CO 1005: The Great Duggar Campout
The Duggars go camping and the Vuolos go househunting!
-T
In LA, Jinger and Jeremy are apartment hunting with two property managers from their Church. In order to keep costs down, they have a short wish list. Jinger wants two bedrooms, private washer/dryer and two parking spaces. Jeremy was it to be close to church and in a safe neighborhood. The first apartment is in the NoHo arts district. The Duggars don’t know what NoHo means (which neither do I but I can guess) Michelle also guesses “North Hollywood” and is correct. Jinger says raising kids in an apartment would be a challenge. The producer calls her on the slip of the tongue and she insists it is not an announcement. The first apartment is called Contemporary living, and the kitchen has granite counters, subway tile and new appliances and an open floorplan.  They see what would be Felicity’s bedroom and she crawls on the carpet. It is a 750 sqft apartment. JB &M are asked about the smallest place they lived: a 900 sqft house until 5 kids, and then a 2200 sqft house until 16 kids before moving to the main house. The other Duggars couldn’t see themselves in a 700 sqft apartment at this point. Jinger and Jeremy want to keep looking.
In Arkansas, it is Monday which is Duggar family fun night- a tradition that Jana and Joy started to have family bonding time. This one is extra special as they will be camping. The family loads ups to head out to camping. Josiah and Lauren have a special announcement for the camping trip. The family caravan is off to the campsite. The boys are dropped off first to send the boys on a scavenger hunt while the girls set up camp.  The boys get a piece of a map, and Jana collects their phones so they cannot cheat.
The girls are trying to set up camp and cook dinner. Jordyn is in charge of the “little buddies” Michelle says. Kendra and Abbie get to work setting up a tent. The tent is a little bit of a puzzle, but they set it up quickly and get to work. The set up is going well.
The boys are looking for their next piece of the map. Jackson and Tyler get it out of a little cave. Ben says Josiah and John  will be the best, Josiah says Joe, and Jed finds the next clue. They keep heading to the next clue, and they look for the red enevelope. They are struggling to find it when they spot it up in a tree. Josiah starts climbing a tree, and Jim Bob recalls when he broke his arm climbing as a kid. Josiah gets the clue and the final piece of the map, and they head to the campsite.
Back in LA, they are looking at the “Vintage Hollywood,” two beds and one bath with only one parking spot but a lot of character and charm. There is a hides closet behind the bookcase. The Vuolos love the charm. The property manager said there is a rumor Charlie Chaplin lived there. Jinger in particular seems much more excited about this one.  They are still going to look at more tomorrow.
At the campsite, the girls are cooking dinner and waiting for the guys and worry about them. The boys are attemping to cross a river- they were given two boards which aren’t wide enough to get across. Making a bridge of logs and boards is a fail, so they start trying to walk across. It is fast moving, and Jim Bob tries to cross it quickly and falls into the water. Jim Bob says the good news about no phones is his phone didn’t get wet. The Duggars all wade across, and most of them stay pretty dry.
At the campsite, the boys arrive and Lauren is excited to see Josiah but worried that he was the direst one of all. Joe leads the family in prayer before dinner, and then everyone digs in. Michelle says this reminds her of the old days of having them all at home. They talk about their journey across the river and they laugh and Josiah jokes that he should win a prize for getting across the river first. Jim Bob jokes that he gets a free hamburger and hotdog. Josiah then announcing that they are expecting. Everyone cheers and Michelle rushes over to hug Lauren. Lauren says she is 9 weeks along, they had been trying for quite a while and were shocked when they found out. They are a little nervous but also grateful. Lauren says her due date is a week and a half after Kendra. Kendra is so glad they are expecting together and made her feel better. Michelle says the pregnant moms and babies get the camper, and Jim Bob joking has Tyler and Jackson dig a latrine for everyone else.
Back in LA, Jinger and Jeremy are looking at more housing. The property managers take them to the Ministry house which is a single family house off of Sunset Blvd. The property is used by the church and they will have a short term lease while they look for a more permanent place. They are in awe of how big and beautiful the house is. They want to think it over and get back to the property owners.
The Vuolos go to the coffee shop to discuss their options. Jeremy pulls up pictures. They talk over what they like. From the first place, gated parking and open plan, but small. Vintage Hollywood is so cool and stylish, but there is one parking space and it is farther from church. Then they have the ministry house- temporary but beautiful. Jinger is a little torn between the options, and Jinger says she would drop the first one. Parking is the big issue with Vintage Hollywood. And they make their decision. They call the property managers and say they want to start out in the ministry house. They are excited to have a place to stay for now.
The next morning, they are making breakfast. Ben tells Spurgeon they are making eggs and bacon on the fire. “and marshmallows” Spurgeon suggests. Ben says he slept ok, Lauren says Henry cried a little but she woke up with morning sickness anyway.  After breakfast, the family plays team building games. The first game is the A Frame Game. One team member stood in the A frame- an A shape made of wood- while the rest of the team uses ropes to support them and move them towards the finish line. Team 1 does it in 49 seconds. Team 2 does it in 36 seconds. The next game is the ski challenge game. The teams are on one set of skis and must work together to move the ski forward. Josiah’s team wins, as Ben falls near the finish line. The conclusion of the games ends the camping trip, and they thank Jana for planning it. Jessa says it is harder to get together for things like this, and it is always a blast when they do.
