One thing I really like about Art of precious scars is how soft Koyou is with Dazai. Like canonically Koyou has shown open fondness for Dazai whenever she is reminiscing about him and Chuuya. And it's only when she feels Dazai is threatening Kyoka and taking her away by feeding her lies does she show any kind of genuine vitriol. She goes back to being vaguely fond of him soon after finding out that Kyoka is actually safer and happier there. I think people really genuinely forget that she is just 26. Skk are almost her baby brothers if anything.

Writing for this ZelZant fic I've been working on-and-off since mid-June. God these two are so fun to bounce off each other-- Not even romantically at this point, just gritting pleasantries through their teeth while simultaneously having moments of curiosity.

To grab some stuff directly from Discord chats:

It's just. They're so soooo. Twilight Princess' whole baseline is power, who gets it, what they do with it, and what that entails, and I find these two in particular to be especially fun in this regard, since they're both trying to project an aura of legitimacy moreso than the other main characters(Link is an Ordon goatherd who has to take up power but is not to use it beyond this liberatory purpose, Midna hides her true nature as Twilight Princess and doubts herself even as her status is crucial, Ganondorf wants to throw everything out because he recognises the whole institution as corrupt even as this version of him gestures to divine mandate as proof of his own competency, ect.).

Zelda is the would-be monarch of Hyrule, a bloody institution that, even if not responsible for the banishment of the Twili themselves, are heavily implied to have enacted genocide on the Gerudo, whom I consider Zant(and Midna!) diaspora of. At the same time, Zant himself is undeniably a cruel, oppressive figure not only robbing Zelda of her birthright, but all of Hyrule of its freedoms. He's a strongman dictator, hyped up on religious fervour and tight-lipped egomania.

This is by no means a super deep or particularly "great" exploration of the topic, but for me, in this little context, this weird topsy-turvy dynamic is fascinating. Historically, Zelda's ancestors were the ones doing the oppressing, but in the here and now Zant is trying to enact it upon her, while also leveraging this paternalistic, politely-misogynistic affect. It's everything he should, in theory, stand-against, but Zant for all his talk is nothing but an opportunist.

(He has no morals, he has no values-- He really is a Tory! My god 😭)

But like, despite all that, I do think the ways in which they are similar lend themselves to a degree of chemistry nevertheless. I think even without the backdrop of war and conquest, it'd remain stilted, and they'd still have issues with each other... But, oh!

They're fascinating. They remind me of those late-19th century early-20th not-quite-aristocratic couples forreal. Fucked up. Love that for them <3

I want very much to write Lockwood cot3 fic, but my trouble is A. I’m an incredibly slow writer and I KNOW most of my ideas would take so long to create, and B. I tend to be most inspired to do AUs, but in this particular case, the cast is small enough that it doesn’t fit with my typical fusion nonsense and C. canon kind of does everything i want already? Like. “Characters are forced to rely on each other in life-threatening situations with very few other support systems and it’s maybe a little fucked up and codependent” is just. canon. already. and they already have meals together and support each other and notice when they’re sad and i simply do not know if i can improve upon canon and/or the other really amazing fic already out there. Canon continuation or slice of life is not my usual thing but it’s what I really want in this case, and that’s weird for me! anyway i have two viable-ish ideas!

