Diwali, the Festival of Lights, signifies the victory of illumination over obscurity, virtue over vice and wisdom over ignorance. It is a period for families to reunite, host giant feasts and exchange presents with one another. Diwali embodies and emphasizes a celebration of the triumphant victory of good over evil.
India has its own bull run. Photo story.
A small city popularly in Rajasthan known as Nathdwara hosts a victory festival a day after Deepawali every year. Known as the ‘Khekra Festival’ or ‘Govardhan Pooja of Nathdwara,’ this festival comprises a ‘bull run’, akin to ‘Encierro’, the ‘bull run’ festival of Spain. However, in the Indian festival you can see as many cows as bulls. The Indian festival celebrates the triumph of Lord Krishna over Lord Indra when the former saved the villagers from the cruelty of Lord Indra (by lifting the Govardhan Parbat on his little finger). The victory of Lord Krishna is depicted by bulls running on the streets.
Pagans celebrate on the same 25 December, the birthday of the Sun, at which they kindled lights in token of festivity. It is a joyous winter festival honouring the the god of agriculture — and the return of the sun. In these solemnities and revelries, the Christians also took part.
Historians argue about the exact relation between Saturnalia and Christmas — the holiday that, by many accounts, grew out of it. Or perhaps, co-opted it. But, for all, it is an occasion to celebrate and look forward to new beginnings.
Happy Saturnalia/Christmas magickal ones. Hope your day is blessed. 💙💙

Went to see the lights, it wasn't fully dark yet. But we will go back over Christmas. Every year one of the nursing homes in our community does the trees. Last year I was too small to walk, this year I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want to leave. #drovertheacd #healingheeler #blueheeler #australiancattledog #bluehealer #cattledogs #heeler #australiancattledogsofinstagram #australiancattlepuppy #blueheelersofinstagram #cattledog #heelerchristmas #blueheelerchristmas #festivaloflights #christmastrees (at Pine Grove Nursing Home) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmbVtuZuHdp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
