A friend of Lunar, Akiki Aki, owner of Club Dote in Dynamis, was working on their venue. fter having things mostly ready, her admins at the time, took 70 mil from her venue, and deleted important documents from the discord (pay structure, menu, prices, rules, court handbook, vip tiers/benefits) As for Akiki, we at Lunar would like to support her and get her things back. That is why Wiki and i will donate some gil, and i plan to do a 'charity' stream to raise gil for Akiki. I will also reach out to the community itself and see if they can help out too. my sister got me into ffxiv (finally) and she was absolutely correct, i am enjoying it sooooo much, and I'm only at lvl 15 on the msq but the storyline is incredibly good so far??? i'm arcanist planning on going scholar for main, BUT i'm leveling arcanist up faster than the msq (currently lvl 21 arcanist) so i think i'm going to start leveling archer or marauder once i hit lvl 30 on arcanist just so i don't outpace the msq. (i always play healers or ranged/magic dps in games, BUT i kinda want to try a tank class just because i've never done it, and also because i assume i'll eventually want to level everything since you can do all jobs on a single character, so why not!) i'm not on her server tho sooooo i'm hoping it becomes uncongested on the next patch so i can either start a new character on her world and/or pay to transfer my character over. this would normally be ramblings over on twitter but i'm not really using twitter anymore so now y'all gotta listen to me over here!!!!! (sorry lmao <3)

“You may be my brother, Artemoux, but you have CROSSED the line. They are my children, not yours. And I will not allow you to fill their heads with such nonsense!” 

Aloysius’ finger jabbed against the chest of his brother, who despite the former’s fury remained as calm and collected as if he were staring into the maw of a dragon opening for its next morsel. “Lest you have forgotten, our House sits upon a precipice where one side means prosperity, and the other means absolute destruction, or at the very least boundless shame.” 

“Perhaps you should have considered the fate of your family name before absconding with a High House maidservant and making her your lady bride. As I recall, it was marrying Amandine that brought this pall of embarrassment upon you and I, and saw us all but excised from the affairs of House Durendaire and forged into pariahs. If either of us are responsible for the predicament our House finds itself in, it is most assuredly you. And that which you call nonsense is a path which is good and honourable for them both. Honour that could be restored to our name, and to the status of our House. But instead, you cling to the vain hopes that you can use your children as bargaining chips, marrying off Brielle and consigning Faiolan to the doom of following in your footsteps.”

“And you think it better that I throw their lives away on the field of battle, wrestling with dragons and Imperial legions? Bad enough you’ve been filling the boy’s head with fanciful tales of adventure since he practically crawled from the womb, but now my daughter as well?”

“And what is so fanciful about her defending her home from our oldest and most ferocious enemy? If she wishes to walk the path of the dragoon, then you should be dropping to your knees in gratitude that she would sacrifice of herself so much for our nation. As for Faiolan, he too does not share your pitiful ambitions for him. He aspires to the heights of the Heaven’s Ward, and even as one so young, I find it hard to deny that he could ascend to it if given the proper encouragement.”

“Pitiful? You would call my ambition pitiful? Simply because I seek the surest way to bring about our House’s rise with the lowest risk to mine own blood?”

“They are my blood as well, brother. Yet unlike you, I do not only consider their lives but the way they wish to live them. Brielle does not have ambitions of being a housewife, any more than I wish to be a cobbler. And Faiolan will not thrive ‘neath the weight of balanced accounts and laborious meetings. The blood of our ancestors burns too hotly within him for him to be contained by such shackles.”

The longer Artemoux went on, bandying about the childrens’ desires rather than their best interests, the deeper shade of crimson Aloysius’ face grew, to the point where he resembled a rolanberry and threatened to burst betwixt a pair of pinching fingers. Artemoux, ever the expert of knowing when to advance and when to retreat whether it be with lance or with words, saw the opening for another thrust. 

“You believe that because you emerged from our mother moments before, that your word is that of Halone herself so far as we Penderghasts are concerned. I am here to tell you that you are wrong, and just as father never got everything that he wished for the both of us, neither will you receive that which you so rabidly desire from your own offspring. Better to lift them up and help them take flight than to pin them down in a gilded cage. Recall as I said, that if not for your own indiscretion, we would not find ourselves in a predicament from which you desperately believe you must save us from. You spat in the face of our father when you married for love, and yet you would seek to tie the strings of your daughter to men whom she may have never even meant. But so long as you are clear from the consequences of your actions, you can ensure that your children suffer them instead.”

