2006 school year range, Arata was likely born in the 2002-2003 school year range.

* based on how characters like Youta and Miu, who are said to be the same age as Leo/need, were both confirmed to be 16 years old before the 3rd anniversary age-up. Also Haruka's age is confirmed as 16 at a point in time when she shouldn't be 16. Timeloop things.

Based on this, the oldest living side character, Kounosuke, who was 55 pre-3rd anniversary and 39 years older than Emu, was probably born between April 1966 and April 1st 1967. On the younger side of things, Hanano, who was 14 pre-3rd anni, was likely born between April of 2007 and 2008. I've put the rest of the estimated side character DOBs under the cut.

Additional notes (mod is rambling atp):

Rakunosuke died when he was 98 years old. In the WxS main story, Emu says that he died a year ago. Assuming Emu was 15 at the time, they have an age gap of around 83 years. The year of birth listed here was based on that assumption.

We know that Kanade's mother died aged 30, but we do not know when she died. She is still alive in flashbacks set roughly 10 years prior to the events of game.

We do not have confirmed ages for Nagi, Reki, Sakaki, MMJ's landlady or Mafuyu's father yet.

Rui suggests that Reki is the same age as him in A Story Where You Are The Star. However since it's more vague than Asahi, I left it out. However, Asahi was since confirmed as 18 when he was compared to Reki as being similar age, it is likely that Reki is also around 18 years old.

Nagi's age is left blank in the fanbook due to it not being revealed that she was dead at the time of publication. She is younger than Taiga, but we don't know by how much, but nonetheless she was likely born in the early 1980s.

No NPCs are given exact birthdays

❣️ I'm gonna have to list Cherry Magic and Cooking Crush again just because they filled me with so much serotonin lol. Truly beautiful productions, so carefully written, so well executed and with so much wholesomeness and so many green flags lol. I had the best time watching them and the fact that 2 OG pairs had comeback shows back to back gave me so much nostalgia lol, especially since the genre is reminiscent of their old shows. 👎🏻 It has been a year lmao a lot of things happened this month, the Pawin situation makes me sad, we don't know what actually happened but the whole thing is messed up either way. James dropping out of LUAT came as a surprise as well, I'm not a NetJames fan but if they really had a falling out like the rumors say then that's sad. Singto coming back to gmm has been a nice surprise amongst the scandals lol but other than that I hope things go uphill after this 🥺

❗️ Actor Singto Prachaya has returned to GMMTV as an artist. He previously left the company in 2021 to work as a freelance actor & producer after being under contract for nearly 5 years. It is unknown whether he will be part of any projects of the 2024 lineup.

❗️ The Thai BL Playboyy is getting a second season.

❗️ The upcoming Korean series High School Return of a Gangster announced the removal of the original BL plot. The show will air as a censored version, focusing on the friendship between the male leads.

❗️ Actors Charles Tu (HIStory 4) and Michael Chang (My Tooth Your Love) were confirmed to star in the upcoming BL First Note of Love. The series tells the story of a musician who is struggling with stage fright and one of his fans. An air date has not been announced.

❗️ Actor Non Ratchanon will no longer partake in the upcoming BL Live in Love. In an official statement, the production company stated that the decision was made due to disagreements between his agency and the one representing his co-star Hearth Chindanai. A recast for his role has yet to be announced.

❗️ GMMTV actor Win Pawin was accused of physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, who made public allegations with photo evidence of her wounds. As a result GMMTV released a statement announcing the suspension of Pawin from all further work activities until legal investigations are complete. This lead to him making a public statement saying he is withdrawing from the upcoming BL We Are. He was cast as one of the 8 protagonists and was paired with his former partner Marc Pahun. GMMTV released a followup statement today, announcing Pawin's character would be recast to newbie Poon Mitpakdee.

