Emerald Grove Group Timeline

One thing that’s confused me about act 1 is when people have arrived in the emerald grove and left it. We have a lot of moving parts going on so let me list them all out.

Spoilers below for some Emerald Grove quests and secrets

Arriving

The Teiflings - they arrive being chased by a gnoll party as we know many of the Teiflings saw their friends killed by goblins and gnolls before arriving at the grove.

The Gnoll party - this is the group that attacks the Teiflings initially and kills people like Lihala, Alfira’s mentor.

Dissected Drow Goblin party - the drow being dissected by Halsin attacked Halsin and Nettie while they were meditating.

The shadow Druids - the three rats that are getting Kahga to do the rite of thorns.

Aradin’s Crew first arrival - they have to arrive at the grove not being cashed by goblins. This includes Aradin, Remira, Barth, Liam, the three dead adventurers at the bridge, two new dead adventures in the goblin camp (I believe they are new), and Brian the dwarf being roasted.

Wyll- he arrives after the nautiloid shows up because him and Karlach get on it while in the hells.

Findal- the Hafling/Gnome in the underground passage who’s knocked out.

Goblin tunnel party - these are the goblins that are in the tunnel to the grove between the prisons to the left side of the gate.

The Gate goblin party - this is the goblin party we fight outside the grove.

Aradin’s crew second arrival - Aradin arrives outside the grove with only Remira and Barth

Zorru’s scouting party - Zorru and the Teifling who we find being eaten by the Ogrers went scouting and ran into the Githyanki on the risen road near the mountain pass.

Nymessa and Damays - the Teiflings who find Lae’zel in the goblin camp. They get in before the second goblin party attacks.

Leaving

Aradin and Halsin - Halsin joins Aradin’s crew to investigate the abandoned Selûnite temple

Zorru’s scouting party - either left before entering the grove to scout ahead or left right after arriving with main Teifling party

Nymessa and Damays - leave to check out the nautiloid explosion.

Grove Gate Policy

Halsin’s Grove policy - while Halsin is at the grove, anyone can come in. He freely offers shelter to the Teifling refugees and lets Aradin’s crew to set up camp.

Kagha’s and Zevlor’s Grove Policy?

This one is a bit confusing because we know that Kagha wants every non Druid out of the grove but during the ‘open the bloody gate cutscene’ we have Kanon telling us that he was ordered by Zevlor to not let anyone in. If you wait to trigger the dialogue, you can hear Aradin yelling to go get Zevlor and Kanon yelling back that he’s been informed. Once the battle is over and if you avoid triggering the confrontation cutscene, Aradin and Zevlor have dialogue where Aradin says he blames Zevlor for not opening the gate. We also have Remira saying they shouldn’t have trusted the Teiflings.

But we also know that the grove was expecting Halsin to return. Was Zevlor going to keep the gate closed until he could verify it was Halsin? Or was Kagha going to keep Halsin out to preform the right of thorns?

So I believe that when Aradin and Halsin left the grove, they were expecting an easy return but Kagha has Zevlor keeping a tight hold on who comes in and out. This is also why I think Wyll showed up before Halsin left.

Known Grove Activities

What have these people been doing?

We know from the banter between the Teifling couple that the Teiflings were on the road for 3 days before being attacked by gnolls and goblins.

Halsin has to dissect the Drow and realize the tadpoles are different from regular tadpoles.

Zevlor and Aradin get to hate eachother. These two haven’t met before the grove so in that window of time where they meet before Aradin leaves with Halsin, they grow to hate eachother a lot.

Kagha is able to turn the grove mostly against the outsiders. This was probably easy for her as there were multiple stressors on the grove.

Kagha being influenced by the shadow Druids.

Arabella tries to steal the idol and gets caught.

Proposed timeline

Shadow Druids make contact with Kagha and influence her to believe the rite of throne is needed to keep the Grove safe from the absolute cult.

Halsin and Nettie are attacked by the Goblin party led by the male Drow.

Halsin dissects the male Drow and finds out the tadpole is different.

The Teiflings are attacked by the Gnolls and many are killed by goblins as they flee to the grove.

Halsin convinces the other Druids to let the Teiflings stay.

