Hi! Can you please recommend some enemies to lovers to enemies trope / Friends to enemies to lovers?? Thanks!
Generally, the trope is usually enemies to lovers, or friends to lovers, so maybe you want fics with a different twist to them and it's all not just a happy ending? Here are some where they start as either friends, become lovers, but it's not so simple and they have to overcome obstacles to be together. Or they are enemies, become lovers and then have some sort of fall out, which may or may not be resolved. ~ Jen
Please suggest others!!
In Every Stitch verse by @quizasvivamos
24-year-old Blaine Anderson and 26-year-old Kurt Hummel are both breakout designers who had gained the attention of the public by competing on the reality television hit Project Runway in their respective seasons. When both are invited back to compete in the All Star challenge, the competition heats up, tension builds between the two, and what happens off camera changes everything.
and Part 2 emBarK and Part 3 Out with a Bang
~~~~~
Collide by @scatter-the-stars
Kurt Hummel is having a terrible week. On top of his car breaking down and his laptop dying at the worst time possible, finding his boyfriend cheating on him is the final straw against the camel’s back. A night of drinking is much deserved. But waking up in bed with star quarterback Blaine Anderson is something he doesn’t need. Determined to forget it and move on, he finds that hard when Blaine has other ideas. At first wanting nothing to do with the biggest playboy on campus, somehow Kurt finds himself agreeing to being friends with Blaine. It’s a friendship that opens his eyes to the guy he never really knew. And soon finds him wanting the one person he maybe shouldn’t want.
Note: Part 1 of Major and Minor
~~~~~
In My Place by @heartsmadeofbooks
Blaine has always been shy and introverted, so after his father dies, he looks for comfort into his childhood dream - owning a bookstore. But then Kurt Hummel walks into his life, turning his dream into a complicated affair.
~~~~~
The Seduction by @hkvoyage
Venetian Blaine arrives at Carnival’s masquerade ball, looking for his next conquest. His reputation as a lover is legendary, and no one can resist him. Virgin Kurt captures his attention, but seducing him will require careful planning. As they spend time together, will Blaine be able to carry out his plan successfully? A historical Klaine AU set in 18th-century Venice.
~~~~~
Someone Like You by iconicklaine
Kurt and Blaine keep up their very own version of “When Harry Met Sally” for years, a friendship fraught with sexual tension and longing, until the agendas of Adele (yes, THE Adele), a bored NY socialite and a super-sweet hetero couple bring our boys together. The only problem is… they’re both in committed relationships.
Note: This story is AU after “Sexy,” and assumes Kurt and Blaine graduate from Dalton in the same year. In this future fic, set in 2025, Blaine is based off of Season 2 Blaine.
~~~~~
100 Days by borogroves
Kurt and Blaine have been best friends (and nothing more) since the age of six. Now 22-year-old college graduates, they take a roadtrip around the USA, visiting every state in 100 days. Fifty states. Two boys. One love story.
~~~~~
Perfectly Imperfect by @catcat-85
Golden Globe winning actor, Blaine Anderson went to prison for a murder he did not commit. After 5 long years, he has escaped from prison, and in a desperate need to get to a safe house before he can leave the country; he kidnaps Kurt, and forced him to drive him to a secluded cabin nestled in between the snowy mountains in Vermont. For Blaine, it’s his last chance for freedom. Falling in love is the last thing on Blaine’s mind. It’s not part of the plan. And for Kurt, it’s a terrifying situation that disrupts the impeccably perfect life he has created for himself. He’s outraged and angry at Blaine, and yet; he can’t help but believe Blaine is innocent.
Will the truth finally come out and Blaine be exonerated? Will the FBI catch him and put him back in prison? Will he and Kurt fall in love even in the most hopeless situation? Will love truly prevail all at the end?
Based on the novel, Perfect, by Judith McNaught. This is a story about two men who are complete opposites from one another; and yet, they complete each other in a perfectly imperfect way.

Renegade verse by ali_llyon
The hardships of being in a relationship with a mob boss. Or, two people being in love while sometimes feeling they aren't worthy of it.
The title is from the song Renegade by Big Red Machine and Taylor Swift: Is it insensitive for me to say Get your shit together? So I can love you
The story is not in chronological order.

I went back to reread With Your Heart, My Soul is Bound (I accidentally started here and now I’m plowing through the entire Vermont!verse). First of all, this is so soft and heartwarming. I adore it. Eddie getting overwhelmed (in a good way!), Buckley siblings, Diaz siblings, *yells with love* THE VOWS, and picking Christopher up at the end 🥺
2nd… not to detract from anything above, but I may also be mildly amused by the use of its 99.9 percent sap as a tag for a Vermont based fic/series. Thank you all for this amazing AU 💙🦛
OH thank you so much this is so nice!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 and wow i didn’t even realize the sap pun until just now LOVE that for me 😂😂😂

safe in your hands buck x eddie, vermont verse, 1.3k hurt/comfort
It’s just luck that he looks out the window.
It’s snowing—it’s always snowing, November to May, but Eddie’s used to it by now, ten years living in Stowe have gotten him acclimated to the bitter cold, and it helps that Buck’s insulated the house well. Eddie’s office overlooks the backyard, an endless expanse of white that stretches to the tree line, dotted with boughs from the pine trees that line their property and—
Blood. Streaks of it, bright red, pooling into the snow and trailing towards the back door.
Eddie shoves his laptop back and bolts—out of the room, down the stairs, skidding around the corner to the kitchen where Buck is leaning heavily against the sink, blood dripping from his hand, face pale and breathing hard.
