Listening to the audiobook for "Opposable Thumbs" about Siskel & Ebert & what really strikes me as interesting is how they inspired the internet critic & yet no one of note ever aped the dual/dueling hosts style on YouTube. Seems like that might have been interesting.

"If critics hate it, that means it's good."
I'm not saying to trust critics all the time but critics hated the Emoji Movie. Does that mean it's a fucking masterpiece of a film then?
Just enjoy the fucking Freddy Movie and shut up.

so many good movies that prove themselves to be inventive and bold takes are done wrong because of dickhead critics who exaggerate little things out of proportion and play to peoples biases about the movie before it even comes out, in an effort to drive engagement from clicks and views, and then puppeteer the masses to doing it along with them because todays audiences dont want to think for themselves and are more comfortable being coddled instead of challenged in any way by the media they partake in.
this post is about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice among many others

Barbenheimer Whiplash
Now that Barbie has sold more than ONE BILLION dollars of tickets at the box office worldwide and our beloved Greta Gerwig has become the #1 commercial female director in movie history, it’s time for the complaints. We’ve been waiting! Oh, but wait. Now that Oppenheimer has sold more than $600 million dollars of tickets at the box office worldwide and proven there is no ceiling to how popular,…

I noticed that over the years some film critics are wowed by novelty rather than quality of material. Not all of them but some are like this. it’s noticeable.

Roger Ebert - The One Film Critic to Rule Them All
I think we all knew the end was near for Chicago Sun Times film critic Roger Ebert when he announced to the world that his cancer had returned. In his blog entitled “A Leave of Presence,” which was published just a couple of days before his death on April 4, 2013, Ebert announced he would be cutting back his workload to conquer this dreaded disease which had wreaked havoc on his body for the last…

PSA: A scholarship for LGBTQ and Nonbinary Film/TV critics of color in Southern California!
A wonderful organization I am on the board of has partnered with Rotten Tomatoes to award a scholarship to three talented LGBTQ and/or nonbinary critics of color in the Southern California.
So far, we have mostly gotten submissions from trolls and racists, and we really want to award some fresh writing talent!
“The Crimson Honors scholarship is open to qualifying community or state college students in the Southern California area who are seeking a career in entertainment criticism. A select panel of GALECA members will review and consider all student submissions of film/TV criticism and/or commentary featured in a campus media outlet in 2022. After deliberation, the panel will honor three students who demonstrate excellence in their craft. The grand prize winner will receive $3000, with two finalists each collecting $1,500. All three winners will also receive $100 Fandango and VUDU gift cards to watch movies in theaters or at home, and a complimentary yearlong GALECA membership, with opportunities to meet editors and Advisory Board members in the group. “

So fun fact about the original Friday the 13th. Film critic Gene Siskel, known for his work with Roger Ebert, hated the film. Like aloooot. Not only did he spoil the ending (an asshole move in and of itself) but he also published the address of one of the actors, Betsy palmer, in a newspaper and encouraged people to send hate mail to her. He got the address wrong but Holy fucking hell, imagine someone trying that shit today. They'd get their asses sued off for privacy violations and incitement of hatred

Under the Watchful Eye of Armchair Critics
Have you ever scrolled to read comments from people about how a professional basketball player who lost a game should have shot the ball during crunch time? They pause the video and say, “Hey, he should done this and that.” People who are comfortably nestled on the couch in their living room going through videos who are in a position to call professionals as dumb or stupid like they could have…