Like a dragon taking a spear through its very heart, Aloysius grew limp and devoid of life, for nary a moment. A long, drawn out sight escaped his lips, the only indication that he had not succumbed to the wounds of their verbal sparring. “My… indiscretion, as you called it, most assuredly placed us in this position. And though you believe that I seek to doom my children for mine own sins, I do it to spare them from the anguish of them. I do not believe I made a mistake in marrying Amandine. My love for her burns bright as the stars above by which we chart our destinies. But others, you included, call it as such, a grave error, and continue to punish me for it. I have already crossed that bridge, and burned it in my wake. I will not allow Brielle and Faiolan to fan those flames into consuming our entire lives.”

Artemoux thought the battle won, but his brother displayed more resilience than he’d expected. However, his expression softened, and his hand found Aloysius’ shoulder. “I do not think your love for your wife was ever a mistake, brother. And I would never begin to punish you for following your heart’s yearning towards happiness and bliss. I merely bid you to consider that allowing your children to do the same, to follow passion rather than tradition, may not be the worst course. Even if it brings about the end of our House in whatever official capacity we have left… is not their joy, the same stripe that you no doubt felt on the day of your wedding, worth more than legacy?”

A FFXIV Alt Rant

I know, I feel like I'm negative with my posts here if they're text-based on tumblr, but it's nice to be able to just get my thoughts out there.

I find the alt-unfriendliness super frustrating in FFXIV. Before someone comes at me with "BUT YOU CAN LEARN ALL JOBS ON ONE CHARACTER!" I don't care. I don't play the game for multiple jobs/classes. FFXIV combat system is kinda flavorless for me.

I play FFXIV for RP & housing. I used to collect (in World of Warcraft) but I don't bother to do that in FFXIV anymore because nothing is shared with alts, and a lot of it isn't market-sellable, so I can't trade it to a friend then pass it to alts either.

It just is a huge, frustrating thing as someone who really likes having multiple characters with multiple stories.

I have to go through MSQ on every single alt, or buy the skip, which is ridiculous in pricing. I don't know why skips can't apply to multiple alts, and I don't care that my spent money is 'helping the game'. It's a bit ridiculous that I'd need to be looked to to 'fund the game' with microtransactions or waste time on each and every alt to story skip.

Not getting a level skip for alts is fine, but the fact that FFXIV REQUIRES you to go through the MSQ to advance through the game is ridiculous if you have a character on that account that has already before.

I get that I'm a rare type of player, and that the XIV RP community comes across as far more casual/less story based (it's my impression from the wider community. Sorry.) than I am used to, coming from a different game. I like multiple conflicts/plotlines and complexities, and am not into the venue/bar scene.

I love this game, given I've been playing it for years now and have put a lot into it, but I have plenty of complaints like I would any other game, and it feels like bringing up ANY complaint at all, be it things like this or story-based complaints (like the utter RELIANCE on nostalgia/'need to play many previous games to get the references or enjoy this part of it') will toss fanatics who defend the game at every twist and turn and flaw no matter what at me.

I don't know.

It's just a rant, I know nothing's going to change, and I know it will likely be alt-unfriendly forever because "you can have all jobs on one character" which again - does not appeal to me in the slightest.

Sigh...

6.2 MSQ ramblings by your local Golbez fan

Partner and I finished the entire thing in one sitting last night. Here's my thoughts now that I'm more awake, in vaguely chronological order...

(Tl;dr more FFIV callbacks than you can shake a spoony bard at!)

Varsahn getting a new adult mammet body is a brilliant way to reference Rydia's return as an adult without having to actually use a child character for the role or doing some kind of timey bullshit.

Troia is brilliant. I was losing my mind over the music the entire time...

Speaking of Troia, let's get this out of the way because I've been obnoxious about it on Twitter, Discord, and in-game: HI MY IRL NAME IS BEATRICE. It's me. I feel so seen as a big FFIV fan. Thank you whichever dev did this.

of course, the choice of name isn't really because of random FFIV fans like me. Beatrice is obviously an extension of the Dante's Inferno theme that begins with the Archfiends.