Zorru’s scouting party leaves the grove. (This can happen anywhere between Teiflings arriving to Nymessa and Damays investigating the crash).

Aradin’s crew arrives at the Grove. He most likely didn’t come across any goblins because he didn’t know the temple was filled with goblins.

Aradin and Zevlor have conflict most likely over Aradin being okay with Halsin accompanying him and probably Aradin being confrontational.

Halsin leaves with Aradin putting Nettie in charge of keeping the dissected Drow secure and Kagha leading the grove.

Kagha convinces the other Druids they need to preform the rite of thrones.

Zorru returns from scouting and tells everyone about the githyanki.

Nautiloid crashes at night

Wyll arrives at the grove and endures himself to the Teiflings

Nymessa and Damays leave to investigate the crash and return.

Final is ambushed by goblins while gathering herbs and is knocked out in the underground passage.

Arabella tries to steal the idol and gets caught.

Aradin and his remaining crew return to the grove followed by the Goblin party and the player party.

So yeah, that’s my rough reconstruction of what’s happened at the grove before we arrive. Lots of moving parts so let me know if I miss anything!

I've been into the ARG/Unfiction genre since like. 2015. And literally I've understood the hype around almost every unfiction project to some degree, EXCEPT for Mandela catalogue. Like. I've never understood the hype. Maybe it's just because I found it to feel very formulaic but like. Some of the faces used for this that are meant to be slightly unsettling are just,, not perfectly proportional and are badly lit?? Like literally that's it. Like there are real people who look like that. Fix the lighting and it's just gonna look like your neighbor of something. It's not very scary

But also like, for real? On your points abt how the series itself gives off A Lot if proto-fascistic messaging,

when I first watched it I was like "oh! That's the point! This is abt how fascist governments use media like TV to influence and misinform the public in service to facism and paranoia. Like these doppelgangers aren't actually real! They're just made up boogiemen to incentivize the public to turn on their neighbors/to attack people who are disfigured or disabled" and I thought that I finally was maybe getting why people found it interesting and that I had judged it too harshly

And then it wasn't that and instead was like "yeah no. There IS a secret boogeyman group who aren't (side eye to that) who are gonna steal your children via television (even Bigger side eye), and nearly off of them are just like, slightly photoshopped pictures of Real People but now they're just disfigured/disabled/literally just slightly non proportional features

This series could be very cool, but its just a thematic mess and is (intentionally or not) communicating a lot of facistic/eugenic sentiments

LIKE. what is the POINT. half the "scary" ppl look like someone I'd see on the bus. the intruder looks like the homeless guy who asked me for bus fair a while back.

CRUCIALLY I don't think any of the bigotry was intentional, however it's SO thoroughly interwoven into Alex's worldview and the world he's created that it's like. at the fucking center of everything. it's insane to me how full grown adults analyze it on youtube and somehow manage to do that without comparing and compiling all the tropes it uses to make its point (whatever it's point even IS)

whenever me & my friend talk about it we somehow manage to keep tripping into different kinds of bigotry!! we'll be talking about ableism and how Adam's arc is very similar to many changeling tropes, which were (and to some extent still are, see: Star Children/Indigo Children) often used to abuse neurodivergent or mentally ill/disabled children. and we'll realize that Adam arc ALSO mirrors the Tragic Mulatto storyline too and it's like wow!! Two in one! you've done it so bad!!

a lot of the issues with it are small little things that could be excused as a coincidence- EXCEPT THERE'S SO MANY LITTLE THINGS THAT IT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE.

it's like- ok imagine this: you're having an interaction with someone and they do a microaggression at you, right? not outwardly bigoted, just kind of ignorant. and you're like, ok. fine. nobody is perfect, they probably didn't mean any harm. it's not worth kicking up a fuss about.

but if it keeps happening EVERY SINGLE TIME you talk to this person, it starts to build inside you and it's like. it's hard to even say why you hate them because you'd need to drag out every shitty tiny thing they've said and at that point you feel like maybe you're just being petty- BUT IT'S NOT PETTY IF IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME AAA

Jungwon was known to be the sneeziest member of the group. That was also why no one got worried when he started to sneeze a little more frequent during the last week of their tour. The slight rasp to his voice could also be explained by the almost nightly performances, as could be the fatigue. Jungwon knew better though. His nose was never that runny and his head rarely hurt, except for when he was sick. They were about to board the plane, finally getting back home from an exciting but equally as draining tour, and the young leader realized the downside to their fame….

