Spying on the Birds
A Mockingbird at my feeder. For Christmas this year, my wife got me a bird feeder with a video camera. When birds (or, more commonly, enormous fat squirrels) land on the feeder to eat, the camera trips and records them, then pings my phone. Normally, I despise notifications. I resent the intrusion into my time and consciousness, and I aggressively prune notification privileges and offending…

Bit of a volume warning for bird noises, but I've recently been cleaning off this overgrown deck and realized a lot of birds hung around it! So I decided to put out some seed and water in a few spare dishes I found!
Long story short, enjoy a minute and forty two seconds of just tufted titmouses!

I am seeing a lot of ads for for "THE AI BIRD FEEDER" and things like that, and I would like to state that I am not using any of these birdfeeder cameras. For my photos I use a homemade setup with an action camera, and for video and streaming I use Birdsy cameras. Many of the currently available feeder cams appear to be knockoffs (makers saw products in Kickstarter that garnered a lot of attention and then proceeded to quickly produce lesser quality products and flooded the market with them). They are often pricey gadgets and not the quality they may promise to be. My opinion on this is coming from seeing posts in birding groups, as well as my own research for what is out there and promising. I can only recommend Birdsy so far because it is what I use and because I know there is a solid, authentic and diligent team behind it. My general advice would be - do some research, try to find feedback and don’t spend fortunes on bad products.
If you are a maker of a feeder cam, feel free to send me one, I will put it to the test.
Have a great Friday!

I can't get into the whole streetcats feeding cam thing, the knowledge that there's people out there who want to abuse the cats and the terrible mask-off sinophobia in all the YT comments is just unbearable. It's a nice concept but just ruined completely by humans

If you need some wildlife to watch might I suggest the Gettysburg, PA Bird Feeder livestream? You'll see all kinds of birds (doves, cardinals, blackbirds, woodpeckers, finches, even turkeys!), and sometimes squirrels and deer! This is truly one of my favorite wildlife cams and I just wanted to share it!

one of my favorite things to have on the tv in the background is this live birdfeeder cam in gettysburg pennsylvania (on youtube). the noise level blends in nicely with an open window and i get to see birds
like while i'm working or doing something else and it's just. mourning doves and bluejays and finches and woodpeckers and grackles and whatnot. sometimes when it's quiet of other birds a big fucking crow will land on the platform feeder and stack as many peanuts in it's mouth as it can, like it's doing one of those wood block puzzles. and in the evenings deer come through and graze. and sometimes it'll be mildly exciting. bird drama! or sometimes there'll be a bird carefully inspecting the camera. but mostly it's chill.
idk it's just nice
