🔥 the sequels? Anything about them tbh, I just wanna hear your hot takes about them 😂
oh boy do I have Thoughts™. some of these are unpopular, some are popular, but I'm not here to discriminate
the entire thing should've had at least a rough plan before they even started to make tfa. the problems that the cursed movie and tros had were mainly caused by the fact that no one planned anything for shit beyond tfa
the problems the shitshow trilogy had reflect directly to the problems everything made after it has
ruin johnson is a hack writer and hack director who doesn't understand star wars for shit
I will never understand why they felt the needs to separate the original squad like that
if you're gonna write a sequel, don't just recycle what came before. I still love tfa but can agree it was too much of an anh rehash
speaking of recycling, don't recycle every single mistake made in the earlier installments jesus fuck
if they wanted rey to be a nobody then don't give her all those luke parallels!
lando was criminally underused
rose tico deserves better now and forever
kyle ron did not deserve any kind of redemption, especially not by hallucinating his father who he killed after his mother dies for him
speaking of, han and leia deserved a better child and I wish kaydel ko connix had been their canonical daughter
poe had a canonical backstory in the comics that could've easily been referenced with a line or two, why the fuck did they feel the need to retcon it???? and make it worse?????
finn's storyline in the cursed movie is just his storyline in tfa with some extra steps
rey's storyline in the cursed movie is just her storyline in tfa with some extra steps
finn should've lead a stormtrooper uprising
LET SKEEVY SHEEVY STAY DEAD AND KYLE BE THE MAIN VILLAIN JESUS FUCK
I love parallels and callbacks but they have to mean something. don't just slap them in and call it a day
if you're gonna boast about having a diverse™ cast then don't make the white male villain your main character and actually treat your characters of color well
lucasfilm didn't do shit to protect john boyega and kelly marie tran from bigoted harassment and I will forever hate them for it (I know daisy ridley and oscar isaac also got some but john and kelly were especially targeted throughout the run)
all the characters, even the villains who I hate, deserve a better story
send me a 🔥 for unpopular opinions (please give me a topic)

okay i finally finished the star wars sequel trilogy and here’s my opinion and thoughts on each of the movies that no one asked for but i want to share anyway 🤓🤓 spoilers below!
The Force Awakens:
Don’t have a strong opinion on this movie TBH, I think it’s the weakest of the three but it’s a good introduction movie.
Wasn’t expecting Han’s death…RIP TO A REAL ONE😭
Still don’t understand how Rey was able to beat a trained Kylo Ren in battle…she was too OP for the first movie.
Kylo’s back story isn’t convincing enough and I think he’s kind of lame, I don’t think they did him justice.
Transitioning between scenes is so reminiscent of the OG triology and I love it.
The Last Jedi:
THE BEST OUT OF THE THREE!! I really enjoyed this movie; especially all the different sub plots. I loved that we got to see more characters.
I AM A FINNPOE ENTHUSIAST
I AM NOT A REYLO ENTHUSIAST
I liked Rose’s character and her dynamic with Finn!! Kelly Marie Tran did not deserve all the hate she got ): Rose was awesome ):
The scene in Snoke’s throne, Kylo reminded me so much of Anakin in ROTS, from the hair to the expression on his face, I literally think he channeled Anakin’s energy into his performance (think of Anakin when he first pledged loyalty to Palpatine)
Kinda confused on the direction they went in with Luke. You mean to tell me Luke refused to kill Darth Vader because he believed there was light still in him, but couldn’t extend the same hope to Kylo? Idk, Luke’s main characteristic is that he’s the hopeful, optimistic hero and I feel like they completely scrapped that. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY DONT EVEN DIRECTLY TELL YOU WHY KYLO HAD SO MUCH DARKNESS IN HIM, i blame the story tellers
Luke saying no one’s ever really gone…yeah I cried 😭
I knew Luke died from like years ago, but watching his force spirit in front of the two suns just reminded me of that iconic scene in ANH where he’s standing in front of the two Tatooine suns. Literally one of my favorite Star Wars scenes EVER 🥹
The Rise of Skywalker
I think my biggest gripe with this trilogy is that it completely ruins Anakin/Vader being the Chosen One. Like….George Lucas confirms he’s the Chose One and then we see in ROTJ that he helps brings balance to the force, thus completing the prophecy. BUT THEN PALPATINE DIDNT DIE AND HES BACK AND THAT MAKES THE PROPHECY COMPLETELY MOOT AND THATS AN INSULT TO MY POOKIE.
Didn’t expect Leia to die…I know Carrie died (RIP TO A REAL ONE) but I honestly didn’t know she was going to die in the movie and I kept on wondering how they were going to pull it off. And I’m just realizing they killed each of the OG trio 😭
We needed more Rose.
They built up Finn to be a love interest for Rey in the first movie then completely scrapped that idea for Reylo 😭
Not sure how I feel about Reylo. I was really hoping they wouldn’t kiss then BOOM they kissed. Idk I just don’t think the chemistry was there.
I still think they did Kylo’s character building dirty, but I did enjoy his redemption arc. RIP
The voices of all the Jedi guiding Rey, I CRIED OKAYYYYYY
FINNPOE SUPREMACY
I love FinnPoe, but also Finn and Poe separately. Oscar and John were amazing
Seeing all the Death Stars crash, the Ewoks looking up and cheering, the celebration scene 😭😭😭😭 I cried so much IDK it just reminded me so much of the the end of ROTJ and honestly I’m a huge sucker for a good winning final scene.
Overall, I enjoyed the trilogy more than I thought I would and while I do think it’s not PERFECT and I do think there’s a lot to fix, I do think a lot of SW fans are just salty and hated the idea of a more diverse, female led franchise. I would definitely watch again (:
Now I need to know what happens after lol

Star Wars could do a movie that's as hype as Avengers Infinity War.
Using the best actors that you can for Star Wars movies makes obvious sense. I mean, who's not gonna wanna see a movie with all their favorite Star Wars characters in an epic conclusion to The Skywalker Saga? (for real, this time, not that crime against humanity called TROS)
I think the worst thing about Star Wars right now is how much wasted potential it has after The Sequel Trilogy & Disney+ shows.
The best characters in this whole era of Star Wars have been underutilized. Ben Solo, Rey Nobody (TLJ Rey), Armitage Hux, & Finn have all suffered due to a lack of direction in The Sequel Trilogy. Finn being the most obvious one out of that bunch.
Hux deserves his own series of posts tbh. He's a very interesting character. He never got the time to shine & be a very compelling antagonist to both Ben & Rey. He eventually would become one of Ben's greatest allies in his journey to rebuild his life.

