to all the pilots i've loved before {poe dameron} - 3/4
part three: better half of a whole
summary: you’re in love with poe dameron. it’s both the most complicated and most simple thing in the galaxy - and it’s all shoved into a shoe-box under your bed, in the form of a thousand love letters. here’s to hoping he never finds them. (series masterlist)
warnings: language, mentions of injury
i'm so sorry this took me so long to write!! i got writer's block and then i was horribly busy with a thousand others things and sadly, i cannot prioritise fan fiction over real life duties. and i would know, because i've tried
enjoy!!

Poe didn't sleep for...well, it was probably days. Felt like years.
Dear trouble,
Every time he closed his eyes, your face would flash into his mind. The sound of your laugh echoing amongst the cries of war; the feel of your soft hands tracing the remains of battle scars and wounds. What if the hug you gave him before you left was the last? What if your slightly pained laughter at the shitty joke he'd made in the jungle the night before was all he had left? He cherished every memory he had of you but he loved you more.
I know you hate when I call you that, but it feels pretty accurate - because you do cause trouble, normally with me but more recently FOR me. Anyways, I never considered myself to be much of a letter writer, but then I saw yours and...fuck.
Love. What a funny fucking word, right? Said so easily, but meant so much. Something that felt so hard to find, but even more difficult to hold onto. His parents had found it and they'd kept it for so long, and he'd always wanted the same - nothing less, nothing more. Just the kind of unwavering, undying love that can survive a war and be happy with the domesticity that followed. The only difference between Poe and his parents was that they'd been fearless with every aspect of their lives, not withholding their ability to express feelings. Perhaps that's where he fell short. Shara had taught him a lot of things but she'd been lost before he taught her how to pull his head out his ass and just...say things how they were.
What am I even supposed to say? I love you too would be a start, because I obviously I do. I've always wanted to say it but I never wanted to risk what we had in case you secretly hated me, and now I'm going to live out the rest of my days regretting it.
The first that Poe managed to finally get some rest was four days after Leia had broken the news of your disappearance. He'd fallen asleep in his quarters, curled up into Finn's side and clutching a t-shirt of his that he'd left in your room - you'd borrowed it a few months ago, and it still smelt of you. It was a mixture of your everyday body fragrance and a little of engine oil. BB-8 was snoozing quietly in the corner and for the first time in days, Poe's jaw and shoulders weren't tense and clenched.
The little robot did stir, however, when he got a comms system message from Leia. He was awake immediately, cruising across the room and crashing straight into the nearest human he could find - and it was at that point that Finn regretted leaving his leg dangling off the side of the bed. He jumped awake, brown eyes finding the droid peering up at him.
You're not just my best friend. You're my partner in crime, my soulmate and you know that twin flame bullshit that Rey always go on about? You're probably that too because we're both flaming hot. You're the better half of this whole. You and me.
"Poe is sleeping, buddy," he quietly said.
"There's a message from the general," BB-8 beeped back.
Poe suddenly woke up at that - it could have been any message, and certainly not one about you, but something in his gut told him otherwise. If it hadn't have been, Leia would have left it til morning, or not even bothered him at all in his current state.
"What?" the pilot asked. "What is it?"
"They're back, in the med-"
Poe didn't give him a chance to say anything else, because he was already up and out the door - jacket unzipped, boots half unlaced, hair sticking up in a thousand different directions.
And even though he hadn't slept for days, he was running for his dear fucking life. The medical bay was right on the other side of the base and he didn't care. You were there - in what state, he didn't know - and that was all that mattered. He was just wanted to be with you, beside you, and he never planned on leaving.
If I see you again, I'm not gonna hide it anymore. I love you and you deserve to know that. I'm gonna give you the fucking world, I promise.
Poe skidded around the corner, stopping his tracks when he saw you across the room. You looked tired - far past it, in fact - and his entire body tensed when he saw the bruises on your arm and up your neck. Still, he took comfort in the fact that he knew you put up a good fight. You'd sparred together enough times and given him enough bruises to last a life time.
There was a slight oof as someone crashed into the back of Poe (Finn's subtle way of announcing his arrival). He placed a hand on his shoulder, shoving him forward slightly. It was clear that Poe was in a state of shock - at your loss, at your declaration, and even more at your return - because the last few days had changed everything.
Everything he'd ever wanted was about to come to fruition. No pressure.
"Go to them," Finn murmured.
With that, Poe took a few steps forward - you met him half away across the room, chests colliding with enough force to knock down an ATAT. He wound his arms you, pulling you towards him with one hand tangled in your hair and the other holding your back. He clung to you, tears in his eyes and entire body shaking, almost as though he was using the feeling of you to act as a reminder that this wasn't a dream. You were here. You were back. Perhaps a little worst for wear, but alive and standing all the same.
I don't know how I'll say it. Am I meant to just blurt it out? I've never said it to anyone before, so...what the fuck am I meant to do? Normally, I'd come to you for advice on this sort of this but that feels a bit counter intuitive.
"Hey, Poe," you gently murmured.
"Hey, trouble," he let out a shaky laugh, pulling back from the hug to clutch your face in his hands. "You're alive. You're here-"
"- yeah, I'm here," you grinned.
"What happened?" he pushed. "If I ever find those First Order bastards, I swear it's on site."
"They were trying to shoot us out the sky, so we had to lay low on a random moon for a few days, but the residents of said moon were not very friendly and - you know what? It doesn't matter," you leant into his touch, relishing the feeling of his hands against your skin. "I'm here and that's what's important."
"I was so scared," Poe admitted. "And they had me search your room for back up plans and-"
You froze.
"You...you searched my room?" you stuttered. "What did you find?"
The main thing is, I AM gonna tell you. I promise. Just...please come back.
Love, Poe
Poe's eyes widened - maybe now wasn't the best time to break the news. You were bleeding from your head and hadn't slept for days. To spring it on you before you were even cleaned up felt a bit unfair. His worst fears had been avoided, so he didn't mind waiting just a little longer.
"Nothing," he forced a smile. "C'mon, I'll clean you up."
Taking your hand in his, Poe lead you towards one of the beds. He was hardly a medical expert, but he'd been through enough cuts and scrapes to have a basic understanding of stitches. And luckily, your injuries didn't look too bad. It was more just the fact you had them in the first place that hurt him.
What if he'd gone on the mission with you? Or convinced you to stay? Fuck, he would have gone in your place if he knew what was going to happen. The last few days had been the worst of his life and he almost felt responsible for what had happened to you. Your pain was his pain, and he felt it in every fibre of his being.
But, of all things, at least he knew what love was now - and if you had never have gone MIA, he never would have gone looking in your room, and he never would have found those letters. It felt like a bit of a dick move to call them a blessing in disguise but his mother had always taught him the value of looking for silver linings. The last week had been one giant thunderstorm. There had been no breaks in the rain, or sun peaking through the clouds. It had just been darkness and thunder, but it was all beginning to clear now.
What was it that Shara had said when Poe was a kid? Things have a funny way of working out. This was all a testament to that, and also to the fact that she always seemed to be right.
Poe's hands moved gently as he stitched up the cut on your forehead. They were still steady as they moved, brown eyes occasionally moving down to meet yours. He always smiled when they did.
"There we go," he said. "That shouldn't scar, but if it does, it would make you look like a bad-ass, so..."
You chuckled slightly. "Thanks, Dameron."
"You don't have to thank me," he quietly murmured, running a thumb over your cheek. "I'm just glad you're back."
"Right," you grinned. "What did you do whilst I was gone?"
Cried. Read those letters. Cried some more. Wrote a letter myself, then cried on that too.
"I just...I caught up some on some reading," he forced a smile. "C'mon, let's go to my quarters. I have some bactaspray there for those bruises."
Poe took your hand in his again and helped you up off of the bed - you seemed okay to walk, but he didn't let go. He needed to feel you, to know that you were there. He was worried you might float away into the galaxy and disappear all over again if he didn't cling onto you.
And for you, the feeling of his warm hands against yours was a welcome relief after a long few days. You were trying to push the pain and the incoming nightmares to the back of your head, and it was much easier when Poe was beside you. You already knew that he was going to make you sleep beside him that night. Being on the same wavelength so often was a great feeling.
Poe hadn't thought about tidying his room - why would he? He'd been so preoccupied with you, and finding you, that he'd barely considered the idea. Besides, it wasn't like you were going to care about the shoes by his door, or the letters on his desk, or the unfolded laund-
- fuck.
The letters.
Your box of letters, which was sat on his desk, which was right by the door.
By the time he'd even registered that they were there, you were already half way into the room. In a somewhat half-arsed attempt to shove them back in the box and toss them to the side, Poe dove forward and knocked them into an open draw, slamming it shut.
When he turned around and saw your wide eyes, it was clear he was a little too late. You'd already seen them.

until the poets run out of rhyme
Tumblr media
pairing: poe dameron x f!reader (modern au)
summary: poe and the reader go out for drinks with their friends, but soon have to make a detour in their evening plans. (based on the prompt: if you want to leave, we can)
word count: 4k ~
warnings: swearing, mentions of anxiety, sensory overload
You curl and uncurl your feet, burying your toes into the plush of your carpet, gnawing on your bottom lip as you stare at the dress on your bed. In just under an hour, your long-time best friend Poe Dameron will be showing up to pick you up to take you to Maz’s for drinks with Snap, Jess, Kare and Sura to celebrate Sura’s most recent journalism award.
You aren't as close to them as you are to Poe - they were more his group of friends rather than your shared one of him, Finn and Rey - but they’d welcomed you with warm arms long ago, much like how your group of friends - Kaydel, Beaumont and Rose - welcomed Poe.
Which means that you really want to go to Maz’s bar and enjoy drinks with him, his friends, and celebrate Sura’s big moment because you know how much ass she kicks at her job and just how hard she's worked to get where she is today. But familiar icy ribbons of anxiety have coiled in your gut, spilling up and twisting around your heart at the idea of going out.
You close your eyes, breathing out slowly. Briefly, you remember something Poe once said, half as a joke, half as a genuine reassurance to himself, and you mumble it out loud to yourself in the empty room, “Happy beeps. You can do this.”
It doesn’t erase your anxiety, but the memory of your best friend is enough to bring a sense of comfort to you, and you grab the dress with a gentle smile on your lips to get dressed. The skirt flares out at your knees, and is a deep shade of red, with a sheer neck and sleeves. It’s comfortable, and once you add a pair of flat heeled ankle boots to the look, you think you’re just about ready.
You grab your purse and duck out of your bedroom into your living room, stopping by the bookcase to make your decision on which book to take. Finn and Rey were at first baffled by this trait of yours (then immediately started joking about how you really were perfect for Poe), but you never left home without a book within reach. Most of the time, you didn’t actually get a chance to even read it, but knowing you had one...helped your nerves. It was like carrying a miniature hug in your purse.
It took you longer than you expected to land on a decision: by the time you’re shoving your selected paperback into your purse, there’s a familiar knock on the door. Your heart does a quick somersault in your chest, and you bound to the door. You peer out the peep-hole, to see Poe standing in the hallway, waving a cheeky hello in your direction.
You grin as you unlatch the door, opening it with a swing. Your greeting flees from your mind as you take in the sight of him. It’s not so different from his usual attire, but he’s ditched his usual tee-shirt and beat-up leather flight jacket for a black button-up and black leather jacket. The jeans, however, are the same.
“Wow,” Poe breathes, beating you to the compliment as he gawks at you. “You look...really pretty.”
Heat rushes to your cheeks as you duck your head, giving a slight twirl so the skirt will flare out around you as you spin. When you come back to a stop in front of him, Poe’s still got that gobsmacked expression on your face that sends butterflies soaring in your gut. “You think?”
“I know,” Poe affirms, composing himself. “You ready for this?”
You nod once, “Just let me get my purse, I forgot it on the counter. You can come in, you know. You don’t have to wait outside every time, you’re not a vampire.” You don’t look behind you as you move through your apartment, but you hear the door click behind Poe as he follows.
“I could be, you don’t know for sure.” Poe calls.
You bark a laugh as you pull your purse over your shoulder, twisting to face him as he crosses the room to you. “Mhm, I’ve seen you doing your hair in the mirror before, you have a reflection. You love the sunlight, and you always eat the garlic bread I make when we have dinner parties.”
“I could be a recent vampire?” Poe tries with a lopsided smile, and you giggle again. His eyes light up at the sound; he loves hearing your laugh but especially loves it when he’s the cause of it. He’ll be purposely ridiculous for it any day of the week. “Got your book?”
You pull it from your bag to show him the cover, and he clicks his tongue appreciatively, “Good taste.”
"I always have good taste in books.”
Poe hums in response, taking a step closer to you. Moments like these come easily, where the rest of the world just...fades away until it’s just the two of you. It drives your friends up a wall, but you couldn’t care less when Poe looks at you like you’re his whole world and his lips are quirked up in a little bit of a smirk as he banters back. “I don’t know about,” he says in a low tone, dragging his gaze from the cover back up to your face and you swear for just a moment he pauses on your lips, "you like horror novels.”
Your heart thundering against your ribcage for a much different reason now, you fight to keep your eyes in a safe zone. The way he’s looking at you makes every possible response you could normally think of fly right out of your mind, as your mouth goes dry. Finally, you take another step forward, challenging him with a smirk of your own, "That’s because I’m not afraid to read them like some people, Dameron.”
“I’m not afraid,” Poe protests automatically, the argument a familiar one, but neither of you are really focused on running through the motions of it right now.
The room seems to crackle with energy and potential around you, and part of you so desperately wants to take that leap, but the other half is terrified that if you do, then you’ll lose this magic, this friendship you’ve nurtured with Poe for the last five years. So you dip your head at the last second, folding first.
Breaking out of his own trance, Poe takes a slight step back before he holds out his arm to you, “Ready?”
There’s that spike of nerves again, but you brave through it, nod once and loop your arm through his. “Let’s rock and roll,”  you hesitate just a moment as you think of the moment before and how easily the two of you still managed to fall into each other’s personal space again. Maybe you really don’t have anything to worry about. “Oh and Poe?”
“Yeah?” He asks as you step out into the hallway, cocking his head towards you.
“You look pretty wow too,” you tell him, leaning forward to press a kiss to his stubbled cheek.
-
It goes well, for the most part. The others grabbed a booth in the corner of the bar, placing you away from the brunt of the noise and crowd. You knew this wasn’t a coincidence: Snap, Kare, Jess and Sura were always accommodating for your anxiety, and it wasn’t as though they didn’t have their own to contend with either.
Poe leads you to the booth with a hand on the small of your back, a wide grin on his face as he nears his friends. You drink in the sight of his joy, as you do every time you meet up with them, in between reunion hugs with everyone. Then, the two of you settle into one side of the booth, you at the wall and Poe sliding in next to you, his arm winding around behind you on the back of the seat, as he always did, but you surprise him by keeping one hand on his thigh the entire time.
The conversation comes easily between the six of you, laughter flooding through the corner as you knock back cheers for Suralinda’s accomplishments. By the time you’re halfway through your first (and only) drink, you’ve nearly forgotten about your apprehension.
It comes back quickly before you hit the bottom of the glass when a new, far rowdier group enters the bar. They aren’t doing anything malicious, but their loud rumbles and hollers are too much combined with the rustle of silverware and clinking of glasses and the noise of the pool table and the radio blaring above, and the tv stationed by Maz’s bar.
You tense up as you try to tune out the rest of the noise to focus on your friends, but you can already feel your nerves beginning to fray, and you just want to run away to somewhere quiet, and that only frustrates you more because you want to be here, in this corner and -
“Hey,” Poe’s voice was but a concerned whisper to get your attention and it cuts through some of the haze in your mind. You turn to him, opening your mouth to...say what you have no idea, but recognition flashes behind his eyes. Poe has an incredible sense for when you’re getting overwhelmed. “If you want to leave, we can.”
You want to protest, because you’ve barely spent any time here, but before you can, someone drops a glass from across the room and you jump at the sound. “Alright,” Poe says as he locks eyes with Jess, tilting his head toward the door and jerking his thumb in your direction as Snap, Kare and Suralinda continue their argument over a show they all watch. Jess nods in understanding, and then Poe’s standing up and offering you his hand.
You take it after a beat of hesitance, and then he guides you away from all the noise, back outside toward his car. He was one of two designated sober drivers of the night - Snap being the other one.
You slide into the passenger seat, Poe closing the door behind you, before coming around to sit in the driver’s seat. He twists around to face you. He wants to reach out for you, but he knows sometimes touch can make things worse when you’re overwhelmed. “Better?” he asks.
“Yeah, thank you. Sorry for messing up the evening.” You tilt your head back against the seat-rest, eyes closing with exhaustion. This is far from the first time you’ve all had to cut an evening short or take a breather from things, but still...you were hoping tonight would go by smoothly for the celebration.
“You didn’t mess anything up,” Poe assures you, giving you a pained look that you miss. He hates how you blame yourself for things that aren’t even your fault, how you seem to think taking care of you is some horrible burden he and the others have to deal with. He can’t even begin to count how many times you’ve taken care of him when he needed it, how in the last five years, you’ve come to understand and know him in ways that so few could, that you knew exactly what to do to calm and ground him.
How many times had you held him after he woke up from a nightmare while you were staying at his apartment, or him at yours? How many mornings had he woken up feeling safe and loved, still in your arms in the morning light? He could only hope he made you feel the same way. “We’ve all had a great time already, we got to celebrate Suralinda’s big moment, and if you want, when you’re ready, we can go back in for more fun - and if you’re not up for that, then that’s okay, too.”
You exhale deeply, focusing on his words and the sincerity behind them. You know it’s true - really, you do. You know it’s not as big of a deal as your brain is trying to make it out to be, you know that your brain can lie to you, make shit up that simply isn’t true to make you feel alone, but sometimes it’s hard to rationalize through that, sometimes it’s hard to remember what’s true and what isn’t.
But Poe knows that.
You turn your head to face him; Poe’s half washed in golden light from an overhead streetlight, half cloaked in shadows, and the smile on his lips is rueful. You don’t know how you lucked out at having such an amazing best friend in your life, but you’re suddenly choked up with some soft, overpowering emotion as you realize - not for the first time - how much he means to you.
You duck your head. “Thank you, for always having my back.”
Poe reaches out for you, catching your wrist lightly and his touch burns in the most wonderful way as he grazes his palm down over yours, interlocking your fingers together. “Thank you for the same,” he tells you, before adding with a lopsided smile, “what are best friends for, right?”
You shake your head, a laugh bubbling from your lips before you can help it, and you echo his words in agreement, “What are best friends for?”
-
You head back into Maz’s long enough to say goodbye to everyone and congratulate Sura again, and then you’re climbing back into Poe’s car. You kick off your shoes into the floorboard, tucking one leg under you as Poe offers to drive you around town to help clear your head.
Most nights when you’d go on drives like this, the car would be filled with songs from your favorite playlist and the sound of you and Poe singing along to them. However, tonight it’s filled with a gentle silence occasionally broken by Poe filling it with stories from work that week: he worked at Alderaan Books, a small mom and pop store that’d been a staple in the town for years. It was run by the gentle powerhouse of a woman, Leia Organa, who’d inherited it from her parents Bail and Breha.
Alderaan Books was entirely the reason why you even had Poe in your life. When you moved into town five years before, you’d decided to familiarize yourself with the various shops and stuff. Eventually, a storm had caught you, and the bookshop was the nearest dry place within quick walking distance. You’d burst inside, shivering and soaked from head to toe, and then there was Poe: with black as midnight curls and twinkling eyes and a soft, friendly smile as he offered you a towel to dry off with.
You’d spent the rest of the afternoon in the shop, talking with him - because of the storm, you were pretty much the only customer there - getting to know him. By the time he was offering you a cup of coffee and a book recommendation, you knew Alderaan Books and Poe Dameron would become an important part of your life here in this town, and you hadn’t been wrong.
Eventually, he’s turning down the road that leads to his apartment and you feel the rest of the tension in your body deflate. You didn’t fancy the idea of going back to your own apartment, empty and quiet as it was, after tonight. Which Poe would’ve known because you’ve asked to stay with him after being overwhelmed for that exact reason before; still, something warm stirs in your chest as he does so instinctively.
He does spare a glance at you, to double check if that’s alright, and you give him a grateful nod, reaching out to squeeze his hand. He twists his so that your palms are flush against each other, and he interlocks your fingers together.
(He wishes he could pull your hand up to his lips, press a kiss to your knuckles, and maybe in another life, he could. But in this one, he doesn’t).
You’re both practically leaning against each other as you walk up the stairs to his apartment, your shoes in your hand, as Poe tells you about a book he’d found in their stock that he thought sounded up your alley. This was, in a way, a love language for the two of you: sharing music and books were as much a staple in your relationship as your banter and lack of personal space.
As you reach his door, Poe’s still describing the plot as detailed on the back cover as he unlocks it to let you in. You smile gratefully at him as he holds it open for you, letting you in first. Immediately, you look around the living room to see if you can spy Poe’s beloved cat, Beebee, but he doesn’t seem to be in the room - probably curled up on one of Poe’s bookshelves in his bedroom, since that was one of Beebee’s favorite haunts.
You collapse onto Poe’s couch as he heads to the kitchen to start boiling some water in the electric kettle. You sit your ankle boots neatly between the space between the couch and the little table beside it, and then crash back against the soft pillows.
“Why is your couch so comfortable?” You call to the kitchen. Poe leans out from the window frame that bridges the kitchen to the living room, his curls falling haphazardly over his brow at the sudden movement.
“Because I have excellent taste,” he reminds you, before he pulls his body back into the kitchen. The ridiculousness of the man that is your best friend makes you laugh, and you slowly haul yourself from the comfort of the cushions to pad to the kitchen. You’re still a little worn out from the evening, but there’s a quiet thrum of energy in you now that you’re somewhere that feels safe and cozy.
He’s pouring water into two different mugs for you both, tea tags hanging loosely at their sides. Your heart warms as you realize he’s pulled out your favorite mug - a dull orange one that you always used for tea, because you’d unconsciously adapted a system at his house and had a different mug for coffee and tea - from the cabinet. When Poe turns around, there’s a gentle smile on his face as he motions at the mugs. “They’ll be done in about four minutes,” he announced unnecessarily, because you knew how long it took for his favorite brand of tea to steep.
Wordlessly, you pull your phone from your dress’ pocket, and pull up your music player. You press the shuffle button and sit the phone down on the counter, letting the room fill with soft tunes as you wait for your tea, leaning against the counter and letting your head roll back and forth.
Poe’s hand skims down your arm, leaves goosebumps in his wake, “You feeling better?”
“Yeah, I am. Just kind of restless now, you know?”
“Well,” Poe drawls out, his eyes flicking over to your phone and back at you, a mischievous smile lighting up his handsome features, “we’ve got some time...and you so helpfully gave us a soundtrack,” he presses his hand over his heart and gives you a small bow, flourishing that same hand out to you in offering, “would you allow me this dance, sweetheart?”
Your cheeks warm, a smile rising to your own face and you accept his hand. “I’d like that a lot.”
He tugs you closer to him, linking both your hands together, and you both begin to dance around the kitchen - clumsy, dorky movements that follow the beat of an Abba song, laughing each time one of you bump into each other or step on each other’s feet. Eventually, you collide against each other, still swaying and bouncing to the music, and you rest your head against Poe’s shoulder.
As the first song fades out, your shuffle immediately begins the next — which just so happens to be “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. Poe shifts into a slower dance and you follow his lead. He presses his nose against the side of your head, and you can feel his breath against your earlobe as he begins to murmur the lyrics of the song.
Like earlier in your apartment, the air between you grows weighted. This isn’t just him singing along to a song, the way he’s reciting the lyrics feels like a confession: a gentle one, one that you could easily ignore if you wanted to - and a thrill of anticipation thrums under your skin as you realize you don’t want to ignore it. You’re not sure you’ve ever known someone so beautiful before: not just in appearance, but in soul. He practically radiates light and love, a constant source of warmth and sunshine in your life that you’ve come to rely on. You can’t imagine life without him: he’s who you picture beside you whenever you think of the future: late night car rides with him, bickering together in the kitchen, cuddling on the couch reading together. He’s your best friend, he’s -
You swallow hard. He’s more than that. You want him, more than anything, and it’s suddenly imperative that he knows that.
“Our tea should be done,” Poe says when the song comes to a close, pulling back to search your eyes for your reaction.
“They were done by the time Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! ended, Poe.”
“So they’re really strong cups of tea now,” Poe offers with a lopsided smile. His hands have found a home on your waist, and their warmth seeps through the fabric of your dress. When you still don’t move out of his arms, but rather shift closer to him, placing your hand on his cheek, his breath hitches just slightly before he says your name.
“Yeah?”
He opens and closes his mouth a few times, like he’s internally debating something. Finally, he whispers, “You’re beautiful.”
“So are you,” you reply as you run your thumb along his cheekbone. You lean up on your tiptoes, searching his gaze for any signs of hesitance at your closeness, then you finally ask what you’ve wanted to for a fucking long time: “Can I kiss you?”
“Please,” Poe replies but he doesn’t move any closer to you, instead just asks, “You sure about this?”
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life,” you tell him lowly and the heated look he gives you in return, paired with a dazzling smile you want to remember for as long as you live, is enough to give you the courage you need to crash your lips against his.
He gathers you up in his arms to draw you closer, a warm expansive hand sliding up your spine,to cradle the back of your neck as his other hand grips your hip, fingers bunching around the fabric of your dress. You move your hand from his cheek up into his curls, dragging your fingers through them experimentally, dragging a hum from low in his throat that you want to pull from him again.
You move forward, intending to nudge him back against the kitchen counter, but Poe has other plans, and at the last second, he spins you around so that the counter presses against your back as he presses flush against you. He pulls away from your mouth to pepper kisses everywhere he can reach: your brow, the tip of your nose, your eyelids, your jawline, and finally, your neck, where he stops and stays, burying his face in the crook of it as you hold him against you as you try to catch your breath.
Eventually, with one last brush of his lips against your skin, he straightens and fixes you with a bashful expression. You loop your arms around his neck, smiling up at him, feeling warm and happy. “Poe?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
He leans down again, and when your lips meet a second time, you can feel his smile pressed against your own, as he murmurs, “I love you too.”

