“Eyes are the Window” alternative cover artworks by L♥DE$T☆R
I took profile shots of everyone (minus myself of course) on my Nikon D3100 and ran each image through some app edits before importing them into photoshop. The vision I had was to make a window with 4 panes, that would represent each of the team members and be rotatable so that it would look different from every perspective. From there I went back and forth between stylistic choices, always with the end goal of having each individual “square” display different color varieties I felt associated with each team member the most; For instance, I prefer cool colors like blue, cyan, and purple, so I tried to have those reflected in my corner of the artwork. Making this artwork was a very gratifying experience for me, because this was the first project the team has ever put out, and listening to the finished mixed and mastered versions of the tracks filled me with pure bliss and excitement. Whenever I make song artwork I always keep the song(s) playing on repeat to help me capture the energy, feel, and vibe of the work, and I especially wanted this artwork to be reflection of that. The music to me sounded very colorful, but the lyrics were deep and even dark at times, providing a steep, yet free-flowing contrast, which I tried to translate into the shadows of the artworks. Ultimately, I was able to create a trippy, ocean, galaxy-like end product which vaguely reminded me of Van Gogh and I was absolutely satisfied with it. I showed the team all of the arts that I came up with so we could vote on the final one, but that was redundant because I knew from the moment I finished the last artwork, that it would be the one. The team unanimously voted for the final cover and I submitted the album to our distributor. The rest is history.
