Durin’s day.

It was here, your first celebration of Durin’s Day! Like, ever. In reclaimed Erebor, where you were now living, with the dwarves.

It was a year ago, when Thorin killed Azog, but it seemed to be much longer time ago. Ever since then, you were rebuilding Erebor and Dale and it was all almost done, so Thorin and Bard decided to celebrate this day.

Many older dwarves said the town looked similarly to the state before Smaug, but you were sure it was even better than before.

And not just because of your two partners in crime, Fili and Kili, who could make everything instantly better, though many would say you three were acting like a children.

Autumn have always started early and didn’t lasted too long, especially in the Blue Mountains. So, especially two certain dwarflings, took every opportunity to get outside and play in piles of colorful leaves.

Fili stirred from a deep slumber into morning dawn. It was still a slightly dark, but he could recognize the outlines of furniture and of his younger brother in their shared room. His golden hair were messy, but that was not one of his main worries in the moment. He quietly got up and tip-toed to his brother’s bed.

Kili was still asleep, brows furrowed, as if he was dreaming of doing Thorin’s glare, but truth to be told, he always looked like angry and grumpy puppy when he was doing that. Or trying to do it. Fili was always teasing him with it, and Kili did his pouting face. But he never stayed mad for too long, because Fili was his big brother and best friend.

Fili sat to the edge of Kili’s bed and shook his shoulder. He whispered to his ear by low voice.

„Wake up, Kee.“ Kili murmed something in his sleep and turned to his other side. A shade of little frown went over Fili’s face. But he didn’t gave up that easily.

„But Amad, Uncle Thorin promised to tell us a story!“ Fili exclaimed. Kili was close behind.

„Yeah, where’s Unca‘ Thorin?“ He curiously looked around, as if he would be hiding somewhere. You rolled your eyes.

„Kili, Uncle is outside. You’ve seen him to go there before.“ Kili’s eyebrows furrowed.

Fíli x fem!reader

Requested: Yes, by me 😂, based on this post

Warnings: Jealous and worried Fili, cheeky Kíli, awkward Thorin and angst if you squint

A/N: It’s finally here! A whopping 7k (when I made the outline of the story I thought about 1.5k, 2k tops but then I added a subplot and I kept going and going…)
I wrote this as a treat for myself because selflove is very important and I have no shame.
Special thanks to @katethewriter for her advice, grammar check and helping me calm down when I thought this was rubbish!

A/N2: Another reminder that English isn’t my native language, so I’m sorry if it’s not as poetic as it should be. That’s the fault of my lack of decent English vocabulary.

Every quest comes with the possibility of danger, injury or even death.

It was drilled into you by your parents, but that didn’t stop you from joining your two friends Fíli and Kíli on their quest to reclaim their home. It wasn’t like you had anything else to do and besides, you never went on an adventure before. How could you say no to such an opportunity?
Not even the prospect of traveling with 13 male dwarves could stop you. You liked them, they liked you. This would be like one giant sleepover!

There was some small protest from your future companions, mainly Thorin and Dwalin, who didn’t want to take you with them. A tiny woman like yourself on this dangerous quest? You would only slow them down. That’s what they said to you, but the main reason was they only wanted to protect you; keep you safe from all the dangers of the quest.
After you asked them again and again - maybe even begged, but you’d never admit it to anyone - and you promised them you could take care of yourself and they needed your skills, and after both Fíli and Kíli had promised to keep an eye on you and keep you safe, Thorin reluctantly agreed.

The journey had only been going on for a few weeks, when the two brothers broke their promise.
It was the umpteenth day of constant hiking, climbing and trudging through mud, water and dirt. Gandalf had left the company, and it had affected everyone’s mood for the worst.
You kept yourself at the back of the group the entire day, feet and legs sore from the constant walking, but unwilling to say something about it. You had promised you wouldn’t be a burden, so you weren’t going to be one.

He hadn’t excepted to be so taken by you, but when he heard you speak it caused his heart to skip.

He couldn’t help but watch you leave from his cell. Dangerous yet graceful, strong spoken but quiet.

And the moment you turned to look his way, more likely to make sure the cell door was closed, he realized he had been staring and quickly looked away.

But you saw and couldn’t help but smile.