an essay in which i rant about the rise of skywalker
im not an overly critical person, especially when it comes to my faves, and i do understand the importance of constructive criticism. i generally prefer just liking the things that i like; which isn't to say ppl who are more critical than me aren't capable of liking things! like obviously ppl can like things however they wish to, whether that's with a critical eye or not. thats perfectly valid. my point is im simply not that kind of person.
THAT BEING SAID... I love Star Wars, I love it a lot, it means so much to me and generally i dont really talk about its flaws and criticisms bc like i said im not super critical, but the fact of the matter is....the sequel trilogy absolutely sucked. it had potential but it didnt live up to it.  it had some good moments ofc, but after the first movie, it just kept getting worse.
the rise of skywalker SPECIFICALLY ruined the sequel trilogy for me. i didnt mind the last jedi that much. but the LAST movie in the skywalker saga....oh man it fucking bombed.
ive been playing the rise of skywalker chapter in the lego star wars the skywalker saga video game so thats why ive been thinking about TROS lately and how much it fucking sucked lol
when i saw it in theaters (last time i was in the theater before the pandemic hit btw lol) i liked it but ive long since had time to think it over and yeah. it's not a good movie. and the fact that i’m saying that??? it really wasnt a good movie lol
my biggest issue is palpatine returning somehow. i still dont get it. ive eventually accepted darth maul's return bc whatever it's star wars but palpatine somehow living this whole time is ????? tbh it felt like a cheap move on the writers part. like omfg why???
why the fuck would you bring back palpatine it's so fucking lazy like you couldnt think of a better villain??? ALSO THE FACT THAT REY IS RELATED TO PALPATINE IS SUCH COMPLETE BULLSHIT I FUCKING HATE IT LIKE PPL JOKED ABOUT HER BEING A PALPATINE AND IT ENDED UP BEING TRUE????? WTF
like what the FUCK???? it's bad enough you brought back palpatine but you had to make him rey's GRANDFATHER which implies palpatine somehow had sex when he was like. struggling bc he SOMEHOW SURVIVED????????????? MAKE IT MAKE FUCKING SENSE
so much bullshit........and also finn and rose tico deserved WAY better. finn and poe and rey deserved better. everyone except for palpatine deserved better. yes even fucking kylo ren. i hate him but he deserved better than whatever characterization he got.
the fucking kiss was so unnecessary too like what the fuck. the rise of skywalker is the WORST star wars movie. thanks for coming to my ted talk

No nuance November, Star Wars edition (ending this month with a bang) and I’m calling myself out too
Every canon ship is unhealthy in one way or another except for Kanan/Hera (that is all I’m gonna say about ships because I ain’t gonna die today)
Anakin was a better master to Ahsoka than Obi-Wan was to him (I still love Obi tho)
Rose, The Martez Sisters, Rey and Jar Jar get too much hate while we should all be hating Watto and the Hutts
Mace Windu get too much hate by some people in the fandom (lowkey used to be me tbh)
As much as I love fanfics where Anakin and Padmé announce their marriage and everyone live happily ever after (I have written many myself) Anakin would never give up Luke and Leia to get trained by Obi-Wan or Yoda or even Ahsoka. He would be too attached and this could cause a deeper rift between him and The Order if they try to take the twins.
The fandom is either let’s blame the council for all of Anakin’s problems or Anakin for everything wrong in the Galaxy when there is a good mix of both. But mostly POLITICIANS
Anakin is definitely not the dumb jock stereotype as many people in fandom say he is and same with Han Solo
People forget that Anakin and Ben Solo were both victims of grooming and that’s effing depressing
Anakin was definitely gaslighted once or twice in the Clone Wars
Like only Poe fits the Himbo mentality...barely
Dooku is underrated as a villain
Attachments should be allowed okay
People in the fandom never really discuss Leia’s trauma
Like I know people think Leia would be Anakin’s fave and Luke is Padmé’s fave but I can see Anakin liking Luke more and Padmé liking Leia more
Shit, Han’s trauma is never talked about
Young Ferus Olin needs to be punched in the face, that asshole
The Sequel and Prequel trilogy deserved better from the writers
The Clovis Arc just pissed me off, it shouldn’t have had happened
GATEKEEPING NEEDS TO STOP “like no sir, I have not read the comics or watched Resistance or read all the books or own every merchandise”
Like Prequels and Clone Wars got me hooked in the fandom and not the Originals
For some people it was the sequels
John Boyega was right about the assassination of Finn’s character
Qui-Gon was an ass to drop Obi like a hot pocket for a new shinier Padawan

I think that the way Disney will try to spin the failure of the sequel trilogy is by saying that the reason they’re not making any new content or spin-offs related to it is that “this trilogy capped off the end of the saga, so it is definitively over, and there’s no need to continue that story when it’s time to start new stories”
(Which will ignore the fact that they’re also selling no sequel-related merch, lol, or the fact that if it were successful, they’d be making ENDLESS spin-offs and new tv shows related to it. It’ll be just like when they tried to spin the bombing of Solo as “Star Wars fatigue” even though the MCU CONSTANTLY releases new titles, all of which were enormous successes)
Either way, we know the truth, and the more they try to distance the sequels from everything else that’s Star Wars, the better. Let there be a new timeline, tbh, and let us get to see Luke create a successful and long lasting new Jedi Order, Leia successfully create the successful and long lasting New Republic, and a bunch of new POC characters who do not get sidelined and who get treated with respect
yup we’ll always know the truth. i find it bittersweet because on one hand, at least they know the st was a waste and almost cost them the whole franchise. but on the other hand finn/john deserved SO much more and i hate to think of it all going to waste like that.