The Force Awakens Chapter 2: Hidden Force || P.D.
| The Force Awakens Masterlist |
Warnings: TFA Spoilers, torture, cursing
Word Count: 2.8k
After following Poe Dameron to the planet of Jakku in order to retrieve a map that supposedly leads to Luke Skywalker, a series of unthinkable events ensues and you’re left, stranded on a planet you know next to nothing about. After finding Finn, the stormtrooper you and Poe escaped with, BB-8, the droid who holds the map, and Rey, a girl who is surprisingly strong with he Force, you four embark on a mission full of long-lost family members, life-threatening situations, and tricks played by the Force. A mission that will change the fate of the galaxy.
[A/N]: Ignore any typos I’ll edit those out in the morning 😭 But y’all need to bully me into writing more please
Tumblr media
“How’s mom?” Those words had been echoing in your head for the past however many hours you’d been in here. How could you have been so stupid? Maybe Mom was right. Maybe his training outweighed how strong you were in the Force. Hell, you couldn’t even brainwash the troopers that brought you in, let alone fight him in a lightsaber battle—
You hear the doors slide open and brace for whatever new form of torture they’d expose you to, but much to your relief, you see Poe—beaten, bruised, and bloody—but still your Poe.
“You look like hell,” he mutters with a grin, and you note the fact that he had four troopers escorting him. Little shit must’ve done something to up his guard count. Just the thought of it makes you smile a little.
“Look who’s talking.” You were lying. He looked hot—hotter than normal, you’d daresay. The white suits throw him at your feet and you reflexively try to bend down to help him up, but your restraints don’t allow you to do so. “Why’d they bring you here?”
“Hell if I know,” he shrugs, groaning as he tries to sit up—something the shackles made it much harder to do.
Before you two can continue your witty exchange, the doors slide open once again, and you know who it is before you even move your eyes from Poe. You let Ben—Kylo? (you’d always hated that name)—make his dramatic entrance and walk over to the two of you.
“Where’s the drive?”
“Hell if I know,” you copy Poe’s last sentence, hearing the pilot stifle a chuckle. Ben’s gaze immediately snaps down to Poe but you practically stare a hole into his helmet, not wanting to let him hurt Poe. He senses it—through the Force or whatnot, that isn’t your concern at the time—and turns his attention back to you.
“The drive.”
“I don’t have it, Ben.” You see Poe look at you and then Kyl—Ben, out of the corner of your eye, his face bathed in confusion.
“Ben?”
“Poe, meet my twin brother—”
“Stop it,” he instructs, but you can’t give a damn.
“—Ben. Solo.” You know he’s a mess of anger under that mask; you can feel it. And call it stupid, but that was exactly your plan. To get him so angry that he’d lose it, letting you see what his true abilities were.
Because fuck being on the frontlines. You finally understood that you were needed here, fighting the battles that nobody else could.
There’s the sensation of fingers curling around your throat, and you immediately regret your plan, trying to hold your breath for as long as you could instead of letting yourself panic and fight against it. Because you couldn’t. You choke a little bit, beginning to see black spots in your vision before squeezing your eyes shut, feeling yourself slowly start to slip away from consciousness.
“What the hell are you doing? Let her go!” Surprisingly, Ben does let go at Poe’s pleads, leaving you gasping for air and trying to focus on the situation at hand as fast as you could.
Poe. He was going for Poe.
Breathe. You can’t do anything if you’re unconscious.
Poe.
His screams shatter the silence that only your gasps were accompanying, which only panics you more. You’ve barely regained your breath before trying to find Poe through your haze, willing yourself to stay awake no matter how much pain it would cause you.
At least you could put up a fight against Ben. Poe was helpless.
“Ben, stop it!” Poe’s yells continue, and you can practically feel the pain he’s going through. “Ben, I said stop it!” You hear a thud and Poe’s screams stop immediately—you suddenly feel drained for absolutely no reason, like your oxygen supply was being cut off but you could breathe again.
“What… What did you do?” You hear Poe gasp, and you look down at him clutching his head, about to ask him what he means until you see Ben struggling to get up a few meters away from Poe, collapsed on the ground.
What the hell just happened?
Oh Maker. You did that.
“I don’t— I didn’t—”
“We have to get out of here. He’s going to hurt you.”
“No shit—”
“No, I mean he’s going to hurt you. He knows things about you that he shouldn’t—”
“What the hell are you talking abo—” Your head is suddenly thrown back, a sick bang resounding around the room as a result. You’re defenseless for now—when you’d look back on it, you’d realize that was bliss in the moment. You couldn’t hear anything except for muffled yells and a sharp ringing, and your vision had gone almost completely black—it was an escape for a few seconds before Kylo started to probe your mind.
And that was hell on its own.
You didn’t even remember what happened—it was all just a blur. It was like a knife being slowly pushed into your head, with you powerless to stop it. You couldn’t separate your screams of anguish from Poe’s yells of begging Kylo to stop.
But one thing you couldn’t understand—the memories of Poe flashing right in front of you. Why was Kylo looking for things about Poe instead of the location of the drive?
“No, I mean he’s going to hurt you. He knows things about you that he shouldn’t—”
That was why.
The knife is sharply ripped from your head and you’re not sure what hurt worse—experiencing the pain or being free of it.
You could recognize Poe yelling in the background trying to get your attention, but you just didn’t have enough energy to respond. The idea of trying to do what you did before to Kylo—throwing him on the ground somehow so that you and Poe could have a few seconds of peace—came to you, but if you were too tired to speak, there was no way you’d be able to channel the Force to do anything.
Through your blurry field of vision, you can see Kylo say something to the troopers then leave, and a few moments later, you have just enough strength to start to process what you were hearing.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
“Poe, you… you have nothing to be sorry about,” you breathe, swallowing thickly and wondering if Kylo had done some permanent damage to him. If he had, there was no way you’d let your brother live.
“I gave him the location of the drive.” Your heart stops.
“You did what?” You find the energy to look at him, but even then, you just can’t seem to process everything at once.
“I told him where it was, he was going to kill you—”
“That was his plan, Poe.” He stops abruptly. “He could kill us and we’d have no regard for ourselves over the Resistance. But the moment he knew that we’d do anything to keep each other safe, that… that was the weak link.” You’re not sure if you just exposed the fact that you had feelings for him, but that was the last thing on your mind.
“So… So you’re saying the fact that we care about each other could be the reason for the entire Resistance’s downfall?”
Tumblr media
“Get up.” You’re awoken by the unmistakable voice of a trooper—the heaviness of the modulator gave it away.
“I can’t exactly just walk out of here,” you quip tiredly, a bit glad to know that the sleep you’d fell into after the stormtroopers escorted Poe out of the room had given you back your usual self.
If you’d ever be back to your usual self after being tortured and seeing the love of your life tortured by your brother, the both of you helpless to stop it.
The trooper removes you from the restraints of the chair, giving you a second to rub your sore hands together. You look up at him while he re-chains your hands in front of you, staring through his helmet as if you’d be able to look through it if you tried hard enough.
You’d seen him somewhere. There was no way you were mistaking him for one of the other thousands of white suits you’d encountered; something just felt… different.
Jakku.
That’s where you knew him from. You’d sensed someone else Force-Sensitive, but their signature wasn’t as strong in the moment, nor was it the one you were focusing on.
“Hey. You were on Jakku, right?” He hesitates—even if it’s for a split second. “You gotta get me and the guy that came in with me outta here. You saw what Kylo did to those innocents. We can save others just like them, but not if we’re held captive or dead.
No response.
You sigh, at least having given it a shot. You’re thinking of other ways to make a run for it without being killed as he leads you down the brightly-lit black and white hallway—no wonder their stormtroopers were depressed. There wasn’t any life on these dreadnoughts. It just looked… Mechanical. Lifeless.
“Turn here.” You’re about to question where he means here, because the closest break in the hallway is about a hundred feet in front of you, but he quickly shoves you into a storage closet, and you go full-on defense mode.
That is, until, you see your favorite curly-haired flyboy staring at you in awe.
“Poe!” you nearly scream, just the mere sight of him making you want to hug him and never let go, but that wasn’t really an option because of the cuffs on both of you. He simply tucks a loose strand of hair behind your ear and you hold his face in your hands, thankful that your flyboy was okay and with you once again. Then, the fact that there’s a stormtrooper right behind you strikes you, causing you to turn around while grabbing onto one of Poe’s hands. “Wait, who are you? And why are you helping us?”
The stormtrooper rips his helmet off, and the sight brings you a little bit of pity—he was just another person scared for his life, running from the First Order. Or about to run from the First Order. You could tell.
“I wanted to do something good for once.”
“Nah, he was running and he needed a pilot. But I wouldn’t say yes until he agreed to bring you along, too.” You smile a little bit as he squeezes your hand, a gentle reminder that everything was going to be okay.
Maker, how could the two of you act like this as “friends” and still not be together?
You shake your head to get rid of those thoughts—why you weren’t dating Poe was an issue, but not the one at hand—and then ask the question everyone was wondering.
“So how the hell are we going to get out of here?”
Tumblr media
“Are you sure you remember which TIE Poe is in?” you mutter quietly, starting to wonder if the stormtrooper’s nerves were rubbing off on you. The three of you had agreed that it would be stupid to have one stormtrooper escorting two high-profile prisoners, so he’d take you one by one.
“Just shut up. Stay calm.”
“I am calm,” you state a bit too confidently, still having doubts about the situation. But this was a shred of hope, and as a Resistance member, what you did best was live on the mere specks of hope you could find.
“No, I was talking to myself.” You roll your eyes a bit. “Okay, turn left, now!” The both of you quickly hurry into the tunnels where the access to the TIEs was, with you following his lead and quickly slipping into one part of the TIE, where much to your surprise, you land on Poe’s lap.
“What the hell?!” you yell, immediately jumping off his lap and thanking the Maker that the lighting in here was dim—he wouldn’t be able to see the absolutely flustered expression on your face.
“Oh. Oh.”
“What the hell do you mean ‘oh’?” you ask a bit harshly, already jumpy before you slid into Poe’s lap.
“There are only two seats in a TIE.”
“And there are three of us,” you finish for him, rubbing your temples. “I’ll fly my own one out.”
“And risk us being separated—or worse, captured? Are you out of your mind?”
“Do you have a better idea, flyboy?”
“Just sit on my lap and pilot.” You’re not sure why the idea is making you so flustered, but it is.
“Right. And is that harness big enough for the both of us?”
“I’ll be your seatbelt.” There’s a moment before you burst out into disbelieving laughter, shaking your head.
“That has to be the stupidest thing I’ve heard you say, Dameron.”
“Do you have a better idea, Solo?” He calls out your “true” last name right there, which leaves you speechless for a second. You simply shake your head, muttering a few curse words under your breath before sitting down, sucking in a breath when you feel his hands go around your waist. “Do you know how to fly a TIE?”
“Someone’s forgetting the time I did this exact same thing on my own,” you shut him up quickly, actually trying to recall how, exactly, you did it the first time.
“Are you two done, or do we plan on spending a few more hours here?!” The trooper calls from the other side, starting to fire up the weapons.
“Okay. Here goes nothing.” You push the joystick as far ahead as you can, bracing for the sudden change in speed when what actually hits you all is a jolt backwards. Your heart stops for a second, thinking Ben was pulling the TIE back, but then you realize that the idiot who you were hopelessly in love with forgot to take the leash off the TIE.
“Are you serious?!” Both you and the stormtrooper exclaim at the same time, and you swear you can hear Poe chuckle a little bit before reaching around you to grab some controls, doing Maker knows what.
You were going to kill him as soon as you made it back to base.
“I got it, I got it!” He somehow gets rid of it, leaving you to rely on nothing but memories from a few years ago and your sheer intuition to fly the TIE out of here, all while the hangar shield was closing and you were being shot at.
But, having it in your blood, you manage to do it, grinning as both of the boys cheer you on as you speed past the cannons on the bottom of the dreadnought.
Oh shit. The cannons.
“We have to get rid of those—”
“—cannons, you hear me?” you finish for Poe, making sure the TIE was going as fast as it could. “I’m going to spin around, and you’re going to shoot them. You got that?!”
“I got it!” he screams back, and you take in a deep breath, trying to do what you needed to before you realized how stupid it was.
Here goes nothing.
You spin around, yanking the joystick all the way back so you make a perfect transition from moving forward at full speed to going in reverse at full speed, all while making sure the wings don’t get burnt off by the walls.
“I got ‘em!”
“Well, you have some more TIEs to take care of when I turn back around!”
“Yes, ma’am!”
You do the full-spin again, laughing a little bit when Poe whoops and pulls you further into his chest, hugging you.
“You’re fucking amazing!”
“Tell me something I don’t know, Dameron!” You laugh in glee, shooting out of the tunnel and heading towards Jakku.
“I got ‘em! I got the TIEs!” The aircraft is full of laughter and rejoicing and hope, something you haven’t felt this much of in a long time.
“Hey, what’s your name?” Poe asks the stormtrooper sitting in the back.
“I don’t have one.”
“What?”
“They just call me FN-2187.”
“FN, huh? Well I ain’t using it. FN… How about Finn?” You turn around slightly, just enough to face Poe, and nod a little bit, a wide smile on your face. Looking back on this memory, you wonder whether it was this small action that led to the entire course of the galaxy being changed.
“Finn… I like it.” You seem to forget everything in the galaxy besides the man whose lap you’re sitting in, repeatedly looking from his eyes to his lips, unable to help yourself and not wanting to.
“You’re amazing, you know?” The compliment masked as a question brings a smile to your face.
And perhaps, if you hadn’t been so lost in the celebration and the haze of love, you would’ve kept your head in the game and swerved the incoming blast that Finn didn’t even have time to worry any of you about.
“I know.”

