Clark the Pickup Artist

You know my disclaimer, yada yada writing this Oct of 2022 pre-game release any inconsistency is owing to the fact I'm working from the demo. Also this is very unedited and was sparked from one idea, and the writing is being fueled by boba.

“Gah Peter!” Cadence squealed as Peter pulled her off of the ground “P-put me down!” Peter chuckled and lifted her higher into the air.

“Not until you admit that I’m the best!” Peter’s smirk was audible, even from the distance Clark was at. “C’mon Cadence, you know you wanna.” 

Cadence’s laugh pierced through the air and Clark’s heart in one fell swoop. “Ok, ok! Oh Peter-” She giggled and leaned in closer to Peter. “You are the best squad leader Peter!”

Clark felt a rush of heat to his face. He knew that he was the best squad leader, so why couldn’t she see that. “It’s not like I care what she thinks.” Clark huffed under his breath. And tightened his grip on his clarinet. “I mean honestly he practically had to force her to say that! Obviously she knows I am actually the best!”

One of the freshmen from a different section snorted, and as he whipped his head around he saw the flautist scuttering away towards Felicity. He couldn't make out what they were saying but he knew it could be nothing pleasant, especially with Felicity involved. “Clark~” Felicity trilled as she sauntered over to him and placed one of her hands on his chest. “I know you're the best squad leader, in every way.” He took a quick step back and defensively put his clarinet between them.

“I am not even going to dignify that with a response.” Clark said. Felicity pouted and stepped towards him again, causing him to back up again. 

Peter smirked and sauntered up behind his girlfriend, and wrapped an arm around her chest. “Babe-” Clark didn’t stick around long enough to hear where this conversation was going, as he quickly scampered his way over to Cadence.

“Oh, hi Clark!” Cadence turned towards him and smiled widely. “Are you here to offer another conducting lesson? I’m really-” She started, but she stopped as Clark impulsively wrapped his arms around her “C-Clark?!”

Clark realized with a start that he had not thought this entirely through. He gently tried to lift her and felt his face flush more as he barely got her an inch above the ground. Cadence’s giggle shook him back to reality. Quickly he let her go and stepped back, quickly backing up. “Clark.” Cadence stepped closer to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Lift with your tight ass”

The Muse is a 18+ slice of life interactive fiction novel set at NYU focusing mostly on the art departments in the Steinhardt and Tisch schools. Inspired by my love for shows and movies like Felicity, Fame (the show), Skins UK, and Center Stage. This will not be an accurate depiction of school life at NYU, I'll be taking lots of creative liberties.

You come from a family of artists and art lovers. Your mother is a passionate curator for a small gallery in the city and your father is a sculptor and painter with a very dedicated cult following. They met when they were just starting out and have built a lovely life for themselves and their two children, you and your older brother Cameron.

Your parents have always been super supportive of you and your brother’s dreams and ambitions. They were a great source of encouragement and guidance for your brother on his path to discovering his goal to become a game designer and you on your path to become whatever you choose.

Growing up surrounded by such creativity just so happened to inspired you to want to create something of your own.

Now that you’ve graduated high school it’s time for you to head off to university! You’ve decided to leave the mid sized city that you call your hometown, and go to the big city NYC! Roxanne/Robbie Sawyer: (f/m) The lead singer and guitarist of The Rebel Rejects. Ro is everything you would want in a lead singer cool, charismatic, and super talented. Don’t let their dazzling aura intimidate you though because though they may have a raging wild side they can also be extremely down to earth.

Joleen/Johnny Nielsen: (f/m) The drummer of The Rebel Rejects. Jo is the oddball of the band with a sunny exterior and twisted flower child past. They may be a sweet boho bimbo with a heart of gold, but there’s a lot more that lies behind those blue green eyes.

Delphine/Desmond Hartley: (f/m) The bassist for The Rebel Rejects. De is the super glue propelling the group forward. With high expectations from her parent, and dreams that soar even higher, success is the only option.

Rina/Ren Fukushi: (f/m) R is the best ballet dancer in this incoming freshman class, and no one would ever think to say otherwise. They’re cold and closed off, if it isn’t about ballet then they don’t want to hear it.

Everly/Everett Thompson: (f/m) Eve is a triple threat. Singing, dancing, acting they can do it all. They hope to complete their EGOT before they turn 40.

Karla Reyes: (she/her) Karla is a sophomore at NYU studying Studio Arts. Their favorite medium is watercolor on canvas. They’ve dabbled with sculpting and ceramics...until they broke up with their ex, Faye, and can’t stand to be in the same studio with them.

Faye Winters: (she/they) Fae is every bit the ethereal being they seem to be, and just as flighty. She is a sophomore majoring in dance with a minor in studio arts. She has this effortless charm and beauty that extends to her art whether its her dancing or her sculptures.

