Afraid of Monsters fanfic
Based on the webcomic by @princsskittnart
Premis: My name is Allen Alchem, and I think we bit off more than we could chew.
Phoebe, Joel, and I were given orders by our boss, Fedosia, to infiltrate some kind of special school for monsters to "help" them "blend" into society or something and recruit an angel named Matthew, an alien named Atlas, and a hunter named Kaz to our cause by any means necessary.
Getting into the school wasn't the problem, I mean it wasn't hard, just show off our "true" forms by "accident" and wait. Some Knights came soon after, some calls were made, and that's how we got on this bus heading to this school.
Now here's where the problems come in. We have no idea how to get out of the school. Either because we got caught for being aligned with the Suite or we successfully recruited the targets. So as far as we know we're trapped behind enemy lines until the school year ends.
Maybe this was a mistake. Maybe we should've just hit the road instead of joining the Suite. Leave our little town behind us. Too late for that now. No going back. Maybe things will get better?

Number 1 asked and answered! Although I'll double-up and say that "identity reveal" and "two characters' first hesitant intimacy" are fuckin' top-tier tropes for me these days for what should be obvious reasons. Delicious, mood-elevating, crop-watering stuff.
3.) What is the main program you use for writing (google docs, the ao3 writing text box, etc.)
Unfortunately it is Google Docs, which I know is bad and I shouldn't, but it is the most convenient and easily accessible on my computer and phone, and sharing documents with betas and friends is way easier than most any other word processor. I should transition off it, start using a proper desktop application again... but what if I have an idea when I'm away from my desk???
11.) Do you prefer writing angst, crack, or fluff?
Used to be angst by a country mile. I thought it was satisfying and more substantial, had more meat to chew on. As I got older, it was fluff, because I enjoyed the gentleness of it, the comfort it provided. These days it's the combo. You need peaks in order to have valleys, y'know? Otherwise it's all just one note, flat, and it doesn't hit as hard as it could, either in terms of hurt OR comfort.
I do tend to go lighter on the angst, though -- I've read great fics dealing with grief and loss and stuff, but I find it hard to dig too deeply into that myself. That being said, I throw pretty fuckin' dark in Taetrus Trash, and that's one I'm still pretty proud of (problematic elements aside) so... I dunno! I think it depends on the vibe of the source material, and the story I'm trying to tell. But "rocks fall everyone dies" style tragedies tend to be too much for me.
19.) Have you ever created an OC for a fic?
QUARK YOU KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS, WHY DID YOU OPEN PANDORA'S BOX
I created like a dozen different Mass Effect OCs, the most prominent of which is probably Alisa Parasini, the interviewer/framing device in Reminiscence. Then I started to build out some recurring supporting characters in my post-canon, like Sawyer the simple Kentucky marine, or Garrus' old C-Sec partner Sorono, or a personal favorite, Batarian scientist-defector Korbin Vorek.
And then there's The Adventure Zone! Lord! Nearly every character who isn't Angus or Taako in Flight of the Flying V is an OC, and I have whole plots and backgrounds for most of them rattling around my head! I do really enjoy Rocco the black-market import-export tiefling and his associate Shiela, or Boudicca, the Lord-Captain of the Neverwinter militia, and I especially enjoy the Herald of Winter, Lord-Steward Katarina Iphigenia Fedosia Blisk, and her lady-in-waiting Priscilla. But you know I gotta give it up for Silvia. God I love her. What a cool, awkward, competent woman who barely managed to luck into someone as nerdy and awkward and sincere as she is. Loved writing her. Still wanna write that sequel someday!
That's to say nothing of one-off supporting characters like Ordus the turian tattoo artist, or Redd the thrift shop owner, or my personal interpretation of the Raven Queen. I'm really proud when I'm able to build a character exclusively for a single short story that feels like they have a whole world and life you're not privy to.
God I just love making characters!! I could do it all day!! And sometimes I do!! Because it's easier than actually writing those characters!!