critrole 👀 GO OFF. but if someone beat me to it - star wars pls
STAR WARRRRRRRRRS baby’s first second fandom
the first character i ever fell in love with: it WAS old ben kenobi. I can’t help it; I see a powerful mentor hero-of-their-own-story character with a special sword and it’s over for me. it’s the obi wan/brom/aragorn/etc stan in me a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: mmmm there are a bunch of EU characters whose arcs were..... less than thrilling. the solo twins come to mind (fuckin rip jacen solo). I also love ahsoka a whole lot but I think it would be okay if they stopped bringing her back for every single new title in the franchise a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I dislike what they did with han/leia in the sequel trilogy but I’m still a big han/leia fan so idk if that counts. tbh star wars shipping is like comic shipping you just gotta shrug and let shit happen my ultimate favorite character™: obi wan kenobi prettiest character: s/o to my baby crush on padme also FINN also poe my most hated character: I wish I could say it was kyle ron but they really just ruined any chance he had to be like, a well-realized character and he doesn’t deserve my hatred. it’s jorus c'baoth. also joruus c’baoth if he counts the whole clone thing was A Lot my OTP: han/leia, jedistormpilot. luke/mara jade from the books I loved mara jade (rip mara jade). also I was a big obidala shipper as a kid (like I said baby’s first second fandom) my NOTP: r*ylo :/ favorite episode: A NEW HOPE (fave to least fave: 4, RO, 5, 7, 6, 3, 8, 2, 9, 1) saddest death: leia cause it was so STUPID. see you space mom. also kanan actually :(((((((( reader I cried favorite season: like, season 3 of rebels maybe? one of the later clone wars season? I can’t keep any of the clone war eps straight. I’m gonna swap season for trilogies so the Original Trilogy but I want to include rogue one in that selection least favorite season: the sequels :) also rebels s4 what the fuck :( character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: again I will go with kyle ron even tho this feels like a cop out my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: kallus! he got better tho. also like. novel!thrawn but in a fun way my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: finn :) my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: I have read good luke/leia/han fanfiction and also a whole lot of other weird squicky fic in my youth. guys ff.net in the late 2000s was a terrifying place to be my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: anidala, luke/han, padme/sabe, a LOT of minor fic ships. finn/rose.

My Armitage Hux Treatment Rant from your Supreme Fangirl
Tumblr media
Hello, my followers. As I saw from the feedback of my Reylo rant that all of you liked it very much. So I thought I would do a Hux treatment rant throughout the sequel trilogy.
1. In the TFA he was a total badass. His speech on Starkiller Base makes me happy every time I hear it. He was amazing. badass, wonderful.
2. During the TLJ he became comic relief. Which I hated. In the previous movie, he was fearful, he was powerful, he was evil. But he soon became comic relief for people of the movies because the writers didn’t think people actually liked him. He was Kylo Ren’s punching bag, Snoke’s rag doll. He was thrown to the side and that in itself is wrong.
3. In TRoS his character development was thrown out the window completely. You’re telling me that A MILITARY MASTERMIND was dumbed down and made a spy for the Resistance.
4. In said movie, you’re telling me that HUX didn’t have a plan for when he got caught. That he didn’t have an escape plan, that he wouldn’t have LEFT WITH FINN, POE, REY, AND CHEWIE when he got caught.
5. His death. His death hurt, it felt uneventful, it didn’t fit right with his character. What made me so sad was that he was killed close-range blaster to the abdomen from his abuser, Pryde, whom I have stated before that I despise.
6. He was DEMOTED. He was demoted and his abuser was promoted to the position that he well deserved. He deserved the title of ALLEGIANT GENERAL ARMITAGE HUX, not fucking Pryde.
7. He has a complex and tragic childhood. His birth mother was killed and was raised by a father who hated him because he was illegitimate. He was abused both emotionally and physically by his father. His stepmother hated him, possibly more than Brendol. He was also abused by his father's friends including Pryde. He was called sickly, thin as a sheet of paper and was belittled by Kylo during TRoS.
8. In the last movie, this pisses me off the most. He had 5 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME. He had so little screen time and it pisses me off.
9. When it was revealed that he was the spy I called it once he took the blaster from the stormtrooper. I whispered to myself “he’s the spy, isn’t he? He’s the spy.” I was confused, to be honest. It didn’t seem like it was the Hux that I knew from TFA.
10. He needed more screen time, needed more of a storyline to make the spy part of it make sense. I get it, he became the spy because he wanted to be petty in TRoS. I didn’t like him being the spy tbh. I’ve read a fix-it fic which I recommend. It’s called Rebel.
11. He deserved so much better than what he got. He deserved to be happy. I would 100% support him becoming Emperor or Supreme Leader.
12. I have seen Emperor Hux fanart and I live for it. I love it and would 100% support if it became an actual thing.
13. Supreme Leader Hux I haven’t really seen a lot of art for it but like with the Emperor Hux concept, I would 100% support him becoming Supreme Leader.
14. He is one of my favorite characters throughout the sequel trilogy.
15. He is one of my boys. I will love him until the day I die.
Disclaimer:  I’m not justifying his actions. Yes, he committed war crimes. Yes, he is a villain. And yes, he is responsible for billions of deaths. I’m just stating my problems with his treatment throughout the sequel trilogy.

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but I personally dislike Rey because she's been a really terrible friend to Finn and Poe?? Like in TLJ, after she sees Kyle putting Finn INTO A COMA after Finn tried to protect her and tortured Poe, she immediately decides that she wants to redeem Kyle??? And all throughout the trilogy, she constantly prioritized Kyle over literally everybody else. She decided to force heal Kyle instead of her injured friends. She chases after Kyle to "save him" and (1/2)
Tumblr media
first of all it's totally valid of you to feel that way, and I'm pretty sure you're not the only one
personally I'm blaming the piss-poor writing, especially on ruin johnson's behalf (jj and chris terrio aren't innocent either), and executive meddling with tros, and this is honestly a big reason why I'm actively not interacting with any sequel trilogy content
tbh I'm not entirely sure what I should answer to this or how you're expecting me to respond, but this is how I feel. sequels ain't shit in any way and all the characters deserved better writing