Sebastien Auclair: (he/him) Sebastien is in his third year of university, he’s an exchange student from the Paris College of Art. He is studying photography and imaging. Sebastian loves Paris, but he is excited for this change of scenery.

Maxine Matthews: (she/her)Max is your best friend in the world! Your parents are friends so you were destined to best pals since birth, thank god you actually like each other or all those shared family functions would have been really awkward. Max is funny and always has great commentary for every show or movie that you watch together. Which is why you weren’t surprised when they decided to major in dramatic writing. Some people think that you’re too close. They wonder how is it possible that you could be just friends.

Silas Walker: (he/him) Silas is your RA. As your Resident Advisor he's super helpful and friendly. You have question about the best study spots, bad professors, how to use the subway, well he's got answers. He keeps all his advisees at arms length because everyone knows RAs can't canoodle with their advisees. And that just makes it all the more enticing.

With that being said, this interview is unfiltered so that you can form your own thoughts and opinions on the people that we interview. We here at Wasted Years news stand by our decision of only printing the truth and not watering it down-no matter how many threats we receive from managers, lawyers, and angry rockstars alike.  

We want to say that we have never, in all of our years, had an interview go like this one did. 

Recently, Felicity Cash sat down for a one on one exclusive with lead singer of Corroded Coffin, Eddie Munson, today to see how the life of fame really is. He burst through the scene from out of nowhere and took the industry by storm with his killer guitar skills and raspy vocals. There is not a person on the planet who doesn’t know who Corroded Coffin is, no matter what music genre you prefer. 

In typical rockstar fashion, Eddie Munson arrived late to this interview due to traffic on the interstate. He sauntered in with his manager close behind, dressed in his usual black attire and jewelry. There was smeared make up under his eyes, red lipstick and hickies on his neck, as well as the smell of booze clinging to his clothing. 

The following is the full transcript of the interview:

I just wanted to start this interview off by saying congratulations on your success. We are a little bit crunched for time now so I’m just going to get right into it. Growing up, did you ever see yourself in the position you are in now? 

Not at all. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this a lot in interviews before, but I grew up pretty poor in a trailer park in Indiana. I didn’t have much besides my uncle, my friends, and music to get me through. If you would have told me then how I would be on top of the world now, I don’t think I would believe you. 

Eddie spread his arms and legs out, leaning back in his chair like he was the king, and he was sitting on his throne. He looked down at the people in the room.

And is that how you feel? On top of the world? 

Of course I do. I have everything. Every day is a fucking party. I have women begging to be with me and every man in the world wants to be me. I can’t see how it gets any better than that. 

Okay then. Would you say that music was a big part of your household growing up? 

My-yeah, my mom. She used to sing a lot. Just around the house. She’d sing when doing laundry and the dishes. She had a nice voice and when I was younger I used to think she sang better than the women on the radio. I don’t know. I was really young. I don’t really remember. 

This question seemed to catch Eddie a little off guard. There was a glisten in his eye when he spoke of his mother. You could tell he was reminiscing on some fond memories. 

Sounds like some of that talent got passed down. 

Maybe. I don’t know. 

Speaking of talent, you are considered one of the best guitar players in the world. Have you ever played any other instruments?

I played clarinet in the school band in middle school to get out of gym class. I wasn’t very good at it. If you put a clarinet in front of me today I wouldn’t know what to do with it. 

I don’t think I can imagine you playing the clarinet. I wanted to ask you about one of my favorite songs by you guys. Your most recent single Tell Her is much slower than your normal stuff. Fans are calling it your one and only love song. May I ask who your muse was? Is there someone special we should keep an eye out for?

I’m not fucking answering that. 

Eddie’s manager paused the interview for a moment to whisper something in Eddie’s ear. Some crew members have mentioned seeing his manager hand him a pill of some sort which Eddie took immediately. We are not sure what he said or what was given to Eddie but it didn’t seem to deter him or help with calming him down. 

Let’s get back on track. Earlier you mentioned your uncle. How is he doing these days? Would you say he influenced your career in any way? 

My uncle has basically killed himself trying to raise me and keep me fed. He didn’t have to do that but he did. He doesn’t like talking to me anymore. He thinks I’m a disappointment. I offered to buy him another big old fancy house and he doesn’t even want to live here with me. 

I’m sure he doesn’t think you’re a disappointment, Eddie. I had a question for you and the answer might be obvious. Do you ever get performance anxiety? If you once did, how did you overcome it?

Fuck no. Why would I get anxiety? 

It was just a question. I know it’s something a lot of people in the industry struggle with. How about those friends you mentioned earlier? Are they still by your side?

Yeah. Jeff, Garreth, Grant-they’re all great. They’re my best friends. They were all losers like me too, ya’know? Just a bunch of losers that grew up and got a shit load of money…

Myself and the crew started to notice Mr. Munson dozing off in his seat. His manager, who we now know by the name of Don, had to get Eddie awake by splashing water in his face. Despite his manager's persistent advice, Eddie decided to continue the interview. 

