I rest my case. My case? This was an exercise of hubris and futility.
I could’ve been working on an actual drawing but no, I red-lined character models instead because why not.
What I actually think:
There is 100% enough nuance in their designs and features to theorize who Sephiroth’s father is. Yes, in canon, Hojo is said to be his father but there is enough to theorize about Vincent being Sephiroth’s father as well.
Sephiroth definitely takes after Lucrecia the most of course. Especially in the nose, chin, and eyes. But you can also see Hojo’s hairline in Sephiroth and Vincent’s nose length. You can also see elements of Vincent’s eye shape as well in Sephiroth but I think it more so is a masculine version of Lucrecia’s eyeshape. There’s probably more, but I’m tired.
My conclusion: Sephiroth takes after Lucrecia too much to be 100% about seeing Hojo’s or Vincent’s features when we take into consideration things like scrapped concepts that were still kept in the design. Like Sephiroth and Aerith having the same/similar bangs because they were originally going to be siblings.

FFVII Remake P2 : theory dump
Time to type up some FFVII remake theories and get everything wrong (but that’s part of the fun).
SPOILERS ahead for FFVII/FFVII Remake/INTERmission DLC/Crisis Core
Many in the fandom have theorised that Zack & Cloud (at the end of FFVII remake) are in an alternate timeline, because the Stamp dog shown on the bag of crisps is a different breed than the majority of Stamp artwork shown throughout the rest of the game. My alternative take on this is that the different Stamp design could be an ‘older’ version of Stamp - after all, the bag was flying around the desert outside of Midgar, like an old piece of trash.
So instead of being in an alternate timeline they are in the past of Remake!Cloud (similar to the Original!Cloud’s timeline, only unlike the original, Zack is now alive). Zack supports a comatose-like Cloud back to Midgar.
Zack tries to visit Aerith, as in the cutscene at the end of Intermission DLC, but there is no Aerith in the church. Zack & Cloud hideout in the slums, with Cloud still in a comatose state, and he has strange visions of the future (as does Cloud himself in the main FFVII remake) including himself carrying the Bustersword. The pair are forcibly split apart (possibly due to Shinra/Turks/Whispers?), and Cloud ends up with the sword (Cloud takes it, or is given it by Zack). Zack is captured by Shinra, and as Cloud can’t re-unite with Zack, he ends up wandering the slums, eventually ending up at the train station. Cloud is then found by Tifa, and the plot resumes as it was in the original FFVII and the remake - Jenova manipulates Cloud’s memories into giving him a false persona of a first class soldier, and he then goes on to join Avalanche for their Bombing mission.
Zack ends up at Shinra HQ and is re-captured/imprisoned/experimented on by Hojo (do the Whispers have any power, or are events now free to flow?). Zack is tested on in the lower floors of Deepground, where he meets the other members, and a possessed Sonon (who is eventually freed from his possession). Parallel in time to the main party and their fight with Sephiroth, Zack and Sonon try to escape Shinra, but the Whispers prevent the pair from leaving Midgar (as shown when Rufus Shinra is within HQ, looking out at the swirling Whispers which almost form a ‘dome’ around the building). The Whispers are still trying to keep the events on track, despite Destiny having been defeated. They are trying to prevent both Sonon and Zack from joining the main party, though they are eventually able to escape, for a future reunion on their unknown journey...
Quickfire theory time:
- At some point in the game, Zack eventually meets up with Tseng (who is reluctant to give him the letters from Aerith due to his own personal feelings)
- Zack is ‘re-united’ with Genesis (in Deepground?)
- Zack’s original ‘fate’ was altered - but by who? Was it Aerith or Sephiroth who changed time? Or was it accidental? I think it was Aerith, who, in sensing that Sephiroth was trying to alter history, tried also to alter it in a way that may be able to make a positive change.
That’s all I got. My brain is tired. Also, my guess is that part 2 will be released in 2024/2025.

FFVII Remake Theories Time 😁
Tumblr media
Another theory that is quite interesting to hear about (about the parts titles) :
https://youtu.be/h7vBe8ygMrU
I have my own predictions, I'll play bingo with my predictions and if it happens, which I believe most of it will happen, then, I'll be happy with my own clairvoyance's ability.

I noticed something in the new FF7 Rebirth trailer
Sephiroth reveals the nature of Jenova and her ability but why?
Sephiroth never even revealed Jenova like this in the OG as a part of his plan, so why is he doing this? Isn't revealing her nature the last thing Sephiroth wanted to do?
Here's what I think is happening, Sephiroth is being forced to work against Cloud. He traveled back in time, still tethered to Jenova, hoping to stop her and save the planet from whatever destiny it's tethered to (yet it also has consequences as we see in the alternative timeline)
Sephiroth is doing this of his own will
Yet he's still shackled to Jenova, so he needs Cloud's help in order to break free from her, but Jenova is taking advantage of Cloud's shattered mental state and false persona, so it's like a godly game of tug a war.
I think the Sephiroth who's manipulating Cloud and trying to convince him that Tifa isn't real is the past version of him from the OG, while the real Sephiroth, the one who we've been following all along, is trying to break free from destiny's grasp, stop Jenova and save the planet.
I could be wrong, and this is just a retelling of the OG, but I don't buy that one bit, especially when both the developers and part of the story say otherwise. Anyways, that's what I grabbed from this scene.

