this is part of a longer ask and we didn’t want this response to get lost in the sauce, so here’s a separate post about it! brought to you once again by thea who is the only #gamer #girl 😵‍💫
mike: mike is Such a nintendo fanboy to me and a big fan of the legend of zelda series! his favorite entries are breath of the wild, tears of the kingdom, and twilight princess. he also is a big fan of the story of skyward sword! i don’t know if we will ever mention it in acswy, but he is in the middle of his totk playthrough as the fic is progressing, so he does spend a lot of his free time with his switch! i think he also plays mario games and a firm metroid enjoyer!
will: animal crossing mostly! he likes to watch other people play video games more than he likes playing them himself, especially horror games. i think he has also dabbled in pikmin, kirby, and yoshi games, but gets stressed out easily as the player, so he doesn’t play them a lot!
max: biiiig big fan of the last of us entries and red dead 2 but also like. all the bratz games. duality of woman
el: Any Farming Sim. loves stardew and story of seasons the most! and sims 4. i also think she likes puzzle games like unpacking and a little to the left! and 2 me she is a surprisingly formidable smash opponent.
lucas: final fantasy and kingdom hearts for sure! and the spiderman entries for ps4/5. i also think he played tekken and timesplitter as a kid. if he’s playing nintendo it’s mario or yoshi! mike begs pleads cries and throws up for lucas to play zelda but atp he won’t budge just to annoy mike 💙 he will watch mike play tho and look up a walkthrough for him if he needs it!
dustin: i think dustin loves classic platformers like crash bandicoot and spyro and is a big fan of the fire emblem series bc it’s very strategy oriented. he’s definitely more into pc games than the rest of the party as well! i’m not a huge pc gamer myself so i’m not gonna throw out any specific titles other than obviously minecraft LOL he also strikes me as a banjo and kazooie and jak and daxter fan. also chibi robo bot!

AO3 tag game :3
thanks so much for the tag @mvshortcut !!!!! much appreciated, this was a blast to fill out :D
How many works do you have on AO3?
86! Damn, that's more than I remember 🙀 I have been writing pretty fervently since I was pretty young, though, and I transferred all my old fics from fanfiction dot net to AO3, so it's a long stretch of time. All my old wattpad fics are still rotting somewhere though lmaooo I can't even access them anymore bc I forgot my password and I can't reset it bc I used a school email 😔
What's your total AO3 word count?
443,734! When I get to half a million I'm gonna have to throw myself a party. With boba and everything
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
Oof, okay, here we go. A lot of the fandoms I have tagged on AO3 don't really "count" because they're just aggregate tags for the same fandom, so even though AO3 says the number is 48, I'm gonna count the TRUE number as 17. (It got cut down so much because of how many video game series have different games with different fandom tags on AO3, lmao)
Here's the breakdown of the list:
Persona (Mostly Persona 3)
Fire Emblem (Mostly Shadow Dragon and Blazing Sword)
Legend of Zelda
Pokemon
Professor Layton
RWBY
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Earthbound/MOTHER
Red vs. Blue
Voltron Legendary Defender
Naruto
Final Fantasy XV
Harvest Moon
The Mysterious Benedict Society
The Avengers
Animal Crossing
Care Bears (despite having never actually consumed any Care Bears media to my knowledge)
The worst part is that this stupid list would be much, much, MUCH longer if I finished even a quarter of my WIPs 😭 Hell, even just my "Video Games" subfolder in my "Fanfiction" subfolder has more than 17 subfolders in it...
Tumblr media
Y'all don't understand how many random fics my ADHD spares you from ever seeing I have no focus
Top five fics by kudos:
Ash and Emotion (Zelda) - Not surprising, I knew this was my most popular fic. It was for a ZeLink zine full of beautiful work :)
Resemblance (Naruto) - bro I always forget people really liked this one. Literally an unedited drabble I did in an hour for a "pride month drabble challenge" which I immediately abandoned. Trans rights I guess
Always Wanna Play (But You Never Wanna Lose) (Persona 3) - This one isn't surprising either, and I'm very proud of this fic so I'm quite chuffed to see it get so much attention... thanks everyone :')
The Beat of Your Heart (Zelda) - Now this one surprised me a lot. This was just a little piece for ZeLink week... Another unedited one, I literally was writing it on the toilet in church so I could get it out in time 😭
Comfort (Zelda) - Another ZeLink week piece, but I knew this one was popular. Also unedited, lmao. I was writing it on the day of my AP Calc finals and I rushed through the exam so I could have more time to work on the fic 😭 I made some Choices that year
Do you respond to comments?
I try to! But I get very anxious about it and tend to work myself into a tizzy, so I often put it off for later and then forget, haha. Then I'll go and respond to all my comments from the last few months and feel even weirder about it... T_T
What's the fic with the angstiest ending you've ever written?
Oof. That's... a hard one, haha. I've written a couple of fics without happy endings, though I typically don't. At least three fics which end on a canonical character death, for instance. But I'd say the ending which made me the most emo writing was Butter, a Mother 3 fic. It ends with Lucas, who's like 9, recently lost his mother, then lost his twin brother (and thinks it's his fault), and is now being neglected by his father, crawling into bed and crying. So yeah, pretty bleak, lmao... but at least he doesn't die I guess?
Do you write crossovers?
I do, but I haven't posted many yet. I'm not always huge on writing them, but I do think about them a lot. I was working on this one Persona 3 x Fire Emblem Awakening crossover but I lost steam on it, and now there's a really lovely crossover on AO3 with a similar premise that I was SO delighted to come across!!! Hope y'all don't mind me taking a break from linking my own work to shill for this one, hehe
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Unfortunately, yes, about six times, I'd say. Even more unfortunately, most of those times happened earlier on in my fanfic writing career, and I was pretty sensitive to hate back then, so I deleted many of the relevant fics, and some of them I don't even have access to myself anymore.
Not gonna talk about the ones that are still upsetting, but I will talk about the funny examples: on a (since deleted) RWBY fic, I said in the author's note that I "wrote them as platonic, but the fic can be read as WhiteRose", and then I got a glowing comment gushing about how good the story was which ended with "but then you had to ruin it by shitting all over WhiteRose, how about you [long suicide bait]". Third most baffling comment I've ever received.
The two most baffling were on different fics, but both were making the same weird accusation??? One was on a ZeLink fic (actually, on Comfort, my fifth most kudos'ed fic of all time now), and y'know I think I'm just gonna show you the comment in question:
Tumblr media
The other one was on a long-since deleted fic which focused on both a romantic ship, as well as a fatherly relationship between one member of the ship and the other member's father. I guess having a fatherly relationship with your father-in-law makes your boyfriend actually your brother (and therefore you can't date him anymore). IDK man people are crazy. (tbf the commenter in question thought I was setting it up so that he'd get adopted by his boyfriend's parents, which would give them more of a case, but like... that didn't happen in the fic and wasn't going to. they just guessed at a future plot development and got angry about their guess)
Do you write smut?
I do, but I've never posted any. I've posted one fic that was very suggestive, I'd even call it "NSFW" in a sense, but never anything explicit. Maybe I will in the future? We'll see if I can ever finish anything smutty, lmao.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep, I had Ultimatum, my longest chapter-fic (and by far my most popular fic in the ff.n days) stolen and posted on another site by somebody. I reported it but never checked back up to see if it got taken down.
I also feel that I've had my work plagiarized pretty damn blatantly in another fandom (I was browsing a certain AU tag and read one which contained all the exact events and sometimes word-for-word dialogue from a fic of mine, just very very slightly rewritten) but the poster had no other works and their writing was definitely extremely juvenile, so... I figured they were a dumb kid and just decided not to raise a fuss. Checked back later and they deleted it, hopefully because they realized they shouldn't do that, so I figure there's no need to start shit over it. Honestly, if that person used that experience as a jumping-off point to write their own fics, then I'm glad it happened, imitation being the highest form of flattery and all.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, though I had someone reach out to me on fanfiction dot net a long time ago and ask permission to translate An Unheard Goodbye, which was super exciting! I agreed, but I don't believe they ever got around to it, or if they did, they never posted it. Still very flattering, and I think about that a lot, hehe.
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
HOW COULD I POSSIBLY ANSWER THIS. UM. UM UH. UHHH UM UH I. UM.
I'm.... gonna say Zelda/Link? I haven't written it in FOREVER but it was such a huge part of me coming into my own as a fanfic author, so I have to give it credit for that.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
.......all of them 😭 god I have so many of these damn things. But for the prime example, I'd point to Ultimatum, an old Pokemon fic that I started in middle school. I got all the way to the climax and I feel bad leaving my readers hanging, but... at this point, if I did continue it, I would honestly have to rewrite the whole fic first just to be in line with my current understanding of the characters.
What are your writing strengths?
Y'know, I think I get character voices down extremely well in a way which elevates my dialogue and narration. That's probably the thing I'm most proud of in my own writing, at least.
What are your writing weaknesses?
BREVITY. Or the utter, glaring lack of it. I have also been known to muddy up my writing with an overabundance of A) adverbs, B) unneeded clauses tacked onto perfectly good sentences, and C) em-dashes 😭
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I think it's dope as fuck, but I currently can't really accomplish it because I'm monolingual (NOT FOR LONG IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT, I'M COMING FOR YOU, JAPANESE FLUENCY!!!!). I will also say that I don't like when authors will write characters having a story-important conversation in another language, then put the translations in the end notes or something, requiring you to either read the chapter confused or else keep scrolling back down and back up.... I think even that's totally fine to do if what's being said isn't plot-relevant, though.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Naruto. I hadn't read or watched Naruto btw, I had only read other Naruto fanfics. I have spoken on this topic many times, but it remains hilarious to me. Also, so many of my old Naruto fics are lost to the Wattpad times, but I will take this opportunity to once again share a quote which I recently managed to unearth from my long-lost unsung magnum opus:
Tumblr media
Never ever will I intentionally attain the level of comedy gold that I managed while writing completely dead serious Naruto fanfiction on Wattpad in 2012.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
See above. How could I ever top that fic.
In all seriousness, this question always makes me sweat, but I think I'm gonna say Oil, a slightly older fic from my EliHec days which I absolutely obsessed over for months before finally managing to finish. And, unlike most of the fics that I obsess over, I think the obsession actually made it come out better rather than worse, haha.
thanks again for the tag!!!! as for me, I'll tag uhh, hm, @wizard-finix @dreamedge @misty-wisp @flyfish1999 and any other AO3 writers who see this!!! (idk how many of you use AO3 and most of the MBS authors I know have probably already been tagged hehe but anybody who wants to should absolutely feel free!!!!!!!)