you really are about to unlock smth bc a) i have SO many thoughts on the sequel trilogy and b) im DESPERATE for a distraction so um. i think about the prequel trilogy and i really truly start to lose it. bc force awakens was SO GOOD. like remember the first time you watched it and you (me, but maybe you as well) were like? HOLY SHIT. it was obviously a new hope v2 but it was FRESH and NEW and there were cool characters that i CARED about. (1/3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HELL YEAH let’s get into it ok ok ok OPINIONS INCOMING.
TOTALLY with u on this. like the prequels make me mad about the wasted potential but tbh the sequel trilogy is just like. draining emotionally because they LOOK so fucking good. the force awakens WAS so so good, like very very star wars even if it was following the plot beats of anh. and then it just. tanked itself holy shit. like at least the prequels look bad, sound bad, it’s like a comical level of tragic. the sequel trilogy feels like having chalk dust spread all over my skin and then being put in an echo chamber of nails on a chalkboard 😔 at this point even tfa comes with a TINY lil bit of like 😞 just because i know what comes after but YES tfa is one of those star wars movies that just FEELS so fucking star wars it makes me unhinged. “THATS ONE HELL OF A PILOT” YEAH BITCH!!! IT IS!!!!! GAY PEOPLE!!!
the last jedi. a mess. i like certain rian johnson films but he should not be allowed to be anywhere near Star Wars. my main problem? (beyond the racism and romanticizing stalking and emotional and physical abuse?) it doesn’t FEEL like star wars. like. ok even in the darkest moments in mainstream star wars films they are SUPPOSED to feel hopeful. tlj feels like watching a train wreck in slow motion it’s just like shitty thing after shitty thing after shitty thing happening to the main cast. i think the casino planet’s design was a little lazy and WAY too underlit and rose’s character was pointless in the way she was shown in the movie. exhausting. the jokes were all on the wrong edge of disrespectful to the characters and the original star wars like luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder? appalling. not funny just there for shock value. everyone is out of character. everyone is stressed and miserable all the time. aside from things i didn’t really want to see but wouldn’t have argued with in a better movie (ie luke dying) it really was just a racist misogynistic mess. oh yeah did i mention how they did rey’s character dirty because she went from being a scrappy desert mechanic who’s a little dorky and just trying to find a family and a place in the galaxy to Bland White Girl Servicing a Man’s Character. that pales in comparison to how finn poe and rose’s characters were treated but HOLY shit. i walked out of the theater crying. tfa raised my expectations only to have tlj smash them down to the floor it was. hhhhh ok ok ok im trying to think if i liked anything from the movie. um. you were right it looked good! sound and score were great as usual. i did think poe’s conversation with hux at the beginning was funny. i really liked when leia used the force to come back to the ship (ik that was a controversial scene for some people but i did really like that scene. she deserves it). laura dern is cool i hated her character but in theory laura dern being leia’s lesbian boarding school friend is neat. but yeah im sorry i really REALLY didn’t like that movie we only saw it in theaters once it was so bad. :( i do agree with u abt the force mysticism being cool tho!
rise of skywalker. now maybe it’s because the bar was on the floor after tlj. but i actually liked it quite a bit. still kind of a mess. jj trying to retcon all of the stuff from the last movie because for some reason he wasn’t just allowed to do the whole trilogy. the pacing being a nightmare for the first half. the atrocious abuser-validating kiss at the end. but im gonna be real after having to sit through tlj i was happy enough just to see the main trio back together and finn and poe being treated with more respect to care much about that stuff. disney queerbaits me once again but that’s on me for clowning. i really genuinely liked the scene where rey passes the lightsaber to kylo i thought that was cool but it was overshadowed by the knowledge that the Kiss 🤮 was coming so i didn’t get to enjoy it like i wanted. ALSO hayden christiansen and all the other actors doing the voices in the scene where rey is fighting the emperor (who im pretty sure was only in there because RIAN put the trilogy’s intended big bad into a sparkly gold bathrobe and killed him off in the second movie but im not complaining about seeing ian mcdiarmid) were apparently on set in costume and force ghosts were supposed to protect her in like a big circle and what im saying is i feel robbed and cheated and feral
the only movie of the three i REALLY liked was tfa. now we’re back to How Would I Fix It. step one fire rian johnson. step two put JJ on the whole trilogy and HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE for having a plot planned out, or else get a different director TO DO ALL THREE MOVIES. none of this middle of the road “trying to appease both sides of the fandom” bullshit. kylo dies at the end and they DO NOT kiss and that is all the redemption he gets. if disney is claiming gay rep then they SHOW us ACTUAL gay representation. poe and finn kiss on screen and we don’t get a two second blurry background kiss between random characters. completely toss out whatever the fuck that plot was supposed to be in tlj and separate ros into two movies so JJ could actually DO the entire plot he had planned (instead of disney execs chopping down what was p much a four hour movie into two hours twenty two minutes which was SHORTER than the two hour forty minute cut jj reluctantly okayed but i DIGRESS).
god. what the fuck. anyways sorry for completely going off the rails but ty for sharing ur sequel trilogy opinions and ty for letting me rant sorry this got so long but ily!!! ❣️💕💝

(Totally not a judgement, I’m genuinely asking for your take and thoughts) but I’m curious why you believed that Kyle would be unredeemed in the trilogy? The entire saga has centered around the skywalkers, it was inevitable that the trilogy would end around his story. They also spent six movies centered around a character who did AWFUL things but was ultimately redeemed, I don’t see how someone could watch Star Wars and not see where they were going from the beginning
he didn’t earn a redemption. all he did was feel sorry for a moment that rey was dying and reverse that. he made no change. he made no effort. he didn’t make up for any of the atrocities he caused. oh boohoo poor mass murdering father killer, he’s sad. :(
cheap redemption.
KR is a villain. And he doesn’t deserve a redemption. If Darth Vader was given a redemption by being brought to balance with the force, KR never got there.
The whole thing made the story lesser.
Rey could have been the center of that epic story. And Finn, as the ex storm trooper. The nobody. The enemy. Instead we had an over privileged tantrumming brat who killed Han Solo be made the center of the story instead of the antagonist. We took the story from Rey, too, making her an adjunct to KR dumb story.
Look. If I tell you I don’t like a character, don’t challenge me on it, because what happens is that I then have to explain all the reasons I dont’ like a character and I do not like to do that. I don’t like telling people that their fave character sucks. KR SUCKS. He’s awful. I am actually horrified that so many women love him. He is a scifi representation of a real life kind of guy who is ruining our world. Abusive and obsessive and spoiled and selfish and entitled.
I am honestly disgusted with the Star Wars fandom over this and other things, including the racism that couldn’t conceive of a black hero or an interracial romance, (FinnRey was an OBVIOUS romance set up, and it was lovely,) and it’s one of the reasons why I never really posted much about SW or did meta on it.
TBH the whole star wars fandom is what made me decide that the 100 fandom problems were not just about this fandom, but rather about fandom in general and in fact all of western culture. That’s how badly I dislike the SW fandom at this point, and some of their hot takes on KR r8ylo, finn and the POC characters we finally got.