Cause he too could’ve feel for an elf too 🥰

A/N: Happy Fíli Friday! This is the first of some “Dictionary Drabbles” I have worked on recently. I’m hoping to be more participatory in Fíli Fridays, no matter how small, so I’ve been choosing random words from the dictionary and writing what comes to mind. It’s been fun! Hope you guys enjoy.

Pairing: Fíli x Gender Neutral Reader

Word Count: 506

Warnings: cooking, heated makeout sesh because who wouldn’t want that with Fíli?

Summary: You insist on helping Fíli clean up the kitchen.

Fíli was still in the kitchen. He stood before the sink, hair and hands glistening in the light of the late afternoon sun that snuck past the trees and in through the window.

The girl from another world (part. 2)

Summary: the company and you try and figure out why you are there

Pairing: none really a bit of platonic!Bilbo x reader, some Kili x reader, and some Fili x reader I guess and obviously the company x reader

Warnings: nothing really

A/n: hi!! Thank you so much for all the love for the first chapter!! Got lots of requests to continue and if you want another part just let me know!! This is a bit messy and really short but hopefully you all enjoy!!❤︎

“Do you think she’s dead?”

“No you idiot she’s breathing”

“Yeah well-……..shut up!”

“Will you two lads pipe down for a moment“

You flutter your eyes open and see all the men standing around you and the one know as Bilbo was kneeling next to you. The company was all fighting with each other except Gandalf, who was standing off to the side a bit, smoking his pipe looking at the group amused, and Bilbo who looked not so amused. He even looked a bit annoyed with them. Bilbo shook his head and picked back up a cloth and was going to dab it on your head but then noticed you were awake. “Oh! Miss (y/n) you’re awake!” The rest of the company stopped their ruckus and turned their attention back to you. “Are you feeling okay?” Bilbo questioned. You just nodded and went to sit up but felt a rush of pain in your head. You let out a slight whimper mixed with a groan. “Woah there lassie,” bofur said “you might want to rest ya head for a bit before getting up. That was a nasty wipe out.” You fall back to the ground and let Bilbo fuss over you as he takes care of your head. “And in the mean while you can tell us what just happened” Thorin spoke and you turned your head to see he was beside dwalin. What do they expectedly to say? I mean you were just as confused as them. If anything they should be telling you what happened. “I honestly don’t know what is going on anymore,” You sigh and bring your hands up to rub your eyes. The events of the day taking a toll on you. Then Gandalf walked up to the group and put his pipe away as he did so. “Well I think I can provide some helpful information on that subject” he smiled down at you before looking back to the group. “A good few decades ago a….friend….of mine told me a prophecy of a young woman,” then he gestured to you “from another world would be joining some sort of quest with me and a few others. Of course I had no idea what or who they were talking about at the time, nor did I know when.” The company got real quiet for a moment. You were so tired and did not understand half of what he had just said so you just asked the main question on your mind“hold on. Another world? So you are telling me that I managed to accidentally fall into a different dimension or reality or something and I’m suppose to go on a quest now?” You question the wizard. “And you remembered all that…just now?” Added Thorin. But Gandalf was already taking out his pipe again, seeming growing bored now of the topic, or he simply didn’t want to deal with it right now. “Oh. Yes. You see I have lived a very long life and things just happen to slip ones mind after a while.” And with that Gandalf smiled and sat back down on the ground. The company and you looked at him for a moment trying to process all that information. I mean it’s not everyday someone from a different world just so happens to fall into ones arms…literally. “Well,” started Balin “I think it’s been a long day for all of us and it’s high time we all rest for the night.” With that a few grunts and “ayes” followed. “What about miss (y/n)? Where will she sleep?” Ori spoke up, peaking out behind Nori and Dori. You turned towards said dwarf and found it sweet he was worried about you. Kili spoke up “Miss (y/n) can share a sleeping space with me” he flirted and you turn your head towards him. He was kneeling next to you and was sporting a mischievous smirk. You opened your mouth a bit and you’re face gave a deep blush. Kili smiled even more but it got wiped off his face when dwalin came up and gave him a hit on the head. “Kili” he growled. Then Fili bent down on the other side of you and said, “yeah Kili and besides she would much rather be with a dwarf that can actually protect her…like me.”Fili puffed out his chest a bit. Your face was now so warm as the blush on your face just kept growing. Now it was Balin who came up and hit Fili on the head. “That’s enough lads. The lass can use the extra sleeping roll and you two can go gather more fire wood.” Fili and Kili gave a small pout then set of in the woods.