SS role swap?
Hello! So I know I dropped a snippet of a fic I'm working on, and I'm still working on it, it's just slow going. In the meantime, I have another idea to throw into existence. If it's already a thing that exists, please let me know!
So basically, it's another role-swap idea. I was absolutely inspired by Surface Too Soon by the lovely @attllhak but I have Ideas so it's a bit different than that, but I'll elaborate below!
So they go through the storyline, Zelda and Link 'impersonating' each other, except that its not working. Zelda isn't gaining the memories of the Goddess, no matter how much she purifies herself in the springs. Impa is getting frustrated, and so is Zelda, but still nothing happens. Link, on the other hand, is draw to the water, so much that he can't leave the springs without interacting with it in some way. He starts having weird dreams again, like the one he had before their adventure started. He gains whatever memories that Hylia intended to give to Zelda, but thinks that they are only dreams. Spoiler: their not.
Link and Zelda meet up again at the Sealed Grounds, and Zelda gives her speech, and attempts to form the crystal that will hold her in the past. As Link runs to her, the crystal doesn't form as expected, so he manages to push her out of the way, and the crystal forms around him instead.
So, everyone is in shock, not understanding what just happened. The Goddess Sword is somehow not in the crystal, and Fi emerges to talk to Zelda and Impa, explaining the dreams Link had been having. Everything clicks into place, and Impa realizes that she's been protecting the wrong person. By this point, Fi is already 'attached' to Link, but is willing to work with Zelda to get him back.
As they adventure together, Fi tells Zelda who tells Impa (who is there on occasion, as she mostly stays in the temple to watch over Link) how obsessive and awful Ghirahim has been, and Zelda realizes how much harder she and Impa had made it on Link to be able to catch up with them, and how much danger he had been in. If Ghirahim had realized that Link was the Goddess reborn, they would have been doomed.
So the end of the game comes around, and everything is the same except, ya know, the roles are reversed, so when Ghirahim takes Zelda to try and start the ritual to resurrect Demise, nothing happens. Only, we all saw Zelda after the crystal let her go, and she was not really in any soft of shape to go fight a literal demon lord or the God of Hatred, so when Ghirahim realized he has the wrong person, it's all too easy to grab Link instead.
Fi and Zelda step up to fight Ghirahim, and then Demise and Link is sacrificed-for lack of a better word- to resurrect Demise. Zelda and Fi eventually defeat them both, but it takes far longer than it did in game, because she has much less experience than Link does. The curse is still in play, nothing fundamental has changed in terms of the plot other than the fact that Link is the Goddess reborn and Zelda holds half of the Hero's Spirit, and Link holds the other.
(That's another thing, I feel like both Link and Zelda would hold part of the hero's Spirit for this, for it to have gone on for so long, which is why Fi didn't realize that anything was wrong. She was still technically, with the Goddesses Chosen Hero, after all.)
That leads me to the Linked Universe part of the idea. Obviously, Link is still, in part, the Goddesses Chosen Hero, and ends up with the chain, still taking the name Sky. He doesn't realize that the others don't share the Spirit of the Hero with their Zelda, (or that none of them are the Goddess reborn or Goddess descendant, like their Zeldas) and therefore doesn't say anything about it. He has some suspicions when a few of the boys get very vocal about their dislike for the Goddess, (time and legend), but by the time he realizes. he's too scared about how they'll react to him telling the truth. Their dislike is intense, and honestly scares him. Wild has his suspicions, because of how he can talk to and interact with the Goddess statues, the power they give off, but isn't sure. he doesn't say anything.
They end up in Wild's era, and meet up with Flora, who completely freaks out because she can feel the Goddesses power in Sky. Cue the major freakout from all ends. Wild freaks out because his suspicions were correct. The rest of the chain freaking out because they have been traveling with the Goddess Reborn and some of them think that it's so cool! Others don't like it that much. Flora freaks out because she has someone she can talk to, someone who knows the struggles of the power, someone who understands. And Sky does understand! Even though their adventure was over, he still struggles with the power he now holds, and everything that happened.
Cue again the fallout of realizing that they've been traveling with the Goddess Reborn, one of their brothers having to stand there and listen to the hate that had been spewed about him, too scared to speak up and defend himself. It all turns out alright in my head, but not without a good amount of angst, fear, and stress, and maybe a dangerous enemy or two.
Thank you for reading, if you've gotten this far! It's absolutely a bit of an info dump, but this has been bouncing around in my head for days and I needed to put it somewhere. If anyone wants to take a crack at this, feel free! I just ask that you tag me or let me know, so I can read your masterpiece!

You! Name your favorite Link and say why he’s your favorite. (I say like I don’t already know XD, I’m just going around and asking all my mutual)
Aw fuuuuuuu… I mean, depends on the fic I’m writing? Let’s run with Sky, since it’s him for sure at the moment.
This’ll be a bit long.
I love how Sky had time to question who he was and actually find some answers. No one told him he had to be anything before Fi and Impa gave him a destiny. He just wanted to be his best self. Loves life. Deals with school issues. He’s got hobbies and interests like woodcarving and some mystery sport (soccer? Fencing? Bomb throwing? Loftwing quidditch? Who knows?!)
I love that he starts with a big surrogate family at the academy. They praise him because he’s genuinely a nice kid, trustworthy, hard working, strong and helpful. But they don’t dawn or anything. He’s chill. When he helps others, he also inspires those around him to be their best, like Fletch.
(TBH they kinda rely too much on him… or use him… *cough*Hylia*cough*)
He helps people all over the islands, even Pippit’s “lazy” mom and a creepy toilet ghost (moaning Myrtle, is that you?) All the Links help others, but he knows these people intimately, and the familiarity did not breed contempt.
He’s probably the most “modern” out of the Links. He has a comfortable life. And he left all that comfort behind to go explore the Surface, but not for curiosity. For his bestie! (He has the option of declaring his love for Peatrice too, so he’s got agency to keep it purely platonic, if perhaps secret for a while)
I love how loyal he is to Zelda as his best friend rather than as romantic partner or ruler, going up against the most insane and ridiculous odds. Like, I love my friends and family, but I’m not sure I’d deal well with having to face fire keese, bokos, F-ing Ghirahim (Noooope! I’m out!), let alone having to cut the goopy toes off a giant world-eating slithering black jelly bean just to save them. But he’s like “Yes, obviously I’ll do it! We all help each other.” (Communism poster boy. I will not elaborate)
He’s like the biblical Adam plus Samwise Gamgee. Like, “Oh you fell/need to go on alone? I’m coming with you!” And jumps. And then he finds out he actually can come back up, iirc. Instead of some flawed, fallen Eve character, he finds out his bestie is GOD. And she is just as self-sacrificing as him. (I love their story so much)
Back to Link. He’s got raw talent. (I know a guy in real life like him. He picks up skills quickly, so he’s bored in classes and falls asleep a lot. And he has a simmering rage deep down, that comes out to defend what’s his. As much as the game tries to frame this as a weakness, when they also give him prophetic dreams and a desire for not drawing attention to himself (bullies!) and a sweet but slightly jealous bestie, he’s got plenty of reasons to be sleepy. Nightmares, narcolepsy, staying up late to practice in private, limited downtime for hobbies… let the boy sleep in!
I love how expressive he is! Of all the Links, he’s the most emotive over things that are not food or treasure/items. I like to think he’s more emotionally mature and empathetic, and Jojo’s comic supports this. His first in-story action is to rush to help Time, who was speared, instead of attacking the monster. Later, he’s supportive of Wind’s enthusiasm when others tease him about the childishness of masks, and is the sweetest about teasing Legend for being a bunny. The man’s heart is gold, sturdy but soft too.
And his music! The boy rocks the harp. Musical prodigy too? Who has insanely good footwork and can balance on a tightrope and probably dances better than anybody in Skyloft if he wanted to?!? (No wonder Zelda is jealous.)
Oh, and Pippit calls his bird a red terror, so he’s probably gotten into some shenanigans with it growing up. The divine bird is a delightfully bad influence, and I love it.
I’m sure I could go on, but that’ll do for now. He’s a shield first and a sword second.