❗️ Actor James Supamongkon announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Domundi BL Love Upon a Time. He released a statement on Twitter, saying he wants to expand his career and focus on other projects as an artist apart from acting. The company stated that Net and the others will stay part of the cast and that a new partner for Net will be cast shortly. This caused a big uproar amongst the fans who have been waiting for the series since it was announced over a year ago. Whether James' dropping out has anything to do with a dispute between him and Net is not confirmed.

Regarding Kyo's new scalp tattoo

Hoping to answer a few comments/questions I've gotten over the past week on this topic.

Despite declaring on July 20th 2021 that his tattoo adventure had come to an end, revealing who his main tattoo artist had been and at some point explaining that part of the reason for this was that he adamantly wanted to leave his left hand and his face free of tattoos and ran out of space, it's official now that Kyo has a new tattoo on the top of his head, which would be covered by hair if he lets it grow back again.

There's also been an evolution to it:

January 17th 2024 - no tattoo yet, unless something was blurred out in this picture

Tattoo outline gotten at some point between January 17th and January 20th, sticking hair extensions and applying makeup on the surface despite the pain or irritation that must be associated to that.

As you can see, the tattoo consists of a crown of barbed wire with chains and flames.

Then, between mid-January and mid-February, some of the outlined areas got filled with black, Kyo shaving his head clean again.

Maybe some shading will be applied to the flames as well?

Not sure if he just recently discovered/thought of the idea of tattooing his scalp and went back on his words for that reason, or if there was another intention. Either way, obviously it works very well, it's very artistic!

AMNIBUS has announced the 4th edition of the Yu Yu Yu Hakusho POP UP STORE in Loft! It will be held from February 17th, 2024, for a limited period at some Loft stores! 2 August, this time groomed while photographed on the streets of NoHo with AN. Later on we learned he recorded videos for Esquire

3 August, the next shop event at Broadway Spirits, some more streetpics and video were found.

August 4 he flew to Chicago for the next event at Binny's Beverage Depot on August 5th. There's some time to explore Chicago in the evening and the next day enjoying a baseball game. He's also spotted by a fan leaving the hotel

Next stops will be on August 8 for Houston and August 10 for Austin. While the LA stop has been postponed.

August 7 looking for some coffee at the airport and flying to Houston. And right back to promo and mixing cocktails at Permission Whiskey and Mad Houston

August 8 the event at Spec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods including the pre-signing, waiting line and fan pics. After which he did some more bartending at Electric FeelGood in Houston.

August 9 he's in Austin seen at Peche, the next day, August 10, the event at Total Wine & Spirits in Austin takes place.

August 11, Sam and Alex are flying, probably to LA though it's not sure if the story is a latergram

However confirmation about his whereabouts came a week later when we saw NR flying on August 16 to what appeared to be LA and was confirmed by PV's post they were at Pharos gym at Redondo Beach on August 17th.

August 19 he visits the Rams game in the Sofi Stadium, LA together with Nic R, AN and Marina C. A fan recognized him as well.

On Aug 24th he posted a video probably at Runyon Canyon or the HH Hills. Presumably recent. The next day, August 25th, he posted a pic with NR at Pharos Echopark, for sure a latergram as NR was already back home, and as we learned S himself took a flight out of LA, spotted by a fan. He flew to Kansas City for a private con on August 26th, organised by Sasnak City. he was a guest together with Duncan L and Charles V. Some more info was revealed later during a live IG of attendees.

On Friday 1 September members of the SS/MPC team were invited for a boat trip at Marina Del Rey. Which lead to a stir since then called the Zanzibar Saga.

Sunday 3 September the final event of the SS tour at Total Wine & More in LA

On 5 September he was spotted sitting outside at Shutters on the Beach, and 2 days later on 7 September again, now at a coffee shop on Abbot Kinney same clothes and motorbike helmet.

On 10 September he's at the men's finales at the US Open in NYC

Recording the audio for the CL in NZ book at the Hachette office in NYC during the week from 11 - 15 September, on Friday 15 September a group pic from the office is posted as well as another pic from an employee. Another group pic is posted later on. On Saturday 16 September a fan pic is posted from the Starbuck shop near the Hachette office and on 18 September he posts a video himself.