“Here ya go lass,”Bofur bent down and handed you the extra bed roll. As you took it you looked at him and let out a soft thank you. He gave you a wink and stood back up. The dwarves dispersed of to do their own thing but Bilbo stayed behind for a moment.

“Is there anything you need?” He asked. His heart went out to you. A girl in a strange world with nothing but a riddle telling wizard to rely on for information. He sort of felt close to you already. With you both being new to this adventure thing. “Yeah actually. Earlier they mentioned they were dwarves. What did they mean by that?” Bilbo looked at you a bit puzzled. “Well.. it means they are dwarves..” You gave him a equally puzzled look. Then you just thought he was joking. So you lightly laughed and joked, “Right and then next you’ll tell me elves are real too, huh?” Bilbo was now even more confused, he couldn’t tell if you were messing with him or not. “Well yes they are” he said “in fact we might run into them a long the way.” You stopped smiling and looked around at the group and said “well if they are dwarves and I’m human why are they not shorter than me and why am I not taller than them?” Bilbo opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Gandalf. “My dear it seems that when you fell into middle earth you had grown shorter or perhaps humans in your world are merely shorter than humans in ours” you then asked another question, “also Mr. Gandalf why did I faint earlier?” he took a puff of smoke and spoke again. “Perhaps it was simply your body getting use to being in a different realm. You wouldn’t happen to have traveled to a different world before, have you?” You shook your head, “no I’m afraid I haven’t.” you and Bilbo looked back at each other. You took a moment to study him then asked “Mr. Baggins you are not a dwarf are you?” Bilbo shook his head let out a chuckle. “No no I’m not a dwarf I am a hobbit.” At this time you noticed Fili and Kili return with each holding a large amount of wood in their arms. You turn your attention back to Bilbo. “Hobbit?” What is a hobbit?” You question. “Er well a halfling or er shirefolk” he answered but it was clear to see you still didn’t quite understand yet. “Ah well” he continued, “I’ll answer more questions tomorrow, but as of right now we need to rest. You have had a long day and i can sense tomorrow is going to be even longer.” And the two of you stood up, undid and set up your bedrolls and laid down for the night. Bilbo and you were in the center of the company and closest to the fire. “Mr. Baggins,” You whispered and heard Bilbo give a hum as a response. “Thank you.” You say as a yawn followed. Bilbo smiled “of course.” And you both drifted off to sleep.

“ I don’t know if I trust this ‘(y/n)’ quite yet” Thorin says as he looks over at your sleeping form next to Bilbos. “Of course not uncle. You merely just met her,” laughed Kili. The rest of the company had fallen asleep minus Dwalin and Balin, who were on night watch, and Fili, Kili, and Thorin. “I like her” stated Fili simply. “You hardly know her” Kili argued. “That doesn’t mean I can’t like her” Fili fought back. “Both of ya stop it” Dwalin warned “or I’ll tell ya mother you two were the ones that broke her favorite axe while trying to see who could break a chain with it faster.” That silenced them for a while. Thorin and Balin let out a slight chuckle and turned to look at you. You rolled over in your sleep and seemed to mumble something. Balin sighed, “I do pity her, she is just a lost girl and has no clue where she is. I mean it’s a miracle she didn’t loose her mind and run of in the woods when Gandalf told her of the prophecy.” The others nodded and turned towards you as well. “Maybe tomorrow we can learn more about why she is here and where she has come from.” Thorin spoke as he stood then turned to Balin and Dwalin. “Keep a close eye on her she may be dangerous. We have no idea what her world is like or even what she is like” and with that he went of to bed and minutes later Fili and Kili followed. And so the company of Thorin oakenshield rested for the night. Having no clue what the rest of their adventures will hold.