The airport was crowded and Jungwon pulled his hood lower over his face, giving an itchy sniffle behind his mask. He had taken his temperature back at the hotel, shortly before they had to leave, so he knew he was already running a low-grade fever. Not wanting to worry the members, he had kept that to himself. Jungwon couldn’t help but feel guilty. He knew he should be there for the members and could see Niki looking so uncomfortable but he couldn’t find the energy. Feeling an arm around his shoulders, Jungwon looked up. “Everything’s okay, Jungwonnie”, Heeseung whispered, “We made it through the crowd and will get on the plane in a few minutes. Once we’re in our seats, we’ll have a couple hours to nap and relax.” The leader nodded, biting down on his lip. Had he really looked that anxious? He glanced over at Niki, checking whether their maknae was alright. Jungwon didn’t have to worry though, Niki sat between Jay and Sunoo, joking around with them.

Jungwon weakly plopped down in his seat, heaving a sigh. They had finally made it on the plane and would not have to move for the next few hours. There was still some shuffling around him as the members traded seats but Jungwon drowned it out, closing his eyes. Giving a thick sniffle, he massaged his forehead and startled when Jay tapped his shoulder. “You look exhausted”, the older commented, “Hope you’ll be able to sleep once we’re in the air.” The leader hummed hoarsely. Exhausted was an understatement.

Jay knew Jungwon wasn’t feeling his best. Heeseung had pulled him aside and initiated the new seating order, so Jay could sit next to their leader. The oldest didn’t know what exactly was going on with his dongsaeng but he had looked out of it, tense. Jungwon winced earning a concerned look from Jay. “Just a headache”, the leader mumbled, having to clear his throat as his voice cracked. Comfortingly squeezing the younger’s knee, Jay hummed: “Did you already take something for it?” – “’s not that bad”, Jungwon denied, sniffling into his sleeve, “Might take something later though.”

Jungwon regretted his statement. With the thick congestion in his sinuses, the takeoff was pure torture for him. He felt like his head would explode from the pressure change and he dug his fingernails into his thighs. “What’s wrong, Jungwonnie?”, Jay frowned, a panicked edge to his voice. A sob tore from Jungwon’s throat, the boy in too much pain to speak. All he could do was grip his hyung’s hand tightly.

They had finally reached their travelling altitude and Jungwon sat with his face in his hands, silent tears streaming down his face. Jay was thoroughly scared for his dongsaeng, watching worriedly when the younger suddenly pulled his sleeves over his hands. “Hit'choo!! Hih-tschh!! Hihh…hih-tschiew!!” Sitting back in his seat, Jungwon groaned: “Ugh, findally adjusted to the altitude.” – “Woah, do you sound stuffed up”, Jay winced, “No wonder that hurt your sinuses.” Sunghoon turned in his seat, reaching a hand back. He had pulled a travel pack of tissues from his bag and handed it to Jay, who handed one to Jungwon, so he could clean himself up.

“You’re not coming down with something, are you?”, Jay asked worriedly when the leader gave a scratchy cough. Rubbing his face, Jungwon sniffled: “I-I, I thigk I mbight be catch’g a cold.” That was lie, Jungwon knew he was already in the thick of it, having come down with it over the course of the past week. “You should really try to get some sleep then”, Jay advised, shrugging out of his sweat jacket when he saw the boy shudder. Draping it around Jungwon’s shoulders, he repeated that the leader should get some rest and watched how the other put in his earphones, so he wouldn’t be woken up again. When Jay was confident that his dongsaeng was asleep, he carefully felt the boy’s forehead and frowned.

There had been a bunch of delays, so the group was relieved when they finally made it back to Seoul. Jungwon had to realize that this didn’t go in his favor at all. As the leader, he had a meeting scheduled for the day after their arrival. Seeing as they got back later than expected, the other members were taken back to the dorm, while Jungwon had to go to the company building and meet management. He wished to at least have a change of clothes, not wanting to face those higher up in the clothes he had slept in, but there was no time. His throat ached and he wasn’t sure he even had enough voice left to have a meeting but figured he wouldn’t be the one talking anyway.