My Pilot boyfriend~ Poe Dameron imagine
Tumblr media
Poe Dameron x Skywalker!reader
Requested by @rachelcarroll1819 19 “Hi can you do a imagine where the reader is the daughter of Luke skywalker and she's in a relationship with poe (her bff are poe and rey of course ans she does have the force) please and thank you”
Warning- slight angst, swearing, FLUFF.
———-
It felt refreshing being back in a place you knew, somewhere green, with real air and real trees, not in a place where it was infested by the planet's own pollution or run over by the galaxy's most artificial, spiteful, irritating and trashy people.
It just felt good being home. Or temporal home.
“Hey, skywalker!” Finn greeted.
You grinned and wrapped him in a tight embrace. “Hey, traitor. Long time no see.”
“I could say the same.” Finn pulled away with a smirk. “Where have you been?”
You shrugged nonchalantly, your eyes looking for the only person that was strangely missing from the scene. “Oh you know Jedi business.”
Finn chuckled, “sounds like avoiding the war to me.”
“Pssh,” You shook your head but contained your grin, “I’m sorry I’m not the war hero my father was.”
“Don’t we all wish you were.” He joked.
You place your hands on your hips and shrug, your eyes wandering the area for your favorite pilot. “Where’s Poe?”
Finn frowned, “somewhere down there.”
“Oh.” Your gaze immediately lands on Finn and your face falls at his statement. Did he really not want to come greet you? He always did, regardless of what he was doing at that moment. “I-I thought he would be here. He always is.”
Finn's shoulders dropped and a smile crept onto his lips, “I’m joking, again. You know you’ve got that man hooked.” Finn wrapped his arm around your shoulders and guided you out of your hanger, “he’s off base, last minute mission. He should return soon.”
You playfully push him away and laugh, “you’re an ass.”
——
“What happened there?” Rey points to the new metal hand that replaced the flesh, one that was now nothing but a memory.
“Oh, this.” You lift your metal hand and wave your fingers, examining it like if it were the first time you’ve truly seen it. “Someone lowlife scum caught me by surprise and jumped me.”
Finn quirks his eyebrow and parts his lips to add some snarky remark.
“Don’t.” You cut him off, “Poe is going to give me shit about it later, I’d rather only be scolded once. Thank you very much.”
Finn raises his hands, feigning innocence, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Well I think it suits you.” Rey smiles.
“You’ll be the only one to ever think that.” You glance at the time on the wall and sigh, it’s been eight hours since you’ve arrived and eight hours since Poe’s still been gone. It was past midnight with no communication, or the smallest sign that he's alright. It was beginning to worry you.
Actually lies.
It worried you the first hour after you had gotten back to base. Of course you had the force to assure you that he was still actually alive but that was all, it didn’t give you the slightest hint if he was in a cell or in trouble. For all you know he could be injured.
Let’s hope not though.
“Rey, can you try again, please.”
Rey looks away from her Jedi texts and glances at the communications screen beside her, no hesitation to do what you’ve all been trying for hours. “Black Leader, come in Black Leader, its ground base trying to get a status on your whereabouts.” Rey lets go of the button on the side of the headset and waits for another dreadful, anxious minute. Her eyes shifting to see you lean in closer to the screen, your bottom lip in between your teeth, until….
Nothing.
Again.
A sigh leaves your lips and you fall back on your chair, your face and shoulders dropping at the disappointing result, yet again.
Finn finally having enough of you moping stands up from his chair and pulls you up from your own.
“Hey! What are you doing?”
“We’re going to build a nice fire, get a few drinks in us and wait for Poe with high hopes.” Finn explained as he pulled Rey up from her chair too.
You groan, “what if Poe finally reports in, huh? What if he’s injured and I’m getting drunk? I have to wait.”
Finn shakes his head, “Poe is the best pilot I know. He’s the best pilot in the galaxy, he’s fine.”
Rey scoffs, “yet he still crashes.”
“Don’t let him hear that.” You interject with a quick smile.
“Come on, no more long faces.”
Again you deny his attempts, “sorry I’ll wait.”
Finn sighs and drops your hand, letting a minute of silence pass before he adds something, “fine, don’t come, but I don’t want you waiting here, go to your room. Take a nap, take a nice warm shower or just simply relax.”
“Finn.”
He lifts his finger to stop you, “I’m not done. You haven’t relaxed since you’ve gotten here, go. If I hear anything, you’ll be the first person I tell.”
Your eyebrows furrow and you stare at him with a narrowed look, completely unsure of his suggestion and getting ready to decline and just fall back into your chair before he began to push you towards the hall that led to your quarters.
“Hey!”
“Nope, I’m not taking a no, for an answer.”
You look back to Rey for help, but all she does is shrug.
Wow.
So much for an apprentice.
Once Finn and you reach the front of your door, he presses the button and the door slides open, not a second passing by before he literally almost throws you inside.
“I’ll come get you later, okay?”
Before you can give your response, he lets the door close and he just leaves, the sound of his footsteps retreating, getting quieter and quieter until you know he’s out of the hall.
Wow these rooms are literally paper thin. Why have you now realized that?
Sorry to the people next door.
Shrugging that aside for the time being, you switch on the lights, your nose instantly getting welcomed by the familiar natural scent of Poe; nothing but the sweet smell of woods, slight hint of x-wing fuel and the strong yet perfect scented cologne he loved to wear.
All of it just making you miss him that much more.
The picture of him and you placed on the end table is definitely no solace to your feelings.
The deeper you get into your room, the more you have the urge to just sit in bed and wait for him. But you also knew Finn was right to at least try and relax. That and well a nice shower would pass by time.
——
It didn’t work.
Time was a taunting bitch when it was needed to pass by quickly.
You hoped that in the middle of your super long shower, Poe would go in and join, but here you were, hair wet, dry body and with his baggy shirt on, just waiting with no such luck. That only made your stomach churn more. Was he really okay?
What if he got taken hostage?
Or got badly injured?
No. You needed to go look for—
Everything suddenly went dark, your whole body jumping at the feeling of someone’s chest pressed on your back and hands covering your eyes. “Guess, who?”
You grab onto your chest and let out a relieved deep breath. Not only because you knew who it was the moment he spoke, but because it wasn’t some drunk fighter that had stumbled into your room by accident.
Because that has happened. Once. It was terrifying.
“Oh, I don’t know.” You play along, taking in a long sniff, “smells like sweat and ship fuel, maybe my pilot boyfriend from Naboo?” You smirk and feel his hands leave your eyes, a scoff leaving his lips after your joke.
“You’re funny.”
You spin around and see the familiar, big browned eyed, perfectly tan faced, cleaned shaved, cocky man you had been waiting for all kriffing day. A twisted look on his features and a new cut on his cheek—That was not going to be left unspoken—For now though, for now all you did was grin and throw your arms around him.
“Oh, you’re happy to see me? I thought you were happy to see your Naboo boyfriend.” He remarked.
You pull your head away from his shoulder and shoot him a narrowed look, “it was a joke.” The smile returns regardless and you press a sweet short kiss on his lips, “I only love you.”
Poe stays quiet for a moment before his own relief to your well being breaks through and he pulls you in for a tight hug, his hands balling the material of your shirt as he rests his head in the crook of your neck, a gentle kiss later felt on your shoulder.
“I’ve been waiting to see you all day.” He muttered into your skin.
You smile and run your fingers through his dark curls, “I was worried. I almost went out to look for you myself.”
The gesture of Poe’s smile was felt widening on your skin, the feeling of his lips pressed on your skin sending shivers down your spine.
When he pulled away, that’s all you saw: a smile and a softened look, his eyes studying your face to check for any wounds and simply just taking in every soft feature like if it were the first time he’s seen you. He caressed your cheek and pulled you in for a long awaited kiss, one that was deep and passionate, his excitement felt in more ways than one.
And the only reason why he pulled away was so he let you leave a trail of kisses from the corner of his lips to the sweet spot on his neck.
“I thought you said I smelt like sweat.” He reminded you.
You smirked, “You do, but for you I make exceptions.”
Poe pressed you tighter to him, his hand reaching for yours to press a kiss on it, but stopping once he noticed what was wrong.
“What’s this little number?”
You pull away and watch as he examines your metal hand. “Someone was fighting dirty. Got a jump on me and cut my hand thinking that I couldn’t wield my saber with both. Her mistake.”
Poe frowned, his eyes filled with worry, “baby, you need to be more careful. You—”
“Poe,” you interrupt, “I’m okay. Okay? We can talk about it after I've had at least twenty four hours with you.” You smile and carefully wipe the curls that had been stuck to his forehead because of the sweat gleaming on his skin. “Long day?”
He rests your forehead on yours and sighs, “yeah. You don’t mind if we just sleep tonight, do you?”
“Only if I get to cuddle with you.”
He chuckles and presses a kiss on your nose, “You got it.”
The sudden knock on your door pulls you both away, both of you sharing a look until you rush to the door to see Finn, a huge grin on his face and drinks in his hands. “Fires started and drinks are here. Let’s go.”
You look over your shoulder to see Poe with an exhausted look clearly decorating his features, looking like he was going to pass out any second now.
“Uhh, next time.” You smile.
“What? Come on.”
You shake your head and show him a smug smile, “You wanted me in my room, I’m staying. Next time, promise.” Before he can come up with another excuse, you slowly close the door and leave him out there, turning back to Poe with a sweet smile.
“You can go if you want.” He adds. “I’ll stay and get some sleep before we have to get up again.”
“Nah,” you shrug, “I’d rather sleep in with my ONLY pilot boyfriend.”
Poe grins, “cute.”

Empress
Pairing; Kylo Ren x Reader
Prompt: “Just stay with me!”
Warnings: injury, blood, angst, FLUFF, I didn’t edit this
summery: the resistance makes an attack on the supremacy, and while Kylo is caught up with others, he feels his Empresses pain.
Authors note: look who’s back baby! I’m so sorry I was gone for so long! But I’m here! And I’m writing again! So here’s Empress, kinda inspired by a roleplay I did with my friend. And so here it is!!
Tumblr media
Guns blazed almost everywhere on the ship, taking down troopers and resistance soldiers everywhere. While Kylo was occupied with Rey, (y/n) was Occupied with with her ex. In the throne room where she was told to stay, they finally broke down the doors and made a charge towards her, being stopped by the knights of Ren as the Resistance Commander made an attempt on the Empresses life.
Kylo could sense her panic, but he trusted the knights to protect her with their life, he trusted her to protect herself as well. So as he fought off Rey he put all his focus into her, meeting her blade over and over as the red and blue bled into purple around them.
“What have you done to her?!” Rey questioned as she pushed off Kylo’s blade. She was filled with fury, Kylo had taken away her friend, put her on the throne, changed her.
“Nothing she didn’t want!” He quipped back as her cut into her arm, and kicked her back. When he found (y/n) he had no clue she was resistance, or even a Jedi, the darkness that was in her was so strong he thought she was a Sith. Yet she compressed it, for them, for Poe. When Kylo showed her what freedoms she could have on the dark side, she didn’t even hesitate to take his hand.
“You made her a monster!” Rey quipped lunging at Kylo, cutting into his arm before he pushed her to a wall.
“I made her a queen!” He yelled before a heat of pain rushed threw him, searing him threw his heart and mind, white hot and spreading like a fire. Yet the pain wasn’t his, it was hers, it was (y/n)’s pain. Before he could even think he knocked Rey into a deep sleep and ran towards the throne room to find his empress, his love, his soul.
Rushing into the throne room he found her on the floor with The resistance commander leaning over her, trying to save her, but Kylo knew he was the one who did this. Covered in her blood and trying to keep her awake. Kylo was furious, blinded by rage and hatred as he threw poe to the wall with the force and rushed to her side.
“Hey! Hey, baby it’s me, open your eyes” Kylo said patting her cheek as he held her against him, her arm limp on the floor, her head falling back.
She tried, he could feel that she’s trying to stay awake for him but all she can see is stars, bright white stars dancing in the galaxy. Just like they used to do every Sunday.
She was wearing a flow golden dress, sleeveless and shining like the sun. Her crown placed gently on her head as she walked into the now white throne room.
“You look familiar, do I know you?” Kylo asked with a bright smile as he stood up from his throne.
“Kylo...” she shook her head walking towards him slowly.
“Ah yes, you are the goddess that rules my galaxy by my side” he smirked and took her hand gently, putting his other hand on her waist.
“Behave” she giggled and blushed putting her hand on his shoulder.
“How can I behave when the most beautiful being to ever graze the stars is my girlfriend ?” He smiled leaning down and kissing her lovingly. He always loved showing his affection for her when the knights were around, he liked making his claim over her.
“Kylo- the knights” she whispered pulling away from him looking up at him with soft eyes.
“I don’t care...” he shook his head lifting her shin to face him, his large finger resting under her chin gently. “Just dance with me...” he said softly before pulling her closer and starting to dance with her.
He loved dancing with her, holding her close and being gentle, being himself. He did it whenever he could he’d take her into his arms and sway around with her, swirl her around the kitchen or bedroom after a bad day or dream. It was an opportunity to show her he loves her, to show he wants to be good for her, to show he’s not a monster.
He never needed to prove himself to her, he knew that but he couldn’t help but feel he wasn’t good enough or that deep down she hated him. It wasn’t true, he was always enough, and she could never hate him, not now, not ever.
Especially not right now, as he held her bleeding body in his arms, his large hand over her wound “(y/n)...” he whispered holding her, his tears falling on her face as he rested his forehead against hers
“Just stay with me!” He yelled feeling broken, feeling anger and hate, rage... heart break. He couldn’t loose her, not now, not with the ring in his pocket, burning a hole into his armor waiting to see the light and hear the words ‘yes, I’ll marry you’
“K...Kylo” she whimpered trying to keep her eyes open, she wasn’t gone yet, he could save her, but at what cost?
“(Y/n)... don’t speaks, just stay with me!” He yelled using his new found knowledge of healing on her. Focusing all his pain, hate and sadness, his fears and hopes, his love on her. Putting everything he could into her, closing the wound that burned threw her side like he was reversing time. His large hand holding her head up so he could watch her, watch the color come back to her face, the light back in her eyes and the shine back to her hair as he held her.
He gave her life, in so many ways. He gave her hope, and love, he gave her passions and a family. She loved Rey, Finn and Poe, yet she always felt like she was missing so much in her life till she took Kylo’s hand thats day, the day they filled each other’s void.
Kylo walked threw the snow covered forest, the trees larger then any he’d ever seen before. He was following the aura, the familiar presence he’d felt so many times before in his mind. He wasn’t going to stop until he found her, laying on the ground by a wrecked fighter jet, to destroyed to identify. She wore black, her darkness seeping threw her light cover, calling out to him.
She felt him to, looking up at him as she quickly stood, grabbing her saber and holding it up to fight, yet he was quicker and threw it using the force.
“You don’t want to do that, sweetheart.” He said calmly, his helmet still on as he approached her slowly.
“Why don’t I?!” She asked panicked, backing up until she tripped over a tree branch, landing in the hard ground with a thud.
“Because I can give you everything you’ve ever wanted...” he said quietly as he reached his hand out to help her up. Her heart raced and her mind went wild yet her soul, her soul reached out to him. Taking his hand before she could even think about it. It was then she realized he took off his glove to touch her hand, feel her skin, feel her soul against his.
Looking up at him as their hands touched it was like it all made since, the mission, the crash, the break up before it. It was all set in stone for this moment, for the beast to meet his beauty. To fill the void in their hearts.
“Kylo...” she whispered, her voice restored yet tired as she laid her hand on his holding it against her exposed skin.
“(Y/n)” he smiled sitting her up, holding the back of her head like she would fade from his grasp if he let go, her hand holding his face as she kissed him. His hand leaving her side for a second only to grab something from his pocket. “I can’t loose you- I ... I would loose myself without you...”
“You won’t loose me... not that easy...” she chuckled and smiled looking at him. Her small hands holding his scarred face, pushing hair from his face.
“I don’t want the chance I... ive been trying to figure out how to say this forever... and I couldn’t figure it out- and I realize now I may not get another chance to” he stammered as he pulled the ring from his pocket
“Kylo...are you...” she looked at it then him.
“Be my empress...”

Saving you.
Pairing: Poe Dameron x reader.
Summary: Poe saves you after being severely tortured by the first order.
Warnings: Angst. Blood. Medical inaccuracies probably. Leia being a surrogate mother. Wedge being surrogate father. Fluff.
Wordcount: 1.7k
A/N: I know I wrote a poe for just the other day but I needed to try do angst with flyboy.
Tag: @phoenixhalliwell
Poe had always been that level headed, ace pilot that everyone knew him to be. But this was a side no one else had ever seen. Not even General Organa. He was running off of no sleep and caffeine and that was it. Bags had formed under his eyes, his usually somewhat neat curls were all over the place.
You had been captured and tortured by the First Order. After your X-Wing had crashed troopers had dragged you away, and took you on board of Kylo Rens Star destroyer. It had gotten to the point during being tortured that you started to dissociate from the reality that was happening around you.
"What are they doing?" Hux asked a lieutenant that was in your cell with him,
"It seems they are distancing themselves from reality sir, to cope with the pain." The lieutenant responded as they look down at you, and your weakened state as you stared into the distance.
Back on the resistance base, Leia physically forced Poe to go to bed. Making sure that either Rey or Finn were there to make sure he actually slept. He had to be honest, he did feel better physically after getting some well needed rest. After getting some sleep, he woke up and freshend himself up. That was until Finn came running in the room.
"POE! LEIA NEEDS US!!" Finn stated heaving the words out. Poe, BB-8 and Finn running or in BB-8s case rolling at full force down corridors leading towards the control room. There Leia stood over a table of information. Sensing the 2 boys and the droid enter the room, she turned and looked Poe dead in they eye.
"Poe... we found them." She simply stated. A little bit of pressure had lifted off of Poe's shoulders for a moment, knowing that he would be able to get to you. Everything around base started getting busy, Poe, Finn, Rey and BB-8 got the falcon ready and we're on their way to the ship.
You were still in your cell on the floor. The extent of your injuries worse than anyone on base has had for a long while. You were certain that your leg was broken from the crash, only to be made worse by Hux and his men. They hadn't given you anything to eat or drink, so your hydration levels were extremely low. Cuts and bruises had formed all over your body. You were finding it difficult to move anything, and the extent of some of your injuries would probably require some PT and a slow recovery.
Inside the Millenium Falcon, Poe sat there nervously his leg bouncing up and down. Rey walked over to him and kneeled in front of him.
"We're gonna find them Poe." Rey stated quietly,
"I know. It's just.... what state they'll be in." He replied even quieter. She left him to simmer with his thoughts until it was time to board the destroyer. The destroyer came into view after dropping out of hyperspace, and Rey could sense your presence but it was very weak. After spending a few minutes, the three of them along with BB-8 were aboard the ship and Rey used the force on some troopers to find you.
Coming to a stop outside your cell, BB-8 got the door open for the others. Poe was first in, and the sight shattered his heart into a million little pieces.
"Y/N? Honey, it's Poe. We're taking you home." Poe stated quietly. He could see your shallow breathes, but there was no recognition of the fact that he was there and not to mention you were almost cold to the touch. Picking you up as gently as he could, he heard you groan and your eyebrows pinch a little.
"Poe?" Your voice cracked as you felt your body being lifted,
"Yeah baby, I'm here I'm saving you baby. We're going home." Poe responded. The five of you moved through the ship, Finn and BB-8 in front, Poe with you in and out of consciousness in the middle and Rey at the back. It wasn't long until you were all in the hanger, blaster fire all over the place. But you all managed to get away on the Falcon.
Poe laid you gently on the bed, and sat next you holding your hand. Rey and Finn left the two of you alone, knowing that Poe would just want to be with you and not talk. As he sat next to you, he felt your hand squeeze his ever so slightly but no words came out. You were too tired.
"I know baby, we're two minutes away from base." He said quietly to you, his free hand stroking your hair back gently. Surely enough two minutes later, the falcon dropped out of hyperspace right above the current planet the base was on.
Medics rushed onto the falcon, helping transfer you onto a floating medical bed. Poe ran behind them on the way to medical, but soon stopped him when they went to get ready to be treated. Poe started sobbing, as he slid down the wall not realising that Leia had just arrived. She got Poe to stand up and then drew him in for a hug and let him cry. Leia knew that you two were in love, and it made her heart break to know that Poe almost lost you in the way he lost his mother, but also then having to hear you have been tortured by the First Order.
Eventually, Poe and Leia were allowed to see you. You looked better, the miracle of bacta doing its job. And when Poe touched your hand it was far warmer than it had been previously. It took you a long while to wake up, the bacta working as best it could. The medics checked on you frequently, and Poe stayed next to you for almost the entire time.
You opened your eyes, the bright light of medical causing then to shut again. Slowly your eyes adjusted to the light and you were able to see what was going on around you. Looking to the left of you, you saw Poe dozing at an odd angle in the chair next to you.
"Poe..." you croaked barely anything coming out, "Poe." You managed to say a bit louder. He sat up with a start, almost falling off of the chair. His eyes were wide but tired, as he looked at you tears welled in his but a smile was across his face.
"Hi honey, how are you feeling?" Poe asked quietly stroking your hair back,
"Like absolute shit. You look tired." You replied bringing one hand up to his face.
"It's cause I am baby, you gave me a scare." Poe stated leaning into your hand and locking eyes,
"Your gonna need physical therapy for that leg you know." He continued kissing the palm of your hand.
"I'm sorry I scared you flyboy. And I know, I gathered that when I was.... when I was. Yeah I gathered." You stuttered out, everything suddenly coming back to you at once. You looked at Poe, tears now falling down your face.
"K-kriff I'm.... im so sorry Poe. I almost left you and... and I was so scared, all I could think about was you." You continued breathing starting to get more panicky.
"No, no baby. Hey listen Y/N it's fine, there is nothing to be sorry about. Baby just breathe, please just breathe for me." Poe stated instantly taking your hand in his and calming you down. Eventually you started breathing properly again and squeezed your eyes shut for a moment.
"I'm sorry Poe." You whispered,
"It's okay baby, I understand. You've had a bad few weeks. But I'm not going anywhere and neither are you, because you're safe." Poe responded kissing you gently.
***********************************
It had just been over a month now that Poe had rescued you. Medical had cleared you to go to your own quarters, but you had to go back either every day or every other day for physical therapy. Some days were better than others.
If Poe was away though, you'd spin his mother's ring around your finger. Which he had given to you as a sign of unity, not long after you were discharged.
Today though, you had a rest from therapy and you decided you'd go sit outside and watch Black Squadron practice flight maneuvers. Sensing a presence next to you, you turned and saw that it was Wedge. Wedge Antilles was like a father to you, he was one of the first faces you saw when you joined the Resistance, and he was the one that taught you everything that you knew.
Standing up, you smiled and hugged him. He sat down next to you and looked at the X-Wings flying past.
"Hey Wedge." You said smiling at the older gentleman,
"Hey kid, how's the leg?" He asked smiling back at you.
"It has its moments. It gets bad some days and then others it's like I didn't injure it. But therapy is helping, I just wanna get back out there." You replied looking up as Poe soared past,
"Yeah I know the feeling. I didn't tell you about the time I basically had the same accident as you did I?" He stated tracking your eyes to your fiancé.
"No sir." You shook your head, now focusing on Wedge,
"Not long after the fall of the Empire and the destruction of the second Death star, I went out of my way to find if there was any remnants of the Empire left behind. One day, my ship got shot by a Tie and I crashed into one of the few remaining star destroyers. Injured myself of course, spent a little while moving around the ship before being caught and tortured for answers. This was above the planet Akiva, and they took me to the imperial Palace which was a magnificent building. After that I don't really remember much, but that's where I met Snap and his mum. I done therapy for a injury similar to yours." He explained, his eyes looking into the distance as he remembered.
"I didn't know that you met Snap that long ago." You replied,
"Yeah, he had a droid modified from the clone wars called MR BONES. But the thing is, therapy will get better Y/N." He stated smiling a sense of understanding there.
"Thank you Wedge." You smiled back giving him a hug again. The two of you sat there for a while, until you both agreed that getting food from the mess sounded good. You used your cane to help you around, sometimes placing most of your weight on it.
The good thing was that you had someone who understood how you felt, someone who loved you dearly and someone that could bring you or your fiancé comfort anytime.