Ooo 😉 also as always I have like no confidence when it comes to writing Fili so this’ll probably be pretty short so very sorry about that. I do hope this turns out well. (used movie ages)

You were sitting around the fire in tonight’s camp wishing that the rain would cease. The area you and the company of Thorin Oakenshield were currently travelling through seemed to be in a permanent torrential downpour. It was getting to the point where you had almost forgotten what it was like to be dry.

Sitting beside you was Fili, the third youngest dwarf in the company and in your opinion the most attractive. Fili as usual was goofing off with his brother, Kili, who was sitting on his other side. You were staring deep into the fire not really paying much attention to what was going on around you.

As you stared into the fire it seemed that someone was calling your name and suddenly there was an elbow in your side. When you looked up Fili and Kili were looking at you expectantly.

“What?!” You grumpily asked after being abruptly pulled from your dazed state.

“Woah! No need to get testy. You’re not Uncle.” Kili laughed.

“We were only wondering what all this rain is like for you?” Fili asked.

“Cold and wet. Expect it’s the same for you.” You replied shortly.

“I mean it’s not that cold we’re dwarves you see.” Kili chimed.

“Yes, we were specifically asking how the rain was for a weak human like yourself?” Fili teased.

“Oh, bite me! I’m not in the moo-” Suddenly Fili interrupted you.

Fili looked confused and shrugged before a devilish smirk on his face as he said, “If you insist.” Before playfully lunging for you and dramatically biting at you. You yelped and leaned away from him as quickly as you could splashing in the mud and bumping into Dori, who had dosed off but was suddenly awoken by your attempt to get away from Fili. When Fili nearly bitten down on your shoulder, the grumpy leader of the company stepped in.

“FILI! DO NOT BITE THEM!” Thorin barked, staring daggers at his nephew from across the fire.

“But they told me to!” Fili hurriedly explained.

“It’s a figure of speech! Do you not say that in this world?” You asked.

“No?! Who would tell someone to bite them? As a figure of speech?” Fili questioned. At this point Thorin was rolling his eyes at the two of you before returning to his discussion with Balin.

“Well I don’t know why we say it, we just do, okay! I never mean for you to literally bite me.” You explained, growing more and more exasperated by every aspect of your current new life in Middle Earth by the second.

Fili nodded. “I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”

“I mean you didn’t know, but thank you.” You smiled at him letting you know forgave him.

Kili was observing this whole exchange with his nose scrunched and eyebrows knitted together in a look of dislike and confusion muttered, “What a weird world you come from.”

The girl from another world

Warnings: none

Summary: you fall into middle earth not so graceful and you meet the company

‘Welp I screwed up’ you thought as you walked out of the door and into the warm air. You just spent a weekend at one of your closest friends house and were now walking home. Yep. WALKING. You forgot that your car is absolutely totaled at the moment, so now you were walking 5 miles. yay. And to top it you had a very heavy backpack full of all the things you would need at a sleepover. Plus, your trusty knife that you took when you were walking alone.

Now the way you really screwed up is you forgot that your mom asked you if you could help her with this party she was throwing for your uncle and now you were an hour late and it would take you at least two more to get there. So she’s gonna be real mad when you show up and the party is basically over. You were so deep in thought that you barley noticed the wind picking up. Some leaves started to fall from the trees that were just not strong enough to hold on. “Huh,” you say to yourself “it wasn’t suppose to be windy at all today. But then again the weather people are never right.” You laugh a little to yourself and continue to walk. Then out of nowhere you started to feel a bit dizzy. You fall a little to the side and try to balance yourself but it does little to help. The ground starts to feel as if it’s caving in on itself. At this point your heart is racing and you are just trying to not face plant. “What the h- AHHHH“ you get cut off from you suddenly falling. Now you were really confused but you pushed the confusion out of the way because you were FALLING FROM THE SKY??? ‘When did I get so high?’ You thought in your head and scream at the top of your lungs. You say a quick prayer thinking it’s the end. You brace yourself as the ground comes closer and closer. But instead of smashing into the ground you are caught in two very strong arms.