It’s hilarious that I spent like 4 years of my life obsessed with the star wars sequel trilogy and I have like, no friends from that fandom or really anything to show for it. I literally hated Star Wars fans so much tbh, I was only there to get info about the canon to use in developing my oc’s and to fight r*ylos on Twitter. I really don’t miss it.
Anyways Finn deserved better, Rey should’ve been a Skywalker, Finnrey should’ve happened, and Kylo Ren should’ve stayed evil. This is not an invite for debate. I refuse to argue about those movies anymore.

The Rise of Skywalker thoughts
Spoilers ahead.
Might as well start with the bad
- Finn deserved better. Obviously I always adore him for the amount of concern he shows toward Rey, but that shouldn’t be his sole role. His actions toward the end don’t redeem the rest of the movie - he just deserved better.
- Speaking of someone who deserved better, fucking Rose. Kelly Marie Tran should not have been forced into therapy because of trash ‘fan’ abuse to how instrumental she was in TLJ to then return to be such a passive character with no resolution.
- Who was in charge of the decision making when it came down to Poe’s spice runner past? Cause I have some words for them.
- That kiss was garbage and way too long. I’m only thankful I’d been warned so I could look away. I now understand children’s urge to say ‘yuck’ when people kiss.
- The whole idea of creating a strong lead female character in this universe for a new generation of little girls to look up to, just to have her turn around and forgive (and kiss) her abuser is wrong on so many levels. His few attempts at saving her don’t negate his attempts to hurt and kill her, most notably after she turned down his offer to join forces (which is a painfully familiar reaction to a ‘no’ from women nowadays). I don’t know how to explain that “His feelings were hurt” will never be a semblance of a valid reason for violence. Also, the power of suggestion used by Jedis doesn’t equate forcing your way into someone’s mind. It really just doesn’t.
Mention worthy but doesn’t fall in either good or bad exactly
- How dare they make us and the trio believe that Rey killed Chewie? The utter disrespect. That entire scene was a big WTF moment.
- Hux being the spy? Like, the spite in that man is strong and tbh I can’t blame him for his motives.
- Making Rey Palpatine’s granddaughter is... I don’t even know, but go off I guess.
- Thankful for Kylo’s redeeming arc, but really only for Leia and Han’s sake. His saving Rey’s life is repayment of a massive debt to the world, nothing more. His death was inevitable to anyone that’s been paying attention. He was never to be part of the trio. He was always Vader, both in his role to play in this trilogy and his fate.
Now the good
- The obvious couple dynamic between both Finn/Rey and Finn/Poe, and the subsequent bickering between Rey and Poe like they’ve agreed to this arrangement because they both love Finn so much but they’re still not 100% a fan of the other. A+ comedic relief.
- BB-8 remains an angel. C3P-O’s sacrifice. Droids in general tbh.
- Leia and Rey’s relationship. Luke’s guidance from the beyond. Rey rejecting her ancestry and dubbing herself a Skywalker with their ghostly approval.
- The trio hug at the end. Such a pure moment of love. They’re all so thankful and relieved and happy to be with one another again, to be safe. They get to start a new journey together and that’s beautiful.
- Rey becoming the grey Jedi and finally restoring the balance to the force. I knew she could do it, that precious cinnamon roll.
- A gay kiss, no matter how brief, on screen. The fact that it’s in the background doesn’t even matter - in fact, it makes it better. It’s not out of the ordinary, it’s not something that needs attention drawn to. It just is.
- Billie Lourd getting to wear her mother’s outfit from Return of the Jedi (even though so much was happening at that point that I missed it til Amber pointed it out to me).
- Leia’s portrayal. The fact that they didn’t go for CGI because they knew Carrie deserved better. I hope space mom was happy and proud of the closing chapter of her legacy.
Overall, the positive outweighs the negative. The conclusion to the Skywalker saga is one of hope for the future, for my precious trio. I was apprehensive going into it, but I’m at peace with the result. And I will watch it again.