Ch. 1/? (technically the fic says 10....but Idk I don't trust me far as I can throw her)
Summary:
Link was just a normal kid. He loved his family. He climbed on things he shouldn't. He hurt himself doing dumb things. And he followed his instincts even when he didn’t know how to explain them.
He was just a normal kid...until he wasn't.
*
And this is yet another longfic I added to my plate over the last few months. It's basically the story of botw Link from the moment he found the Master Sword and how his life changed from there. It's mostly a character study? It was originally supposed to be 5 chapters and then I realized I had way too much to say about it. So now who knows how it'll wind up.
I have up through chapter 5 posted right now and I'm slowly but surely writing more whenever I feel up to it

*reading the Four Swords Manga to refresh myself after taking yet another break from the Minish Cap figurine hunt, does a double take and almost drops coffee mug*
So was anyone going to tell me Four is the only Link with at least one alive parent still around who actually did something , or was I just meant to find this out by myself when going on a Zelda binge in preparation for TOTK?
Like, this man is a knight that gets captured and brainwashed by Vaati, duels his son thinking he is Shadow, but manages to snap out of it by throwing a dagger at Vaati while disguised as Zelda. He tries to curb Four's reckless tendencies and to remind him not to rush headlong into situations without his allies and to keep a cool head, it's not much but let that sink in like holy mother of Farore-
He couldn't have know that Link was really himself, he couldn't have know that Vaati wasn't actually the princess, yet he actually takes the gamble because even if he is exasperated by his son and isn't around much he actually cares. Honestly it arguably may not be much and their relationship will likely have some strain due to the brainwashing deal but it's something.
Just, let that sink in. Four is shockingly lucky in that department so good on him, him, Twilight, Time and Legend were arguably the luckiest in the parental figure/role model department (if we count Sir Raven for the time he was around after Link's uncle is gone, which I am doing so by the way, Legend really looked up to him and he's his ancestor and actually very hands on with helping him in the Oracle of Ages manga, a rarity in Zelda in general really and his uncle was also really nice. The only one who was quite as lucky to have a parent/role model actually help a lot in the plot was Twilight, because Time's Deku Tree dies pretty early in during Ocarina of Time after raising him with the Kokiri before the quest and thus can't offer him support and is, ya know a tree, kind of limited in action there). Maybe Wind too if we count Linebeck (this man stabs Bellum for the kid even though he's terrified and is disgusted with himself after the brainwashing for attacking him, honestly props and respect to the sea rat), I think we can also count Spirit if he's around due to Alfonzo? Though I haven't played Spirit Tracks in a bit so I could be wrong. Anyway, he's pretty darn decent and involved in the plot rather than just shoving it onto the Link's shoulders for one reason or another (unlike SOME PEOPLE. *Side eyes Gaepora in Skyward Sword for doing the bare minimum even though his daughter is missing and he's implied to have raised Link/Sky with her, side eyes King of Red Lions, side eyes BOTW's King Rhoam because he really wasn't helpful at all to either Zelda or Link and only did the bare minimum for the later, side eyes OOT's king for not believing is own daughter until Link/Time was already traumatized by the events of the game and coming in to spill the tea, side eyes- actually no, Dot's/Minish Cap and Four Swords' Zelda's father is actually half decent.), They could form a little support group or something.
... Now I want a fic where the Chain actually meets the guy and just, gets a lot of whiplash that "Wait a second one of us is NOT an adopted orphan in some fashion?", That or he just immediately integrates himself as a secondary father figure for some of the Chain members, give Time a bit of a break for a change in wrangling these chaotic green clad menaces (affectionate), someone to bond with Rusl and we can know someone other than Twilight has a decent father figure still around. That or the bigger and arguably more comedic whiplash of meeting Sir Raven, who looks like a young Time with hints of Sky what with the cloak.

Do you think you could write a snippet, for any of your fics?
Have multiple snippets! Guess which each is from!
.....
This felt like his past, like the painful ache of everyone he’d known before the Calamity haunting him. He didn’t know their circumstances, he didn’t know what had happened to them, he’d barely been able to start piecing it together. He’d barely even resolved to try to piece it together, stories and people from another life a century ago gnawing steadily at his sanity.
But Sky wasn’t a phantom from a past he couldn’t remember. Sky was a part of his life now, and he was terrified he’d become another lost Champion, another piece of his life that just vanished into thin air with no explanation, no closure, nothing.
Wild hugged himself a little, feeling ice cold and alone. Goddess, he hoped Sky was okay. He wanted to get up and look for him now. The sunlight was beginning to make the horizon glow, and he shot to his feet to wake the others. He doubted they’d mind the early start.
A bush rustled and snapped, and Wild grabbed his bow and arrows in a heartbeat, yelling, “Everybody up!”
Snores and yelps sounded around the camp, and a figure shot out of the bushes with its hands held high in the air, eyes wide and terrified.
“Easy!” the figure said shakily, and Wild recognized the skinny, muscular physique and voice after a few seconds of confusion. The postman took a steadying breath as Wild lowered his arrow while others scrambled for weapons and then froze in bewilderment. “I have a letter for a Mr. Rusl, I’m just passing through to get to Ordon.”
Legend dropped his sword to throw his hands in the air. “Do you ever sleep?!”
........
“Is that why you sell my stuff?”
“One does have to make a living—”
“You have a job, Ravio.”
“B-but what if it isn’t enough, you know I need comforts and the world can be so unpredictable and scary—”
Legend’s phone buzzed again. Sighing even more heavily than last time, Legend snatched the blasted object to put it on do not disturb when his eyes caught some of the words in the texts.
—help and I don’t know what—
Furrowing his brow, the travel nurse unlocked his phone to read the messages fully.
hey need a a favor wellaact ually actually maybe more of yeah I need a favor look I might be a liytle tipsyandd cant drive ok hang on swearica n type ha stnadby Ok. Typing slow. Need a drive. Ride Whatever I can’t drive myself an I need help and I don’t know what else to do Don’t want Wind to see me like this pls
Legend stared at the mess of texts. He… what? Why was Warriors drunk texting him of all people? He typed, Can’t you call Time? Or Sky?
Time would fuss Sky would worry Pls Ledge?
Legend frowned. You think I won’t fuss?
You alwayssfuss
His ire flared. I do not!!
LEDGE RIDE PLS
This night couldn’t get any worse. UGH FINE YOU MORON JUST TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE
......
His mouth became a thin line. “And I… I screwed it all up. I cursed everything, everyone. I cursed them.”
“Link,” Zelda said, caught off guard. She was struggling to understand how Demise had survived as well, but she wasn’t blaming either of them for it as he seemed to be. His worries were clearly eating him alive.
“Don’t,” Link immediately hissed, growing stormy. “Don’t even try it. You did everything right, you did your part, you trusted me to finish things and I didn’t.”
“What are you talking about?” Zelda asked, putting a hand to his cheek. “Link, you defeated him. We had no way of knowing—”
“I did,” Link spat, pulling out of her reach and turning away, his hands shaking as he clenched his fists. His shoulders hunched and his entire body was so tense it was ready to snap. “He said it himself. I thought—I was such a fool, Zelda, I—I thought—he started speaking about how his hatred would follow my spirit and your bloodline, and it sounded like the dying words of a monster, I—I didn’t realize it was a curse, that he was—I didn’t—I d-didn’t—”
Link’s body stiffened even further as shuddering gasps and hiccups interrupted his words, and he bowed his head, hugging himself. Zelda immediately rushed around him to face him fully once more, dragging him into the tightest hug she could muster, willing all of her love into it.
“You had no way of knowing,” she repeated as she processed what he’d said. “And who’s to say it was a curse right in that moment? Who’s to say it wouldn’t have happened whether he spoke it or not? Who’s to say there was any stopping it? Link, I was a goddess. I was a goddess and I couldn’t stop him. You did everything you were meant to do – you solved the puzzles, you tempered the Goddess Sword and made it into the Blade of Evil’s Bane, you traveled through time, you got the Triforce and used it to kill him. You beat him. It was Ghirahim who screwed everything up.”

I had a little idea, imagine if the hero of courage reader met the chains reincarnations (animal) or ghost as a kid and grew up through their advice as well as gained bits and pieces of the chain’s era. Like casually dropping an embarrassing thing that one of the links did and realizing how a machine/ object worked before the others do. (Ghost legend teaching hero!reader how to be on their toes and teaching some easy magic spells or maybe an older wolfie (could be centuries old, who knows) playing and protecting them from danger until hero!reader is old enough to protect themselves.
It depends on how old hero!reader is but I’m going with the idea of at least a 10yr old based on what I’ve put
Ghost time could be a menace with the cuccos and teach hero!reader how to fly with them for a bit, probably teaching them about the
Wars would help them practice with a wooden sword and guide the proper way to hold it but will also read to them if asked (I live for older brother wars headcannon sue me/j)
Sky would most likely take naps and tell the small hero about skyloft as well as the loftwings, explain the sword on his back and fondly talk about fi, maybe throw in a few stories about himself and his friends to calm them down a bit
I feel like Wind would play pirates with hero! reader and get them in all kinds of trouble that’s it, either that or actively get them to sail in a small pond nearby or get them to build a tiny boat (that’s absolutely not made of paper and lots of tape) to see if it’ll float
Wild and Hyrule would probably help them explore more and have fun that way while also keeping them safe (and even make friends with a few fairies); Hyrule being the most protective because “holy shi- how do I not let them die” or him delving into his insecurities and thinking the kid is bored and wants to leave only to be proven wrong when they ask what the fairies are saying/doing with a giant grin on their face
Legend would try to be protective and/or leave them alone, at least until hero!reader reaches out to him and drags him off on an adventure around the house/ village (it only lasts until hero!reader gets hungry and has to go home)
Four would most likely teach hero!reader about the Minish / Picori as well as explain what happened to them, probably showing them how to find kinstones (igf they’re around in hero!reader’s hyrule)
First would probably be awkward around hero!reader for a bit or at least watch over them while they play with their toys until hero!reader looks at him and offers to play/ draw with them
If hero!reader sees the master sword for the first time and reaches out, I feel like one of the chain members would try to stop them (leaning towards time/ wild) so they could live out their childhood and have fun a bit longer
This kinda stemmed from my thoughts from a few posts of work with a few of the ghost Zelda’s and links meeting and talking to Flora and Wild mixed with a fic where wild encounters the ghost version of the chain and meets with them when the events of linked universe take place, same with reading through the “little link” tag on your blog mainly based off the second and third reasons. Anyway have my little brainrot
(If it’s okay, can I be bird anon if there isn’t one already? If there is I could be mushroom anon if it helps)
Bird or Mushroom work! Very few anons actually have given a tag for themselves so it's all for the picking. (like- there's Avi anon but if you just wanna go by Bird, then that works)
And oh my goodness, Ghost! Chain looking over Reader. My heart...
I bet it freaks out the village though. They chalk it up imaginary friends until little Reader knows something in history tat others haven't been able to figure out despite the clues.
But just... I want soft moment of the Chain looking after the next generations... even if they know there's nothing they can do to stop the flow of time- even if the moment to take up the mantel comes before either of them know it.