Just as they had to part, Jake pressed a bag of cough drops into Jungwon’s hand and shot him an encouraging smile. “We’ll have some tea ready for you when you get back”, Heeseung promised. By now the entire group knew their leader wasn’t feeling well. Jungwon shook his head and sniffled: “You should be sleeping off your jet lag when I get back.” – “Yeah and you should be in bed, not working with a fever yet here we are”, Jay pointed out, “We can’t always do what we should be doing, so….”

Jungwon didn’t know how he did it but he somehow managed to get through the meeting, only mildly humiliating himself with how croaky his voice sounded. When the meeting was over, his head pounded and he felt like he had been hit by a car. Everything ached but that was to be expected with how much he had been dancing and the hours he had slept in a plane seat. Sucking on a cough drop, Jungwon pulled out a tissue and tried to blow his nose but he wasn’t too successful. Just when he thought he was finally able to go home and crawl into his own bed, Jungwon was met with the next misfortune.

“I’m sorry, it looks like the road is closed. This is the closest I can take you to your dorm”, the driver hummed apologetically, glancing out the windshield. The rain was drumming on the roof of the car and with how much was coming down, Jungwon wouldn’t have been surprised if a fish had swum past their vehicle. Giving the young idol a sympathetic smile, the driver grimaced: “I sadly don’t have an umbrella that I could lend you but maybe if you put your hood up and walk really fast, it won’t be too bad. It’s only two blocks down that street.” Always polite, Jungwon thanked the driver, pulling up his hood. HHe already shivered just thinking about opening the car door but it couldn’t be helped. He wanted to get home and he could take a hot shower as soon as he made it. The others should be done taking turns showering by now, so he could stay under the hot water as long as he wanted.

Jogging through the rain, Jungwon was soon soaked to the bone. He slowed his steps, growing dizzy from the exertion, and braced himself against one of the buildings. “Huh-tshh!! Huhh'tsch!! Huh-tchoo!!” Sniffling into his wet sleeve, Jungwon fought back some tears. He didn’t feel good at all and he just wanted to be home and in bed. With every step he took, Jungwon could feel the water in his shoes. His legs felt heavy but he dragged himself back to the dorm. He didn’t even know if he was shaking from the strain or the cold that had soaked through his clothes like the rain. All he knew was that it was incredibly difficult to type in the code. Eventually, Jungwon just knocked on the door and waited for one of the members to open it for him.

“Oh shit”, Jake gasped as he looked at his dripping dongsaeng, “Straight to the bathroom?” Jungwon gave a pathetic nod, holding onto the doorframe. Leading the younger to the bathroom, Jake promised: “I’ll fetch you some comfortable clothes, just get warm.” That was exactly what the leader did after shoving his clothes into the wash. The hot water hitting his stiff shoulders and back was soothing, yet he still trembled.

��What happened?”, Heeseung frowned when Jake returned after bringing Jungwon his clothes. They could both hear the desperate sneezes as the steam of the shower cleared the leader’s congestion. Jake bit his lip, humming: “Can’t say for certain but he looked like he was soaked all the way through. Don’t know if he walked all the way from the company building but that would be cruel.” – “I’m making some soup”, Jay announced, “He was already feverish when we got on the plane, so he should be able to take some medicine now. Tea’s ready by the way. Maybe you could put the thermos on the coffee table?” Jake complied while Sunoo went to the room he shared with Sunghoon, Jungwon and Niki and fetched a few blankets.

When Sunoo finished setting up the couch, he ran into Sunghoon, who placed a tissue box onto the coffee table. He had already put one next to Jungwon’s bed, knowing the younger would need it. Niki lingered next to Jay as the older cooked, unsure how to help. “Hit'choo!! Hih-tschh!!” Rubbing at his face, Jungwon shuffled into the common area, his face flushed, eyes brimming with tears. “There you are”, Jake smiled, pulling the younger into a hug. The leader couldn’t help but melt into the embrace as he still felt cold after. While Jake pulled the younger to the couch, Heeseung went to fetch a towel.