He grabs a clean towel from the drawer and comes up next to him, reaching for his hand, putting pressure on the jagged cut. “Hey,” he says, nudging Buck. “Tell me what happened.”
“Was tryin’ to make a new bookcase for the house up in Eden,” he says, drawing in a stuttering breath, hissing when Eddie presses down harder. “Cut myself on the bandsaw when Ox barked in his sleep, startled me.”
“Alright, we’ll get you patched up,” Eddie says. He lifts the towel and frowns as the blood wells up again.
“Knew my army medic would take care of me,” Buck says, the corners of his mouth lifting.
“I think we’re going to have to let the doctor take care of this one,” Eddie says. “Your army medic hasn’t given anyone stitches in quite a while and this looks deep. Can you keep pressure on it while I see if Hen’s around?”
“She’s working, Maddie’s getting lunch with her today,” Buck says. “Sorry, Eddie. I know your deadline is tomorrow.”
“Hey,” Eddie says, “I don’t care about the deadline, I care about getting you to a doctor. Can you keep pressure on that while I drive?”
“Sure thing, Staff Sergeant Diaz,” Buck says, and Eddie rolls his eyes. “Ox is still out in the workshop.”
He makes sure Buck is holding the towel properly and leads him to the table. “Sit here,” he says, kissing Buck’s forehead briefly, “it’ll just be a few minutes.”
The towel is stained through by the time he gets his boots on and comes back in with the dog, finds his jacket, phone, and keys to the truck. Buck doesn’t protest when Eddie wraps a new one around his hand and helps him out of the house, keeping a tight grip on Buck’s elbow as they walk down the slick path to the garage; he can see the trail of blood to his left and he makes a note to get it taken care of before Chris comes home.
“Shit,” he says, opening the truck door for Buck and helping him in, “I need to call Bobby and see if he can pick the boys up from robotics.”
“Just text Chris and tell him to catch a ride,” Buck says, shaking his head. “They’re almost eighteen, Eds, they can manage themselves. And you really should be teaching him to drive in the snow, you know.”
“I don’t see you doing it,” Eddie says, and Buck holds up his injured hand.
“I can hardly be considered responsible enough,” he says, smiling.
“You’re just upset that he got mad at you for yelling ‘brake’ three blocks away from the stop sign,” Eddie says. “Are you keeping enough pressure on that?”
The drive to Copley doesn’t take long, but Buck complains the whole way, trying to get Eddie to go to Burlington—“I’m not driving an hour when there’s a hospital fifteen minutes from here,” Eddie says, repeatedly—so he can see Maddie.
“We both know you just want to stop into the nursery and see Joy,” Eddie says, parking at the emergency room door. “I’ll drive us to Maddie and Chim’s tonight if you would please just stop complaining.”
It’s a thankfully short wait in the emergency room; Eddie taps his foot the whole time, both hands wrapped around Buck’s injured one, until the nurse calls them back. She takes one look at Buck’s cut hand and bruised forearms and asks Eddie to step out while they confirm Buck’s information—“hospital procedure”—which he knows isn’t true, but Buck can have fun explaining how he’d forgotten to secure one end of a beam in the new house only to have it crash into his arms the second he stepped off the ladder. They’re back in the car an hour later, Buck’s right hand stitched and put into a splint so he can’t move and make it worse.
“You know what this means, don’t you,” Buck sighs, inspecting his hand carefully.
“That your mouth is gonna be pretty busy for the next few weeks while your hand heals?” He waits a moment, then laughs as Buck reaches over and smacks his thigh.
“Cold showers for you,” Buck threatens, but he’s grinning. “I was going to say, this means we’ll have to sweet talk Bobby into making some freezer meals for us, because there’s no way I’m letting you cook and getting food poisoning on top of this.”
“There’s always take-out,” Eddie says.
“Yeah, from Bobby’s. Easier to just beg once, we’ll send Chris over with a pitiful smile and next thing you know, we’ll be set for a few weeks.”
Eddie reaches over and picks up his hand. “I’ll get it taken care of, Buck,” he says. They fall silent and he glances over. “Hey,” he says, squeezing Buck’s hand, “what’s wrong?”
“You were so calm about it,” Buck says after a moment. “I was freaking out, I thought I was going to pass out and I didn’t want to bother you while you were working. I didn’t think it was this bad until the bleeding wouldn’t stop.”
“I knew you were fine,” he says. “Wasn’t anything to freak out about. Don’t worry about the book, it’s not that big of a deal. Maybe we should put an intercom or something in the workshop so you can call next time.”
Buck snorts. “We should train Ox to go get you,” he says. “Useless dog just laid there.”
When they get home, Eddie pushes Buck down on the couch and turns on HGTV, a guaranteed way to get him to stay still, and leaves him there while he cleans the blood up from the yard and kitchen. It doesn’t take long; he’s back by the end of the episode, holding out a pair of sweats for Buck to change into.
“Go work,” Buck says, but Eddie sits down on the other end of the couch and pulls Buck between his legs and settles him against his chest, burying his nose into the curve of Buck’s shoulder and giving him a kiss. “Eddie, you gotta send your edits in tomorrow, go.”
He makes a displeased noise and kisses Buck again. “Nope,” he says. “My husband needs me to cuddle with him.”
“You’re flattering yourself, your husband is fine.”
“Nah, he loves this,” Eddie says. “If he’s good, maybe I’ll show him what a working hand can do.”
“Setting me up for failure, I see,” Buck laughs, but he relaxes against Eddie’s chest and pulls his shirt up so that Eddie can slide his hand underneath, settling it on top of Buck’s warm skin. “Love you, Eds.”