Okay but what if Kix never got his chip removed (bc there weren’t any more Jedi, really, so why bother) but then he sees Rey or something and just. Loses it and tries to kill her and is acting his Tup did when his chip malfunctioned (but no worries because they figure it out before anyone gets hurt)
Why must you hurt me like this 😭😭😭😭
This turned out longer than I planned.
—————-
Kix was beyond ready to stretch his legs. Sitting in his jump seat for the last couple hours with this knees pressed against the co-pilot’s seat in front of him had caused some major cramps. They were headed back to Takodana to resupply.
Maz’s Castle on the planet hadn’t been the only gathering place for unsavory types. It had just been the most popular. Once there, they’d refuel and restock their freeze dried food stuffs. Kix was hoping to find time to visit a place for some actual food. The freeze dried stuff was real, but it reminded him too much of military food.
They landed not too far outside a small town, the weekend market was in full swing. A perfect place to get supplies. And real food. Smells drifted up from pop-up cantinas and food carts. Some Kix recognized from his travels around the galaxy, and some that were foreign to him. He felt like he had been everywhere, but there were still places he hadnt even heard of.
Kix and Quiggold were tasked with getting the food, Kix had some medical supplies he needed to restock as well. They stopped at a food cart and ordered a chunky stew with meat and vegetables. Kix had no idea what the meat was, he didn’t understand the Artiodac who ran the cart. But the vegetables he recognized.
“Finally, something hot and I didn’t have to heat it.” Quiggold muttered, sipping his cup of stew. He sighed contently. Kix smirked and lifted his own cup to his lips and took a sip. He looked around at the patrons of the market, trying to see how many species he can name.
“What’s on your list for medical supplies?” Quiggold asked, checking the medic pack Kix had for the list. He checked their credit limit to make sure they had enough. No answer.
“Kix?” The Gabdorian looked up at his comrade, who had his cup paused halfway to his lips. He was frozen in place. A strange look on his face. Quiggold placed his cup down on a table.
“Hey, Quiggold to Kix? What’s wrong? What are you staring at?” The peg-legged first mate followed his friend’s stare to a woman.
“Oh, yes. She is very pretty. But we don’t have time to gawk at the ladies. We need to finish our shopping.” Quiggold took Kix by the wrist and tried to pull him along. The former-clone stayed put.
“Kix, do I need to pull-“ Quiggold’s threat to pull rank was cut short when the medic’s hand suddenly crushed the cup of stew, the hot contents didn’t seem to phase him. He was now mouthing something, but the noise of the market made it hard to hear. Quiggold was alarmed now, he had never seen Kix act like this. His eyes were still locked on the woman, who was levitating an apple in front of a dark-skinned man.
“Come on, Rey! Quit playing! I don’t think Jedi used the Force for this!” Finn said, reaching for the fruit. The woman used the Force to pull it just out of reach, giggling playfully. She was oblivious to the strange man staring at her.
“Captain, we have an issue. I think something is wrong with Kix. I can’t get him to respond. He’s conscious, sort of. I think he’s saying something like ‘good soldiers follow orders’, but I have no idea what that means.” Quiggold used his comm unit to contact Captain Ithano, Reveth, and Squeaky who were haggling over fuel. Just then Kix dropped the cup and charged the woman full speed, Quiggold only having time to yell at him to stop.
Rey felt a sudden change in the Force, a warning sign. But she didn’t really need it, since she could hear the startled screams of market goers as a man ran towards her at top speed. He was fast and almost too close for comfort. The apple dropped to the ground with a thud as Rey used the Force to push the man back and into a cart selling blankets. The man rolled and got to his feet easily. She didnt want to kill him, but she didn’t want to die either.
Finn intercepted the man just as Rey ignited her lightsaber defensively. The tackle knocked both men to the ground and Finn initially had the upper hand, but was quickly overpowered by Kix. He was immensely stronger than Finn, the former Stormtrooper was soon pushed aside. Kix hadn’t once taken his eyes off his prey. A Jedi. The latent order from over half a century ago sparked when he had seen her levitate an apple. The words “Jedi” and “Force” sealed her fate when the old chip still implanted registered the terms.
Kix got to his feet, but Finn grabbed his legs and pulled him back down. This man looked familiar. He needed another look at his face. Finn had studied the history of the Stormtrooper Corps. It had been required and he considered himself a history buff. He managed to get the man onto his back and Finn pinned him. Take away the beard, trim the hair back to a military high-and-tight....
A red-skinned, female Twi’lek then bodyslammed Finn, knocking him off Kix.
“No, no! He’s trying to hurt my friend!” Finn tried to explain, looking up to see Rey raise her ignited saber. The man didn’t appear afraid, he looked intent. Determined. Rey Force pushed him back one more time, the man managed to keep his footing. He knew how to fight around the Force. That was the icing on the cake for Finn.
“He’s a clone!” Finn yelled in realization, a look crossing the female Twi’lek’s face. The Crimson Corsair tackled his comrade, and managed to hold onto him tightly. The man struggled fiercely against the hold. Quiggold sedated Kix using one of the syringes from the man’s medic pack.
Finn shoved Reveth off him and scrambled to his feet, Rey looking relieved and startled at the same time. He approached the famous Captain Ithano and was blocked by a Gamorrean. Finn raised his hands to show he was unarmed, watching the Crimson Corsair get to his feet, holding the sedated clone up. Finn had read about the clones and had gone through the histories of some of the famous ones, Commander Cody, Commander Wolffe, Captain Rex. He had read about them being phased out of service and replaced with birth-born soldiers. He had heard Kylo Ren rant about how the clones had always been superior to the current ranks of Stormtroopers.
Finn had read military reports on the actions of some of the clones. But he also liked to indulge in conspiracy theories from time to time. One rumor was that there had been control chips implanted in the clones. And that, once activated, these chips caused the purge of the Jedi Order. Finn had always regarded it as rumor, since he couldn’t find any clear military record of such a device.
“He’s a clone, isn’t he. From the Republic days.” Finn spoke to Quiggold, who looked at Captain Ithano for guidance. The Captain gave his first mate a small shrug, Quiggold nodding to Finn. Finn looked back at Rey, who looked confused. She didn’t know anything about the clones. All she knew was that this man was hell-bent on attacking her. Captain Ithano began to grow uncomfortable with the attention his crew was getting, hauling the medic over his shoulder.
“I’m so sorry ma’am. I have no idea what just happened. He has never behaved like that before.” Quiggold apologized to Rey, who was able to sense his sincerity. She felt something new in the Force. A sense of calm and confidence. She could feel a powerful Force-sensitive nearby. She looked around, her eyes landing on a Togruta woman standing at the edge of a nearby stall. She hadn’t been there a moment ago, Rey was sure of that. Rey blinked and she was gone.
Captain Ithano and his crew arrived back at the Meson Martinet and lowered the loading ramp.
“What are we going to do? We can’t have him doing that. What if we don’t catch him in time?” Quiggold asked the Captain, who remained quiet.
“Perhaps I can help.” Said a voice from behind them. The crew spun around, spotting a white-cloaked Togruta woman. The woman lowered her hood to reveal long white and blue striped montrals and lekku.
“And who are you?” Reveth asked, eyeing the woman suspiciously.
“Ahsoka Tano.”

Chapter 1: The Shadow
It was almost dusk when the small group gathered around the holotable, the last rays of sun slipped through the tall trees of Ajan-Klos casting shadows over the Resistance base. A last minute briefing meeting had brought the high rank members of the Resistance to this place, their tired faces awaited for the report from the mysterious spy inside the First Order.
The day had been really tiring, between fixing ships and the supply runs of the day you were exhausted. You stand next to the holotable hoping for good news and that this meeting wouldn’t be so long, you wanted to have a rest after the long day and spend some time with the beautiful brunette next to you.
Rey smiled at you when she felt your gaze over her, she seemed really tired after hours of training.
“Alright, the First Order is moving faster than we anticipated,” Poe spoke with a firm voice on the other side of the table. “they’re getting ready for something as the spy told us.” Once he started explaining the details the whole group of people seemed to pay full attention to his words. Everyone except Rey.
She was distracted or rather something was distracting her. Rey tried to concentrate on Poe's words, yet there was something strange in the place, a presence in the Force. It felt familiar and… cold.
A subtle movement of the nearby vegetation and the glimpse of a shadow put Rey in alert. She stared at the jungle for a moment but it was empty. She forced herself to believe it had been just the air and maybe the shadows that casted the sunset and turned her attention back to the meeting.
But as soon as she turned her gaze back to the hologram protection she heard a voice, a voice she knew. A voice like hers that murmured her name.
“Rey." The voice seemed to travel with the wind, coming from nowhere.
Rey looked around in search of the voice that called her name again when a new shadow passed behind Finn on the other side of the holotable.
You didn't realize what was happening but you did notice something was off with Rey. You knew her just too well to know something was bothering her. You noticed her body tensing as her gaze focused on something you couldn’t really see deep in the jungle.
“Rey, are you with us?” Poe asked, noticing she was not listening. “We need you to concentrate if this is going to work.”
“Sorry" she said. "I thought I saw something.” she apologized.
“As I was saying…” Poe continued.
Even though you should have paid attention to the briefing, your eyes focused on Rey for the rest of the meeting. She was distracted but you didn’t know why, and the way she kept scanning the place looking for something worried you.
“Rey” the mysterious voice reached her ears once again but this time louder. Closer.
“Rey?” you asked, seeing her confused looking around. "Everything alright?"
She seemed to calm down a bit when she realized it was you the one calling her. She even gave you a relieved smile when you took her hand.
“Yeah, I just-” she almost parilized when she caught a cloaked figure standing between the trees, hidden in the shadows the yellow-eyed woman observed them.”There's someone right there!” Rey almost yelled pointing at the woman in the cloak.
However, when everyone turned around to take a look she was gone, or maybe she never was there.
"There's no one there, Rey." Finn added as kindly as he could. Rey glanced back at the empty spot where the cloaked figure was standing just moments ago.
"It was there." Rey murmured, her face expressed confusion as she was still looking at the jungle where now BB-8 was scanning, the small droid informed that there was no sign of living form.
"Rey, are you sure you saw something?" Finn spoke again from the other side of the holotable.
"Yes... no, I-I don't know." Rey said. You observed the way her body tensed while her face filled with surprise, perplexity. And fear.
"Rey, you sure you're feeling alright?." General Leia added.
"I guess I'm just tired." Rey gave her a shy smile. "I'm sorry, General. I'm just interrupting the briefing." Her gaze traveled to the floor for a moment, thinking.
"I understand, Rey. Please go have some rest. I need you focused tomorrow morning." Leia told her.
"Yes, General. Thank you"
Rey looked at you one last time and gave your hand a soft squeeze before leaving the meeting. You observed how she walked away upset. Something was off with her.
Once she was gone your gaze focused on the spot in the jungle now in complete darkness.
*****
The blast door of your shared questers opened quietly, enlightening the small room. Rey was sitting at the end of the bed, a concerned look over her face almost covered by her loose hair. She must have been really stressed to loosen her usual three buns.
"How did the meeting go? Did I miss something important?" She asked as soon as she saw you.
"Not much, really. We know they're looking for something but not exactly what. The spy didn't tell us much." You told her with a soft smile sitting next to her. "It was actually a really boring meeting." You chuckled.
"It was." Rey added, softly chuckling. Then she went quiet again, thinking. This was bothering her more than she’d have liked, it was distracting her from everything.
"Are you going to tell me what happened back there?" You said dragging her out of her thoughts.
She knew what you meant, she wanted to tell you more than anyone what was going on but she was confused, didn't even understand what was happening.
"There was someone in the jungle. I swear, Y/N." She told you glancing into your eyes. She didn't need to swear it, you believed her, you’d always believed in her.
"You think it was Ren?" You asked, she used to have some sort of bond with him, she had told you sometimes she saw him through the Force. But as sudden as this connection appeared it as well was gone.
"No, it was a woman in a cloak, she was calling me."
"If nobody saw anything, perhaps it was a Force vision?" you added trying to comfort her.
"Maybe" she doubted. She was still hiding something.
"What is it, love?"
"I haven't been feeling myself lately." She told you. "I feel like I'm watching everything from someone else's eyes, sometimes I don't recognize myself in the mirror." Rey struggled to put her thoughts in words.
You understood it, or at least you though so. Rey had grown so much since the last time you met. War changes people but fortunately Rey had only changed for the better.
"Hey, it's alright." you said placing a hand on her shoulder "You're not the same girl from the desert, you've changed but that's okay, love." You tried to cheer her up. "Give yourself some time."
“You’re right, Y/N “ she gave you a sad smile. “I guess I’m no longer the same.”
Rey wished it was just that but no, she knew something was changing inside her, something colder. Something dark. Yet she hoped you were right and prayed to the Force that had nothing to do with what she saw in Ahch-To but soon her fears came true.
The night covered completely in shadows the Resistance base bringing with it nightmares and darkness. Rey found herself trapped inside the labyrinth of her own mind, running through endless corridors of memories. She saw her younger self screaming when she was left on Jakku all those years ago, she felt the same desperation running through her veins. In a blink of an eye she was in another place this time it was the island she used to dream of as a kid, Ahch-To. In the past the image of this lonely place in the middle of the ocean used to calm her and bring her hope but this time it only sent a shiver down her spine as her heart raced in horror, it was the last place she wanted to be in.
Coldness, she felt extremely cold, just like that distant day inside the cave beneath the island and just like in her memory she found herself standing in front of the mirror waiting for her dark side to appear. She waited, more scared with every passing second but no figure appeared in the dusty mirror.
The sound of a lightsaber turning on made Rey look over her shoulder only to meet that face she was expecting in the mirror, her own face, consumed by the darkness.
“My turn.” the woman in black cloak said before raising her red saber with a powerful hit towards the light.
Rey woke up holding a scream, heavy breathing and filled with panic. It took her a moment to realise she was not in the cave, not in Ahch-To but safe in the Resistance base, in her quarters. She only felt more calm when she spotted you lying next to her, your peaceful face and the way your chest rose and fell in a calm rhythm helped her to relax some more.
“It was just a dream.” she thought, she wished. Rey was used to nightmares, to restless nights staring at the ceiling. In the daylight things seemed to be alright, she felt in peace but in the night the pain of her past turned her mind into a scary place full of pain, doubt and hate. Rey spent the rest of the night trying no to fall asleep again, only observing you with adoration as you slept.
The strange feeling the nightmare had on Rey didn’t vanish when the sun came out as she hoped, it rather stayed in her the whole day, the coldness, the fear just didn’t go away but got stronger when she was training.
She was not focused, she was scared with every strange shadow she saw, maybe she imagined it but Rey could swear a pair of yellow eyes were following her. It frustrated her not to know what was going on, it made her angry.
Off balanced her.
Rey throwed her lightsaber at the distant shadow she thought she saw passing by, she didn’t realise her burning weapon landed in a fuel container cutting it open instantly and with the smallest spark, it burst into flames.
A laugh rumbled in the air.
“My turn.”
*****
On the mechanical bay of the base you sat humming as you repaired the spherical droid as Poe had asked you, you were good with droids and specially fixing BB-8, the rollie always seemed to be getting into trouble and you had to take care of him. And to be honest you really could use a distraction, Rey had nightmares at night, she didn’t tell you but you noticed it in her restless face and concerned eyes.
“Really?” you chuckled at BB stories of his spying mission. “Well, that Kaz sounds like a great kid, I hope I meet him some day.” The droid beeped in a happy tone.
You were happy to repair the droid and to laugh with his adventures but today your mind was totally focused on Rey, your poor girlfriend seemed to be disturbed, you wished you could know what was really going on.
"Do you think Rey's gonna be okay?" you murmured, fixing the last circular panel of the small droid. "Not gonna lie, buddy, she worries me. She's been acting strange since yesterday. Different."
BB’s comforting beeps made you relax just a little.
"You're right, BB, it must be the training.” you said. “It’s been a long week, besides Rey can be too hard on herself sometimes.” you finished the repairs on the droid. “There. Good as new, my little friend.”
The astromech rolled around beeping happily, you giggled with the view of it. A calm moment on the base like this was not as usual as you’d like it. Unfortunately the calm didn’t last long: a single explosion not far from where you were interrupted the moment and attracted the eyes of everyone around.
"What was that?" You asked, looking at the dense trail of smoke that rose above the tall trees of the base."BB-8, come on!”
Instantly you ran towards the fire, blaster in hand just in case. You didn’t know what had caused the explosion but your mind rushed to assume things and the only thing it could think about was the First Order, “They found us” you thought, after all the hiding and running they had found the base which could mean the end of the Resistance. But when you arrived at the place you froze.
It was a strange picture, the flames danced around the place, growing as they met the nearby wood, turning the always green jungle into an orange and pitch black tone. In the middle the fire was a man levitating in the air, his hands around his neck as he gasped for air, in front of him a shadow you recognized only for the three little buns on her head. Rey stood with her arm extended towards him. She was strangling him, you’ve only seen someone do that once, with the help of the dark side of the Force.
Soon enough there was at least half of the Resistance looking at the surreal scene, some of them already rushing to stop the fire before it consumed the entire place, yet nobody said anything at Rey, they were all speechless.
“Rey, stop!” you finally yelled watching how the poor man she was choking desperately gasped for air.
She turned to face you without losing the invisible grip on the man’s neck, but when your eyes met hers you felt goosebumps spreading all over your skin. It was not her anymore. Instead of her hazel eyes you found them burning like the flames behind her and a strange grin curved her lips.
“Who are you calling Rey?”