One is “Lucy and Lockwood are jealous of George & Flo going on some dates, eventually feelings realizations happens” (and yeah it would be ot3 AND Flo/George because why not and because george deserves all the love!) I like this idea but I can already tell the way I would want to write it would take SO long. Two is basically just. different scenes of them caring for each other? 3+1 with the first three focusing on the three different subpairings (george+lucy, lucy+lockwood, lockwood+george) and then an additional scene of All Of Them. This one seems more doable! I will probably at least try to write this. But also I need to figure out if the books include more info about how George moved in, because i want the Lockwood and George scene to be about George cooking in the house for the first time and I’d love more to bounce off of with that. Honestly could be a whole ass fic in and of itself tbh; how on earth did these two leaves Fittes? I want to know! If you know you should tell me and/or tell me to read the books.  Other preliminary ideas: Lucy+Lockwood either going to an abandoned playset during the day while normal kids are in school, and it’s a little bittersweet, or grocery shopping together and then Lockwood buys Lucy a plushie that reminds her of Norrie? I think the playset idea is stronger but I’m not sure if it’s quite enough of a Gesture -- I’m mapping out different “ways of showing love” for each character and Lockwood’s is absolutely “elaborate gesture and/or buying things”. perhaps Combine the Two, then it’s a more spontaneous gesture and thus makes sense that it’s not quite so grand. Lucy+George is Lucy deliberately making time and space to just Be Around George, I think. The idea i have so far is Lucy wakes up really early, and George has been up all night trying to work something out, and she sits with him and makes him tea and tells him to go to bed, but also doesn't MAKE him, listens while he talks through what he's working on and that helps and then he does go to bed and she covers for him with Lockwood. for All Three of Them my main idea is “game night” but it’s less fleshed out than the other three ideas. I guess the question is how do they show love for each other all together and i mean -- you could do caring for injuries or covering for each other on the job, but that might be a weird note to end on? I don’t have specific ideas for game night, but it is fairly versatile. mm, i dunno, who knows!

ok y'all I'm writing this silly little iwtv one-shot where Mona Mayfair uses and mixture of magic and Fareed's science to temporarily turn Lestat into a human woman. just because I once saw a post that was like, what if lestat got turned into a woman in totbt, imagine lestat having a period. this fic involves no body snatching, lestat's actual body just changes as if he'd been born a cis female. bc magic. Mona's doing it to teach him some lesson, or just to fuck with him or whatever. her reason isn't the point. (though i do love how she read him for filth that one time, i don't remember which book. one of the bad ones, i think.) the point is, this is set somewhere vaguely in the future, a few years after the interview, and our 4 main guys are in a polycule and they have to deal with lestat being a whiny brat

In the Stars Shatter 'verse, the Void Court has like a couple billion planets in their empire (so does Eltar, actually, that's why they're called the Eltarian Alliance), and it is almost universally agreed that if you want fancy cheese, you go to Tallia (home of Thrax, Rita, and Zedd), because Tallians are vegetarians who have absolutely perfected cheese recipes.

Tallians, for their part, think Earth cheeses are really interesting, kind of cute, and that's totally normal for a culture that's only been around for a few thousand years. They're sure Americans will get over the fad of American cheese soon, too. New cultures are so adorable, aren't they?

Rocky tried to punch Thrax for saying that about queso dip.

What do you think a fic named "Worlds Enough To Share (Just You And I)" would be about?