Sunday 24 September he's spotted at The Cafe at Number 16 in Aberdour, Scotland, having some family time

On 26 September he posts a selfie with Jake Norton, meeting him in Glasgow the day before. Later on confirmed by a fan pic taken on the same day. He might have been doing some home decorating in that week.

Emilia Hart is a British-Australian writer. She was born in Sydney and studied English Literature and Law at the University of New South Wales before working as a lawyer in Sydney and London. The Story

In Weyward, the narrative intertwines the lives of three women spanning five centuries. In 2019, Kate seeks solace in Weyward Cottage, escaping from London and her abusive partner. She slowly unravels a mystery hidden within the cottage's history, hinting at secrets from her great aunt's past and the 17th-century witch hunts. In 1619, Altha faces trial for a murder she didn't commit, relying on her unconventional nature magic to defend herself against accusations of witchcraft. The Review

I picked Weyward up on a whim and am so pleased that I did. Historical fiction mixed with magical realism and a dash of incredibly rich writing made it a real pleasure to read. The narrative weaves between three women across five centuries, deftly showcasing the myriad ways in which women demonstrate resilience and bravery under difficult circumstances.

Being totally honest, I often struggle with split narrative timelines in novels. I can’t be the only one who has found themselves bored with one section of a book, willing the boring chapters to end in order to get back to the characters I am invested in… right? Thankfully, Weyward’s leading ladies are all so fabulous and their stories so engaging, that I was invested in each timeline equally. This actually sped up my reading as the story progressed, as I wanted to find out how each character was doing in their timeline more and more desperately. If you want to read a moving story with wonderful characters that emphasizes the transformative power of nature, please pick this up!

Witch. The word slithers from the mouth like a serpent, drips from the tongue as thick and black as tar. We never thought of ourselves as witches, my mother and I. For this was a word invented by men, a word that brings power to those who speak it, not those it describes. A word that builds gallows and pyres, turns breathing women into corpses.

One thing I will say before really digging in to the review, is that there are a lot of trigger warnings for this novel (see above for a summary). Reading through the list, it may seem that this is a tome of sheer doom and gloom, but it actually didn’t feel that way to me. Obviously, a lot of the trigger warnings may be Hard Nos for some people, and that’s totally fair, however I found this story so engaging and the characters so strong, that the TWs didn’t beat me down as much as they could have. Being set across five centuries, this book explores a number of methods by which patriarchal societies abuse women.  From the outright cruelties of the 17th Century to the more insidious offences of modern society, there is a lot of violence and misogyny at work here. It can get difficult in parts, but I found myself uplifted by the women’s strength in the end.

Now, I’ve discussed how strong the characters are; let me properly introduce them to you! Kate, living in her 2019 timeline, wants to escape a violent partner and discover the truth about her family. Violet, in 1942 and the midst of the Second World War, wants to escape the societal confines and expectations of femininity and live a life she chooses. Altha in 1619 just wants to survive. I loved them all. I cared about them all. I may have even shed a tear or two over them (and books don’t make me cry super often). I particularly loved Violet and her sheer determination to live her own life. I really appreciated seeing her as a teen from her own perspective, as well as from Kate’s perspective looking back at Violet as an old woman. (I want grow up to be an eccentric old lady with the witchiest house in the world just like her!) The interlacing of their stories is so well conceived, it really feels like you’re seeing a cohesive timeline rather than random sections plonked together.

Perhaps one day, she said, there would be a safer time. When women could walk the earth, shining bright with power, and yet live.

There is so much witchcraft detail in this book, dropped in so sneakily and creatively, I just loved it! All the leading ladies have Witch Marks (which definitely need to be used in witchy stories more frequently), but they’re not overly emphasized… they’re just there and mentioned in passing in various subtle ways. The way the Familiars work is also super cool; not every animal can be a familiar, and they aren’t necessarily easily controlled, but they provide emotional support and do their witches’ bidding when needed. I especially loved the constant presence of the crows, which at first seem wild and dangerous, but eventually become as important to the plot as the leading characters as symbols of power. And I love, love, love how the magic stems so much from the witches’ connection to the natural world. It just felt so right to me.