“Love you, too.”

I've been camping in the woods for a week and don't know anything about Vermont except that it MUST involve soft flannels worn over waffle henleys that look sexy on Eddie and adorable on Christopher. Am I on the right track?
Vermont!!!!!!! The Vermont verse is an amazing soft AU by @thisissirius and @hearteyesforbuck that you can find most of here and then also in various prompt fills that I think are all tagged “vermont verse” on their respective blogs.  The basic premise is that Eddie comes home after leaving the army and writes a book as his own form of therapy which ends up really taking off and he ultimately moves to Vermont with Christopher, ends up being neighbors with Bobby and Athena, meets Buck (who is a contractor) after a home emergency (tree falling through roof), and falls in love (naturally).  It’s beautiful, I am very fragile and extremely emotional about all of it, and I highly recommend.

Do you have any fics that you've read that you come back to every once in a while because they're just so good, even though you're not necessarily in the fandom anymore? And how long has you been coming back to it/them?
Thank you! You've made me dive back into my bookmarks.
I wouldn't say I left the fandom, because I always been very casual about my fandom involvement but I tend to circle back into old interests all the time.
For Stucky I think I've read the" these streets verse" by alby_mangroves and Nejinee about 3 times since it was first posted
For Sterek I've read at least twice "Help wanted (but not really)" by reillyblack, "Three marks" by sanam, "Cornerstone" by vendelin, "kaleidoscope" by vendelin, "Fireman Derek's Crazy pie (chesseburger baby" by owlpostagain.
For Buddie, when I first dived into the fanfic world there weren't that many so I kept re-reading the same ones over and over, "i hit the accelerator but the car (was in the reverse) by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels and @extasiswings is one of them, "Leading with the left" by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels as well, "in a week" by @chiquititadiaz and I actually have it open in a tab right now because I wanna read it again, "The trees of vermont" by @elisela, spinnincircles and thisissirius as well, and @woodchoc-magnum "You can tell everybody this is your song"
And honestly many many more, that I'm sure this ig going to end up being a huge fic rec answer.
I keep coming back to because I love what a good read they are and the feelings they manage to bring.
I'm sure I would have even more, but back when I first started to use AO3 I didn't know how bookmarking was actually used, and I lost a lot of good reads.

my destiel fic recs pt.2
i have binged too many fics since my last recommendation so here’s more that i absolutely love!!
Sing a Song of Sex Puns - Persephoneshadow : That one verse where Dean and Cas are good at talking during sex but not about the fact they're having sex. as the name suggests, it’s a heckload of smut. but goddamn it’s so cute and silly and sweet!! you will be screaming at these two idiots i swear!!
Love: A Retrospective - xylodemon : Pretending Cas is just his friend has been the only thing keeping Dean's head on straight for years. He never realized how much doing that depended on him making himself scarce in the morning ─ not until Cas came back and moved into the bunker. basically a run through dean and cas’ relationship throughout the series but better. oh so beautifully written and painfully romantic and sad
before knowing remembers - dothraki_shieldmaiden :  Memory believes before knowing remembers. There's something that Dean's missing. He's almost sure of it.15.04 coda. holy shit, HOLY SHIT!! this fic is so good and beautifully written and intricate and gahhhh it’s just so damn good
As Only Saints Have Listened - clockworkrobots : “I love you,” he'd said. (12.12 coda). you want pain? you want hurt? well here you have it. again, just absolute stunning writing, i have no words
IPAMIS OL OLPRIT -emmbrancsxxo : The Winchesters, Castiel, and Jack discover the Men of Letters hid away a weapon that may be able to kill Michael. The only problem: it can only be used with John Winchester's blood. When Rowena performs a spell to temporarily bring John back, Dean runs into another problem. His father doesn't approve of his angel, and Castiel isn't too impressed with John either. no no you don’t understand - i reread this the other day and fuck, i forgot how good it is!! prepare to scream in frustration and just generally love this!!
Professional Couples Only - saltyfeathers : There's a haunted apartment building in Vermont, and the ad says "Professional couple only". Dean and Cas rise to the occasion. y’all,,,, Y’ALL!!! the frickin fic will be the death of me holy shit!! it’s just!! it’s!!! idiot cas and dean and it’s pure goodness!!!
for a sinner released - dothraki_shieldmaiden : Testing his theory, he runs his fingers over the soft skin of Dean’s wrist, until his thumb is pressed firmly against Dean’s hammering pulse. Cas pulls, gently but inexorably, until Dean is forced to take a step forward. The shift in positioning pushes the barrel of the gun into his forehead. Cold metal touches overheated skin, and Cas inhales sharply at the contrasting sensations. The gun is unforgiving, relentless, beautiful. It’s like Dean. oh oh oh y’all are gonna like this one. i’m not big on endverse fics but holy shit, this one is amazing. mean in places but still sweet!
protect and serve - dothraki_shieldmaiden : Police officer Dean Winchester's next assignment seems easy enough: a protection detail on Assistant District Attorney Castiel Novak, who's been receiving death threats in conjunction with the case that he's prosecuting. Dean's assignment is to keep ADA Novak safe, alive, and in one piece so that he can start his trial against Dick Roman, notorious CEO charged with the death of at least eight people. With threats that quickly spin out of control, a missing teenage genius, Dean's attraction to Novak, and Novak's mercurial attitude towards Dean--Dean Winchester's next assignment is anything but easy. who doesn’t love a good police/protector au?? ughhh i love this one so goddamn much!! the characters!! the plot!! the tension!!!