TROS Review
Okay here is my extremely long (almost 4k words >.>) review of tros. And that’s without the 2k meta on redemption arcs I also have filed away lmao. First off: I am not leaving the kylux fandom. It’s not a good enough movie to warrant that. Second: I might make a post of things I wished we’d gotten later, but this is already WAY too long lmao. Warnings for spoilers, opinions, and general negativity
EXPLICIT RISE OF SKYWALKER SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
So. I have watched the thing. I went in knowing the spoilers and oh boy, am I glad I did. Still, overall this movie was… not great lmao. It’s messy and the pacing is off and there are some very weird and straight up Bad moments, but I’m not actually upset about it anymore. It’s more like ‘there’s a lot to unpack here’ except we’re not going to unpack it or even throw away the whole thing, it’s just gonna become that one box that’s still packed and untouched from when you moved 3 years ago. It’s there, but you rarely think about it beyond the occasional ‘maybe I should finally unpack that? Nah, too much effort’
I see a lot of people writing fix it fic and that’s totally valid but tbh… I don’t think it’s worth the effort for me. I think I’m just going to pretend it never happened and write my kylux the way I always have. Maybe I’ll do something with tros at some point, maybe some mean!Hux + redeemed!Ben because I’m awful lmao but for now, it hasn’t changed my plans at all. Which is actually a good thing tbh
Anyway. I’ll start with the good simply because there’s less of it lmao. Best thing about the movie? Everyone in it is looking like a fucking snack. It’s great. These people have always been hot, but this movie really nailed that. Also the trio stuff was fun and felt genuine. I LOVED the hints that Finn is Force sensitive, and I liked him in this movie even though I wish he got more story/time. I enjoyed Rey at the beginning, but her actions and plotline made less and less sense as the movie went on. Kylo was fun; I had gotten worried after that interview that said he’s calm now but he wasn’t lmao, like at all, so that was good. Also I didn’t like how Hux died but I’m endlessly grateful Kylo wasn’t the one to kill him. That might’ve actually ruined the ship for me
The visuals were excellent (save that strobing near the beginning; I’m not epileptic, but I had to close my eyes because it was too much). Some of the jokes hit will, as did some of the emotional bits (Chewie’s “death” was very well-executed and Rey’s scream broke my heart). Weirdly enough, C-3PO is kind of the heart of the movie, which I did not expect at all. Lando’s appearances were too brief but good. I also loved D-O a lot and he’s very cute. I liked seeing a bunch of new planets and environments, however briefly. The acting was also really great throughout on most accounts. I really enjoyed 2 of the Hux scenes (when he’s sitting in that board meeting making a face like he’s mentally eviscerating everyone in the room and when he gets so excited to finally get to blow something up and then Kylo shuts him up with the Force BUT WITHOUT HARMING HIM!!!)
That’s kind of it tbh. The movie overall is really messy. I’ve seen people say it feels like a fever dream and it really does. I’ve seen descriptions of people dreaming the plot of tros and they’re less weird. The pacing in the first chunk is way too fast and there’s way too much to take in. Then things get weird in the middle. Then, well, that ending. It feels like it’s trying too hard to be liked. It’s ‘joke’, ‘reference to past movie’, ‘joke’, ‘reference to past movie’, ‘mention of hope without showing it’, etc. etc. on and on throughout it. Some of those are fun, but it got tiring very quickly. And it made it impossible for me to suspend disbelief long enough to actually get into it
I also saw a lot of reviews saying if you didn’t like tlj, you would like this one. That was not correct. I disliked this for many of same reasons I disliked tlj, but it also managed to hold tfa’s weaknesses as well. Honestly, tros feels like the worst aspects of tlj mixed with the worst aspects of tfa, mixed with way too much nostalgia and then blended up with a good heaping of mania and desperation to keep it going. It tried so hard, wanted to be liked so badly, and you can feel that watching it. It doesn’t feel genuine
It also feels like every single movie in the ST was actually from a different trilogy. None of the 3 connect to each other. You can’t say tros is a successor to tlj or tfa; it’s totally on a different path, which I’m honestly not sure how they managed that. As much as I felt tlj wasn’t a true continuation of tfa, tros feels like its own trilogy mashed into one movie. There wasn’t one consistent plot or character thread to follow between all 3 movies
I think bringing palpatine back was the first fundamental mistake. It didn’t fit. And after creating Kylo and Snoke to be very specifically Not Sith, why bring the Sith back all of a sudden? Palpatine has had his day and he didn’t need this. No one did. Much as he was creepy as hell and that was well done, it didn’t feel right to have him there. Also, I really don’t like the implication he procreated at any point skdfjskldjk
As for Rey… I know I’m in the minority here, but I never found here to be a good narrative foil for Kylo. The connection between the two doesn’t really interest me at all (and this was one of the reasons I didn’t like tlj). It worked better if they were related, which was the biggest reason I was a proponent of Rey Skywalker, but that didn’t happen. The commonalities they have are just: 1) can use the Force, 2) have been lonely. The contrasts are: 1) light vs dark (sort of; this is less explicit in tfa and I miss that greyer view of the Force) and 2) had a family vs didn’t. And that’s pretty much it. In order for 2 characters to contrast and hit the ‘complimentary opposites’ sweet spot, you need much, much more than that. Finn has and always will be a better foil for Kylo and it’s a damn shame they abandoned that in tlj and even more so in tros. I have more thoughts on her that I’ll get to later too
I did like Rey in the beginning, but the longer it went on, the less I could rationalize her actions. Why is she doing that? Why is she trying to ditch her friends all the time? Why does she heal the cave snake? Why does she stab Kylo when he’s just become a non-combatant? Why does she heal him after? Why is she trying to reach out to the spirits of past jedi? Why did she Do That after she wakes up in the end? Why did she then seem to not even care that Kylo died right after? None of this is explained. Show, don’t tell, is great, but you can’t just make massive leaps like that. I didn’t get it. None of this felt like the character I’ve gotten to know over the last few years, nor did it feel consistent within the movie itself
That said, I want to discount one complaint I’ve seen: I got no impression she’s exiling herself on Tatooine at the end. It’s very clear she’s just doing a quick funeral ritual for Luke and Leia. The Falcon is still there, ready for when she’s done. I don’t get where the ‘she’s all alone in the desert again forever and ever’ comes from because it’s clear she’s not. It’s just a private ceremony (plus obvious fanservice). That’s it
For Finn: I liked that his character got to be a lot cooler here. I’m sad that he didn’t get half the attention and plot he deserved, but at least he wasn’t treated as a joke and a coward. My tlj complaint for Finn was that he went through the exact same arc he did in tfa over again; here, he doesn’t. He’s clearly grown into himself. That I liked. But damn, he was supposed to be a main character and he really got sidelined hard. It’s also very clear finnrey was planned at some point but didn’t end up in the final cut. The tease with that felt cruel tbh. He deserved to get to tell Rey he loved her on screen
And Poe: Poe was okay in this one. He felt to me like a different character in tfa and tlj, but this one managed to mesh the two characterizations well. He’s a bit of a hothead who doesn’t think (tlj), but he also really cares about people and is trying his best to lead (tfa). That was very successfully done. However. Poe is the one character with the most backstory. He’s got novels, comics, all of it. Where in the fuck is this history of being a spice runner in all that??? Sketchy as hell to make your one Latino character being a drug runner but you know. It also felt like a HUGE retcon of the one character that actually has fully revealed backstory. Also his thing with Zori was just weird and forced and exhaustingly heterosexual. Completely pointless tbh
As I was rereading this, I realized I forgot Rose but really, that’s because she does pretty much nothing. She has very few lines, never comes along. It’s like they forgot she was there. Or just didn’t care. It was really sad and a huge disrespect to everything KMT has gone through. Both her and her character deserved more
For Hux: I liked the 2 scenes I mentioned above, but other than that I was disappointed. I said this on twitter already, but the biggest crime they committed was getting rid of his fanaticism. Tlj may have turned him into a joke, but at least he was still a zealot. Here, it’s clear he gave up his last fuck like a year ago. It’s 9 am and he’s had 6 glasses of wine because he’s lost the will to live and it’s all pointless. Might as well fuck around and give the Resistance info that might lead to the end of everything he’s worked for his entire life because nothing matters and at least Kylo will lose. That’s dumb and violently ooc. I get him being a traitor to Kylo, I am DOWN for that, but not to the FO. He cares about the FO. He is fanatically devoted to the FO. That was ridiculous and wildly out of character. Also the FO is just gone in favour of Palpatine’s fleet as soon as Hux dies? What happened to them? Are they still out there? Who even knows? WHAT A FUCKING WASTE
Also Pryde? Fuck that guy and fuck JJ/LF/Disney for thinking it’s okay to have an old imperial kill Hux. Especially since the visual dictionary today confirmed Pryde knew Brendol and our Hux had known him for years. The possible implications are gross as fuck. If anyone was going to kill Hux one on one, it should have been Finn (with a wonderful stormtrooper rebellion arc involved) for the sake of both characters. I’m personally going to choose to believe Hux was wearing a blaster proof vest (thank you, Delilah Dawson, for putting those into Black Spire as canon) and faked his death. He’s living in blissful exile with Millie now or rebuilding the actual FO and ready to take over as the Emperor he deserves to be
