list of things fic readers may not realize about ao3 notifications and stats for writers:
- we only get notifications for comments and kudos
- private bookmarks don't register on a story's stat page, only on the author's statistics board
- we don't get notified of subscriptions, and we only know the subscription stats if we go to the author statistics board
- (this one varies from writer to writer) it feels weird to see a spike in hits that's accompanied by no other changes in stats because we can't tell if you liked the fic

Fic readers, never feel awkward about commenting! Comment, interact, I beg you!
Whether the fic has multiple comments or none, comment.
Whether the fandom is brand new or decades old, comment. People rewatch old favorites all the time and are constantly discovering new things as they are released or long after the source material ended.
Old fics deserve love as much as shiny new ones, and the more interaction there is for old fics can bring newcomers the confidence to post new fics for that thing you like. And getting some love on old fics can reignite the love for those characters/ships and help that author to revisit an old fave and post more for them. So comment!
The possibilities that commenting can bring are truly so limitless. Even if you can’t think up something more than, “I loved this!” we promise that is enough. It’s appreciated more than you know.

So, as an experiment, I wrote seven fics last week and challenged myself to write in present tense for two of them, when I usually write in past tense. It was different, but I didn't hate it.
The weird thing is, of those 7 fics, those did WAY better than the others. Now the question is, is it because they were just better fic concepts, or do people like present tense fics better than past tense? So now I need to know.

I'm not gonna lie, initially I felt kinda bad when I would block blogs because I always have this "what if they're not a minor? now they're not gonna get to enjoy my content" but I realized that that's really not my problem because it takes 2 fucking seconds to put your age in your bio and if you're not willing to do that then too bad
like I've had some of my followers comply with that I appreciate them so much because like? I don't wanna block anyone and they obviously didn't want to be blocked and cared enough to make me, an nsfw writer, feel comfortable by acknowledging my request and basically saying "hi yes I'm an adult so you don't have to cringe and block me when I interact with your content"
it's really not that hard to make writers feel comfortable with your presence on their blog. some of yall are just super self-centered. we are giving you guys free content and it's really not asking for a lot if you just display your age. you don't even have to put your exact age. just "20s", "30s" is enough to ease our minds and also save us the time of having to block you.
I kinda went all around the world to say it but if you can't take 2 seconds to display your age, what other reason could it be other than the fact that you're just fkn selfish?