the taste of gravel in the mouth - deathbanjo : This is what Cas gave up Heaven for: greasy diner food, shitty motel rooms with even shittier cable, long car rides spent in complete silence except for the same six tapes playing over and over again, and a burnt-out husk of a man who can barely hold a conversation anymore. this. this hurts. it’s beautiful and stunning and all around amazing. but it hurts.
and all this devotion - dothraki_shieldmaiden : Dean’s not stupid. He’s seen the looks Cas has aimed his way, when Cas thought he wasn’t paying attention. He’s leveled his share of looks back at Cas when the angel’s attention was elsewhere. More than once, he’s been caught in the act. At this point, they’re both dancing around the same elephant, too scared and caught in their ways to make the first move.OR: Dean gets hurt on a hunt. Cas takes care of him. There's only one bed. Confessions ensue. so so so cute!!!! holy shit i love this one so goddamn much!! touch-starved idiots and sweetness
too much - quiettewandering : “There’s too much of your mother in you,” John used to say. Too much empathy. Too much love. It’s what got her killed, after all. hurt hurt hurt! honestly, FUCK john winchester! but seriously, this fic is so good and the characterisation of dean and his self-worth issues is so beautifully written and tragic
i could probably continue for days about these fics and various other ones but i shall save that for another post! if y’all want more, i have plenty to recommend and that everyone should read because they’re just so good!! enjoy and please binge all the fanfics you can!! Xx

WE FUCKING MADE IT Y’ALL
this essay, “Of Spinoffs and Spinning Off” by Louisa Stein, is a published academic work that mentions cambionverse by name as part of a 700-page book about fandom studies!? HOLY SHIT??!? this was published in 2018 but it took the sheer chaotic SPN-returns energy of 2020 for us to stumble across it. astounding. love this for us
(quick aside to caveat that of course we were not the inventors of the Team Free Will 2.0 concept, it was already well-established before our first fic posted in 2011, and “Cambionverse” as a name is pretty specific to our fic series and not something people use for all fandom content that happens to feature Ben/Jesse/Claire. BUT STILL, shoutout to literally anyone who has made fanwork of our verse over the past ten years because YOU’RE FAMOUS NOW TOO)
(second aside to say “it is also entirely possible that the creators of the eventual canon version of Claire drew inspiration from the prior fan authored versions of teenage Claire.” U DON’T SAY)
Tumblr media
Text from the screencaps below:
“To my mind, there is no better example to demonstrate the politics of the “official” spinoff in conversation with energies and labors of fan spinning off than the longrunning fanbeloved TV series Supernatural, and so for the rest of this chapter I will use Supernatural as my case study. I do not mean to suggest that the spinning off that occurs by the hands of Supernatural fans is necessarily different in quality or significance than that of other series, fans, and fandoms, past and present. Rather I turn to Supernatural because its now 12year run offers a wealth of snapshots of different modes of industrial and fan spinning off, and the relationships and tensions between the two.
[...]
Spinning Off to a Better Text: The Cambionverse
Also in Textual Poachers, Henry Jenkins talked about how fan authorship (often) emerged from dissatisfaction as much as from enthusiasm on the part of fans. Elsewhere I have argued that fan works can be seen as critique as well as supplement in that they point to holes, to misrepresentations, to gaps, to things left wanting (Stein forthcoming). Some fan spinoff verses—like the Endverse—seem to cumulatively build on the source text, giving us more of what the text offered, and thus do not seem to be oppositional to the source text. But even such works that follow clear markers in the source text can be read as critique. Fan authorship of “Down to Agincourt” and other Endverse works function as critique as they voice fan desires for different narratives and themes, along the lines of: “We want more Endverse; We want darker tales that blur morality further; we want a darker version of Dean, a continued depiction of Sam and Lucifer, a more extended stay with drug and sex fixated Castiel.”
At the same time, spinoff verses can find their origin in critique driven by fan desire to fix some of the consistent perceived failings of the source text. For Supernatural, this means that fans envision and author spinoffs that feature female characters, people of color, and queer characters (and characters who merge these identity markers) who don’t get killed. For example, in between season eight and nine, fans envisioned a version of Supernatural that centered on powerful female “big bad” Abaddon, rather than relegating her to marginal, doomed, and finally unimportant figure. At around the same time, fans authored the first stories in what they termed Cambionverse, also referred to as “Team Free Will 2.0.” The Cambionverse envisioned the next generation of hunters, comprised of characters who had (then) only been featured in single episodes. One of these characters at the center of this fan envisioned spinoff was Claire Novak, daughter of Jimmy Novak, whose body the angel Castiel possessed. Like the Endverse, Claire Novak had offered story and character potential that the Supernatural series seemed to overlook but that resonated with fans. Thus, as fans continued to write stories featuring Claire together with other oneoff characters Jesse Turner and Ben Braeden, these stories to a certain degree served as critique of Supernatural’s poor story choices and flawed ideologies of representation.
Fans spin critique into new work with all the transmedia tools and then some that they deploy for the televisual source. Cambionverse creators create fic, GIF sets, vids, art, meta, and fanmixes (musical playlists created and shared on interfaces like 8Tracks and Tumblr, http://8tracks.com/explore/cambionverse/popular/1). This active transmedia spread positions Cambionverse as an expansive multimedia universe in its own right with the fic at the center, but as was the case with “Down to Agincourt,” there is arguably more collaborative feedback with less purposefully clear policing of the lines drawn between “official” and “unofficial” authorship. The Cambionverse spreads across multiple platforms deployed by fans, including An Archive of Our Own, Tumblr, and 8Tracks, spun by multiple authors in multiple forms. Thus, the Cambionverse demonstrates how transmedia authorship and the multiplicitous transmedia landscape further destabilize traditional notions of authorial control.
