THE FINAL GIRLS
the last remaining central female horror character, the one who is still alive even after going up against an unrelenting villain like a masked killer.
Laurie Strode - Halloween
Laurie Strode is one of the first and most influential examples of Final Girl. She walks perfectly in the line of being innocent and vulnerable, along with brave, intelligent and ingenious, and proves to be the perfect match for Michael Myers. Being chased and attacked by Michael Myers on several occasions would be a truly distressing experience, but she proves her bravery by avoiding him and attacking when she got the chance.
Sidney Prescott - Scream
Sidney Prescott is surprisingly well-adjusted, considering the traumatic events that followed her throughout her adult life, watching her defend herself from seven different assassins who wore the famous Ghostface costume. Throughout the franchise, Sidney becomes stronger and more adept at fighting the killer and, despite all the death and horror around her, she is still after the fourth film. She is an undefeated survivor and champion, making her an iconic figure in the horror genre and one of the greatest Final Girls ever created.
Ellen Ripley - Alien
Ellen Ripley is not only one of the greatest Final Girls, but is considered one of the best movie characters of all time. As a true Final Girl, Ripley is smart, a leader, bold and a survivor, not only survives, but also manages to rescue her cat and a 12-year-old girl along the way, and that makes her a heroic character as well as a survivor.
Nancy Thompson - A Nightmare on Elm Street
Most Final Girls will do everything possible to escape the antagonist, but are forced into some sort of confrontation near the end of the film. Nancy proves her endurance and goes against the current, actively looking for Freddy in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. This confrontation makes her more courageous and cunning than most Final Girls. She was young and scared, but she showed strength and determination, which helped to keep her alive.
Alice Hardy - Friday the 13th
Alice Hardy had to work hard to stay alive and bring Jason's mother, Mrs. Voorhees, down. Alice is a counselor at the Crystal Lake camp, where Jason allegedly drowned 21 years earlier and Mrs. Voorhees is now looking for revenge. Alice finds her fellow advisers brutally murdered one by one, and then finds Mrs. Voorhees herself and wages an impressive fight. and, after a long confrontation, it is Alice who emerges victorious, beheading her aggressor and consolidating herself as one of the greatest Final Girls.
Sally Hardesty - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Few Final Girls go through experiences as distressing as Sally in 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. Sally, unlike the Final Girls, is not a fighter. Although she is clearly terrified beyond reason, her strength is in her endurance and resilience. Perhaps the most realistic of the Final Girls. Sally's survival comes at the cost of her sanity. The terrible events she goes through, the fact that she escapes twice and her fierce determination to survive make her one of the best Final Girls.
Julie James - I Know What You Did Last Summer
Although 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' (and the sequel) is a simple movie involving attractive girls running away from a mysterious attacker, it does make good use of the Final Girl character. This is Julie James, who proves to be this character right from the start, suggesting that they call the police after running over the fisherman (good girl). Julie in particular is a relatively weak Final Girl, surviving only when her boyfriend comes to her aid. At the same time she remains an iconic Final Girl.