Ucraina, F-16 sono già in guerra? Gli indizi e le news
Tumblr media
---internazionale/[email protected] (Web Info) Read the full article

I wish you would write a fic where you showed (a part) of Prince Xav's Wife's story (your AUs and Missing Scenes based around the unnamed/forgotten female characters in Vorkosigan are just amazing and I wonder what your take on her character would be)
Yeah, that would be pretty great.
but before I start a new Vorkosiverse WIP, I should probably finish the current one that's a prequel to The Offer and tells the story of how Fedosia killed Ges Vorrutyer and got away with it.

Having someone walk into your life is actually a very astounding thing. That's because they bring their past, their present, and even their future along with them. That’s because someone’s entire life walks behind them like a story and now, you can see how far they’ve come. Their heart is fragile; therefore, it might have been broken. So, too, that heart is coming and with it, all that has yet to heal.

Story Trailer
For every drop of blood that stains the pavement, it came from someone who had every right to be alive.
Whether it was through carnage and death, hope and despair — there was more to humanity’s nature than what could ever be experienced on the battlefield. From the depths of his heart, Fukumori had known this to be true.
He had known the sweet innocence of love and how it burned as quietly as a flame. He had known the somber voice of pining and passion as it had stretched on, for months beyond days. He had known what it meant to be weak, to have wandered down a road when the end was guaranteed. He had known the stillness of a mid-afternoon when justice had turned the other cheek. He remembered that moment as if it was only yesterday. As if restless nights and twelve long years had been nothing more than mere echoes of what felt like a nightmare.
Beyond the crackling flames underneath that October sky, there was absolutely nothing that Fukumori could say at the time. Even now, there was still nothing as a bouquet of lilacs dressed the foot of a grave. Although the name had already faded, it had yet to do so within his heart.
Who are we, as a society, to decide who gets to live and who gets to die?
‘Do for others what they can’t do for themselves’ — three years ago, following the death of the previous Pakhan, Diana Petrova announced that the Hearts would no longer partake in the bloodshed of their past. Despite initial opposition and even confusion from the members, themselves, Petrova neither wavered nor silenced herself. For the sake of its future, for the sake of its surviving members and for their well-being, the Bratva needed to move on from the violence that had stained its history. Accompanying her thoughts to the very end, Petrova concluded with a soft request. She asked for the Hearts to drop their arms and to use their hands for good, rather than for killing, instead.
This was by no means a simple request, and Petrova had already known that before the words fluttered from her lips. Aware of what she had brought to the table, she had no qualms if she was to dine alone. However, if others were to join her for the feast, Petrova would see to it that the death of yet another had no reservation at her table.
When we take justice into our own hands, we bear the heaviness of its price.
If they were to renounce themselves as a monster, Rosencrantz had made it certain that no one ignored the one growing inside of them. Regardless if there was anything to be found or not, wasn’t it better to be thorough when it was all said and done? ‘I agree,’ said the light bulb before it died at Rosencrantz’s feet. Shattered from the whims of its dangling wire, the room plunged into darkness. And yet, nothing different came over Rosencrantz as they moved on with relative ease. A soft rhythm cascaded from their fingertips as bits of twisted metal slipped from an opening in their hand. Like solemn tolls from a church bell, they ricocheted and faltered as soon as they struck the ground. Then and only then, an acrid stench of copper caught up with them.
Nothing, not even their own breaths, felt familiar to them. Nothing, not even their own hands, could forget what had been done. From grain to wheat, from harvest to fall, all of this had been their design. This casualty would just be one of many, and there were many pawns to get rid of before they could checkmate the Queen. This was all part of the plan and yet, a scarce bit of humanity had caught up and forbade them from continuing with the rest.
This was the message, uttered at the struck of midnight when Rosencrantz didn’t pick up their phone: “I know this is the last thing you’d want to hear, but listen to me. Find a new purpose. It could be anything at all. Find something new to pursue and follow where it goes. This revenge you’ve been yearning for, it’s not going to heal the gaping hole in your heart.”
So I’ll ask one more time: Why do you kill?

