The casting in 90’s Don Bluth films always hit so weird because they would cast ALL of these fairly well known actors and then (with the exception of, like Robin Williams as Batty and even then you cannot hide Robin Williams) there was just NOTHING there beyond voice to indicate oh that’s x actor and sometimes you’d have to be hella familiar with that actor to recognize the voice. When Disney pulls big names, they will not let you forget about it for a second (Phil just looks like Danny DeVito; Mushu looks like Eddie Murphy, etc), but in those Don Bluth films it was like Hank Azaria came in with a Polish accent to play a bat, and wait oh hey now Nathan Lane is playing a greasy predatory straight alien (well I’m fairly sure he played Preed as bisexual or at least a deeply closeted predatory straight but that’s another rant), which I mean NATHAN LANE. HE WAS TIMON!! When you see Timon you think Aw yeah that’s Nathan Lane. I CONTINUOUSLY FORGET Nathan Lane plays Preed until it slaps me upside the head. IT IS JUST NATHAN LANE’S NORMAL VOICE ONLY EVIL GUYS.

I dare you to look, at the very least, the cast lists of Ferngully, Anastasia, and Titan AE and have your mind blown if you haven’t already.