Modern! Poe x Reader
Summary: After getting locked out of your apartment, your neighbor Poe offers you his for the night.
Words: 3.6k
Warnings: Implied ass*ult (not by Poe), sex, alcohol consumption, language, *Fluff *
A/N:  I don’t know what kind of hallmark channel wattpad mess I just made but I hope you enjoy it regardless :) This is the first time I actually write for Poe! Sorry for the horrible grammar and other mistakes you will find.
As always, thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to read my garbage ^.^
The ground was cold and wet underneath you. So fucking cold as the loud pounding of water droplets made contact with the concrete around you. The way the city lights bounced and sparkled from the rain, it was beautiful. So beautiful in fact it almost made the throbbing in your head a little more tolerable. This was the bad part of town, you knew better than to be walking around here at night. Yet here you were pressed down on the concrete as some asshole disappeared with your purse into the darkness of the alleyway. You were so close to your apartment building too, just a block away. Guess that didn’t matter now.
With a grunt you managed to convince your limbs to move and sat up against the corner of a building wall. The bodega had been closed for awhile so no one was around to help you, but at least you were thankful for the awning that gave you a little shelter from the sudden downpour. Your hand reached up to your face to wipe away the warm drop flowing out of the corner of your mouth. Just your luck.
You leaned your head against the wall and shut your lids tightly, trying to breathe through your mouth and trying very very hard to stop the warm stream of tears that refused to stop flowing from your eyes.  They just wouldn’t and neither did the pain that was developing on your forehead in the spot where it hit the ground. Just your luck.
You still had your apartment keys though, you managed to lift them to try and defend yourself from the jerk who robbed you. They jingled now in your hands before letting them drop into your coat pocket, the little sound they made muddled with the sounds of the city nearby. You had to get up and move forward, you knew that, but you needed to get a few more breaths in before you could muster enough energy to stand. So you sat there for a minute with the cold rain in the cold damn concrete, just trying to get it together enough to keep going.
Maybe you were starting to get light headed because you swore you could hear the jingle of your keys again. Your fingers tightened around them in your pocket. No it wasn’t your keys. Your eyes flew open when the sound got clearer and closer until it was accompanied by soft pants. There in the ground next to you was a fluffy dog with a tag clinking against his collar.
Oh
He looked up at you tilting his little head to the side and you swore you’d seen him before but nothing stuck as you mulled it over. You slowly lifted your hand towards him and he smelled your arm before settling down next to you, resting his chin on your lap. His fur was soft against your hand even though it was soaking wet and you could only wonder what a ball of floof he’d be when he’s all dried up.
“Now where did you come from, little guy?” you smiled down at him and he replied with a little huff he blew out from his nose.
“Long day hu? Me too” you sighed and ran your hand through his fur, taking in comfort in the little companion you’d found. You sat there together for a little while until you were both shaking from the cold.
The rain started to thunder down around you now and you still had to walk in the rain for another block. You gently nudged the dog from you and with the effort you could muster, you stood up and scooped him into your arms. There was no way you’d leave him out here on his own.
“Now let's see where you’re supposed to be” You reached down onto his collar  but the address on the card has hard to read in the night, all you could make out was his name
“BB-8” you wondered out loud and his ears perked up at the mention of his name. “Well I guess I could take you home, and we’ll see who comes looking for you” The little dog wagged his tail and barked in response, the ghost of smile crept at the corners of your mouth. You made your way down the sidewalk then, half convinced that you were gonna dog nap the little guy.
It was a few minutes later, just as you were approaching your apartment building that you noticed a shadowed figure running towards you. He was carrying a large umbrella in his hand but it must've had a hole inside because the curls framing his forehead were dripping down his temple.
The lighting from the apartment building highlighted his features as he slowed down to a walking step until he reached you. The fluff in your hands began to shake wildly in excitement.
“BB-8? There you are little rascal!” he said with a bright smile that you instantly recognized. Poe Dameron. The new neighbor who lived in apartment 2187 just across the hall from you.
“Hello Poe” you offered him a short smile as he placed the umbrella above you.
Your neighbor had just moved in about a month a go, that’s where you recognized the little dog from. You saw them now and again when Poe took him out for his walks. He was a cute bastard that Poe, and you liked him alright, but you never made more than small conversation when you saw him. Aside from the lingering glances you spared each other when you met in the hallway, you kept to yourself. His smug smile faltered when he finally took in your features.
“Y/N” concerned plastered on his face. You lifted the little dog and handed it to him. “Are you alright?” You shook your head dismissively.
“Yeah I’m fine, just some guy decided to take my purse is all” His eyebrows furrowed together and damn it why was your stomach fluttering when you met his gaze?
“Are you kidding me?! D- do you need to go to the doctor? I can take you…” You shook your head to stop him.
“I’m fine, just dreading the fact I'm gonna have to go to the DMV now” You tried to make light of it, you really did but you failed. Still he offered a small chuckle out of pity for you.
“Well thank you for bringing him. I’ve been looking for hours” He cut into the silence.
“Yeah no worries, we kind of found each other” you smiled as you pet his fluffy head.
“Can I walk you home?” He offered and since you were just about there you didn’t refuse. Besides, you kind of liked his company. So you walked down the street together and you laughed at how silly he looked trying to keep you both under the umbrella and hold down BB-8 who kept trying to climb onto his shoulder.
Soon you were standing in front of your apartment door dripping on your welcome mat and thanking him for walking you home. You dug into your pocket just wanting to get inside and forget the evening ever happened only to come up empty handed. You shut your eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm down. How could you lose your keys? You just had them a little while ago.  You pushed at the door in frustration. You couldn’t go in through the fire escape because the window was locked from the inside and the manager wouldn't get back until tomorrow. Just your luck
“Everything okay?” You shot your head up and found Poe still standing there next to you.
“I probably dropped my keys outside” you throw your hands up because of course you’re having that kind of day. You’re half way down the hall when he calls out to you.
“Hey no, don’t do that! It’s pouring outside, come on” He was right on your heels with the little one running round you barking excitedly right next to you.
“Hey” he breathed out when you finally stopped to let him catch up. “Look, I know how this is gonna sound but you can stay over at my place” You gave him a -hell no that’s not happening- kind of look before shaking your head. Stay at his place? What a bold and cocky bastard. He was lucky you had a soft spot for him or you’d have slapped him.
You were just opening your mouth to refuse when he spoke again, fast enough so you wouldn’t interrupt him.
“Look I know, you don’t know me that well and it sounds sketchy but I have two roommates up there. You can sleep in the living room, just for tonight so you have somewhere to dry off from the rain.”  You chewed on your cheek as you thought about the offer, the soft panting of the dog was the only thing filling in the silence.
“Fine” you conceded, and he flashed you the most beautiful smile you’d ever seen. Somehow your legs still worked and you began to make your way towards his door. “But don’t get familiar” you warned and he put his hands up in surrender as he followed you.
The apartment was a little bigger than yours, theirs had two rooms and a beautiful view of the city. Yours only came with a brick wall on the other side. Sitting on a stool by the kitchen counter was a tall guy about your age. He smiled when he saw the little dog make his way inside.
“Hey you found him!” he called out as he stood. You offered him a smile when he finally noticed you standing there. His mouth dropped wide open as he stared at you dumbfounded.
“Y/N this is my roommate Finn. Finn you remember Y/N ” Poe chimed from behind a cabinet door, shuffling through towels before handing one to you. Finn's face dropped into a smug grin as he looked from Poe to you.
“Yeah hi, nice to see you…. Rey!” he called out so suddenly it made you jump. The door on the far end of the hall opened and a girl came out. The other room mate, you assumed, or maybe she was…
You’d never seen her before but your heart sank just a little at the thought that maybe Poe was already spoken for. No, you shook the thought away and offered her a shy smile instead as you ran the towel through your hair.  He was too beautiful to be single anyway. This was even better, now you didn’t have to worry about him being some creep who is just luring you to his apartment.
“What Finn?” she asked annoyed and he ran to her almost giggling like a child.  He stretched his hand out in your direction.
“We have a guest”  She followed his gaze and her eyes widened when she saw you.
“Oh hello, are you okay?” she sounded genuinely concerned and you offered a nod
“Yeah I just got locked out of my apartment in the rain is all”
“How incredible right?” Finn marveled and they exchanged a look.
“Is this?..” she whispered to Finn and he nodded.
“This is Y/N our neighbor from across the hall” he said, wiggling his eyebrows at her in a very not subtle way like you weren’t standing right in front of them watching them with your own eyes and listening with your damn ears. She bit her lip to hold back a smile before turning to look back at you.
What the hell was going on?...
You had a half mind to just run out when Poe cleared his throat. He’d sat down to dry off the little fluff before picking him up in a towel.
“I’m gonna go dry him up, I’ll be right back” he offered.
“NO!” Finn and Rey called out in unison and they ran towards the two of you.
“No way!” Said Finn as he took BB-8 from poe.
“Yeah you just stay here and Finn and I will take care of the little guy” she nudged him in your direction. “You just stay here and help out Y/N what kind of gentleman are you? She’s hurt, where’s the First Aid kit?”
“I’ve got it!” said Finn as he ran down the hall with the dog bouncing in his arms. You looked over at Poe and he shrugged apologetically. They were so fast you didn’t even have time to complain as they rushed you off to get changed out of your wet clothes.
---
Before you knew it you were sitting by the fireplace with a warm robe on as Poe helped you with  the bruises you’d gathered today. The living room was warm and you laughed with him as he apologized for his roommates behavior.
“They’re really not like this, I promise. I’m honestly impressed you didn’t run out the door. Damn it! Sorry”
You winced as he brushed the sanitizing wipe over the cut you had in the corner of your lip. It stung every time he did, no matter how gentle he tried to be.
“Hold on, I got something that can help” He stands for a moment and returns with a couple of glasses.
“Here” He hands you a small shot of… Brandy? You arch your brow at him and he lets out a laugh.
“I’d give you some painkillers but we’re all out.” He says before drowning one himself.
“Thanks” you mumble and you pour the warm liquid down your throat. It burns and tastes awful and you can’t help but make a face, and he can’t help but smile because you're so damn beautiful. He sits down beside you and continues working on your cuts for a few more minutes.
Now and again a crack of lighting will make BB-8 come running up to Poe who’ll pat him on the head, and he’ll settle on your lap before jumping away to play with his toys. You catch Poe’s eyes staring down at you more than once, focused on his task and every now and a gain a flash of anger comes over him.
“Did you at least give the son of a bitch a good scratch?” he asks out of nowhere. Speaking about the guy who robbed you, you assumed.
“Yeah he’ll have trouble if he wants kids” you smile and his face softens
“Nice,” he says all smug, like he’d been the one to do it instead.  You smile at him, at his stupid handsome face, and suddenly you want to kiss him.
He must’ve been thinking the same thing because his thumb lingers on your bottom lip more than needed to.
“Can I kiss you?” You freeze in place, nearly holding your breath. Yeah you weren't expecting him to read your thoughts out loud, but hearing him actually say it made your stomach flutter again. A thought crossed your mind and to your dismay, it left you before you had a chance to process it.
“I- I thought you were taken?” you manage to breathe out. He was too beautiful, there was no way...
He opens his mouth to speak but a roaring laughter from the other side of the room  door interrupts him. They were so loud  even BB-8 started howling, joining in the spectacle.
Finn and Rey, you liked those two, you decided. You liked them even though they’d obviously  been listening in to the two of you. The smile Poe gives you makes you think that yeah, they're in so much trouble and yeah he still likes them too. He shakes his head and bites his lip playfully as they finished their laughing fit.
“No, Finn  and Rey are just my roommates, and I'm way out of their league anyway” he calls out behind him.
“Yeah right!” a muffled yell called back from the door. Rey probably had her hand over his mouth to try and stop him from giving them away even more. You looked over at Poe and you burst into laughter again.
“Well?” he asked again once you had your fill. You bit your lip pretending to think it over.
You couldn’t say you hadn’t thought about it before, and dreamt about it... and maybe woken up a little too hot just thinking about his lips on you and those strong hands of his and how he would feel so good inside you.
You don’t really know what comes over you, but you nod and he’s leaning in to meet your lips and that’s when you lose it. He’s warm and he tastes like Brandy and you’re almost dizzy when he finally pulls away.
“You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to do that” he admits
“Mee too” and you smile as you lift your hand to tangle into his hair before you pull his lips to yours again.
You don’t even know how it happens, one moment you’re kissing and the next his hands are on you, traveling up your thighs and in between them and you let him. And his eyes are dark with lust and they’re wandering down your body like you’re a meal ready to be devoured.
And then you’re touching him, and damn it, if it doesn’t feel like you’re high off him. Your hands travel down his back pressing him closer and closer and it’s never enough to satisfy you.
And then you’re in his room and his stubble is brushing against your hips and you swear your whole body is on fire, blazing with hot desire as the rain pounds against the window and the thunder roars outside, muffling your ragged breaths in the darkness of the night.
---
When you open your eyes the next morning you don’t remember where you are. Why those curtains are dark and why your bed is so big. You don’t until the soft snore echoes in the room to remind you, and a smile breaks across your face. His arm is draped over your waist with his face nuzzled in your neck. His breath is warm against your skin and he’s sleeping so soundly that you dread to move and disturb him.
It’s not long though, before he stirs next to you and meets your eyes with a goofy smile plastered on his face.
“Good morning” he grumbled deep in his chest and it made your skin come alive again. “How’s your head?”
“Spinning” you chuckle  and he breathes out a laugh, and you’re suddenly breathless because you've never spent the night at someone else’s place. The thought flashes through your head and you cringe thinking about what comes next. He notices and furrows his brows in confusion, wondering if he’d hurt you somehow.
“Listen...about last night... I..” you stutter and sigh. He sits up when realization hits him, and his hands fly to your arms to hold them gently.
“Hey, no don’t freak out. Last night was…” He sighs out with a content smile “Amazing, you were amazing...don’t worry, we can talk about what it means later. Let’s just get you home safe and sound. Deal?”
You take a deep breath and nod, relieved that at least he wasn’t a jerk.
“Deal”
---
The day was bright and alive by the time you got dressed and made your way outside the room. You were so comfortable, you thought you’d be able to get home without feeling ashamed of yourself. That was until you made your way down the hall  and found two pairs of eyes fixed on you.
So much for a quiet breakfast.
Finn Was sitting on the small kitchen counter drinking coffee and eating eggs  while Rey was on the couch reading over a book. They both looked up to see you and looked at eachother with smug grins plastered on their faces
“Well good morning...” Said Rey as she stood up to stand by Finn. Poe Finally made his way out of the hallway and groaned loudly when he saw the pair.
“Guys, why are you here?”
“We live here don’t we?” said Rey as she lifted her eyebrow at him as he passed them to wrap an arm around you.
“Did you sleep well? You look a little tired there- Ouch!” Finn teased before Poe reached out and punched his arm playfully. Your face was burning by now, and all you wanted was to run out the door. Poe’s hand brushed against your arm gently trying to comfort you.
Rey was about to chime in again when Poe cleared his throat to announce that he'd be taking you back to your apartment.
“Awe” groaned Finn “You sure you can’t stay for breakfast Y/N?”
“I think they already had breakfast” Rey jokes and the two of them high five in front of you, and if you weren’t blushing before, your face was definitely on fire now.
“Okay we’re done here” Poe shakes his head and he’s following you about the door. You wave to them as you step out and another wave of laughter echoes through the hallway before Poe shuts the door and drowns them out.
Finally after what seems like forever you’re jiggling your keys into your apartment door. You turn to look at him and he’s got that stupid cocky smile on his face and you wanna kiss him again, but you don’t.
“See you around Poe” You flash him a smile and he nods
“See you around”
And with that you shut the door.
Minutes later you’re still sitting down, leaning on it. A laugh escapes you as you mull over the night you just had. And you think that maybe, just maybe getting mugged wasn’t the worst thing that happened to you, and neither was finding that little dog.  Just your luck.

Summary: After losing love twice, you thought you might not get it back. Moving to a new Resistance base with your daughter proves you wrong.

You’d known love before you met Poe. You’d known it three times, and all but one had left you.
The first was your family.
Your older siblings were taken away to the First Order, you parent’s had only enough time to hide you before the troopers came and took the others away. The troopers soon after came and killed your parents. You never understood why, and you’ve spent the rest of your life wondering. Naturally you still love them, but you miss them even more.
The second was your husband.
He was nothing short of an angel. He taught you so much, and many times had your life been saved by his perfect timing. It was a love built on years of respect, admiration, and late-night conversations. But like all of the best people in the Resistance, he was taken from the fight in one of the most noble ways to go. But he didn’t leave you alone.
The third was your daughter.
Vega was a miracle, and just like her father she was the one thing that gave you hope beyond measure. Despite carrying her on your own - truly on your own - that only seemed to make you love her more. Even now, five years later and the war raging like it never had before, she was still the light that kept the darkness of the galaxy at bay.
The love you felt with Poe wasn’t like that of Vega’s father. Sure, your realization came about as slowly, but really you’d had it since you first saw him with Vega.
___________
Vega had run off, and you being distracted with the mechanics of a newly damaged ship didn’t truly notice until you saw her (h/c) hair disappear around a corner.
Having only relocated to the base on Ajan Kloss, you ran after her right away. Back on your old base you were fine with her wandering off - she knew exactly how to get back, and everyone knew her - but here it was a little different.
“Vega!” you called, rounding another corner to find still no daughter. “Oh jeez, where the hell did she go?” you mumbled to yourself, your hands resting on your hips as you turned on the spot a few times before taking off in a new direction.
“Hey, hey lady, ma’am!” You turned back around, coming face to face with a man you’d seen across rooms - at the best of times - Poe Dameron. “Have you seen a droid? About yay high and so round. White. Orange details and an antenna that sticks up about an inch or so.”
“No,” you shook your head, “Um, on that topic - kind of - have you seen a child anywhere? Looks like me but smaller?”
You were both useless to each other.
A high pitched and childlike squeal of laughter came from your left, and you looked towards the end of the hallway to see Vega run past, followed by a small white and orange droid.
“Vega! -”
“- BB-8!” Both you and Poe shouted, then went running, chasing after the child and the droid, and you wondered how a five-year-old could run so fast.
Eventually you overtook the droid - BB-8 - and scooped a giggling and puffed Vega into your arms.
“I thought I told you to stay close, V.” you lightly scolded, and Vega looked over your shoulder with a light smile.
“Beebs wanted to play.” she said. You turned around to see Poe standing with BB at his feet. If droid faces could show emotions, you were sure BB’s face would match Poe’s wide and innocent smile.
You couldn’t help but smile back, even if Poe’s grin was directed right at the girl in your arms and not you.
__________
You only kept running into Poe and his droid more after that.
It became a common occurrence for both you and Poe to lose your respective small beings, only to find them together later on. Everyone in the base no longer questioned two adults running after a droid, of which was chasing a small - and always giggling - child. In fact most people found it rather homely, while others just paid no mind at all.
Such an event happened daily, and by the time a month was up, the act gained some new participants.
Over the course of trying to find his droid, Poe often sought the help of the Ex-Trooper, Finn. You did much the same when finding your daughter, except recruited the local Wookie, Chewie, instead.
It became quite the show, and some even stopped to watch your little parade pass by.
___________
“Rose, come here!” Rey called back, standing at her desk as the sound of yells and giggles came closer, “They’re coming around again!”
Rose came up behind her, watching as Vega came around a corner and into the hanger below, soon followed by BB-8. You came in after, almost neck-to-neck with Poe, while Finn was behind you both. Chewie didn’t seem to put in much effort, despite your constant telling him;
“Your legs are so long, can’t you run any faster!”
And that only seemed to amuse him, so he slowed down even more, trailing behind everyone at a much more languid pace.
“That’s their second time around the base?” Rose asked, only really wanting to clarify what Rey said earlier.
“Uh huh.” Rey nodded, tapping one of her books in her hand. “I think Vega and BB are using their smaller stature to their advantage.” Rose gasped dramatically.
“Short cuts?” Rey hummed, and the two women shared a look. “We’re not going to tell their humans, are we?”
“Nope!” Rey laughed.
__________
Eventually, after another half-lap of the base, you caught what you were chasing, and Finn and Chewie were realised from their roles as finders to go back to their jobs.
You turned to Poe, already having had another talk with Vega about wandering off without permission - even if she was supervised by a very trustworthy droid - with her hand in yours.
“Food?” you asked Poe, offering for him to join you for your post-chase ritual of raiding the local pantry for some snacks.
Poe nodded, and Vega bounced forward to take his hand in her free one as you started your much more pleasant journey in search of edibles.
__________
“You know, if I didn’t think any better, I’d start to wonder if they do it on purpose.”
Poe had settled at your side, the both of you had taken up watching Vega play with whatever gadgets BB would pull out.
“Of course they chase each other around on purpose Poe, that’s their game.” You said, taking another bite out of some sort of bread that was stuffed full of herbs.
“No,” Poe groaned, nudging your shoulder with his, “I mean roping us into it too. We never would’ve met if they didn’t run around and have us chasing them.”
Your chewing ceased for a moment, then started up again.
“You think they’d do that?” you asked, looking over at BB as he pulled out his lighter, looked over at you, and then promptly put it away. “They probably would.” you said, answering yourself as you spared a glance back at Poe.
Poe was already looking at you - cliche as ever - and nodded.
“They definitely would.”