+This WIP has been in development since March 2017, and I would like to give my sincerest gratitude to @porkcutletbowltrash for encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and write something that genuinely interested me.
+The characters in this story were originally created for a mafia fanfic that I was working on at the time. There was so many backstories and interpersonal arcs going on behind the scenes that I wanted to create an original work where these characters could truly shine. Since then, with the help of @feu-eau and @porkcutletbowltrash, this project became more than just a pipedream. It’s finally real.
+The idea of this story was inspired by a very simple concept: what if there was a mafia that didn’t kill? Curious and intrigued, I wanted to learn what events led to that moment and what was the reasoning behind that choice.

24 Beautiful Garnet Rings
The History of the Garnet Gemstone
The word Garnet comes from the Latin word meaning pomegranate and has been used in jewellery and artwork for many thousands of years. Garnet rings have been found in ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman ruins. Old Jewish text, the Talmud even believed that a garnet gemstone provided the only light on Noah’s ark! In the late 1960’s the discovery of a bright green Grossular garnet in East Africa created waves in the jewellery industry. The green garnet was named “Tsavorite” by the infamous Tiffany’s jewellery firm. Then again in the 1980’s a fiery orange variety of spessartite garnet was discovered on the Angola-Namibian border. These radiant colours brought about a major development in bringing the garnet to the forefront of the exciting gemstones.