wwrr breaks my heart; you're very good at writing hurt no comfort! could i please request a fic about the palace of the four sword? whether that be legend going through it after the adventure (with his memories unlike wwrr), him recognizing the four from it and his reactions, the chain getting dropped in the palace, or the colors discovering their fate in some other manner, i can never get enough of the legend and four/legend and colors dynamic. ty in advance!
Hurt no comfort you say, anon? This ask touched on some old meta I’ve been thinking about for a long time about how in Zelda, sometimes a reflection means a perversion and sometimes it means a painfully accurate depiction. Literally I love thinking about it so much so thank you! I may even make this longer and post on Ao3 someday.
Title: Reflection
Words: 1165
Legend had known it would be a bad portal the moment he saw it sparking and crackling, but he still hadn’t expected to wake up in a body that was only his own on a technicality. Still groggy, he tried to get up, but his elbows weren’t bending the right way and his shoulders were in the wrong place and his hands weren’t even the- Godamnit. He’d have to wait for his hair to fade out all over again.
For a moment he thought that Twilight’s pendant had somehow found him during the switch, but his first deep breath revealed the undeniable signature of the Dark World. He curled his ears and wrinkled his nose at the bitter magic thrumming through his skin and electrifying the tips of his fur, forcing his body to morph into an embarrassing reflection of his soul.
It smelled like he was underground somewhere, and the echoes revealed he was in a large, mostly empty room. Legend inched forward, trying to find his bag and the Moon Pearls inside. His paw landed on a leather strap and he eagerly hopped forward, sticking his entire head through the flap.
And well, that one hop changed everything because he’d just ripped open the pouch of pearls when the floor beneath him slid aside with a metallic shink, dumping him, his bag, and all of its contents unceremoniously into the abyss.
Legend snapped a pearl out of the air just in time for his hylian spine to slam into a web of hanging chains and snap his jaw shut right on his tongue. Less than a second later he heard several bottles shatter and his ring box bust open on the floor beneath him.
Legend jerked, coughing the Moon Pearl into his hand before it could choke him or he somehow managed to swallow it. “Ugh, fuck!”
“Legend?” someone said, their voice drifting down the hallway, and it took him a second to recognize it as Four because it sounded nothing like him. Gone was his usual quiet confidence, the controlled tone, slight smirk, and unreadable eyes that made it seem like he always knew something you didn’t. Seeing your soul for the first time could do that to a person, so Legend wasn’t too concerned. He stilled, letting himself dangle there for a moment as he stared up at the hole he’d come from, kind of wishing he could put this whole day in reverse.
This room was well lit at least, and monster free too. He could clearly see the stonework, golden skulls, the single purple tile in the- Fuck.
Legend surged upright but mostly just succeeded in throwing himself at the floor. He landed in a crouch, nearly ending up on his back again when his ice rod slipped out from under his heel.
“Legend,” Four said again, a terrified question and a desperate lifeline all at once, a call for help and a clear show of vulnerability. Legend had the sudden, vivid thought that the secrets Four carried were now pecking at his lips and eyelids like a cucco until he admitted he was falling apart at the seams.
Fuck, of all the places they could’ve ended up, it just had to be the Palace of the Four Sword, didn’t it?
Legend reached down and began stuffing things into his bag, even though it was dripping with a dangerous magical cocktail of spilled potions and shattered glass. Legend slung his bag back over his shoulder and jogged down the hallway. “Four?” he called. He didn’t know what he expected to see when he reached the doorway of the Four Sword room, but this was the Dark World, and at first it looked pretty normal.
Four was standing in the middle of the Four Sword room, looking painfully, hopelessly lost. Legend blinked, trying to focus on his friend when he realized his eyes weren’t the problem: the outline of Four’s body was fuzzy, undefined, as if trying to separate from itself. Legend recognized the magic of the Dark World trying to force his form to match his soul. It was insane that he’d held out this long already.
A long time ago, in the absence of a pedestal, Legend had simply laid the restored Four Sword on the floor to rest. He almost regretted it now, seeing its gleaming twin on Four’s back compared to its own dirt, rust, and chips.
But Four wasn’t looking at the Four Sword, at least not anymore. He was looking at the back wall, at the mural there that echoed the story told throughout the palace, carvings and inlaid color that must’ve been searing when it was first placed, because even now it was bright.
In the mural, Legend was depicted in white, probably due to lack of options, and the darks were clearly shown for what they had been: the souls of the sword twisted and corrupted by the Malice in the Dark World. Some darks were simply reflections, Twili-born, undefinable without a counterpart in the light and intending to do nothing more than oppose them. But some were intentional perversions, Malice-wrought, caricatures of evil, intending to proactively sabotage a Link’s every goal in order to accomplish their own.
The Four Sword darks had been the second kind, and that’s how Legend knew that Four was more literal of a name than anyone thought. Because he’d fought darks with Four’s face and seen multiple people opposite in existence, not just in action.
Later he’d gotten dopples of his own, but he wore those bodies like a pair of shoes, each was just as much him as he was. He knew that with Four, it was deeper than that.
Four turned to look at him, and Legend took a step back when he realized Four was not as whole as he seemed. His eyes were a kaleidoscope of pain, confusion, a tetrad of color harshly divided, even more vivid than the mural. “Do you know what this place is?”
Legend swallowed and took a half a step forward. “It’s called the Palace of the Four Sword. We’re in the Dark World. The Sacred Realm was corrupted by Ganon in my era.”
“Did I- we…?” Four gestured helplessly at the mural behind him.
“The spirits of the sword were corrupted by the Malice here. They attacked me. They… they looked like you.”
Four dropped to his knees, hand clamped over his mouth. His body fuzzed even further until he was barely recognizable and Legend surged forward, digging around for another Moon Pearl.
Four grabbed his arm, looking up again with divided, teary eyes, but for a moment purple seemed to dominate. “How many were there?”
“How many what?”
“How many darks?”
“How many do you think?” Legend asked, trying not to let his fear show on his face. “Four, obviously.”
Four sobbed loudly and Legend threw himself back from the flash of light. When it faded, Four was divided in much more than eye color.

I do know the Legend/Marin fic you’re talking about. That would be a reasonable option for him, though he HAS been on so many adventures there’s plenty of opportunities.
Maybe Sky and Zelda got too happy after the wing ceremony? Maybe she’s pregnant the whole game while he’s chasing after her. Wouldn’t THAT add a level of drama?
Hyrule I think could be explained by not knowing better though. Also what about the woman with the red dress from Kasuto or Ruto or whatever town it was?
Adult Time from OoT probably still hadn’t had The Talk so I can see it happening because he also doesn’t know better. In Gerudo Fortress perhaps?
Warriors has multiple women throwing themselves at him, just pick one and it works
For Wind the obvious answer is Tetra but I think Medli is more interesting because what would a human/Rito look like?
There aren’t a lot of characters in Four’s games that I know so idk who. Maybe Elne/Erune from the manga? Also wouldn’t it be funny if it was just ONE of the four and so while they’re still split the other three are just like “sooo does that make it ours too or”
Anyway accidental dad club would be funny
Yeah, but I think Marin would be the only one Legend would... do that... with. I think anyway.
Like skyward sword needs more drama lol. But you’re right that would be interesting. (Impa would be even MORE annoyed at Link I bet)
Ehhh I think Time would still end up with Malon. Could see them messing around and going too far by accident. Or... Zelda/Sheik?
...I still just can’t see many of them doing this, maybe I’m just stuck on the... mild discomfort I have discussing it bjgdfhvfdg. But it just doesn’t seem like something they’d, I dunno, give into I guess, you know?
Accidental dad club is funny though

My Top Posts in 2022:

I am feeling super frustrated lately so days must be getting shorter again.
I made this the other day because I had time to kill. This is two versions of my cosplay. Both were taken by pro photographers at cons. 2019 is by Ashton Williams. 2022 is Bryan Humphries.
I was very, very pleased with both versions of this cosplay. In 2019 I was at my third con in as many months. I’d made myself a shield and custom painted my sword. I was asked shortly after that image if I was gender bending Link or crossplaying and I didn’t have an answer for that, so I had to do a lot of thinking on the subject, and that’s been really interesting. I wasn’t wearing makeup or contacts yet.
That 2019 photo sits in my kitchen, where I see it all the time.
So yes, very pleased with it, but it wasn’t where I wanted it to be yet.
In the 2022 image, the wig is the same, though it’s better styled. The pants and gloves are the same (the 2019 photo was the first time I wore leggings with this) The belts, bracer and the sword are the same. I thrifted the boots, but the tops were recycled out of the old pair. I have colored contacts and started figuring out how to change my face a little, and to hold myself different,y (both works in progress). I’ve started to learn to sew and the tunic is the second version I made- it’s linen and it hangs to the right spot. I had to make my own to get one that went over my hips. I made the cape you can see, too. I’ve got arm wraps that stay in place finally, and that Shiekah slate I made holds my phone.
I love everything about this 2022 photo, too. I think I’m going to get it printed out to sit next to the other one in my kitchen. It’s still not exactly where I want it, but it’s all just little refinements. Well, I want to make my own pants because I could use some more pockets. Plus pants look like a challenge. I can’t wait to see where he’s at in another year.
I’m a very competitive person and when I started cosplay it was easy to see someone who had been doing it a decade and feel discouraged. I still sometimes do that. It’s better for me to see where I’ve been and where I’ve gotten. I sometimes see artists here who redraw an image a year apart to show their growth. I think this is the same

I was out getting selfies with that guardian and several other Zelda cosplayers geeked out over my phone case. One of them asked if they could take a photo of me taking a selfie, so I obliged. Then they sent it to me.
I love this image, it’s pretty much a capture of my whole weekend