“Here, let me dry your hair properly. We can’t have you getting worse”, the oldest hummed, rubbing Jungwon’s hair dry. Jake had taken a seat next to the leader, holding his hands in his own to warm them up while Sunoo draped a blanket around the boy’s shoulders. Pulling one of his hands from Jake’s, Jungwon lifted the edge of the blanket to his face as his breath hitched. “Hit'choo!! Hih-tschh!! Hihh…hih-tschiew!! *sniff*” Handing him a wad of tissues, Niki asked: “Do you still feel cold, hyung?” The leader nodded and pulled the blanket tighter as a shiver ran down his spine.

While the maknae scurried off, Jay handed Jungwon a bowl of steaming soup, smiling: “I don’t think you’ve had a chance to eat in quite a while, so once you have something in your system, we can get you some medicine.” – “Thanks, Jay-hyungie”, the leader rasped as he accepted the soup. The warmth felt nice on his sore throat but he had to be really careful not to spill any with how badly his hands trembled.

When Niki returned, he knelt in front of the couch smiling: “I got you some fuzzy socks, hyung.” He carefully slipped them onto Jungwon’s feet, hoping the leader would feel warmer soon. “How did you end up so drenched anyway?”, Heeseung asked worriedly, grabbing another blanket to cover Jungwon’s legs. Scrubbing at his pink nose, Jungwon sniffled: “One of the roads was closed. I odly had to walk two blocks or somethi’b buh with how hard it rained….” Sunghoon winced at how stuffy the boy sounded and snuck off to their room to set up the humidifier. They’d probably all go to bed soon, exhausted from their tour and the long flight home, so hopefully Jungwon would feel a little better once he had gotten some proper rest.

Findal: Oh, thank you, thank you. I thought I was going to die down here. Kyvir: How did those goblins slip into the grove? Findal: It's my fault. I thought I'd given them the slip, but they followed me through the tunnel back there. I must tell the others what happened. Step careful - there are traps in these tunnels. And thank you again.

Did you guys know there was a tunnel leading into the Grove? Because I did not. It was full of traps, but a) the traps didn't seem to be hurting the goblins camping out in there at all and b) the switches to disable them were before the traps themselves, so...

This is really fun and cute and quirky!” Nova practically cringed at the way her voice sounded as she tried to explain to the boy that the situation he had found her in was one she’d come to enjoy. Sure, at first it was sad and not exactly what she had planned, but now it’d come to be a sort of habit for her. In her quest to make friends, Nova went to The Library - the bar - and would sit down at a high table. She’d order a gin and tonic, of course, and would read her smutty novels on her kindle so no one else could ever see. When she giggled at her screen or her cheeks flushed then she knew no one would know exactly the reason. It made her feel mysterious and, yes, that was just about the only mystery she had going for her. Otherwise she could be read like an open book. “I have friends. I-Its just I fall asleep when I read at home and this place is like the hip spot to be...”

Faye couldn’t help it, she found herself laughing as she witnessed the boy with the book in his hands. “Dale... this is just about the saddest drug deal I’ve ever seen.” The girl stepped closer to read the title of the pages in his hands, “What’d you bring though?” It had become a mini book club at this point. Did it count as a book club if it was just two people? Faye couldn’t tell but she loved the idea. It meant that she had a friend who wasn’t a sibling and that was special to her. That was something she needed right about now. “I just finished the Percy Jackson series. Call me childish but that series is just so nostalgic for me. I needed a break from the text books I’ve been devouring. Biochem might actually take years off my life.”

Introduction

With Python, you can quickly write scripts to scrape data from websites without the need for complex setup or configuration. Python is a versatile, easy-to-learn, and scalable programming language. That makes it a great choice for web scraping for both beginner and advanced developers. It comes with a vast collection of libraries for retrieving data from web pages, with BeautifulSoup and Scrapy as two of the most popular example.

BeautifulSoup is a Python library used for parsing HTML and XML documents. It provides simple methods and Pythonic idioms for navigating, searching, and modifying the parse tree. With BeautifulSoup, you can easily extract data from HTML pages, making web scraping tasks straightforward.