You open your eyes and meet face to face with a very confused looking man. “Oh my- I’m so-what- I don’t-“ you try to speak but after all that your words just aren’t working for you right now. “That was quite the fall lassie” said the man. He looked to be probably the toughest person you have ever seen. Like wow this dude could chuck you across a football field. “Oh uh yeah- I um I yeah” you sputter out. Man your tounge just has a mind of its own at the moment. “How did you get up that high” asked another man, who had a very funky hat and a mustache, as your catcher put you on the ground. You took a sec to steady yourself and looked up to see that there were thirteen very strong looking men and a short one with very big hairy feet that stood out greatly. “I-I honestly don’t know one moment I’m walking home and- and the next I’m very dizzy and I’m fa-falling from the sky” you realize how crazy you sound but it looks like these men don’t really question you. You take another moment to study them and you can see that they are all dress extremely weird. They look like those mountain people you saw in some movie a long time ago. The next time you noticed is that they all have lots and lots of weapons. Then you notice you are now in the middle of the woods. But you know for a fact that your friend lives in a neighborhood and close to a town.

“I’m sorry but could you please tell me where I am?” You ask the man who caught you. He gave out a grunt and said “yer about a mile away from the town of Bree” okay what? Bree? You were pretty sure there was no town called Bree. “Bree? Where is that?” You question again. “You know you are asking a lot of questions for someone who hasn’t even told us your name” asked a very serious kingly man with very long black hair. oh shoot. He was right you absolutely forgot to tell them your name. “Oh right. Sorry. My name is (y/f/n) um (y/f/n) (y/l/n)” you say with a small wave. They all looked a bit puzzled. “Well that’s a strange name” said a man with a stubble and a bow across his chest. The blonde haired man with a braided mustache elbowed his side and said “Oh Kili! That’s rude! You don’t just tell people they have wierd names!” The man known as Kili gave a slight blush and mumbled a sorry. “It’s alright. I don’t mind” you giggle out, finding the interaction funny. Both of them smile and give a slight bow. “Fili and Kili at your service” they stated as they rose back up. Both of them sported a goofy grin, making you smile even more(even though you were very confused as to why they bowed to you and why they said they were at your service) “um thank you..” you say more as a question.

The two give a smile and then the man who caught you walked up with another man with a long white beard. “Dwalin,” said the man who caught you. “….and Balin” said the other. “At your service” you stood there (still very confused) and then said “and I to you.” Then short man with weird feet came up and said his name was Bilbo Baggin and one by one the rest of the group has introduced themselves to you. You found all their names were Fili, Kili, Thorin, Bilbo, Balin, Dwalin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Oin, Gloin, Ori, Nori, and Dori. (You struggled a bit at remembering their names). After all the introductions were done a very much taller man with long grey robes and a staff rode over on a horse. “I have gathered all I need to the rest of the journey we can continue on now.” He said riding up and then he spotted you. “Who is this?” He asked and gave you a warm smile. You open your mouth to speak but then Thorin inturups, “She claims to be lost and her name is (y/full/n).” You look back and forth between the two and a moment later Gandalf smiles back down at you and asks “lost? Well where is it that you need to be?” You are fiddling with your hand as you are now starting to freak out a little bit. “Well I- well um I need to be in (your town name) but apparently I’m in be-Bree?” Gandalf gave you a confused look as did the rest of the men. “Well I’m sorry my dear but I don’t think that (your town name) is a place”

You shake your head slightly. “No-no I’m pretty sure it is because I live there” you then tell how you have to help your mother and how you are late enough as it is. Then out of nowhere the wind picks up again. “Oh no not again” you cry out. The company looks even more confused now. “What are you talking about?” Asks Bofur. “I-“ you try to get out but once again you start to sway and feel dizzy again. “I don’t know what’s happening” you get out before falling on the grounds

Fíli x fem!reader

Requested: Nope. I had this idea this morning and I felt the need to write it down. I didn’t proofread so it’s probably full of mistakes since I kind of wrote this while I was frustrated about something my partner said to me. I’ll revise it soon.

Warnings: angry Fíli, some f-bombs

A/N: I don’t think they have ice scream in Erebor or Laketown but I couldn’t think of a decent alternative. So let’s say they have that :)

The fight was long, since neither of you wanted to give in.
You and Edvard, the person you thought was your one true love were screaming at each other, despite your throat being sore and hoarse from all the previous crying.