First draft of "Somebody Different" that I decided I would upload to here for the heck of it. If you haven't read the actual fic I don't recommend reading this, because I'm not going to continue this one lol
Warnings: rushed and lazy editing, character death, blood, Jin's bad writing, maybe some plot holes idk
-o-o-o-o-
"Get up, idiot," Legend growls. He presses down harder against the large gash running down the body's chest below him. Yet it was useless, his hands are too small to cover the large wound. Behind him, thunder rumbles like a bad omen, darkening the sky and carrying away the smell of monster blood with pure rain. The bodies of Moblins and Bokoblins litter the ground behind them.
Downed by a Moblin…
Wild gasps weakly. Where are the others? They would have potions, fairies, everything that's needed. They would save him, because there is no way Wild is going to meet his demise by taking the blow Legend should have seen coming. "Twilight will kill me if you die," he continues.
Wild is weakly shaming his head, as if he's saying it's already too late. No one is coming. He's going to die here. Legend feels panic swell in his veins.
"Don't- don't do this to me, Wild," he gasps and Wild's eyes flicker as they slowly close. Drops of rain begin to pain the world around them.
Where are the others? They got split up- the ambush was huge, the had to divide and conquer, but they'd have to have finished by now, right?
"I-" Wild gurgles out blood, it turns pink with the rain falling on his face.
"No-" Legend mutters, "no no no, Wild, stop."
What can he do? Wild is bleeding to death, his pulse getting weaker with each moment. He looks up from Wild and spins his head around, he doesn't know why. Maybe to see if someone's nearby? Maybe a magical jar of health position decided to pop into existence…
There's none of that, but there are towering cliffs in the distance. The Great Plateau.
"The Resurrection Shrine," he whispers.
"N-" Wild starts, his eyes are wide with panic but Legend's attention is caught by the sounds of yelling behind him.
"Legend?!" Time is the first to arrive, and it seems Legend is the first to be noticed. That doesn't last long before there are multiple bodies surrounding them.
"Wild?!" Twilight gasps, practically shoving Legend out of the way. Legend just manages to keep his hold on the wound. "Wild?!"
Wild looks up at him and splutters blood when more hands are pressing down onto his chest, Sky is using his own white cloth and Twilight his fur. It does nothing to stop the red seeping through. The rain is coming down hard now, almost masking the pounding in Legends ears.
"Health potion," Hyrule yells over the rain slamming into the ground, turning slightly pink around the growing puddle around Wild's body.
There's ruffling as multiple people start to rummage around in their pockets and bags, but as Legend looks at Wild's eyes, eyelids barely even responding to the drops landing on his face, he knows that he is going to die before any kind of potion can get to his lips.
"You're going to be okay," Legend says, but his voice is barely heard over Twilights own promises. Although, Wild finds the strength to look directly at Legend, for he must know that Legend is promising something different. "I'll make sure you'll be okay." He whispers as the rain flattens his hair against his head and neck, washing Wild's own hair light red with his own blood.
"N-no," Wild's gasps and the others assume it directed at him. They continue their assurances that he'd be fine, that Warrior found half a bottle of health potion, but Legend knows it's directed right at him by the way Wild's eyes seem to be looking right at his soul, full of desperation and terror. "Not- shrine-" his eyes screw up as coughing tears at his body, spewing blood out of his mouth and nose and splattering Sky, Twilight, and Legend with it.
Legend feels something horrifying stir in his chest at Wild's scared and small protests. It can't be possible that Wild would rather remain dead than go to the shrine?
Warrior scrambles up and is open his meager amount of his potion. It's almost hilarious that they do not have more. Wild looks at Legend again when his coughing settles, but his gaze is far away and cloudy. He whispers a small please before his gaze shifts a bit to the left and stays there.
"No!" Twilight practically screams. He rips the bottle out of Warrior's grasp and shoves it past Wild's slightly parted lips, dripping red liquid into his mouth, yet all that happens is it puddles in his mouth and streams lazily down his lips. Legend isn't surprised, Wild's chest has gone completely still beneath his stained fingers. "No! No!" Twilight continues to scream when Wild doesn't respond. Sky slumps back, eyes wide with shock, and Twilight starts to shake Wild's shoulders desperately, moving to slap his cheeks every so often. Legend slowly removes his hands and looks down as the rain around him slowly becomes s white, ringing noise. The liquid runs down his fingers, trailing the red with it, dripping it down his wrists and forearms. It doesn't get the blood between his fingernails.
The rest of them must have realized that nothing is going to save him because Twilight is suddenly sobbing and screaming as Time gently pries him away from the body. Four is standing there, his mouth covered by his hands with his eyes wide and reddening. Warrior and Hyrule are both staring at the skies like the couldn't believe what has happened. Wind is burrowing themselves into Sky's bloodied arms, shoulder shaking with his cries.
Wild remains still, dead, in a puddle of his own blood.
Thunder rumbles and lightning strikes. Legend turns from his arms and looks at the cliffs in the distance. He swallows and opens his mouth. For a second, no sound comes out and he fears he had gained Wild's muteness as a punishment, but eventually, strangled words manage to claw out of his throat.
"The shrine," he croaks. Twilight stops trying to get out of Times restraining hold and they all look at Legend like they didn't believe what he had just said. He looks at Wild's body, blinking water from his eyelashes and takes a deep breath. "The Shrine of Resurrection," he whispers, "it can help him."
"Let's do it," Twilight says immediately. His eyes are wet but full of determination. Time looks down at Twilight in surprise before he turns his head over to the Great Plateau.
"I don't know if that's a good idea," he says and Twilight begins to protest along with several other voices. Legend remains silent, his bit already said.
"How could you say that?" Four snarls, walking up to Time like he's about to throw hands. There are tears running down his face along with the drops of rain. "We need to try it. We can't just… let him die."
"But… what will it do to him?" Hyrule asks, and Time looks relieved that he isn't the only on hesitant to go through with the shrine. "Last time, he was asleep for a hundred hearts and forgot everything."
"There has to be another way," Time continues before Twilight can argue, "we can't rely on this extreme-"
"It's the only way," Sky speaks up, still clutching Wind to his chest. The sword on his back seems to be glowing never so slightly. "She says it's the only way to save him." His eyes look sad as he glances at Wild, like he would too agree with Time if the Master Sword hasn't said otherwise.
Twilight pushes against Time with all of his strength and stumbles out of reach. He kneels next to Wild before he goes to gather his body into his arms. "We're going to the shrine," he says, struggling to stand up with the weight. Wild's eyes remain open, allowing the rain to fall into them, his limbs are completely limp, hanging awkwardly out from Twilight's hold. He begins to walk towards the cliffs, feet pounding in the wet ground, being up splashes of mud.
"Sky," Time says, "are you sure that's what the master sword said?"
Sky nodded, pushing himself and Wind up to their feet. "She says it is the only way to bring him back," he repeats. He looks past Time towards where Wild was being carried bridal style through the storm to his only salvation. He frowns sadly. "But he won't thank us for it."
The group seems to all decide at the same moment that if it was the only way, they must risk it. Legend takes a few seconds longer to follow as he glances back to the spot Wild fell. Streams of water lazily flowed through the grooves in the dirt, slowly washing away the impossible amount of red. He swallows, thinking about how Wild practically begged him not to go to the shrine, but… this was all his fault. He should have been more aware, he should have seen the monster coming. Wild shouldn't have had to jump in the way.
It was all his fault, and the guilt, the thought that it should be him lying dead on the ground, outweighs the small sliver of hesitation he has that what they are about to do will be one of the biggest mistakes they have ever made.
-o-o-o-o-
The storm is long past by the time Legend can see the shrine up ahead. The sky is only slightly covered by clouds, allowing glorious sunlight to stream down and shine upon each of the heroes as they trekked. Legend picks at his fingernails as he walks, doing his best to get the dried blood out from them, and maybe then when he's done he'll feel like he wasn't drowning, like he wasn't forever stained, tainted with his own companion's death.
Yet, as they all stood at the mouth of the shrine leading into the mountain, Legends fingernails we're clean, but he felt furthest from it. He still felt as dirty as he had before the rain washed everything away. He glances at Wild, still cradled against Twilight's chest. His skin is horribly white and his cheeks already sunken. His hair trails down, hanging with tips stained with mud. His eyes are closed now, closed by Hyrule who couldn't stand to see his foggy white eyes any longer as they traveled.
He feels like he needs to throw up.
"We're here," Time says wearily. Everyone peeks into the shrine like there's a beast within its belly, waiting to strike them down the moment the enter. He places a hand on Twilight's shoulder but Twilight shoves himself out of it and strides inside. One by one, the rest follow. Legend takes a couple breaths to calm the panic in his gut before he walks inside. The clean air turns dusty, reminding him of all the times he had plunged himself into caves and dungeons, wearing the title of hero on his chest like a badge. He doesn't feel like that now. No, this time all he can feel is terror. Like he is the terrible monster they all fear would materialize out from the shadows.
Turn around, the creature you fear isn't hiding behind the corners or crawling down your spines, it's me. Because I killed him. It's my fault he's here.
The sword on Sky's back glows, like it's speaking to him. For a second, Legend hopes that it's telling Sky to strike Legend down with it. Maybe if he's the one laying on the ground lifeless, Hylia would take mercy and trade their lives. He wants to scream, because it should be him. That gaping wound on Wild's chest should be on his own. He should have been the one choking on his own blood, he should have been the one whose last sight was the stormy sky above.
Warrior jumps down the small drop first and helps lower Wild's body down, of which has gone stiff a few hours before. By the way Warrior frowns as he holds Wild's body against his, he must be lighter than what he was expecting. That fact makes Legend dizzy with guilt.
Twilight is next to jump down and he practically tears Wild's body away from Warrior and continues deeper into the dimly lit shrine. When Legend's feet land in the small puddle of water below him, he looks in front of him and sees a small staircase leading up to where remains of wooden boxes lay next to two opened chests. For a second, Legend feels like he's out of his body, out of his time, and watching as Wild stumbles out practically naked, seeing everything for the first time. He can almost hear Wild's bare feet pad on the ground, see where he kneels down and opens each chest to grab whatever could have been inside. Link may have been born a hundred years before he woke up, but this was Wild's awakening. This was his first steps, his first breaths, his first blinks and thoughts and feelings. This was where his life started.
And now he is back.
And it's all Legend's fault.
They continued down deeper into the room, climbing the steps and glancing at the walls in wonder. Legend kept his gaze focused on the open doorway ahead of them, thinking that it could be mistaken as a terrible beast waiting for them to walk inside its mouth.
The chamber is cold. That's the first thing Legend notices as they walk into the room. It's as icy and heartless as the sword on his back. It glows in a dim blue light and it repeats their every step with eerie echoes. In the middle is what looks like a tub. It's empty, and it reminds Legend more like a tomb than anything else. It was certainly not welcoming.
"We… have to undress him," Sky says. Twilight doesn't even question it as he gently lays Wild's stiff body on the ground and begins to unlatch belts and tear through halfway destroyed clothes with shaking hands. Wild's body acts like he's been frozen. His joints don't move as fluidly as they should and when Time kneels down to help Twilight get the trousers off, his whole body follows the movement as of he were a statue. A few hours ago, Legend had thought that no one should have been as limp as Wild was, but now, as rigor mortis has settled in, he thinks that no one should be that still.
The strip Wild down to his undergarments. Red paints his chest, making it look like his whole chest was torn right off, but Legend can see where skin folds upwards from his left collar bone all the way to his right hip. It's black, but if one looks closer they can see the sickening color of Wild's white ribs. He didn't have a chance of survival after gaining that wound. Legend's eyes trail over the man scars on Wild's naked body, and he wonders if Wild would keep this one too.
"Okay," Twilight says, his voice is quiet and raspy, he hasn't talked since he had fist picked up the body. "We… put him in now?"
No one answers him for a few seconds, and Legend realizes how little they had planned this through. What do they do now? He looks down at Wild's discarded clothes and sees a small slight growling orange. He looks behind him and sees a pedestal with a small, rectangular shape in the middle.
"Put him in," Legend says, and the words come out of his throat like tar. It feels like he's condemning Wild to a fate worse than death. He pushes that aside and swallows, he steps forward and reaches through the clothes with sickening brown stains and picks up the Sheikah Slate. He turns and sees everyone looking at him sadly.
They don't know it's his fault.
"Put him in," he repeats as his heart pounds terribly hard in his chest. He's afraid everyone can hear it.
Twilight thankfully doesn't need to be told a third time before he gently picks Wild up like he is a sleeping child. Legend turns and walks over to the pedestal, holding the slate in his shaking hands. He turns just in time to see Twilight lower Wild down into the empty chamber, brushing his long hair away every so slightly before he steps back, folding his arms across his stomach like he was fighting off nausea.
Legend turns back and holds the slate in front of him. He stands there, for probably too long, as words whisper in his ears like a haunted song. "no, please, not the shrine."
"Please…"
He swallows and fights the stinging in his eyes as he lowers the slate down, placing it in it's small, hallowed out spot. A mechanical beep comes from the machine and the lights flashed. The mechanism latch onto the slate and spin one, twice, before coming to a stop and flipping the slate upside down. The air seems to grow colder as a loud humming noise started up. The sound of water follows not long after.
Legend turns back and watches with the others as glowing blue liquid begins to fill the chamber from out of nowhere. Twilight looked ready to grab Wild when the liquid seeped over his chest. The dried blood instantly seemed to vaporize into nothing as the liquid continued further up, leaving his wound completely exposed to the substance. The liquid traveled higher and Legend had to fight to keep breathing when it rose above Wild's face, completely submerging him.
Wind was the first to break the silence when the mechanism halted.
"Will he remember us?"