[...]
Fan literacies extend beyond close textual analysis of the series to knowledge about the politics and potential of Supernatural’s future production, to a larger production literacy regarding the creation of spinoffs, as we have seen in fan coordination and campaigns for the Supernatural spinoff Wayward Daughters. Arguably, the concept for Wayward Daughters emerged from the same fan impulse that birthed the Cambionverse: the desire to tell the stories of characters with strong potential who were underused or introduced in an episode, and who were left underdeveloped yet with strong narrative potential. In response to these rich narrative gaps, fans told Claire Novak’s story through to her teenage years. They wrote various versions of Claire’s narrative in the years between her character’s first (one episode long) introduction in Supernatural’s fourth season and her eventual return six years later in the series’ tenth season. By the time the official Supernatural writers cast Claire as a teenager and brought her to the screen, fandom had already fleshed out her character and narrative. Supernatural actor Kathryn Newton came to fill a character already fleshed out in the fan imagination, in GIF sets, vids, featuring actors from other media fancast to serve the character of Claire, and drawn and painted by fan imagination in lines inspired by these fan castings and by individual interpretation. Both fans and the Supernatural producers were working with the same source and question: what would Claire Novak as we saw her in season four be like as a teenager, given her physical qualities and personal trajectory? Thus, perhaps it is not surprising that the teenage Claire Novak of eventual Supernatural “canon” looked quite a bit like the fan imagined Claire, blonde but sullen, a rebellious teenager with an angelic chip on her shoulder (and in the world of Supernatural, the descriptor angelic is not a compliment ...). Of course, given the visibility of fan work and the knowledge of fandom displayed by Supernatural producers, it is also entirely possible that the creators of the eventual “canon” version of Claire drew inspiration from the prior fan authored versions of teenage Claire.”

Her work on gender and generation in media culture and transmedia authorship has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. She is a book review editor for Cinema Journal and the Journal of Transformative Works and Cultures. She is coeditor of the collections Teen Television (McFarland, 2008) and Sherlock and Transmedia Fandom (McFarland, 2012). wip game: grab ?
some Vermont????
“I didn’t want to—” Eddie cuts himself off, frustrated. He grabs a cloth from the sink and takes Buck’s arm, movements gentle as he cleans off the dirt. Buck’s watching him, expression clouded, and Eddie rubs a thumb over Buck’s wrist. “You were so hung up on the money, I didn’t want you to think—-I’m getting a lot of money for the movie and I’m not ungrateful, but I——”
so many Vermont fics to finish 😭

hey mads, what buddie fics (apart from your own) would you recommend?? i wanna mark some for later on my ao3. all ratings are fine
Bold of you to assume I would recommend my own fics, nonny. XD
Okay in all seriousness, literally anything by @extasiswings. Her fantastic playground love series is a great twist on the lawsuit arc and what comes after, she co-wrote I Hit the Accelerator (But the Car was in Reverse) with me, and she’s currently got two WIPs that are amazing and I’m drooling with excitement for more. She also just wrote a cat dad Eddie fic after getting us all aboard that train so you can blame her for me putting a cat named Princess in every single Buddie fic from now on.
Next we have @kingbuckley, also known as mediwitch3 on Ao3. Oh boy oh boy oh boy I hope you like werewolf fics. Oh wait never mind even if you don’t, you will like this one. I hunt for you with bloody feet is THE BEST WEREWOLF AU, NO I WILL NOT HEAR ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY. Her current WIP is a Pirate AU that’s killing me softly but she’s got a lot of other great fics that you can check out, her Rival Frats AU is fucking hilarious and the end is hhhnnngghh.
I would of course be highly remiss not to mention @theleftboobgrabber who just fucking clocked me in the back of the head with a Pacific Rim AU and I think I owe her my life now, do go check it out, it’s got three out of four chapters written and if we don’t get the fourth chapter soon I might have to manifest in her house and beg for mercy in person.
And then we have @hearteyesforbuck aka Eli, WHOSE AO3 NAME I AM FORGETTING, ELI COME HERE AND TELL ME YOUR AO3 NAME, she’s the co-author of the Vermont Verse with the lovely @thisissirius, and is also writing another WIP where Buck has a YouTube channel reading bedtime stories for kids and it’s so fucking sweet I think I got a cavity (I definitely cried, like, it was bad, guys, it was straight-up ugly crying).
Anyway that should be a good ‘starter kit’ for you! I hope you enjoy their stories nonny and don’t forget to comment on their fics! Have a lovely day and stay safe darling.

with your heart, my soul is bound
for @hearteyesforbuck <3
part of the vermont series
read on ao3
When they told Maddie they had decided to get married in a month, Eddie was pretty sure she was going to pick both of them up and throw them out the window.
“You’re telling me,” she said with an eerie calm that made the hair on the back of Eddie’s arms stand up, “that I only have 31 days to plan a wedding from scratch in a town I barely know, all because you guys are too impatient to wait at least a year like normal people?”
“It’s actually more like 27 days—” Eddie squawked as Buck elbowed him in the ribs. He turned back to his sister, doing his best to replicate the puppy dog eyes and pout that Chris always used to try and stay up past his bedtime.