It all started pretty innocent really, you were only upset because he wanted to go to the pub. His friends were throwing a party for whatever reason, but you knew he would just be getting drunk again. And drunk Edvard was someone who had no boundaries left and to be honest, you were afraid of him. So you wanted to stay home.
You asked him polite at first, but when he refused, saying you couldn’t tell him what he should or shouldn’t do, you made him choose between you and the party.
You told him if he left he shouldn’t bother to come back. You lost.

He slammed the front door on his way out, leaving you alone. Your knees finally giving in, you crashed down on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Fall/Halloween Themed Request

So I created a fall/Halloween themed prompt board since I love this time of year and want to do some themed writing. To send in a request just send me the number that corresponds with the request you want and the character you want that prompt to be done with. Any prompt crosssed off means I have gotten two requests for it already and don’t want to write a third. I will write you a x reader style one shot, themed around what you send in. I will write for characters in the Tolkien universe only. If any other writers want to use this prompt board feel free to reblog this post.

A/N: Happy happy FILI FRIDAY!!!!! Hope you all had a great day. Since the height gap between taller humans and dwarves is often ignored, I wanted to pour one out for us tall peeps!

Pairing: Fili x Gender Neutral Human Reader

Word Count: 2,053

Warnings: alcohol- but no excessive drinking, innuendo (thanks to Kili!) and FLUFF!

Summary: You’ve fallen hard for Fili. You try to ignore your feelings. Kili sees right through you. (Are we surprised? no)

Everything in the world seemed to change when spring came. The mornings were brighter and the afternoons warmer. Trees bloomed with flowers as vibrant as oil paintings and the grass grew lush and tall- perfect for bare feet, picnic lunches, and short naps.

But your favorite part of spring was the shedding of your fur coat. Literally. Your pelt was heavy, itchy, and even smelly after months of wear and you always looked forward to taking it off for the last time and hanging it on the line to roast in the high sun. Out went your snow boots and heavy knits, in came your light tunics and knee-trousers.

And you weren’t the only one. Everyone you’d seen since dawn had suffered through the chill morning hours in order to be comfortable in their cut-sleeved tunics during the sunny afternoon. It was all worth it. It was something to celebrate.

Especially because of Fili.

It had been a long and arduous battle. Countless lives were lost, and Fili felt grateful to have survived, especially alongside his Uncle and younger brother, but only barely had he scraped by with his life. Horribly wounded, bloodied and frightened, Fili’s mind was seemingly hanging on by a thread. He was tired, and had rested for quite a while now, his mind still trying to pull itself out of the dim fog that cascaded it. It barely felt as if he existed at all, except for the dull ache which plagued him endlessly. He felt miserable.

Eyes closed, he leaned his head back on the medical cot. Everything still seemed so hazy. But the pain was real, far too real, and easily the worst part of it all. He tried everything to take his mind off it, from counting to thinking of the adventures the company had, but without anybody to distract him from it, the act itself seemed damn near impossible. That is, until she arrived.

The first thing he felt was a gentle, almost feather-like touch on his hand. After a groggy moan and several blinks, he finally managed to keep his eyes open long enough to look at the person seated beside him. It was a young woman, eyes soft and curious as she looked upon the dwarf. She looked perfect; almost too perfect, given the circumstances. She clearly didn’t do much, if any, fighting, but Fili decided it was best that a sweet woman like her didn’t see such things. Not with the way she looked at him. Such eyes should not be infected with pictures of war. It almost made him self conscious in a way; she looked like a honey-voiced angel, and he himself couldn’t exactly look particularly well at the moment. It almost made him want to shrink away, embarrassed, but she must’ve noticed that, as she gently set another hand on his and looked at him intently.

“Hello. Are you Fili.” She asked softly, her voice as sweet as nectar.

Dumbstruck, he nodded. She smiled at him.

“My name’s (Y/N). I’m a friend of Gandalf’s. I’ve been going around reading to everyone, for comfort. Would you like me to read to you?”

“Yes please.” He said softly, voice hoarser than usual.

She withdrew her hands from his and leaned back to grab a large book bag that sat beside her feet, drawing it up and into her lap.

“I have a variety of books. Which one would you like me to read?” She took out several books and showed them to him, briefly explaining what they were about. He hadn’t heard of any of them before, but if anything, that just made him more curious, which helped take his mind off the pain for a short while.