Oh hrm. So I'm on a Witcher Kick because @inexplicifics just writes some of the best worldbuilding and "But what if GOOD things happen to people who are canonically traumatized" and there's a lot of work out in the broader Witcher-verse looking at the fact that, well, Witchers live to be several hundred and Humans Don't and Angst Can Happen There... and I've always enjoyed the idea of Jaskier not actually being human and Geralt not realizing it, and likewise being bad at reading the passage of time because when you are either going to live to be 300 or die tomorrow, you don't keep as much track of how much time has passed. SO. I think I'd tackle this as a series of snippets, of Jaskier and Geralt through the years on the road, along with cameos and POV switches with the other Witchers remaining. Probably starting with Jaskier after an explosive fight (Because they do fight) and Jaskier thinking about the last few arguments and how he's always the one to go find Geralt and they never quite apologize or more Jaskier will apologize but Geralt is terrible at saying the WORDS he just uses actions, and Jaskier wishes he didn’t find it so frustrating sometimes - and of course, as he’s wandering on his own he finds trouble, but it isn’t HIM in trouble, but Geralt, and of course in the process of rescuing Geralt he gets hurt and our lovely wolf proceeds to have no idea how to handle his feelings. They talk, over the campfire, as Jaskier recuperates, as Geralt tryes to tell Jaskier he shouldn’t have gotten involved - shouldn’t have saved him, and of course they bicker about THAT until Jaskier shuts Geralt up with a declaration that just because he doesn’t value his life that doesn’t make it worthless, and the world is better with him in it.  And Geralt does the “Don’t want you dying on my account” and Jaskier points out that Geralt dying would hurt him PLENTY and they... start to find that middle ground of Geralt allowing himself to show he cares and admit to himself he cares which is the harder part, because he’s terrified and terrible at admitting when he’s afraid. And of course, they go on adventures further, save some cool creatures who aren’t nasty, kill some creatures who are, spend a winter or three in the mountains meeting Geralts brothers and everyone has Opinions on the bard - and the foot drops at chapter 3 or 4 where Geralt is going through a town and seeing one of the kids they saved from that creature in ch2 - that kid grown up and showing his kids to Geralt and Jaskier and Geralt goes off and has a bit of a panic because Jaskier is getting older and of course once Jaskier drags the cause of panic out of Geralt, he’s like. Well. Damn. Because he had an EXCELLENT bet going between Vesimer, Aiden, and Eskel about how long it would take Geralt to notice, but he can’t let Geralt be wrecked by the thought that Jaskier is getting older- Geralt is already trying to plan how to help Jaskier retire for goodness sakes! And Jaskier has to tell him, you delightful idiot, that he’s not entirely human and uh, he’s not struggled to keep up with anything for the last forty years on the road, darling, that isn’t something the average human could keep up, you delightful dolt, I’m not going anywhere.... And maybe there is a coda where it’s like, three hundred years in the future and Geralt and Jaskier have themselves a bookshop, because they are retired - because three hundred years is a damned long time and society changes - and Geralt has gone to worrying about when he’ll leave Jaskier and Jas is like, oh, I’m not worried. You’ll go when you’re ready - not a moment sooner. The world can wait for us. ---- At least that’s my immediate thought!

I can’t believe that Farsight just plain up and took the spotlight away from Stonemover (my favorite character) and now she’s a main character in my fanfiction and honestly my own relationship with her has been a little up and down. You know, before for my fanfiction, I was planning on letting her be a very minor character, before she moved up to secondary character who played a small role, and then BOOM I started rewriting and I discovered that I loved writing Farsight’s POV and some pieces of the story that I made for her just needed her, if you know what I mean? It feels like Farsight has slipped into my mind and quietly stayed for a while, and to be honest, she’s more of an open character than Stonemover is, because she has her own life with her kid(s), a best friend, and a scientist partner, so she has plenty of opportunities to interact with others.

Stonemover, on the other hand, became more of a character who’s easier to see through the eyes of others, because I feel like it’s a thing in my fanfiction that he’s always looked from the outside, and everybody forms their own interpretation of him in their head, even though they never get to know him personally. It’s not until he meets someone who really does try to know more about him beyond his powers (Thorn), that he starts to open up more, and it’s harder for him to really interact with others before that. I still really like him as a character though, because he’s the reason why I’ve even tried writing and getting into NightWings.

But, I think that in my fanfiction (which is currently a multi-POV story), there’s certain characters who have to shine for certain parts, and Farsight just happens to wind up more in the beginning, and Stonemover will have to end up somewhere near the middle as he gets to make his own choices, and I get to sprinkle in some other NightWings if I feel like it. But the end is ultimately Stonemover’s, because he has the opportunity to leave the NightWing island, and he finally gets to decide what to do with his own magic instead of trying to appease others, while Farsight remains involved with Morrowseer’s conspiracy (especially with Mastermind). But, Farsight and Stonemover seem to have a little bit of a spotlight, and even though they’re not necessarily friends or even close anymore, their shared backstory still managed to intertwine their stories and change how both of them managed to make their own way into the world.