“Look, Mads…it’s just too far away.” Buck said, threading his arm through Eddie’s, squeezing his bicep. “We could go to the courthouse and get it over with, but we want to do it right. We want to do it now.” Maddie just looked at them, eyes skeptical and contemplative. “I mean, if you don’t think you’re up for it, we can always hire a wedding planner…”
“No, no way. I can do it. I’m doing it.”
Buck grinned, turning to Eddie and shooting him a wink. Eddie laughed and rolled his eyes, planting a kiss on Buck’s shoulder.
“You’re the best Mads, seriously. We owe you big.”
“I am the best, and you absolutely do, and I will absolutely be holding this over your head until the end of time.” She sat up straighter, picking up her laptop from the nearby coffee table and firing it up.
“First things first, what poor sucker am I going to have to yell at to get a venue booked on such short notice….”
~~~~~~~~~~
Eddie’s not sure if there’s a higher power at work, but if there is, they really wanted this wedding to happen. Maybe they had taken pity on them, saw both of them work and fight so hard for their own lives that when they finally found each other, found the grace and joy in each other that they hadn’t been able to give themselves, the universe said alright, you guys deserve a break. We’ll go easier on you now.
When they couldn’t find a space no matter how loud Maddie yelled, Karen had an opening at the inn in their biggest room, the perfect size for all their guests. When their first caterer fell through, Bobby stepped up immediately, offering food and desserts and a cake free of charge as a wedding gift. When none of the rental places had a dance floor big enough for what they wanted, Buck insisted on building one from scratch, and had just enough time to finish it.
When Eddie’s parents weren’t going to make it, some excuse about airline prices and not enough time to prepare, Sophia volunteered herself to walk Eddie down the aisle before he could even be too hurt about it.
A month later (27 days, Eddie, that’s not a month, those four days matter), he’s standing in awe in the middle of the room where he’s going to marry the love of his life in about 20 minutes. Buck always talked about how he was sure his sister had a little bit of magic in her, but she must have summoned a whole lot more for this because she’s worked a miracle. Forest green carpet covers the center aisle, leading to a hand carved archway Chim surprised them with at the rehearsal the night before. The arch is covered in roses and chrysanthemums in burgundy and wrapped with vines of ivy. Fairy lights hang all across the ceiling, making Eddie feel like he’s in a completely different galaxy, starlight following him wherever he goes. He feels his eyes water as he takes it all in, because even in his wildest fantasies, he never imagined everything coming together this perfectly.
“Don’t cry now, you haven’t even seen Buck yet.” Maddie’s walking up the aisle, clipboard in hand, a vision in her silver dress. It might just be the lights, but she looks a little misty too.
“Maddie, I really don’t know how we can ever thank you for all of this,” Eddie says as he looks around again. She stops in front of him, places a hand on his shoulder, silent until he looks at her dead on. She’s got that familiar sparkle in her eyes that must be a Buckley trait.
“You already have. You love my brother like he deserves to be loved, with your entire heart and soul. I can never thank you for that, but maybe we can call it even now.” She pulls him into a tight hug, kissing his cheek before letting go. “Alright, back to your room, the guests will be getting here any minute.”
He gives her a mock salute as he leaves, jogging back to the room down the hall where he and his sisters have set up camp. When he left, the kids were loud as always, fighting Sophia as she tried to get them dressed. She won, thankfully, and they’re quiet now, watching Chris play a game on his Switch. Sophia is in one of the lounge chairs, head back, eyes closed, a beer held loosely in her hands.
Eddie almost feels bad disturbing her peace when he flicks her forehead.
“You better not be drunk before my wedding,” he says as he sits in the chair next to her.
She cracks an eye open, giving him a deeply unimpressed look. “Please, one beer isn’t gonna do me in, I’m not mom.” Eddie’s stomach goes a little funny at the mention of their mother, hands unconsciously clenching into fists. Sophia sets her beer down and reaches over, rubbing his hands in hers until they relax. “You know you would have been ten times more stressed if they were here. Dad would have already found 15 things wrong with the inn, and Mom would be fighting with Maddie about the decorations.”
“I know,” Eddie sighs. “You’re right, but still, it’s so…”
“Shitty? That they refused to come to their only son’s wedding? Yeah, it is.”
“Buck’s parents aren’t coming either, they didn’t even respond to the invite. This just feels like something they all should be able to give up their pride for, you know? For family’s sake.”
“But they aren’t your family, Eddie, not really. Your family is here today, everyone who loves the both of you and wants to celebrate your love. Those are the people that matter.”
Eddie nods, squeezing Sophia’s hands. “It’s really annoying how you’re right about everything.”
She nods sagely. “It’s the cross I bear as the oldest sibling.”
They settle into comfortable silence, hands still clasped, the drone of arriving guests floating in from the main room. Despite the short notice, they’re expecting almost 100 people across family, friends, co-workers, and Army buddies. As the voices continue, Eddie’s leg starts bouncing, and he can’t stop playing with his cufflinks.
“Nervous?” Sophia asks.
Eddie shakes his head. “Not at all. I’m just— I really can’t wait to marry him.”
Sophia squeezes his hand this time, her smile soft. “I’m so happy for you, Eddie. Not just that you found Buck, either, but for everything you’ve done since you sold your book. I only ever wanted you to have the good life you deserved, and I’m so glad you have that here.”
“You’re the one who started it all,” Eddie says. “None of this would have happened if you weren’t such a snoop.”
“That’s true,” she says, laughing. “But you did all the real work. You invested in yourself and you made it happen. I just lit the match under your ass, you built the bonfire.”
Eddie’s throat feels too tight to speak, so he kisses the back of her hand instead. There’s a knock at the door before Maddie comes in, clipboard replaced with a bouquet.