Note
I just finished reading The Ties that Bind, and I love it! I have a small suggestion, one that you could completely ignore if you would like. Will Fable, Legend’s Zelda, meet Sky? Or Sky and the rest of the chain? I feel like that would be fun. But this is just an idea that I had, I’m not pressuring you do to anything.
I'm sorry it took so long to get to your ask, Anon! I've been thinking about this for a while, and the truth is that, while I would LOVE to have Sky meet all of his daughters at some point, I don't know if it will happen in the main plot of the story itself.
Currently in the story, they are in Legend's Hyrule, so there is a good chance of it happening, I just don't know if it will.
Considering this came along with various fic requests, I did end up writing something where they 'meet' but.. I'm terribly sorry, it's entirely crack, and I took way too many liberties with it.
I hope it will do to hold you over until Fable can make an actual appearance in the story!
“So, we finally get to meet your sister?” Hyrule asked, following as Legend led their group down the halls of Hyrule castle.
“Yes.”
“Yes!” Wind pumped his fists. “The only Zelda we haven’t met! I wonder what she’s like?”
“Kickass.” Legend smirked, stopping before one of the opulent doors and turning to face them. “I’d watch yourselves.”
There were a lot of things the Chain was expecting to see when they walked through the doors, but Warriors wasn’t expecting to see a young woman who looked quite ridiculously like Legend, if not for the haircut, spinning around to see look at them before having a wide smile break over her face.
“Z?”
“Link!” And the princess was running, running forwards with feather soft, tinkling laughter into the arms of...Wild? “Oh, Link! I haven’t seen you in ages! Why, look at you! Growing your hair out I see.” Another giggle drifted into the air as the girl brushed a hand through the Champion’s messy bangs.
Wild flushed slightly, much to the shock of all present, but especially to Legend, who stared between the two with his mouth hanging open.
“Everyone’s missed you so terribly, especially after you disappeared so suddenly! The Master was absolutely furious.” Fable added with a nervous laugh, smacking Wild’s arm lightly. “Thank goodness I can tell him all is well and you didn’t get killed or something, we thought he’d oust Robin for good when we couldn’t find you!”
Wild winced, nodding slightly. “I’m on another quest, but maybe I can send a letter? The mail system is working pretty well, for some reason.”
“Not out of Hyrule unfortunately.” Fable pouted, seemingly taking no interest in noticing the rest of them for the moment, instead continuing to stand in Wild’s personal space, neither having quite let go from their unexpected and rather startling hug. “Without you, the Master has closed all contact with Hyrule; I don’t think he wanted anything else to happen, especially since Mother would have been furious if someone else had gone missing.”
“Wait,” Warriors turned to see Wind staring at the- couple? Duo? “Zelly?”
“Tune!” Fable squeaked, pulling away from Wild and darting over to hug the second smallest hero. “My goodness you’ve grown! Are the two of you on an adventure together then? Wonderful!” Ocean blue eyes trailed up to look at the rest of their gang and Fable brightened even more. “Why, all of you are here!”
“All of us?” He couldn’t keep confusion from his tone as he spoke, quirking a brow.
“Well, nearly all,” Fable frowned, setting Wind down to gently stroke her chin. “And here I hoped to see Young Link again.”
Warriors was going to lose his mind. “Young Link?” His eyes turned to Time, who smiled with a light flush, raising one hand in a nearly shy wave.
“Hey, Zelly.”
The princess gasped, hands flying up to cover her mouth as she stared upwards to meet Time’s gaze. “Young Link? My. Goodness! Look- Oh my! You’re all grown up, aren’t you? I declare, you get even more terrifying than half of the others!”
“Legend,” Sky was grinning as bright and warm as the princess, eyes sparkling in the same manner and erasing any doubt that he was the young woman’s ancestor. “You didn’t tell us your sister was The Princess Zelda!”
Legend stared up at his ancestor in disbelief before shaking off Sky’s hands and throwing up his own. “That’s it,” The vet spun on his heel and turned towards the door. “I’m gonna go bang my head against the wall for an hour, toodles.”
“Well,” Fable turned to Sky with a bright grin. “It is wonderful to see you again, Link. Good heavens, how on earth do all of you handle being ‘Link’, it was bad enough having you all switch out, but now you’re all together at once! How do you handle it?”
“I go by Sky,” The Skyloftian replied with a fond smile. “He’s Wild, Wind, and Time. We use our hero titles.”
“Oh! That is clever! Sheik and I both have different names, so I suppose had it easy, I’m surprised no one thought of that before, what with how you all switched out so often- oh!” And the princess was spinning around to look up at Twi. “We’ve missed you too of course, but I must ask, since you’re all apparently time-traveling or some nonsense, could you give a message to your Zelda for me? I haven’t seen her in ever so long, and I do miss being able to talk over things with her.”
“I’ll pass it along.”
“You too.” She turned to Time, brows furrowing lightly. “Sheif is so terrible about writing to me, and I’ve missed being able to ask for advice with my fighting skills.”
“Understood.” Time grinned, earning a mirror expression from the princess.
How the heck was everyone taking this all in stride? Was Legend’s sister...dating Wild or some shit? How did she know Wind and Time? How did she know Sky? How did she know any of them?
“So,” Twilight cocked a hip and stared down at the princess with a warm smile. “They let you stay around, even after switching out all of us?”
“Yep! I am, apparently, quite the favorite. As is L- I mean Wild.” She sent a warm smile towards said hero, who flushed with pleasure. Ew.
“Should’a known it, he's a good kid.”
“He says you mentored him, so I suppose that can be attributed, in part, to you!”
“Aw, thanks, Zelly.”
Warriors would like a drink now please.
“Wait,” Four stared at the princess, eyes slitted and brows furrowed in a way that revealed he was clearly having a headache as well. “You’re- good grief- you know all of us, don’t you?”
Warriors really needs a drink. Seriously? Four too?
“And who are you?” Fable cocked her head.
Four flushed, ducking his head. “Hero of the Four Sword.”
Like a switch had been flipped, recognition sparked in Fable’s gaze. “Oh! That- that makes sense! I had forgotten, I suppose, how you all- well-” She waved her hand vaguely, and while none of the others seemed to understand it (thank Hylia he wasn’t the only one), Four apparently did. “You don’t think it’s weird?”
“Heavens no!” Fable drew back, looking mildly offended. “Link- my Link- or rather, my brother- Good heavens, what on earth do you all call him?”
“Idiot. Pain in the ass. Veteran.” Warriors listed off, making sure his displeasure with being left out of the conversation was made very clear.
“Legend.” Hyrule answered, shooting a glare Warriors’ way.
“Legend, my, that fits,” Fable shook her head with another tinkling laugh. “Does the same thing, albeit in a different manner and without the use of the Four Sword.”
“Heard that!” Legend shouted from just outside the room. “Stop telling them things!”
“Then come in here and make me, you sissy!”
The vet stormed back in, cheeks red and brow looking considerably more bruised than it had been ten minutes previous. “Not a sissy.”
“Yet you only appear on occasion, and never fight?” The princess snarked, hands on her hips.
“Do I look like I have the time to be fighting?” Legend returned, mirroring her pose with enough attitude to match the blue flames of the princess’s gaze.
“Well, if you have time to play dress up-”
“Necessary for a mission, miss ‘I fight duels in my regalia’.”
“I win duels in my regalia, thank you very much.”
“Heck yeah you do.” And was that- pride in the vet’s voice? “You scare the shit out of all of them.”
“I always was the better of the two of us at doing that, you just spend your time talking to cuckos and wearing my clothes.” The princess smirked.
Legend didn’t even have the decency to flush, crossing his arms with a smirk of his own. “You have to admit, I look better in it than you do.”
“Yes.” Fable beamed. “Yes, you do, and I hate it.” Her smile said the opposite but the conversation seemed to be over at that, the princess turning to continue conversing with the other heroes only to spin around again and clap her hands. “Oh! You're off exploring and adventuring, so you drop a message for me! Tell Peach and Daisy that I’m awful sorry I missed tea last time, we’ve been trying for weeks to get around to it, but with L- Wild having disappeared, the Master simply won’t give me the free time and Mother’s been just as strict.”
Legend pouted. “Only if they’re the only ones home, if I have to see that insufferable plumber’s face again I think I might just punch him.”
“Please do.” Fable spat. “He used that stupid hat of his to mind control me and make me kick the crap out of my team.”
“He mind controlled my sister?” Legend hissed.
“Yes, that dumb hat of his is sentient now, and he can force us to do things.”
“I hate that thing.” Wild scowled.
“Same.” Several others echoed.
Sky looked between them all. “Are we talking about Mario? Because if so, Legend, I will totally join you in punching him in the face, that guy is a pain!”
“Oh, him!” Hyrule scowled. “I don’t like him; he grates on my nerves like nobody's business.”
“He’s worse than Tingle.” Wind added, face screwed up in distain.
“Seconded.” Twilight and Time called out together.
“Third, Fourth, Fifth and sixthed.” Four added.
“Just because your name is ‘Four’ doesn’t mean you get four votes.” Warriors groaned, staring at his companions in irritation. “And who the heck are you all talking about? How do all of you know him? Is he immortal?”
“Hylia, I hope not.” Nine voices groaned at once.
“Neighboring kingdom.” Legend replied. “The Mushroom kingdom’s own hero is an idiot plumber by the name of Mario. His twin isn’t bad, but he’s a piece of work. I’ve had to deal with outbreaks of monsters from their kingdom on multiple occasions because he can’t keep them contained. Add in there that their princess is captured every other Tuesday because the guy can’t up and beat her kidnapper for good, and the kingdoms a mess.” Legend paused, frowning. “Wait, I just agreed to go there, didn’t I?”
“Yep.” Fable chirped. “But don’t worry, Bowser is hanging out with his kids this weekend, so he shouldn’t be causing problems while you’re all here.”
Warriors groaned, this time, loud enough that all of them heard him. “Bowser? Are you on a familiar enough standing with some villain that he tells you his weekend plans?”
“Yes.” The twin siblings answered, Fable bright and cherry while Legend deadpanned.
“We even play sports with him on occasion.” Fable added.
“And who,” Warriors tacked on, absolutely done and uncaring for the fact that apparently Legend and Fable played golf or something with their neighboring kingdoms greatest threat. “The heck! Is Mario?”
Nine pairs of eyes stared back at him for a moment, blinking in confusion.
“You know,” Twilight stated slowly. “Has anyone actually ever seen Wars at an event?”
“Come to think of it,” Fable tapped her chin. “You are the only one I’ve never seen before.”
“The only one?” Can Warriors please get a drink?
“I’ve met all of the others, be it in racing, sports, fighting matches, any number of things, but I don’t think I’ve ever even seen you, much less heard of you. Who are you?”
“That,” Legend smirked. “Is the Hero of Warriors. And I don’t know if I should laugh or feel bad that he was never popular enough to get selected for the games.”
“You weren’t either.” Wind hissed.
“Mom said I was on bed rest from being struck by lightning.” Legend waved him off. “I’ve had my time in the Mushroom kingdom, and if they ever do invite me back, I’d burn that Smash invite so fast the Master would think it never arrived.”
That’s it. He’s done. “Legend, I’m stealing your thunder-”
“Please do.”
“I’m going to go bang my head against the wall until the world makes sense again, or until I black out, Bye.” And with that, Warriors left.
(This entire fic was inspired by @tortilla-of-courage, her blog had a stint of asks about the boys knowing each other from Mario Kart and whatnot and it set my brain spinning. I blame her that this was the only thing I could think of when trying to write Sky meeting Fable. Thank's Tortilla!)