Also, the creepy statues jumpscared me!

Beatrice's mechanics are a nice mixup of the gaze mechanic, otherwise nothing too new here.

So many empty rooms breaking up pulls. Why???

Scarmiglione...I was too distracted by his voice. He sounds like Fandaniel. Maybe if it was just a slight raspier it would've worked better for me.

that said, I adore how hectic his fight is, even though I was constantly expecting the "back attack" during the dungeon. Of course, the back attack happens later instead.

Using Troia as a somewhat explorable zone of course makes the empty rooms make more sense. This part is a lot of back and forth and even with mounts it's kind of tedious, but all the voidsent lore is worth it.

The voidsent talks remind me of Megaten demons by the way. Voidsent Summoning Program when?

That feeling of going back through the dungeon and talking to previously hostile NPCs—it reminds me a lot of old school RPGs! It's definitely something that's been a little missing from XIV imo.

Zero. I love her. I love that she operates on a different morality and value system from the usual sort of person the (ex-)Scions deal with, and she isn't going to give that up just because we've been nice to her. Of course, there is some compromising on her part, but she's very solidly set in the ways of the Void.

also: she's a tease for Zeromus. Now, I don't think she will be Zeromus, or that he will necessarily even appear, but if not foreshadowing, her name is the devs teasing those "in the know".

Zero's Domain! It was here I said out loud "wow, that's quality patch" because adding in another location after the dungeon feels big. It's appropriate for the Thirteenth and I hope going forward we'll be able to come back freely and use it as a base of operations.

AND THE MUSIC ITS THE FFIV OVERWORLD THEME I started tearing up a little.

Sad gay Voidsent relationship lore :(

Speaking with the Voidsent around Zero's Domain leads to some fun dialogue btw, my favorite is the Mindflayer kinkshaming a summoner that tied his vessel up.

ok. Barbariccia. I was unfortunately spoiled by crafting recipes (AGAIN) that she would be the trial and not Cagnazzo. I really like the way she's written, and once she appears in person, there's not much of the fanservice you might expect. Instead she has some power poses. Imo that's kinda sexier.

Her design—and Milon's—visually are...I guess pretty much what I should have expected of XIV's style of monster/character design and detail.

Now, as soon as Barb said she was next, I told my partner "I hope Estinien gets some spicy dialogue with her." Ok small tangent time. I personally think Zephirin was the Kain analogue in Heavensward in terms of his backstory and development, but hey I'm not going to deny that Estinien is the one with the "Dragoon who 'betrayed' you" job arc.

AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW ESTINIEN GETS THE SPICY DIALOGUE. And not just any spicy dialogue, he gets to fucking quote Kain Highwind verbatim. Good job, Estinien. "Ride the wind" indeed.

AND THE TRIAL THOUGH. Absolutely bonkers. I only died once because Phys Ranged Movement Privilege but holy shit the mechanics spam. I love the intensity. I was expecting Calofisteri mechanics but nope it's just insanity instead.

Her phase change is a pretty cool way to handle the "wrapped in hair" aspect of her and translating that into something you can still fight.

They did a good job not making her Calofisteri 2.0 or Garuda 3.0 basically.

I think everyone basically assumes Azdaja will be Shadow Dragon, and I'm very interested in how that's going.

So IMO the segments after returning to the Source drag on a fair bit and just keeps going. But this was also bc it was 1 AM for me.

Golbez!! GOLBEZ.

His voice. I like it. It's really hard to top Peter Beckman's iconic performance for Golbez, but his VA here does a good job with this take of the character.

AND WHAT IS YOUR BACKSTORY. GIVE ME THE GOLBEZ LORE. What is his ambition???

It is very refreshing to see Golbez back in his classic villain role though! And he brings a more militant theme too—we're dealing with his minions and their minions, not with him directly like with most of the other antagonists.

Memoria lore will be relevant for Golbez right? INB4 he's Zero's brother hahaha...wait I like this

I have to admit, this is the first patch in a while I've been honest to god this excited and manic about the MSQ. I was so afraid of the FFIV handling going poorly, but they did a great job in keeping it fresh.

Now I'm going to Island Sanctuary.

...Void Sanctuary when?