“Everyone’s seated, it’s showtime.”
Sophia claps as she stands up, herding the kids, straightening ties and flattening flyways as she sends them off with Maddie. Eddie offers her his arm as she grabs her own bouquet and meets him with a blinding smile.
“Alright, Bromundo, let’s get you hitched!”
Eddie’s too excited to even fight the nickname, matching his sister’s smile as they walk out the door.
~~~~~~~~~~
The music begins and the guests stand, facing the back entrance of the hall. The twins come down the aisle first, Alexa tossing fistfuls of rose petals in front of them every few steps. Chris goes next, beaming at everyone as he goes, getting a high five from Adriana and a kiss from Abuela before taking his place at the altar.
Eddie offers Sophia his arm, and they nod to each other as they head out. When he steps into the hall again, he’s hit with the same wonder he felt the first time, even more so seeing everyone filling seats, full of joy and tears and love for him. For them. His smile is the most genuine it’s ever been, and he doesn’t even care that his cheeks already hurt. The butterflies in his stomach fly faster the closer he gets to the altar, the anticipation making his skin buzz in a wonderful way. They stop in front of the archway, and Sophia pulls him into an iron gripped hug, her arms so tight he’s worried she might leave bruises.
“You deserve this, Eddie. Every bit of it,” she whispers as she pulls away, taking her seat next to Adriana. They each blow him a kiss as he settles at the altar, Chris flashing a thumbs up from his side. Eddie looks towards the back of the aisle and feels his breath stop completely, the rest of the world melting to nothing around him. He’s glad they decided to let him walk down first because he’s not sure he’d be able to take one step with his knees feeling this weak.
Buck looks nothing less than ethereal, like the gods sent him straight down from the skies so the world could finally see what real, unfiltered beauty looks like. His burgundy suit hugs every glorious inch of him, makes his birthmark into even more of the angel’s kiss Eddie knows it is. His hair is styled but soft enough that the curls are still loose, glowing under the lights like a halo. It’s not long before Eddie’s vision blurs with tears, the happiest tears he’s ever felt, because despite the perfect packaging he’s in today, Eddie knows the man underneath, knows his passion and his mind and his gentleness, and that is the man he can’t wait to spend forever with.
He makes his way down the aisle with Maddie, his smile growing the closer he gets to Eddie. He kisses Maddie’s cheek as she drops his arm, and then he’s there, right in front of him, looking even more beautiful up close. He’s not a dream, not a trick of the light, not a cruel hallucination Eddie’s brain has cooked up. He’s real and looking at Eddie like he’s the only person in the world worth looking at.
“Hi,” Buck whispers as he takes Eddie’s hands in his calloused ones, threading their fingers together.
“Hi,” Eddie responds wetly, feeling more grounded just being in Buck’s presence than he has all day.
He doesn’t hear much past “dearly beloved”, too focused on committing every detail of Buck — the feel of his hands, the lights reflecting in his eyes, the flush of his cheeks, his smile, everything — to memory. They’re both broken from their haze as the officiant clears his throat, looking at them expectantly.
“Sorry, what?” Buck asks.
“I said, I believe the grooms have written their own vows?” They nod as the audience laughs behind them. “Eddie, whenever you’re ready.”
Eddie takes a deep breath, his knees somehow going weaker. It had been easy writing his vows — the hardest part was keeping them short, since he could easily fill up volume after volume with how he feels about Buck. But he wanted them to be special, wanted to look at his almost husband the entire time he spoke so he could see in his eyes how true his words were. So he left the paper in his pocket and memorized his words instead, went over and over them with Chris until he had them down perfectly. He was worried he’d lose everything as soon as he looked at Buck, but if anything, it cemented the words in his mind even more, branding them across his heart, completely making Buck a part of his very being.
“Evan,” he starts, sees Buck’s smile wobble, feels his hands grasp tighter. “A long time ago, I accepted that I wasn’t meant for love. That there was no one who would see my scars and love me because of them, because of the man they made me into, not in spite of them. And I was happy, for the most part. Happy to focus all my energy on Chris and raising him, making sure he knew he was loved and that he mattered. It was easy to ignore, to forget wanting to be found like that.”
“But then I moved to Vermont, and a tree fell into my son’s room. You showed up to fix it, and everything changed.” He reaches a hand up to Buck’s cheek, wiping away the tears tracing paths down his face. “You fixed everything in our house, but you didn’t try and fix me. You saw the cracks and scuffs and pieces hanging by threads, and you still thought I was beautiful. You’ve witnessed the best and ugliest sides of me, and you’ve never made me feel the need to compensate for not being perfect. You see me, all of me. And for the rest of my life, I will do my best to make sure you know I see you too. To make sure you know, always, that Chris and I love you to the ends of the earth. That even if your own cracks get deeper and your scuffs get worse, I will always see you for the amazing man that you’ve become. Thank you for loving me, and for letting me love you. Thank you for not fixing me. Thank you for finding me.”
Buck sneaks a look at the officiant before leaning forward and placing a quick kiss on Eddie’s cheek. There’s laughs again, in between sniffles and rustling tissues. He sees Buck take his own breath, meeting Eddie’s eyes again, and Eddie can’t help the laugh that bubbles out of him, his own happiness apparently too much for his body to keep inside.
“I’m clearly not the writer in this relationship,” he says, with more laughter from the audience. “I’m not always the best with my words, but I am a man of action, and I always keep my promises. So I promise you, Edmundo Diaz, to always have your back. I promise to love you every day, and even more on the days that you don’t think you deserve to be loved. I promise to catch you when you fall and to always fight for you, even if you are the person I have to fight. You talk about how I found you, but baby, we found each other. And I have no intention of ever letting you go.”