Poe wished he could pretend to be surprised when he woke up the next morning and the Mu shuttle was gone. Wished he could hide behind an exclamation of 'What?' and 'I had no idea!' and then spend the day shrugging his shoulders and acting confused when the inevitable questions began. He just didn’t have a good enough sabacc face to fake surprise.
The workshop was down, the vast majority of the crates and tools gone with her in the shuttle. Rey was perched on top of one of the remaining boxes, talking to one of the new mechanics. They both gave him nervous looks when he walked over.
"What did she leave?" Poe asked, thumbs tucked into his belt.
"Some spare parts for the astromechs. A box of upgraded converter chips she showed me how to replace. A crate of spare tools for basic repairs and cleaning. A box for Chewbacca we haven’t opened yet." Rey pointed at each thing as she listed them off.
"So she said goodbye to you then?" Poe put the question out as casually as possible.
"Did she not…" Rey looked at him and he could see the concern and sadness flash over her face. "Poe I’m-"
"We said our goodbyes yesterday," he cut her off, squatting to look at the crate of converters. "Do we know what droids still need these?" Rey nodded and handed him a data pad with the list on it. "Are you comfortable taking this on and do you want help?"
Rey nodded and then shook her head. "I’ve got it. It’ll be a nice distraction from Leia hitting me with her cane every afternoon."
Poe nodded, rising to his feet. "Ok then. I’ve got a squad meeting, I’ll see you later."
He didn’t look back as he walked away, trying to keep his face impassive. No one tried to stop him as he made his way to the flight line. He passed Command, not bothering to look inside. If someone needed him they knew where to look and he wasn’t ready to invite conversation. He nodded at Kaydel as he passed and she ran over to fall into step next to him.
"What do you need KoKo?" He tried to force a smile but it didn’t feel like it was working.
"Our charts for Phaeda are a bit wonky. Could you send someone over there to remap? D’Arcy has an astromech already loaded up with the programming."
"Yeah, we can do that. I’ll send Snap out. He’s been itching to get off-base." Poe made a mental note.
"Thanks," Kaydel replied. Rather than moving away from him she kept pace.
"Was there something else?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I saw that Kina was gone and I wanted to say-"
"Stop," Poe froze in his tracks, lifting a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. "No KoKo. We’re not doing this. It’s private okay?"
"Okay," she said quickly. "I just wanted you know I was here for you if you needed-"
He patted her shoulder. "I appreciate it."
She smiled and then jogged away, back toward Command. Maker, all he wanted was to be left in peace with his own thoughts. Was his whole day going to be well-meaning friends?
Yes, yes it was.
Snap cornered him after the briefing and Poe was more than happy to send the man off-base on mission. Then it was Pava’s turn. After her Karé punched him in the shoulder and asked if he wanted to drink spatchka with them later.
The only person he saw that morning who didn’t mention Kina leaving was Chewie. The Wookie didn’t have anything to say to him at all in fact. When he sat down with his lunch at the table with him and Finn, Chewie got up and left without comment - leaving behind the remains of his meal.
"What was that about?" Finn asked with a raised eyebrow.
Poe sighed. "I think he liked her more than he likes me."
"Well that’s not difficult," Finn replied and Poe threw a nootlik pit at him.
At least his afternoon was guaranteed to be quiet. He had slated himself to do repairs on Black One - some much needed cockpit maintenance. BB-8 whistled at him from the back as he called out questions and he tried hard not to think of her with every trill from the droid.
"What’s the frequency on six-alpha-four-nine?" He called out. When BB-8 answered he adjusted the array and asked again. Tedious, mind-numbing work that took all his concentration and none of his brain.
Exactly what he needed.
He barely noticed when Finn walked up, climbing the short ladder and settling himself against the fuselage of the craft, legs stretched across the wing, his fingers laced across his stomach. He didn’t even wait for Poe’s greeting before asking, "So, you gonna tell me what happened?"
"With what?" Poe asked, teeth clenched around a wrench.
"With what?" Finn mocked, dropping his voice an octave in what was most definitely a terrible impression of Poe himself. "With your lover as Chewie would say. With Kina."
Poe didn’t pull his head up, kept himself bent into the cockpit. "It didn’t work out."
He heard Finn snort and felt the man poke a finger into the back of his thigh. "I figured that much out. But what happened?"
Poe sighed, finally leaning back out to crouch on the wing next to Finn. "She wanted me to put her first," he shrugged.
Finna raised an eyebrow. "That doesn’t seem unreasonable."
"Except that I already promised that the Resistance - this fight - would come first," he continued, pointing at the X-Wing with the wrench. "And that’s not the kind of promise you can make twice."
"Oh," Finn said quietly.
"Oh," Poe mocked before leaning back in to work on the control panel.
Another poke. "You okay?"
"I’m fine," Poe bit out.
"You don’t seem fine."
"Finn I swear if you-"
"Why are we threatening Finn?" Rey’s voice came from further away and Poe groaned. Just what he needed. More people prying.
"He’s grumpy because I’m asking reasonable questions," Finn called back.
"I’m not-" Poe jerked his head up and saw that Rey was now sitting cross legged on the wing as well. "This is too many people. It’s not good for my ship. Someone needs to get down."
Rey rolled her eyes at him even as Finn made as if to rise. "This ship’s wing has a load rating of close to a ton. I know Finn’s been hitting the new shipment of sweets - but not that hard."
"Hey," the other man said mildly and Rey grinned at him. He sat back down, glaring at Poe. "Nice try."
Poe shrugged, wiping his hands on his pants and moving to slide into the cockpit’s seat. "Was worth a shot."
"What are we talking about?" Rey asked.
"Poe’s dedication to the Resistance above all other things," Finn supplied and Poe closed his eyes and thunked his head against the back of the seat. He missed when all his friends were subordinate to him and he could just order them to go away. "Especially over beautiful people who like him more than he deserves."
"Hey," Poe turned slightly to give the man a glare. "I deserve every bit of it, thank you."
"Is that what he told you?" Rey’s voice cut into his thoughts.
"What?" Both Finn and Poe responded at once.
Rey’s eyes darted to the side. "That it was your dedication to the Resistance that was the problem?"
"Yeah," Poe grumbled, turning back to his work. "Because it was."
"I don’t think…" Rey trailed off, a considering look on her face.
"What is that?" Finn asked, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. "What do you know?"
Poe tried not to pay attention to Rey. He needed to focus on his work and whatever the reason was that Kina had left it was a moot point now because she had.
"I don’t know anything," Rey said quietly and Poe had to strain his ears to hear her, "But that doesn’t sound like what she told me."
"What did she tell you?" Finn whispered, still loud enough for Poe to hear.
"Alright, no. We’re not doing this." Poe lifted himself from the cockpit, boots thumping down on to the wing and his hands on his hips towering over them. "She left. It’s over. I for one would like to move on. So if you’re going to stay you need to find a new topic."
Rey and Finn both looked at him, and then each other. As one they slid off the edge of the X-Wing - heads close together as they walked away.
That was… not what he intended.
Poe let his back slide against the fuselage until he was sitting on the wing, legs sprawled in front of him. He didn’t want to talk - but also being alone wasn’t going to work either. Everything reminded him of her. Working with BB-8 on Black One was just a reminder of how she had chatted with the droid - their whistles flying back and forth too quickly to follow.
He sighed. "Beebs?"
"Yes Friend Poe?"
"Did she ever tell you anything about why she was leaving?" He hated asking, but BB-8 was probably the only person on base that he would ask.
"No Friend Poe," BB-8 whistled back. "She told me many times she was happy and that she liked Friend Poe."
Poe snorted a laugh, smiling to himself. "Well that’s nice to hear."
"And Friend Kina said she liked BB-8 when she said goodbye to me."
"When?" Poe rolled his head to look back at where the droid sat in the X-Wing.
"After Friend Poe went to sleep," BB-8 replied. "She asked me to take care of Friend Poe."
He closed his eyes, brow furrowing. Finally he let out a long breath, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, that sounds about right."
"Friend Poe?"
"Yeah buddy?"
"Is it my fault Friend Kina left?"
"What?" Poe jerked upright, spinning slightly to look at the droid. "Why would you think that?"
"When my Friends fought they mentioned BB-8 many times," the droid gave a sad trill. "I was worried that their fight was because of me."
Poe got up, working his way along the X-Wing until he could perch his hip next to the bay where BB-8 was housed. "Buddy, I can promise you. There is no galaxy in which Kina would have left because of you. She loves you."
BB-8 gave a low whistle but didn’t respond and Poe rested a hand on the unit. "Whatever happened between me and Kina - it wasn’t your fault." The droid trilled again but Poe got the impression he didn’t believe him.
"Sometimes two people just… can’t make things work," Poe tried again. "It’s not anyone’s fault. It’s just not right for them. Not the right time maybe."
"Will you and Friend Kina try some other time?"
Poe barked a short laugh. "You really liked her didn’t you?"
"Friend Kina talked to me like I was people," the droid whistled.
Poe stared down at the droid, watching the lights flicker. "BB-8," he asked hesitantly, "do you feel like you are people?"
"I am BB-8," the droid whistled happily.
Poe smiled, giving the droid an affectionate rub. He was letting the stress get to him. BB-8 was BB-8, that was all he needed to know. He happily went out with Poe on missions - had saved his ass more times than Poe could count. BB-8 was Poe’s buddy. His co-pilot. His partner in crime. That was all that really mattered.
Wasn’t it?

Tumblr media
It had only been five days.
You’d been apart from Poe for far longer than that; sometimes weeks, sometimes months. It was just part of being in the Resistance, and something you both knew you had to do, but it didn’t make it any easier. You must have had some pretty foul luck to have met the love of your life during a time in which the galaxy insisted on keeping you apart - but one look at the pilot, and all that faded away. He always made it home to you, no matter what. He’d made that promise to you pretty early in the relationship, and you knew it to be true. You could never doubt Poe.
The Blue Squadron was due back to base at midday; the mission had been pretty secretive, so the comms lines had been shut most the time. Even after begging Leia to let you man the singular one that connected you to Poe, she’d refused, knowing it would only make things worst. The General only ever spoke from experience, and she had plenty in waiting around for cocky pilots. Whilst Poe was arguably a little less reckless than Han, she knew that you would both act as a distraction to one another’s work. You were equally important to the Resistance, and she couldn’t have you moping about on a commslink for hours a day. The joke was on her for that one, because you still moped, even when you weren’t trying to reach your guy.
‘What time is it?’ You asked Finn.
‘11.56.’ He glanced over at you, eyebrows raised. ‘So the same time as when you asked thirty seconds ago.’
‘I’m just anxious.’ You grumbled. ‘I’ve been so lonely the last five days.’
‘You mean the last five days that you’ve spent with me?’
‘Hey, it’s nothing personal!’ You nudged him in the ribs. ‘You miss him too.’
‘I do.’ Finn nodded. ‘We really are just a pair of simps.’
‘Friends who simp together, stay together.’ You grinned. ‘And if me and Poe ever break up, you have first dibs.’
‘Same for you, if Rey and I ever break up-’
‘- that would require you getting together in the first place.’ You reminded him. Finn could only scowl in response.
‘I’m trying!’ He held his hands up in defense. ‘It’s just complicated.’
‘Nothing’s complicat - they’re here!’
You leapt off the crate you’d been sat on, sprinting across the hangar to where a fleet of X-Wings were grouping. Jess came in first, followed by Snap, and then Kare. Poe’s jet was the last to come in, which was unusual for him. He almost always lead the squad - aside from the time he’d managed to blow an engine and had to call you out to tow him back (it’s how you’d met, actually). Bar a few new dents and scratches, his jet looked to be in decent condition, with BB-8 whirring away from where he was perched in the back. You took that to be a good sign, even if he’d been the last to get in.
A crowd of mechanics reached the fleet before you, tools in hand and ready to repair whatever damage the First Order had thrown at them. You gave Jess a smile and a high five as you passed, but your line of sight was dead set on finding the curly-haired pilot. You had to elbow your way through the crowd, heartbeat picking up as you did. Man, you’d missed him. The last few weeks had been rough for you both and being constantly pulled apart only made it worst. All you wanted to do was to see him, to hug him and-
- You hit Poe with a thud, chests colliding. He immediately wrapped you up in his arms, pulling you tightly against his chest and burying his head against yours. He smelt faintly of jet fuel and smoke, which was fitting.
His lips were on yours the minute he’d let you go, hands tightly gripping your cheeks as he kissed you with all his might. Yeah, he’d missed you too.
‘Hey, baby.’ You couldn’t help but smile, eyes finally meeting - it didn’t last long though, not when you saw the state of his face. ‘Oh my god. Your eye! And your lip! And-’
‘- I missed you.’ Poe brushed it aside, pressing another exhausted kiss to your lips.
‘I missed you too.’ You softly sighed. ‘The fuck happened to your face, though?’
‘Just...First Order stuff.’ He bit his lip, brown eyes falling to the floor.
You sighed. ‘Shit, Poe.’
‘I know. He gently nodded. ‘I’m okay though. I’m here with you. That’s the important thing.’
‘You’re right.’ You agreed. ‘C’mon, I’ll take you to medical-’
He cut you off with a groan. ‘Let’s just go back to my room. Please?’
‘But your face.’ You gently ghosted a thumb across his bruised cheek, flinching when he shuddered slightly. ‘I mean...I have a first aid kit. I can always take a crack at it.’
‘That sounds a lot nicer than those nurse droids.’ He smiled.
‘But you have to promise to get checked over tomorrow, okay?’
‘I promise.’
Poe flung his arm across your shoulders, pulling you into his side as you headed out the hangar. His own room was actually in the opposite direction, but he practically lived with you in yours. It always felt so much nicer. You’d managed to make it a lot homier, with photos of the two of you and fairy lights strung up. The scent of your perfume always lingered in the air and sleeping in your bed was the closest he could get to you when you were away on missions. In return, he left his jumpers and hoodies laying around for you to have free reign of. It was a weak form of paying rent, but he hadn’t heard any arguments.
You could tell that Poe was tired from the way he walked. He usually had a swagger in his step, smiling at everyone who passed. Now, he was leaning on you for support, dark eyes staring dead ahead with exhaustion, his brain working at a thousand miles an hour to process what he’d witnessed over the last few days. You’d been on his mind the entire time.
‘Here we go.’ You gently lead him to the bed, helping him shrug off his charred flight suit. He caught your lips in a chaste kiss as you moved it off his shoulders, hands suddenly grabbing yours.
‘You know I love you, right?’
‘Of course. I love you too.’ You murmured. ‘Is something up?’
Poe pulled you down onto the bed beside him, eyes finally meeting yours. ‘I just...I got captured on the mission. Very briefly, but still. It was scary, and there was a moment when I wasn’t sure I was gonna make it back.’
‘Poe.’ Your breath caught in your throat. ‘Is that why your face is all...’
‘Like this?’ He chuckled slightly. ‘Yeah. I’m sorry.’
‘Hey, don’t be.’ You squeezed his hands. ‘It’s not your fault, and like you said earlier, the important thing is that you here now.’
‘I know, but I promised you, didn’t I? That I’d always come home?’
‘And you did.’ You pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. ‘Now c’mon, I gotta stitch you up before this scars.’
‘I reckon I’d look hot with a couple battle scars, y’know.’
‘You would, but I’d rather you not bleed out all over my sheets for the sake of vanity.’ You smiled.
Digging out your first aid kit, you grabbed a few cotton swabs and some bacta spray. You weren’t a nurse, but your medical skills weren’t terrible either. After a few too many injuries and close calls out in the field, you’d learnt the basics. Half of the scars on Poe’s body had been from your handiwork after he’d been injured -- some of them were a little wonky, but he hadn’t died yet, so you figured you’d done a decent job. The ones he’d done for you were much neater but in your defense, he was reckless as fuck and had a ton more experience in dealing with injuries.
On the bright side, Poe’s torso seemed fine and relatively uninjured. The white shirt he was wearing was only smeared with soot from the blaster fire, and his bare arms were broad and uninjured, save for one scrape on his left bicep. Okay, maybe the broad part wasn’t relevant to the context, but it was definitely relevant on the whole. He did have good arms. You only ever truly felt safe when they were wrapped around you.
‘This might sting a little bit.’ You crouched between his legs, pouring a little bit of bacta spray onto the cotton swab. You gently wiped it across his forehead, doing a double take when he let out a hiss of pain. ‘You okay, baby?’
‘Yeah, I’m good.’ Poe’s eyes met yours, and he gave you a half smile. ‘Better now that you’re here.’
It didn’t take too long to clean up the rest of his cuts and bruises; they were relatively minor given what he’d been through. The last time he’d been caught by the First Order on Jakku, he’d come home ten times worse than this. You’d spent days by his side in the medical room, mostly chiding him for how funny he looked in the bactasuit, but also to offer emotional support. The duality of love.
You finished up by wrapping a bandage around the cut on his left arm, gently tying it in place with a safety pin. It was enough to keep it clean and safe until tomorrow, when you’d hopefully be able to convince him to see an actual nurse. You knew that for now, he was tired and probably just wanted to rest. His eyes were sunken with tiredness, and his body had become more and more slumped as you’d gone about cleaning him up. Poe never slept well on missions; a mixture of anxiety and your absence always made for a bad night’s sleep.
‘That should keep you in one piece for now.’ You said, running a hand through his hair. Poe leant into your touch, pressing a kiss to your wrist. ‘You should get some sleep.’
‘Mmm.’ He murmured. ‘You’re staying, right?’
'Absolutely.’ You offered him a soft smile. ‘Gotta lose the boots though. These are clean sheets.’
‘Can you do it for me?’ He asked, flopping back against the mattress.
You rolled your eyes at his...Poe-ness, before leaning down and unzipping his shoes, tossing them in a pile across the room. Yours joined them, followed by your jacket and the crumpled flight suit. That was something else to worry about tomorrow. For now, your main focus was him.
Poe climbed under the covers, shuffling across to make room for you. He reached out to you as you joined him, naturally wrapping his arms around your shoulders and pulling you into his side. The tiredness really hit him then, and you could feel his body untense as you pressed a kiss to his jaw. His body was warm against yours, which was a welcome contrast after sleeping alone for the last few nights.
‘I love you.’ Poe murmured quietly.
‘I love you too.’ You peered up at him with a smile.
‘And I’ll always come home to you.’ He gave your shoulders a light squeeze. ‘You know that, right?’
‘I do.’
‘I’ll never break a promise to you.’
‘I know.’ You softly sighed, trying to move closer to him (as though it were even possible).
It was hard for him to fight the exhaustion now that he was laying with you -- after a few moments, his breathing became a little deeper, and his grip on you a little looser. You pressed one last kiss to his cheek, before settling back against his side and letting sleep over take you.

Chapter 1     Chapter 3 Chapter 4
You wake up to the sound of a door opening. Things slowly return to you. As you blink awake you remember Vicrul’s cruel plan. You can feel the bruise on your face from where he had slapped you. As you sit up, you find that you are in a small room. There are two floor to ceiling mirrors facing one another. They make up two opposing walls, and if you had to guess, there were people on either side, watching. Besides a long cold bed against the wall in a corner, there was a table with two chairs in the center. You laugh at the classic interrogation room setup.
“What’s funny?” Poe closed the door to the room behind him. There was no handle on the inside and you knew he is trapped in here with you until someone opened the door for him.
“I was admiring the mirrors,” you answered simply. You gingerly crossed the little room to look at your reflection. It’s not as bad as you feel. The dark bruise from Vicrul is the worst thing you can see. As you lift your fingers to touch the fresh mark, you begin to feel aware of the bodies on the other side. There are just two behind the mirror that you’re looking into. You gave your reflection a small wink and a smile, hoping you seemed confident.
“I’m-” Poe took a seat at the table but you cut him off.
“You’re Poe Dameron,” you finished for him. “How long was I asleep?” You turned your back on the large mirror and ignored the opposite one. With a wave of your hand, you used the force to pull your own seat from under the table. Poe’s eyebrows rose in surprise.
“About twenty four hours,” he sighed, “I guess we’re not dancing around that subject. Are you a jedi?” You look Poe over. It was strange that he assumed you were a jedi rather than a sith. He must be optimistic, maybe hopeful. You begin to focus your thoughts on him, hoping to weasel your way into his mind without him noticing.
“You find me in a Knights of Ren base,” you say slowly, “dressed in attire that mirrors a sith’s and you assume I’m a jedi?” There was no judgement in your voice, just mild curiosity. Poe shrugged and looked at the mirror behind you. Your reflections seem to go on forever.
“I took a look at your lightsabers,” Poe was looking at you again, “I don’t know much about the jedi or sith. I don’t care how you dress or what colors you wear, but the colors of your lightsabers are interesting. Purple and yellow? Don’t sith usually have red lightsabers?”
There was sweat beading on Poe’s brow. A trail of blood was running down his forehead. Kylo Ren’s face loomed in front of him. There was pain. So much pain.
You had found a memory within Poe’s mind that he kept locked away. It was a couple of years old but you could tell he was aboard The Finalizer. He was being interrogated by Kylo Ren.
“I'm impressed. No one has been able to get out of you what you did with the map.” Kylo Ren spoke to Poe almost kindly. Poe was worried he’d never see his BB unit again. Ren began to search Poe’s thoughts. It was agonizing. Poe thought a hole was being burned into his skull. A red hot drill was building pressure on his forehead. Something was going to burst out of him. There was a scream. Poe’s screaming.
“It's in a droid. A BB unit.” Ren had found what he was looking for and quickly turned his back on Poe. In a haze, Poe hadn’t realized that two other people had entered the interrogation room. An angry man with orange hair and a girl dressed in black and gold-
You abruptly pulled yourself out of the memory. Poe did recognize you.
“So if you were sith,” Poe was still talking, “your sabers would be red? Hey, hey, hey...” You were breathing heavily and Poe noticed. You saw your reflection in the mirror and you seemed frantic. You looked more like a trapped refugee than the great Mind Reader that the galaxy so feared.
“I called out to those two crystals,” You spoke as you tried to calm yourself, “I don’t know why they’re purple and yellow. My master was furious-”
“Let me get you some water,” Poe reached across the table and tried to put a reassuring hand on your arm. You flinched, ashamed by how out of control you were. You wanted to apologize to Poe, say something to reassure him in that moment from so many years ago. This man was kind and determined and even as you sat before him in an interrogation cell, he was worried about you. You felt the guilt begin to circle inside your gut like a worm.
Behind the glass, Connix and Finn watched in confusion. What had made this girl tense up so suddenly? Neither of them said a word as Lando Calrissian quietly entered the room. He carried three glasses of wine and set them down on a little table in the corner of the room.
“How is it going in there?” Calrissian asked as he turned to Connix and Finn.
“It’s weird,” Finn answered, “Poe’s just been talking about her lightsabers. I mean if he was really curious he could just talk to Ray.”
“Rey’s busy with Rose finding younglings.” Connix turned toward Calrissian and froze. Finn didn’t noticed either of them.
“Well, the girl suddenly freaked out in the middle of Poe’s questions. Lando, are you okay?” Fin turned towards Calrissian. The older man had stopped in his tracks and stared at the girl sitting across from Poe. His expression was something Finn couldn't recognize.
“Get Poe out of there now,” Calrissian’s voice was sharp and made both Connix and Finn turn away from the interrogation completely.
“That’s Kylo Ren’s apprentice. Poe’s in over his head.” Calrissian left the room to quickly pull Poe out of the interrogation. Connix turned to Finn who suddenly seemed pale.
“When I was on board The Finalizer,” Finn began, “there were whispers of a girl that Kylo Ren kept hidden. Some of us just thought it was a girl that he picked up from a whore house. Maybe an old friend, but some people swore that Ren was training her. They began calling her ‘The Mind Reader.’” Connix’s jaw hit the floor as Poe and Calrissian came in.
“That’s the Mind Reader?” Poe was angry now. “I knew I recognized her, she was there, that day Ren, when Ren… she was there the day Finn and I escaped.”
As you sat in the interrogation room alone, you tried to calm yourself down. Kylo knew this was your weakness; you empathize too much with your victims. You felt their pain and their grief as your own. He had reprimanded you so many times in an attempt to callous you to the feeling of guilt. Absentmindedly, you wrapped an arm around your torso, remembering the broken rib he had caused you during a particularly brutal punishment. You almost didn’t notice as Poe came back in.
“Y/f/n y/l/n, the First Order’s Mind Reader,” Poe took the seat across from you with more authority than before. “You worked with Kylo Ren.”
“You remembered,” you looked at him, bringing the memory to the forefront of his mind. Poe’s eyes glazed over for a moment as he relived the memory. Suddenly, he slammed his hands against the table. He stood and leveled a blaster at your face. You could sense the betrayal he felt.
“Here’s the deal,” Poe was breathing heavily, “you’re going to tell us what we want to know and if I even suspect you’re in my head, I’ll shoot. You’re going to help us or spend the rest of your days locked away.” You knew that you needed to help the Rebellion in whatever way possible. You wouldn’t be able to learn anything if you were locked away. Vicrul would never rescue someone useless. But there was also a feeling pulling you towards Poe. Was it the guilt? Something stronger? You weren’t sure why, but your instincts were telling you to help Poe and to help the Rebellion.
“You have a deal, Mr. Dameron,” You answered. You didn’t have time to sort through these new thoughts. You just needed to trust your gut. Poe seemed a little taken aback by your compliance. In truth, you didn’t care how much the Rebellion knew.
“Why aren’t your lightsabers red?” Poe’s question took you by surprise.
“We’re still on that?” You smiled but the blaster pointed at you prevented you from laughing. Poe gingerly took a seat, but nodded nonetheless.
“The truth is, I don’t know,” you answered truthfully, “my master-”
“Kylo Ren?” Poe asked.
“Yes, Kylo Ren,” you sighed before you continued, “he should have just given me a red kyber crystal. Those are the things inside the lightsabers that determine the color. Every saber wielder has a connection to their crystal and Kylo believed that I should summon mine. He siad that if I were truly loyal, they would be red. The first time I tried to assemble my own saber, Kylo took me to a cold planet with caves that hosted many crystals. He sent me inside and told me to pick the one that called to me. There were natural crystals that the Jedi use, but there were also synthetic crystals that Kylo had planted throughout the cave. When I came back out with my crystal, I assembled my lightsaber and disappointed my master. The purple crystal was my first.”
“What about the yellow?” Poe had almost forgotten about the blaster he was holding.
“About a year later, my master and I were looking for… well, we were searching for you and your droid. During one of these searches, we landed on one of Hoth’s moons. My master told me to wait on the ship while he and his knights searched for your tracks. But something… something called to me. I couldn’t shake the feeling. It was like there was a... I’m not sure how to describe it. It was kind of like a small string inside my head and something on the other end was pulling it. Gently tugging me toward the crystal. When I eventually found it, I returned to the ship to assemble my new saber. I tried to hide it from my master, but couldn’t. I tried to put the saber together but during the assembly, I fought with Ren. It was aggressive and we ended up cracking the crystal. My saber came out yellow and ragged but it was my saber. I couldn’t leave it. I just…” You trailed off, wondering why you felt the need to justify your saber colors to Poe.
From behind the glass Finn, Connix and Calrissian watched. The interrogation continued and you told them everything you could.
“She seems...” Calrissian began but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
“It sounds like she wants to help us,” Finn finished for him. You seemed earnest in your answers. Finn recognized that there was a familiar element of unbalance in you.
“She could be acting,” Connix still seemed skeptical but Finn believed everything you were saying.
When the interview was over, Poe came back into the room with Finn, Connix and Calrissian. The tension in his shoulders loosened and he seemed so tired now.
“Let’s get her a proper room,” Poe said as he ran a hand over his face. Connix began to protest, but Poe held up a hand to silence her. “If she’s going to betray us, I’d like to know sooner rather than later. We’ll put her under constant surveillance. Maybe we’ll learn something if we give her a sense of freedom while she’s here.”
“Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer,” Calrissian said.
“Something like that, yeah.” Poe looked back into the room you were in. You had laid your head down on your forearm against the table and from the looks of it, you were asleep.