I just want to check before we continue that you are okay, Eddie? If you want we can stop the interview now. 

 Fuck no. I got up and drove all the way down here for this so we’re finishing it. 

Okay. I just want to make it clear we can stop this at any point. 

Fine. 

I just wanted to ask you a few more questions before we let you go for the day. Do you have any advice for any young people who want to be where you are today? 

I would say don’t let anyone hold you back. No one really matters except for yourself. And if you think you can be the new me then think of something else to do because I’m not going anywhere any time soon. 

That might be harmful advice. Don’t you think?

What is this? A damn therapy session? It’s the fucking truth though. Do you not want me to answer your bullshit answers truthfully? 

We noticed that Eddie was not well and his speech was slurring. We made the decision to ask one more question and to cut the interview short. 

Of course we want you to answer truthfully and sorry if it’s coming across that way. I’m sure you’ve read one of our interviews and seen our interview style before. One more question before you go, Eddie. I’ve been wanting to ask you this since you mentioned your friends earlier that there was one friend you left out of your answer. I’ve read in previous interviews of yours that you and a certain actress have been very close. I was wondering how your relationship is with her now and if you are still close with her and her boyfriend Collin-

At this point the once drowsy and uninterested Eddie came to life. It was evident that the question pushed a button. His answer was followed by him jumping out of the chair, clearly angered. 

No! Hell no. You do not get to ask me about her. 

I’m sorry. I don’t have it in my notes not to ask you about that. So, there is drama there? 

The interview then ended abruptly when Eddie Munson decided to pick up the chair he was once sitting in and threw it across the room, nearly hitting a crew member. We decided to end the interview there, and after a brief discussion with his manager, decided not to press charges since there was no injury to anyone on set. 

Eddie Munson was escorted from the property by security with a ban from ever coming back. We wish him the best and hope he finds the help he needs. 

After a lot of thought we decided to continue with publishing this interview to show the public the truth. We will let you form your own opinions.

“Oh my gosh, you’re going to love her! She’s a pop star, just like you guys!” You excitedly said to your siblings. Your girlfriend was coming over to meet your family, and you couldn’t wait for them to meet her!

“A pop star? Huh, maybe we’ve heard of her. What’s her name?” Veneer asked.

“You’ll soon find out! She should be here any minute!”

As if on cue, you heard a knock at the front door. You sprinted to answer it, absolutely ecstatic. Velvet and Veneer followed, curious about your girlfriend. Their smiles dropped as soon as they saw who was on the other side of the door.

Sapphire Serenade. Also known as Felice. Also known as their rival. She was always number two on the music charts. Just one spot behind them. Velvet hated her, despite never meeting her in person. Veneer didn’t particularly like her either, but his dislike wasn’t nearly as strong as his sister’s.

You linked your arm in Felice’s, and led her inside. “Guys, meet Felice!” You said, completely oblivious to the three’s relationship.

Felice held her hand out for the twins to shake, a friendly smile on her face. “Hey guys! Nice to finally meet you!”

Velvet held her hand away in disgust, avoiding eye contact and refusing the conversation. Veneer just mumbled a “Hey.”, also not looking at her. Felice awkwardly put her hand down.

You weren’t sure how you were expecting them to react, but it wasn’t this. The obvious dislike Velvet and Veneer held on their faces sparked only confusion for you. “What’s wrong, guys?” You asked.

Velvet scoffed, and looked at you. “(name), can we talk to you please? Alone?”

“Oh… okay.” You responded, even more confused. Before fulfilling her request, you led Felice to the living room. After telling her to wait, and that you’d be right back, you met the twins in the kitchen.

“So what did you wanna talk about?” You asked.

“Are you kidding? How could you do that?!” Velvet verbally attacked.

You jumped, not expecting her to raise her voice at you. “Do what? What are you talking about? And more importantly, why are you so mad?”

“Sapphire Serenade is our rival!” Velvet stated.

“Yeah! Don’t you know that she’s always behind us on the music charts?” Veneer chimed in.

“Pfft. I’m sure she just wants to find a way to surpass us.” Velvet said.

You gasped, offended by her accusation. “Velvet! Felice would never do that! She’s not like that at all! She’s so kind, and she just wanted to meet her idols!” You raised your voice at her.

Velvet and Veneer’s expressions softened. They turned to look at each other, seemingly in shock.

“Her idols?” Veneer asked.

“Yeah. She looks up to you guys. She loves your music too.” You responded.

The twins got quiet. A look of mild regret and guilt on their faces.

“Just give her a chance, guys. She’s really nice, and I’m sure you’ll like her.” You pleaded.

Veneer looked up from the floor. “Okay.”

You smiled, and turned your attention towards Velvet.

She let out a sigh, still not looking at you.

“Fine.”