One notable factor in Weyward for me was how deftly Emilia Hart wove historical facts into the narrative. From the Lancashire Assizes to the Pendle Witch Trials and King James I and his obsession with Witch Hunts, Altha’s timeline felt so based in history as to be almost visceral. This sort of thing really happened to living women. I was especially impressed by the use of the Great Comet of 1618; Hart definitely did her research in order to place her story firmly in the real world, with an additional magical touch.

There was something about us – the Weyward women – that bonded us more tightly with the natural world. We can feel it, she said, the same way we feel rage, sorrow or joy. The animals, the birds, the plants – they let us in, recognising us as one of their own. That is why roots and leaves yield so easily under our fingers, to form tonics that bring comfort and healing. That is why animals welcome our embrace. Why the crows – the ones who carry the sign – watch over us and do our bidding, why their touch brings our abilities into sharpest relief.

Weyward has become one of my favourite reads for 2024, and has 100% got a solid seat in my Top Ten of the Year. It is endlessly impressive to me that is was Emilia Hart’s DEBUT NOVEL. Seriously, my hat is off to her for creating a story that felt so real and so magical at the same time. I will definitely be reading more of her work as it is published. If my recommendation isn’t enough, Weyward also won Goodreads’ Best Historical Fiction title in 2023. And if you buy a physical copy of the book, you get a neat little flip book of a crow flying in the page corners. If all that doesn’t sell it to you, I don’t know what will.

August 12th, 2021 - We report: we feel, ever stronger each time, the impulse to stop everything we are doing when we spot a rainbow. We stare at the way the light hits the rain for as long as we can to see it gently wobble. We notice it intensifying and weakening before it disappears.

October 14th, 2021 - We report one of the numerous rainbows that we have had the chance to witness lately. Rainbows occur most frequently in rainy situations, interestingly enough. There are fewer chances of a rainbow appearing if there is no rain going on at all. Absolutely fascinating.

November 5th, 2021 - We report: just a little sundog that appeared and disappeared very quickly. We looked for it for too long after it faded away, and we can now see red and green spots everywhere we look. Staring directly at the Sun is not a great idea, but we keep making the same mistake.

November 17th, 2021 - We report that we wanted to look at these clouds that were drowned in sunlight, and so we covered the Sun with one hand. When we looked up, right here, hidden in plain sight, these clouds were rippling with the whole colour specter.

January 5th, 2022 - We report: we can not count how many times either we or our expert have called "rainbow!" and eagerly pointed at the sky as though it would immediately disappear if we looked away. It is hard to even blink in the presence of rainbows.

February 4th, 2022 - We report a circumzenithal arc, a swipe of rainbow far above the Sun; these occur thanks to some flat and hexagonal ice crystals in the highest parts of the troposphere. Unlike our usual rainbows, their colours start with blue and end with red. Also, they look like smiles.

March 23rd, 2022 - We report: the human eye can only perceive so many frequencies of light, but they feel like an infinity when we are looking at a rainbow. Every nanometer of wavelength we can see is worth cherishing.

April 23rd, 2022 - We report: this is a small bit of a cloud, and an even smaller bit of the sky. To really see it, we had to block off the Sun with one hand, and then - only then were we able to see what makes this minuscule part of the sky so special.

June 20th, 2022 - We report a thunderstorm that skirted around the town. We counted the seconds between lightning and thunder on our fingers, trying to do the math to determine how close the storm was, until there was no lightning. Then, the thunder too boiled down to a low rumble in the distance.

September 11th, 2022 - We report: it is not about loving the sun, the sun simply is. There is nothing without the sun. But on days when rainbows appear - we can see the light shimmer through the raindrops, the rain falls heavier, and the sun shines brighter (and we do love the sun in this moment).