————
Quietly you look down at your trembling hands with a numb expression, your eyes meeting Ben’s from across from you and gasping out in a shaking voice, “Ben...I-I just...oh god.”
Ben stands up to his given height, his eyes still wide in surprise, his lips parting but not knowing exactly what to say to your seemingly panicked person. After all, only Poe knew of your now broken moral. He right now was the only person your eyes searched for through the thick of the dark forest, coming up empty through each sweep and even more overwhelmed by the minute.
Ben seemed like a mere hallucination, the sound of your name coming out of his lips in a highly worried tone as you began to walk back was tuned out by your racing heart thumping in your ears. It was cold but your body was covered in hot sweat, all you could see was your trembling hands that were in a more metaphorical sense covered in blood of the man you had killed. All you wanted was one person, but he wasn’t here.
“Wh-where’s Poe? I need—” you muttered, whilst you kept walking away from Ben. “I need Poe, please.”
Everything around you began to spin in circles, what was once reality around you, felt as if it was all some fake alternate world, everything felt out of this world, it felt like your body was beginning to lose gravity and you were floating up into the void of space, only holding on to the earth by a thread. Ben was trying to help, but he was clueless on what to do, he began to hear you hyperventilate as you fell to the floor, but he was frozen, caught like a deer in headlights. He knew and you knew that what you were having a panic attack, only he didn’t know why. That or his mind just wasn’t grasping the idea with everything that was going on. Maybe he needed the help of the man you had called out to too.
“Hey, y/n, listen to me,” Ben tried to assure you, as he crouched down in front of you, pulling your hands away from your face as he noticed that you seemed to look at nothing else but that. “Listen to me.”
His voice was again, distant, felt like he was calling you from millions of miles away. You managed to shake your head and make the mistake to let your eyes fall on Ren splayed on the ground a couple feet away, the inside of your mind spinning more and your chest rising and falling down in a rhythm that wasn’t normal.
“Y/N!” Immediately at the shout of your name coming from Ben’s, your eyes snap away from Ren and you focus on Ben; who’s face by the way was inches from your eyes, his hands carefully and hesitantly cupping your cheeks. “Listen to me. Talk to me about your sister, okay? Describe her to me.”
You shook your head and swallowed thickly, feeling hot tears still streaming down your cheeks, still hearing the loud thumping of your heart and feeling as if everything was just going to come to a sudden and violent end.
“Please, just describe her to me, you talk about her all the time, tell me how she’s like.” Ben repeated, tilting your head so you continued to focus on nothing else but him. “Please.”
“Sh-she had red hair,” you panted, “she was my-my step sister. Her eyes were a mixture of the earth, brown and green,” it was slow at first, but his attempts to calm you down seemed to be working; only talking about your sister made your mind focus on what happened last. The event that left you somewhat the way you are now. “I left her to turn,” Ben freezes at your words, realizing that your breathing had calmed down, but the emotions had remained the same or even just worsened.
He just did the opposite of what he was trying to reach.
You sniffle and feel Ben wipe the tears off your cheeks, the panic that had overcome your mind, now drifting into nothing as you continued, “I left her to die, I loved her and left her to turn into one of those things because I couldn’t do it. I-I couldn’t end her life, so I left her to turn.” You sigh and feel tears once again cloud your eyesight, “it’s true what Armitage said about me isn’t it?” You blink to meet his gaze, your frown a permanent residence on your face, “I’m-I’m weak.”
Ben lips parted, his brown irises searching your face for the right answer to give you, to try and not say something dumb to ruin the moment, or make you more upset. Because he knew that right now it’s like you were made out of glass, one wrong move and you would break.
“You—” Ben’s comment was cut off the moment your eyes drifted to catch the movement behind him, a soft smile tugging at your lips signifying that it was no one dangerous.
“Poe,” instantly you ripped Ben’s hands away and quickly got up, noticing that Poe’s once clean face, now had a red marking that would soon fade into a purple bruise. Whatever had gone down with the knight, Poe came out the winner, even if he got hurt. Which was good in some ways. Regardless you were content at finally seeing him approach, the frown that once heavily decorated your features making a quick return when you saw Poe’s eyes flicker to Ren's dead body by his feet. His own gaze apologetic as he came to the realization of what happened.
Poe’s lips parted to pronounce the nickname that had quickly gotten accustomed to his tongue, but as he saw Ben stand too close to you he had to go by your name. “Y/N.”
Maybe you should have been more discreet, hidden more your enthusiasm to see him, but after what you did, he’s all you needed. So quickly you ran up to wrap him in a hug, letting out a shaky breath of air at the comfort of his arms wrapping around you. “I’m sorry,” you whispered into his chest, not having a care in the world if this singular moment was going to give away your relationship; “I-I didn’t mean to kill him. I’m sorry.”
Poe parted away only far enough to cup your cheeks, his usual gestures of affection forced to be nothing more than imaginary for the time being. His words were the only thing for comfort, even if those were guarded too. “It’s okay, you saved Ben’s life, that’s all that matters.”
Your eyebrows knot together and you shake your head, “but,”
“It’s okay, remember what I told you before...it doesn’t matter. Okay?”
You hesitate, but nod nonetheless. “Okay.”
Poe fully broke away, looking to Ben nervously and hoping he saw your interaction as nothing more but platonic. Just friends that weren’t really friends, finding comfort in each other because they had spent a day full of bonding….but Ben wasn’t stupid either. Shit.
Let’s hope he was clueless at this instant.
Poe swallowed thickly, “where’s Finn? And chewbacca? And BB8?”
Ben sighed and his eyes shifted to the ground, signifying nothing good was going to come out of his response. “We don’t know. Rey was hoping to have found them by now, but nothing. I don’t know where they are or if they’re together, all we know is that we got separated after the attack at the camp.”
Poe’s face fell, and his eyes glistened with tears once again, responding with a simple nod and nothing more in regard to that matter. “Well, Rey is in the car, we can take it, I doubt they’ll miss it. We just have to leave before they want a rematch. Or revenge for their dead master here.”
Your face falls and your eyes drift once more to Ren. A chill running through your body at the flashing memory, feeling your gaze get lost on the harsh dark crimson color that impurified the white snow. Only reacting to the real world as Poe’s whisper startled you. “Hey, come on.”
His eyes were set on you, his worry for your well being undivided. He wanted to talk, you could read that off his body language, the way he kept his eyes trained on you, a hands on your shoulder with his lips parted to add hundreds of things to comfort you. But with Ben around now, it was impossible. Maybe the truth was he needed you as much as he saw you needed him. But again impossible, all either of you could do was dance around your words.
“Are you okay?” You manage to ask, your eyes moving away from Ren to focus on Poe, your hand lifting to give his shoulder a comforting squeeze before you slowly slid it down to hold his hand for a short second, his hand squeezing yours for a moment before you pulled away from his grasp.
Poe nodded, one corner of his lips tugging into a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Yeah, I will be.” He sighed before guiding you to the car he was going to take as a parting gift from the Knights of Ren, “now come on, before they wake up.”
You sigh and nod, leaving Ren behind physically, but feeling his torturous presence now cling to your mind; “Okay.”
——
The rest of the night was enveloped in an equally quiet car ride, albeit the only noise that occupied your space was the sound of the car's tires on the asphalt that was slowly being swallowed by greenery that was overcoming every inch of man made things. Surprisingly Ben and Poe kept their talking to a minimum, no arguing at all, just simple directions, and maybe that fact had to be due to Rey, who was still passed out in the seat by yours. Her chest slowly rising up and falling down in a gentle rhythm, the only indication that she was alive and not actually dead.
Good, as much neither of you have gotten along, even thinking of losing someone else hurt your soul.
Thinking about those crew members that you were still missing was aching at your heart to the point where you were going to bawl your eyes out if it wasn’t for, Ren’s body haunting your mind. Keeping you from fully drifting off to the peacefulness that was sleeping, watching as the sun pushed the stars off the horizon to introduce a new even colder day. Any moment you closed your eyes, two scenes vividly played in your mind, both equally as traumatizing and draining to your sanity.
One, was seeing his scared body laying on the floor with the blood staining the snow.
Two, and the most prominent one was when you impaled Ren's torso with Ben's lightsaber. The sound of the blue blade bursting out buzzed in your ears, a sound so vivid it felt like if someone was now taunting and torturing you by repeatedly activating the saber right by your ear. It was deafening and horrible, but when you thought it was all over and felt like your mind could get some ease and drift to sleep, the vivid image of the same saber going through Ren’s torso startled you awake; sometimes the scene would play different, but nothing ever nice. At times your mind played games and mixed the truth, leaving you in a haze unable to tell the difference between the lies and truth of what was real or not after a while. Sometimes your hands were covered in blood, or your whole body; sometimes you would see him rise from the dead and kill you instead. Overall whatever horror trance you were under kept you awake, the only connection to your sanity and reality was Poe.
Who quietly sat in the passenger seat, his eyes often drifting over his shoulder to watch you numbly look out the window, or actually meet your exhausted gaze. A faint smile on each other’s lips when your eyes did meet. Feeling grateful that you had chosen the seat behind Ben’s driver's seat to get a good view of your equally as exhausted boyfriend. At least that went according to plan.
“Okay, I got some good pilot jokes, okay?” Poe voiced out loud, making Ben express a loud sigh, only causing Poe to get a rather prideful and happier grin, his eyes drifting up to notice your attention was only partly in this car. The feeling of his hand pulling yours to rest it on his chest grabbing your still divided attention. Sneaky bastard. He practically almost threw Rey passenger seat after she woke up, with the excuse that “it's better to sit in the back. That way I can stretch my legs to sleep better.” While he had his head on your lap, making another excuse that “the seat's headrests are too hard, and the car ride is too bumpy to rest my head on the window. I could get a concussion.” To Ben and Rey, he was being whiny, while to you, it was all excuses to just be close you without raising suspicion. You'd say he was smart, if he wasn’t talking everyone's ears off.
So much for sleeping.
Before he could reveal his joke, you tried to pull your hand away from his chest, knowing that Rey or Ben were going to look over their shoulder to shoot Poe, a rather unamused glare at his jokes, but as you tried, he reacted faster and began to wrestle for your own hand. A teasing smirk on his lips as he saw you now fully give him your attention. And if no one was around, you knew deep in your soul that he would have either pulled you down for a kiss, or he would have lifted his head to press his lips on your own, gently and playfully biting your bottom lip before he would return to his previous position on your lap—well now, that’s all you wanted. Ugh.
“Okay here it goes,” he grinned, finally deciding to let your hand go before he continued, “what’s one thing a pilot can’t say in a job interview?”
Rey sighed, “what?”
Poe chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the pure enjoyment of his own joke as he tried to say it in between laughs. “I’m down to earth!” Poe laughed even harder. At least he was finding time to enjoy himself..that or what Zorii said, “Keep his mind from overthinking.” Nonetheless you giggled at his joke, even if it was forced due to the fact that neither Rey or Ben laughed, and well you were simply not in the mood to laugh or do anything at all.
But he was trying. Not only to keep everyone’s mood up, but your own. He was great that way…..
Poe shifted himself to now rest his head and shoulders on your lap, his warm brown eyes again shifting to your face, a frown threatening to show when he saw your smile fade away; “one more,” he continued, “I saw a ghost pilot once, guess what he was flying on?” You hum softly as a response, the only answer he needed to finish his joke, “he was on an ethereal plane.”
Ben this time expressed an amused huff of air, a very, very faint smile tugging on his lips that was only visible through the rear view mirror. Your own smile barely pulled through—at least he got Ben to smile.
Rey shifted in her seat, looking over her shoulder to change the subject and direct her painful question at Poe. “How about, Zorii? Have you come across her or know where she is? We lost sight of her after the attack. She was looking for the both of you.”
Poe’s whole face dropped at the mention of the woman’s name, his whole body stiffening at the memory you both witnessed. The guilt you barely managed to shove away, crashing back into your mind. Just piling on to your already overwhelmed headspace.
“She-she.” Poe fumbled with his words, his eyes looking to the car's ceiling to avoid his tears from rolling down, while he also let out a shaky breath of air. “She—”
“We...lost her,” you explained for Poe, “she found us the day of the attack and,” you pause and sigh, “we traveled together, until we found out she had gotten bit during the attack.” Tears roll down your cheeks, but you somehow manage to finish your explanation. “Without her, we would have died. She saved us before she…” You swallow thickly, “...died.”
Rey’s mouth is left agape, a sadness replacing her curiosity. “I’m-im sorry, Poe. I know you two knew each for a long time...I’m sorry.”
Poe expresses a soft thank you that barely passes as a whisper, the tears he wanted to keep away, rolling down regardless. The deafening silence from before covering the little space with added tension. You moved your hand to wipe Poe’s tears off his cheeks, making his saddened gaze drift to you, a small wince leaving his lips at the sting felt after your finger passed over his bruise. “Sorry.” You mouthed, looking up the rearview mirror to quickly glance at Ben, before looking at Rey, double checking that they both weren’t looking, to move your hands to wipe the curls off his forehead and show him a soft smile before mouthing your concern “are you okay?”
Poe nodded and returned your question, “are you okay?”
You hesitate, but answer with a feigned smile and a short nod, your eyes drifting beyond the tree lines as Ben rolled to a stop in an old camp ground. The vivid figure of Ren bleeding out appearing where your gaze fixated, causing an inaudible hitch in your breathing once you caught sight of his blood covered finger accusingly pointed at you, his husky voice sounding off loudly in your head. Almost feeling as if he were next to you. “You killed me.”
——
“You killed me.” Ren pointed at you again, only this time with the crimson red lightsaber humming in his hand, the raging tip threatening you from where he stood outside the foggy window standing between him and you. His white hair blended with the white color the background behind him, while his red blade stood out, his blood that dripped from the deadly wound you made sizzled on the snow. A sound your mind created to torture you that much more. You tried to rub your eyes in attempts for his ghost to go away, but when your eyes were given their visibility again, there he was, his boots buried in the snow with this lightsaber still threatening you. “You killed me.”
You gulp and firmly shut your eyes, whispering your wishes for him to disappear under your breath; only to be surprised that he stood before you now, a scowl painted on his face that soon transformed into a worried look.
What the fuck?
Again you shut your eyes for a second before they flutter open, the image of Poe standing in front of you taking Ren's place. His eyebrows furrowing at your reaction, while his eyes followed your line of sight as your eyes snapped back to the window; now seeing nothing but the falling snow. “Is there something over there?” He questioned in a highly worried tone.
Your eyes drift back to him, noticing the concern in his eyes when they met with yours. Letting you shake your head and whisper. “No.”
Poe hummed, his eyes drifting for a second to what you had been focused on moments ago to see nothing. Again. “Okay, well,” he scratched the back of his head, his voice lowering in volume, Ben and I are going to scour the area just to make sure there's no infected lurking around, okay?”
You blink and look behind his shoulder to see Rey outside talking with Ben, letting you fully express your doubt for this “patrol”, “Poe, no. Please don’t leave me here with Rey.”
Poe chuckled, his hand stroking his beard. “You’ll be fine. We’re not going to be gone long.” He smirked, “just try to get along, alright?”
You shook your head, “no. Not alright.”
Poe rolled his eyes before crouching down to match your height as you sat on an old bunk bed. “Try to get some sleep. I know that you haven’t, so for me, please sleep.”
What you wouldn’t give to sleep in his arms again. Sneak off and find some dark cave to just sleep in the security of his arm again. You wouldn’t have to do anything else….well maybe just some kissing, but nothing else beside that. You just wanted to feel safe in the world of insanity that now had you by its grasp, feel warm in the cold season that had everything covered in a snow white blanket. Only that blanket was made out of small particles of cold ice. Stupid winter.
For someone born on Ilum, a literal ice planet, you hated anything that had to associate with snow or ice. It was a stupid cursed thing that did nothing but get you cold. It was beautiful to see, but it was cursed. There's no good memories associated with snow. Nothing.....well maybe Poe. But everything that happened with him, like him asking you to be his girlfriend happened before the first flake of snow hit the ground. The sex happened before too. So nothing good ever associated with this white tortures snow.
You sigh, “maybe. But that’s why you should stay too. You haven’t slept either, I don’t want you passing out in the middle of the forest. Plus you’re wounded.”
Poe looked over his shoulder, his eyes focused on the talking pair outside the window before he turned back around, his hand going on your knee and not on your thigh for precautionary reasons. “Baby, it’s just a little bruise.”
“And?”
A faint smile pulled on his lips, “I’ll be fine. I’ve also gone longer without sleeping. I’m more worried about you. Are you sure you’re fine? What you did took a toll, I know it wasn’t easy.”
You sigh and look to the ground for a brief moment before you meet his gaze to assure him. “I’ll be fine. It’s just going to take time, you know? To fully grasp what I did. But...I will be fine.”
He smiles, unconvinced but he does, his fingers aching to stroke your cheek, “you’ll tell me if anything’s wrong, right? You know you can trust me with anything, right?”
You nod, forcing a smile to really convince him. “yeah I know.” You wanted to tell him of what you’ve been seeing, but, it was just passing trauma. Nothing to worry about….nothing to worry about.
He hesitates to say what he wanted to say next, wanting to stay on the subject, but knowing that it wouldn’t go far with the people around. So instead he had to move on. “I want you to get some sleep, baby, for me, okay?”
You groan, “fine.”
Poe smiles, the exhaustion behind his eyes disappearing for a moment as he showed the little bit of joy when you answered. “We’ll be back shortly.”
You smirk, “no kiss goodbye?”
Poe scoffed, “You know if I could, I would.” He smirked, “don’t be a tease.” Poe followed by standing up, offering you one last smile before taking your hand in his, bringing it up to his lips to place a light kiss on your scar. Making you genuinely smile. Before you could say anything on the regard he discreetly placed something hard and small on your palm, securing it by forming your hand into a fist. His gaze lingering on you for a moment before leaving out the door, that panic and hold to reality that was shoved away at his presence returning as he left. Leaving you paranoid and scared again. Just before Rey could come in, you turned your back to the door...for just in case and opened your fist, seeing a silver chain (not the one with the ring on it...good.) that had dog tags hanging from it, ‘Poe Dameron’ neatly stamped on the metal, with the symbol of the resistance logo stamped under the words. You smiled. A genuine and happy smile that even showed on your eyes at the sentiment, the neatly folded piece of paper catching your attention before you could hang the chain around your neck.
When you unfolded it, there wasn’t a lot written and the words were obviously written in a hurry due to how messy it all looked. But the thought still made your heart swell. If your sister were to see you, she would instantly call you out and tease you on how big your smile was and the effects this man had on you. But alas she wasn’t. Maybe it was a good thing, since her jokes would be endless and irritating….but then again you’d rather have that then what was the reality. Damn.
You sigh and choose to read the letter instead of wallowing. The smile you had returned in an instant as your eyes read the words.
I want you to wear these, a part of me, with you. So every time I have to leave you’re reminded that I’m there with you and that I’ll be back. No matter how short my leave is. I’ll be back. Everytime. I...
The letter ‘I’ was very messily scribbled out, whatever he wanted to write, chosen to be nothing but a mistake. Whatever it was.
...also please SLEEP! I mean it! I’ll be back.Try not to fight with Rey.
Your best boyfriend ever, Poe.
And he called you a dork—your smile widened and you neatly tucked the letter in your backpack. Quickly hanging the chain around your neck and hiding the dog tags under your shirt, unable to hide the smile that showed as the warmth from Poe’s body was still on the metal. You felt like a happy child after receiving a candy or a prize. Now you felt closer with Poe. What you wouldn’t give to kiss him.
You couldn’t, shame. Maybe if you actually slept he would be back faster and you would get to avoid Rey. That’s a good idea. Let’s do that. You shrug your backpack off your shoulders and drop it on the wooden floor, not even bothering to look back at Rey as you heard the mattress of the bed she was on, swoop down. The sound of her lips parting, making you bite the inside of your cheek in hopes she wasn’t trying to do what you thought she wanted to do.
But alas it happened…
“So,” she started, forcing you to turn to face her. “Poe and you....”
If you could see your own face. You knew it would be shocked beyond belief. Your eyes would be and are widened in horror and surprise. Your heart stopped beating. All the blood on your face disappeared.
“...were there when Zorii died?” She finished with a long face.
You finally exhale and relax, proceeding to offer her a short nod. “Uhh, yeah….well not really because we had to leave before she died, but there wasn’t much time left for her, she sacrificed the remainder of her time...so..yeah.”
What you wouldn’t give to have her here.
Rey hummed, her eyes lifting from the floor to you, the action making your heart race inside your chest; “look, I just want to say that whatever hostile we had with each other, I’m sorry. I was just...jealous I guess with the relationship you had with Ben.”
Your nose scrunches and you laugh out loud. Making her eyebrows knot in confusion. “Look,” You breath with a grin, “I’ll tell you what I told him. It’s not going to happen. Ben is like a walking reminder of my brother, I could never have a relationship with that man. Plus he’s rude, so, no.”
Rey smiles shyly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Yeah you’ve got that right.”
“Did you have the chance to, uh,” you try not to laugh again, hiding your smile with your hand, “did you try making a move on him? Or?”
Rey shook her head, her smile softening. “No, no. He’s intimidating to say the least, at first I did find him attractive but, I don’t think he’s fully here. His mind always seems to be somewhere else. It’s weird.”
You hum as a response, knowing that his father mostly likely had to with his odd behavior.
“I’ve meaning to ask,” Rey paused, fidgeting with her fingers like if whatever she wanted to ask scared her. “Why did you leave the first order? I understand that General Hux is your brother. Why did you leave and not him.”
You swallow thickly, and hesitate to speak up as you thought of your answer. It wasn’t difficult to explain the reasoning. It was just hard to talk about; “he’s my step brother.” You correct her, meeting her gaze to continue, “uhh, he traveled with the group my sister and I were with after the outbreak, but he chose to return after a year. He decided that his precious order mattered more than his own family.” Tears don’t threaten to show like you thought they would, instead you were swallowed in a burning anger. “My sister and I left the order. A group of us actually. All before everything happened, because we knew that what the first order was doing was wrong. It was never us. My sister always said we were meant for greater things than to be part of a murdereous group.” A small warm smile makes it on your lips at the thought of your sister, a moment that was short lived as the memory of her passing makes your frown have a comeback.
“I’m sorry,” Rey sighs.
You quirk your eyebrow and quickly press on her comment. “What for?”
“It wasn’t easy, losing the only people you have in the whole galaxy. It’s hard and devastating. I understand.” Tears roll down her cheeks, the action and her words catching you by total surprise.
“I—” you exhale deeply and nod, “it’s shattering, but the loneliness after they’re all gone is the worst part.” And it was. You were left alone for a year after Amaras death. A year without having people watch your back or talk to, just feel safe. Not until someone came along. This guy named Enzo, he had these soft, pretty brown eyes that you could just get lost in. He had some soft brown hair and a pretty face, and his accent was amazing. He well, he could also pull off a beard. But that’s all. Well. All beside the point. Because just like everyone else he died...or at least that’s what you tell yourself. You were separated by a horde, one thing led to another and then you found Ben and his father. Or they found you. Whatever. The point is, you haven’t thought of Enzo since Ben found you. It would have been painful either way. Plus, he was part of the past. You weren’t alone anymore.
Focusing back on the person in front of you, you notice as Rey wipes her tears and offers you a kind smile, “you have us now. You know that, right?”
For however long that will be. Right?
You nod and wipe off your own tears, “right.”
“I know you’re scared that what you’re going to do is going to kill you, but I promise that General Organa will do everything in her power to make sure it doesn’t. I have faith you’ll get to see what your immunity brings to this galaxy too.”
You frown and gulp, blinking away tears to show a more feigned smile. All you wanted was for her to be right. But you couldn’t get your hopes up. “I’m-“ you excuse yourself. Changing the subject completely. “I’m going to try and get some sleep before the guys come back, okay?” Without another word, you look away and lay on the blanket you had over the bed with your back facing her. It was a little rude to leave her out in the cold like that after she was trying to be nice, but the topic she brought up isn’t easy. You couldn’t let your mind come up with the ‘what if’ scenarios. As nice as that would be. You just couldn’t….so instead let’s just get sleep. Or else your boyfriend would skin you alive for not at least sleeping for a couple minutes.
If that was even possible.
You closed your eyes and all could see was Ren. You wanted to picture Poe, imagine that he was pressed up behind you, or maybe even anything else but what came to mind. Stupid Ren. You sigh and pull out the dog tags that Poe had given you. A small smile pulling at the corner of your lips at the feeling of the metal in your hand. Knowing that he once had them around his own neck, had it against his smooth skin. Knowing that he thought of you when he chose to depart from something so meaningful as his war tags. This man truly managed to just mean everything to you in a matter of days. What was it? Maybe the way he didn’t see you like a broken toy. He didn’t treat you like a child, he was gentle, strong and brave. He cared for you and the thought of leaving you bothered him to his very core. And you knew your leave was inevitable, but he knew the risks and didn’t care. Maybe you were nothing else but a warm body to him...but if that were true, he wouldn’t bother to leave notes or small gifts. He would be uncaring and cold. But he wasn’t. He truly wasn’t.
Stars.

