@lulagoce Lula Goce was born in Galicia, Spain. She grew up influenced by the salty coastal air, Barnacles, Drizzle and the beautiful beaches this region of Spain is famous for. At 20 she moved away too Salamanca and graduated in fine arts specializing in painting. She proceeded too take part in competitions and scholarships with emphasis on ephemeral sculptures as well as paintings, both in public spaces, museums and galleries. I start by making lots of spontaneous marks – and then respond to them with more marks or patches of colour – laid down instinctively and very quickly. Gradually those spontaneous marks begin to need coherence through pictorial structures and forms. These structures are either imposed or found within the spontaneous marks. They create the necessary armature which supports the free flowing expression. The pace of painting slows as I concentrate on weaving together structure and spontaneity – seeking balance and harmony. @grimbot I began this series of drawings with the simple aim of improving my portraits, so I tried to limit my colours as much as possible to reduce the number of variables. This forced me to solve problems in unusual ways, and I liked the strangeness of the resulting images.