Sephiroth's mental breakdown was nailed perfectly. The raw emotions and him realizing Gast was no better than Hojo... Oh man... Rebirth is gonna be amazing
Game isn't even out and it's already one of my favorite scenes. The music. The buildup to it. THE JENOVA CLOSEUPS. The superb voice acting. (yes, I think Tyler Hoechlin does a fine job)
The only thing that seemed iffy was cutting out some of Sephiroth's monologue about the Cetra and traitor thing.
And you know what, I like Rebirth's slight retcon. In this version, it's much more about Sephiroth, providing a clearer understanding of why he succumbed to darkness. This man and boy (since young Sephiroth is his inner child that's always with him) finally discovered the ugly "truth" about the twisted experiments that made him and the other monsters. He always wondered about his purpose, and this was it. All those years of abuse and exploitation... were done at his expense because he's a monster. The few people that did love and support him? No, no such thing. They're no different from his tormentors. He felt so alone and lost.
The Nibelheim Incident is pretty much his trauma reaching a breaking point. I can see how difficult it was for some to discern for some this nuance in the OG (and even in CC) because they focused more on Sephiroth developing an ego complex from more obviously, outdated information. This retcon is more closer to the truth, the only erroneous thing being that Jenova was an ancient. It's an amazing fix and does a great job in humanizing Sephiroth. I absolutely loved how they used the Jung Shadow. I'm a psychology nerd. You basically watched the death scene of Sephiroth's old identity, especially notice how prominent his shadow is. It's meant to show his inner conflict and then his transformation.
Tumblr media
He became exactly what he never wanted to be.
Anyways, another thing to note: what was a bit weird in the original game and the compilation is the strange shift in Sephiroth's beliefs and motivations. At first, he believed himself to be a Cetra and had a divine right to rule over the planet. Then, he transitions to wanting to destroy the planet at the beginning of FF7, seemingly abandoning any claims to Cetra heritage. We know why his motivations changed, but it feels odd not getting more expansion on it after they just suddenly threw that bit of information at us. I believe this retcon should help smooth out that awkward transition. It's a great feeling that one item from my wish/check list might be addressed.
And you know another thing I fucking loved Rebirth's portrayal of the Nibelheim Incident? They didn't back off from Sephiroth's villainy and sadism. I already made a post about it here, but holy fuck. He is out for blood. Everyone and everything in his path had to suffer, just like he did. They don't deserve to continue to live life so happy and normal.
Sephiroth really did not deserve any of the shit he was put through, but that will never not excuse the atrocities he committed in Nibelheim. I was honestly scared to see how the writers would humanize Sephiroth, but so far, they seem to do a great job of it. Hopefully, the full game can keep it up.
The demo still has some issues with Sephiroth and how the gameplay works, though.

I feel like, while the other characters will be grieving Aerith's death, Cloud will be less "sad" because he knows Aerith still "lives" somewhere and he can see her again.
And with all this "different worlds coming together" talk and what the producer Yoshinori Kitase said about spending nearly 30 years with FFVII's characters, he wants to make them happy and give them a happy ending, it makes me think of a possibility where these two could find each other again and be together.
For example, Zack and Aerith get out of the "limbo" between realities and come to Cloud's world (Zack's world doesn't exist anymore). So in the end Cloud gets both his best friend and the woman he loves back.
However, he also said that the rest of the team would also be taken into consideration, so it won't just be "happiness and rainbows", so... Good luck everyone.

I just had the worst thought ever!
What if this is Zack and not Sephiroth? o_0
Tumblr media
It's just a crazy theory, not to be taken seriously. BUT! What if Jenova messes with Clouds mind, making him see things? While Zack did some matrix bs and got to the current timeline?
(I don't understand half the things that are happening in this remake)
Here Cloud attacks him and either Zack doesn't realize he's going to strike him or just let's him do it. Why? Idk man. Sephiroth just feels out of place and character here and if it was Zack that would make it so much more ✨tragic✨
I have it lot more detailed and layered in my head but I don't even know where this story is going at this point. Let's just hope I'm wrong 🥲👍
(EDIT : thank god I was wrong)

Sephiroth is making my brain FIZZ this is so fun.
First of all, his voice actor in advent children???
Tumblr media
The new remake one is excellent but just doesn't capture that same level of terrifying cultured menace. The smug evenness and it's DEEP wow yeah. So smooth. High key petrifying I don't know who he is but he did an outstanding job. That bit where he asks cloud to 'give him the pleasure of taking it away?' like the way his voice lilted up in casual question like good GRIEF that was hot.
Anyway I have another hc: sephiroth would have made an EXCELLENT scientist like his parents, he's certainly got the intellect and hunger for knowledge, not to mention his ability to do research for days on end XD. Supernova actually using astrophysics equations is absolutely fantastic and makes me think that's what he'd major in.
By that logic, he'd want to be in rocket town with the rocket, and he'd most definitely want to go to space himself if it was the last thing he did (ha).
Do you think he'd tie his hair back like his mum?
Anyway I imagine if he hadn't been a soldier and instead been free to choose his own path he'd have been right there the whole time being a child genius and getting into fights with cid about who gets to be the pilot (Co pilots. Co pilots is how it's supposed to work with normal planes never mind things that breach the atmosphere).
Like I understand the amount of redemption/fix it fics that have him be a merc with cloud or whatever but I feel we're ignoring the possibilities stemming from the fact this man canonically knows modern astrophysics and that is absolutely not something you can inherit via way of ancient inhuman semi deceased life form.