He takes a step past Eddie then, taking a knee in front of Chris and taking both of his small hands. “And you, Christopher,” he says. “I promise you that I will always keep you safe and do whatever I can to make sure you’re happy. I promise to help you be the best person you can be, and to support you no matter what. And I promise to always order extra olives on our pizza for you, even though I know your dad hates them.” Eddie snorts, and Chris’s laughter is loud and bright as he throws his arms around Buck’s neck, crutches clattering to the floor.
“I love you Buck.”
“I love you too buddy,” Buck whispers, kissing the side of Chris’s head. He straightens up, hands Chris his crutches before taking his place in front of Eddie again. It takes every ounce of strength he has to not kiss Buck right then, instead mouthing “I love you” because it’s the only thing that won’t get him yelled at by the officiant or Abuela.
They exchange rings, promising love and honor, to cherish each other until death do they part. Eddie’s hands are steady as he slides Buck’s ring on, because there’s nothing for him to be nervous about now. This is the one thing in his life he’s most certain about, most secure in, even more so than being a father sometimes. His love for Buck is unwavering, built of the strongest stuff in the universe. There’s no room for doubts to creep in.
The officiant wraps up, has barely pronounced them husbands when Eddie wraps his arms around Buck’s waist, pulling him in and kissing him like he’s been wanting to since he walked down the aisle. It’s deep and all-consuming and perfect, and Eddie feels absolutely electric. He kisses him again, and again, and one more time just because, before turning to scoop Chris up in his arms. He holds him on one hip, his other hand in Buck’s, and the three of them make their way back down the aisle through their clapping, cheering family.
~~~~~~~~~~
Cocktail hour passes in a blur as they mingle with guests on the back deck of the inn. They’re surrounded by the oranges and yellows of the autumn forest, and everything feels cozy and warm, full to bursting with happiness. The room is transformed for the reception, tables draped in burgundy and forest green, candles burning in their silver centerpieces, adding to the glow of the fairy lights. Dinner is lively, but everything is background noise to Eddie. He’s too wrapped up in Buck, in the feel of his arm around his shoulder, in watching him laugh, listening to him commentate on their family interacting and laughing along with him. Every so often he’s slapped by the reminder that this is it, that he and Buck are he and Buck forever, and he’s sure this unbridled joy that he feels will never fully wear off.
Maddie makes a speech, full of heartfelt wishes for their future together. Sophia makes one too, more focused on roasting her brother to oblivion, but with all the love in the world. When she’s done, she hands the microphone to Chris, who stands and faces the crowd.
“Hi, I’m Christopher, and those are my dads.” He points to Buck and Eddie at their table, and Eddie feels Buck’s breath hitch. It’s not the first time Chris has called them “his dads”, but it seems to catch Buck by surprise every time. Eddie smiles, kisses his cheek, and places a comforting hand on his thigh.
“I just want to say that I’m really glad Buck is officially part of our family now. Dad always tells me to find the things that make me happy, and I know Buck makes him very happy, and he makes me very happy too. I love you guys! Thank you!” Buck is up in an instant, quickly striding towards Chris to wrap him up and swing him around in a hug. Eddie is quickly behind him, arms coming around them both.
As they set Chris down, the DJ announces that it’s time for the first dance. Buck offers his hand, leading Eddie out to the middle of the homemade dance floor, and Eddie once again feels like they’ve been transported to their own universe, just the two of them among the stars. As they sway, chests pressed together, eyes never leaving the other’s for long, Eddie takes in the lyrics of the song:
Life is ever changing but I will always
Find a constant and comfort in your love
With your heart my soul is bound
And as we dance I know that heaven can be found
And that’s what they are together: constant, comfortable, a home that they’ve both been searching for for longer than they can remember. Things won’t always be easy, since life never is, but they know that they’ll always be able to fall back on each other. No mistakes, no slip ups, no amount of darkness will be able to crack the steel-enforced foundation of their love. They’re in this together, tied together for life, and while that could be scary for some, it’s exhilarating for Eddie. He is finally, finally, in a love that consumes him. And he finally believes he’s worthy of it.
“What’s on your mind?” Buck asks, a curious smile on his face as they keep dancing.
“You,” Eddie responds, kissing Buck’s jaw as his blush grows. “Us. How much I love you. How excited I am for our future.”
Buck smiles, rivaling the sun, and rests their foreheads together. Eddie could stay in this starlight filled bubble of theirs forever.
“This is just the beginning, baby,” Buck says. “Us and Chris against the world. And it’s only gonna keep getting better from here.”
Buck’s crouched in front of Chris, explaining that he can pick him up something at Bobby’s, and Eddie can see on Chris’ face that he’s gearing up for an argument. “Actually,” Eddie says, taking the opportunity to rest his hand on Buck’s shoulder—to let him know he’s there, he tells himself—“lunch together sounds good—uh, all of us, if that’s okay. Note
what is your favorite 911 fic?
This might make me sound like an ass, but really I’m just very particular and a big believer in “make the content you want to see in the world yourself because no one else is going to” so several of my own fics, especially sit down young stranger and some other gen pieces that aren’t necessarily shippy but are for Eddie character exploration work.
But ALSO:
Drowning in Dreams (You’re my Raft) by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels
the sun rose in your eyes by @elisela (Vermont ‘verse)
maybe one day i’ll fly next to you by @tylerhunklin (aka the best figure skating AU of all time)