Oh and Leia’s scenes did feel weird. I appreciate them trying to incorporate her, but it didn’t quite work. I feel like having her be offscreen yet present would’ve worked better than most of what they used. Some worked better than others though. I also have some Thoughts about her death but I’m about to get into the second half of the movie stuff and I’ll cover that there
Now Kylo. My darling, sweet, disaster boy. So. Okay. I knew no matter what happened his end would be controversial. And I have a lot of feelings on redemption arcs that can be distilled into one thing: if they’re written well, I like them, no matter how much bad the character has done; however, they are almost never written well enough. One of the first things I said coming out of tfa back in 2015 is ‘that’s going to be a disappointing redemption arc in a few years’. It was never about what ending I wanted (I actually favour something more grey than simply ‘oh he’s good now’ or ‘dies evil’, but that was way too ambitious for them to attempt so I never bothered to hope for it), because I knew it was coming. So this didn’t really bother me beyond the fact that it was too sudden. I do blame that partially on tlj, because it took Kylo from conflicted and torn apart to ‘yeah, I’m in charge now’, but I still think this was not the way to do it. Anyway. I have a 2k word rant somewhere about redemption arcs and when they work and when they don’t that I never posted and this is the much, much shorter version of that
Also. Okay. One more thing on this. So I usually don’t like redemption arcs because they’re written badly, but my least favourite redemption arcs are those that end in death. The only one I can think of that actually worked was Vader’s, but it doesn’t work as well with Kylo. Why? Because redemption is about making amends, not being punished. It’s about choosing to stop doing bad shit and instead to do good things to make up for what you’ve done. In self-sacrifice, not only does it send the message that the only path to redemption is death, but also it means you do literally one thing and then die. That’s it. One good deed, die, you’re done. That’s too fucking easy. True redemption is waking up every single day, for the rest of your life, and continuing to choose to do good. You know that evil is easier, feels better; you’ve done it. But you’re making the choice to keep doing good and to make amends instead. And you do that for years. Decades, even. That is SO MUCH harder to do than just one good thing and then immediately dying without showing if that change is lasting or not. That is how redemption is achieved: in making that choice not once, but again and again and again. So yeah. I didn’t like that. Death redemptions aren’t convincing to me because one choice is easy; consistently making that choice over the rest of your life is much, much harder
End of point: if they were going to redeem Kylo, he needed to live and work to make up for his past mistakes in order to make it impactful. It’s a damn shame he didn’t
Also: having Leia die for the sake of a man, son or not? FUCK THAT. And, even worse, if we follow the movie’s logic: Leia died trying to reach and save her son. Which lead to… him dying anyway?! Which means Leia’s death is meaningless and she died for literally nothing. Fuck that. FUCK THAT. What the fuck. That’s bullshit
Again on the redemption: Kylo just… kills his good friends the KOR without a shred of hesitation? Also the KOR literally never speak? And Kylo says literally one word (‘ow’) after the redemption? I admit, it was fun watching him fight and also watching him get hurt. If I ignore the context of it, watching him crawl out of the pit, scrabbling on the ground, so hurt he can’t even stand up? Fuck. That was good shit tbh. Also those big, desperate puppy eyes. They’re even worse with him as Ben instead of Kylo. Bravo to Adam for playing such a convincing sad boy. I hate that his scar got healed though; I liked it
Now. The whole ending and the plot stuff. Rey being a palpatine is… okay. Fine. I don’t like it but whatever. Seems like an unnecessary excuse to bring him back. Also Luke and Leia knowing? How? Luke knew Rey for literally 1 day. And how would Leia know? And why not tell Rey, who was so desperate for answers to her past when they thought Palpatine was dead? It makes no sense. It’s just very unnecessary. Not to mention the line “you’re a palpatine” is not a thing any real human being would ever say, jfc that was clumsy and unrealistic dialogue. I don’t mind Rey going a bit dark for some time, but this was not the way to do it. Also I was really hoping for a resolution beyond ‘dark siders dead, light sider alive’ because the dichotomous nature of the Force MAKES NO SENSE. Balance is needed. Leaving the only Force user alive a light sider means something dark will come again for the sake of it – Rey should’ve gone grey and tbh tfa made me hope this trilogy would end with all surviving Force users grey. So that was disappointing
Now. The kiss. Straight up: I do not ship it. I don’t mind if other people do, but I do get touchy when they go out of their way to prove there’s nothing inherently problematic about it. I ship kylux; it’s problematic as hell. That’s a good part of why I like it. So I’m fine with r*ylo shippers as long as they do the same. Problem is: most don’t and go around insisting it’s actually the highest romance possible while leaning on incredibly misogynistic and racist tropes to prop up that argument rather than accept their ship has some questionable parts to it (like kyluxers do). It’s more a problem with the fandom for me than it is the ship in theory. Still, I don’t like it and that’s what matters for this
The fact of the matter is it felt extremely sudden and out of place. The entire first half of the movie is Kylo being an aggressive, creepy asshole to Rey. I can theoretically entertain the idea of Kylo having feelings for her (though I don’t), but I cannot see the other way around, not when Rey has so many kind, wonderful people around her. Which is why this feels so weird. There was not enough build to it. I saw a cam clip off reddit before I went in, so I had accepted it was happening but I expected a lot more lead up to it to make it not seem so sudden. None of that was there. There was no build up or reaching of understanding so it reads exactly like those versions of it I dislike: there is nothing wrong with a man berating you and insulting you and attacking you and you should love him for it. That is not enemies to lovers. That’s just abusive bullshit
And then the death. Both of them. Rey dies from… what exactly? It’s never shown at all. And same with Kylo. The leaks said it was Force exhaustion, which a) why? And b) that’s not clear in the damn movie. You need to explain things!!!! And also that means Leia, Luke, Kylo, and Rey all died (even if one didn’t stick) from using the Force too hard. Meanwhile Darth Maul survives getting cut in half and Palpatine survives falling down a shaft in a space station that explodes 2 minutes later (and, you know, all the wacky Force shit he did in this movie too). The fuck? It’s dumb. I hate it
Also the dyad thing was weird. I know the early leaks had it more explained, then the leaks said they cut it, but now it looks like they left in 3 lines of dialogue with it and cut the rest. Again, explanations people! This is not a thing in previous canon! Maybe in the EU, but that’s not canon anymore! The fuck!!!! The idea is dumb and forced to begin with, but the execution made it worse
And now for the final, largest criticism I have. A confession: I am not a star wars fan by nature. I’ve always liked them, but I preferred other sci-fi more. I’m more of an invasive species who forcibly carved my way into this fandom ecological niche because I really loved Kylo lmao. But if there is one thing star wars is defined by, I don’t think it’s love or family or any of those common themes people say. It’s hope. That’s the thing star wars does well. Even when things are darkest, it keeps the hope alive and it makes you feel that. Good will triumph. There is reason to believe in heroes, even when they stumble
This movie is not hopeful. Rogue One, a masterful tragedy, still manages a message of hope despite every single lead character dying. This one doesn’t. And tbh, I think tlj missed on this a bit too (a lot of talk about having hope, not a lot of showing us reasons to be hopeful), but it was still there. Tros does not feel hopeful. The Skywalkers are all dead. Rey has decided to download the legacy (why? No idea! The whole message was ‘don’t be afraid of who you are’ and she just then decided to become someone else? Makes no sense!!!). Anakin’s sacrifice meant nothing because Palpatine came back (and it is CRIMINAL we never got an Anakin and Kylo scene). Han and Leia’s and even Luke’s (a bit) deaths meant nothing because yeah, Kylo turned back in the end, but then he died anyway. They all gave their lives to save him and it was all for nothing. He’s still dead. Palpatine is gone and so is his fleet, but what about the FO fleet? Are they still out there? Are there brainwashed stormtroopers still trapped in its clutches (also, they were so close with Jannah and Finn to adding depth here, but nope, the stormtroopers are still cannon fodder in every fight scene even though they’re literally slaves!!!!)? Who knows!
This movie only feels conclusive in that so many characters we love are dead. That’s it. There’s more questions than answers and so much left unresolved. There’s no sense of hope in it. There’s barely a sense of victory. It’s not satisfying. Even the celebration at the end feels weird and like it’s trying to force you to be happy. The jedistormpilot hug was good, but the lesbian kiss was such a cheap attempt at trying to appease people calling for representation. The moment with Lando and Jannah at the end was probably the most hopeful part of the movie and neither of them are lead characters
Idk. I know this is pretty negative. But I didn’t really enjoy this movie. Some parts were fun, or funny, or exciting, or emotional. But overall? No. This was not a satisfying conclusion for any of these characters, either the new or the old. They missed. Hard. Not one character was truly done justice. And it’s disappointing. But it’s over now and I have no intentions of letting it dictate my fandom activities. I’m just going to pretend it didn’t happen and call it a day

