Horizontober day 23: Magic
I’m pretty sure the Banuk shaman stuff is supposed to look as magical as possible in a zero-magic world, and I gotta say I really appreciate how good a job they did with it

Altin Clinches Narrow Victory at Four Continents
Silences doubters about fourth Worlds potential
February 4, 2024
SHANGHAI, CHINA – After two straight second-place finishes in the first half of the season, reigning and three-time World Champion Otabek Altin of Kazakhstan showed is still more than ready to win a very impressive fourth World title. The 26-year-old scored 110.27 for his short, 215.44 for his free, and 324.00 overall. “I knew it was going to be close, and I am happy to win one last Four Continents title,” Altin said – this is his third.  When asked about the ‘last’ comment, Altin deflected and said, “I am looking forward to working hard to defend my title and win a fourth.”
Three-time World medalist Guang-hong de la Iglesia of China, looking to win another gold at home, was denied by the slimmest of margins. The 25-year-old was fourth after the short with a score of 107.68 and won the free skate with a score of 216.10. His overall score vaulted him into the silver medal position with a score of 323.78, his second medal. “I would have liked another gold, of course, and to stay undefeated, but it’s fine. It was very close, and I’m thrilled with how I skated,” said the reigning Olympic bronze medalist. “I plan on going back home to California and working hard to win another medal, possibly make it gold this time!”
Reigning Olympic Champion Jean-Jacques Leroy of Canada held on to win bronze. Third after the short with a score of 107.80, he was also third in the free with a score of 215.21, getting him an overall score of 323.01. “It was such a close competition,” said the 26-year-old, who just won his ninth national title a couple of weeks ago. “It was a very close turnaround for us, so I’m happy I skated so well. It was a very tight competition, which just shows how great Worlds is going to be.”
2022 World Champion Seung-gil Lee of South Korea narrowly missed the podium. He was second after the short with a score of 107.84, fourth in the free with a score of 214.51, and finished fourth overall with a score of 322.35, less than a point off bronze and less than two off gold.