Identifying a Garnet
A Garnet can be identified by its occurrence in metamorphic rock, its hardness, refractive index, colour and cubic crystal structure. However, the quickest way to identify garnet is with the use of strong neodymium magnets. Garnet is attracted to neodymium magnets because it contains high concentrations of iron and/or manganese.
Garnet Characteristics
Types of Garnet
Almandine - also known as precious garnet, this type of garnet is a deep transparent red colour. Most of the garnet rings available are made with almandine. Demantoid - a type of Andradite garnet, this type of gemstone comes in shades of green; demantoid also has an extremely high degree of brilliance that is often higher than that of a diamond.  Grossular - also known as hessonite, grossular garnet comes in various shades of green.  Mali Garnet - a cross between grossular and almandine, mali gemstones are in colours ranging from yellow, green-yellow, yellow-brown, and brown.  Pyrope - this type of garnet comes in shades of red ranging from deep blood red to violet red, black-red, a rare blue colour, and some colour changing varieties. Rhodolite - a violet-red variety of Pyrope garnet, treasured for its soft unique colour. Spessartine - a type of garnet which comes in colours ranging from orange-yellow to violet red.  Tsavorite - a highly valuable form of grossular garnet which comes in a distinctive green shade.  Uvarovite - a very rare and valuable bright green garnet.
Colours of the Garnet
Garnet is available in a plethora of colours, such as yellow, orange, peach, green, red, purple, blue, brown and pink. Blue is the rarest and red the most common occurring colour. Garnets also exhibit colour changing qualities depending on whether they are viewed in incandescent or natural light. The rarest colour change garnet appears blue in daylight, and changes to purplish-red under torchlight. Other colour change garnets are green, beige, brown or grey in daylight, and change to reddish or purplish-pink under incandescent light. The most important quality factor is the colour of a Garnet.
Clarity and lustre
Garnet has a glasslike and bright lustre. The rare green Demantoid garnet has a high refractive index and is prized for its brilliance and diamond-like lustre. Garnets are generally clean stones; however, almandine garnets sometimes have asbestos fibre inclusions. These inclusions cause a star effect, which is treasured due to its rarity. Additionally, some orange garnet, such as spessartite and hessonite tends to exhibit eye-visible inclusions. The Russian demantoid garnet is highly for its distinctive, horsetail-like inclusions.
Cut, shape and treatment
Garnets are incredibly adaptable and can be cut into any fashion and shape. Red garnet tends to be cut into standard shapes, whereas valuable garnets that are not often found in large sizes, such as tsavorite and demantoid, are cut into shapes that retain the most carat weight. A Garnet is also never artificially enhanced in any way.
Interesting facts about the Garnet
If you are lucky enough to be born on January then Garnet is your birthstone. Garnet gemstones have the greatest variety of colour than any other mineral and as their chemical composition varies, the atomic bonds in some species are stronger than others. Garnets can be found all over the work, from Greece, India, Russia and even Tanzania! Garnet gems are also extremely durable, remnants of garnet jewellery can even be traced back to the Bronze ages. Legend has it that the Garnet can bring peace, prosperity and good health to the home. It is sometimes even referred to as the “Gem of Faith” and that to those that wear it and do good, more good will come. The Garnet was also used as a talisman for protection both by warriors going into battel and to those who wanted to ward off pestilence and plague. Some ancient healers and wise men even placed garnets in wounds and praised it’s healing powers. The garnet is also meant to symbolise deep and lasting friendships, hence why a garnet is also given to someone whose friendship is deeply valued. The Victorians are well known for making the Garnet popular and some of the loveliest garnet jewellery from the Victorian era mimics it’s pomegranate namesake, with clusters of tiny red gems forming a larger statement piece. In today’s modern times the Garnet can be found in a range of jewellery pieces and styles, from stunning rings to unique earrings. Since the garnet comes in a variety of colours, there is sure to be a Garnet piece that will be perfect for you.
Garnet Engagement Rings
Although almost a dozen varieties of garnet exist, mainly almandine, rhodolite or the highly valued tsavorite garnet are used in engagement rings. Engagement rings are naturally available in a lovely selection of delightful colours. As the Garnet is pretty strong it is perfect for every day wear like engagement and wedding rings. The gemstone is also quite affordable and beautiful to look at. A Garnet engagement rings is a perfect alternative to common ruby or diamond rings if you are looking for something that is a bit more unique. The Garnet symbolises fire, passion and love which is very appropriate for an engagement ring! This year’s most popular garnet shapes for engagement rings include the cushion and emerald cut garnet gemstones. With so many different types and styles of garnet engagement rings and wedding bands available, couples should take their time to learn about the varieties that appeal to them to be sure they are buying an authentic stone for the right price.
Ring buying tips
Whether you are celebrating a 2nd wedding anniversary, after a bit of a different engagement ring or to recognise the wearer’s January birthday, a Garnet ring will be perfect for any occasion! Always ensure that you purchase your ring from a reputable jeweller that is licensed. Look how the gem reacts under light, both natural and synthetic and check for an intense, saturated colour to ensure that your gem is excellent quality. Remember that Garnets commonly come in a wide spectrum of reds, but can also be green, pink, colourless or blue. The price of the piece will likely increase the rare the colour, like blue or green.     Garnets can also be judged along some of the parameters as diamonds in terms of clarity and cut affecting the beauty and value of the stone. Some Garnets like the Dermatoid and Hessonite garnets have inclusions that are part of the beauty of the overall stone. So you may discover that you like the unique look these inclusion bring to the piece. Remember to try and find a cut that spreads light evenly over the surface of the gemstone as this will help to bring out the overall beauty and colour of the garnet. Look out for garnets that have been colour dyed or heat treated to improve their colour as these types of treatments on garnets are highly unstable and dramatically decrease the value of the stones. To ensure that you are purchasing a quality garnet with excellent properties, stick with reputable jewellers and boutiques who specialise in Garnet jewellery. And remember that because garnet has been such a popular jewellery gemstone for hundreds of years, there are plenty of antique, estate and vintage garnet rings available. They should however always come with a certificate of authentication and/or an appraisal. Due to Garnet’s durability and richness of colour, you will not only have a stunning piece of jewellery but also an investment that will stand the test of time.
Caring for your Garnet ring
Depending on the type of garnet stone you have, will depend on the hardness of your gem and how easily it is susceptible to scratches. Although, Garnets have fair to good toughness, making them durable enough for all jewellery styles as long as they are treated with proper care. To care for your Garnet properly follow these handy tips:   Garnets should never be subjected to any hard blows or rough wear. Maybe take your jewellery off while doing the gardening! Garnets are stable to light and chemicals, but they can, however, get damaged by hydrofluoric acid. Cleaning your gem with warm soapy water is always the safest. Ultrasonic cleaners are usually reliable to expect for stones that have fractures and steam is not recommended. If your garnet is fractured, it can rarely be treated by fracture filling and should only be cleaned using warm soapy water.   Caring for your Garnet properly is highly important ensuring that your gem remains in excellent condition
