How to find yourself in this digital world :)

In college it is difficult to be unique when the standard for perfection is set. We spend so much time trying to be excepted into a foreign space that we forget who we are. Here are some things that you can do to be your beautiful self in a world that has fallen out of love with originality.

1. Reflect on who you were, as a child.

Someone once told me that we should remember who we were on the playground. As children, we were the most authentic version of ourselves. This is a perfect snapshot of who we were before we cared about others’ opinion. Were you the kid that played alone? Did you make up the game or game rules? Did you enjoy designing dress on blank paper or braiding everyone’s hair? You knew who you were and who you wanted to be. This is a great

2. Take some time off from social media.

If you dive deep into your reasoning for having certain interests, you may find that there is another side of you that has gone unexplored. Social media has influenced us in so many ways. Stepping away from consuming influential content can lead you to understanding more about your true self rather than learning more about others through social media posts. Curate your own content! Creating more than you consume is key.

3. Date yourself.

I haven’t dated myself a lot, but I often see my close friends taking themselves on short trips, going to dinner or brunch alone, or even to see movies. It’s a bit difficult for me because I am awkward in some social settings, but I love being alone. My awkwardness is definitely sourced from always being in group settings, but it’s okay to be a little awkward when you are getting used to something new.

Dating yourself gives you plenty of time to focus on yourself and understand more things that you like about yourself. Get to know yourself more! What are your likes and dislikes?

4. Remember that your imperfections and quirks are what makes you beautiful.

I have seen a lot of people discount who they are to fit into a group setting better. DONT DO THAT! Why would you want to be like everyone else when most people are average. This is why getting to know yourself: you need to know what you do and don’t like. Sometimes people don’t like things about you because it makes you shine even brighter. Jealousy is real, babes.