I know this is all about Dominoes and that's your main story right now, (and you're doing a fantastic job on that, the wait was 100% worth it) But have you looked back at some of your other stories at all? I'm still super interested in Espirit de Corps, personally. Finn didn't get nearly what he deserved from the Sequel trilogy in my opinion, so I'm really interested in your take on it.
OOOOO
I have been thinking about that fic too, tbh. I really do want to add more chapters–maybe not turn it into a giant project like dominoes but I do love that idea. I’ll get to it eventually, once my excitement for dominoes wears off a little ha! Keep an eye out, I’ll work on it soon.  I love Finn, and he deserves awesome stories.

hi :) you know... i keep thinking, what would the sequel trilogy have been like if finn was the main lead? if this was HIS story - defecting and fighting against the first order, rescuing all the stormtroopers who had been kidnapped and brainwashed and all them together, fighting back and the culminating with a finnpoe kiss. god, it could have been so incredible!!! sw really dropped the ball imo by not going in this direction with the film.
wow just thinking about this made me CRY. i would pay every penny i have to see this. i would spend the rest of my life watching that and nothing else
although tbh my dream concept is a trilogy focused not on one member of the trio and the ‘sidekicks’, but on every single one of them equally. so in each movie, as the main plot develops in the foreground and their relationships build, the background is dedicated to one character’s personal journey. exploring their backstory that is in some way relevant to the present, as well as their motivations and what drives them to fight. instead of bringing so much of the old trio and making it, again, their trilogy, rey, finn and poe all deserved not just a moment to shine, but a whole movie to show who they are. the development of each character wouldn’t have to stop throughout the other movies, it just happens in the background as the other character comes forward. and through all that time their relationships strengthen that by the end of it they’re stronger than they’ve ever been, ready to face the danger that they’ve been preparing for from the beginning. and the villain is just a villain. especially when his backstory is so bland and uninteresting that all he is worthy of is doing shitty things and waiting to be fucked up.
anyway just give me good character and relationship development without any of this convoluted nonsense where the villain ends up being the only star of the movie and gets redeemed for doing absolutely nothing but being a major dick for 2/3 of the movie