Sometimes Things Have to Get Worse Before They Get Better
This is essentially a darker, heavier alternate take on Memory #7 - Blades of the Yiga. I wanted to write a fic with a competent Yiga Clan. (Yes you read that right). It is very angsty in the beginning and then becomes fluffy (hence the title!)
Summary: Link and Zelda have returned from Vah Naboris with Urbosa and have spent the night in Kara Kara Bazaar Inn. Link wakes up and finds her missing.
Cue the angst.
This story is complete and I will post each chapter daily on here but you can read the whole thing on AO3
Rating: Mature (Graphic descriptions of violence) Pairing: Link/Zelda (Zelink) Characters: Link, Zelda, The Yiga Clan, Master Kohga
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6
Chapter 7: Dawn of the Second Day
TW: Huge wounds, massive haemorrhage (a lot of blood loss yes I am a medic geek) and pain. Also Nintendo owns Legend of Zelda and some of the dialogue used. Please don't sue me.
This time, they teleported in, grabbed him, and teleported out.
Zelda screamed his name, but it got lost in the vortex of red paper slips, as he felt his insides split apart and then reform.
He was glad though. Incredibly glad that they’d taken him and not his Princess. He ended up on the floor, in the big arena that wasn’t an arena and he coughed, trying to get the sand out of his mouth, and eyes.
He heard Zelda shouting for him, and it suddenly hit him-this was it. The perfect opportunity. He could try and get her out. He was outside Hylia above!
And just as he thought that, four giant metal clamps locked onto his limbs. And that same cursed red glowing thing was applied so he couldn’t move. He swore at them but stopped struggling. He would have to bide his time, he already felt a little weak from not eating for three days, so every store of energy was precious right now. He had to wait for the perfect opportunity and then unleash it all.
He took a moment to try and calm down. Think things through. He was outside the cell, that was better than being inside. He just had to be observant and careful. He started by trying to determine what their motive was, but he wasn’t sure what was happening. Why had they decided to take him out, if they were only going to restrain him down again?
He looked up, at least they hadn’t clamped his neck. And then a… well. There was no polite way to think of him, if Link was being honest. And frankly, being polite was really quite low down in his list of concerns at the minute.
The Yiga Clan were... normally, at least, easily categorisable. All the Yiga Foot soldiers were thin, agile, capable of moving at lightning speed with their teleportation. The Blademasters were by comparison much larger, and they wielded the more powerful windcleaver. And now he knew of the researchers, but they looked a lot like the Foot soldiers, just with a red lab coat on.
This man… although dressed as a Yiga, didn’t match one of the above categories. He was, well, fat. He had a huge abdomen, which Link didn’t really see working in a fight, either with a sickle or a windcleaver and he was confused really. It was the most bizarre thing he’d seen since arriving.
Link wondered if the lack of food was getting to him.
“Yeah, IT'S YOU! You're that Link guy I've been looking for! And the Princess of course but she’s BORING."
Uh… what? This guy had been… looking… for him? Not to sound egoistical, but wasn’t it really obvious who he was? He literally wore bright blue and had the Master Sword strapped to his back. Admittedly, he didn’t have those two things right now but…
"I need to bust out my serious moves... A secret technique taught by my mother's father! It will...destroy you!"
Uh yeah. It probably would do that because Link was currently strapped to the floor with no weapons. So, whatever this guy chose to do, it would, in all likelihood, work by default.
“Release him from the magnesis bonds! NO WAIT! I need to finish my speech first!”
This man was starting to get on Link’s nerves, like a bratty child who wanted a sweet. But he just said to release his bonds. Yes, if that happened, he would destroy them all, steal all their weapons, physically break down those bars, rescue his Princess and then hightail it out of the desert. So, he would remain calm. Collected. And not think of what happened yesterday.
“Now. Hero of Hyrule. I will DUEL you. So someone told someone who told someone yada yada yada that I should give you a fair chance, and something testing something Princess, I'm not sure, I fell asleep half-way through, so here we are. Of course, you’re a KNIGHT so I assume you know what a DUEL is!"
Link remained silent. He figured it probably wouldn't work in his favour if he started to laugh.
"You know, your silence really is unnerving. ANYWAY, I will fight with my chosen weapons, and you will be provided with a Duplex Bow, ten arrows, a Vicious Sickle and a Windcleaver. A very generous selection, in my opinion. If you defeat me, I will allow you to walk away.” Link’s eyes widened. “YES, WALK AWAYYY!” He laughed, “I won’t kill you to DEATH! Even-if-that's-what-I-really-want-can-you-imagine-being-named-Top-Banana-Of-The-Yiga-Clan-comma-Slayer-Of-The-Hero!”
Okay yeah, there was clearly something wrong with this guy, but Link focussed on the important parts. A Duel. Of which the outcome would be freedom. But. He hadn’t mentioned Zelda. No matter, Link would be a fool not to accept. He’d defeat this fat lug and then Kill. Them. All.
And those Blademasters that had stood on that cursed table? He’d make sure to find his sword and would ensure they suffered a slow, prolonged death. But first, he’d win, take Zelda to the Castle where she’d be safe, and then he’d come back. And exterminate them like the rats they were.
He nodded.
They dropped the connection, freeing him, and he didn’t try anything. Not yet anyway. Once they gave him weapons though, Link would forgo whatever pact he’d made with this man. This didn’t count as an honourable situation anyway, this wasn’t a duel between Knights, it was a duel between captor and captee.
What he hadn’t been expecting, was the fat man to throw a small capsule in the middle of the hole, and the capsule didn’t fall, no, it hovered in place. And the outlines of a dome formed, it extended from the centre of the seemingly bottom-less hole and spread out to include a small ring of sand around said hole. All of a sudden, sound seemed to stop coming through, and he could barely hear Zelda, although maybe she’d come to realise it was futile and had gone quiet.
The capsule made a clicking noise, like an activation of something, and then a burst of red light cascaded from it, down the dome, forming a crimson-lined grid along the surface, almost like red electricity was crawling along the lines. They connected to metal ridges that Link hadn’t even noticed in the sand. He swallowed. He knew, instinctively, that he wouldn’t be able to escape. He wouldn’t be able to get out. Because it was the same thing that had trapped him in those cuffs.
It would have to be honourable. By default.
Still, Link wasn’t feeling that scared. If the fat man wanted a duel, Link would give it to him.
“In the name of Calamity Ganon!” He pranced around, shimmying from one foot to the other. "That's what you say when you start a DUEL right?!"
Link decided to ignore him, and simply looked over to where he thought the Princess was, the red light made it hard to see. “In the name of Princess Zelda Bosphoramus Hyrule, my charge, my liege… my Princess.” And his heart whispered one more thing, my soulmate.
It had started out well enough, the man simply summoned rocks at him, not unlike an octorok, but these ones were considerably larger, with a glowing upside down Sheikah eye on them. Still, he dispatched the obnoxious man in quick time, shooting a well-timed arrow into his head, and then jumping in bullet-time to attack with the sickle.
And then the fat man got angry, stamping his foot into the ground like a child having a tantrum. He moved to hover on top of the hole, and this time he had a blue barrier. Link had wasted one arrow hitting it, only for it to bounce right off. Useless. And there was no way for Link to jump in, seeing as he was without his paraglider and he'd fall down anyway, not sideways to the centre of the abyss where the man was.
So, he bid his time, going as far back as possible and decided to just observe the attack. He remained calm, although for some reason he was a little more flustered than he ordinarily was. Perhaps because the Princess’s safety relied on this fight. Yes, that wasn’t an unusual occurrence, but normally, she’d be hidden, well-protected, should anything go wrong with him. This time… If he failed, then who knew what the consequences would be.