“Y/N.”
The afternoons bright light stings your eyes the moment you peel them open, a cold breeze rushes in and makes you pull your (Poe’s) jacket closer to your body. The exhaustion you had been trying to get rid of still there. Lingering. Pleading for you to shut your eyes again to continue with what your body ached for. Only you wouldn’t. It’s a surprise you even got to sleep. For however long that was.
“Y/N.”
You sigh and turn around at the sound of Ben calling you—when had they came back?
“Y/N.”
You groan, “yeah, yeah I heard you the first time.” You roll your eyes and flip around, keeping your eyes focused on the ground as you swung your feet over the bed, dreading even meeting Ben’s gaze. You were still mad at him. You might’ve saved his life, but he hasn't apologized for his very unkind words. He might think he’s off the hook but he wasn’t. Yet.
“Ben, look.” You sigh and as you’re tugging your boots on, the blood dripping from his body makes you stop mid sentence and for your brows to pinch together. Slowly and hesitantly following the leaking blood up to...No.No. Ren. “No. No I-I killed you. You’re supposed to be dead.”
Ren’s head tilted to the side, one of his burnt hands trying to stop his wound from bleeding while with his other he pulled his lightsaber off his side. “Right, because you killed me. Because you’re just like them. You had no mercy.”
You shake your head and stand up from the bed, slowly slipping past him and beginning to walk back. “No. I’m not. You-you were going to kill my friend.” A small whimper leaves your lips at the sound of his lightsaber igniting in his hand. The crimson color, basking the whole room in its red glow.
Ren walks towards you, the tip of his saber pointing to you, with every step he took forward you took one back, feeling the heat of the lightsaber on your own torso as it came mere inches from impacting it as your back hit the closed door. You tried to turn the knob to open the door, but your hand kept slipping, a small yelp escaping from you as Ren closed the remainder of the gap by pressing the burning blade on your body, the tip of the blade easily burning through your clothes and burning your skin in a blinding pain.
“You’re just like the people you ran away from. You’re no different from your brother. You’re just like him. Both weak. Both killers.”
“Rey?! Rey?!” Where the hell was she! “Rey!”
Ren suddenly thrusts his arm forward, the blade fully coming in contact and penturating through your skin. Making you express a loud scream from the agony. Having felt no pain like this one ever. His words only add to your pain. “Now we’ll die together.” Again he thrusts forward and you let out another scream.
“I’m sorry!”
Just when you thought everything was going to end, your eyes fly open and your upper body flies up until you’re in a sitting position with your hand where your wound was supposed to be. Feeling a blanket of sweat cover your body. It takes you a moment to fully recuperate from your nightmare, but once you do you turn your head to see that Rey was not in her previous position. The room was empty. “Rey?” You swing your legs over the bed and quickly tug your shoes on, ignoring how sticky your whole body felt from the sweat. “Rey?”
Quickly you push yourself off the bed and instantly head to the door, finally catching the sound of a woman's voice talking outside. A voice you didn’t recognize as Rey’s at all; “...we must be getting lucky, recently we’ve been able to save two lost wanderers and a little robot. Cute little thing. And now the three of you.”
You press your ear on the door and let your hand hover over the doorknob as you heard Ben’s voice. They’re back? “Yeah, lucky. Now those three you found recently, was one tall and hairy? They’re in your camp?”
“Yeah and yes!” The woman chuckles, more people chiming in and joining her, “sound interesting now?”
They found Finn? What the hell is going on?
A silence takes over, making you finally twist the knob to open the door, instantly recognizing Poe’s back blocking the door, his head along with the six newcomers turning to see you walk out.
“Another emerges!” The woman addresses with a warm grin. “I’m sorry for the intrusion. You must be so confused.”
You nod and stay by Poe, feeling his gaze on you as his hand hovers over the small of your back. He looks away after a moment, letting your eyes then meet with Rey, who’s by Ben. Who looked more or less as concerned as her as he awkwardly stood across from you and by the blond woman, her green eyes burning into you.
“We were just trying to convince your friends here, about joining us in our camp. Get you guys cleaned up and fed. A storm is coming. It’s better to be somewhere...warmer than these falling cabins.”
“Hmm, well, I do whatever my friend says, so. If he says no. Then, what can I do?”
The woman chuckles again, before shoving her hands in her winter jacket. “I like you.”
And you seem weird.
“Well the offer is on the table take it or leave it.”
Something felt off? No? Just paranoia?
From the corner of your eye, you meet Poe’s gaze, his eyebrow lifting to silently ask for your opinion. Receiving a very hesitant and simple shrug from you, both of you then looking to Ben and Rey to communicate the same. All of it concluding to Ben.
“The man’s name. The one picked up recently, what was his name?” Poe asked.
The woman pressed her lips together and let her eyes wander the white ground before locking eyes with the man next to her. “Uhh, I’m not sure. I didn’t have time to really introduce myself. Why? You looking for someone?”
Ben stepped up, “you could say that.” Ben’s eyes then drifted to meet your own, the battle of choosing the right choice obviously painted on his face. He just you like you knew that it was a risk. Because after all his own father did warn you about strangers. You just never know. But then there was the other choice. If he didn’t risk at least just going to check if Finn, Chewie and BB8 were in the camp, you weren’t the only one going to be mad at him for choosing to deny their invitation.
Ben sighs and clenches his jaw, his answer going unheard as Poe speaks up. Obviously impatient to wait for Ben to answer, and desperate to know if his best friend and his droid were actually there. “We’ll go, but we can’t stay long.”
The blond woman grins and claps her hands, “great! Now I won’t feel bad that I had to leave y’all behind when a storm is heading our way. I promise you all it’s going to be great.”
You offer her a feigned smile and swallow thickly, thinking to yourself as you feel Poe’s warmth finally come in contact with your back as he began to follow the blond woman and her group.
Was this really going to be safe?
Was it the correct choice?
Were Finn, Chewie and BB8 actually there?
Maker.
Hopefully, a yes, to all.
Hopefully.

Wars and Weddings
Pairings: Poe Dameron x Reader
Warnings: maybe two slightly suggestive jokes, but other than that it’s all fluff
Summary: Weddings and proposals. There isn’t much else to say
Notes: The idea for this fic came to me while listening to the Locura De Marzo 2019 playlist (specifically Cásate Conmigo by Silvestre Dangond and Nicky Jam). Keep in mind that everything with the clothes is highly unrealistic, but I just happen to like dressing people up a little too much. ALSO I can’t say I’m a fan of all the Rey-Finn stuff, it’s really just to take up space honestly. I apologize for the bad gif quality.

Where the Resistance found so many dresses and suits you had no idea. Maybe from a hijacked merchandise transport or really fashion conscious First Order ship. Whatever it was, you were grateful for the occasion to be wearing anything other than a flight suit or some other Resistance provided clothing. The strapless tulle dress you wore reached your ankles and was a pale periwinkle. Serious relationships rarely worked out in the Resistance, never mind weddings. Yet here you were, getting ready to go to the wedding of one of your close friends.
There really wasn’t supposed to be an actual celebration or anything, but the timing had worked out perfectly with a major win happening two days before. So the event was kind of a combined wedding and success party.
You glanced in the mirror once more before hearing a knock on the door. You opened it to reveal a very dressed up Poe. His hair was slicked back but still retained the majority of its curl which you loved oh so much. He wore a black dress shirt and pants with a matching leather jacket. As soon as he saw you he was taken aback.
“Y/n- woah you’re gorgeous.” His eyes swept over you, taking you all in. This was the first time he had ever seen you all dolled up, something which he wouldn’t mind seeing again.
“Oh please,” You brushed off the compliment but your ears still turned red with embarrassment. “How am I supposed to keep my cool around you all night with you lookin’ like that?”
“I don’t know, maybe you shouldn’t try to.” Poe grinned and wiggled his eyebrows at you suggestively, to which you just laughed and hit his chest lightly.
“Alright, lets get going. We don’t want to be too late.” Your door slid shut behind you and you set off down the hallway.
“Lead the way, captain.” You linked arms and walked through base towards where the wedding was to be held like one of those gorgeous power couples that everybody wants to be like.
The door opened and you were greeted by such a lovely sight. It was a gorgeous night on D’Quar. The air was warm but not too humid and there was a light breeze passing through base. Everybody had gotten together to set up a fabulous space. The regular generic folding chairs were decorated with various flora and arranged in two columns with a space down the center. There were fairy lights ringing the area and everybody there looked amazing.
You and Poe took your seats towards the front next to your other friends. As the bride made her way down the aisle in a makeshift wedding dress as everybody ‘oohed’ and ‘ahed’. You gripped Poe’s arm tightly all throughout the ceremony. Everything was so beautiful and heartwarming. The Resistance rarely ever saw pure happiness and joy like this, so by the end of the ceremony many people were crying.
Soon it ended and people began filling out of their seats to help clear the area and flip in into the reception area. You lugged chairs around and helped people carry in tables. You often times got a glimpse at Poe who was also helping out with the setup, he would catch your eye and send you a wink which would then cause your ears to be consumed in a blush.
“Oh you are so whipped, y/n” Rey teased from beside you. “You two have been dating for ages, where’s the ring?”
“The ring?” You were confused by her question but then you understood. “Oh no no, we’re not getting married. At least not now. We both agreed a little while ago that marriage wouldn’t be the best thing right now, at least for us. For Vurn and Jane it’s great, but they both work on base so they’re not putting their lives in danger everyday by flying into battle. Don’t get me wrong,” you added quickly, “I love Poe very much and I’d love to marry him, it’s just that the timing is a bit off.”
“No yeah, I get it.” Rey nodded with understanding but her attention was soon drawn over your shoulder. “Speak of the devil, you’ve got incoming.”
“Wha- oh!” A pair of arms circled your waist suddenly.
“Hello ladies!” Poe grinned as he rested his chin on your shoulder. He had brought Finn over as well who was making shy glances at Rey. “What are we talking about?”
“Oh nothing, don’t worry about it.” You stumbled over your words a little bit, suddenly not ready for the question.
“Come on,” he whined. “Secret secrets are no fun unless you share with everyone!”
“Oh be quiet you baby, we were talking about your fat ass” Rey chided teasingly.
“Don’t you know it!” Poe turned around and wiggled his hips a little bit before turning back laughing. He was always great at playing those sorts of things off. You could be good at it too sometimes, but with Poe it was a reflex.
“We don’t, but I bet y/n does,” Finn grinned. If your face wasn’t red before then it was scarlet now. Your friends laughed and Poe did a couple more suggestive dance moves.
“Ugh stop stop! We’re at a wedding, not a strip club!” You couldn’t keep a smile from making its way onto your face. It had been a long time since you were all able to just hang out and have fun without worrying about some looming attack, it was nice.
Once the setup for the reception was finished and someone had taken over the role of dj, people started to file out in pairs to the dance floor. You danced and ate with your friends and generally just had a really good time.
“So y/n...” Rey started as the two of you danced together on the dance floor, “you know how we; you- me, Poe, and Finn- have all been friends for a long time and how you and Poe have been dating for ages?”
“Yes? What’s on your mind Rey?”
“Well I wasn’t really thinking about it until recently, but I think I might kind of like Finn.”
“You WHAT??” You practically screamed in excitement at the news.
“Shhh shhh, not so loud.”
“Sorry sorry. You like Finn?” You asked in a much quieter voice. “That’s amazing Rey!”
“Yeah well I’m not so sure he feels the same way-”
“Are you serious?” You cut her off with a somewhat dumbfounded expression. “He’s enamored with you. Every spare second he has he’s looking at you.”
“Are you sure? He’s seems to be really close with Rose.”
“Trust me, you should shoot your shot. Oh! We should all go on a double date sometime!”
“Who are we going on a double date with?” Poe and Finn had come up behind the two of you.
Rey’s face began to redden so you decided to cover for her, “Oh I don’t know, I was just talking with Rey about how that might be fun thing to do sometime with another couple.”
“I see, yeah I’d be down.” He grinned and then slid a hand around your waist. “Rey, do you mind if I steal my girlfriend away for a minute?”
“Not at all.” Just before you let Poe lead you away, you gave Rey a little nudge towards Finn and an encouraging smile. You walked with Poe to the edge of the area and through a little garden archway thing that gave way to a much smaller space. It had no lights of its own so it was only illuminated by the moon and by the lights of the main reception space.
“Poe this is gorgeous.”
“Dance with me?” He put his hands on your waist as you rested yours on his shoulders and swayed back and forth to the dulled music and laughter that floated over from the party. “I have to tell you something.” He said after a moment of comfortable silence.
“Oh?” You perked up in curiosity.
“But you can’t tell Rey, ok?”
“What is it?” You were slightly suspicious now. He never asked you to keep things from Rey, you told each other everything and he knew it.
“Finn likes Rey. A lot.”
“AHA I knew it!”
“Wha- you did?”
“Of course you idiot! It was so obvious! But now I have something to tell you.” Poe leaned closely in curiosity. “Rey likes Finn.”
“She does? Thank the stars! Now we won’t have to watch them struggle to flirt with each other anymore. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve had to listen to Finn go on and on about her!” You both laughed as you drifted around in circles together in the little area. After your laughter died down, neither of you spoke and instead you rested together in a comfortable silence just listening to the far away sounds of the ongoing party. You rested your head on his chest and could feel his steady heartbeat through his shirt.
“Hey y/n?” He spoke after a moment.
“Hmm?” You hummed.
“Will you marry me?” His voice was barely a whisper but you heard it well enough to cause the world to stop spinning.
“I know we said that we would wait until after the war and everything, but if Vurn and Jane can do it then why can’t we? It wouldn’t even need to be a big thing. We could have Leia officiate and-”
“Yes.” You cut him off.
“But- wait really?” He was caught off guard by your response.
“Poe Dameron, nothing would make me happier than marrying you.”
“Oh good, because I really didn’t want to break up just because you might not have been ready.” He breathed a sigh of relief and then smiled. He reached around to the back of his neck and unclasped the chain that his mother’s ring hung from and clasped it around your neck. “I love you, y/n. More than you’ll ever know.”
You looked down at the ring now resting against your sternum. “I love you, Poe Dameron to each and every star in the galaxy and back.”
The moment was electric. But not the dangerous kind that splits trees in half, or the lustful kind that is present for every one night stand. It was the kind of electric magnetism that draws two people in close to one another and connects them together. Poe pulled you in at the waist and kissed you softly with his entire mind, body, and soul.
“So, when do you want to get married?”
“Oh I don’t know, how about next week? It doesn’t even need to be big or anything. Just you, me, Leia, and our friends.”
“That sounds lovely.”