Soon, she began reading to him, from a small book with a little white rat on it titled ‘Flowers for Algernon’. Her voice was soft and kind, exaggerating words and explaining things he didn’t seem to understand. But being honest, Fili wasn’t really paying attention to the book. He was studying the girl reading it. Gandalf had never seemed to mention her, but then again, the old wizard kept many things to himself. She was dressed well, and he watched her eyes as they flicked across the lines on the page beneath fluffy eyelashes. Fili had always been quicker than his brother, more wizened and curious too, and this young woman certainly seemed to have peaked that curiosity. Languidly, he turned his palm upwards, catching the young woman’s attention. She placed her hand on his, her soft fingers dancing over his.

“Is something wrong?”

“No, not really.” He said, looking down at their entwined hands, “I was just wondering if you could talk about yourself, that’s all.”

She looked surprised for a moment, but smiled all the same.

“Alright. What would you like to know?” She giggled.

Fili thought for a moment.

“Well, where do you come from, and how do you know Gandalf, for starters.” He decided.

“Oh, I’m not from around here. I met Gandalf when I first moved to Rivendell, and when I heard he was involved in a battle, I rushed to get here.”

“I see.” Fili nodded, “That must be why you have so many books I’ve never heard of.”

“Yes”, she giggled, “I suppose it is.”

“You have a sweet laugh. I’m happy you didn’t have to fight.” Fili said sadly.

“I’m surprised that such a wounded Dwarf could be such a charmer.” She smiled, a light blush coming to her cheeks.

Fili smiled cheekily.

“It’s a gift.”

There was an undeniable tension hanging thick in the air. (Y/N) had never been quite sure of “love at first sight”, unlike Fili, who was raised with the concept and thought it to be true. But here was this darling Dwarf, charming as he was, who seemed genuinely interested in her. She wanted to believe so badly that it would work, but it all felt too quick. How hasty to make such a decision so soon. (Y/N) looked down somberly, to their entwined hands, giving his a light squeeze as their fingers wove together.

“What’s going on inside your head?” Fili wondered aloud.

“You’re a very quick thinker, Fili - Intelligent, even.” She sighed, “But I’m a very slow kind of intelligence. You’ll move too fast for me, tire of me easily.”

“No I won’t. Not when there’s so much left to learn about you, so many stories to tell and books to be read.” He reassured hastily, as if trying to convince both her and himself that this could work.

For the first time in his life, Fili had felt it. Growing up, he’d always been told that, when a Dwarf finds their one, they just know. Like a feeling that they can’t get rid of, which consumed their very being. He had never known what to think of that, what it might feel like. But he just seemed to get it now. The swell in his chest, the nervousness, and the overwhelming sensation of ‘I want to care for you’ which consumed him fully.

“(Y/N), I know I’m injured, horribly so. But if you were to have me, to even just let me stay by your side, I promise I will recover. Not even the stars could tear me away from you, if you would have me.”

The young woman looked stunned for a moment. She had just come to read a book, not get a declaration of undying love, after all. But this dwarven prince seemed so gentlemanly, so sure of himself, that it seemed to sway her judgement. Though she still had her doubts, many of them in fact, she found herself quite taken with the idea of being with him. She smiled.

“Then you better get some rest. If you are to stay with me, that is.” She said shyly, “It’s only been a short while, but I fear I’ve become quite taken with you already.”

Fili beamed from ear to ear.

“Promise you won’t leave me too soon?”

“Promise.” Fili assured, a determined look on his face.

(Y/N) made a content sound, looking down at their hands before removing the bag from her lap, sitting up a bit besides the cot and placing a soft and delicate kiss to Fili’s flushed cheek. She pulled back and smiled at him, lovingly.

“I have to go read to the other soldiers now, but I promise I’ll come back quickly. Don’t leave me, Fili. I’ll be waiting.”

He watched with dreamy eyes as she stood, putting the novel back in the book bag and wandering off to another cot near his. He heard the faint murmur of her voice as she talked comfortingly to another soldier. Fili found himself hoping that her mind would stay true to him, and that she wouldn’t sway from what she said. She seemed to have bewitched him, body and soul, and he could only pray that she felt the same.

And suddenly, Fili realized, he didn’t feel quite as much pain as before.