He refocussed, the next move simply involved two rocks hovering horizontally and then vertically to the man, where his barrier faulted for a split second, just before he chucked them at Link. It was easy enough to dodge, and now Link knew what to do. He simply hit the man when the barrier was down, and the Yiga lost control of the rocks, so they hit him instead. After another couple of rounds, where Link looked worryingly at his meagre five remaining arrows, another tantrum fest occurred, this time jumping up and down with one foot whilst floating. Link rubbed his eyes in case he was hallucinating. No, he wasn’t.
And that is where everything went wrong.
The man was now using that accursed red thing to move a giant metal ball at him. The ball had spikes. Huge ones at that. And despite Link keeping his eyes trained on the man, his barrier did not fall. Not once.
Crap.
How?! How could the Yiga mentally control metal?! How was he supposed to defeat him now?
The spiked sphere continued to crawl after him, a slow and steady reminder of what was coming. Link was trying hard not to panic. What else could he do? He didn’t have any of his other weapons. He didn’t have shock arrows. He didn’t have his bomb bag. Maybe he could parry the sphere? But he didn’t have a shield either. He cried, almost, thinking back to his prized Hylian shield sitting in the Inn at Kara Kara Bazaar.
What else what else what else
He knew one thing for certain though. He wouldn’t be able to keep up running forever. Not as weak as he currently was from all the stresses over the past two days and the lack of food. Yes, the sphere moved slowly. But it moved. And eventually he would tire.
The man took back the sphere and Link aimed, hoping his barrier would come down for one second, but no. All he did was pause before sending the sphere. Straight. Back. At. Him.
Goddesses above he wouldn’t last.
Was this his true Hero trial?
Was this how he would die?
He decided to try to use the windcleaver to generate some gush of air that would what? Move the giant ball? He was crazy enough to at least attempt because what else could he do? None of his weapons would even reach the man, even if he chucked them, let alone penetrate the seemingly solid blue barrier.
He ran to the edge of the dome, hoping to be a little out of the ball's range to give him some breathing room should this go wrong, but he had no such luck, because it came, hard and fast for him. He waited until it came close then swung the blade down and tried to repel it.
It obviously failed; no colossal, incredibly heavy, metallic sphere was going to shift with the mere power of air.
Belatedly, he realised that the fat man could afford to be fat. Who was going to hurt him if he could levitate himself out into a pit of no end so there was no hope of reaching him, put up a barrier that you had no hope of penetrating, trap you in a hemisphere so you were effectively at his mercy and was armed with a deadly weapon only he could control?
Link only had just about enough time to turn, for his fingers to hit the dome, before the spikes rammed into his back and Link heard himself scream.
He was used to pain, he thought distantly. He’d hurt himself so many times, from climbing accidents, to training mishaps, to when he’d first started fighting monsters, especially those Goddess damned Lynel swords, oh, wait, no, the crushers were worse.
But he’d never had enormous sharp cones ram into his back, upper thigh and calves, all at once. He was effectively pinned against the dome. And then the ball was pulled out, and shoved right back in.
And again.
And again.
And then for flavour, the fat man shifted it just to the right, so now his wounds grew and grew, until he was slowly ripped apart, until the only thing actually holding him upright was the metal sphere.
Link lost track of everything. He’d never felt so humiliated, so weak.
He’d never lost a fight.
What would happen now? What would happen to him and Zelda?
He felt wet, lethargic and so, so heavy. Which struck him as odd, especially considering he’d probably lost a lot of blood. Shouldn’t he be light?
Little spots of blackness coated his vision, somehow he blinked and he was on the floor, on his knees, the dome gone, his hands shaking trying to hold himself up. His blood rushed through his ears, thundering too loudly, and everything else was muted, muffled, and he could no longer focus properly.
"-oga! Did you se- I did i-"
Link must have blacked out again, because the next thing he knew he was being hauled by his armpits back into the cell, and his injuries were stretched even more, and Link screeched in pain. He was so far gone it was silent, and he lost consciousness yet again, because he practically fell on top of Zelda, landing on his front, in her arms. She was shaking, maybe? Or was it him? Probably him, but he couldn’t tell, and he heard her furiously mutter under her breath about hypo-something shock, but really, he was barely holding onto the few remaining threads of consciousness he had.
“Link?” She sounded frightened, but he couldn’t bring himself to respond. Instead, when he opened his mouth, he coughed up an alarming amount of blood. He felt some of it dribble down his chin and he heard her half scream in response.
“LINK! No! In - name of Hylia st- with me! Link!” She gently held his head in her hands, his head rolling in her hold because he'd now lost what little control he had over his muscles. He focussed on the softness of her touch, and how it contrasted so deeply to the agony that he was in, although everything was dulled around the edges right now, probably from the blood loss. He stared at the growing pool of bright crimson around them, it seemed to be coming from everywhere. Like he was a dam that had suffered too many hits and now all the water was leaking through. That wasn’t that far from the truth to be fair.
“Zel-” He tried to say something, to reassure her that he would fight to stay awake. But it ended in another, harsher, coughing fit, and it felt like Daruk had grasped his chest in his hands and squeezed. Dear Goddesses, he felt his vision start to fade again, it was already half faded, in all honesty. And it scared him, because this wasn't the same blackness he'd had after being knocked cold from a fight. This was darker, more permeating. It felt... more permanent.
She cried, and it pained him to see her tears for him, but the blackness forced its way upon him, and he slowly closed his eyes, trying his hardest not to give in, but even from the start he knew it was a losing battle. Vaguely he wondered if the sword would remember him. He wondered what would happen to his family, to Hyrule, to her, if there was no Hero for the Calamity. He wondered, if he'd had more time, more courage, if he and Zelda could have-
She cradled his head in her arms, gently brushing his matted hair away from his forehead, and he allowed himself a final deep breath, for her lavender to imprint in his mind one last time.
Link was not... scared of death. He knew it was inevitable, and there was a significant probability of him dying, either in the line of duty to the Crown, or against the Calamity, his destiny-chosen battle. But... he was scared now. He was scared of what the consequences of him dying meant. Her verdant eyes stared at him, and she was saying something but he could no longer hear. She was his biggest regret, he couldn't stomach leaving her, here and now, because who knew what horrors would await her once he left. So much guilt, so much shame, so much despair hit him, in the final moment but there was nothing left to he done. He tried to convey that to her, through his gaze, that he was sorry, for not being enough, for not doing enough, for failing to get her out of here- the list continued, but he was rapidly losing what little control he had left, and he felt his eyes glaze over. He’d seen enough death to know where he stood. Because everything ached, he felt increasingly weaker, and his breathing grew progressively more ragged, as stabs of pain shot up his ribs for every centimetre he inhaled in.
He gasped for air, one final time, trying to commit her to his memory, and that seemed to be the very last assault his body could handle. Because within seconds he lost all sense of the world, his final thought was of his silent princess, and of a lullaby, that would forever haunt him till the end of time.
